Current temperature inside of my room right now in the middle of the night whilst about to go to sleep... villain origin story...
#You just get SOOOOO tired of being hot all the time for multiple days straight.. with very little relief ever... hhHHHH#I forget that I literally lose my mind and become evil every summer like clockwork#I don't evenknow what I mean by that because I'm just as calm/monotone as ever lol.. but I just feel more evil.. low level pent up rage#or something. nothing changes on the outside but on the inside it's like hmm.. I'm like 5% more hostile than I usually am#not outwardly expressed still of course. but just.. my bones are made of a little more violence recently..#percentages moving around. My character stats get a temporary modifier all summer where I feel chronically just a LIIIITLE more noticably#unhinged. like I will never do it of course. but I will think about. maybe I'll just throw all the plates at the wall and break every wind#ow with a baseball bat. No. I shant. I would never.. but .. I could. 5% more than I usually could. But I shan't. but let it be known.. I#c o u l d ...i COULD.. if I had to. but I don't.. but still.. keep the notion in the back of the mind.. hmm.. lol#And this is not even during a heat wave at the moment it's just like.. normal summer.. >:')#I think it's also largely the shitty apartment which was not built for coolness. Like older houses will have tall cielings and those window#above the doors and ceiling fans and be built high up from the ground and all these other ways to manage warm weather#naturally. but cheaply constructed dinky city apartments with no ventilation and windows only on one side and blah blah#It retains heat insanely like being trapped in a green house or something#even with all the windows open & fans in the house and stuff it just doesn't really move air well because the space is not made to do that.#Also really testing my anticapitalism/leftism/etc... sitting and thinking 'damn maybe I should play the stock market.. I should sell#some sculptures and overprice them.. howmuch could I charge for these clothes..' < *is desperate to afford a living situation with central#heating and air conditioning*#Haha! Guillotines?? who said anything about those? I LOVE rich people.. haha.. now what's a guy gotta do to instantly get about $50.000 ar#ound here? haha! kidnap someone and sell their organs? okay haha! I love the free market! going to home depot right#now to buy an axe! Don't you just hate taxes? so glad I live in the best country in the world under the best economic system on the planet#USA! USA!! USA!!! *visibly shaking. nose starts bleeding. you notice i am also levitating off the ground slightly*#ANYWAY gfgfgh.... winter......... my sweet child....i miss you so so much.... I made kale chips again. and had asparag#us. And saw a duck. carved a lot of things out of avocado pits. Little tidbits to keep me sane..#See a funny little duck outside and go 'hmm... life is okay actually :) I no longer want to break windows :3'#then it gets like 85F inside again and you're liek NEVERMINDaaaaaaahhh!!!!! then you see a duck next morning and calm down :)

Integrated Central Air Conditioning Market 2022 Opportunities, Segmentation, Assessment and Competitive Strategies by 2030
The Global Integrated Central Air Conditioning Market is expected to grow at a considerable rate by 2030, with a growing CAGR (Compound annual growth rate) of over 2022-2030.
A system known as central air conditioning circulates cooled air from a central point through ductwork and one or more fans to and from individual rooms. Cool air is circulated in central air conditioning systems via a series of supply and return ducts. Cool air from the air conditioner is transferred to the house through supply channels and registers, which are openings in the walls, floors, or ceiling that are covered by grills. Through return ducts and registers, this cooled air floats back to the central air conditioner as it heats up while circulating around the house. Compared to room air conditioners, central air conditioners are more effective, convenient, quiet, and simple to use. It is common practise to employ a central air conditioning system to chill homes, factories, large buildings, offices, hotels, etc.
The cooling of the indoor environment is directly tied to the air conditioning systems. Humidity regulation and air purification are the two main purposes of air conditioning systems. Distributing and conditioning air to the needed space are other aspects of air conditioning. Additionally, air conditioners (ACs) support monitoring and managing temperature, humidity, and airflow in a specific space. The market for air conditioning systems is expected to expand as a result of factors including rising urbanisation, improved economic conditions in emerging economies, and rising per capita income.
A packaged unit or a split-system unit can be a central air conditioner. An indoor cabinet houses the indoor heat exchanger and blower while an outdoor cabinet houses the compressor, fan, and outdoor heat exchanger in a split-type central air conditioning system. The internal cabinet of some split-system air conditioners may house a furnace or a heat pump's indoor heat exchanger. A split-system may be an affordable option if a home already has a furnace but not an air conditioner.

A taxonomy of corporate bullshit
Tumblr media
Next Tuesday (Oct 31) at 10hPT, the Internet Archive is livestreaming my presentation on my recent book, The Internet Con.
Tumblr media
There are six lies that corporations have told since time immemorial, and Nick Hanauer, Joan Walsh and Donald Cohen's new book Corporate Bullsht: Exposing the Lies and Half-Truths That Protect Profit, Power, and Wealth in America* provides an essential taxonomy of this dirty six:
https://thenewpress.com/books/corporate-bullsht
In his review for The American Prospect, David Dayen summarizes how these six lies "offer a civic-minded, reasonable-sounding justification for positions that in fact are motivated entirely by self-interest":
https://prospect.org/culture/books/2023-10-27-lies-my-corporation-told-me-hanauer-walsh-cohen-review/
I. Pure denial
As far back as the slave trade, corporate apologists and mouthpieces have led by asserting that true things are false, and vice-versa. In 1837, John Calhoun asserted that "Never before has the black race of Central Africa, from the dawn of history to the present day, attained a condition so civilized and so improved, not only physically, but morally and intellectually." George Fitzhugh called enslaved Africans in America "the freest people in the world."
This tactic never went away. Children sent to work in factories are "perfectly happy." Polluted water is "purer than the water that came from the river before we used it." Poor families "don't really exist." Pesticides don't lead to "illness or death." Climate change is "beneficial." Lead "helps guard your health."
II. Markets can solve problems, governments can't
Alan Greenspan made a career out of blithely asserting that markets self-correct. It was only after the world economy imploded in 2008 that he admitted that his doctrine had a "flaw":
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/greenspan-admits-flaw-to-congress-predicts-more-economic-problems
No matter how serious a problem is, the market will fix it. In 1973, the US Chamber of Commerce railed against safety regulations, because "safety is good business," and could be left to the market. If unsafe products persist in the market, it's because consumers choose to trade safety off "for a lower price tag" (Chamber spox Laurence Kraus). Racism can't be corrected with anti-discrimination laws. It's only when "the market" realizes that racism is bad for business that it will finally be abolished.
III. Consumers and workers are to blame
In 1946, the National Coal Association blamed rampant deaths and maimings in the country's coal-mines on "carelessness on the part of men." In 2003, the National Restaurant Association sang the same tune, condemning nutritional labels because "there are not good or bad foods. There are good and bad diets." Reagan's interior secretary Donald Hodel counseled personal responsibility to address a thinning ozone layer: "people who don’t stand out in the sun—it doesn’t affect them."
IV. Government cures are always worse than the disease
Lee Iacocca called 1970's Clean Air Act "a threat to the entire American economy and to every person in America." Every labor and consumer protection before and since has been damned as a plague on American jobs and prosperity. The incentive to work can't survive Social Security, welfare or unemployment insurance. Minimum wages kill jobs, etc etc.
V. Helping people only hurts them
Medicare will "destroy private initiative for our aged to protect themselves with insurance" (Republican Senator Milward Simpson, 1965). Covid relief is unfair to people that are currently in the workforce" (Republican Governor Brian Kemp, 2021). Welfare produces "learned helplessness."
VI. Everyone who disagrees with me is a socialist
Grover Cleveland's 2% on top incomes is "communistic warfare against rights of property" (NY Tribune, 1895). "Socialized medicine" will leave "our children and our children’s children [asking] what it once was like in America when men were free" (Reagan, 1961).
Everything is "socialism": anti-child labor laws, Social Security, minimum wages, family and medical leave. Even fascism is socialism! In 1938, the National Association of Manufacturers called labor rights "communism, bolshevism, fascism, and Nazism."
As Dayen says, it's refreshing to see how the right hasn't had an original idea in 150 years, and simply relies on repeating the same nonsense with minor updates. Right wing ideological innovation consists of finding new ways to say, "actually, your boss is right."
The left's great curse is object permanence: the ability to remember things, like the fact that it used to be possible for a worker to support a family of five on a single income, or that the economy once experienced decades of growth with a 90%+ top rate of income tax (other things the left manages to remember: the "intelligence community" are sociopathic monsters, not Trump-slaying heroes).
When the business lobby rails against long-overdue antitrust action against Amazon and Google, object permanence puts it all in perspective. The talking points about this being job-destroying socialism are the same warmed-over nonsense used to defend rail-barons and Rockefeller. "If you don't like it, shop elsewhere," has been the corporate apologist's line since slavery times.
As Dayen says, Corporate Bullshit is a "reference book for conservative debating points, in an attempt to rob them of their rhetorical power." It will be out on Halloween:

This Queen Anne Victorian in Columbus, WI is, if you ask me, a bargain at $635K. It has 5bds, 3ba, and you must see the interior.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a very large house, but have you ever seen an entrance like this with 2 separate stairs? Isn't this stunning?
Tumblr media
There's so much architectural detail and this fireplace is magnificent.
Tumblr media
The brick fireplace in this sitting is unusual. Normally, I would expect to see it in a home of a different era.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even though it's a bit darkish, I don't mind the wallpaper. It's what would've been in this home back in the day.
Tumblr media
It's furnished with the dark antiques of the era that are museum quality. The draperies the rooms a kind of heavy look.
Tumblr media
I have to say that the antiques are magnificent, though.
Tumblr media
The dining room has beautiful wainscoting. Everything in this home is original and the coffered ceiling is also pretty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The enclosed front porch entrance is so lovely. Can you imagine this as a conservatory full of plants?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This cute little room would make a nice home office.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looks like they started working on the walls in here. Original light fixture and lovely fireplace.
Tumblr media
What a great bath. Look at this. It's so pretty and vintage.
