Cardio said my echocardiogram ultrasound, exercise stress test, and week long heart monitor all showed no serious issues, my resting heart rate is fine, but that my heart rate does seem to rise very rapidly under even small amounts of stress (postural changes, taking stairs, casually walking around my house) and rises very high (160+ bpm according to the monitor) so now I get to be put on beta blockers to see if they work and if they do she said that is sufficient evidence to confirm for sure that it's POTS.
Obviously could confirm it as well with a tilt table test but those are TORTURE based off what I've heard from fellow POTSies so I am very thankful that she doesn't think that's necessary and will not be making me do one.

#fun story: in 2018 we went to interview ex-president jimmy carter#and I had a bit of an odd feeling in my throat#august 24 2018 i remember that date well#because that was the first signs of an illness that annihilated me#i blacked out for most of the month of september- i only have very sparse memories#i had a strange kind of pneumonia the doctor hadn't seen before#and over those 6-7 months they threw every single anti-anything they could at me#IDK if I slept so well because of the knockout effects of all the antibiotics and antivirals#or because I had a recurring fever and a chronic brutal cough for 6-7 months and was terribly weak by the end#but i was sleeping so deeply the more pills they added#and now i know i can function with a 102 fever on and off for months on end#everyone- family and coworkers- also made fun of me for insisting on wearing a mask but guess what bitches#when the pandemic rolled around i still had 2 unopened boxes from being sick a year before and those were worth more than toilet paper#lita#love in the air#prapai#sky#prapaisky#true facts: I don't remember writing one of my own fics#it was during the blackout month and i refuse to read it because i think it's funnier that i don't know what it's about#i also had to work- it was one of our biggest events that we do every 4 years#two weeks straight of 14 hour days with no weekends#and i was there every single day#i have no memory whatsoever and when we did the event again in 2022 the organizers kept saying 'oh wow you're alive!'#i like to say i had the BEST time because it's a tedious af event and everyone is surly by the end#but from MY pov i was trapped in dense fog and couldn't breathe; trapped in that twilight feeling when you're neither awake nor unconscious#and then when it passed I had a nice paycheck in my account without any of the mental strain of working for it

Endlessly Funny
Some story: “And this character was sick, all the time. For years. You might even say chronically so. These are their symptoms. Oh look, the symptoms are flaring up again!”
People doing reviews, summaries, & commentaries online: “WHY IS THIS CHARACTER SO CASUAL ABOUT THEIR SYMPTOMS?! SHOULDN’T THEY BE FREAKING OUT RIGHT NOW?!?!”

realized I'm in a constant state of "Overwhelmed" because today I left my room and immediately got asked to do more than 1 thing for others and it sent me into legitimate fight or flight
have you ever been so burnt out that the thought of doing anything causes your ashes to light on fire all over again

there’s so much i wanna do this week/month/etc but i’m just too sick, i have no energy, i can’t sleep, i’m constantly nauseous and headachey and on the verge of a migraine, i’m stressed and irritable and impatient and panicky…….how tf did i survive nearly 5 years of high school untreated if i can’t even manage this when i don’t have any major obligations rn
#at least i finally got my meds so hopefully i feel a little better soon#although i’m now on 20 pills per day which is Just Great#whenever i’m in remission it’s nice to just. forget sometimes that this can happen at any time#kinda wish i had the typical kinda chronic illness that people talk about with ‘flares’#or at least triggers that i can plan around#the other times have all had an easily identifiable stressor tho tbf. idk what caused this one#the first time was whooping cough and the next few were all very major life stressors like my cat dying right after i started uni#and i think also towards the end of my honours thesis?#but this…….there’s no major stress right now. nothing wildly beyond normal#i’m a little concerned about my joints tho. they’ve been so much worse than normal the last few months#so i’m kinda worried i’m developing rheumatoid arthritis (also an autoimmune disease and it runs in the family specifically)#so if that’s happening then it could set my thyroid off? probably should get to the doctor at some point#obv i’m seeing my endo for thyroid stuff. but i should see my gp and get her to run all the autoimmune blood tests again#i’ve done that before but it’s been a few years and my ankles and knees are so painful i can’t even walk properly a lot of the time#BUT I JUST WANNA DO THINGS I ENJOY AND I CANT AND I WILL CONTINUE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IT#‘oh you’re so lucky you don’t have as many obligations because you’re chronically ill’ ha ha ha please swap lives with me immediately#personal#but seriously. i wasn’t diagnosed until i was nearly 17 and we can trace it back to whooping cough when i was 12#so it was the last half of year 6 and then all of years 7-10 and the start of year 11 of just being. uh. ‘very lazy and complaining a lot’#and TEACHERS joking about me and my sister (who was dealing with an arguably more severe undiagnosed disease) missing so many classes#wow so funny pdhpe teacher who’s supposed to be teaching is about health#and the thing with being a mentally ill teenager is that hyperthyroidism can just look like a very severe anxiety disorder#so i didn’t go to the dr until i was too sick to go to school at all. and luckily had a good dr who did a blood test#i’m just rambling now because i can’t sleep and i don’t wanna lie here doing nothing#might go play pvz or something. that’s been keeping me entertained

