Bathing is necessary. It helps to keep the skin of your infants moisturized and adapt to the temperature. It has to be done regularly to maintain hygiene. You have to be careful while you intend to purchase baby bath products and accessories from any shop. You can go for natural products like cleansers, shampoos, oil which will keep the skin of your baby gentle and soft.
Products containing artificial fragrances need to be avoided for the well-being of our tiny ones. Parabens are also harmful to babies. It is highly recommended to check the ingredients before purchasing any form of baby bath accessories.
We have to interact with the babies while you are preparing them for bathing. You can sing a song or read any portion of the story. You should use a soft and soothing voice while you are performing your actions. Their attention will get diverted towards that activity, and you can easily involve them in bathing. Most babies feel scared of water, so it is essential to help them get out of this fear. The parents need to fix one timing for their bathing. This is the perfect time to create a bond with them. Skin-to-skin contact will help to develop the sensory. Besides using any bath time products, we need to look into various kids’ bath accessories like a bathtub.
Tips to remember
We have tried to collect some helpful tips for baby bathing and changing essentials.
The back of the bathtub has to be slip-resistant so that it cannot move while bathing.
You can carry this effortless while traveling.
It is recommended not to use any electronic gadgets or baby toys near the tub while bathing the baby. Maintain strict vigilance is during that time.
Water may get into the nose or mouth of the infants, so parents have to look after them while they are playing with water in the tub.
It is better to check the temperature of the water before putting your kids into any type of bath time accessories.
An empty bathtub can be kept upside down while it is not being used.
It is highly recommended to check the manufacturer`s guidelines while purchasing any baby bath products and accessories.

Could you do one about how Christian would be as a dad to be? Like during pregnancy and when the baby is born please?
i’m guessing you wanted this as a head cannon? if not i hope you don’t mind if i do it like this ❣️
masterlist
when you reveal to him ur pregnant, he’s in utter shock. which makes you feel uneasy, until you feel him bend down to his knees and hug your stomach. his head laying on your abdomen where he talks with the baby. he cries and pours his heart out of him being so happy and grateful for you. “is this actually real? i’m going to be a dad?”
despite his heavy and hectic schedule he still attends the doctors appointment every time. he drives you there, opens the door for you, holds your hand, and even checks in with the receptionist for you. while waiting for the midwife, he talks to you about the nursery, and the different color schemes he likes.
you have to reassure him every time you wince at the cold sensation of the gel, bc he gets so concerned, only wanting for you to be comfortable and safe. he holds your left hand constantly kissing it, as you watch your baby through the ultrasound. “look at the baby! i want to meet them already…”
his brown eyes widen when you get to hear your babies heartbeat for the first time. he shakes his head with excitement, and tells you he wants to hear it all the time. he even goes out to buy a baby heart beat monitor. “christian, seriously?” “can you blame me? i love the sound. it’s our baby’s heartbeat.”
throughout the pregnancy he makes it the priority for you to be relaxing and resting at all times, making you feel completely helpless. you’re so used to moving around and getting different tasks done, so when this happens you just have to bite your tongue. knowing christian is so protective of you and his baby. “don’t you dare move. i’ll be right back.”
you sometimes take trips to different to baby stores to check out the cribs, clothes, beds, carriers, strollers, some bottles, breastfeeding pumps, etc. he’s such a dad already, and researches the best products so the two of you can buy. “i saw this stroller online, it’s a 2-in-1. let’s go check it out.”
when the day of gender reveal comes around, the two of you decided to head north to Hershey, where all his family and yours reunite to celebrate. you asked his sister to surprise you, and she couldn’t back down on the idea, more than ready and excited to do so. especially since you helped her with hers. “OMG I WOULD BE SO HONORED!”
he’s dressed in a white button up, and you with a tight white dress with brown sandals. you kiss his cheek and jaw when you feel his hand nervously draw shapes on your bump. “you okay chris?” “yeah. just nervous that’s all. we finally get put out our misery,” he’d joke.
the long debate of whether it was a boy or girl ends, when you the color blue pops out. you immediately let out a small laughter and began to let out a couple tears of joy, which causes christian to softly kiss you and wipe them away. “we’re having a baby boy! a mini me running around!”
the next few months fly by. the now impatient waiting for your due date to appear. the constant cycles of going to pee, take frequent naps, weird craving, insomnia kicking ur ass. but despite it all, christian is there to guide and help you. “how can you eat that?” he’d say, “oh shut up. it’s this or me being cranky. so you decide…”
one thing you especially love is where he pulls out his guitar and sings to the baby, where they respond by kicking your belly when they hear the small noises. christian also reads to the baby, his head on your bump while reading nursery books. “you see here? this story is about how the piggy went to market.”
the day before labor, you feel the contractions and cramps. taking small step around the house, your hair in a messy clip, sighing and breathing in and out. christian is there to help you practice breathing methods, and timing the contractions before it’s go time. “ready? 1,2,3,4… let it out… there we go… again….”
after ur water breaks, you began to get nervous and filled with anxiety, but he reassures you everything will be okay. “i’m here baby. i’m here for you and our baby boy okay? scream, cry, laugh all you want.”
christian ties you hair up, holds your strong grip hand around his and you walk around the hospital room, he wipes off the sweat and applied cold wraps around your head to ease the heat. he whispers words of encouragement to you, rubbing your back and abdomen when the pain gets bad. “i’m going to change this okay? this will help your back better. just breath baby, im here for you.”
christian gets a bit light headed during labor, especially at the sight of his baby coming out of you. he just nervously laughs it off, holding your hand and encouraging you to push. the relief on your face once you let out that final push and hear your baby cry, ends his misery and wait. “you did it baby! i’m so proud of you…”
when he finally holds his baby, he cries. especially when the baby wraps his hand around christians pinky. feeling the bundle of joy in his arms is the most happiest day of his life, right after meeting you of course. all you can do is tiredly watch as your boys hold each other. “he’s so tiny” he coos, “he has your brows and lips…”
when coming home he helps you inside the house, going back and forth to gets the bags, and baby carrier. he heats up some pads and some water for you to make some coffee or tea. he puts your feet up to reduce the swelling and kisses your head while holding you. the baby sound asleep in your arms after feeding him.
with one hand he opens the nursery door, the baby occupying the other one as christian hold him secured. you follow behind him, wrapping a hand around his tattoed bicep. he looks around proudly at the monsters inc decorated themed room, before whispering, “welcome home theo… daddy and mommy love you so much…”

baby, please - part 14
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You and Santiago go furniture shopping for his apartment. You don't expect to be invited to a Halloween party.
Warnings: Mentions of being sick, so emetophobia warning. Unrequited feelings (👀👀). Some swearing. Teasing between Frankie and Santi, standard bro's. Lightly proofread so definitely some mistakes in here. Word count: 3,616 F!Reader, no use of Y/N.
