sypnosis. [ xiao x adeptus!reader. 1.6k words. angst. ]  — It's a punishment, it has to be. He had definitely done something wrong to piss off his god.

Rex Lapis was not indifferent.

He knew of his only remaining Yaksha’s pain, the karmic debt he hides from him, or tries to, really. Nothing can escape Rex Lapis’ watch, no, not even as he resigns and leaves Liyue in the capable hands of the Qixing and the Millelith.

And so, one afternoon, Bubu Pharmacy receives a summons from the Geo Archon himself, asking them to come to the Golden House for a formal meeting.

Changsheng tells Baizhu to close up for the day and sends for Yanfei to pick Qiqi up.

The two make the trek toward the abandoned building, left to stand in memory instead after the supposed passing of Rex Lapis.

Baizhu steps over the offerings left at the door of the now altar, the flowers, both wilted and fresh, the letters, candles, all of it, for the beloved Geo Archon.

He tries to quell his nerves at being called by a high figure of authority.

Rex Lapis is… not what he expected.

Zhongli shows up instead.

“Ah, Changsheng, Baizhu,” he greets, “come,”

The tall man walks to the middle of the floor where an insanely large gold ceramic bowl, almost like a bathtub, sits. Thousands of red incense sticks were lit around it, the aroma wafting through the air, it smelled heavily of qingxin flowers and ginseng, Baizhu notes.

Changsheng gasps as they near the middle.

“Rex Lapis-shén! Is that what I think it is?”

Zhongli nods.

“Astute as ever, Changsheng-xiaoren,” he says as he holds his hand over the bowl which now seems to be filling up with… white wine…?

“It is wine,” the man nods, seeming to read his mind, “Would you allow me to borrow Changsheng for a moment, Baizhu-yīshēng?”

He nods, “A-ah, yes,” he holds out his hand to Zhon- Rex Lapis. Changsheng slithers to his hand with no trouble.

The two have a conversation, Baizhu does not hear nor does he understand the tongue in which they speak in. Ancient Adeptus dialect, he supposes. He stays standing at the end of the incense table, watching, waiting.

Finally, Rex Lapis moves to rest Changsheng at the end of his arm and his familiar starts to chant.

The entire environment shifts, the Golden Palace’s lights dim for just a second and brighten even more, the wind picks up, even if there was no draft to begin with, and he finds it weird that the incense remains lit through it all.

Changsheng continues her chant and then he hears another voice join in, it’s deep, almost otherworldly, and Baizhu wonders if they’re summoning a God- no, it’s... Rex Lapis who speaks, he observes.

The Wangsheng Funeral Parlor’s Consultant starts to glow, his sleeve failing to conceal the light that his arms emit, and even the ends of his hair start to lighten, too.

So this is the power of an Archon, Baizhu thinks, and for a moment, he is afraid.

The winds start to swirl, outlined by the smoke of the incense as it forms something somewhat similar to the eye of a storm in the middle of the ceiling, objects start to rattle, and Baizhu fears, he fears for his life and he fears for Changsheng’s.

Then it stops.

It becomes dark, all that was floating dropped, all that were shaking, stilled, and the incense smoke rose up again.

Then, Rex Lapis speaks.

“Baizhu-yīshēng, cover your eyes,”

He does so, swiftly, no questions and he is thankful that he does.

Because even if he has shut his eyes, he could feel the brightness of the light that imploded and flooded the room, his eyelids not being enough to completely shield his irises, he raises his arm to cover his face.

From Liyue Harbor, everyone is in a state of panic, a bright golden beacon of light has emerged from the Golden House, and already, the Tianquan knows what is happening and has sent for the Millelith to protect the Golden House.

Baizhu can feel the winds whip at his face from behind his arms and the light become even brighter.

Then it stops.

Changsheng trails off of her chanting and the baritoned voice disappears as well. The archon turns to him as the lights of the Golden House return to it’s warm, usual lighting.

“Thank you for your assistance, Changsheng-xiaoren, you as well, Baizhu-yīshēng,” he smiles tiredly, and turns back to the bowl that-

“Is that a human?” he asks, horrified and amazed.

“An adeptus,” Zhongli corrects.

The man lifts up his… adeptus creation in his arms and carries her out of the bowl. The girl looks to be as old as a young woman, seemingly asleep, but you could feel her energy somehow.

Zhongli coats her in a silk blanket and again thanks Baizhu and Changsheng who tells him should he ever need her help again, he is most welcome to do so.

Baizhu is just in shock that he had witnessed how adepti were made.

“Oh, and Baizhu-yīshēng?” the archon calls out to him, his voice echoing throughout the hallway of the chamber, “Best to get out of here as soon as possible, the Qixing will be here shortly,”

The doctor had never wished he could teleport as fast as he can in that moment.

Xiao knows there’s something. He doesn’t know what that something is- he just knows there’s something different. It’s been like this for the past month and it itches at the back of his head to know there’s something, but he doesn’t know what it is.

It started with that large beacon of light from the Golden House, which the Tianquan and the Liyue Qixing have dismissed and “taken care of”.

No matter, he will serve as he is supposed to.

Xiao scouts the entirety of Bishui Plains and finds only a stray slime or two.

He decides to search in Minlin and only gets the faint impression of Cloud Retainer, he figures Mountain Shaper and Moon Carver have gone into the city to have tea with Madame Ping.

Finally, he circles back to Qiongji Estuary and starts with Luhua Pool where he sees-

“Morax,” he says and bows, and immediately retracts to be on guard.

“There is someone here,” Xiao starts and is shocked when his God places a hand on his shoulder.

“Stand down, Xiao,” he says, “There is someone I’d like you to meet,”

The anemo adeptus furrows his brows in confusion, why was his God telling him to be at ease? His job was to protect him, so why would he stop him from doing so?

Morax calls out to a someone and a figure steps out from behind the tree.

“Xiao, I’d like you to meet her,” he says as he introduces you to him.

You in your typical Liyuean-style clothes, dressed up as a healer. You look just as… just as the day he lost you.

“She will be a… support of sorts, for you,” he says, then turns to you.

The warrior feels as if his heart has stopped, he cannot breathe, and there are a million thoughts and questions racing through his mind, but Rex Lapis continues.

“This is Xiao, you will be accompanying him, okay?”

“You will do your best to remember what you trained for, and support him, yes?”

He sees you nod, “Yes, Morax-shen,” you say and his God smiles.

“Very well, Xiao, I trust that you will protect her, I trust that you will support him, are we in agreement?”

“Yes,” the two of you say at the same time.

“I have business to attend to now, send for me if you need assistance,” he says as he bids goodbye and walks out of sight.

Xiao turns to look at you as you look back at him.

He goes to Ganyu.

“I- I just cannot fathom why he would give me her…” he says as he looks at you preparing tea with Madame Ping.

Ganyu had arranged for a meeting and roped in the older adeptus to look after you, his new… companion.

“Maybe it's about the karmic debt…” she says as she puts a hand under her chin.

“I feel as though this is punishment…” he says solemnly, then turns to her abruptly, “Have I done anything wrong recently?”

Xiao starts to spiral, “Is it because I haven't been doing my job right? I must have missed a swarm of creatures- I-”

“Please calm yourself, xiansheng,”

You.

Xiao does not know how to respond at the sight of you.

You place a cup of tea in front of him and he takes it, eyes still on you.

Ganyu doesn't know whether she should laugh or be concerned.

You continue to accompany Xiao to Wangshu Inn. You tell him you'd be fine with teleporting but he shut the idea down. Going on about how mortals are fragile.

