Updated "The Puppet and the Key" chapter 17! This story is the second on in my "Phantom in the MCU" series. Many thanks to @phantomtwitch for the encouragement to post more of this story!
Summary of "The Puppet and the Key": Danny is growing up, and facing off against foes that are much stronger than himself. (Freakshow, anyone?) With the support of his family and team, he steps into the role that fate has for him.
Summary of TPatK, chapter 17: Danny is taken to the Far Frozen for treatment. There he meets Frostbite, the Leader of the Ice Yetis, who offers him training with his ever-developing ice-powers.
Teaser:
Wulf stared at his no-longer-a-cub with a small smile. *Your ghost half is maturing, at last!* He finally said. *I was unsure if it ever would because of your human side.* The full ghost walked behind the barrier just in time to be hit by one of Danny’s sneezes. His green fur frosted over with the temperature of the blast. *It appears that your Ice Core is getting much stronger.* He went intangible and the ice fell to the floor. The ghost returned to solid form. *I am afraid that no one else in our clan has an ice core—they are exceedingly rare outside of the Far Frozen.*
*The Far Frozen?* Maddie asked.
*The Far Frozen is when the Ice Yetis live. They have ice cores. I am afraid that they are the only ones who can help you with this transition.*
*How do I get there? You’ve shown me many places in the Zone, but not the Far Frozen. Why?*
*They are wary of outsiders, but I have an acquaintance who is a border guard there. If I can find him, he will lead us to his leader, Frostbite. The ghost is kind-hearted in regards to young ghosts. He will help you.* He touched the halfa’s arm in pride. *My cub is a cub no longer. Can you transform?*
Danny nodded and got out of the bed. He was wearing simple pair of sweats. When he shifted to ghost form, he was out of his armor, and wearing his traditional jumpsuit. He briefly felt something cold against his chest, but when he reached for it, it disappeared. Maddie gasped and he instantly forgot what he was doing. He followed his mother’s gaze and looked down at himself. Instead of dark tan, his skin had taken on a more blueish hue, and his nails were longer and sharper. His ears were tapered, and he was also noticeably more muscular than he had been just the week before. The jumpsuit was now too small, so it fit him like a second skin. It highlighted his new physique. *You are growing nicely, wolfkin.* The ghost remarked.
Maddie looked at her son with concern. *Your eyes—they’re changing color and flickering from green to blue.*
Wulf frowned. *Let us go now. Ice cores are tricky things—powerful, but tricky. We need to get you to the Far Frozen as quickly as possible.*
The werewolf ripped a hole in the space in front of him and Danny looked through. The familiar landscape of the Ghost Zone was marked by a strange tunnel of ice in the distance. *Is that…*
*Yes, that is the entrance to the Far Frozen.* Wulf grabbed his charge by the arm and stepped through into the green sky.
The pair flew for nearly a half-hour before they were close enough to be met by the perimeter guards. *Halt! You do not belong here. You will go no further.*

Transformation/spook AU (whatever you end up calling this) anon:
(this IS getting longer each time lol. thank god there's no ask character limit anymore?) yes to basically all of that, though.
honestly the group being regarded as a threat is par for course. (like, Danny was basically a public menace for a while even when he was trying to help, and even after he got more approval people were still wary of him.)
I like that all of them get their kinda community-specific side friends though. It really is nice to see them getting and making more friends outside of their usual circle. Tucker being a werewolf means his instinct is that he needs a pack, and yes Danny and co are his pack, but naturally I think he would also gravitate toward other werewolves, and they'd be his pack too, so de definitely has two or three close packmates that help him along in his adventures in integrating into werewolf society and also punching out bad guys (honestly? let's do more crossover stuff. Teen Wolf canon characters like Isaac or something!) and just kinda sympatyhize with him. I like the idea that at least one is his cousin, and a thought just popped up that one of them would also be Wulf's descendant (I'm imagining a latino/spanish kid, because of Wulf's Esperanto), and maybe the last one would just be some random (in the case that there's an xover, like I mentioned earlier, probably Isaac or a different one-off TW character).
Sam getting the animal companion though and basically talking to animals like a disney princess... she loves the ability, hates that she's like a disney princess now lol. And a "typical mermaid princess friend" actually makes me think it's basically mermaid Paulina, and Sam is both reluctantly her friend but also eventually grateful for it because it helped her grow past her prejudices against the other A-Lister girls when she learns how to see past mermaid friend's girliness too. I imagine this friendship happened because this mermaid cottoned on to the fact that Sam would become royalty soon (early on when she was just accepted into the clan and not really part of it or a leader in it yet) and decided she was both a good leader to follow (thus becoming a loyal friend too even if she was a princessy type Sam typically didn't hang out with) so she kinda just decided to help Sam learn the ropes and pull off whatever lake-saving shenanigans Sam gets up to every week and eventually they just become close. (H2O has a theme of sisterhood so I can imagine this happens very sweetly. There's also a theme of trios so there's probably another mermaid in on these shenanigans too.) That said, there's definitely probably an "episode" where the mermaids learn the spell to become temporarily human and do so and come to school for a while and are totally awed and naive about human culture and Sam has to spend the entire time trying to corral them into order and keep suspicion off them--and stop them from getting wet or saying weird stuff that would reveal themselves or her to the whole school.