I'm BAAAAAACK. Sorry it took so long to get this out. Ideally I wanted it out for before Halloween but here we are, nearly at Christmas. My bad!
Also this feels just...a little stale to me. I tried re-writing it and going in a different direction but it just wouldn't fall into place the way I wanted it to. But I think that might be a me problem, and I will probably look at it differently once I'm back into the swing of things.
And I know we've already done a shopping trip with Santiago but I need it for the plot, okay?

He came again with the truck.
Now was the day to really ask about the car, right? You were twenty-four weeks pregnant; he needed a car. There was no room for two babies in this truck. Oh, but you don’t want to ask him, it was rude, it was up to him if he got a car or not. And honestly, the truck was probably the best thing for today, since he’s planning on buying an entire nursery, twice.
No, he needed a car. You’ll gently ask him today.
Santi had finally cleared out his spare room, and he and Frankie had deep cleaned it and gave it a new coat of paint, and it was now ready to be filled with furniture. He had told you that you weren’t allowed to go in the room until the babies were born as there was a small gender thing in there and he didn’t want to spoil it for you.
“I’ve already looked online with Frankie and his wife, and I have an idea on what I want to get,” Santi said to you as you set off from your apartment.
“You could have ordered it online,” you say. “It’ll be easier for you.”
Santi shook his head. “Nah, I like to see the stuff before I buy it. Also, I need your input.”
You nod and hold back your joke about him being an ‘old man’. You weren’t sure why he needed your input, but you weren’t complaining about spending a day with Santi. Your cheeks warm as you think back on the last few weeks. You hadn’t brought up the fact that you were probably (definitely), stupidly in love with him, and you weren’t going to. You were embarrassed enough that you were practically getting off every night to the thought of him.
Damn your hormones.
“How’s your morning sickness?” Santi asked as he focused on the road.
“Oh, uh…nearly gone, actually,” you say. “It’s just once or twice a day now, or if I drink orange juice. Not sure why they’ve decided now to hate orange juice.”
He nods at you before smiling. “Good. I’m glad. I know it was getting you down.”
You bite your lip to stop yourself smiling like a love-struck teenager. “Yeah, it was.”
You doze against the window of his truck until you arrive to Ikea. As you pull into the busy parking lot, you couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and nervousness about the day ahead. It was more than just a furniture shopping trip; it was a glimpse into the future of your babies’ life with Santi, and the thought of that made your heart race.
Santi parked up as close as he could to the entrance and helped you out of the truck (you will mention the car today). You wobble a little as your centre of gravity was starting to work against you, but you steady yourself by holding onto Santi’s arm for a second before letting go, your cheeks burning. You don’t look at him as you both walk into the Ikea, and you grab a cart before Santi takes it off you.
“I have to push a double stroller soon, Santi,” you say, grinning at the look on his face. “I’m able to push a cart.”
With that, you make your way into the large store before he could say anything, Santi soon following you.
A feeling of togetherness washes over you as you pause every now and then and talk to him about your new house, how it’s big enough for you to fill with furniture. The excitement in your eyes was contagious as Santi navigated you both through the maze of furniture displays, joining in with how the kids would be able to play in the back yard with all the space you’ll have. Your heart swells at the image.
You’d been imagining two boys, with your eyes and Santiago’s hair. Tanned skin and your nose, and you could see him taking them to baseball games in those jerseys he bought when you both went shopping.
But sometimes you saw two girls, taking after their father in everything. Down to the curly hair and dark eyes and dressed in those Metallica shirts he was still fawning over. He’d probably get them all matching caps.
“I could get them a swing set,” you say. “I loved the swing set at my grandma’s house.”
“Yeah, corazón, I think they would like that.”
“And a pool, maybe. Not a big one, but a decent sized one.”
“You can do all’a that now with your house,” Santi says as you both go deeper in the Ikea. Eventually, he does take the cart from you, and you let him with no complaints.
The first stop should have been the nursery section, but you stop in the toy section. You know, you know, you have bought enough toys for your kids, and Gabrielle has donated enough to you too. But you ‘don’t have this bear,’ or ‘that dinosaur,’ and you throw them in the cart. You grin at Santi as he shakes his head at you, smiling fondly. After a few more additions to the cart (where Santi had to physically pull you away), you finally make it to the nursery section.
As you walked through carefully arranged cribs, changing tables, and adorable baby bedding sets, Santi's enthusiasm was evident. It was obvious he had done his research, and you watched him with probably heart eyes as he discussed the pros and cons of different options with you, valuing your opinion on every detail whenever he asked you.
"I was thinking something like this crib," he said, pointing to a sleek, white crib with some wooden accents and a drawer underneath. "What do you think? Is it too minimalist?"
You shrug, bending to look at the label, checking out the dimensions. “It looks good. But yeah, it looks a little plain. Does it match the nursery at your place?”
“It does,” he says. He looked around. “But everything does, really. Everything’s so…white.”
You let out a giggle as you look around too. “There is a lot of white. I suppose it’s gender neutral.”
“Suppose I could get some sheets to bring in some colour,” Santi mumbled. He looks at you with a grin. “It is a nice crib.”
“And it turns into a toddler bed for when the time comes,” you say, nodding at the product information.
“It has a matching chest of drawers,” said Santi, taking a few steps away from you and to the rest of the furniture. “And changing unit.”
“Ooh,” you say, following him quickly and taking a look. “Oh, I like the chest of drawers.”
“Yeah? Should I get them then?” Santi asked you.
“It’s up to you, Santi, these will be in your apartment, not mine. If you like them and you think they’ll go well in the room, then you should get them.”
You back and forth with him over other pieces of furniture, like whether he should get a rug (“I think it’ll bring the room together nicely.”), or a chair in their room for feeds (“It would make it easier but I’ll probably end up on the couch anyway.”), and after a while, the room started taking shape in your mind as Santiago put more things in the cart. From what you could gather, the room had a nice sage green somewhere, and Santi had chosen a blend of soft pastels and natural wood tones; you had the sneaky suspicion it may be jungle themed, based off of some of the rugs he was looking at.
You almost laughed. You could take Santiago out of the jungle, but you couldn’t take the jungle out of Santiago.
As you strolled through Ikea, you couldn't help but sneak occasional glances at Santi, admiring his dedication to making the space – his space – absolutely perfect for your babies. The way he was talking about the future with them with so such excitement and care warmed your heart, and you couldn't ignore the feelings growing inside of you. You were in love with this man.
Foolishly and despairingly in love.
“Want some lunch after this?” Santiago asked you an hour later, as you strolled through the warehouse, picking up the flat packed boxes of furniture that he’d chosen.
You nodded. “Yeah, I could eat.”
“What’re you craving?” Santi asked, grunting as he pushed another flatpack box onto the cart.
“Nothing in particular,” you say, shrugging nonchalantly as your eyes roamed over him. “I’ll have whatever you want to have.”
“Italian? I could go for a pizza.”