He talks with the woman at the front desk and gestures to you, then takes your hand and leads you to a room.

“This is where you'll stay,” he tells you once you're inside. The room is simple, a window that has a balcony, a bed, a bathroom, and a wardrobe.

Xiao places a talisman on the door and on the window, then sets a teapot on the desk near it.

You hear him sigh.

“This is how it'll be,” he says and stops right in front of you, “You will stay here, okay? I will return after patrol a-and- and we can… we can do mortal activities to keep you…” he trails off.

“I have to stay with you,”

“What?”

“It's part of my contract with Morax-shen,” you tell him and show him your arm. Quickly, Xiao presses the palm of his hand and smooths over your skin.

Golden threads run through your veins.

A life bond.

“Why…”

You place a hand over his, “It is my contract, my duty to you, I am to support you and you are to protect me. Our contract.”

He must have really done something to piss off his god.

thought about saying this after seeing the ask somewhere but response to 4083, and i'm very sorry to bring it up since it's nagging me; its not just those reasons xiao wouldn't choose venti over liyue, he'd choose anyone for the guarantee of their safety as a guardian.

he'd choose the traveler over an oath and he chose rex lapis out of devotion and he WILL choose venti should trouble come to him but if the latter's presence affect liyue you wouldn't doubt where the priority really needs to go. phrasing it in that way shows a dependency he fell so hard for venti and this is the only major mischaracterization you can put on xiao because he loves someone to go all in and disregarding everything else.

this is the very thing that pisses some (i can't say all, i've never inserted myself into the discourse you said although i personally don't prefer them) xiaoven haters due to the romanticism resulting from two things; venti saved xiao, xiao thinks of the tune of the flute that saved him (not the flutist, which anyone can play for him) and other things that followed the brief interactions they have together.

i value both venti and xiao as their own characters and its the ship interpretation being the very problem the notion's completely ruin how they are in their core. its good to have fun with how you want to portray them, yes, but they've been one of the earliest characters so the first misconception in the name of how Compatible theyve come from a few leaks and hidden lore breaks any consistency that follows after, which then makes their concepts as partners very... off and out of the mark of what they made themselves to be. even their arts, aside how pretty it is, doesn't ring entirely true once you know their backstories as it's veiled by romanticism.

to make their goals in their connection ignores their importance to what surrounds them because its only about themselves now, which is a bit off for a character who symbolizes freedom and disattachment (in a way you're not bounded, you are you and what you choose to be) and a protector who gives his life to anyone who can't manage to save themselves, finding connections more than just one person in the past as he needs to focus on a future.

It only emphasized the true gravity of the injuries she had suffered at the hands of her students. Eyes closed, a soft sigh leaving the adeptus’s lips--Her azure eyes open half-liddedly, before she manages to use what little energy still within her to turn her head to face Lin Zhaoyu.

“Is there something you need ask of me?”

Xiao: Fainting HCS

FUCK. I FORGOT TO POST THIS EARLIER. AHHHH. I HAVE WORK IN LIKE 2 MINUTES SO I’LL BE BACK TO REPLY TO EVERYONE. 

Hey anon! So sorry it took me forever to finish writing this but good luck if you’re planning on pulling Xiao. I really wanted to finish writing this fic as an offering to the gacha gods that c1 xiao wants to bless me (even tho that’s not gonna happen). But good luck to everyone rolling today^^.

Disclaimer: I have not watch anything about Xiao because my hype can only take so much. This was written before 1.3. So if I get anything wrong or I’m missing something. That’s why.

Xiao: Fainting HCS

Instant panic mode engaged. If you’ve ever doubted his adepti power of swiftness you’re about to be mistaken. He’s noticed that you seem a bit out of it but brushed it off as you being tired from your recent journey. If there was anything bothering you, you would tell him. But as he turned around to greet you back, it seems like time is slowing down for him. He sees how your eyes glazed over and become unfocused. The muscles in your body snap and you drop to the ground. He can feel his blood run cold as past memories that have been waiting to jump at him suddenly claw at him but he doesn’t even register them. He’s already running towards you.

He’s already caught you in his arms before you can even meet the wooden floor. His brain is racing as he quickly checks your pulse to make sure you didn’t suffer from a heart attack or a curse. He makes a quick search over your body to check for any injuries, he can already feel the red hot iron of anger fill his system at the thought of someone trying to take advantage of you or threaten you. He’s usually logical in these types of situations, even the death of Rex Lapis didn’t shock him this much, but he’s been battling his conflicting feelings ever since he met you. But now that he’s finally accepted you and himself, he wouldn’t know what to do if anything happened to you. His mind flashes to Guizhong before he shakes away the thought.

It doesn’t occur to him that you might be sick as he tries to shake you awake. Whatever teachings Guizhong and Morax have taught him fly out the window as he holds you so close to his chest, he’s pretty sure his grip on you is bruising. He knew mortal souls weren’t as strong as adepti and staying around one might cause sickness or even worse- death. Was this his fault? He can feel the drop in his stomach as he tries to reign in his emotions and powers, not here.

Verr almost screams when Xiao breaks the wooden ceilings and lands in front of her. She’s scared that there was a monster outbreak or something was wrong with Xiao before she notices your passed out form in his arms. As much as she likes to joke around and thinks your relationship with Xiao is cute, she knows that if anything came to seriously harm you she wouldn’t able to calm Xiao before he goes on a rampage. You mean so much to him and he hasn’t opened his heart to anyone except you.

She can tell he’s nearly past his breaking point as he looks at her with dilated eyes as he asks, no commands, her to help you. It’s such whiplash to her. Xiao’s always been polite and reserved that she almost forgets he used to be a demon slaying Yaksha, but this isn’t the time for her to worry about that. She quickly leads him to the backroom since there’s no way Xiao wouldn’t bite any hand that comes near you. Bless Verr’s heart since this isn’t the first time she’s had to handle Xiao’s outbreaks that she manages to save face and contact a doctor that was staying at the inn to look at you. She does feel a bit bad for the doctor who looks like he’s about to piss himself in fear as Xiao growls and watches the doctors every move with piercing yellow eyes.

Xiao is still wary when the doctor and Verr try to calm him down and examine you more closely, always flinching back whenever their hands get too close to you, letting out a dangerous hiss whenever there’s the slightest twitch of discomfort in your face when the doctor feels your heated forehead. As soon as the doctor concludes that you’ve been sick for the past few days and your body just needs to heal itself and recharge, the tension on Xiao’s shoulder loosens and the suffocating aura that’s been filling the room slowly filters out. Verr can’t help but sigh in relief but can’t bring herself to scold Xiao for breaking the inns roof as she watches him look over your form with worried eyes as he softly nudges your cheek. He’s still holding you but his grip has loosen slightly as he rests his forehead against yours. He breathes a sigh of relief as he rubs small circles in your hand. Xiao’s never been the most affectionate or shown to be the most caring but you’ve seriously scared him. She quietly leaves him be and closes the door as she begins to prepare to fix the damages.

Xiao never leaves your side as he waits for you to wake up. He can’t help but berate himself for not confronting you. The doctor said you would be fine but he can’t but imagine your body falling in a more violent scene. He quickly shakes those thoughts away as he paces around the room, sits besides you, then goes back to pacing. Usually he would go on a walk or beat his aggression out but he doesn’t want to leave you alone should you awake early.

