The Battle of Trafalgar - a brief timeline

At 6am on 21 October 1805, the two fleets sighted each other and at 6.40am Nelson gave the order to ‘prepare for battle’. The French were sailing in line off Cape Trafalgar, while the British came in from the west, gradually forming two lines. The British fleet was outnumbered, the enemy totalling nearly 30,000 men and 2632 guns to Nelson’s 18,000 men and 2148 guns.

At 11.45am Nelson ordered a special signal to be flown from his flagship Victory. It read: ‘England expects that every man will do his duty’. The signal was greeted with delight by the fleet.

Finally, at 11.50am, French commander Pierre-Charles-Jean-Baptiste-Silvestre de Villeneuve sent the signal ‘engage the enemy’. The French vessel Fougueux fired the first shots at Vice-Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood’s flagship, Royal Sovereign. The battle had begun. Collingwood was the first to reach the enemy line, firing a broadside into one of the Spanish flagships, Santa Anna. The ships in his division followed him, approaching in a slanting line, spreading the force of the impact and enveloping the allied rear as Nelson had intended.

Nelson meanwhile headed towards the great Spanish ship, Santissima Trinidad, but spotting that Villeneuve was flying his flag on the Bucentaure, the next ship astern, he ordered Flag Captain Thomas Hardy to attack her first. The Victory passed under the stern, firing a broadside as she went, giving the Bucentaure a knockout blow.

As the Victory moved on she became entangled in the Redoutable, and the two ships drifted away. This created a large gap in the Franco-Spanish line through which Nelson’s division then poured, splitting the enemy fleet in two – again, exactly as Nelson intended.

The battle developed into a ferocious pounding match but the British had the advantage thanks to Nelson’s strategic pre-planning and the fact his men were better trained in delivering rapid, accurate gunnery. When firing finally ceased at 5.30pm, 17 enemy ships had been captured and another was a blazing wreck. Four managed to escape but were captured a few weeks later, and 11 managed to struggle back to Cadiz.

A total of 449 British sailors were killed and 1217 wounded. French and Spanish losses were heavier: 4408 were dead, 2545 wounded and some 20,000 taken prisoner.

Britain’s decisive victory was overshadowed by news of the death of Nelson, who was shot onboard Victory at 1.15pm and died at 4.30pm. The triumph was further eclipsed by a fierce storm that raged after the battle, forcing the British to abandon most of their captured enemy ships.

News of Trafalgar reached London a fortnight later in the early hours of 6 November 1805. Public rejoicing for the victory was muted by widespread sorrow for the death of Nelson. As a reward for Trafalgar, Collingwood was made a baron, all the captains received the official Naval Gold Medal and a special grant of money was made by the government to all those who had taken part. This was to compensate them for the prize money they lost when their captured vessels sank in the storm.

The Battle of Trafalgar cemented Britain’s reputation as ruler of the seas and demonstrated that the Royal Navy had superiority in training, professionalism and expertise in naval tactics that set it apart from its rivals. By 1809 there were over 140,000 men serving on 732 ships, more than ever before.

However, the victory at Trafalgar had little overall impact on the course of the war. Napoleon needed more to be stopped.

Here are the three main goddesses of nature!

Himanotrude Etluszoripha is a taciturn sky goddess who often comes off as overbearingly reserved and uncommunicative, usually keeping her emotions hidden. She’s capable of showing immense kindness, mercy, and unconditional love, but she can have a fiery temper when wrongfully provoked. She possesses a cruel and unloving disposition towards her only daughter, birthing her out of misguided jealousy that was directed towards her younger sisters. She has a strong habit of doing things her own way and she possesses a resourceful, open-minded, curious imagination that never seems to die out. Himanotrude is unbreakably truthful and she has an inspiring sense of peacefulness, justice, and enlightened wisdom. She’s prudently quiet and observant, utilising her excellent active listening skills to engage with her environment. As a result of this, she can meticulously notice small details that a majority of people miss. She can be a showy, abrasive, capricious, and weirdly seductive, but her seclusion and timidness is undeniably apparent.

