Newsmax: The Steve Salzberg Show: Bud Grant on His NFL Career
. Source:The Daily Press I don’t want to sound cold here, but if you look at the Vikings four Super Bowl appearances, they were the second best team in every game, so why they would be on a missing rings list from. NFL Films is surprising to me and in really at least two of those games they were clearly the second best team in the Super Bowl. Because only Super Bowl 8 against the Miami Dolphins…

Apparently, there's been all sorts of drama with Toblerone.

All 26 Republicans on the powerful House Oversight Committee have refused to sign a simple, two-sentence statement denouncing white supremacy. — Goddammitall, I hate these fucking people. Hate isn't strong enough.

Meanwhile on Twitter... and completely related to the link above...
Bud Grant just died at 95 years old. Being a sports fan in general, I was aware of what Grant accomplished as Head Coach of the Minnesota Vikings — primarily coaching them to 4 Super Bowl losses. I was just looking at his Wiki page, and no surprise that he also played in the NFL. Not only that, but he was drafted 14th in 1950. He only played a couple years before playing a few more in the CFL. Scrolled down a bit... This dude was also drafted in the NBA in 1950 and played a few years for the Minneapolis Lakers! There have been many multi-sport athletes, seemingly most common — or at least most publicized — is the MLB-NFL connection. To my knowledge, I do not know of another NBA-NFL athlete. Not a deep dive whatsoever, but Nate Robinson played football and basketball at UW before a long career in the NBA. The only other close one I saw was Charlie Ward, who won the Heisman at FSU, which seemingly would've been a lock to play NFL, but went to the NBA and played some years there.

ok, i cant resist the urge to make a post about it after all, especially since it's related to a post i made prior
one of my favorite moments in trimax is By Far this part in chapter 35
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: Two pages from Trigun. The first starts with Wolfwood thinking, "Now that I think 'bout it, it may be one of the major differences between our species." That deep rooted dear I felt on the ship…" He thinks of Vash crying blood and, swearing, wonders, "Is he the one who can save humankind? That monster?" Wolfwood is briefly shown in resolution before someone calls, "Hey, Wolfwood!" and he looks up with surprise.
Vash sits with a smile at the edge of a rooftop, backed by the Fifth Moon and its prominent crater. Vash asks with a smile, "Just coming back now? You're a bit of a night owl, huh?" Wolfwood looks taken aback and wary. End ID]
Right Here. Vash is just sitting there, smiling like normal, but he's got the backdrop of the damage he caused on the moon set Perfectly behind him. it's a glaring reminder to Wolfwood of who exactly he's dealing with here, and that TERRIFIES him.
& the fact that Wolfwood still remembers that moment of crying blood as a moment of true fear. because for all the cheer Vash shows in the average moment, Wolfwood just recently saw him nearly lose control Again (at the Dragon's Nest). the second time he witnessed it, & the third time he would know about.
Vash is a walking atomic bomb with multiple charges. even with how cheerful & kind he is, he's shown Multiple Times that he does not have full control. he is decidedly something different, something Hazardous to humans, and Wolfwood knows this very very painfully.
for all that Wolfwood loves Vash, he is also terrified of him. and at this point in the story, that terror is potent enough to nearly eclipse his affection for Vash.
leading to some of the next most iconic pages:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: The next page starts with Wolfwood standing behind the sitting Vash, his expression hard and the moon bright behind him. Vash seems sad and has one eye open. A close-up focuses on Wolfwood looking down.
Wolfwood thinks, "So easy to pull the trigger. So easy to remove half the problem." Another close-up with bright lighting obscures his face but for one eye. Then Vash turns around curiously and asks, "What's up?" Wolfwood sits behind him and says "Nothin'. Come on. Let's go." Vash seems surprised as Wolfwood scolds, "Don't get yerself tangled up in every little skirmish ya see. It'll be pointless if ya get yerself killed before ya meet him." End ID]
the manga frames it like Vash doesn't know Wolfwood was pointing the gun at him, but I think he did know. he's freakishly perceptive over and over again throughout the story. he HAS to be in order to survive like he has. he'd hear the movement of the gun & sense Wolfwood behind him...
he'd know. i really think he knew.
but he doesn't do anything about it. there is zero fear in his face. he turns to look at Wolfwood curiously, a bit confused, but not afraid. he never once thought that Wolfwood would shoot him. there's full faith and trust there in that moment.
Wolfwood pretends that nothing happened, & Vash lets him. they both move on, not talking about it, because they never talk about Anything of substance like this (not until much, Much later).
overall, it's just such a great example of their relationship's development. Wolfwood's fear & Vash's trust that he won't act on it... it's just. Man.
(EDIT: people have made some good points about how Vash's expression when Wolfwood points the gun at him shows that he probably did know and YEAH that's a good point! & probably why I was so certain he knew lol, I just hadn't realized it myself)