Tumblr media
Oh, my. I'm in love with the kitchen. It's so big, and check out the stove. This is an original kitchen. I wonder if the big counter on the right will convey.
Tumblr media
This is so elegant. I have to say that this home is special.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wow, it's like a museum. I like how the fireplace is next to the bed. On cold nights, it kept them toastier.
Tumblr media
Wow, look at the twin beds. This room is very large, but I can't help looking at the antiques.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is truly a beautiful home and here's a bonus- it has central air conditioning. On some real estate sites it's been removed from the market b/c it's been for sale for over 235 days. So, it's time to give it a rest, I guess. Maybe if they modernize it, paint all the wood black, and the walls gray, remove all the antiques and let the agent Photoshop modern furniture in, it'll sell. Oh, Lord, I hope not.

On the final evening of a trip to China this summer, I went out to dinner with friends at a shopping mall in central Shanghai and had my eyes opened by something unexpected.
Shopping malls have been the rage in China for decades, never falling out of fashion as some would say they did long ago in the country that invented them, the United States. Although a definitive count is hard to come by, in Shanghai alone, China’s largest city and one of its richest, there are said to be hundreds of malls, and I’ve been visiting them frequently since the early 2000s, when I lived in the city.
This might make malls an unlikely backdrop for an insight into ongoing social currents in the country, but that’s exactly what my dinner experience delivered to me on this night. First of all was the location. When I received the invitation, I immediately recognized the address, Middle Huaihai Road, in the city’s elegant former French Concession. And as I approached the place in a car hailed using an Uber-like app, I remembered the neighborhood as having once been home to one of the city’s biggest and most famous fake-goods markets. For decades, this was where airline crews and foreign visitors flocked to purchase knockoffs of Western luxury brands at rock-bottom prices, as well as pirated copies of DVDs of the latest Hollywood releases, among other goods.
Upon approach, the mall announced just how much China—and the world—has changed in the last 10 years, through the gigantic, illuminated lettering of its anchor business: an enormous Prada store, replete with the ritzy and distinctive architecture that normally goes with such things. Other pricey brand stores included Gucci, Miu Miu, and Dolce & Gabbana.
Even before I stepped inside, I knew that I was in for a special experience. Neatly dressed valets and doormen greeted arriving customers pointing them, a bit superfluously, toward the automatic doorways, where even from the outside, the welcome blast of air conditioning could be felt in the warm and thickly humid night.
I have long been aware that Chinese shopping malls, like malls in other countries, exist on a spectrum, from low to high end, and I had been to other high-end malls in China before, including in other cities, from Beijing to Chengdu and Xi’an. The celebration of luxury on display at the IAPM Mall struck me as a whole new level, though, and this went well beyond its collection of commercial tenants. What impressed me more that evening was the clientele. No small number of the people sauntering through its white decor looked like customers in a Paris or Milan fashion show, and, often enough, like the models themselves, complete with looks of haughty self-contentment and practiced ennui.
One of the most prevalent storylines about China in the wake of COVID-19 has been the dearth of consumer demand. This was clearly not the problem, though, for the occupants of the small world that I encountered that evening. There have been related storylines about weak investment data, both from Chinese and foreign sources, as well as an even longer-running topic, an ongoing crisis over overcapacity in the housing market.
I am admittedly limited to appearances, but on this one Friday night the people in this one mall didn’t seem to have a care in the world. Not only were they dressed to kill, but they were filling the many shops and restaurants, where they were eating fancy meals and, yes, spending money and buying things. My visits to more ordinary malls on this trip and other recent visits have revealed very different behaviors to me. The foot traffic in them appears reasonably healthy, even busy, but the stores, from jewelry shops and mobile phone dealers to clothing boutiques, have most often been empty, or close to it, and the food consumption on display heavily favored low-end restaurants and fast food.
The point that I have been working my way toward is that more than ever before, this trip left me with the impression of China as a deeply and increasingly bifurcated society, one in which inequality is high and seems to be growing, where people are living in increasingly separate worlds.
As I noted in my last column, which also drew from this trip, large numbers of Chinese people have recently been seeking ways to exit their society, pessimistically voting with their feet, in effect, about their country’s prospects after a long period of world-beating and transformational economic growth. The question is whether this matters to the country’s leadership, or better put: At what point would an exodus of people be deemed a crisis or emergency?
There is an argument to be made that the flight of many thousands of people who are struggling in China’s current economic environment actually benefits the state, by serving as a form of social release or, in other words, an escape valve. People from the countryside, from third-tier cities in the country’s interior, members of the working and lower-middle classes enjoy little political influence in today’s China. What the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and state pay much closer attention to are the sentiments and behaviors of the more prosperous elements of the society that are concentrated in the giant and relatively rich cities of the country’s east.
If religion, for Karl Marx, was famously called the opium of the masses, then material comfort; dernier cri fashion; access to the most prestigious brands; and lifestyle enhancements, like the endless fancy dining choices on display in the mall I visited, from the sumptuous and elegant Singapore soup dumpling restaurant where we ate to the embarrassment of choices of specialty dessert places (I chose chocolates from an expensive Italian-named place), would seem to be the pacifiers of China’s upper-middle classes.
By the standards of Americans with decent professional incomes, the cost of living in China’s most affluent cities often seems quite reasonable. Foreign luxury goods may be expensive (and heavily taxed), but restaurants, clothes, transportation, and many services are downright cheap. If this is true for an American, it is also true for an affluent Chinese person, like those in evidence on this Friday night.
For me, this helps make sense of a lot of what is going on in China today. Scholars have long explained the post-Tiananmen Square social contract in these terms: Stay out of politics, the sole preserve of the CCP, and focus on that era’s newly sanctified secular goal, getting rich.
Becoming affluent has become much more difficult in recent years, with the Chinese economy’s gradual but steady slowdown, with a trend toward rapid aging well underway, and with the costs of the COVID-19 pandemic and its sluggish aftermath. Brought up to date, a newer disposition might go something like this: If you’re rich, good for you; enjoy, indulge, and don’t make waves. If you’re not, though, well, you’re largely on your own.
When one looks at the rest of the Chinese population—meaning the hundreds of millions who don’t live in the most prosperous eastern cities, don’t rank above the middle class, or worse, live in the countryside—the material comforts and purchasing-power advantages enjoyed by urban elites are shrinking or nonexistent. For many rural Chinese, the most economically vulnerable portion of the population, in fact, state pensions only provide about $25 a month for many retirees.
Understood in this way, my night out at the mall may have offered me the most distorting mirror imaginable about the actual state of China and its economy. Not only are people seeking to leave via emigration, but Chinese also seem to be expressing their feelings and confidence about the future in another, even more telling way: their decisions about when or whether to get married and have children.
Narratives about falling fertility rates have become commonplace around the world in recent years, but that only obscures the drama of what is happening around decisions like these in China. As the demographer Nicholas Eberstadt has pointed out, since 2013, the year that Xi Jinping became the country’s leader, the number of first marriages in the country has fallen by more than half. There were only half as many births in 2022 as just six years earlier, meanwhile, and these numbers are still falling. Not even the collapse of the Soviet Union, Mao Zedong’s Great Famine, or the genocide in Cambodia managed to cut the fertility rate, or average number of births per woman, by as large a percentage as China has seen during these years.
Almost all well-regarded demographers agree that China’s population is going to shrink dramatically over the coming decades. This, of course, doesn’t mean that the country is going to disappear. No society facing declining fertility has figured out how to reverse this trend. To even slow it down, though, China will have to revise its social compact yet again, doing much more to provide opportunity, affordability, and economic security not for the fancy mall shoppers, but for everyone else.

💉💊🗑️Addicted To Trash🗑️💊💉
Food scraps take up the most landfill space in the US. Think about that for a moment & process it. As much food insecurity as there is in the US. As many people that die from poverty & from hunger.
The millions of children that face an empty refrigerator & empty pantry every day after school. That don't have money for lunch and don't have access to a free lunch or lunch voucher program.
The parents that skip meals multiple days in a row so that their children can eat.
The sugar sandwiches, cereal with water, knocking on neighbors doors begging for food.
All so Americans that have more than they'll ever need can throw out more than they can ever eat while millions are food insecure and starve within the same country.
Buy loose fruits & vegetables at a local food market, buy food with minimal packaging, only purchase groceries & food items that you actually need & will use & avoid delivery, take out, fast food, fast casual, eating at a sit down restaurant, coffee & donut shops.
Per Google: Food waste accounts for 6% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, food scraps are the number one item sent to landfills in the United States.
Food waste accounts for 22% of municipal waste in the U.S.
We discard more food than any other country, even as the number of people experiencing food insecurity grows.
Food waste, which includes everything from meat and fish to fruit and vegetables, can take anywhere between one month and a year to decompose.
However, food decomposition can take longer in a landfill while releasing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
Americans are addicted & brainwashed. You can literally go days and even weeks as an American during hotter months without encountering air that hasnt been artificially cooled. Brainwashed!  Im 42 and my grandparents in rural Georgia that I visited and stayed with for a month every year as a kid didnt have air conditioning. Yet todays modern American life claims it isnt possible yet I did it for a month every year in my youth.
Per Google: Air conditioning, heating & refrigerators are the biggest wasters of energy in American households. The cooling industry is important, but it is also incredibly polluting – accounting for around 10% of global CO2 emissions. That is three times the amount produced by aviation and shipping combined. And as temperatures around the world continue to rise due to climate change, the demand for cooling will increase too.
The average American sets their AC to 68 to 72 degrees which is fucking absurd and ridiculous.
Set air conditioning to 78 to 80 when you are home and 80 when you are asleep and not home.
I set my AC over the summer even during the current heat wave to 80 — I dont have central air in my 1 bedroom apartment, I have wall units in my living room & bedroom.
Use fans, wear light/minimal clothing or go naked inside your home (Ive done this) and drink 64+ ounces of water a day.
The average American keeps thermostat during winter at 72 to 80 degrees which is fucking absurd.