She’s approximately 120 ft (3657.6 cm) and her swirling head is made out of feathers in the hues of yellow-orange, rufous, lilac, jade green, turquoise, icterine, cerulean, and black. She has three human-like eyes that are placed in a V-shape with white sclera, glistening pupils, red-violet irises, and yellow ochre eyebrows. Himanotrude’s body is weirdly serpentine with a mass of 68 doll-like, feminine bodies gruesomely fused together in a chain. The skin of her body is a purplish umber and she has a 18 ft (548.64 cm) draconic tail that’s a rusty orange. She uses her 134 arms and clawed, six fingered hands and a single pair of lioness hindlegs to walk on the ground, and 34 common grackle wings that start massive to noticeably shorter, yet usable length. The first torso is wearing a one-shouldered mantle of purple jasper and a starry brass gorget, and she has a 5 ft (152.4 cm) neck covered in blue holy flames. The gorget depicts a beaming sun that’s partially eclipsed by the moon with cloud-like patterning. The shoulder that isn’t covered by her mantle is occupied by a golden pauldron that depicts a phoenix in a forward-looking position with its head facing right, while holding a fiery serpent in its talons. She has a luminous, flaxen cloud behind her head and she wears golden armlets that are decorated with sapphire and sunstone. 

She can manipulate the divine skies and cosmos with heavenly influence, and she has full control of the stars, every aspect of the sun, air, weather, light, and dark. She can manipulate the movement and rotation of planets, day, night, dawn, dusk, twilight, eclipses, clouds, and optical phenomena. Himanotrude has total jurisdiction over the skies as a personal domain, which means that she has absolute control over its elements. She can effortlessly create a physical body that is made up of the sky, quintessence, and weather phenomena, and heal herself and others by using air. She’s able to perceive everything through the use of suns and moonlight, and she can utilise solar and lunar energy, photons, shadows, and darkness to teleport. She can block out luminescence that comes from the sun, moon, and stars through causing permanent or temporary darkness. Himanotrude is omnipresent and she has infinite knowledge of the celestial that is far beyond human comprehension. She has a purely divine, acute sense of sight, touch, and hearing, and she’s fully capable of flying in the sky and outer space. She can mask reality, pierce all illusions, induce sleep and dreams, spark prophetic visions, awaken intuition, and heal life with sunlight. She has superior physical strength of endurance, incredible durability, and an endless amount of stamina.

As an Æylphitus, the different parts of her name have special meanings: Himanotrude means “heaven’s strength” and Etluszoripha means “to uphold and support, to endure or mountain-raging”.

Her sacred animals are the phoenix, gryphon, caladrius, eagle, pegasus, butterfly, dragonfly, ladybug, lion, and blue-gold ophiomorphos.

Blodeghuta L’Ægorvinus/Schuzelonta Chatzerbodius is an oceanic goddess who goes by two different names and she’s capable of utterly vicious behaviour. She tends to struggle with showing legitimate honour, but she does show deep respect and admiration for her responsibilities. She treats her only daughter with utmost tenderness and serenity, ensuring that her independence and thirst for knowledge are intact. She possesses an extremely forbidding, yet tranquil aura, and she isn’t afraid to show mercy and forgiveness as well as express harmful intentions. She has a voracious appetite, but she’s emotionally and generously versatile and incapable of lying. Blodeghuta/Schuzelonta is cunningly introspective and self-sufficient, but she does have an unbreakable fondness for causing playful mischief. She has a habit of seeking critical and authentic information through her natural curiosity and determination. She has abnormally frequent mood swings that take her from intimidating and destructive to gentle-hearted and peaceful.

