As a result of all my thoughts, I decided to determine in which time periods the events of the Cars trilogy took place.
Let's start with part 1. The plot begins with the final race of the Piston Cup, which ended in a triple draw. Supposedly, the Piston Cup is based on NASCAR. In NASCAR, the final race occurs in the autumn. Also in the scenes of Mack and Lightning's journey to California, farmers' fields were shown, in which there was already vegetation ready to be harvested. Another argument in favor of the fact that the action takes place in the autumn.
But there is a problem with determining the exact year.
According to the plot of Cars: Video game, Lightning receives his first Piston Cup in 2006 (based on the final cutscene), which means that all the events in the game take place in 2006. But the season in which McQueen wins his first "useless tin" takes place AFTER the season with a loss to Chick. In other words, the game takes place after the movie. It follows from this that Lighting entered the RS in 2005, instead of 2006.
This means that the events of the first movie take place in the autumn, around October, in 2005.
The time period in Cars: Video game is extremely clear. The game follows McQueen's next season after his big loss, thus capturing the beginning and end of the season. Based on this, it turns out that the action begins in the spring of 2006, the beginning of the season, and ends in the autumn of the same year, the beginning of the off-season.
Further - more difficult. If we follow the logic of the first movie and game, then the year of events in the film is one value less than the year of release of the film itself, and the year of release of the movie is the annual value in the game.
From this it turns out that the events of Cars 2 take place in 2010. (By this point, Lightning already has 4 Piston Cups, he earned one in 2006, and the second in 2010. In total, in 2007/8/9 McQueen brought 2 more trophies) The events of the film also take place in the off-season, the return of the 95th is mentioned at the beginning, that is, in the autumn, around the end of September, beginning of October.
The second car game does not bring any specific dates, cuz... all action is a simulation. Following that logic, the events in Cars 2: Video game take place in 2011, presumably after the Grand Prix in the RS (since the map of this location is available in the simulation). The final WGP race took place in the fall during the off-season, and taking into account the new year in the game, events take place in the winter.
It turns out that the events of Cars 2: Video game take place in 2011, in winter.
The third part of Cars
I just hate this part, because God knows in what year this or that action took place. But first things first.
The first half of the film, McQueen's accident, roughly speaking, happened at God knows what point in the season. To understand this you will have to look at the second half of the film.
4 months have passed since Lightning's accident, the footage from Radiator Springs shows that the snow has not yet melted, and there are 2 weeks left before the start of the season. Based on this data and data from the first NASCAR races, we can assume that it is now late February, or early or mid-March. It turns out that McQueen's accident occurred around November.
And here's the hardest part. God knows exactly what year the accident occurred, because the plot of the third film concerns the new and old year. Because of this, 2016 can be attributed to both the accident and the beginning of the next season with Cruise. But the game comes to our aid.
We know that the events of the game take place in 2017, and then everything depends on the interpretation of its plot. If we consider the playing season as Cruz's second season on the track (which is unlikely), then the accident occurred in 2015. If we consider C3:Vg a direct continuation of the film, that is, the season shown in the film and the season in the game are one and the same, then the accident happened in 2016, which is more likely.
In total, Lightning McQueen's accident occurred in November 2016, and Cruise came to the sport in mid-March 2017