Per Google: Heat and air contributing to nearly half of a home’s energy usage. Today, 90% of American households have air-conditioning. America is addicted to home heating and cooling, consuming more energy for air-conditioning than the rest of the world combined.
Keep thermostat during cold months at 68 degrees. Layer clothing and wear blankets inside.
Per Google: In the same report, the I.E.A. predicted that worldwide energy use by air-conditioners would triple by 2050, “requiring new electricity capacity the equivalent to the combined electricity capacity of the United States, the E.U. and Japan today.”
The number of global cooling devices is estimated to increase from 3.6 billion to 9.5 billion by 2050, according to a report by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the IEA.
Without radical changes to the cooling industry, HFC emissions are projected to contribute warming equivalent to 20% of CO2 output in 2050, the UNEP report warns.
However, some say that refrigeration could be the number one way to reduce carbon emissions.
Per Google: Much of the world’s recent growth in cooling capability has been an adaptive response to global warming. The problem is self-perpetuating, because the electricity that refrigerators and air-conditioners run on is mostly generated by burning fossil fuels.
Part of the problem with refrigerants, however, is that much of the harm they cause is after we as consumers have finished using them. It occurs out of sight, and so largely out of mind.
Roughly 90% of refrigerant emissions occur at equipment’s end of life, according to Project Drawdown, a nonprofit that analyses climate solutions.
The most common HFC found in domestic fridges is HFC-134a, which has a global warming potential 3,400 times that of carbon dioxide. A typical fridge can contain between 0.05kg and 0.25kg of refrigerant, which if it leaks into the environment, the resulting emissions would be equivalent to driving 675km-3,427km (420-2,130 miles) in an average family-sized car.
Refrigerators are responsible for about 4% of a home's emissions, or 89 kg of CO2 per year.
The correlation between growth in efficiency and growth in consumption is not accidental.
Similarly to air conditioning & heating, if you've noticed a trend, just setting the temperature a few degrees higher/lower can make an extremely significant difference in terms of energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions & your contributions to climate change.
Do people care enough to change their respective thermostats just a few degrees?
Set your refrigerator to between 35 and 38°F, and your freezer to between 0 and 5°F.
A refrigerator that's 10°F colder can use up to 25% more energy.
Ironically, as climate change progresses further, our home heating and cooling needs will continue to increase in order to insulate us from extreme weather.
"Ironically" or by design?
Home heating is the single largest source of power consumption in the home, and air-conditioning is the third.
Further, air conditioning in the U.S. accounts for 5% of total energy consumption annually, and releases approximately 100 million tons of carbon dioxide into the air.
When we asked Americans whether they program or adjust their home thermostats before they leave the house, an overwhelming majority (73%) said they do not.
The solution to so much environmental damage caused by Americans ridiculously blasting their central AC & heat is right in front of their faces and is blindingly obvious yet the mindless ecocide continues.
Why? Because you don't want to be slightly unfuckingcomfortable?
Layered clothing + blankets & lower setting central heat = Winter
Lighter minimal clothing + fans + higher setting central air = Summer
It IS that easy.
I do it every summer & winter in my 1 bedroom apartment.
Why don't 73% of Americans?
Because they don't fucking feel like it, that's why.
Avoid disposable products & avoid single use products.
Avoid ordering delivery & takeout & avoid buying food & drinks at restaurants, fast casual, fast food as it produces single use containers, cups, straws, utensils, napkins.
Avoid food packaging.
If you buy prepackaged snacks, consider making them yourselves — homemade granola bars, pop tarts, trail mix recipes, etc. can easily be found on Pinterest.
•Replace plastic water bottles with water filter + stainless steel thermos bottle. •Buy items with less packaging. •Purchase reusable containers. •Minimalism — buy needs only, not wants. •Repair instead of replace items. •Buy refurbished tech & electronic devices. •Go paperless - paper accounts for 40% of landfills in the US - 40 fucking percent!
Makeup wipes take 100 years to decompose.
Stop using make up wipes & use water, soap & a face towel instead.
Clothes can take up to 40 years to decompose!
Stop buying new clothes.
Buy used clothes only when needed from thrift shops, consignment shops, Goodwill, online thrift shops, Depop, Mercari, Poshmark.
The micro mininskirt I am wearing now is from Wet Seal and I got it when I was 17 over 25 years ago.
Outside of a missing button, it is good as new and I wear it all the time.
Tumblr media
Stop with fast fashion.
Stop buying Shein, Fashion Nova, Romwe, Zaful. Stop going to the mall. Stop buying Forever 21 and H&M. Stop going to department stores. Stop buying Macys. Stop shopping at outlets. Stop buying from Nordstrom Rack. Stop buying clothes on Wish & Amazon.
Use and reuse the clothes you already have.
When they are no longer wearable, buy used clothes only — never new — from a thrift shop, consigment store, Goodwill or Depop, Poshmark or Mercari.
Stop buying new clothes!
Batteries can contaminate soil indefinitely -- use rechargeable batteries.
Sanitary pads are made of plastic & can take up to 800 years to decompose. 800 years!
Replace sanitary pads with period underwear (I use Proof) with ob tampons without applicators (what I do) or period cups with a stem to remove & insert (boil & sterilize after each cycle) or menstrual discs.
Tumblr media
Pads & plastic tampon applicators have toxins, chemicals & pesticides that have been proven to cause excessive menstrual bleeding (heavy periods since 11 stopped when I switched from Always pads & Tampax tampons with plastic applicators to Proof Period Underwear & ob tampons without applicators), uterine cancer, fibroids, tumors & other reproductive issues.
Washer machines are also a problem.
Dryer sheets arent biodegradable — stop using them.
Doing laundry in a washer machine releases microplastics into the environment which ends up endangering, harming & killing oceanic creatures and polluting the ocean.
Handwash clothes when you can.
Do not own a washer and dryer as you will be encouraged to wash laundry more due to it conveniently being located inside your home.
Instead, opt for a living space without a washer and dryer (like my 1 bedroom apartment that Ive lived in for 10 years).
Limit trips to the laundromat to once a month or once every other month. Rewear clothing.
You dont have to “throw away clothes as dirty” after one use.
If it isnt stained or smelling, rewear it repeatedly.
Only go to the laundromat when you are out of clean clothes to wear.
I go about once a month to every two months.
If you already have a washer and dryer in your home, limit your use of them as much as possible.
Disposable diapers take 500 years to decompose.
500 fucking years.
Use cloth diapers.
Per Google: Yard waste is one of the top ten waste items in US landfills.
Per Google:
By weight, grass is the biggest component of yard waste, averaging half of all yard waste.
Leaves and brush each provide one quarter.
Either dont have a yard & dont live in a house as living in a house is itself wasteful, a climate change driver & overconsuming energy to simply even heat & cool such a large space.
Or if for some bizarre reason you feel you "need" a house or if you already own a house with a yard, do the following per junkloggers.com: When you mow, “grasscycle” by leaving grass clippings on your lawn instead of bagging then. The clippings will return nutrients to the soil instead of taking up space in landfills. Donate healthy plants that you want to replace to community gardens, parks and schools. Using recycled materials such as compost and recycled hardwood mulch help remove yard waste from landfills and reduces the “footprint” of your own landscape.
Follow the 5 Rs: •Refuse: Maximalism, consumerism, materialism & overconsumption, FOMO, sales & clearances, shiny new toy syndrome, shopping to impress others, trends, advertising that has intentional hypnotic messaging, includes brainwashing tactics, seductive messaging, endless repetition, psyops elements, psychological warfare to buy what they are advertising & selling. •Reuse: What you already have. •Reduce: What you buy & use therefore you will have less to throw away and recycle. •Repurpose: Fix broken glasses like I did, dont buy a new pair. I just bought a glasses repair kit for a few dollars versus wasting money on a new frame, new lenses & the fuel that would have been wasted to deliver the new pair of glasses to me. Repurpose gift bags & use reusable grocery bags as totes. Reuse junk mail and newspaper as gift wrap. •Recycle: Aluminum is indefinitely repurposable but takes 800 years to biodegrade. Wash out containers, check recycling numbers, separate items.  Recycling uses oil!
Keep in mind that Exxon and the oil industry relentlessly promoted recycling before it became ubiquitious because oil is needed to recyle.
Recycling uses a huge amount of energy and is itself a contributor to climate change.
Its important to do all five Rs.
Dont just mindlessly buy use throw away recycle like big oil and capitalism endlessly brainwash you to do. All those times that you threw trash away as a kid in school, did you ever think where it was going? All those times your dad took the trash out and left it by the curb when you were young, did you ever think about where that trash was going? Did you ever think about landfills? Oceanic pollution & waste? Air pollution & air quality? Non biodegradable waste? Greenhouse gas emissions? Methane gas emissions? Landfills burning? Mountains of trash? Ofcourse not. If youre American, it was, out of sight out of mind. Im 42. When I was in school playing sports, it was throw out the empty plastic Gatorade bottle and back to softball practice. Back to track practice. Throw away trash, return lunch tray, on to my next class. Mindless. Brainwashed. Addicted to trash. Air quality near landfills is also poor and can be hazardous to humans and wildlife. The unwelcome sights, sounds, and smells of landfills make life unpleasant for nearby residents and reduce the land’s purpose. Overfull landfills may require clearing arable land and forests to create more room. Mindless. Brainwashed. Addicted to trash.
Tumblr media
A plastic straw takes 400 years to decompose.
Did you ever think about that on your birthday at the McDonalds playground as a child as you sipped on your Hi-C Orange from your plastic straw?
Programmed.
Tumblr media
Plastic wrap takes 1000 years to decompose.
Do you think about the amount of plastic used to wrap bottled water, packaged items, consumer goods? Or do you buy, consume, use, throw away?
Mind controlled.
Tumblr media
Ziploc bags take 1000 years to decompose. Did you think about that as a kid in the cafeteria when you removed the PB&J sandwich that your mother made for you every day?
Brainwashed.
