#Chaos Emerald

This has been such an incredible year for Sonic and has revitalized my love for these characters and the franchise as a whole. Between the Sonic movies and Sonic Frontiers, my brain has been filled with nothing but this blue boy. I think the last time I actually drew him or any of the main cast was all the way back in 2013-14. So I thought it might be fun to use this wave in inspiration and make multiple character sketch sheets as practice since I’m a little rusty with these guys. It was very cathartic to focus on something different away from my personal project work and I plan to do either Super Sonic or Tails next. :)

Manga - Sonic Superstars [Sonic Supertars Start Book]

Este manga forma parte del libro Sonic Superstars Start Book entregado a los asistentes del Tokyo Game Show 2023 que se acercaran al puesto de SEGA para probar el juego.

El libro cuenta con este manga que forma parte del prólogo del juego, hecho por Sanpo Yokoi y también cuenta con info sobre el juego y más viñetas cómicas en forma de manga 4koma que se liberarán más tarde.

I'm running low on Rouge pins, I'm debating whether it's worthwhile restocking the originals, or doing a Heroes variant, seeing as I've now got the Chaotix on the way and potentially looking at Cream, Omega and MAYBEEE Neo Metal in the not too distant future...

Late birthday gift for a friend of mine! She happens to do modeling on the side and I asked previously if I could use her photos as reference to draw a few sonic characters in some of her outfits in the future. Been having a lot of fun doing these grayscale character sketches. Below is the reference image for this dress:

I was hardcore in the “Chaos Emeralds being from outer space is stupid” camp. And I say this thinking that it’s really not a big deal and doesn’t affect my love of the material. (I love Flynn’s writing.)

However.

Upon further introspection: The idea that the chaos emeralds have likely crushed planets and civilizations only for that cycle to continue with Sonic’s current planet makes way more sense. (And I’m suggesting here that they are older than the aliens in Frontiers too). The chaos emeralds are somewhat alien in nature. They twist things based on the user’s belief. They twist time and can help hop dimensions. You could argue they basically help users avoid physics.

I think that better plays into their name too. They’re chaos emeralds. They cause nothing except utter chaos positive or negative. And maybe it’s just my deep love for “spacey existential the universe is bigger than you can even conceive mortal” crap but I like to think about the effect its had on Sonic’s broader universe. And that Sonic and Robotnick are merely part of the greater cycle of chaos.

That speaks to me more than the local story gods making them from scratch and they’re fresh from the oven. The chaos emeralds being older than gods sounds better. I maybe even like the idea of them not being made by anyone. Universe just created them by accident. Which is chaos too.