okay like I've seen a few of those "Kevin McAllister vs. [other character]; how much prep time does Kevin get?"
but there's one character who may or may not win the whole competition, but absolutely dominates in the prep time department, and that's Nancy McFucking Thompson
in her phone call to her dad, she instructs him to come and arrest Freddy once she pulls him out of her dream in "exactly twenty minutes." then there's the montage of her setting up the traps, and then she goes to bed and sets her alarm for ten minutes.
Kevin needed at least a few hours to turn his house into a death trap
Nancy Home Aloned her entire house in ten minutes
she is CLEARING Kevin at his own game

I love Alan Grant because if there isn't a dinosaur or Ellie within his view he looks like he is actively disassociating or about 2 seconds away from doing so.

Criminal Minds: Mosley Lane Fun Facts
I'm currently doing a rewatch of Criminal Minds and I just rewatched the season 5 episode "Mosley Lane" and I realised that I have some fun facts about the episode that I want to share, mainly about the guest stars.
This is Matthew Gray Gubler's Criminal Minds directorial debut, and he goes on to direct 11 more episodes. Previous to directing this episode, Gubler had directed a music video for the Killers ("Don't Shoot Me Santa"), two short films, Matthew Grey Gubler: The Unauthorised Documentary (behind the scenes of Criminal Minds), and Matthew Gray Gubler's Life Aquatic Intern Journal (behind the scenes of The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou)
As well as being Gubler's directorial debut, it also features two guest stars who he has worked with both before and after this episode: the actors of the UnSubs, Bud Cort and Beth Grant
Gubler had worked with Bud Cort on The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou (2004), where Bud Cort portrayed Bill Ubell, the bond company stooge. Gubler portrayed Steve Zissou's loyal intern Nico (AKA Intern #1), as well as working as Wes Anderson's own intern
Gubler would go on to work with Beth Grant on the film Band of Robbers (2015), with Gubler as Joe Harper and Grant as Widow Douglas, and the TV show Dollface (2019-22), with Gubler as Wes and Grant as Cat Lady
Ann Cusack guest stars as Sarah Hillridge, the mother of Charlie the first child to be abducted and the one to bring all the families together. She is a member of the Cusack acting family, with her siblings including John Cusack (Say Anything, Grosse Pointe Blank, Con Air) and Joan Cusack (Working Girl, Toy Story 4, Broadcast News)
Barbara Lynch, mother of Aimee the most recent abduction victim, is portrayed by Brooke Smith whose breakout role was as Catherine Martin in The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Charlie Hillridge is portrayed by a young Evan Peters and while he had guest starred in several TV shows before this, this episode was released the same year as Kick-Ass (2010), his first major movie. Also, he would make his debut in his most well-known project, American Horror Story, the following year
Toby Huss guest stars here as the father of Aimee, the most recent abduction victim and the episode's ending bookend quote is from an Emily Dickinson poem - "Hope is the thing with feathers." Huss would later go on to star in Apple TV+'s TV show Dickinson about the life of a young adult Emily Dickinson as Emily's father Edward