Tumblr media
Stop vacationing - airplanes, cruises & automobiles are enormous drivers of climate change. Stay local - go to a library, state fair, amusement park, carnival, museum, science center, have a staycation - movie marathon at home etc, take a local class - dancing, pottery, painting, etc., visit local farms & parks.
Deprogram yourself from the belief that you need to take annual vacations, summer trips, tropical vacations, exotic vacations or that you “need to get away” —
Get away from what?
Zombified.
Tumblr media
Avoid driving as much as you can. Automobiles and the fossil fuels to drive them are a huge contributor to climate change. Wherever possible, do not drive and use as minimal gas as you can. Walk, ride your bike or a scooter, skateboard, roller skate or rollerblade or take public transportation where available if you have to use a car try to carpool or rideshare. Question if you really have to go wherever youre driving and is it worth the additional contributions youre making to climate change.
Can you recreate wherever youre going at home? Can you watch the sporting event on TV, stream the concert, watch the movie when it releases to VOD? Do you need to meet up in person or can you do a video call on Twitch or Whatsapp if they are not a walkable distance from you? Can you cook instead of eating out? Can you take an online class vs driving to the class? Can you walk to a local food market vs driving to a grocery chain or big box retail store?
If you dont need to drive where youre going, dont drive.
There are millions of cars on the roads in America every day contributing endlessly to climate change so if you dont have to contribute dont and minimize your contributions as much as possible. If you can sell or donate your car then do so. If you live in an area with minimal public transportation, then drive it as little as possible.
Stop going out to just go out or socialize or be seen as its pointless & unnecessary.
Tumblr media
Do your hair yourself and/or cut your hair off (I shave my head bald every 3 to 6 months) & stop driving to the hair salon.
Tumblr media
Shave your eyebrows (what I do) and stop driving to the nail salon to get eyebrows waxed or threaded or stop shaping your eyebrows.
Stop painting your nails (what I do) or paint them yourself and stop driving to the nail salon.
Stop buying new stuff and stop driving to the mall.
Stop eating out and stop driving to restaurants.
Stop getting massages and stop going to massage parlors.
Go paperless wherever you can and stop going to the post office.
Stop going to bars and nightclubs, its pointless & a waste of time.
Eliminate bars, nightclubs, shopping malls, restaurants, movie theaters, hair salons, nail salons, massage parlors, post office, grocery stores, big box retail from your life and that should minimize the driving you do.
Tumblr media
Dont have children.
By far, human beings are the biggest contributors to climate change so why would you ever willingly produce one (or more than one) given the amount of ecological destruction & climate change humans have already caused?
If everyone avoided having children, we could voluntarily make ourselves go extinct and save planet earth vs the current trajectory of the earth being inhabitable within 100 years and then humanity colonizing Mars and then other planets then destroying those planets in a few thousand years then moving on to the next.
Wash rinse repeat. Stop the cycle.
People are financially rewarded for ecocidal practices so this wont stop so we need to voluntarily stop ourselves and stop reproducing and stop endlessly propagating our species — human — that has been responsible for over 75k animal species going extinct, the destruction of the ozone layer, climate change, greenhouse gas emissions, endless landfills, deforestation, oceanic & air pollution, etc.
Tumblr media
Leather shoes & rubber leather soles take 50 to 80 years to decompose.
Buy flats and wear them until they are unusable. Once that occurs, buy new flats.
You should only be doing this once every few years like I am.
If you stand at work, buy high quality sneakers and only replace when they are breaking down.
I havent bought shoes in over five years & sneakers in over ten years.
Cut hair off like I do and stop using any hair products.
I shave my head bald every 3 months and do not do any hair maintenance. I dont use shampoo, conditioner, grease, oil, moisturizer, hair wraps, brushes, etc and as you can see my hair is perfectly fine.
Tumblr media
Buy refurbished tech & electronic devices.
Dont ever buy new.
Look up cobalt mines in Congo and how the materials to make batteries for cell phones, EVs, TVs etc (cobalt) is causing a genocide in Congo as it is the only country that has this mineral so Apple, Samsung, Tesla etc desperately need it for their devices.
Look up the warlords fighting over these mines and the civilians being murdered as a result.
Look up the conditions of the cobalt mines — they employ women and children, no protective gear is issued despite them working in underground mines, no labor laws so they are working 12 to 16 plus hour shifts up to seven days a week exposed to dangerous conditions, toxins, chemicals with no protective gear, clothing or eyewear, they are worked like absolute slaves and are dying in these mines.
They are literally dying for your pink iPhone.
Tumblr media
Fuck IKEA. Stop buying furniture to impress people who don't give a fuck if you live or die much less what your fucking furniture looks like.
Per Google: Most furniture is made of non biodegradable & non recyclable materials like treated wood that can't be recycled.
It takes treated wood years to decompose, and any synthetic fabrics from covers or cushions also take a long time to break down.
A polyurethane seat cushion will take up to 1,000 years to decompose.
Only replace furniture if it is broken beyond the point of repair.
In ten years of living in my 1 bedroom apartment, I have only purchased furniture once.
Dont purchase furniture to impress people, for entertaining purposes, to keep up with your social circle, to flex.
Brainwashed. Mindless. Addicted to trash. Consumerist.
Overconsumption. Materialistic. Out of sight, out of mind.
Who cares if we destroy earth, we're colonizing Mars.
An 80 year human life is worth more than 75k extinct animal species and is worth thousands of tons of plastic that will take hundreds of years to break down in landfills and 6 football fields worth of forests being destroyed via deforestation.
Speciesism is cool as long as its humans being valued among all other species on the planet and even the planet itself.
Ecocide is cool. Environmental damage is whatever.
The destruction of the environment is just part of my brat girl summer.
Has anyone seen MaXXXine?

“In his study of [the international coffee] market, scholar Joseph Nevins finds that the big changes occurring between the mid-1970s and the mid-1990s are related to the “longer-term struggle over the distribution of income related to the crop.” In the early part of this period, growers pulled in an average of around 20 cents for every dollar of coffee revenue. They were aided by an agreement called the International Coffee Accord (ICA) of 1962, which acted as a sort of cartel plan, constraining and arranging supply. In the wake of the Cuban Revolution, the Kennedy administration supported the ICA and its concessions to Third World workers as a Cold War tool to head off communist onshoring in the Western Hemisphere. But as the U.S. strategy changed, the country and its free-market Latin American proxies abandoned the ICA in 1989. The results were quick: By the mid-1990s, the grower share was down from 20 to 13 percent. Roasters, traders, and retailers in the drinking countries improved their share from 54 to 78 percent. That big, fast shift was partly thanks to repressed grower wages, partly thanks to repressed domestic service wages in the West, partly thanks to consolidation in the industry, and partly thanks to new high-priced coffee drinks. Starbucks went public in 1992, and if it seemed to be growing like a tech company in the ’90s, that’s because both thrived on the same social changes.
“Worsening conditions for workers in Mexico and in the rest of the Americas pushed people north, rapidly increasing the undocumented immigrant population in the United States. The Bracero program was over, but the jobs still needed doing. Caught in between employers who were hiring migrants and nationalist restrictionists, the Reagan administration legalized a few million undocumented workers while increasing border enforcement. Even though the vast majority of narcotics came into the country via legal ports of entry, conservatives and liberals alike framed border enforcement as a central front in the war on drugs. Increasing the costs of crossing couldn’t stanch the increase of people—they were responding to larger factors: Out-migration from Mexico’s coffee-producing areas increased after the dissolution of the ICA, for example. This tendency intensified after the North American Free Trade Agreement went into effect in 1994, pushing Mexico further toward cheap manufacturing exports and cheap imported American corn.
“The glut of cheap labor and commodities in this period undermined labor protections in the center as well as on the periphery, and the United States lost union jobs at a rapid clip. Reagan undermined the bulwark of government jobs by bringing Boulwarism to the White House. His signature incident occurred in his first year, when he fired more than 11,000 striking air traffic controllers and decertified their union. To the press, the president quoted an air traffic controller who quit the union and reported to work as ordered: “How can I ask my kids to obey the law if I don’t?” Once again, questions of individual criminality put the Reaganites on firm ground. Organized labor took to rearguard action, holding on to its institutions by agreeing to two-tiered contracts that reduced benefits and protections for new or future members. Capital shook off the midcentury labor agreement like a bad habit, reducing its accountability to its own workers the way it previously reduced accountability to the broader communities. The second part didn’t require as many votes.”

Playing with a Coroner and a Detective is not wise - Skulduggery x Male!Reader Universe
WARNING!: Mention of corpses, cursing, mention of murder, insulting AND MORE ! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!!
Part 4 – China Sorrows
“Samples ?”, Stephanie asked as they followed Skulduggery to his car.
M/n looked at her and sighed.
“Well, please don’t tell Mom...”, M/n begged.
“Don’t tell her what ?”, she asked suspiciously.
“Sis...I am not working as a Marketer. I am a Coroner. I work with corpses.”, M/n admitted.
She stared at him in shock.
“And Mom doesn’t know ?!”, she yelled.
“No, only Uncle G knew, because he paid the schooling for me.”
She had a wide open mouth at that, gaping at her Brother in utter shock. All this time, her Brother worked on corpses and murder cases !
“That’s so cool ! I will not say anything. But expect blackmail.”, she said then.
“Of course you would use it as blackmail...”, M/n sighed with a grin.
Then they arrived at the Detective’s car and M/n gasped, already starting to gush about the model he saw in front of him.
“No way is that a 1954s Bentley R-Type Continental !”, he yelled in excitement.
“It is.”, Skulduggery said with a smile in his voice.
“What is so special about it ?”, Stephanie asked.
M/n turned to her with big eyes of excitement.
“This model was only made to the number of 208 examples ! It has a six cylinder with a 4,5 liter engine too !”, M/n gushed.
“I let a few things be added into it too. I added a Central locking system, air conditioning, navigation system and other modern amenities.”, Skulduggery told M/n.
He was bouncing on his feet, in excitement.
“I will never understand your craze for cars...”, Stephanie muttered.