You nod, trying not to obviously stare and get distracted by the way the muscles in his arms move as he loads up the cart. “Sure.”
“We can stop by my place first, get this stuff to my apartment.”
You give him a look, raising your eyebrows pointedly at him. His knees. “Santi…”
He was already shaking his head. “I’ve already asked Frankie to stop by, he’s gonna help out.”
Your breath hitched at the thought of meeting Frankie. You don’t know why you suddenly felt so nervous, you were going to have to meet him sooner or later; you were pretty sure Santi was going to ask if he could make Frankie Godfather of the babies (of course you’d say yes, why wouldn’t you?).
“You don’t need to be nervous,” Santi said, chuckling, shaking his head lightly.
“I’m not nervous,” you immediately say, lying through your teeth. And it’s obvious too.
“Your face says otherwise,” Santi replies, grunting as he places the last flatpack on the cart. You internally curse yourself; you should have gotten a second one. “He doesn’t bite. He’s soft.”
“Nothing wrong with being soft,” you quip back, but Santi doesn’t reply. He just pulls the cart out of your reach, and you make your way to the check out.
After paying (you wince at the price – you offer to pay half, but Santi downright refuses) you make your way back to his truck, where an employee (practically a kid, he looked no older than nineteen, but he was built like a tank) had offered to help load. You, again, attempted not to stare at Santi as you tried not to feel so useless, but every time you reached for a box, even just a small one, Santi quickly shot you down.
“You’re carrying twins, you will hurt yourself.”
“I’m pregnant, not elderly!”
Your protesting falls on deaf ears, and Santi profusely thanks the employee for the help and hands the kid a tip. Santi helps you climb into the truck before making his way back to the driver’s side, and sends a quick text to Frankie, you assume telling him that you were on the way back to Santiago’s place.
“Want to get Carmelo’s?” Santi asked as he pulled out of the parking space.
You pull a face. “Their pizzas are greasy.”
Santi laughed as he looked in his mirrors and drove out of the lot. “That’s what makes them great.”
“Yeah, ‘great’ at giving you heart disease.”
“Okay, how about Solorzano's?”
You go quiet and think about it, before nodding. You’d ordered in with them before, and their garlic knots were to die for. Your mouth practically started watering at the thought of them. Maybe you don’t need a pizza, maybe you could just order appetisers, like the macaroni and cheese wedges, the mozzarella sticks, oh, maybe their chicken wings.
Yep, Solorzano's was good.
“Yeah, that’s fine, let’s do that,” you say.
You arrive back at Santi’s after telling him all about the food you were going to get, him laughing and telling you that you were hardcore ‘playing into the pregnant lady trope’. You pretended to take offence, telling him fact that you were just appreciating good food, that he suggested, whether you were pregnant or not.
“All right, fair,” he’d said, amused.
You try not to fawn at his laugh, but you couldn’t help it. You sighed, hopefully thinking Santi took it that you were happy that he agreed with you over your food choices.
You soon pull up to his apartment and park in his designated spot, only for a dark blue car to pull up minutes after you arrived. Your eyes widen a little as you see the infamous Francisco Morales climb out of his car and approach you both from his place parked behind Santi. He was shorter than he looked in the video, but still taller than Santi. His dark, tousled hair was hidden behind a cap, and it gave him a rugged charm, and there's something about the lines on his face that makes him look like he's seen it all but is still totally approachable. You catch a glimpse of some scars on his tanned arms, on show as the sleeves of his dark shirt were pushed up to his elbows, and it only added to the sense that this guy has some serious stories to share.
“Hey, Pope!”
“How’s it going, Fish?” Santi asked, giving Frankie a smile as they hug, patting each other on the back in a way that you would expect brothers to do. The nicknames confused you; Santi had never referred to himself as ‘Pope’, nor Frankie as ‘Fish’. “Could have tidied yourself up a bit.” Santi jokes, motioning to Frankie’s cap and old battered jacket.
“I’m doing you a favour, hermano, watch your mouth. Sarah asked me to drop this off for you too,” Frankie said, holding up a paper bag before looking at you and pointing at you with a good-natured expression on his face. “You are not to look in that bag, because it is a surprise.”
Your eyes widened for a fraction before you nodded. “Okay, yeah...noted.”
“Are you going to introduce us, teo, or did the news of twins and the financial recovery make you forget basic manners and social introductions?”
Santi gave Frankie the bird before introducing you both.
“It’s nice to meet you,” you say, shaking his hand as he offered it to you.
“It’s nice to put a face to the name,” Frankie says, letting go of your hand and taking a look at the bed of the truck, full of the furniture Santi had bought. He nodded towards it as he looked at Santi. “What did you get?”
“Everything, it seems,” you joke.
Frankie gave you a grin before turning back to Santi. “When are you gonna get a car, feo? Can’t fit car seats in this thing.”
You almost laughed in relief. Now you didn’t have to ask and feel like you were intruding.
“I’m working on it, tu idiota,” Santi replied, opening the bed of the truck. “Now help me with these boxes, you can’t expect me and my knees to do all the hard work. Don’t even think about it.”
You hold your hands up in surrender at Santi’s firm gaze, landing on you as you had reached for a box.
Santi hands you his keys and you go up to his apartment to unlock the door, Santi and Frankie following you up moments later, carrying boxes up with them, huffing and puffing together. You grin as you hear Santi grumble that they ‘felt heavier than they did at Ikea’, and you make your way down to get some of the lighter things. You grab the rug that Santi chose, along with the soft toys you’d picked out.
You eye the paper bag Frankie bought, that was sat in the bed of the truck, the curiosity to take a peek inside itching at your fingertips. You look around quickly before looking at the bag before you finally shake your head. Frankie said it was a surprise, something Santi might have organised, so you shouldn’t. You should leave it alone.
“You better not look in that.”
You smirk before looking at Santi, who was giving you an amused look. “I was thinking about it. But I won’t.”
Santi rolled his eyes in amusement as he and Frankie both grab another box. You grab one last toy before you follow them up the stairs and into Santi’s living room, placing the stuff on the couch. You go back to the truck, taking the last of the small things before sitting back and watching the two men bring back the last of the flatpack boxes. Soon, Santi’s living room was representing the Ikea warehouse with how many boxes were littered around everywhere. You spotted the paper bag sitting on the small dining room table by the open plan kitchen.
Again, you choose to let it go.
You step outside, closing and locking the apartment. You see Santi and Frankie chatting by the truck, the bed now closed, and you make your way over. You hear Santi thanking Frankie for the help with the furniture.
“Don’t thank me yet, you still need help putting that shit together,” Frankie replied. “You’ll probably need all the guys for that.”
Santi snorted. “Would love to see Benny try to put together a crib...or two.”
“Well, he put Sofía’s together,” Frankie said.
