TSR CC Recommendations: TS2 Lot Builders

Nobody asked for this but I have a little time on my hands and I said I might do it, so here is a list of some TSR lot builders who I recommend checking out. A few notes under the cut before we get started (all details under the cut, as well, in case you aren't interested in my preamble):

This is not meant to be paid promotion for TSR. I believe TSR asking users to pay for their CC is ridiculous, especially for a 19 year old game they haven't supported in 7 years. But I spent many years uploading there during the peak-TS2 / pre-TS3 era and know there is great CC in their archives that newer players may not know about. And unlike TheSims2.com, which has sadly shuffled off this mortal coil, TSR's content is still available to freely download (assuming you can stomach the pop-ups and wait times)

This post will only be about lot builders because that was what I was primarily uploading and downloading in this era. I was friendly with some of the creators I am about to list, but none of them are still active members of the TS2 community.

The preview pics might be a little rough and the architecture styles will likely feel very dated compared to the most popular styles these days, which are more colorful, cluttered, and use 3t2 and 4t2 conversions. Re: the previews: too many of us were using free trials of PaintShopPro back then, and TSR limited us to 2 previews, so we did our best. Re: the styles: unlike pre-2010's CAS CC, which was full of hand painted and "realistic" textures (LOL), these are the same objects you can find in the game today, just being used in different ways! Sometimes for the first time! And, yes, while some of these creators used CC, it was mostly Homecrafter walls and floors, as you'll see below.

This was also the hey-day of CFE lot building, which has certainly fallen out of favor to more traditional builds (in part because graphics cards have improved and these types of builds don't look as good in 2024, and also because the great CFE experimenters, builders, and tutorial writers are no longer part of the community and their original discoveries are gone as well - I am happy to go down a massive rabbit hole on this piece of TS2 history if anyone else cares, but trust me, you don't have to care).

Alright that is enough caveating, here are some recs! (Links are in the creator's names and they take you to their Lots, though many of them have other creations, too).

Lord Tiko Speaking of great CFE builders! Lord Tiko built spaceships, boats, pagodas, domes, windmills and bridges, oh so many bridges before retiring mid-TS2 because of health issues. He was one of the first builders to take Daihtnaoz7's single and double bridge tutorials and apply them to really big lots. I'm still not sure how he built the Venice Rialto Bridge, or his other European water lots. Overall, a massive inspiration to me when I was prioritizing CFE builds.

Hatshepsut My favorite "traditional" home builder, and someone I considered a friend. She specialized in English and American builds, and I had many of Hat's houses in my old saves and was impressed by her range and decorating style which was (for the time) more varied than many of her peers. Knew how to take great preview pics of her houses, too.

Tigerblue Another builder I corresponded with, Tigerblue was probably the least prolific uploader on this list for sheer number of uploads, but she also crossed a range of styles. Her builds leaned way into specific styles (see the previews, these were all part of consistent sets of 3,4, or even 10 lots), but this was also what happened when a new EP dropped and everyone raced to uploaded builds using as many of the new objects and styles as possible. Tigerblue just happened to be better at it than most of us.

Cyclonesue Do current TS2 players know Cyclonesue? Because it's hard to think of someone who had a bigger impact on building and decorating of the era, first with her English and Tudor builds and later with her extremely distinct grunge creations. Seriously, check out her Urban Renewal series and the corresponding objects. Iconic stuff that surely now feels frozen in time. I probably only played 20% of her lots that I downloaded, but they still make for great hood decor. Like Tiko, someone who happily experimented with CFE.

Illiana The creator who inspired me to make this list is, ironically, the one on it who I know the least about (she is a Featured Artist but not in the Hall of Fame, whatever that means). I just started playing her Tri-Annyas fraternity house and have a few other lots floating around my game. She built in a range of styles, from classical to modern to Twikki Island to grunge. Revisiting some of them in-game, the TSR previews do not do them justice.

*EXHALES* If you made it to this point, kudos to you. I'm sure there are creators I've forgotten, and houses I haven't linked to, but this is a good starting point for digging into some of the eclectic builds the TSR(chives) have to offer (I just coined that, is it clever? It is not). Maybe I'll do a Part 2 if people like this.