“Sissy ! I only am crazy for OLD cars ! I LOVE them ! They look cool and not as stupid as the cars nowadays !”, M/n whined at her.
“What is wrong with the cars nowadays ?”
“Everything ! Even the smallest issue, you can’t fix yourself anymore, you need a garage for that and pay a huge amount of cash, for a small thing ! They all look the fucking same and they all don’t have sharp edges anymore ! All the corners of the cars, nowadays, look like someone licked on them until they were round ! Eww !”, M/n complained.
Then he pointed at the Bentley.
“This car was rare and hard to get, thanks to the limited amount of its kind ! And, to make it even better, it was one of the very FEW cars that looked good with round edges ! Also, the engines had more space in old cars. They had longer snouts not as small as nowadays and nothing was all somehow forced inside there. Everything had space.”, M/n added.
(For people who want to know what that car type looked like...)
Tumblr media
“Is that why you begged to have that Firebird ?”, she asked.
M/n looked at her offended.
“ ‘That Firebird’ ?”, he scoffed as he repeated her.
“Firebird ?”, Skulduggery asked interested as he unlocked the car.
“I call dips !”, Stephanie yelled and took the passenger seat.
M/n took the back and Skulduggery got inside in the driver’s seat. M/n buckled up and then pouted.
“What Firebird ?”, Skulduggery asked.
“She meant my 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Y82. MY car, that is currently unavailable.”, M/n answered.
“I haven’t seen one in a long while. I might want to see it one day.”
“Sure. I will probably work with you a few times, for information exchange, so you have a high chance to see it one day.”
Then Skulduggery started the engine and they drove off. It didn’t take long and they were on a road, which M/n and Stephanie didn’t know existed. So M/n asked him how he knew.
“I visited Gordon often, so I drove around here a lot and I know every corner here.”, he answered.
“Huh. That explains it...”, M/n said in thought.
As they drove past a sign that told them the direction to Haggard, Stephanie considered to just ask him to get her home, but she refused and shook the thought away quickly. That would mean that she can forget all of this. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity !
“Where are we going ?”, she asked.
“The City. I have a meeting there with an old friend. Maybe she can shed some light on the recent events.”
“Why were you here ?”, she asked.
“Pardon ?”
“Tonight. Not that we aren’t grateful that you were, but why were you near us ?”, she asked.
“Ah, that question had to come.”
“And will you answer it ? I don’t think you just came for M/n’s reports, for whatever reason you had to get these.”
Now that M/n thought about it, he sounded ready to come over anyways. Stephanie was right, there was more to this...
“I rather not answer that.”, Skulduggery said.
“And why ?”, she pressed.
He turned his head slightly into her direction. It looked like he had them both in his sight, with the street included.
“The less you two know about all of this, the better. You two are very normal children and tomorrow you go back to your very normal lives. It wouldn’t be good, if you two get even deeper involved with this.”
“But we already are deeply involved.”, Stephanie argued back.
“But we can limit the involvement.”, Skulduggery countered.
“But I don’t want to.”, she said.
M/n just watched, amused.
“But it is the best for you and your Brother.”
“But I don’t want that !”
“But it could-“
“No more sentences with ‘buts’ !”
“Okay, I’m sorry.”
M/n laughed at that.
“You two argue like long best friends. It is really funny.”, he chuckled out.
“Hah. Hah.”, she replied in sarcasm.
Then she turned back to Skulduggery.
“You can’t seriously expect us, that we forget all of this, just like that. We saw how magic was used, we saw the fire and YOU ! And we have heard about the war, from which no one taught us in school. We saw a world, from which we didn’t even know, existed.”
“Don’t you want to go back to your normal life ? It is less dangerous.”
M/n scoffed.
“Says who, Pleasant ?”, he asked the Skeleton.
“I don’t belong there.”, Stephanie stated.
“Nor do I. I feel so out of place in my ‘normal’ life. I am just very smart and no one else is. I feel like I never even dug deep enough to discover what else I can learn, that interests me. Magic does. It did since I was a small bean with the age of 6 years. Now I know it is out there, so why not LEARN about it ?”, M/n added.
Skulduggery turned his head completely to her and crooked his head to his side.
“Curious. Your Uncle said the exact same thing as I met him the very first time. Even more curious is that Gordon did tell me, that you, M/n, will want to join the world of mages as soon as you know it exists.”
Then Stephanie asked him if the things, Gordon wrote about, were true about the world of mages, at which M/n only laughed.
“I don’t think he did ! A lot of mages would have came after him, if that were the case. No, no, no. But he told me a few things about the world of mages, I think. I was never allowed to talk to anyone about it and I had to make a pinky promise. Never talked about it.”, M/n said proudly.
“You are probably right...”, she muttered.
“He got inspired by them, but he changed everything so much, so he didn’t embarrass anyone and he didn’t get hunted down or even killed for it. Your Uncle was a very great man, really. We solved many cases together.”, Skulduggery said.
“Really ?”, M/n and Stephanie asked.
M/n was in awe and excitement.
“Oh yes, you can be proud, to have had an Uncle as him. Of course I was involved in many fights, because he dragged me somewhere and just wouldn’t stop to get on other people’s nerves, but...we had fun. A lot of fun.”
M/n smiled saddened at that. He wished he knew.
The drive was very quiet after that, until the lights of the City appeared in front of them. The City was quiet and the streets almost empty. They drove onto a small parking lot, Skulduggery turned off his engine and looked at Stephanie and M/n.
“You two stay here.”, he instructed.
“Okay.”, the two replied.
Skulduggery got out of the car and not even two seconds later did the siblings also get out of the car. They didn’t tag along just to stay in the car. They wanted to see what else the world had to offer for surprises.
“Stephanie, M/n, I’m having doubts, that you respect my authority.”, the Detective said.
“Well, we don’t.”, Stephanie answered.
“You have to earn my respect, like anyone else. And that takes a while.”, M/n replied.
“Oh...well then.”
He put his hat back on and wrapped his scarf around his chin, the wig and sunglasses, he left out though. He pressed on the remote on his keychain, it beeped and the car doors locked themselves.
“That’s all ?”, she asked.
“Steph, not everything can be magical. That would be obvious.”, M/n said softly.
“What your Brother just said.”, Skulduggery agreed and then started to walk away.
They hurried to keep up with him.
“But you do magic from time to time, right ?”, she asked.
“Sometimes. Although, I am trying recently, not to depend on Magic all that much, I’m trying to deal with most of the issues, with what is in there.”, he answered and tapped his skull.
“There is empty space.”
M/n started to laugh at that.
“Yes, but you know what I mean.”, he replied a bit agitated.
“What else can you do ?”, she asked.
“Pardon ?”, the Detective replied.
M/n calmed down with his laughter and looked at them. He liked to be in the background. That way he was rarely noticed and he liked it that way. After all...he had bad memories of the few times he was in the spot light...
Mostly he got bullied, for being smarter, than anyone else in his school and for finishing his scholar ship and for starting work so early and all that. Whenever he was in the spot light, he was mocked, insulted, pushed around and bullied. He liked staying in the back and not draw too much attention to himself.
“Something, that has to do with Magic. Show me something.”, Stephanie said interested.
“What – a living Skeleton isn’t enough for you ? You want more ?”, he asked.
If Skulduggery would have had eyebrows, M/n bet, he would have raised them.
“Yes. Teach me something.”
He shrugged with his shoulders and looked at M/n.
“You too, M/n ?”
The boy was surprised that he was asked and involved too. He wasn’t used to people paying much attention to him. He nodded with a gleam of excitement in his eyes.
“Alright then...I don’t mind. I think it won’t hurt to do that. Two different kinds of Magic exist. The Alchemists do sorcery in one way, the Elemental mages do it differently. The Alchemists are more aggressive, their techniques show faster effects. The Elemental mages in comparison, I am one of them, chose the less spectacular way and make an effort, to control the Elements better.”
“To rule over the Elements ?”, Stephanie asked.
“That is a little bit exaggerated. We don’t rule over them, we manipulate them. We influence them.”
“You mean Earth, Wind-“
“Water and Fire. Exactly.”
“Show me, how.”
Skulduggery crooked his head a bit to his right side and the siblings could hear, that he had fun with this, as he “Fine then” said and he held his open hand out, towards her. She frowned, wondered, why she suddenly was freezing, and only then realized, that a drop of water ran over her face.
She looked to M/n and he was just as much, having small drops of water on himself, but he didn’t seem to freeze.
In the next second were, both of their hair, completely soaking wet, as if they just came out of the water with their head after a dive in it.
“How did you do that ?”, she asked as she shook her head and water drops flew in all directions.
“Hey !”, M/n protested loudly as he got most of them in his face.
He glared at his Sister.
“Biatch, I am standing right BEHIND you ! Stop spraying me even more wet than I already am ! I don’t want water from your greasy hair in my face !”, he yelled childishly.
“To your info, I showered yesterday ! When did you shower, huh ?!”
“Yesterday ! A whole damn stinky, rotting corpse fell on top of me, so I HAD to shower quickly ! It REEKED and had MAGGOTS, YUCK !”
At that Stephanie felt sick and gagged.
“Ewww !”
“Thank you ! Your sympathy is greatly appreciated !”, M/n said with a grin, knowing she didn’t feel bad for him.
Skulduggery chuckled at their playful banters.
“Anyways...I’m gonna guess how he did it. He manipulated the humidity. Which means he did Water.”, M/n said with a smart, know it all, grin.
He looked at M/n.
“Very good. That is correct.”, he praised, impressed.
“The first Element was water. We can’t split the Red Sea or something like that, but we have a little bit of influence about it.”
“Show me that with the fire again.”, Stephanie said.
“I am wet...Couldn’t have anyone told me that I am getting a shower for free ? I would have brought soap, towels and new clothes for that.”, M/n whined playfully.
Skulduggery chuckled. He snapped his gloved hands and sparks flew, he formed a fist and the sparks became a flame and he held the fireball in his hand, while they continued to walk.
The fire burned brighter and she felt, how her hair slowly dried.
“M/n, come over here, I’m drying you off.”, Skulduggery said.