Xiao doesn’t ramble about his day while you’re asleep, instead he just observes your features and the small movements you make to remind him that you’re okay. How your chest moves up and down as you breath or how your eyes sometimes scrunch in sleep. You’ve made him almost trip when you did it the first time since he thought you were waking up. He can’t help but think back to his fellow Yaksha’s and what they would say if they saw the way he was acting now.

Since his panic attack has mostly subsided he’s found himself growing more curious. He’s still worried about you but he’s managed to reason with himself that you’re okay, just sick which he’s going to scold you a bit for when you awake, so he softly brushes his fingers across your face. Before snatching his hand away in embarrassment. What the hell is he doing? Guizhong would slap him sideways if she saw him now. He huffs at himself as he deflates a little and rests his head on the bed beside your head. He’s patient. He will wait when your ready to wake up.

When you suddenly gain consciousness, it feels as if the entire world is weighing you down. You slowly blink open your eyes to see a worried Xiao hovering over you, his hands awkwardly in the air since he’s not sure if it’s okay to touch you.

“How are you feeling?” Xiao asks as his eyes dart all over the place before resting on your face. You’re still a bit out of it but you can tell he must have been really worried. You try to give him a small smile but with how scuffy you feel you can bet it’s not a pretty picture.

“Like I got slammed with one of Zhongli’s meteors,” you tried to laughed before coughing as Xiao quickly pressed a cup of water to your lips. Slowly letting you drink and calm down. 

“If you have time to make jokes then you’re alright” Xiao sighs before his features change slightly. His eyes glaze over in concern as a small frown appears. He really does look like a kicked kitten as he slumps over as the stress finally lifts as he feels your hand softly run through his hair.

“Sorry,” you say, he must have been so stressed out while you were passed out for him to look so exhausted. He simply nudges into your hand before turning his face to kiss your palm,

“There’s no need for apologies. I’m...just glad you’re okay,” Xiao mumbles before he’s back to pressing his head into your stomach. You can’t help but smile delicately as you reach over and bring Xiao up with you until he’s lying over you as you hug him gently. There’s a bit of shuffling before you’re able to spoon him as he let’s himself relax after the two day panic attack he just went through.

When you’ve fully recovered Xiao seems to hover around you a bit more. Well not a bit, a lot more, but no one has the heart to tell him that. It’s actually kind of adorable seeing the aloof and reserved adepti seem to follow you around like a loss duckling. Making sure you’re okay and you’re not overworking yourself. He still keeps his tough demeanor but you seriously gave him a big scare.

When Zhongli and Childe come over for their weekly visits of tea, they were aware that Xiao had locked himself in a room to watch over you and anyone that even stepped near the door would be skewered with a spear - and Verr would make them pay for the damages (Zhongli) and whatever consequences Xiao saw fit (Childe) - but they are happy to see you’re okay. You all fall back into your usual rhythm of conversation or Childe trying to get a rise out of Xiao while you and Zhongli talk about how lovely the weather’s been.

Zhongli let’s you in on some details that Xiao or Verr never mentioned while Childe and Xiao are fighting about who knows what. How Xiao wouldn’t leave your side or that he resembled a kicked kitten as he nudged your hand when he thought no one was looking. He offers you some medicine herbs to help with exhaustion and to take care of yourself. Likewise, to give Xiao some pain medication on his behalf. You’re one of the few good things in Xiao’s life and he doesn’t want anything bad happening to you.

oh oh xiao alone in sumeru. he doesn't sleep. everyone else is stuck in dreamland, meanwhile xiao is the only one awake in the entire city aside from those involved in the dream harvesting, and hes being the world's most aggressive detective about it.

Absolutely brilliant. Listen, listen, how about this:

Xiao wakes up to a city devoid of dreams.

At first, he's afraid. Xiao has not slept for a long time, and has not lost control for even longer. It's been thousands of years since he'd succumbed to the waves of hunger, torn apart towns in a mindless rampage, devouring dreams and leaving nothing but catatonic husks. The thought of being reduced to that mindless beast—of betraying the redemption he had sacrificed so much for—why, oh why had Rex Lapis not allowed him to perish in the depths of the Chasm, if this is what he had survived for?

Desperate, Xiao dove into Lumine's dream, trying to find any remaining scraps for him to piece together. Only, there was nothing. Her dream was gone, cut clean with surgical precision in ways that no dream-eater could leave behind.

It was then that he found the thread connecting her mind to the Akasha terminal, and suspicion grows in his mind. He follows the thread into the nebulous land of dreams, just in time to see the last of them dissolve into nothingness.

From the space between dreams, he sees the dreams of the people of Sumeru. He sees how their minds clutch onto their dreams, only for them to be swept away with no regard of the damage left behind. He sees lives flicker under the torture he used to inflict on his master's worst enemies, and for a moment he's back in the archon war, helpless and afraid against the might of the god of dreams.

Then he's just pissed.

Whichever creature had dreamt up this cruel abomination is going to feel the wrath of a true dream-devourer.

She nearly gasped as the woman walked in, her hair now styled and her eyes shining brighter than before, the mysterious tattoos seemed to have faded and though she was still striking she looked far more human than before. The Celestial Archon merely smiled at the woman’s surprise and stepped towards her, hand out.

“We should talk, my child. Fate had brought us together, an astrologist with a water vision instead of a celestial vision is strange enough.” The woman was calm but not cold as Mona took her hand.

Mona was warm as the gentle archon interlocked their fingers and led her to the corner of the room, sinking down into a comfy chair and pointing at the one next to her. Disappointment creeped up in the astrologist as her idol released her hand. It was quickly replaced with embarrassment and a soft flush across her cheeks. Mona was wholeheartedly captured by the mystery goddess.

“I’m sure you’re aware,” The bright eyes goddess sighed, “That my arrival in Teyvat has stirred up some trouble.”

Mona frowned slightly, “There was already trouble, your sudden appearance is not the cause of it.”

“That’s good, but I still feel that my presence is going to stir the pot a bit. I am connected to all the stars and spaces of this world, I can feel and see things so deeply and I am well aware that there are challenges coming. It’s annoying in some ways.” Her eyes were distant again.

Words were lost on Mona for a moment. She couldn’t begin to imagine how stressful it was to feel so deeply, to constantly be overwhelmed by information and one’s connection to the world. Every piece of text written about the Celestial Archon was very vague. Information on the god of stars was hard to find and many details had been lost, yet one thing seemed to stay the same in ever piece of information Mona had consumed.

Even when the world was teeming with elemental energy and gods were far more common, the goddess of the sky, Seraphim, was an oddity. Before the Archon war, Seraphim was a lone wolf being without many ties. The last god of stars kept to herself and had no desire to interfere with the other’s problems, despite knowing so much of them. It was incredibly lonely and sad.

“You said it’s strange that I have a water vision,” Mona finally spoke.

“Yes,” The archon clicked her tongue, “Had I been around, somebody like you would’ve received a vision from me. However, you did not receive one of my visions and ultimately that should’ve impacted your abilities over astrology but it did not. You are quite the gifted character, aren’t you Miss Mona?”

Mona’s face was tomato red at the words of the beloved celestial archon, “I am honored to be complimented by the goddess of stars.”

“You’re very formal,” The starry eyed goddess laughed.

“Excuse me,” the two were interrupted by none other than the acting grandmaster, “I would like a word with the Lady of the Stars.”

Mona was hesitant, not wanting her idol to slip away but nodded and escorted the woman to the door. She was a bit dissatisfied with the conversation they’d had, wanting to know more and more of her long awaited god. The woman turned back to Mona, eyes twinkling, and embraced her. The normally level headed and somewhat haughty astrologist stiffened in shock but returned the warm hug. A sigh escaped Mona’s mouth, but she didn’t mind. The goddess was warm and something about her affection put Mona at peace.

