Ignore the ugly photo, but I went to another Art’s Advisory Board event where we did up-cycling! I got myself an awesome white T-shirt and started sowing little pockets on it. Then I started to make a thicker patch with those kitten fabrics. It was a lot of fun and I’m so glad there’s an open space for us to do fun activities like crafting. I’m also looking forward to embroider with thread now that I know how to do it!

Stamp Art Gallery
Yesterday I went to the Stamp Art Gallery at the University of Maryland for the first time. I'd see glimpses of the art but had never stepped in. There wasn't much description for a lot of the sculptures, but the paintings and other installments typically had solid background. One of the sculptures which immediately caught my attention was the one titled "Nebuchadnezzar", whom was a Babylonian king. It featured a protruding feet under what seems to be coal or some type of minerals. The matericals consisteted of things such as coal and obsedian. If I were to take a guess I'd say it represented one's conquest for valuable things such as coal. The most noteworthy part about this piece, to me however, is the amount of detail put into crafting the feet. Thia goes for everything in the gallery. I can only imagine the amount of time it took to craft everything. Seeing the pieces put into reality even more so how much time I need to dedicate to my ArtsFest pieces over the next week.

Process Binder #4
The past few weeks, I have made a lot of progress in regards to my Capstone Project for CPSA250/CPSA201. Not only did I fully complete my first portrait of Jean-Michel Basquiat, but I also completed my journal entry in connection to my visits to the Freedom School in DC with Do Better. In fact, I also have gotten well into working on my presentation through Prezi for ArtsFest and will post a link to it. Below is a portion of my journal for my Do Better visit:
During my visits to the DC Freedom School with Do Better, a community service-centered student organization that has chapters at the University of Maryland, College Park, Morehouse College, Bowie State University, and Howard University; I have had the opportunity to truly see the importance of representation manifest with my own two eyes. I have been blessed enough to have had countless opportunities to interact with and develop mentor-mentee bonds with children who look like younger versions of myself, and take me back to a time where I once did not love myself, people, history, or culture; and had no idea how to.
After volunteering with organizations and initiatives including the Blue Drop Initiative, the Slam the Gap Initiative, America Counts; and even my actual paid junior and senior counselor positions with Forcey Day Camp, one would think that I had reached my maximum potential and hit the quota on knowledge of the importance of representation. This presumption is false.
At my last visit to the Freedom School, I saw things beginning to come full circle in regards to the kids. Although I have not been able to visit too often due to scheduling conflicts with my internship at the Office of Community Engagement last semester or my job as a Marketing and Technology Assistant with the Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Education this semester, many of the kids recognized me immediately - even with yet another different hairstyle than what they had seen during my previous visits. Not only did they recognize myself and my two peers that I went with, Liz and Maimouna, but their faces literally lit up as the light bulb went off in their heads. With the Black Panther soundtrack blasting in the background and its bass making the gravel quake, we moved on to play “Red Light, Green Light” with our scholars and, dance to other current hits that they were familiar with. hen the sun eventually set, we read books with them inside to place an emphasis on and plant seeds of literacy and scholarship in young, impressionable framers of our future.

Blade Runner, the old movie and the new one
For my mom’s birthday we watched the old Blade Runner and then went to a theater to see the new one.  I had never seen either movie before but I enjoyed them both very much.  The old movie was very film noir even though it was in a futuristic world.  In both movies there really never seemed to be daylight.  The old one was slightly more jarring in the fighting because the rouge robots seemed to be crazier.  I think watching both movies around the same time enhanced the experience of the new movie.

Through the UMD school of music, I was able to watch films by early 20th Spanish filmmakers. It was a very interesting experience due to the content of the films. The films were very bizarre in content. Overall it was a very interesting and enjoyable experience.

I went to an opera performance at the Clarice on April 25th. This was a showcase for some of the classical voice students in the school of music. Some of the performances were with piano, and were not. Some were in French and some were in English. None of them used microphones. I really enjoyed it because they all had amazing voices and I don’t see opera often.

Two weekends ago I went to DC with some friends and visited the National Gallery and the Natural History Museum. After arriving on the metro and passing my favorite italian restaurant, we made our way to the gallery, where I spent most of my time in the west atrium doing a perspective sketch of the space. I also had a bit of time to check out some of their impressionist collection before we departed and headed across the mall to the Natural History, which surprising has a fair bit of art in it as well, like the Hope Diamond and many carvings and sculpture from early civilizations in the Human Origins section, which I enjoyed a fair bit. In particular, there was a totem pole from an oceanic tribe of people that stood about 10 or 12 feet, that amazed me. The highlight was a visit to the butterfly pavilion, where we could see dozens of butterflies up close, which in a way is nature’s artistry. I enjoyed my trip a lot, and only wish I had taken more pictures!

♪ September 14th, 2019 ♚  Renaissance Fair  ♪
This past weekend my mother took me to the Renaissance Fair and we all saw all sorts of great and interesting things there! For one thing, we sat and watched a couple of different Celtic bands play their bagpipes, lute, and a drum. I loved their tunes and my mother confided with me that she wanted to learn violin specifically to play Celtic music. I also got to look around at a bunch of different artist works including glass-work. It was a lot of fun!

Mvmt 2 completed?!
https://www.noteflight.com/scores/view/3d0370b60378674e263ee9c07d4d51e139aaa03e It's pretty much done. Feedback is greatly appreciated! So, how did I do on being angry? Could be angrier indeed... Symbolic things worth noting. look at the motifs. some of them are from the first movement.I gave them all namesred is "dead"- pitches DEAD of course.blue is "resolute"- symbolizes the desire to improve ochre/mustard is "time"- scale degrees ti to me in some important key.magenta is " memory"- symbolizes remembering back to a time before the griefpurple is "no"- every time you see it, it's the character saying "no" symbolizes denial. Green is when something about one of the motifs is off, perhaps the character is lying to themselves (The person that caused me grief is an oboe player, thus the oboe in this piece does more green than the other instruments) cello solo is basically you/ the protagonist/ the thought process e.g measures 100-107 the protagonist starts remembering the past (memory motif) and so the oboe is messing up your resolution.Throughout the piece, you want to be in D minor. The oboe is playing your resolution in the parallel major, making you feel like it's okay. But it's not okay. It's all weird and stuff. I feel like there's a better word than motif for the longer melodic lines. "Themes" perhaps? If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, anything else constructive, please talk to me I'm super glad to talk about my composition!

CPSA Capstone Sketches
I’ve started my first 8.5 x 11 sketches for my final. I’m currently trying to find 6 buildings that look cohesive together so that when I narrow it down to my last three, I have three buildings that are alike. I’m not sure if I want to focus on row houses or also include some stand-alone houses. I think it might be more interesting to focus on row houses because they are a staple of Baltimore City. Regardless, I might include one or two stand-alone buildings in my ink sketches just in case I change my mind. The row houses are all different styles so I need to figure out how to incorporate that into my artwork as well.

I was able to go to a LP release party by my professor in NYC. He talked about the process as well as gave a presentation of what it's like to be a musician. It was very interesting and eye opening. Unfortunately, because I didn't get a picture of him speaking, this picture of a bassoon in the same venue is the best I've got.