Lorenzo Berkshire, F1 Driver is rumored to have cheated on long-time girlfriend of 4 years, Y/N L/N. It was said that he cheated the night of the Japanese Grand Prix on October 9th. It was the same sunday that his fellow driver of McLaren would go on to win the Japanese Grand Prix, which has been the assumption that made Berkshire blow off the steam by cheating.

An anonymous tip from a news outlet sent this picture in which is Berkshire and mystery model making out on October 9.

Sources from Deuxmoi saw that the infidelity was not a one off on one night, but it was a continuous thing up until the Austin Grand Prix Weekend (October 21 - October 2023). The other party has not been named yet, but it is said that she is a lower scale model compared to Y/N L/N.

Lorenzo Berkshire and Y/N L/N have said been together since 2018. They were schoolmates prior to dating, and they started during their second to last year at their academy. It was also rumored that the two were supposedly going to get engaged during the winter break, but now it has been filled with these rumors.

Atsushi and Akutagawa walk down the sidewalk together, not trying to kill each other for once. Instead just walking to a mission like normal partners.

“What did Dazai tell you about this mission?” Akutagawa asks, sounding tense.

“Not a whole lot. He said that it was really important that we catch the ability user. Said that they have a hallucination type ability, but he didn’t give me anything else. Why?”

“The only thing he said to me was that he wasn’t asking me to kill an ally of the mafia. As vague as he normally is, it’s not usually this bad. Something feels wrong, but he hung up before I could ask any questions.”

“If it felt wrong, why did you even come?”

“That is a stupid question, Jinko. You know why I’m here.”

“Yeah, I guess I do. Anyway, what’s our game plan? If they have an illusion ability, then anything can be fake as soon as we get into range. I don’t know how large that is, but how do we go about that?”

“Easy, I cut the air right before actually hitting the target. Rashomon cuts abilities, so that close, it should disappear. If not, I can just go for a non-lethal cut. A small one just to make sure that whatever it is is real.”

“Like a paper cut? Do you have the precision for that?”

“Yes, of course I do, you fool.”

“Stop being so persnickety. I was just making sure. I don’t want you to accidentally take off any of my limbs again.”

“Oh, believe me, if I do that, it’s on purpose.”

“You are so mean for literally no reason.”

Akutagawa smirks, showing off his teeth.

“Yeah, no reason at all.”

Atsushi makes a face.

“Please never smile like that again.”

“Can you please shut up?”

“Aw, you asked so politely.”

Akutagawa glares at him as they come up on the district that Dazai said their perp would be hiding in. Atsushi’s phone rings, causing him to pause.

“Do you want me to stop?” Akutagawa asks.

He glances at his phone.

“Nah, you can keep going. It’s Dazai, so I shouldn’t be long. Text me if you find him, but don’t engage by yourself.”

Akutagawa nods, tucking his hands in his pockets as he continues on.

Atsushi answers his phone with a cheerful, “Hey, Dazai, what’s up?”

“Are you with Akutagawa, or did you send him on without you?”

“I sent him forward. Do you need me to get him?”

“No, I wanted him gone. I needed to talk to you alone.”

“What did you want to talk about?”

“The perp. I wanted to tell you a little bit more.”

“Why wouldn’t Akutagawa be here for that?”

A weird suspicious feeling starts to take root the longer the conversation goes on. He looks around to see if Akutagawa is still in view, but he’s not.

“I just think that Akutagawa wouldn’t be able to be impartial.”

“Impartial?”

“Yes, I know that he hasn’t killed anyone because of your deal. However, I don’t trust his temper to hold forever.”

“What did this guy do? Can you get the point already? I have to get going.”

“Right, I can do that. He attacked an orphanage in a specific town. Got them to kill each other. That happens to be where Akutagawa grew up before I took him in. That’s why I don’t trust him. He can be very rash.”

“You think he’d really care about that? Anyone he knew wouldn’t be there anymore. He doesn’t seem like the sentimental value type.”

“I know, but he can be. I’ve known him a long time. Trust me on this. I’m only letting you know in case he figures out. Just to make sure that you’re ready in case he attacks you too.”

“Are you stalling?”

“No, but you should be prepared.”

Atsushi hangs up before Dazai can convince him to stay on the phone. He runs in the direction that Akutagawa walked in.

“Akutagawa!” he yells, even though he knows that there could be dangerous people lurking around.

Then he sees them, a group of police men outside of a nearby building. He runs over, trying to see what’s happening.

“Who are you?” one of them demands.