Diagnostic Tests for Chronic Cough in Smokers: What to Expect
When dealing with chronic cough in smokers, diagnostic tests play a crucial role in identifying underlying causes and guiding effective treatment strategies. A pulmonologist in Jaipur like Dr. Pankaj Gulati at Breath Clinic is instrumental in conducting these tests to provide accurate diagnoses and personalized care.
Tumblr media
Initial Evaluation: Upon visiting a chronic cough doctor near me, such as Dr. Pankaj Gulati, patients can expect a comprehensive evaluation of their medical history and current symptoms. This initial assessment helps to understand the duration and characteristics of the cough, any associated symptoms like sputum production or shortness of breath, and smoking history—all crucial factors in determining the appropriate diagnostic approach.
Common Diagnostic Tests:
Spirometry: This non-invasive test measures lung function, assessing how well the lungs work by measuring airflow rates and volumes. It helps identify airflow obstruction typical in conditions like COPD.
Chest X-ray: X-rays provide images of the lungs, helping to detect abnormalities such as tumors, infections, or structural issues like bronchiectasis.
CT Scan: Computed tomography scans offer detailed cross-sectional images of the lungs, providing more information than X-rays and helping to detect smaller lesions or abnormalities not visible on standard X-rays.
Bronchoscopy: In cases requiring a closer look inside the airways, a bronchoscopy may be performed. This procedure involves inserting a flexible tube with a camera through the nose or mouth to examine the airways and collect tissue samples if needed for further analysis.
Sputum Culture and Analysis: Analyzing sputum (mucus coughed up from the lungs) can help identify infections, bacteria, or other microorganisms causing respiratory symptoms.
Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs): These tests assess lung function comprehensively, including lung capacity, gas exchange, and responsiveness to medications. They provide valuable insights into respiratory health and help guide treatment decisions.
Importance of Timely Diagnosis: Prompt diagnosis of chronic cough in smokers is critical to initiating appropriate treatment and preventing potential complications such as lung damage or progression to more severe respiratory conditions. A pulmonologist in Jaipur like Dr. Pankaj Gulati ensures thorough evaluation and interpretation of diagnostic tests, offering patients personalized care plans tailored to their specific needs and health goals.
Patient-Centered Approach: Dr. Pankaj Gulati emphasizes a patient-centered approach, involving patients in decision-making and educating them about their condition and treatment options. This collaborative effort ensures that individuals understand the diagnostic process, feel empowered in managing their health, and receive the best possible care to address their chronic cough effectively.
In conclusion, diagnostic tests for chronic cough in smokers are diverse and aim to uncover the root cause of respiratory symptoms. Consulting a skilled chronic cough doctor near me like Dr. Pankaj Gulati at Breath Clinic in Jaipur ensures comprehensive evaluation and personalized treatment plans, leading to better outcomes and improved respiratory health for patients dealing with this challenging condition.

The pandemic is not over. I’m immunocompromised and so is my girlfriend. We are in our 20s. We wear masks every time we go out, which is usually to a doctor. I’ve noticed that so many people in the US want to act like the pandemic never happened and the visual of a person wearing a mask makes them recoil. There are people who go so far to discriminate against us because we try to keep safe and that makes them uncomfortable (in a blue state even).
Yesterday at the dentist an old man coughed at us. When I was retrieving my stolen car at a compound the person who had my car told me to not wear my mask. The first day I moved here someone drove up to me in my apartment parking and coughed on me as well.
Before my girlfriend and I moved we were living at her parents in a red state. It was a bad situation and her parents lied to us when they had Covid. We both got it right before we had to leave. We’re still feeling the long term affects in our chronic illnesses.
What we face as disabled people is an onslaught of aggression for our existence because able bodied people are scared to be like us. They tell us we are crazy so they can go about their lives like we don’t exist or the dangers that threaten our well-being don’t exist.
What I’m saying is that I won’t compromise my safety for other’s comfort. I don’t wear masks to shame other people or to make a political statement, I just don’t want to get sick. That’s my business and my right. The world would be safer for disabled people if everyone wore KN95 masks too, and if you decide to wear it I’m grateful. But at the very least I just want people to stop stifling us and the truth. We are still in a pandemic and thousands of people are still dying from Covid. I’m still wearing a mask even if it isolates me socially from others. I have to.