She’s about 107 ft (3261.36 cm) and she possesses an inverted triangle mesomorphic body type with four arms, broad shoulders, and a defined waist. Her skin is translucent water with a prominent blue pigment, revealing her pinkish grey brain and a few torso organs such as a stony heart, lungs, liver, stomach, and intestines. Blodeghuta/Schuzelonta has a long, coiling leopard spot jasper fish tail that has a row of spikes running down her spine, six curved gill slits above the first pair of shark-like fins, citrine belly, and iridescent scales. She has six halves of pale red-eyed wolves with coppery fur coats, long necks, and triple rows of teeth surrounding her waist. Her three eyes are a pupiless amber with purplish outlining and she has an omnivorous mouth and pointed ears, but lacks other facial features. She possesses hair of red foam that appears to be super wavy, reaching slightly over the middle of her back. Her hair is decorated with shells and coral reefs, and she’s accompanied by a 13 ft (396.24 cm) male ribbon eel. She wears a gorget made from precious coral that has a wavy base and a conch shell necklace. Blodeghuta/Schuzelonta also wears two pauldrons of golden pearl and each one is designed differently: the left is a leopard seal’s head and the right depicts a dolphin encircling a human-faced moon.

She holds complete dominion over the oceans and all individual aspects that dwell within or define them, and she can control the sea and storms. She’s also able to manipulate aquatic life, sea monsters, hydrological disasters, precipitation, wet seasons, ice, air, electricity, and water. She can rapidly heat surrounding liquid and generate their boiling temperatures in order to blister, dehydrate, and damage faraway targets. Blodeghuta/Schuzelonta has an infinite amount of knowledge that allows her to perfectly understand, remember, and recall everything about water and the ocean. She has been accidentally mistaken as four separate entities: Blodeghuta, the goddess of bloody foam; L’Ægorvinus, the giant of the sea; Schuzelonta, the sea monster of the narrow strait in Messina; and Chatzerbodius, the whirlpool nymph.

As an Æylphitus, the different parts of her name have special meanings: Blodeghuta means “she with the bloody hair” and L’Ægorvinus means “sea giant of robbery or hoarse water-man”. In regards to her second name, Schuzelonta means “to rend, dog-shark or hermit crab” and Chatzerbodius means “swallow and belch”.

Her sacred animals are the ribbon eel, plumed whale, leopard seal, snallygaster, salamander, swordfish, nautilus, dolphin, duck, seahorse, and hippocampus.

Her sacred plants are the water lily, mackerel orchid, dog-snapper, globe thistle, chrysanthemum, agapanthus, hydrangea, and yarrow.

Her hair is often decorated with tiger lilies, marigolds, baby’s breath, cherry blossoms, and Alstromeria, and her skin has a jade and tawny sheen. She has elk antlers and four sunburst green-hazel eyes with an aquamarine and coral lustre, and slit pupils that fluctuate in size and shape based on brightness and emotion. J’Tervazoschin often dons a scarlet jasper mask with fox ears, a yellow-orange owl beak, and oval-shaped holes. A scarab-shaped amulet of gold and blue topaz, and a multi-layered conch pearl necklace both hang from her neck. She wears a chateau green high-low skirt with a wide pelorous stripe in the front and she’s completely topless. She usually wears a hooded cloak covered in soft leaves that have a gradient of purple, red, orange, yellow, and green. However, she does occasionally opt for a long fur coat made from a Southern Rocky Mountain wolf with red leopard spots.

She possesses absolute control over life-giving planets and nature, having an unlimited amount of influence over the entire world. She can sense the smallest and biggest disturbances on life-giving planets, allowing her to control and act accordingly. She has the ability to manipulate earth, fertility, caves, hills, mountains, valleys, dust, clay, crystals, coal, magma, metals, minerals, mud, salt, sand, soil, and natural disasters. The impetus behind Shrigley’s drawing was the total solar eclipse of the sun, visible at 100% from the Scilly Isles and the tip of the Cornish coast and at near 100% from most of Britain’s south west coast, on 11 August 1999. However, the words ‘fuck the eclipse’ should not be read as a direct comment from the artist about that particular eclipse...

VISIÓN GENERAL La pequeña crucifixión de Matthias Grünewald es un ejemplo magistral de la habilidad del artista para traducir su profunda fe espiritual en forma pictórica. science fact of the day- our moon!