“I am so lucky that somebody as beautiful and gifted as you awaited my return, Mona Megistus. Until we meet again, my darling.” The woman’s grasp around Mona tightened as she whispered in her ear.

The water mage watched as the strange goddess gracefully glided away with Jean. She was ethereal with the moonlight filtering in from tall windows, her skin illuminated as she hung on to every word Jean said. Even the confident and ever busy acting grandmaster found butterflies swarming her abdomen at the sight of the goddess. Jean felt as if she could be swept away by the young woman.

A part of Jean felt guilty for several reasons. As acting grand master, it was her duty to know about the citizens of Mond, it was her duty to work without personal emotions interfering, and her duty to oversee the safety of all the wind borne citizens. The Celestial Archon was challenging all of these duties. It was only natural for an astrologist to be obsessed with a god of stars, and Jean had interrupted the conversation. The Dandelion Knight couldn’t help but feel an innocent sort of crush on the goddess, she was kind and beautiful and she really seemed to want to get to know everyone. Ultimately, Jean was also aware of the danger a new archon posed.

Even so, the beautiful knight couldn’t help but want to push all those thoughts aside and capture the attention of the goddess for hours. She shook off that thought, attempting to focus on her duty as Mondstat’s respected Grand Master. Jean explained the general politics of the city of freedom and the individual jobs of the knights of favonious. She even went as far as to explain the adventurer’s guild and the recent trouble with Storm Terror. The Celestial Archon hung on to every word, nodding and asking occasional questions.

Jean took the time to explain the place they were in, a place between Mondstat and Liyue, and the teleport points that marked both countries. She was diligent and had already prepared some documents for the 8th Archon, maps and other things needed in the world. Jean had even communicated with others to ensure each safe place for the archon was marked. The allied domain was the middle ground, but Mondstat welcomed the new Archon with a living place and much to do. Liyue had also prepared a small home in the city for her.

The archon stared in wonder at the map. The knights of Favonious had prepared a room for her in their own head quarters, even the esteemed Tycoon had set aside a room. Wangshuu Inn welcomed her and Liyue Harbor gave her quarters close to Rex Lapis. Small notes were written for her, both Xiao and Diluc noted the stars were best seen from where they were while the traveler and Paimon had starred their favorite places to eat.

“Ah, Master Jean.” The Goddess spoke slowly, bowing.

“Please, Seraphim, there’s no reason to be so formal!” Jean’s voice rose nervously, “You are an archon after all.”

“Yes, that’s true. You do not serve me though, please refer to me as my chosen name. Formalities aren’t my taste much.” The Archon remarked bashfully.

Jean nodded, rose dusting her cheeks.

“I,” The Archon sighed, “Really need an open space so I can, uh, deal with my weapon situation.”

“Oh, oh!” Realization hit Jean.

“Oh, I am so sorry,” Jean babbled nervously, “Here let us go out to the cliffs, it should be okay, right?”

“Mhm,” The goddess followed the knight to the exit.

Aether and Paimon were also by the exit, turning at the sound of approaching foot steps. Aether grinned and waved at the Celestial Archon, she waved back and beamed. Paimon immediately took off, throwing herself into the Archons arms as the woman giggled. Jean’s face was priceless, attempting to process how this small otherworldly creature could just tackle and archon without shame.

Aether and his companion followed the two women, curious about the weapon another archon would wield. The group made their way to the edge of the cliff, the stars seeming extra bright and the moon full. The goddess lowered herself, feet on the lush grass and put her hand forth, palm out. Swiftly, she struck the air in front of her with her pointer finger, an unfamiliar constellation connecting at each point.

“Return to your master, Destroyer of Divinity.” Her words were clear and calm.

The constellation burst into a ray of white light, Aether covered his eyes as Paimon whined. Darkness fell again and he opened his eyes, gasping at the sight in front of him. The goddess held a long weapon close to her body, above her shoulder was a large opalescent curved blade, below the hip on the opposite side, another shimmering curved blade could be seen. No weapon in Teyvat was even similar.

“I-Is is that a scythe?!” Jean sputtered.

“Aha, well yes,” The goddess blushed at their reactions, “Destroyer of Divinity is an unusual weapon, meant to slice through dimensional and spatial barriers. I didn’t mean to shock you.”

Aether stood, mouth agape, “Even its name is terrifying! What the hell?”

“Ahahaha,” the archon continued to laugh nervously, “Well, its existence is basically to bring judgement from the heavens upon those deserving so yeah it’s a bit intimidating.”

Aether nearly screamed. How could she say something so casually?

The traveler was feeling a bit nervous, as anybody would if an Archon decided to tag along for their daily commissions. Paimon and the Celestial Archon chattered away as Aether spoke to the Katheryne in Liyue. It did not help that the three had left before the others awoke and the Celestial Archon had left a note declaring it as a “friendly date.”

The last thing Aether wanted was to piss off literally any of the adepti, the Geo Archon himself, and even Jean who had taken a very noticeable interest in the goddess. A cloud seemed to look over the blonde but Paimon didn’t notice. The eighth Archon gave the teenager a sympathetic smile and put her hand on his shoulder, attempting to ease his nerves. Only one thing could make the situation worse, and unfortunately that particular thing was heading straight towards Aether.

“Let’s run,” Aether grabbed the startled archon’s wrist and dragged her to the teleport point nearby, ignoring the calls of a certain troublesome individual.

The archon chuckled, “I didn’t know daily commissions would be so exciting!”

Aether smiled sheepishly and let go of her wrist, trying to focus on which commission to start with. He was distracted by a sudden commotion, people yelled out as a hooded figure darted past the trio. Liyue Harbor’s guards thundered after the thief, knocking the poor panicked goddess off her feet.

The eight archon shut her eyes and prepared for the impact of the fall, but was yanked back by a pair of strong arms.

“Hey, girlie. Hold still.” A charming voice said.

The goddess watched as the lanky ginger haired man moved forward and shot an arrow, narrowly missing all the guard and hitting the suspicious character in the back. Aether’s eyes were filled with shock and panic at the sight of the man. Immediately, the goddess side stepped away from her hero, on high alert.

“Now,” He turned to her beaming, “What exactly is such a beautiful young lady doing with this kiddo?”

Her starry eyes met his azure eyes, “I’m just a new adventurer from Mondstat, learning the ropes from the best.”

“Hmm?” His gaze was questioning, “Well then, I’m Childe. Number 11 of the Fatui Harbingers. We should definitely get to know each other.”

The goddess moved to Aether in a quick swift movement. Suddenly, she wanted very much to escape Liyue Harbor. The Fatui were trouble, the goddess was new to the era but even she knew that they were dangerous. It was one of the first matters addressed at her arrival. She no longer knew the Cryo Archon, and this Tsarita sounded troubling.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” an annoyed voice chimed in, averting the red head’s attention.

A shorter man with a large hat and ominous aura stood behind the tall harbinger. Aether tensed up and the goddess wrapped her arm around his shoulder. Slowly, the trio made their escape at the expense of Childe. The older harbinger was chewing the younger man out for flirting and wasting time, both harbingers bickered as the traveler and his companions fled.

“You shouldn’t be wasting time on trying to get laid you, fool.” Scaramouche scowled, still ripping into his subordinate. “Especially not that woman, even from a mile away I can tell she’s trouble. You’re a harbinger not a host, get your shit together, Tartaglia.”