Santi went quiet at that, and the two stared at each other. You weren’t sure what was happening, but it was as though they were having a private conversation with each other, without having to say anything. You go quiet, letting them have their telepathic conversation, until you cleared your throat, breaking the awkward silence. “Would you like to join us for lunch, Frankie?”
After a few more moments, Frankie turns from Santi and gives you a small smile. “I would love to, but it’s Sofía’s birthday next month, and Sarah’s got me running around trying to get the stuff for it and she has me planning this Halloween party in a couple of days.”
“The guys say they’re still going for Halloween?” Santi asked, crossing his arms over his chest. It was as if his and Frankie’s interaction hadn’t happened. You put a pin in it for now.
“Benny said he’s still coming, Ironhead’s still unsure, since Claire’s putting a bit of pressure on him to make some solid decisions on the wedding.” Frankie chuckled before looking at you. “You should come,” he suddenly said to you. “I know it’s a bit last minute and it’s mostly for kids, but it should be fun.”
Your brain stops for a moment, not realising Frankie was suddenly talking to you. You blink at him for a moment before shaking your head. “Oh! Uh, yeah, I’ll definitely think about it. I was gonna go with my friend and her kids trick or treating – “
Frankie cuts you off with a wave of his hand. “Bring them along, seriously. Sarah loves meeting new people, she’s been talking my ear off about when Pope was finally going to introduce you to everyone.”
“Frankie,” Santi muttered firmly, a light blush coming to his cheeks, causing you to giggle.
You nod at Frankie. “Didn’t realise I was such an interesting topic.”
“Are you kidding? You managed to get Santiago Garcia to slow down and think about his future for once,” Frankie said, ignoring Santi’s very obvious glare.
You grin. “I’ll talk to my friend, see if she wants to join.”
“Great. You’re coming though, right hermano?”
“Wouldn’t miss it,” Santi replied. “Can’t disappoint Sofía.”
You feel your chest warm and your heart swell with the way he looks as he talks about his niece, how he was so enamoured with her. You wonder how he would talk about your kids and how he would act with them. You find your eyes quickly swell with years, and you look away from the two men quickly, wiping at them.
Damn hormones.
“Great, just let me know plans, yeah?” Frankie said, nodding at you both. “No pressure, though, if you can’t make it.”
You nod. “No worries, I'll let you know. Or I’ll get Santi to tell you, anyway.”
“Again, it was nice to finally meet you,” Frankie said, shaking your hand again. “I’ll text you later, hermano.”
“See ya, Fish,” Santi replied, giving Frankie a quick hug before the two of you watch him leave. You both wave as he drives away.
“So,” you say after a few moments, handing Santi’s keys back over to him. “What’s with the nicknames?”
“Our call signs,” Santi said, taking the keys. “Just stuck afterwards.”
“Oh, right. Why is yours Pope?”
Santi was silent for a moment before he pulled a face, shaking his head. “It doesn’t matter, I think it was something stupid Benny said.”
You don’t believe him, but you won’t push. He was always a little closed off about his days in the army. “Okay. So, ready for lunch?”
“Sure...yeah,” he answers, before opening the truck door for you. He hesitates again for a moment as you turn to climb in, before he blurts out, “You don’t have to come to the party.”
You look at Santi, seeing his unsure face looking at you. “Why?”
“Don’t want you to feel obligated,” he says.
You study him for a moment, noticing his stance. He seemed a little out of sorts, nervous almost. You give him a reassuring look. “I want to go. It’ll be fun.” Then you give him a teasing smirk. “And besides, I’d miss out on hearing all the embarrassing stories about you from your friends! No way am I missing this.”
You see his shoulders relax a little at your words before he rolls his eyes. “Funny. Get in the truck.”
“You know, if you got a car, I wouldn’t struggle so much getting in and out of this thing.”
“I fucking knew the truck bothered you.”

Had an idea for Obey Me fluff. Due to an accident, a spell from Solomon turns M/C into a baby (under 3). How would the brothers react? I imagine that the pacts are still in place, and she still likes everyone so no drama over scared baby with no memory. And, maybe Solomon could hint at the end that it was actually done on purpose so the demons could have a taste of what it would be like when M/C has their own children.
Demon bros + Solomon reacting to mc turning into a baby !
__________________________________________
LUCIFER
threatens to string solomon upside down from the ceiling but then you start crying, so he picks you up and rubs your back until you fall asleep
is absolutely terrified that he has to look after a baby, let alone baby you, so he keeps you in his office in a little crib he bought just for you, while he works on his work
always looks over at you every 5 minutes to make sure you didn’t magically disappear or something
will not hesitate to take away your toys if you misbehave, but if you start crying he’ll give it back and hold you in his arms till you fall asleep
gives lil kisses on the nose <3
MAMMON
immediately picks you out of solomon’s arms when he sees you, and tells him to stay the hell away from you.
will buy you every toy he deems remotely entertaining.
holds you close to his chest a lot and listens to your breathing.
holds your little hands and kisses them.
LEVIATHAN
when he sees you he’s immediately reminded of the anime that-one-time-my-crush-turned-into-a-baby-and-I-had-to-take-care-of-them and starts freaking out
plays iPad kid games with you in his room, and watches anime with you while your seated in his lap
will let you play with his ruri-chan figurines and thinks it’s very cute that you like them
whenever he looks at you he smiles
BELPHIE
Is incredibly confused as to how this occurred, but adjusts pretty quickly
he sees this as a huge advantage. why ? what do babies do? sleep. what does belphie do? sleep. honestly he sleeps as much as a baby does, so he is incredibly thrilled to have a napping buddy !
belphie tends to rock you in his arms until you fall asleep, when he’ll lay you gently in his lap and softly caresses your forehead
SATAN
at first he thinks of ways to kill solomon but honestly, you look so adorable! so he decides to come up with a plan to kill solomon later.
immediately puts you in a cat onesie.
goes out to buy baby books with you in a stroller, and people comment on how cute of a baby you are which causes him to blush but also fills his heart with adoration and love for you
and lays you in his lap and reads to you
will not let mammon anywhere near you because Satan is convinced mammon will drop you
ASMODEUS
screams in joy as soon as he sees you. he just can’t get over how adorable you look!!
dresses you up in the cutest baby clothes, and takes pictures of you in them.
starts a whole fashion line just for babies because of you.
brings you along shopping and buys you any toy in sight.
gives you lots and lots forehead kisses and twirls you around <3
BEELZEBUB
baby mc is just so cute and adorable Beel could just eat you up !
literally.
when he first saw you he tried to eat you, all of his brothers had to hold him back from you, but then you started crying and realized that the baby was you he felt bad
in an effort to make it up to you he buys all the baby food he sees online.
always wipes off the food off your face and cleans up after you’ve made a mess.