M/n went next to his Sister and sighed as he started to feel himself getting dry.
“Wow.”, Stephanie said.
“Exactly. Wow.”, Skulduggery replied.
“Awesome. Thank you.”, M/n said, relieved.
“Were you cold ?”, she asked.
“Steph...I am a fucking AC no matter the temperature. I don’t sweat in summer and I don’t warm up in the winter, yet barely feel the cold. I wasn’t cold, I was just uncomfortable with my hair sticking to my head, face and neck. It is a disgusting feeling.”
“Ah- I forgot...”, she muttered.
“No shit, Sherlock...”
Skulduggery shook his head in amusement. They like to talk to each other in sarcasm and to roast each other. Gordon really knew them very well.
He threw the fireball into the air, with one quick hand movement and the siblings watched as it started to burn out in the night, until there was nothing to see anymore.
“Nice firework. The boom was missing though.”, M/n said jokingly.
Skulduggery laughed.
“Why thank you, but unfortunately I don’t want to draw attention to us.”, he replied to M/n.
“I had a feeling that was it.”
“What about earth ?”, Stephanie asked.
Skulduggery shook his head.
“You don’t want to see that and hopefully you never will have to see that. The earth power is a pure defensive story and is only allowed to be used at extreme emergencies.”
M/n was confused and concerned at that statement. Was it that big of a deal ?
“So...no stomping with your foot and making an earth quake, to destabilize your enemy ? That doesn’t exist in earth magic ?”, M/n asked.
“No it doesn’t.”, Skulduggery answered.
“Oh man... Earth is supposed to be cool and then you hear that it is the most useless power...”, M/n said saddened.
“It’s not useless-“
“You are not allowed to use it, besides it is an emergency case. Of course it is the most useless then.”, M/n interrupted the Detective with a pout.
Skulduggery was silent at that. He had to agree with M/n at that one. It DID sound the most useless ability. You have it at your disposal, but because of what it can only do, it is forbidden to be used.
“What is the strongest Element ? The fire ?”, Stephanie asked after a while.
“That is the most noticeable, that gets all the ‘Wows’, but you would be surprised what a bit of air can do, if you displace it correctly. Displaced air doesn’t easily disappear, there must be a place, where you can push it to.”
“Can we see it, once ?”
They reached the end of the parking lot and walked past a low wall, which surrounded it. Skulduggery pressed his fingertips on the ball of his hand, spread then his fingers and did a fast movement from his wrist in the wall’s direction. The air shook and the bricks flew onto the sidewalk. Stephanie and M/n stared at the brand new hole in the wall.
“I knew it ! Air is the best Element you can have !”, M/n cheered.
“Man, is that cool.”, Stephanie said in amazement.
As they continued to walk, she turned back around a few times to look at the wall again.
“What about the Alchemists ? What can they do ? Are these those people you watch in Ninjago ? One can do shape shifting, the other copy magical abilities and the other can use nature to his own needs ?”, M/n asked in excitement.
Skulduggery looked at M/n as he asked that.
“Ninjago ?”
“Lego Ninjago is still my favorite Series. I watched all seasons and they also have Magic, but they call it Elemental Powers. And they are all called there Elemental Masters.”, M/n shortly explained.
“Huh. Never heard of it before.”
“It is a great Series. Steph watched it with me a lot too. I guess I am a person that will never grow too old for children series and Movies. I hate news and other stuff. All I like is Comedy, children stuff and some murder series, like Navy CIS, Bones, Castle and Death in Paradise. News are boring and my Mom keeps me updated anyways. The reporters just babble too much in my opinion.”
“That is a lot.”
“Meh, Uncle said it was way too little stuff that I liked. Now, are Alchemists like that ?”, M/n asked.
“Kind of. I met a shape shifter and someone who could read your mind.”
“So cool ! I have decided, I wanna stay here ! This is EXACTLY my world ! I always wanted to be around Magic and work with it !”
‘Oh dear, what have I done ? Gordon you would kill me...’, Skulduggery thought.
Stephanie looked at her Brother and then had a grin on her face.
“Which one is more powerful ? An Alchemist or an Elemental mage ?”, she asked Skulduggery.
M/n scoffed.
“I bet it is Elemental. I mean come on ! They have FOUR different Elements they can use, while Alchemists just have ONE, as it sounds.”
“Actually, it depends on the mage all alone. An Alchemist can have so many tricks up his sleeve, so many different abilities, that he can be stronger in the end than the strongest Elemental mage. That has been proven.”
M/n stared at Skulduggery with a wide open mouth.
“B-but, Elementals have FOUR Elements to control ! FOUR ! How is an Alchemist with just ONE power, better than YOU ?!”
“They concentrate more on their one power and are more aggressive with it than Elementals are. It gives them a slight advantage.”
“Was the sorcerer Mevolent ? The strong Alchemist ?”
“No, Mevolent was an Elemental. It is rather rare, that an Elemental is choosing such deviations, but it happens.”
“How do you know, if you can do sorcery ? Can anyone learn it ?”, Stephanie asked.
M/n knew that she wanted to know it badly, but played it off as if that thought just crossed her mind.
“Not anyone. In fact just very few can learn sorcery.”, Skulduggery answered.
“They usually then gather at one location, so that there are, over the whole world, little groups, of sorcerers. In England and Ireland, as example, exist eighteen districts, in which only sorcerers live.”
“Can you also be a sorcerer, without knowing it ?”
M/n was concerned at that question. Skulduggery told them that it is most definitely possible. And Stephanie was saying it was sad, while he found it amusing. M/n scoffed.
“Sure it is very funny, to know that there are more mages out there, most possibly, and they never knew that they could have helped two worlds, mostly when it is people that just KNOW that they don’t belong and most likely decide to do suicide because of it, because they FEEL that something is missing, but never could find out WHAT was missing. Very funny. To die for.”, he told Skulduggery with a slightly agitated tone.
“Alright, when you put it THAT way, it isn’t that funny anymore.”, Skulduggery said softly.
“Because it isn’t ! Parents lose their own children out there and who knows why ! Many do it because they KNOW something is missing in their life ! What if it was a mage, that never knew, because no one could help them ?! Not every child that killed themselves did it from depression ! Seriously, and mages find it FUNNY ?!”, M/n raged.
“Brother, calm down.”, Stephanie said calmly.
M/n took deep, calming breaths.
“I am calm. But it is WRONG to find it funny, that people take their lives and die, never knowing that they could have changed the world. That they were maybe missing the world of mages. Who knows ? Maybe mages, that don’t know that they are mages, feel a certain emptiness and that means that their world is calling for them. They just can’t pick up on it.”
“I never thought about it in that way.”, Skulduggery admitted.
“Hah. Maybe you should.”
Soon enough they entered a story building and climbed stairs up. They followed Skulduggery until they stopped at a door that read ‘Library’. He knocked on that door and then waited.
“By the way: Even if you want to do it badly, don’t tell her, under any circumstances, your names.”, Skulduggery warned.
They nodded in understanding and then the door opened. They were let in by a man that seemed to be a bodyguard. They went inside and followed behind Skulduggery, who followed the man, for a while, until they spotted a female. The woman had raven black hair and water blue eyes. Then the woman smiled and Stephanie started to feel warm and welcomed, while M/n looked very uncomfortable.
Stephanie wanted nothing more but to be next to this woman, while M/n wanted to be as far away from her as possible.
“Leave it be.”, Skulduggery warned.
The woman looked at him and her smile became mocking. Stephanie stared at her delighted.
“Leave it be.”, Skulduggery repeated, firmer this time.
The woman laughed and shrugged her shoulders, but before she could say anything M/n smacked the back of his little Sister’s head, which she hissed softly at.
“First off: Hell no, little Sis. Second off: She is way too old for you. Third off: You are too young for a relationship. And fourth off: I don’t like her.”, he whispered to her.
“You didn’t fall for it ?”, Skulduggery asked M/n in surprise.
“No. Whatever it was, I didn’t get influenced. And thank fuck for that. She made me VERY uncomfortable though. I do NOT like her. Whatever she tried on me and succeeded to do to my Sister, she better shoves it up her ass for the next time, otherwise I will do something drastic about it.”, M/n said and growled at the woman.
The woman stared at him in shock. M/n put a protective arm around his little Sister, death glaring the woman.
“I’m sorry. I tend to forget, what influence, I have on humans. The first glimpse and all...”, the woman said with a slight bow.
“It seems to me, that you forget that every time, when you meet someone knew.”, Skulduggery accused.
“What can I say ? I am muddle – headed.”
Skulduggery turned to Stephanie.
“Don’t be embarrassed. Everyone, that meets China for the first time, fall for her. But believe me, the effect will wear off, the more you get to know her.”
“It will get weaker, but never fully stop. Right, Skulduggery ?”, the woman, China, asked.
M/n didn’t like what this China was referring to. He didn’t even like her, this close, to them. The Detective took off his hat, but didn’t answer her question.
“If you tell me, that you fucked this woman at some point, I will gag and vomit into your Bentley, Skulduggery. She ain’t even that pretty. She is more creepy than anything.”, M/n whispered to him, so the woman doesn’t hear him.
Skulduggery looked at him. M/n wasn’t sure, but he guessed that he was surprised.
China smiled at Stephanie, which M/n already hated, and she gave her an eggshell colored business card, on which stood a telephone number in elegant handwriting.
“Call me, if you stumble over any books or something, from which you believe, could interest me. In the past Skulduggery did that too. Nowadays not anymore. I fear, too much water has flown down, the proverbial creek. But where are my manners ? I’m China Sorrows, my Dears. Just call me China. And you two are ?”
Before Stephanie could answer, M/n stepped in.
“Her name is ‘non of ya business’, Toots. My name is ‘Joe Mama’. Now step away from me and my Sister. Ever heard about personal space and the five foot distance rule, Miss manners ?”, M/n growled out protectively.
China looked at M/n in shock and then stepped away from them. Five feet, while Skulduggery chuckled at M/n’s attitude. He really hated China.