My second favorite Moon of all time is easily The. As in. The Moon, also called Luna. Yesterday when I mentioned Io as the exception to the rule that most moons are icy, I forgot my dearly beloved Luna. The Moon is a rocky Moon, and it's unique for a number of reasons.

First of all, it's origin. The Moon was most likely born when a roughly Mars sized body, named Theia, collided with earth. What's particularly unique about this is that it's pretty unlikely- if a collision is too head-on the bodies just merge, and if the collision was too glancing, the bodies would've exchanged some matter but most of theia would've flown off into space. But if it's at just the right spot (and the right speed) then through some complex interactions, a bit of material can be left in orbit, in this case becoming the Moon. When the Moon first formed, it was 10 times closer to the earth and would've orbited in around 24 hours (not a day, because at this point earth spun once every 6 hours). Over time, however, tidal interactions cause the earth's rotational momentum to be transfered into orbital momentum for the Moon, raising it to its current height, while slowing earth down to its current speed. Through this process the Moon still drifts an average 1.5 inches (4 cm) further from the earth every year, and eventually this'll lead to the loss of total solar eclipses.

Speaking of solar eclipses, those are only possibly because of the moons enormous size. Most moons are many orders of magnitudes less massive than their host planets- titan and saturn, the second smallest ratio in our solar system, I believe, is over 4000-1. But out moon is closer to 80-1, which is damn near unheard of. In terms of size, our moon is roughly 1/4th the diameter of earth, which again, is damn near unheard of. In fact, some consider the earth and moon as a binary planetary system, rather than a planet and a moon, because the moon is just so stinking massive.

The only system that comes close is the pluto-charon system, with a mass ratio closer to 10 to 1, and diameter ratio around 2 to 2. However, because pluto is a dwarf planet, it's in a bit of a different situation. Charon may be massive enough to also be a dwarf planet, which would make pluto a binary dwarf system, which is pretty cool.

What has been the BL that took you by surprise this year?

Honestly: Minato Shouji’s Coin Laundry. 

I should probably say it was Cherry Magic: The Movie, because I really didn’t expect the movie to take such a deeply analytical turn towards Adachi’s processing of coming out. But I found Coin to be surprisingly deep! I really love all sorts of processing, whether deep or surface, and Minato’s slow realizations about his feelings towards Shin were perfect. Loved the pace, loved the sweetness, loved the loveliness. 

What has been the BL that you felt a bit disappointed with this year?

I wish wish I could put a straight show in this category because the show I watched this year that I was THE MOST disappointed by was Super Rich (just like, give me more Akaso and Machida content that’s GOOD, my good LORD).

But I don’t think I watched anything that disappointed me, BL-wise, this year. I’m catching up with A Tale of Thousand Stars from last year to prep for Moonlight Chicken next year, and I can see some repeat tropes about side stories that might annoy me a little bit, but it’s nothing huge. I really liked or LOVED what I watched this year.

What has been your favorite BL this year?

Without a doubt, Old Fashion Cupcake. This gal here had a stellar year of BL content of my faves: the Kinou Nani Tabeta movie, the Cherry Magic movie. I don’t know how next year will top it. But I overwhelmingly fell in LOVE with OFC. The acting was superb, the storyline was exquisite, the canon manga is gorgeous.

Old Fashion Cupcake is what brought me to Tumblr in July. I owe this show a LOT.

And I really loved Akk x Ayan this year in The Eclipse. I loved them. I thought Khao as Ayan slayed. Man’s underutilized when he’s in a support role. More starring roles for Khao! Only Friends, let’s mfing GO.

If you had to suggest a BL for someone what would it be?

If the person is new to BL, then Cherry Magic. Now, if that someone was willing to go down a big, long meta road with me, I could discuss for days how CM is way deeper than the fluff of the series -- campy, Kurosawa’s total weirdness, the magic hiding a lot of emotional development, my theory that the non-kisses are actually hot/heaty. 