SOLOMON
the one who “accidentally” turned you into a baby
thought it would be interesting to see you as an adorable baby, and how entertaining it would be to see the demon bros trying to parent you
is honestly impressed with how well the demon bros handled you, leaving him wondering what they would be like with kids they had with you…

My BABY love Who: Rodrigo and Jade @jadeclark What: Shopping for friend's baby gift, these two have an important talk Where: Target When: November, 2023. A/N: My apologies. I had drafted this a million years and realized recently i never posted it!! Enjoy!
JADE
Jade tugged a shopping cart free as she and Rodrigo entered Target and prepared to walk directly towards all of the baby supplies. On the way to the multiple aisles, she looked at her phone where a list of possible items to purchase sat. She softly hummed a jazz tun to herself, stuck in her head from hers and Rodrigo's date night the previous night. While looking at the list of items for the dozenth time, she paused her humming to share with her boyfriend, "I asked a few people on my staff what sorts of things would be the most helpful to guy Aera and Fletcher. Just about everyone said diapers, wipes, blankets, and onesie undershirts. Those should be easy enough to find, but I added a few more things that were mentioned and some things that I looked up online too. And maybe we can get them one big item? Like a stroller or baby swing? Or maybe one of those easy portable playpens in case Aera or Fletcher are taking the baby with them somewhere?"
RODRIGO
Rodrigo smiled as he listened to his girlfriend hum. It was peaceful to him. He walked beside Jade, looking around Target, making mental notes of some other things he may pick up for their house but also adding gift ideas to the top of his list. This was very important to Aera and Fletcher- two of the most important people in his life. He wanted to do right by them. As Jade listed the items she had in mind, he couldn't help but chuckle. "I say we go on a shopping spree", and then he nudged her gently with a grin plastered against his lips. "I like the diapers idea. We should get them every size or something. Oh! The portable play pen sounds great. I feel like the stroller and baby swing may be given by some family members? What do you thinks? He saw a cute little teddy bear and held it up in front of Jade. "Look at this guy. I think he's perfect."
JADE
Jade smiled, "It's probably inevitable. Shopping for a new baby is pretty fun, isn't it?" She thought about the few baby showers she had been invited to and how hard it was sometimes to limit herself on the gifts. She gave him a rueful smile, "But don't both Aera and Fletcher consider you family? So a gift like that would be appropriate. But we could certainly buy them a lot of diapers and look for a nice play pen and some gender neutral clothes." While Jade was typically modest about her PDA, she took a little risk and reached over to playfully pinch Rodrigo's butt with a grin. "I like it. And the teddy bear's cute too."
RODRIGO
"Yeah, it's nice." Rodrigo offered her a smile and considered her words. She was right. Aera was like a sister and Fletcher was his best friend. "Well, you got me there. We can do the play pen and one of the big gifts that haven't been purchased as well. See? Always the sensible one." He chuckled at the pinch, looking over to Jade with a smirk. "Don't worry, I'll get you." Rodrigo continued walking beside Jade. He stole a few glances, taking in her excitement and wondering if it was shopping for Aera and Fletcher that had her this giddy or shopping for baby items in general. The latter made him think about the subject he often tried NOT to hink about. "You like this, huh? The baby shopping?"
JADE
"Thank you, honey," Jade replied with another soft smile when Rodrigo agreed to them getting a second big gift for Aera and Fletcher along with the play pen. She flitted away after pinching her boyfriend's ass while looking to his face to catch his reaction and when she heard him, she giggled a little. "I hope so," she quipped back with a grin and then continued pushing the red shopping cart. While approaching the floor models of play pens, she thought about what her staff advised and considered it, looking from one model to the next. But she heard Rodrigo's question and turned to gaze up at him. "You know? I do. I haven't really done a lot of shopping like this, outside of staff members who've had babies, and the baby showers I've recently been invited to this past year. I've seen cute baby clothes before, in passing when I've gone shopping but it's different when I'm intentionally looking. What about you? Do you enjoy shopping for baby items?"
RODRIGO
Rodrigo tossed the teddy bear into the cart, a smirk gracing his face the entire time. Jade's playful side was just one of his favorites. He looked around, taking in the aisles of baby items thinking about how great parents his friends were going to be. He listened to Jade's response to his question, nodding and smiling softly as she did. When the question was turned on him, he wasn't quite sure what to answer at first. The thought of having children terrified him. Taking care of birth control on his end was to lessen the stress on his partners but also because "accidents" scared the living crap out of him however, being with Jade made things pleasantly complicated. He knew his relationship with her would be forever and with that, the conversation of forming a family was inevitable. He did wonder (and often) where she stood so hearing how much she enjoyed shopping for baby things gave him a little more clarity. "I do. I mean, how can you not, right? Lots of cute little things." He looked up at her. "You know, we never really talked about it. I mean, we've talked about just everything else." They have a house together, for Godsakes. "Do you want children?"
JADE
Jade chuckled at the plush bear being lobbed into the cart and then continued looking at the floor model play pens. Some were exactly that: play pens with mesh walls and easy assembly. Others had a top portion that was half infant resting space, half changing station. One looked entirely complex in appearance and ridiculous in Jade's eyes. "Those are my thoughts exactly," agreed Jade as she listened to Rodrigo’s response. She was eyeing one of the playpens with a changing table on top when she heard Rodrigo speak up again. She listened but it wasn't until his question hit her ears that she stilled and then turned to face him and look up at his face. "I do. I wasn't entirely sure before. Just…because of my past and how incapable I felt because of…well, largely because of my mother and how much she affected me. And then with her still having been in my life, the idea of bringing a child of my own into the picture seemed like cruelty. I couldn't wilfully subject a child to her toxicity and abuse. But with the restraining order being effective and me working through some of my issues in therapy, and seeing how loving, caring and passionate you are about your students…" Jade felt like she was ruling so she trailed off and gently shrugged. 'I love you and the life we've been building together. With you, a family that includes children is something I feel like I could want, and do someday." She took her hand off of the cart and tenderly cuffed it to one of Rodrigo's forearms. "Has this been on your mind for a while or was the shopping trip today just making you curious?"
RODRIGO
Rodrigo listened in silence but intently. This was an important topic and he would never want to jeopardize his relationship with Jade. But what did that mean exactly? Up until now, this was the conversation he hoped he'd end up avoiding forever but that's probably because up until now, he didn't think it was in the stars for him to find someone amazing, fall in love, have them fall in love with him , buy a house, share everything together and now have the dreaded talk. Never in a million years did he think he would be in this situation. Rodrigo had gotten comfortable with assuming he'd never have to form a family with anyone and he was even more comfortable in thinking it would be for the best. What could he possibly offer a child of his own? He didn't have the best people to look up to. And as these thoughts circled in his mind, he managed to listen and hang on to every word Jade was telling him even the ones about how he'd probably be a great dad because of how he was with his students. It temporarily brought him back to his talk with Raj and how he had said something similar. When his girlfriend brought him back to reality with her hand against his forearms, he took a deep breath and closed his eyes. "The first part. A long while. I'm talking about months now and usually thinking about having children feels like I'm drowning. But lately I can't help but wonder what they'd look like. If they'd have your eyes. Would they love to read like us? But I also end up wondering if I would be any good at it? I can't imaging a world where I disappoint you and our child…I--I'm working through it in therapy but it's a thought and again, last year, I would have laughed at the thought of even thinking about kids because of my own issues. Now, I'm considering it but I'm terrified. I don't have a good dad…."