“I work with the Armed Detective Agency. What’s happening over here?”

“We just arrested one of the members of the Port Mafia. He was here to kill someone. We were too late to save them, but we were able to apprehend him with few injuries. Were you sent down on the same mission?”

“No, I was down here looking for a different perp . They weren’t part of the mafia.”

“Do you need help?”

“No, I don’t think he’ll have stuck around after this. I’ll just call my superior.”

The officer nods, and Atsushi rushes off to the side to call Dazai.

“What is wrong with you?!” he demands in a hushed whisper.

“I have a reason.”

“What do you mean? You led him to get arrested! Did he even actually kill the guy?”

“I can’t tell you anything, Atsushi.”

“Don’t give me that bullshit. This is not fair.”

“Life isn’t fair, and this is how things had to happen. I had to handle it this way. You’ll understand someday.”

“How long are you going to leave him there?”

“Oh, I’m not getting him out at all. I’ll leave that to someone else. The reason why this had to happen in the first place.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, but I’m going to do something about this if I have the power.”

“You don’t. Don’t start making trouble where you don’t have any. Leave him alone, and stay out of this.”

“No. I’m not doing that. He’s my partner. That’s your doing too.”

Atsushi hangs up, but most of the police have already left. So, he heads to the nearest police station. He shows them his ID and asks if they had processed any criminals in the last half hour. The man at the front desk looks at his ID closely before proudly telling him that they caught one of the Port Mafia’s top enforcers. They even had fingerprint and DNA evidence pinning him to the murder.

“I want to talk to him.”

“He’s not talking to anyone. We already tried.”

“I don’t care. He’ll talk to me.”

“If you say so. He’s still in the interrogation room anyway.”

He leads Atsushi to the interrogation room where Akutagawa is sitting. Akutagawa has his arms folded, leaning back in his chair with a bored look.

“Akutagawa.”

He frowns deeper as he turns to look at Atsushi.

“What do you want, Jinko?”

“I’m not sure yet. What happened?”

“I showed up at the warehouse that the perp was allegedly last seen at, and there was a body instead. Then the police arrived, and said that I murdered him. I assume that Dazai set me up. They said that they had fingerprints and DNA though I hadn’t touched anything yet. Also, the man was torn up, which I certainly could have done. Not that I leave fingerprints, cause this isn’t amateur hour.”

“Yeah, I talked to him. Why didn’t you just leave?”

“Cause the police were already there, and they were there in droves. I couldn’t just leave without killing at least half a dozen people.”

Atsushi drops back against his chair, his brain fuzzing out for a moment.

“He used me to get you arrested.”

Akutagawa laughs mirthlessly.

“First time? He’ll use you till there’s nothing left of you, or until you die. Both in my case.”

Atsushi looks up to see Akutagawa’s eyes cast downward. They’re dark, his jaw set, and his body tense.

“I’ll figure this out.”

“No you won’t. Not if he doesn’t want you to.”

“There has to be something I can do.”

Akutagawa doesn’t respond, doesn’t even look at him. Atsushi stands up, rushing back out of the room. He can’t take Akutagawa’s silence anymore, can’t take his lack of anger, and his acceptance of the situation. He barely gets outside before he’s throwing up in the grass. Despite everything, there isn’t a single thing he can do in the long run.

Karen Wheeler edition.

1. Karen is actually a great mother and her storyline saddens me every single time.

2. She always knows when something is up, even if she can't pinpoint what is it.

3. We tend to think she's absent because Joyce is aware of everything concerning the upside-down and takes action based on it. Karen knows nothing, it's unfair to think of her as an absent mother for not being able to help in the same fashion Joyce does.

4. Karen is used to the quiet town of Hawkins she's always known where nothing ever happens. She's not a bad mom for letting her kids roam around. We as viewers know what's happening everywhere. Karen doesn't. She still thinks her kids aren't in danger because, for the longest time, Hawkins was a safe place and she's used to that concept of Hawkins.

5. She's always willing to lend a hand and we seem to forget that a lot.

6. Karen isn't as affectionate as Joyce but she are cares just as much.

Joyce always talks to her kids with petnames and she's always reassuring and sweet. Karen, on the other hand, calls her kids by their names and she's always cautious, because although she's always worried, she respects their space.