If the person is familiar with BL, then Old Fashion Cupcake. Something HAPPENED with the writing and directing of this show that made my heart twist and turn. It was just purely amazing television, probably the best show I watched this year -- perfect timing, perfect desperation, perfect emotions, perfect everything.

What's your non-BL favorite for this year?

Probably a tie right now between Extraordinary Attorney Woo and Silent, although (it’s a wild one, but lemme go here), Ase to Sekken/Sweat and Soap may make the list. I am a HUGE fan of Sato Kanta, he takes a lot of oddball roles, and he just really killed with Ase to Sekken. (If you want to see his abs, go watch Teppachi!, but ONLY for the visuals, skip everything else.)

Razas - Hombre lobo

También llamados 'Weres'. El hombre lobo es el cambiaformas más reconocido, la mayoría buscan un equilibrio o fusión entre hombre y animal.

Es una criatura legendaria presente en muchas culturas independientes a lo largo del mundo. Se ha dicho que este es el más universal de todos los mitos, y aún hoy, mucha gente cree en la existencia de los hombres lobo o de otras clases de «hombres bestia»

Un hombre lobo tiene tres formas de licantropía; la de humano, la híbrida entre humano y lobo, y la de lobo.

En su forma humanoide es totalmente indistinguible del resto de los humanos. Su tamaño, inteligencia y demás características son las mismas que las de cualquier hombre, no son seres muy sociables.

En su forma híbrida tiene características tanto de hombre como de lobo. Tiene el cuerpo cubierto de pelo, las piernas más cortas (aunque su tamaño total suele ser unos 30 cm. mayor que en su forma humana), la cabeza de lobo, manos de humano pero con uñas de lobo y una cola corta. Puede andar a 4 patas o erguido.

Los hombres lobo, en su forma híbrida, viven en manadas de unos 6 o 7 miembros. Están formadas por un macho, una hembra y los cachorros. Los cachorros permanecen en la manada hasta los 10 años, edad a la que un hombre lobo se considera adulto. Si un hombre lobo tiene descendencia con una mujer humana, el bebé es totalmente humano.

La forma de lobo es totalmente idéntica a la de cualquier lobo común de gran tamaño, excepto por sus ojos, que brillan en la oscuridad.

Los hombres lobo, en su forma animal, suelen ser nómadas y merodean constantemente en manadas buscando humanos y otras víctimas. Al ser muy salvajes y agresivos son enemigos de cualquier ser que se les oponga. La táctica del hombre lobo es el ataque por sorpresa, acercándose con cuidado y aprovechando sus afilados colmillos para morder y desgarrar a sus víctimas. Un hombre lobo sólo puede ser herido por armas mágicas o de plata.

Se pueden distinguir dos tipos de Hombres lobo:

*Hombres lobo auténticos; para los que la licantropía es un rasgo genético. Los hijos de un Hombre Lobo nacen con la misma condición, es decir, de nacimiento.

*Hombres lobo infectados; su licantropía aparece al ser heridos por un Hombres lobo alfa mediante la mordida. Cuando un humano es mordido por un Hombre Lobo Alfa, tiene la posibilidad de adquirir la condición, si no soporta el cambio, la persona morirá. Sin embargo, si el mordido es otra raza, este no será infectado ni será hombre lobo. También hay quien a demostrado tener inmunidad a la condición, pero esto es muy escaso. Habilidades

Sentidos Agudizados: Los Hombres Lobo pueden ver, oler y ver mucho mejor que los humanos.

Curación Acelerada: Los Hombres Lobo pueden curarse de la mayoría de heridas más rápido.

Agilidad Mejorada: Los Hombres Lobo pueden correr, trepar, saltar y reaccionar más rápido que un humano normal.

Fuerza Mejorada: Los Hombres Lobo son más fuertes que un humano normal.