Childe smirked, looking down on his superior, “So you noticed her, too. I wonder what someone like that is doing with my favorite traveler.”

“We should alert the Tsarita of that girl,” Scaramouche mumbled, avoiding the earlier comment.

“I actually agree,” Childe’s eyes narrowed, “I was hoping to see for myself what she is, but that kid stopped me of course. There’s something strange about her but I can’t quite put my finger on it. Maybe I can charm it out of her?”

Scaramouche slapped his comrades back, “Let’s go you useless fucking playboy.”

Wangshuu Inn looked beautiful and the aroma of food was far too enticing. Aether sighed as he watched his small, chubby companion chase after the eighth archon. The woman was supposed to be divine, yet in some ways he reminded her of a puppy or a kitten. She was somewhat moody with her affections and spacey like a kitten may be, and still somehow clingy and energetic like a puppy.

Luckily for the two, Aether had a commission from Verr Goldet. The blonde tried to maintain composure as he saw a familiar dark haired yaksha speaking with the Inn Keeper, not wanting to admit he’d accidentally led the Fatui straight to the Archon. The traveler watched in fascination and amusement as Verr’s face twisted from composed to horrified when Xiao was knocked over by the goddess. The conqueror of demons merely grunted and stood back up, clutching the ethereal woman to his chest.

Xiao’s eyes were cold as they met Aether’s, clearly annoyed with the boy, but his expression softened at the yawning goddess in his arms. Once again, the traveler was overcome with curiosity at her behavior. Only moments ago the woman was bubbly and hyper, now her eyes were fluttering and she was snuggling up to one of the most dangerous beings in Teyvat. Without a word, the tattooed man spun around and carried the goddess upstairs.

“I’m here for your com-“ Aether began.

“Who was that?!” Verr Goldet burst out, “I’ve never seen Adeptus Xiao so damn agreeable. What just happened? Is this a dream?”

Paimon giggled, “He loooooves her! That person is the one we told you about before! Even Xiao can’t be in a bad mood around her, it’s amazing!”

“Oh,” Verr blushed at Paimon’s words, “She’s that person? No wonder he’s been so restless.”

“Wait, restless?” Aether questioned.

Verr Sighed and beckoned the two to a guest free area. The two followed her into a small back room, exchanging glances. The boss lady pulled out an old book and brushed the dust away. Aether and Paimon peered down at the book, puzzled by its appearance. It was a dark leather with carvings of the moon and clouds on the front.

Carefully, Verr flipped the book open and turned it to the two. Paimon shot up, shrieking. The book looked like a book you’d find in a library but was strange. Instead of ongoing text, the pages had scraps and pieces stuck on the pages with various notes scribbled around. Verr turned to the first page, placing her middle finger at the beginning text and giving Aether and expectant look. The traveler leaned down and began to read the text.

“The moonlight phenomenon: Legend of Liyue.

It is said that there was once a ruler of the stars, one who ruled over the sky as the Gods rule over our land. When tides of war overcame Liyue, Rex Lapis sought out the monarch of the sky to form a contract.

Seraphim granted Rex Lapis the moonlight phenomenon. Liyue’s skies were never to dim even on the darkest of nights, the moon and stars would remain as guides for Liyue always. It is said that this contract assisted in bringing the evil gods to their doom, the sky illuminating the way to victory for Liyue and all of Teyvat.”

Verr flipped the page as Aether exhaled trying to wrap his mind around the strange passage.

“The Contract: Seraphim and Rex Lapis.

The circumstances of the moonlight phenomenon still remain unknown. It is an ancient mystery that many still attempt to solve, what exactly did the Geo Archon barter for his people?

Nobody knows, still. However, the most common theories are that the contract has not been fulfilled or that there was no contract to begin with. Many believe that Rex Lapis and Seraphim were secret lovers, and this was Seraphim’s gift to her beloved. Others hypothesize that Seraphim’s wish was never fulfilled, as her death sealed the victory for The Seven Archons.”

Aether shuddered. People in Liyue believe that The Celestial Archon died in the Archon war? Verr flipped to a page in the middle of the book.

“Liyue’s Priestess Seraphim

It is said that a woman with eyes vast like the galaxy beyond and mysterious astrological powers once enchanted all of Liyue.

Seraphim, the last Celestial wielder was Liyue’s last hope. Though she is not honored as an archon, she is known vaguely as a priestess. The woman who captured the attention of the archon’s themselves and was adored by the Adepti. Few remain, but Liyue’s legends claim that the priestess of the stars was the lover of Rex Lapis, the lover of the Vigilant Yaksha, or the lover another adepti.

Even fewer discuss the devastation that occurred when she fell from grace. Her death was the catalyst of the only known battle between Liyue’s very own Archon, The Anemo Archon and his people, and the Adepti. A lesser known battle that almost forced both Mondstat and Liyue into Civil Wars.

When the dust settled, all that stood was the full moon. Many Adepti still honor the priestess under the moonlight by fighting evil spirits and demons.”

Aether’s eyes widened at Verr. She solemnly shook her head as the traveler’s face fell. Xiao, Ganyu, Zhongli, Venti, all of them suffered so terribly. It was confusing to the boy that every text described the Celestial Archon as deceased. His head began to hurt from the information. Verr sighed and led him back out.

“Once you finish commissions, why don’t you two stay here? I’ll prepare a room for you,” The boss was sympathetic.

Aether grimaced but nodded, leading Paimon out to finish their duties.

Somewhere in the shadows of Wangshuu Inn crept a Fatui agent, slipping away as the traveler set out. The shadowy figure grinned at the piece of paper in their hand.

“Protected by the traveler and the Adepti. Master Childe will be interested in this,” His eyes were dark as he approached his fellow Fatui agents, “She could be very useful to us, this (Y/N).”

The suspicious shadows began to slink away, overcome with desire to inform their boss of the new information. Only a few feet away, a strange creature ducked down to avoid being seen by the agents, fidgeting.

“The angel is here!” The creature shrieked as the cult like group left it’s sight, “(Y/N) will be ours.”

But since most of the townsfolk trust you, and you don’t seem to so much as to hurt any innocent citizen, he won’t do much.

He keeps an eye on you though.

Figuring out you were mute was simple. 

One time you were hanging out the Verr, and he noticed you never spoke or utter a single word to her, you mostly just nodded or shook your head when she was conversing with you.

And hand gestures. Loads of it which confused him and surprised him that Verr understood what you were trying to “say”.

He just straight up went up to you and blatantly asked, “ Why aren’t you speaking?”

You just straight up look at him with a “seriously? Verr is he stupid??” type of look.

Verr had to explain to Xiao you were mute, and that you couldn’t speak and had to communicate through hand gestures and written notes.

You took a notepad out and wrote some sassy shit to Xiao saying : “For someone who lived for thousands of years, you never met someone like me? That’s saying something about your friend group.” Enough to make him pissed-

But, it’s all fine now.

He’s caught you hurt people in Liyue, but they were usually criminals, thieves and corrupt shop owners who just didn’t pay up, or you were assigned to... take them out.

Xiao had to constantly nag at you.

Yes, it’s true, their bad people. But you can’t frEAKIN’ KILL THEM-

You just looked unamused and shrugged, leaving Xiao to face palm.

Your relationship might be funny to watch, but Xiao is willing to be close and loosen with you.