JADE
Jade took in Rodrigo's unspoken reactions as she shared her response to his question. And when she checked with him on what brought this on for him, she listened fully and carefully to him. It saddened her a little that she had no idea he'd felt this way before and never would have guessed it. But this wasn't about her and she knew as much as she absorbed his words. She held both hands to each of his forearms now and kept her eyes on his as she spoke. "Rodrigo, I… I'm glad you're working through it in therapy but I'm also relieved that you're telling me. You and I both grew up having at least one undeniably terrible parent. And the truth is, I think that we're always going to have some degree of fear that we might repeat their bad parenting in some capacity--disappointing a child of ours, or treating them in some way that even marginally resembles how our terrible parent treated us." She moved her hands up to cup his cheeks. "But I also think we're lucky to have each other and the relationship we have. We're both so open with each other. We have something real, honest and good. And not to diminish how wonderful Emiliana is, but it's so much more than what either of us was raised with. I can't imagine we wouldn't expand that to a family of our own. Not only do we have each other, but we have family and clos friends who love, care and support us. I know that would extend to any child or children we might have, and their love would include holding us accountable and calling us on our shit if we're doing something wrong or concerning."
Jade lightly stroked her thumbs along his cheeks and then slid her hands to his shoulders. "Through your love and our relationship, the friendships I've grown over the past year, and my therapy I've been realizing that me having a bad mom doesn't mean I'd be one. I wholeheartedly believe that's true of you and how you would be as a father."
RODRIGO
Jade was always so comforting to Rodrigo. He was sure she'd talk him off the ledge every single time and he'd hopefully do the same for her. She was soft spoken and kind and understanding and there were many times he felt like he didn't deserve that until now. Rodrigo's mind went back to therapy and how he had been advised to give himself and his new relationship grace. He was told that while others might think they rushed things, the pace was perfect for the two of them. They had an understanding that some people struggle for ages to achieve. Having that and being able to speak about his fears surrounding potential fatherhood, was priceless. He listened, eyes on hers, a soft smile appearing on his face. "Thank you. And you know I feel the same about you. I think you'll be an amazing mother. I didn't even consider it until I met you and I think that just adds to the excitement and the nerves. All these new things I never thought about or thought would happen until I met you. It's refreshing and terrifying", Rodrigo admitted with a gentle laugh. "Do you--should we maybe do some therapy sessions together? since we've both been tainted by our oh so wonderful parents?" He whispered in the empty aisle. "I want to do what it takes to provide for you and our future children. Erase the mistakes our parents made. You know?"
JADE
Seeing the smile appear on Rodrigo's face made Jade's expression relax a bit more and a gentle smile form on her own lips. She took a deep breath and calmly let it out while telling him, "I hope I will be someday. I'd like to be a good mom someday." Her hands stayed on his broad shoulders and she kept looking up at her boyfriend while listening to him. "I know what you mean, about it being refreshing and terrifying at the same time." She listened further when his voice dropped to a whisper and at his suggestion that they go to therapy together, Jade thought about it for a moment and then nodded. "I think that would be good. And we don't have to rush it either. I know it's not like we're having a baby tomorrow, but before we start trying to have our own family, therapy together would be good. I've heard of people doing that when engaged too so, maybe we can plan for it when we get to that point?"
RODRIGO
Rodrigo looked into Jade's eyes as she spoke to her and immediately melted into her brown hues. It was difficult not to and he knew that everything would be okay. It was a huge leap for him, one he never thought he'd budge in but there was something about Jade that felt like forever. Hearing her mention they could revisit couple's therapy when they get to the point of an engagement brought on that familiar feeling again. The same one that he felt when they got their place together, the same one he got when spoke to Raj and asked him to help him pick out a ring for Jade, the same one at the boo bash. Rodrigo was smitten and it was okay. he was going to marry the hell out of Jade. Once again, he pressed a soft kiss against her forehead and then wrapped his arms around her. "I love you so much."
JADE
Jade offered Rodrigo a gentle smile as she gazed up at him and waited for his response. She knew that they had packed a lot of their relationship together in the less-than-a-year's time that they'd been together but Jade regretted none of it. Every step of the way with Rodrigo felt and continued to feel right. She shut her eyes when he bent his head to kiss her forehead, and then when his arms came around her, she returned that gesture with her slender limbs circling his middle. "I love you too. My Rodrigo." She squeezed him a little bit tighter after that and then released him enough for her to look up at his face again. "Should we hurry up and get out of here before we end up needing one of those flat bed carts?"
RODRIGO
At her response, Rodrigo chuckled and looked back at their cart. So they went a little overboard. Fletcher and Aera deserved it as far as he was concerned. "Ah yeah, let's get out of here before I need to do more OT." He laughed and let Jade take the cart so that he could wrap his arms around her waist and walk with her. IT was incredibly cheesy but Rodrigo was so happy that she was his. He kissed her hair before releasing her and then walked beside her towards the register. "Oh wait! Let me just get another box of diapers!" He ran back quickly and picked up a box, stared at the long aisle of baby items, and drew in a deep breath before his lips curled into a small mile. Rodrigo's eyes then zeroed in on a pair of baby sock booties and he took them off the perch, holding them close to his chest. He'd pay for these himself. They wouldn't be for Aera and Fletcher's child. These booties would be for a future bundle of joy.

baby shopping.....,..,
Alastor's doctor, upon learning that his circle of emotional support consisted of the father-to-be and not much else, recommended an online forum where mothers-to-be could talk to each other about their issues, and insisted that Alastor at least go check it out.
So he quietly made an account and started lurking amongst the "due in January" crowd.
He's never related less to any conversations he's ever eavesdropped on.
Endless anxiety, complaints, and insecurity over their weight gain. Women who commiserate with each other about their terrible, unsupportive, disinterested husbands, rather than organize a rebellion. (It's all women, as far as he can tell—he shouldn't be surprised by that.) Either that or, on the other hand, succubi lamenting their cambion fetus's human parentage, as if their own bodies spontaneously generated an entire baby from the application of sperm and it's an embarrassing shame that the sperm had to have come from a real person. Frantic, focused planning for the future—daycare, feeding, maternity leave, nursery setups, hospital bags. Gushing excitement over the child they'll have once the pregnancy is over and done with; he spends a lot of time reading those threads, trying to absorb their enthusiasm via osmosis.
The only conversations he relates to are the griping about the symptoms.