7. Remember the conversation Nancy has with Jonathan on S1 when they talk about their parents? Nancy mentions that her parents never loved each other and they just married so they could build a traditional home in the suburbs, a fact she seems to be saddened and bitter about, and fact that comes back to her at the way Jonathan snaps at her when she tries to defend Steve.

Then, in S3, when Nancy and Jonathan get fired, she talks to Karen heart to heart. Karen begins to speak from her wisdom, talking about how the world treats you poorly when you check certain characteristics, how words hurt and how determination dies in people and they give up, but there's a moment when, as she's opening up to Nancy, she almost starts talking about herself from personal experience, signaling that maybe she accepted from a whirl ago that her life was a failure because she never got to follow her dreams and had to settle for a marriage she isn't happy with, and she's terrified of the same thing happening to her girl.

8. Taking some ideas from the previous point, I got this from tiktok user's video @natalialovebot. Karen doesn't like the idea of Nancy dating Steve but she's totally okay with Jonathan.

In case you can't open the link or don't really want to go to tiktok to know what it's about, I'll leave a small description.

It basically is a compilation of Mike and Karen Wheeler rejecting Steve in one way or another, the disapproval in Karen's face when Steve comes the conversation and the relief and softness when Jonathan comes into the equation, that very specific scene during S2 when Nancy tries to sneak Jonathan into her bedroom to contact Barb's mom, and Karen notices. They're both nervous and the excuse they use to go upstairs is that they have a test they have to study for, and although Karen *knows* it's not the real reason, she lets it slide because she trusts Jonathan enough to trust Nancy too.

Here's what I think:

Steve represented heavy last name implications and importance, he was popular in high-school and highly desired by almost every girl, we know his family is rich, and Karen was scared of Nancy ending up in the same position she was in just because she could end up with a rich man that she wasn't really in love with. But Jonathan was a totally different story, because Karen is observant, as much as she can be, and she sees the type of man he is, how caring, sweet and willing to do anything for Nancy he is. 9. Karen Wheeler is fierce. Remember S1 finale when Brenner talks to her and tries to convince her to trust him? She's SEETHING and for the perfectly valid reason she describes. How else is one supposed to react when being told your child is in danger and you're supposed to trust a stranger that was potentially the one to put them in danger? She CARES.

10. HOW DOES THIS WOMAN KNOW HOW TO FORCE A LOCK OPEN with BOBBY PINS??

11. Karen knows deep down she's been neglected as a woman and as a wife, marrying a man she only ever was with for procreation. She's younger than Ted, so I'm sure there were a lot of things she had yet to experience. I don't celebrate her willingness to cheat on Ted to go chase a teenager, no matter who made the first move and proposition, but I understand where it comes from. Even then, she chose her family over fun because that woman has principles and despite her unhappiness, she chose not to betray their trust.

12. She was smart and gentle enough to go talk to Billy to apologize and make things clear between them, to let him know her priorities, even if the Billy she was talking to was no longer the Billy she knew.

13. That woman can't even have a moment for herself because an unseasoned, absent husband.

14. She only wants the best for her kids. It's common knowledge that sometimes parents (you know, the ones who actually care) always want to provide what they didn't have as kids or guide them through through life with wisdom from their own experiences, and Karen wants her kids to grow in healthy environments and to not repeat her patterns.

15. She's fair and smart with consequences and reasoning.

In S1, after Will disappeared, she doesn't allow any of her kids to go out simply out of precaution. Her rules were clear and she trusted them enough to follow through, even if none of them did.

In S2 she made Mike donate toys to make up for the money he borrowed from Nancy. She could have, I don't know, left him with no TV or made him go to bed without having dinner, punishments completely unrelated that weren't going to let him understand the consequences of his actions, but she came up with a way to sacrifice his own personal stuff in compensation for taking something that didn't belong to him.

16. Karen was MORTIFIED after Will disappeared, she had every right to act protective over her children if there was a potential danger out there.

17. She was always welcoming with the rest of the kids in her home, and you can see she was genuine with it. I see it as her wanting her house to be a safe cocoon for her son's friends if they ever had no other place to go.

18. My woman went to the Byers' to leave food for Joyce in a moment of distress knowing it was probably the best thing she could do, to lend a helping hand and reassure Joyce she could trust her.

Karen Wheeler is such an underrated and misunderstood character that seeing how overly simplified the fandom sees her character makes my blood boil.