Okay but 100% Xiao and Hu Tao would be perfect, he already admits that he finds her entertaining and that’s enough for my brain to go wild, Hu Tao is a business woman and takes shit from nobody, but also can’t be serious most of the time, and I feel like that would piss him off more than anything, also feels like the one instance he can’t run to Zhongli for help bc like,Hu Tao is his wallet boss. On that note, Hu Tao in a way has power over Zhongli, I can’t decide if Xiao would go for the mental angle of “she has a certain amount of power over Rex Lapis and that’s not allowed, down to wife status you go” or in his mind since she has authority over Rez Lapis, if he were to have authority over her, that technically makes him superior from his fucked up mindset. The brainrot is real 😔

I've mentioned it before but I feel like deep down Xiao has a slight craving for power over someone which is a strong part of the reason he is so likely to become yandere. He would also be irritated by her but like, he would find himself coming back. He doesn't know why he keeps hanging around someone that annoys him a bit, but... Hu Tao pretty... And his thoughts get darker and darker, he's just very lacking in self awareness and wouldn't really realize what's going on in his brain until he's already balls deep, poor thing

She can be quite excited about certain Topics, for example Rex Lapis or the Jade chamber, however she keeps a Level head when presenting facts. Her thirst for knowledge is hard to quench and she has tons of theories she loves to make Up in her head. Is a terrible Cook, but more in the way that her good looks horrible but actually tasted good.

I've thought about faves interacting before and it's one of my BIG FAVORITE INDULGENT THINGS to think about

Viren and Fitzgerald are an interesting pair - I think that Viren, while he appears fairly confident and powerful, is actually full of self doubt and insecurities, and someone as truly self confident and cocky as Fitzgerald would absolutely rub him the wrong way and appear as a Threat to him. So he hates Fitzgerald almost immediately fkdjahfkjdsa

Fitzgerald, on the other hand, is like. I feel like generally he's ambivalent about most folks unless they're his employees, get in his way, or do something of note. People are generally a means to an end. So he's mostly ambivalent to Viren and doesn't really see him as a threat so fdskjahfdjsa

You have Viren trying to one up Fitzgerald repeatedly while Fitzgerald is just like that's nice old sport. fkjdahfkjdahs

Kunikida wants nothing to do with either of them most likely BUT I feel like he'd get along well with Zhongli and Xiao (who I had to add into this even though you didn't mention him fkjdsahfk I just had to!). I don't think Kunikida would be much bothered by Xiao's stand offish nature, and I think he and Zhongli would get along pretty well and could chat about things for a while. I think that Xiao would find Kunikida agreeable ("as far as humans go" he clarifies) since he's generally pretty rational. Zhongli is interested in the concept of Kunikida's ideals as a kind of contract with the self in particular I think.

I call it a crackship BUT I was thinking about how I decided my bsd si plays videogames, so why not have her show them to Kunikida, and why not have one be Genshin? SO yeah Kunikida the geo polearm user who left Inazuma prior to it getting locked down, because he was curious about the teachings and ideals of Rex Lapis, as he felt them as aligned to his own. He runs into a man named Zhongli who becomes his sparring partner and tea buddy, and he's also taking on commissions as part of the Adventurer's Guild, and ends up with a partner named Wendy who he's frankly worried is going to get herself killed one day if he doesn't help her. He then has a bi panic because BOTH OF THEM??? ARE LOVELY??? and then later he gets to date them both the end fdjsafkdsah thinks about this AU more than I meant to

I also considered a few others in Genshin recently

Fitzgerald is an electro claymore user. He's a very rich man in Fontaine who lost his daughter. It was at that time he received his electro vision, because his entire goals and hopes and dreams revolve around bringing her back to life, ie maintaining things as they had been, or in fewer words eternity. Given the Inazuma has contracted Fontaine for mechanical works even under the lockdown decree, he wants to get himself over there to get an audience with the Raiden Shogun to figure out if she can help him in his pursuit of eternity. He's bold. Very bold.

As for Viren. I think that Viren would fit most involved in Khaenri'ah somehow. For those not super familiar with Genshin, Khaenri'ah was a human civilization that had no god, but made incredible technology some of which still tries to kill you today, even though they were destroyed 500 years ago by "the gods" (not like Zhongli and Venti, like the gods ABOVE them). They seem to also have some magic of their own, if Dainsleif is any indication. Most of them got turned to Abyss Mages and other monsters 500 years ago...it just kinda feels like this lines up well with dark magic in my brain. So Viren might be one who didn't get turned into an Abyss Mage, and he's pissed at the gods, and probably helping run the Abyss' plots and plans while fronting as a human somewhere else. Maybe Mondstadt.

ANYWAY YEAH that's a lot of me rambling. Not entirely on focus either so apologies KFHWJFWKJE but I had a lot of fun thinking about this!!!

Between the persons you don’t want to piss, is him, he might look sweet but with his family (or pack) he goes ballistic, with his partner is worse

When he saw someone flitting with... oh boy, he was seeing CRISMON

The next thing you know is that Razor is punching this guy in his face, not caring if he is going to kill that guy

You managed to turn him away from him, he immediately went from berserk wolf mode to worried puppy mode

You thanked him but also scolded him from that

He was mad but managed to control himself

The guy told everyone that Zhongli was Rex Lapis but nobody believed him, he was the mad of Liyue and when trying to prove himself, he ended up killed by a Ruin Hunter

Xiao: Falling Hard In Love HCs

He knows what love is but never thought he would experience this strong of an emotion. He's respected people such as his fellow adepti and Rex Lapis and he has a somewhat close relationship with Ming. He's felt protective over Liyue and children but never for a single person.

His first thoughts are you must either be an unannounced adepti that somehow came to be or you were an evil demon that somehow laid a curse on him. Both very implausible since he can tell you were human and you would never have an opening to curse him before his spear would get to you first.

He watches you, wondering why you've captured so much of his attention. You can feel someone's eyes on you but every time you turn around you don't see anyone.

You go to Xiao worried that a demon might be stalking you since he is the Guardian Yaksha and he might be able to help you. When he sees how frightened you are because of his actions, he immediately stops borderline stalking you. He tells you he will take care of it and you won't need to worry about anything.

He tries to keep his distance and aloof manner to make you both drift apart more since a relationship would not be the best considering he is an adepti, but he does dote on you in his own way without realizing it. It just comes naturally to him.

If you bring a gift or a plate of almond tofu, he can't deny an offering. That would just be rude. This is ignoring the fact that he's never concerned himself with prayers or offerings in the past, let alone appear in front of that person except for you.

If you're a traveler he would silently watch over your path. He won't be watching you from any shadows since that didn't go so well the first time so he'll clear the path so you won't run into monsters. Half way through he get's a bit pissed at his behaviour, that he's doing so much for one person when adepti usually seclude themselves yet here he is in the open, killing fodder when he’s faces demons that could swallow Liyue. But then he thinks about you getting hurt and he's right back to work.

He finds himself missing your presence when you’re not at the inn for an extended period of time. Looking out over Liyue from the roof of the inn hoping to see you appear just over the hill. Whenever Ming points out that he’s missing you because he likes you he frowns at himself. Has he really fallen that hard? He tries to clears his mind by fighting something but his walk back always makes him reflect.

When you return and remark about how easy your trip was. That there were no monsters anyways near their camps and how peaceful it was, he simply shrugs and nods in agreement.

"Xiao? I'm back from my travels!" you call out in the open space where you would usually find him. You had just gotten back from what was suppose to be a 2 week long trip which only lasted for half the time.

"You're back early"

You nearly shrieked in shock. No matter how many times you've talked with Xiao, his sudden appearance always startles you. You slowly calmed your heart as you turned to see the adepti sitting on the roof of the inn, staring up at the night sky.