One of the topics he keeps seeing is baby showers—is it gauche to host your own if no one's offered, when are yours scheduled, what tactics are you deploying to try to corral wayward giftgivers into buying the things you actually want off of your registry instead of a mountain of clothing that doesn't fit your aesthetic, what did you get at yours and what would you have done differently...
It's terrifying to realize some people have already had their baby showers. Alastor still doesn't know if he and his alternate are going to have one. They don't even have a registry yet. They've looked at some recommended checklists and puzzled over why some items made the "needs" list instead of the "optional" list (why was a stroller a "need"? what's wrong with carrying the baby around?) and haven't even finished deciding what's on their checklist yet, much less figuring out which product they want for each item on the list, much less set up an actual registry. Did registries even exist a century ago? In department stores, maybe? Like Macy's? He doesn't know, he didn't have a baby a century ago.
He feels so behind.
With a burst of adrenaline and determination, he propels himself out of his apartment and to the closest open baby goods store his phone can find. He can't make any decisions without Cal, but by God he's got at least half of a checklist that he can fill out, and he can skip all the items they put question marks by, instead focusing on things like cribs and baby carriers he knows they need.
Less than five minutes into the store his adrenaline runs out. It's drained away by the effort of trying to match what he sees on the shelves with what he already know they need without getting distracted by the endless tiny clothing and niche furniture and rubber horn caps and diaper management solutions (are they getting cloth or disposable diapers?) and bright white plastic medical equipment and memory books and big colorful toys. It's not long before he's meandering aimlessly, gaze drifting between the countless shelves of products and the half-finished registry checklist in his hands.
An employee comes up to him, and—of all things—asks whether he needs any help. He stares at her, face heating up with humiliation.
He's so mortified at the thought of how he must look—vague and confused and lost, just a foggy-minded pregnant twit, nothing like the sharp-edged razor-witted Radio Demon—that he immediately turns on his hoof and leaves the store.

Also I can see the missus and him forgetting to get a stroller. They are overwhelmed with his tour/just the fact they’re having a baby. They both are like “I feel like we’re forgetting something” and one night the missus is like “oh my god we don’t have a stroller” they then get completely overwhelmed by the thousands of strollers online. “Babe, how many wheels do we need?” “Just a park or a jogging stroller” “I don’t know what goes with the car seat we have” “I’ll just ask Mitch and Sarah what they have, this is too much”
STOP THIS IS SO FUNNY 😂 Them panic buying a stroller and being overwhelmed by the billions of choices. "I'll just ask Mitch and Sarah what they have," REAL that's 100% what they settle on doing.

BALL & THE BUTCHERS!
The Butchers & Meat Markets of the Lucyverse
Tumblr media
Before supermarkets and online ordering, consumers visited local buthers and meat markets to shop.  Here’s a look at the butchers of the Lucyverse!
Tumblr media
Lucille Ball had a huge imagination when she was a child in Jamestown NY. In order to attempt to control her daughter, her mother made a deal with the local butcher for Lucy to run up and down the street between his shop and their home. It was in his butcher shop that Lucille first made her entertainment debut. In her autobiography, Ball shares details of her first performance on the butcher's counter. Lucy loved to dance and twirl for them, as well as giving her rendition of a jumping frog. She would stick her tongue out and croak. Customers would give her some pennies or a sweet treat to show their appreciation.
Tumblr media
In 1942 Lucille Ball was the subject of a newspaper article titled “Conversation in the Kitchen” by Susan Thrift. The article details how the wartime homemaker can save money and conserve resources.
“If you have a freezing unit in your refrigerator, you can buy meat for the week. You’ve probably learned that you can depend much on a reliable butcher and standard brands. For the rest, remember what your mother taught you about the purchase of meat:”
Tumblr media
“Valentine’s Day” (1949)
Katie the Maid (Ruth Perrot), is sweet on Mr. Dabney the butcher (Hans Conried), and Liz (Lucille Ball) offers to help. But when Liz's Valentine to her favorite husband gets switched with her check to pay the butcher's bill, Mr. Dabney gets the wrong idea.
Katie says she has a written a Valentine poem for Mr. Dabney the butcher. Liz calls him “old heavy thumbs”.
KATIE: “Some people may have better beef, but his liver’s good. And no one has oxtails and pig’s feet like him!”
Tumblr media
Mr. Dabney reads the Valentine aloud:
“If you’ll be mine, then I’ll be thyne. You set my heart a-quiver. Say you’ll be my Valentine, And send two pounds of liver.”
Tumblr media
Hans Conreid also played Mr. Dabney the butcher in “Overweight” (1949) where a dieting weigh-in is held at his butcher shop.
Tumblr media
Mr. Dabney returns in “Reminiscing” (1949), a re-dramatization of “Valentine’s Day” as part of a “My Favorite Husband” retrospective episode.
Tumblr media
When the "Valentine’s Day” script was made for television in 1952 in “Lucy Plays Cupid”, Mr. Dabney the butcher, played by Hans Conried, became Mr. Ritter, a grocer, played by Edward Everett Horton.
Tumblr media
“The Freezer” (1952)
Hoping to save money, Lucy and Ethel purchases a walk-in freezer from Ethel’s Uncle Oscar, a butcher.  When Lucy hears Ethel say that he has a “big cold chest,” Lucy drily replies, “Why don’t you knit him a sweater?”
Tumblr media
After buying the freezer, they buy the meat to fill it at 69 cents a pound. Lucy over-orders two sides of beef from Johnson’s Meat Packing, a wholesale butcher. Lucy tells Ricky that bacon costs 75 cents a pound. The girls end up ordering 700 pounds of meat for a total of $483!  Lucy immediately demands they take it back.
DELIVERY MAN: “Look, ladies, even if you defrosted it, pasted it back together and taught it to walk, I couldn’t take it back!”
Tumblr media
To shift some of the meat, Lucy and other stake out the local butcher shop, stashing the meat in a baby stroller.
LUCY (to a customer): “Are you interested in some high-class beef? Are you tired of paying high prices? Do you want a bargain? Tell you what I'm gonna do. I got sirloin, tenderloin T-bone, rump, pot roast, chuck roast, oxtail stump.”
Tumblr media
Fred Aldrich plays the butcher who is none too happy about Lucy and Ethel poaching his customers.
Tumblr media
A December 1952 Philip Morris cartoon ad starts with the butcher delivering a side of beef to Lucy and Ethel, inspired by “The Freezer”.
Tumblr media
“Together for Christmas” (1962)
The holiday episode opens with Lucy and Viv at the butcher shop, where Ernie the butcher (Joe Mell) is wrapping up Lucy’s Christmas turkey, even though Viv's family traditionally has a goose.
Tumblr media
Ernie the butcher jokingly suggests stuffing the turkey with a goose!
Tumblr media
“Lucy and the Plumber” (1964)
Lucy’s first talent discovery was made in Mr. Krause’s butcher shop when she saw his German Shepard Beauty “howl like the Beatles” when Mr. Krause (Tom G. Linder) played the harmonica.