“He is very overprotective. I rather not provoke him, China.”, Skulduggery said amused.
“I have realized.”, she muttered.
“You look almost, like that one Bitch that tried to sexually assault me, three times, in school. Be glad I just want you five feet away and not in the trash can.”, M/n growled out darkly.
“You were almost assaulted, three times ?”, Skulduggery asked.
“The whore wanted badly into my pants. She even wanted to force my family, to make me marry her, with 10 years of age. I was almost out of school too. Uncle said he took care of her. No idea what happened to her, but she just disappeared after that, luckily. That hoe was at least 7 years older than me too.”
Stephanie looked at her Brother in horror.
“Why didn’t you tell me that ?!”, she yelled.
“Because you were too young to understand. You were only six years old, Sis. You didn’t have to know.”
“What a bad woman...”, China scoffed.
M/n glared at her.
“You were no different near my Sister right now. Just keep your distance.”
Skulduggery sighed and then snapped China’s attention back on him.
“They are witnesses of how someone broke into Gordon Edgley’s estate. The intruder searched for something. What could Gordon have had, that someone wanted badly ?”
“You don’t know who it was ?”, China asked the Skeleton.
“Who the man was, is not important to me. I’m only interested to find out, who his Master is.”
“And who, do you think it is ?”
The Skeleton was silent and China laughed.
“Again Serpine ? Darling, to you, Serpine is practically responsible for every Crime.”
“Because it is exactly that.”
“Then why are you coming to me ?”
“You hear a lot.”
“Really ?”
Skulduggery asked her if China heard anything at all, and she replied that it wouldn’t be anything helpful, just some Bullshit she heard. After he pressed at that matter, she told him that she heard that Serpine was doing research about some Sceptre of the Ancients and that he was actively looking for it, apparently. He said it was just a fairytale, which already made M/n think that he might be wrong.
Then they were talking about what Gordon could have had, that someone wanted to steal. China said that, that is probably not the right question, he should find an answer to and he seemed to understand exactly what she meant. In M/n’s head it clicked, meanwhile Stephanie asked what that meant, on which Skulduggery just said that it isn’t important what they wanted to steal, but what they wanted to have, that Gordon had to die for it first.
China explained then, that there are objects, which, can only be used and taken away from the previous owner, when they are dead.
“So like in Harry Potter and the deathly hallows ? Where Voldemort had a wand that he thought belonged to him only, but that wasn’t the case, the previous owner still was alive and with that its loyalty didn’t belong to him. There was the big rumor that the previous owner had to die for the wand to switch owners, but that was wrong, they just had to deweaponized them, which Voldemort didn’t know, and then he killed the person, he thought killed the previous owner. But it wasn’t Snape who owned the wand’s loyalty, it was Draco Malfoy and after he was deweaponized by Harry Potter, it belonged to Harry. Snape killed Dumbledore, who had the wand first, but Malfoy deweaponized Dumbledore, so he was the next owner. Does this make sense ? In order to get some objects, you have to either kill someone, wait for them to die or even deweaponize them, before you can own it and the loyalty of the said object ?”, M/n asked.
All three of them stared at him.
“What ?”, M/n asked.
“You understood all of this, just from a Movie ?”, China asked.
“Yeah ? I am smart, after all. I was a Potter Fan for a while, until it died out. Can’t stand the Movies anymore.”
“Impressive. But yes, that is how this works.”, Skulduggery said.
“Well, fuck me then. This doesn’t sound like it’s gonna be an easy case.”, M/n said and slumped his shoulders.
Skulduggery turned back to China and asked her to inform him if she knows anything or heard anything that might help. In which she asked what she’d get in return.
“If this all involves my Uncle, and you decide to not say anything, and I will find out about it, I might beat your sorry ass, woman. I might look like a weakling, but I can whoop ass. I will NOT hesitate. I beat a mage tonight already, I am not afraid to do it again. You get in return, a free evening and no ass whooping, how about that ?”, M/n snarled.
She looked at M/n and then at Skulduggery.
“He did that ?”
“Yeah, he was ready to kill.”
“He woke up and chose violence today.”, Stephanie replied.
They all looked at her and M/n scoffed then mumbled stuff under his breath.
After that they left, Stephanie switched and this time she sat in the back and he in the passenger seat, M/n looked at his watch, then choked on his breath.
“SHIT !”, he yelled.
“What is it ?!”, Stephanie yelled in the car, while Skulduggery stayed calm.
“I have to get my car soon ! I can’t come home too ! I will miss the agreed upon timing to get my car and pay for the repairs ! They are always so busy and full ! It will take me hours to get my car, if I come later !”, M/n complained, stressed.
“I can just drive you there.”, Skulduggery offered.
“You’d do that ?”
“Of course.”
“Great ! Thank you !”
“No problem.”
M/n told Skulduggery the address and he drove them there. As they drove, Stephanie asked more questions about Serpine and other things, M/n only listened partly to the conversation. He had a bad feeling.
“Guys ?”, he said softly.
They went silent.
“Yes, M/n ?”, Skulduggery asked.
“I have a VERY bad gut feeling.”
“Why ?”, Stephanie asked.
M/n looked around in the car and waited for something to appear. Then it happened.
“WATCH OUT !”, M/n screamed as he saw the car, without headlights, driving straight at them.
He took the wheel from Skulduggery and forced himself on top of the Skeleton and hit the gas, quickly shifting gears, to avoid getting hit. The headlights were turned on, suddenly, but M/n couldn’t care less if he was blinded, it was a straight road and the fucker came from Skulduggery’s side.
He was quickly in the fourth gear and was out of the way as the car drove down the road and into the mud. M/n’s adrenaline was way too high for him to register, that they weren’t chased anymore. So he continued to drive fast for a while, until he was calm enough to look into the mirrors and see no one following. He halted the car and then carefully went back into his own seat.
He was still pale, but he was calming down. Then he felt sick and slammed open the door of the Bentley, ran a bit away and started to vomit. Skulduggery and Stephanie got out as well. She was worried for her Brother, while Skulduggery was impressed with his reflexes.
“M/n, are you alright ?”, she asked her older Brother.
“Never been-“, he vomited again, “...better....”, he finished bemused.
“Who was that Freak ?”, she asked.
“The same guy, that intruded our house.”, M/n answered softly as he wiped his mouth clean with a tissue.
He looked at his Sister and then he froze.
“This isn’t over yet...”, he muttered in panic.
“What do you mean ? Your gut ?”, Stephanie asked worried.
M/n nodded.
“I feel watched too...”
Then there was a yell and it was the man again, with a few scars. M/n dodged him and punched him in the jaw.
“CAR ! NOW, SIS !”, M/n yelled.
She refused to do so. She tried to find out what she could do to help. Then she looked at Skulduggery.
“He seems to be immune to fire, could that mean he is specifically trained on that element alone ?”
“Yes, why ?”
“Water puts out fire. What if...”
“Water hurts him ?”, Skulduggery asked.
She nodded.
“Worth a try.”, Skulduggery said, shrugging his shoulders.
M/n landed a mean kick against the man’s shin, who screamed in pain at that.
“Just leave us the fuck alone you fucking creep ! Go back to your Master and live out your Master/Slave kink there, won’t you ?! Fucking curl up in a corner and die already !”, M/n screamed in frustration.
“Your Brother has a mouth...”
“No one ever could make him stop from cursing when he was pissed off or protective.”, she replied to Skulduggery.
Skulduggery then manipulated the humidity and water rained onto the attacker and M/n. The man started to scream in pain and, as the water became more and more, the man started to fall into pieces, right in front of M/n. He jumped back and just watched as he died, just like that.
After he was dead and only remains were left, M/n puked again.
“M/n ?!”
“Anxiety kicked in ! I’m fine !”, he replied to his Sister.
Skulduggery turned to Stephanie.
“Good thinking there.”, he praised her.
“Yeah, great thinking, Sis...”
After that, they got back into the car and Skulduggery arrived at the car dealer, whose garage was working on M/n’s car. He got out and said his bye to Skulduggery and Stephanie.
“I will visit a friend later, if you want, you and your sister can tag along.”, Skulduggery offered.
“Are you sure ? As we drove, you were very hell bent, to leave it at a onetime only thing.”, M/n asked.
“I have a feeling you two have a very good feeling, in this kind of work.”, Skulduggery answered.
“Well then, sure !”, M/n replied.
“I will join too !”, Stephanie replied as she took back the passenger seat.
“Alright then. Until later, M/n.”
“Until later, Skulduggery, Steph.”
Then they drove off and M/n waited for the garage and car dealer to open up, which was any minute now.
‘Just pay for the car, take it and drive home, then work on stuff until Skulduggery comes and picks you up.’

Summer headcanons for the elves
Summer festivals post
Autumn, winter, spring
World Building Masterlist
Obviously I couldn’t go through each group or culture so please feel free to send one and I’ll tell my ideas for them! I’m going to do humans next. Feel free to request for outside of Beleriand too!
Note: trying to determine climate in Beleriand pre sun years is an endeavor for another post so this is primarily post the rising of the sun
I like to use these posts to explore a variety of short world building topics that I can then return to and elaborate on as well as working out some climate HCs
In Summer when the ocean is calm, young children of the Falathrim and the Sindar of Nevrast are given their first lessons in swimming and in living by and respecting the sea that is so central to their lives.
Many youth of the Falathrim learn to sail in the summer, often upon boats they have wrought themselves from wood and flaxen sails and ropes. Sindar children in Nevrast jump from lower cliffs into the water below. At the Havens of the Falas, many activities move outside; the weaving of sails and baskets, stonemasonry, cartography and more are done outside in the nicer weather. Open air forges, rooms where looms are kept and other such work places are constructed specifically so people can work in the mild weather, offering more company and conversation between them.
The Sindar of Mithrim travel frequently in the mild weather. Their homes are constructed for sheltering from harsh conditions and they prefer to live out in the open more than their kin in Doriath and even the Havens. They have two festivals of stars, one of which is held near the summer solstice. Constellations are used as landmarks for meeting places and families often congregate together.