"You know, it was kind of funny actually. I passed by many hilichurls camps but I never saw any,” you stated reminiscing your trip as you side eyed the adepti, “would you have anything to do with that?”

“You were taking a dangerous route. You should stay on the main road from now on. It would be foolish for you to die out of sheer curiosity and to something like a hilichurl”  he scolds, crossing his arms as he peers down annoyed at you while you sheepishly smile back.

“Aw its not too bad. At least I can count on you Xiao. Going out and protecting Liyue as the Guardian yaksha” you chucked. He can feel the tips of his ears start to blush. But before you can see his face turn pink he suddenly stands up and puts his mask on as he materializes his spear.

“Yes and I must go again. There are more hilichurls coming too close to the inn. I’ll have to deal with it before they cause more trouble” he quickly nods to you as he jumps down from the roof he was perched on

“Oh...alright, have a safe travel” you silently wave to his back as he passes you

“Likewise”

You watched him jump off from the railing to the inn and into the trees as he disappeared into the night. The green glow of his mask fading away the further he ran. He really was incredible.

“Hah, I was so close this time” you sigh, you were trying to lead your compliment into something more but Xiao cut your conversation short. Maybe he did know of your deeper feelings and was trying to softly reject them and you? You quickly slapped your cheeks getting rid of those bad thoughts

“Well, there's always tomorrow” you smiled, hyping yourself up to hopefully tell the aloof adepti your feelings for him.

the oldest of the five but has the mindset of a toddler. he does get serious when he needs to but his siblings have a hard time taking him seriously because of how proud he is ( think itto but on a lesser scale and considerably smarter ).

he's actually a really good big brother and respects his fellow yaksha quite a bit and will support their decisions the best he can.

he also revokes shirts, partly because he ends up tearing them thanks to his four arms and partly because they are overrated and yes, menogias is just being a priss about it.

very much into practical jokes and while he doesn't dare piss menogias off, he takes them out on xiao to 'liven him up' a little. a bit of 'tough love' but not really because he apologizes in the end and everything.

he's the typical jock older brother with the emo younger brother.

his illuminated beast form is a large snake since his formal title, 'vritras' references the soaring snake or 'tengshe' in the chinese voicelines. the vritra is also a large serpent in the vedas so there is a possibility that we have a huge ass snake.

can hug all his siblings at the same time. four arms = four yakshas.

modern ! bosacius is probably a sports instructor. he works well with kids ( having raised two girls and a boy ) and they seem to really like him and his personality.

acts like he has one braincell, actually has two.

he does wear shirts in public ( thank god ) but he tends to walk around the house without one.

this does end up with you running into him once and after a good ten minutes of xiao screeching at him to wear one while covering your eyes.

a thousand awkward apologies later, he's just sitting on the couch, head in his hands, internally screaming.

accepts you right away. he gives great hugs and usually escorts you when you need to go somewhere. the ultimate big brother figure and yes, he does start pranking you too. consider it a milestone ; it means he sees you as a new younger sibling to victimize.

basically, he adopts you into his family. oh, you're going to miss dinner? he's there with food in his hand, live with it.

&& . menogias ( geo )

the second oldest of the five, but in terms of maturity, he's jokingly named the oldest by bosacius and indarius.

he tends to keep bosacius in check and brings him down a few notches ( not unlike kuki shinobu and itto ) and he's very dedicated to rex lapis, emulating a lot of his ideals and behaviors ( the ultimate fanboy ).

because of this, he tries to appear stoic and well read but he ends up cracking a lot of times and fails to keep up that persona ( and he's a bit of a blockhead himself ). he never admits it and simply states he only harbors a deep respect for rex lapis. no one believes him.

the literal mom of the group, will tell you to practice self care and drink plenty of water.

everyone calls him 'gege xinyuan', no questions asked ; even xiao does from time to time ( but he seems to only do so in private, in times when they weren't battling ).

he's also the most fashionable and always tries to get bosacius to wear a proper set of robes but in vain. his blockheaded-ness comes into play here because he keeps forgetting his brother has, you know, four arms and every set he gets has two sleeves.

menogias has in interest in embroidery as well and sews in his free time. he's the one the yakshas go to for mending clothes.

his illuminated beast form is a monkey since his official title, kapisas or xinyuan, ( which lit. means 'mind/heart monkey' or 'the restless monkey' ) references sun wukong ( who was birthed from, you guessed it, stone ), also given the 'restless monkey' title.

it's a little ironic because from what we know about menogias, he is the total opposite of the free spirited and near menace to society monkey king. he's a good monkey-boi.

modern ! menogias still upholds the title of group mom. he runs a tea shop where his siblings tend to hang out from time to time if they ever need a break or someone to talk to.

the only one with sense in this house apart from xiao.

his initial thoughts about you are typical asian parent ; he does not seem to like you all that much, but he's polite and hospitable no less.

but he softens up much faster, especially when he sees how happy xiao feels around you. this backfires pretty quick because oop- he's now planning the wedding ( pls stop ).

he's read all four of the chinese literary classics with journey to the west being one of his favorites. is this a call back to his chinese title being a jttw reference? yes it is.

always stores snacks in the kitchen for hungry siblings and actually keeps track of it so the supply never runs short.

or bby xiao; he's the suffering middle child and the outlet to bosacius' character building jokes and he hates them but is very amused by them at the same time.

the yakshas tend to balance his doom and gloom a lot and makes sure he's taking care of himself. it's evident that they worry about him a lot, given his self- loathing and the shit he's been through and he feels...conflicted about it all at best.

there is some appreciation though. a part of him is a little glad that they do care enough.

he looks up to bosacius and his leadership ( the guy is very reliable ) and menogias' teachings of the adepti. since they were his seniors, rex lapis tasked them with teaching him their ways and a bond seemed to develop pretty quick from that.

his outfit was actually from the latter because when menogias met him for the first time, he had a literal heart attack when he saw the rags he was wearing.

wore his hair pretty long for a good chunk of his time with the adepti until it got snagged mid battle with a demon and burned off.

bosacius was the one who cut his hair to even out the charred ends, did a terrible job at it but xiao did not allow anyone else to do it after. it got better once he seemed to get the hang of it and he would frequently go to him for haircuts.

his illuminated beast form is an eagle, or at the very least a mythical bird. 'alatus' means 'winged' in latin but his chinese title 'jinpeng' actually references this. furthermore, the character in his name 'xiao' is a pun and it can be read as 'peng' as well, so there.

jinpengs are large birds in chinese mythos and are very closely associated with garuda, who either appears as a large eagle or a half man half eagle in vedic mythology ( who was also the mount of lord vishnu, the four armed dude ).

modern ! xiao is still in college, the two of you sharing the same history class. he's understandably pretty nervous when it comes to you meeting his four siblings since they can differ between loud, overbearing and maybe a little hostile.

genuinely relieved you see to be getting along with them. he had initially prepped you on how to handle them just in case something cataclysmic happens.

said relief melts away into horror when he realizes you guys are getting along too well.

experiences constant embarrassment because they always have some funny story about that they want to share. but it's pretty clear they love him all the same. all four of them are like his hype crew when he's stressed...which is most of the time.

he dresses like he's emo but he's actually not. his appearance is just a result of bosacius passing down his terrible hair cutting skills and him having a taste in comfortable clothes. at home, he wears a lot more color and no, his favorite isn't black, it's white and green.

usually goes to hang out with bonanus for some quiet time because they are the only two introverts in this family.

he ended up adopting her pet fish.