Transferencia de Dolor: Los Hombres Lobo pueden absorber y aliviar dolor de otros seres vivos, llegando incluso a curarlos en algunas ocasiones. (Solo Hombres lobo auténticos)

Transferencia de Recuerdos: Los Hombres Lobo pueden transferir (dar y recibir) recuerdos con otros seres vivos. (Solo Hombres lobo auténticos)

Al adquirir la condición de Hombre Lobo se curan las enfermedades que tenía cuando era humano, como el asma, ataques epilépticos, incluso cáncer. Desventajas

Acónito: Derivado de una planta, es la principal debilidad para un Hombre Lobo. Dependiendo de la cantidad pueden provocar debilidad general, alucinaciones, e incluso provocar la muerte.

Ceniza de Serbal: También conocido como Ceniza de Montaña, es un polvo que puede repeler criaturas sobrenaturales, creando una barrera. También puede causar alucinaciones y modificar el comportamiento.

Muérdago: Este planta ha demostrado ser tóxica para Hombres Lobo y humanos.

Eclipse Lunar: Los Hombres Lobo pierden su condición y todos sus poderes durante un eclipse lunar. Una vez terminado el evento recobran todas sus habilidades.

Mordeduras, rasguños y cualquier herida producida por un Hombre Lobo Alfa tardan más tiempo en curar que otras heridas

Las descargas eléctricas evitan la transformación a Hombre Lobo. Entre los Hombres Lobo existe un rango de clasificación que define su posición en la manada, así mismo, dependiendo del tipo puede ser más fuerte que otros.

*Omega (Es el rango más bajo.) (Cupos: 20)

Es un Hombre Lobo solitario, es decir, no pertenece a ninguna manada, por tanto es el más débil de los rangos. Existen dos maneras de ser Omega, de manera voluntaria, o por obligación al ser expulsado de su manada. El amarillo es el color para ojos (cuando se transforma) más habitual. Pertenece a un Beta u Omega que nunca ha asesinado a algún inocente. El Hombre Lobo Beta u Omega que haya asesinado a un inocente tendrá sus ojos de color azul.

*Beta (Cupos: 30) El Hombre Lobo que pertenece a una manada y está bajo el dominio de un Alfa. Al pertenecer a una manada es más fuerte que un Omega, sin embargo, no demuestran tener ninguna habilidad adicional que los diferencie. El amarillo es el color para ojos (cuando se transforma) más habitual. Pertenece a un Beta u Omega que nunca ha asesinado a algún inocente. El Hombre Lobo Beta u Omega que haya asesinado a un inocente tendrá sus ojos de color azul.

*Alfa (Es el rango más alto.) (Cupos: 10)

Es el líder de una manada de Hombres Lobo, por lo tanto es el más fuerte y poderoso. Es quien puede convertir a otros en hombres lobo, y conforma la manada. El color característico de un Alfa, sin importar si ha asesinado personas inocentes o no, es el rojo. Habilidades de ser un alfa -La mordida de un Alfa puede transformar a un humano en Hombre Lobo o causar su muerte. -Capacidad de ocultar su olor de otros Hombres Lobo. -Control mental sobre Betas y Omegas. -Mordeduras, rasguños y heridas producidas por un Alfa tardan más tiempo en curarse que otras heridas.

Adquisición -Un Beta o un Omega puede adquirir el rango al matar a un Alfa. -Un Beta o un Omega puede transformarse en Alfa al demostrar fuerza de carácter y voluntad. Se denomina "Alfa Verdadero" y eso ocurre cada 100 años. Al igual que el animal, los Hombres Lobos se agrupan para trabajar juntos. Las manadas tienen las siguientes características:

Debe estar conformado mínimo por un Alfa y un Beta.

El Alfa es el líder y es quien controla la manada y toma decisiones.

Los Hombres Lobo que pertenezcan a una manada se vuelven más poderosos al compartir fuerzas con sus otros compañeros.

La decisión de pertenecer a una manada es voluntaria, sin embargo, puede ser expulsado de la misma.

*Una manada lo puede completar con solo hombres lobo pero se han visto casos de una manada con varias razas.