Summer in Doriath is long and green. The movement in the forests is unceasing. There are many periods of heightened activity, song, artistic pursuits, and exploration. It is not uncommon to go without sleep around the solstice for many days. Court in Menengroth is often halted for these periods (I always remember that detail in the Narn too, about Thingol and Melian traveling together in the high summer.)
I headcanon that elves have a specific sense for growth; they can hear and feel for lack of a better phrasing, shoots of grass growing, flowers blooming, roots expanding out. Not all are equally attuned to it or aware of it and some can become extremely overwhelmed by it if their ability to process is affected.
In the Dorthonion highlands, the summers are dry and often dusty. It is common for elves and humans to cover their mouths with cloth in windier weather. Many of the elves retreat deeper into the pine forests where there is more reliable sources of water and shade. A lot of time is devoted to the crafts and projects that can be accomplished here, mainly weapons manufacturing from conifer wood and bark, building shelters, and cartography.
Ossiriand rarely reaches very cold temperatures, even in the winter. The climate is mild and the summers warm but not oppressive. The rivers and streams rarely dry and the green elves of Ossiriand rely heavily upon them for fishing, washing and play in those months. I’ve mentioned that the green elves of Ossiriand hold farmers markets, particularly in Southern Ossiriand. These are most common in the summer months.

".... In a brief space I can only say that the part of life spent in Arbeit, the triviality of existence in a commodity market as seller or customer, worker or client, leaves an individual without kinship or community or meaning; it dehumanizes him, evacuates him; it leaves nothing inside but the trivia that make up his outside. He no longer has the centrality, the significance, the self-powers given to all their members by ancient communities that no longer exist. He doesn’t even have the phony centrality given by religions which preserved a memory of the ancient qualities while reconciling people to worlds where those qualities were absent. Even the religions have been evacuated, pared down to empty rituals whose meaning has long been lost.
The gap is always there; it’s like hunger: it hurts. Yet nothing seems to fill it.
Ah, but there’s something that does fill it or at least seems to; it may be sawdust and not grated cheese, but it gives the stomach the illusion that it’s been fed; it may be a total abdication of self-powers, a self-annihilation, but it creates the illusion of self-fulfillment, of reappropriation of the lost self-powers.
This something is the Told Vision which can be watched on off hours, and preferably all the time.
By choosing himself a Voyeur, the individual can watch everything he no longer is.
All the self-powers he no longer has, It has, And It has even more powers; It has powers no individual ever had; It has the power to turn deserts into forests and forests into deserts; It has the power to annihilate peoples and cultures who have survived since the beginning of time and to leave no trace that they ever existed; It even has the power to resuscitate the vanished peoples and cultures and endow them with eternal life in the conditioned air of museums.
In case the reader hasn’t already guessed, It is the technological ensemble, the industrial process, the Messiah called Progress. It is America.
The individual deprived of meaning chooses to take the final leap into meaninglessness by identifying with the very process that deprives him. He becomes We the exploited identifying with the exploiter. Henceforth his powers are Our powers, the powers of the ensemble, the powers of the alliance of workers with their own bosses known as the Developed Nation. The powerless individual becomes an essential switch in the all-powerful, all-knowing, all-seeing God, the central computer; he becomes one with the machine.
His immersion becomes an orgy during the crusades against those who are still outside the machine: untouched trees, wolves, Primitives.
During such crusades he becomes one of the last Pioneers; he joins hands across the centuries with the Conquistadores of the southern part and the Pioneers of the northern part of this double continent; he joins hands with Indian-haters and Discoverers and Crusaders; he feels America running in his veins at last, the America that was already brewing in the cauldrons of European Alchemists long before Colon (the Converso) reached the Caribs, Raleigh the Algonquians or Cartier the Iroquoians; he gives the coup de grace to his remaining humanity by identifying with the process exterminating culture, nature and humanity.
If I went on I would probably come to results already found by W. Reich in his study of the mass psychology of Fascism. It galls me that a new Fascism should choose to use the experience of the victims of the earlier Fascism among its justifications."

DP2 - Wandering Earth
Week 12:
For this week, I communicated with a member of staff at University of Reading's Meteorological research department and learnt what the spaces are in their research building and how their research is carried out on a daily basis. I also did a study on the Insurance Institute in the US which is a research centre testing the damage to buildings and houses brought by extreme weather conditions. I studied their arrangement of spaces and functions which is centered around a central axis of air movement. I also looked into some specific technical details such as the fan component and the fins which inspired me for the design of the testing chamber.
The key for next week is to do more research on the spaces I am having and arrange them logically. For now, I am thinking of having a intoxicating garden (market stalls) as entry ways to the buildings followed by a temporary buffer zone of plant nursery referring to the past; testing/research centre and laboratories referring the present and finally workshops manufacturing new parts for existing building as the research consequences referring to the future. Therefore I need to research into how spaces are arranged in labs, workshops and plants nurseries and produce a set of plans and sections communicating my design. I should do a survey on the buildings that are going to get tested in Newnham. I also need to consider how the facade can be reacting to different grades of tornadoes to make them more performative

Understanding Solar Panel Inverters: Types and Functions
The solar power industry has grown tremendously over the past few decades and is expected to continue growing at over 6% CAGR by 2032. This growth has significantly impacted the solar panel inverter market, which is projected to grow at a 7.7% CAGR over the same period. As a result, solar power stocks have seen a substantial increase. In this article, we'll explore the types and functions of solar panel inverters, a crucial component of any solar power system.
Tumblr media
What is a Solar Panel Inverter?
Solar panels consist of silicon photovoltaic (PV) cells that convert sunlight into electrical energy. However, the electricity produced by solar panels is in the form of direct current (DC), which is not suitable for home appliances. Home appliances require alternating current (AC), where the flow of electricity reverses periodically. This is where solar panel inverters come in—they convert DC electricity into AC electricity.
To clarify, DC electricity flows in a single direction, making it efficient for transferring power over short distances without significant losses. However, for practical home use, AC electricity is necessary due to its ability to travel over longer distances with less energy loss. The solar panel inverter acts as an intermediary, converting DC from the solar panels to AC for use in the home or office. Additionally, in an on-grid solar system, the inverter connects the solar panels to the local electricity grid, allowing for net metering and storing excess energy in batteries.
Why is an Inverter Necessary in Solar Power Systems? Solar panel inverters perform several essential functions that make them crucial for any solar power setup:
Converting DC to AC: The primary function of a solar inverter is to convert the DC electricity produced by solar panels into AC electricity, making it usable for home appliances.
Monitoring Solar Panel Performance: Most solar inverters come with built-in monitoring capabilities, allowing you to track the amount of electricity being converted and identify any issues with the solar panels. This feature helps ensure optimal performance and identify potential problems early.
Connecting to the Grid: Inverters connect your solar system to the local utility grid, enabling you to sell excess electricity back to the grid for a credit or financial return. This connection also allows you to draw electricity from the grid when your solar panels aren't producing enough power, ensuring a reliable power supply.
Optimizing Solar Panel Efficiency: Some inverters, such as power optimizers, help maximize the efficiency of each solar panel. Factors like shading, orientation, and debris can cause individual panels to produce different amounts of electricity. Power optimizers adjust the output of each panel to ensure a consistent flow of electricity from the entire array.
Protecting Your Electrical System: Solar inverters also play a protective role by preventing electrical overloads and short circuits. They have built-in safety features that shut down the system in case of overvoltage or other electrical issues, protecting your home and solar investment.
Tumblr media
Types of Solar Panel Inverters
There are three main types of solar panel inverters commonly used in residential systems:
String Inverters: This is the most traditional type of solar inverter, similar to a centralized air conditioning system. All solar panels are connected in series to a single inverter. String inverters are most effective in situations where all panels receive equal sunlight without shading. However, if one panel is shaded or malfunctioning, it can reduce the output of the entire system.
Microinverters: Microinverters are installed on each individual solar panel, allowing for more precise energy conversion and monitoring. This setup is ideal for installations where panels face different directions or are prone to shading.
Power Optimizers: Power optimizers combine the benefits of string inverters and microinverters. Each panel is equipped with an optimizer, which adjusts the output to match other panels before sending the DC electricity to a centralized inverter for conversion to AC.
Conclusion Solar panel inverters are essential for converting the DC electricity generated by solar panels into AC electricity suitable for household use. They also play a vital role in monitoring system performance, optimizing efficiency, connecting to the grid, and protecting your electrical system. Choosing the right type of inverter—string inverter, microinverter, or power optimizer—depends on your specific needs, including your budget, site conditions, and energy goals.

If Akio and Yuki were still alive in modern times, they’d probably like modern conveniences like the microwave for Akio (warm food no more cold food), and air conditioning for Yuki because summers had to be hot in an era where there was no central air and heat. They’d probably live in an older part of Sinnoh or even Johto if they ever thought about moving, basically Yuki can get away with still wearing kimonos! Also I just imagine Yuki watching tv looking for deals of the day for the market and grocery. And her being a full house wife searching for bargains and finding a decent price on a new knife set because Akio broke her good one by trying to cut through a thick bone in the meat they got from the market. Akio through the ages learning humans won’t fall for easy trick so as to study them further he gets an office job and learns how modern humans trick unsuspecting people known as customers.
YES YES Akio and Yukiko still live in modern times, i have decreed so 💯
AAAAUGHH you're painting a vivid image of their modern domestic life i love it so much 🥺🥺😭💖💖 i agree they'll absolutely love modern conveniences!!
I think after human-pokemon relations improved post-hisui era they'd phase out luring and eating humans, and instead find genuine joy in participating in human activities 🥹 also i think yukiko would try modern outfits to keep her illusions up to date while still cherishing her kimono as her original identity
And of course, they'll have to get money to afford such things, but i feel even if akio is smart and responsible enough to get an office job he'll get frustrated there since he has a more adventurous spirit, being cooped up in office doing the same thing every day would stifle his spirit 🥲 maybe they'll find other way