&& . indarius ( pyro )

she's the second youngest ( since in the chinese voices, she calls bosacius 'big brother' while xiao and menogias call him by his name ) and is the most easily impressionable.

she does have a bit of her own anxieties and fears which grew during her time as a yaksha but she does try to manage them. also the second hype man of the team along with bosacius.

she looks up to bosacius the most and because of that, tends to prank xiao ( though they are rare, with her preferring to sit back and watch the chaos happen instead ) and drives menogias up a wall as well.

xiao is pretty protective of her. i think she might be a bit of a ditz outside of battle, but while fighting, she turns out to be a terrifying warrior. a bit like mitsuri from demon slayer ; cute but will unapologetically kick your ass.

he willpower is actually pretty strong. it took a good while for her karmic debt to actually take a hold on her and even through her slow descent to insanity, she still managed to keep herself together through it all.

is unironically the most put together emotionally in the bunch. she also seems to hate seafood.

she's a little bratty, just the tiniest bit XD. refers to all three of the older yakshas as 'gege'. xiao told her to stop once but she took to pouting until he relented and let her continue calling him that.

her illuminated beast form is a rat but her english title actually references the latin word for 'mouse' so it's pretty confusing.

her chinese title makes the rat connection much clearer, with 'yingda' being the fire rat, a mythological creature that lives in mountains and has fire proof fur. hell, its fur is also what comprises of inuyasha's robes XD.

modern ! indarius is just finishing up with highschool. she's the typical straight 'a' student and a lot of people like her bubbly attitude. is unapologetically spoiled by her older brothers but they do tend to be stern with her when needed.

she's the closest to bonanus, the two of them attanding the same highschool together. they are practically joined at the hip and tends to be the one who takes her responsibility as the 'older, responsible one' very seriously.

in the end, the sad part is the irrefutable fact that bonanus has more brain cells and a sense of rationale than she does.

she and xiao have the same taste in music, mostly because she always used to invade his room while he was studying when they were younger. he ended up giving her his i-pod and earphones to use and that ended up sealing the deal.

menogias gifted her a speaker on her birthday and she plays her music on full volume. since they are also xiao's favorites, he doesn't really care and listens in. they're both music buddies and exchange recommendations.

is a proud member of the martial arts club.

she wasn't too fond of your presence initially and she may have been a little jealous of you. but when the two of you finally found common ground, she starts addressing you as her older sibling as well. both of you conspire against xiao.

she starts hanging out with you as well. if you do have certain subjects you excel at, she asks you to tutor her sometimes. being her unofficial sibling also entails her getting jealous of people you are also friends with so you need to give her some attention as well XD.

&& . bonanus ( hydro )

the youngest, she's also the shy one and all the others are very protective of her. don't bully her, there's a good chance you might be impaled by the og polearm impact.

she's really close to indarius since the pyro yaksha brings out a more open side to her and she really looks up to menogias as a mentor as well ( which was why she took it onto herself to battle him when he was overcome by karmic debt in the end but was taken over herself ).

she and xiao usually hang out when they want some quiet time from their siblings since they are both the only introverts amongst the five of them.

she usually takes to healing her siblings after battle and is the designated healer. a part of her is terrified of loosing them to a demon or their karmic debt, so she does her best to keep it together.

legit terrified of rex lapis but holds a deep loyalty as well. it's similar to being scared of a teacher but respecting them at the same time.

she's more accustomed to melee combat and using her fists, but her older siblings actually managed to alter some of their styles to aid in her training.

collects sea shells from the beach. she has an entire collection of them.

out of all five of them, she's probably the most susceptible to adjusting to new environments. new experiences are scary, sure but she is good at going with the flow.

she and menogias share the same fond exasperation towards her siblings and she tends to be pretty fussy over them as well ; but it's nowhere close to her brother's level. since she's also the embodiment of chill, she is much more open to pranks as well and loves watching bosacius much around and tease xiao.

her illuminated beast form is a little...hard to pin point. her chinese title is 'luojuan' which means 'conch swirl' or 'conch snail' so i'm kind of confused to what it could be referencing ; a literal sea snail or the conch maiden from chinese mythos who was known to be very kind.

modern ! bonanus is in her junior year in highschool, a year behind indarius. a lot of people think she's mysterious and pretty and tried to pursue her, but the moment they saw her with xiao and bosacius, news og her terrifying older brothers led them to leave her be.

she has an aquarium in her room full of pet fish. she wants to pursue marine biology and has a really deep fondness for sea creatures. indarius, however does not share the same fondness and keeps out of her room as a result.

her room is also xiao's go to sometimes because it's really comfy and quiet. whenever things get too loud they retreat there and just talk about things they both like.

tends to pick up after her siblings and keep them in a box in her room. she's jokingly dubbed the 'lost and found' and while it was initially meant to tease her, they end up going to her if they lost something because there's a high chance it's in her box.

she's honestly fine with you. like "oh hey, welcome to the fam" and that's about it. the least dramatic of all of them and honestly xiao is thankful.

until she drops a few bombshells about him. now he's horrified.

refers to you as her older sibling as well. she's very respectful.

sometimes she asks you to take her to the local aquarium when she has projects to do. she's also quite open to using her allowance to buy you your favorite drink as a 'thank you'.

remembers everyone's birthday and you spot your name on her calendar as well one day.

bit of a hopeless romantic ; she loves reading books and watching old dramas.

the yakshas make me sad so i wrote this. some of these are based off of real life stories. indarius i legit my younger sister personified here so i took a lot of creative liberties. if you have different takes on these characters, then that's fine! glaze lily dividers are mine, no stealing.

[yakshas]

This may alter as I learn more about Xiao, but I wanted to post my background for the Adepti and Yakshas. Most of this is taken from one of the books Yakshas: The Vigilant Adepti and ties to cultures the game is based on. Note: I am no expert in theology, so please kindly inform me if something is incorrect.

Adepti — ( plural form; adeptus is singular ) The magical beings all around Liyue seen to be deities or spirits connected to nature. They only seem to exist within Liyue, so far. According to the wiki, in the Chinese version, they are referred to as Xian ( Taoist Immortals ). In Taoism there’s many gods, which may explain how Liyue, being based on China, prays to the Adepti, even if they are not the Archons. ( Similarly, Mondstadt seems to worship just one god, much like Abrahamic religions. )

There is Zhēnjūn “perfected lord” honorifics to their name in the Chinese, which is lower ranking to dìjūn that Rex Lapis uses. Suggests a similar dynamic of many “gods” and one main “Prime” adeptus, which would be Rex Lapis.

They live in a different realm and come to the mortal realm when needed and choose their form. Some may reside longer. Allegedly, mortals cannot handle adeptal energy so it’s best not to be in too much contact.

Adepti are immortal in that they don’t age after a point but they can be killed. Ceremonies are typically held for their passing.

Sigils of Permission protects you from their harm. Can make contracts as well. Pissing off an adeptus will probably ensure bad luck, like only chests full of cabbages!! 

Yakshas — The Yakshas are a group of Adepti. They were contracted by Rex Lapis to protect Liyue during the Archon War. They’re said to have dreadful appearance and warlike temperament. To mortals, the 5 names aren’t really remembered outside of folklore as “The Yakshas”.

The only known Yaksha left is Xiao, once named Alatus. One other, Bosacius, is missing.

Fighting daemons that don’t seam to cease and won’t be remembered for it. Low key stuck in an endless contract.

No one really prays to The Yakshas, understandably, because they’re Dangerous. If they’re around, danger is too.
