Same anon as the last ask, and I've continued thinking of like thematic songs. And it's so easy to think of MC and J songs for the simple fact that there are a lot of songs about being betrayed by someone close to you or that person leaving the singer behind in one way or another. Like off the top of my head (some of these are vibes and others are due to the lyrics), there's I Have Questions by Camila Cabello, A Thousand Ways by Phoebe Ryan, Damage by Outr3ach, Hurts Like Hell by Fleurie, though I'd say it's more of an MC song than an MC and J one since you've said MC has had to deal with abandonment before J. The same goes for Juvenile Mind by Cadmium, i hope ur miserable until ur dead by Nessa Barrett, and Lost My Mind by Alice Kristiansen, which also fits before MC realized J wasn't coming back. Don't Watch Me Cry by Alexandra Porat, then of course there's The Knife In My Back by Alec Benjamin, After The Heartbreak by Brielle Von Hugel, and Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi. I'd also argue Oh Raven (Sing Me A Happy Song) by Unlike Pluto kinda fits as well. But aside from MC and J songs, I've also been thinking of MC and C songs like Monsters by Katie Sky, Don't Deserve You by Plumb, Perfectly Imperfect by Declan J Donovan, and Paranoid by Emily Warren. Those are the MC and C songs I can think of at the moment; there are definitely songs that have slipped my mind. Though I'm curious, how long did MC, J, and C know each other? It would make things so much worse if J was around during the other times MC was abandoned, which that reminded me of all my friends are fake by Tate McRae, since depending on the timeline, I could see MC being very skeptical about the both of them at first. I'm also assuming that J's abandonment was the worst MC has dealt with so far, along with MC canonically having abandonment issues and possibly low self-esteem. While going back through this, I realized I might have gotten carried away with just how many songs I listed.

J and MC knew each other for eleven years before J ditched them, about 5-6 years before C joined their little duo. I'd say MC still had a childlike innocence about them when they met J because they were so young, so they weren't exactly distracting of anyone yet. By the time C came around, MC was more of a teenager then and could have definitely developed a natural skepticism toward people who they didn't already trust (too bad the fire was coming from inside the house).

MC absolutely has abandonment issues stemming from the worst events in their childhood years and beyond (im looking at you J). After all they've been through, it wouldn't make sense if they made it out a completely normal person with zero of their trauma effecting them.

I wouldn't say they have set in-stone self-esteem issues, but on some level, the reason they're trying so hard to prove themselves with their music and singing connects back to them not thinking they're enough as they are (at least when they story begins).

J’s abandonment was obviously the nail on the coffin for cementing MC’s abandonment issues in reality, but I don't know if I would necessarily call J’s betrayal the worst one they've gone through. I think it depends on the type of MC you're playing and their internal thought process more than anything

BUT its definitely the most fresh and still-stinging wound they've accumulated. There’s nobody else but C who could even come close to breaking them like J did buuuuut obviously that's not going to happen any time soon

In short: abandonment issues? Check. Self-esteem issues? On a subconscious level. J’s abandonment being the biggest? Maybe

So, what have I learned from observation of Degenerate Hollywood and its sick traditions?

First off, Timothy Chalamet is most definitely being pimped out, and Kylie Jenner is just another well-paid beard. There is no way in hell that a thirsty little pushover like Chalamet is going to be too intimidating for his people to talk to, as the article, explaining why he lost, implies. He will do anything he is told to, mostly because he really has NO choice. If people go back and look at some of Chalamet's public appearances in recent years, you can see it in his eyes. He catches abuse and what a nice bunch of grown men he hangs out with.

Good old Adam Sandler certainly didn't disappoint. The layers of meaning on him are near genius:

The mocking of tradition and public decorum ala Fetterman and Zelensky; an ongoing attempt to dismantle our societal norms

The Color of the Ukranian flag when paired with Chalamet. Yellow clothing is code for a Trafficked victim

Hood Rat outfit as a shout-out to the recent desperate push of the Music Industry to boost sagging Rap Music sales

Taking center stage as Timothy's Handler or one of his Programmers. The amount of time they've spent together over the years, along with using Chalamet to boost yet another failed project of Sandlers' is a big, red flag

No matter what he does or where he goes, the Academy obviously has Big Ben on the brain, even as they hand out Oscars to former Marvel actors, like cheap candy (shame about Sebastian, tho 😏) They also continue to freeze out and fuck over stronger talent, even at the expense of the increasingly dismal ratings.

Timothy Chalamet's outfit was indeed a subtle throwback to Benedict, playing a Pedophile in Atonement. 'They' nearly always add several meanings into the coding, making it a little more difficult to discern, but as a long time movie buff, this just added to the overall creepiness, for me. I knew there was something familiar about how Timothy was dressed, paired with the Pornstache.

At this point, I really don't think I want to see Benedict get on Oscar. The entire industry and most of the people involved in it are very, very sick. Not one moral man or decent role model is to be found in Hollywood, and that renders it obsolete. For what is there to look up to? Absolutely nothing.

a brief note on American Exceptionalism

I find the conversation about American Exceptionalism extremely boring. I don't ask my students about it, I don't bring it up in class, I don't care.

But I will say this: this is something I have picked up in my travels, and I present it to you, the internet, to put into your pocket. Carry it around with you, and retrieve it as needed.

If a European ever says to an American something like "the United States is not special," the affect of this will often be that they are inviting the American to come off the pedestal and just be a normal person with everyone else. If only that were so.

Sometimes that may be their meaning, but surprisingly often, you may, on their behalf, insert the following qualification: "The United States is not special because Europe is special."

Europe could be Europe. Depending on the narrator, it might specifically be the United Kingdom, or Scotland, or England, or Ireland, or France, or Poland, or Switzerland, or a specific city like Amsterdam (even a German might secretly be thinking it in their heart of hearts).

They won't admit this, but I promise you it is what they are thinking in almost every instance.