Tumblr media
”Lucy and the Great Bank Robbery” (1964)
Reading The Danfield Tribune, Viv notes that Oscar the butcher has a special on rump roast. This may be a throwback to Ethel Mertz’s Uncle Oscar the butcher.
Tumblr media
“Lucy Gets Her Maid” (1965)
When Lucy and Viv take jobs as maids for a wealthy philanthopist, they realize that they not only have to prepare and serve the meals, but they have to act as their own butcher, too!
Tumblr media
“Lucy and the Old Mansion” (1965)
A wrong number on the telephone keeps trying to reach Irving's Meat Market.
Tumblr media
“Lucy Meets Mickey Rooney” (1966)
The backdrop for the Charlie Chaplin sketch features a sign for a market that has “Low Prices on Meat’s”.  The grammatically incorrect possessive apostrophe is particularly odd. By that logic, the episode should be titled “Lucy Meet’s Mickey Rooney”!
Tumblr media
“Someone’s on the Ski Lift with Dinah” (1971)
Harry feels entitled to approach Dinah Shore because his butcher’s cousin’s son’s best friend is engaged to her manicurist.
Tumblr media
“Mary Jane’s Boyfriend” (1974)
Mary Jane’s boyfriend of the title owns a meat market. His name is Walter Butley (Cliff Norton). Harry calls Walter “meathead” because when he walked in the door, Lucy had just plopped a package of ground round on his head.

SHORT STORY: Things Will Never Be the Same by Chelsea Harris (2016)
I’m eating breakfast at the kitchen counter when he comes in and says, “You’re pregnant.”  He sets down a pregnancy test and I pick it up like it’s a slice of toast and I bring it into the bathroom and shut the door. It is negative. I splash water on my cheeks and I come out and I say, Oh my god, we’re having a baby, in my best surprised voice. “I know,” he says. “I already bought a crib online.” I watch his body move as he turns and opens the door. It is stiff. As stiff as the door. I go to the window and look out and I see him out in the yard. I see him digging a hole next to our failed attempt at a vegetable garden with a toy shovel that he stole from the turtle-shaped sandbox next door, and he is sweating.
When he comes back in I’m asleep on the couch and he shakes me awake and he says “Get dressed, we’re going to the hospital. You need to get an abortion. I just met with a banker and there is no way we can cover the costs of having a child.” He is right. We’re living in a studio apartment and our dishwasher is broken and our shower takes twenty minutes to heat up and I haven’t bought a new pair of shoes in a year and a half and he works at a call center and I take online surveys and I don’t know the first thing about  properly installing a car seat and we don’t even have a car. We go to the ER and he calmly explains our situation to the receptionist. I watch the stripes on the back of his shirt zig and zag as he speaks, like they’re dancing. She shakes her head and tells him to take a seat. I think she tells him to get out instead but I don’t argue with what he says, I never do. It is easier that way. There is a lifetime movie about a couple who is about to have a baby playing on the TV in the corner. Except they have a two bedroom house and an SUV and a family who throws them a baby shower at a venue on the ocean, and there are little storks with blue and pink ribbons tied around their necks strung up everywhere, and a cake shaped like a baby stroller, and not one person has a pimple. I sink back into the chair and I pick up a brochure about Hand-Foot-and-Mouth disease and I only make it through the first panel when he tugs my arm and tells me that we have to go.
When we get home I notice a mound of dirt next to the hole he was digging earlier and he says, “The baby has died.” He says, “We must bury it.” He says, “I will call a priest.” I say, But you don’t know any priests. And I am right, he doesn’t. We’ve never even been to church. He grabs his messenger bag off the chair by the door and he leaves. He doesn’t come back for a very long time.
We’ve been together since that time I was a taxi driver and I was driving him to his friend’s place on the west side of town and I never stopped. He said, “You missed the turn.” He said, “I could be a murderer you know. I could be a rapist. I could be a psychopath.” I said, That might be nice, I’ve never met any of those kinds of people before. What do you think murderers eat for breakfast? Do you think they buy scratch tickets? Do you think they go to fairs? Do you think they like cotton candy? He said, “I know where we can go.” He said, “Pull over and let me drive.” And I did. And he took me to a dead end an hour away. And at that dead end he crawled into the backseat with me and he kissed me harder than anybody had ever kissed me and he said, “You taste like melancholy which is also kind of like stale chocolate” and he said, “Take off your shirt I want to see your breasts in the moonlight” and he said, “Your nipples are as sharp as thumbtacks” and then he fucked me and I fell asleep and when I woke up in the morning he was on top of me looking down at me and he said, “Don’t worry,” and he held my face like I was the smallest thing in the world, like he just discovered me. Like I was always his.
I fall onto the couch and turn on the TV. The lifetime movie about the pregnant couple is still on. They’re in the hospital and they’re about to have the baby and the woman isn’t even sweating. They’re wheeling her to her room and the man is by her side and he’s rubbing her neck and she is smiling and holding her tummy and every time she passes someone they say Good luck! or You get em girl! or they give her a really exaggerated high five and I think, is this a football game or a maternity ward? I think, boy, this is the happiest hospital I’ve ever seen. I think, is everyone getting paid extra to be this nice? And then I remember that this is a movie and they are just actors and I bet in real life this woman wanted to walk the red carpet but she was only good enough for the lifetime network and then I feel bad for her. They’re in the room now and the woman is in the bed and her family is there and they’re holding balloons and one of them has a six-pack of cupcakes and all of them are radiating happiness. Like this is a game show and they all won six million dollars and four corvettes and a jet-ski and they’ll never have to worry about paying their electricity bill again. Sometimes I think I want this. Sometimes I want this life with the Coach wallets full of cash and the Ferraris and a husband who works 9-5 Monday through Friday and on the weekends takes me and the kids out for ice cream, or to the beach, or on a vacation in the Alps because he can. Sometimes I want it. But then I remember that that life takes choices, takes decisions, and I think that this is easier. Being with him, here. Watching these other lives when I feel like I might want them, just to get a taste. Just to convince me I don’t.
He comes home and I am standing at the stove making a grilled cheese and he says, “Pack your things. We’re moving.” I turn off the stove and open the fridge and begin throwing food into the trash can across the kitchen like it’s a game. He says, “Don’t you want to know why?” I shrug. It doesn’t really interest me. He says, “The neighbors.” He moves closer to me and he says, “The neighbors know about the baby.” He puts his hand on my shoulder and he says, “I killed the baby.” I try to look surprised but not too surprised, I don’t want to give him the wrong impression, I don’t want to freak him out. I put down the carton of eggs I’m holding and I stand up with his hand balancing on my shoulder like a parrot and I cup his cheeks between my hands and I can feel them oozing through my fingers and his eyes are saying things that I’m pretending not to see and I kiss the tip of his nose and I say, in my best soothing voice, I say, Don’t worry.