I agree with the Spike headcanon, and I saw a few fics were she was friends with one of the other Weston brothers (which one would depend on the fic), but yeah aside from having very few human friends, Jazz probably also has the smallest other-friend-group because of her feared-and-disliked status. I can maybe see her showing compassion to a brownie or something and them becoming another sidekick-type friend, but yeah I don't think the other fae get close enough to her to befriend her. I do like the idea of her genuinely befriending Johnny and Kitty and maybe Ember though. (Meanwhile, Danny's other-friend-group definitely includes Dora and Sidney bc I hc that Sidney and Danny would become better friends after working out their differences, and occasionally Johnny because they seemed friendly in a couple of episodes. I can see him befriending Ember too. Just give Danny all the teen ghosts as friends ok.)
But yes I totally agree to Val being a forerunner superhero like Bats and Supes and eventually getting recruited by a superhero team. But like the others' communities not really interacting with each other except the occasional crossover, I don't really see Danny and co crossing over to Val's "community" either mostly because they ARE all busy with their own responsibilities. Aside from the "Batman doesn't want to recruit Danny because of his bad press" thing (which, legit, but I think at this point it's been years and Danny has proven to be more good than not, and besides Danny isn't the only hero with bad press so I don't think it'd matter much to Batman), Danny is on his way to becoming king, or learning to be one, or has already become king and is now having to deal with all the responsibilities that come with that, including taking time to study law and meet people and in general split his time between the GZ and AP. Sam is trying to save Lake Eerie from pollution and overfishing/hunting and the occasional ghost sea monster haunting them and other stuff, and helping rebuild the mermaid clan (which btw I think is less of a royalty thing and more of a chieftain thing? I feel like since it's such a small clan it's not really a kingdom so much as it is a tribe, so Chief might fit better than Queen for Sam's upcoming leadership role in this case) and in general mermaids like to keep secret, so I don't think Sam would opt to join Valerie in joining a superhero group to help them stay secret even if she could pass off her powers as a meta or mutant thing (though yes, maybe there CAN be the occasional crossover where she can meet Aquaman, should the situation require Val to call in some aquatic help). Tucker's responsibilities seem very local, and though I'm sure he'd be stoked and excited to join a superhero team, similar to Sam I can see his pack being like "no please don't, you joining will have consequences for ALL of us" so he has to consider that (especially since it's his family, not just other random werewolves, asking). I don't think Jazz would be interested in general (except for maybe becoming a superhero therapist), though Ellie might be (though she seems more interested in just travels than having responsibilities--also I love the idea that "no one is sure she exists" is the reason she's not really known to any community except the Spooks lol). So I like the idea of, if Valerie does take on the "protect humans from human crimes" role, it's something that's just for her for the most part and not quite the "package deal" that you might be thinking. She gets to have all the cool "stop alien invasions and international crime syndicates" adventures, and when she needs the occasional help from her friends, she can ask for it (similar to everyone else in the group asking for help when they need it too). It's kinda like Batman having sidekicks but they're not really seen as part of the Justice League, they're Batman's people who help him. The Spooks are Valerie's people who help her. Yknow? (but yes, when her friends DO get involved, they do write off their powers as meta/alien things.)
But yeah, Val being part of the Science Gone Wrong Crew. They can be part of her other-friend-group, but I especially imagine her being close friends with Blue Beetle and Cyborg? Just, yknow, similar circumstances. One is a superhero via a parasitic creature thing, and the other is a superhero by technology like her. She's in between!
Also, Wes being an alien is hilarious. Would he even KNOW? I love the idea that he would think he's human, all the way up until, idk, he completes human puberty and then has a sudden transformation and learns he's an alien because he's now starting alien puberty lol. I like the idea that he had an ancestor/parent that was an alien like that one person mentioned in the comments (it would really match up with the fact that the rest of the Spooks are half-human in some way too). Imagine the freak out. He would have A Journey emotionally and mentally trying to figure that out and accept that, and FINALLY realize why trying to out Danny and co is a horrible idea because now he's in the same situation where if he's outed Bad Things TM will happen. To him. He only half-heartedly continues accusing Danny and co to not seem off, but he's slowly letting it die down to make it seem like he's naturally giving up at least. The accusation that he's an alien, while frustrating that everyone believes without much convincing, would give him such a panic attack as he realizes the consequences of what would have happened had everyone actually believed him about Danny, because now he's worried about some government coming to kidnap him and put him in Area 51. Like yeah everyone's chill and won't turn him in, but the worry is still there because he has no assurance of this. I think this would be a natural starting point for him to join the Spooks--he goes to them for help about what to do about it and maybe someone to sympathize with him (Tucker being born as he is and gaining his own teenage transformation earlier that year means he's the most likely to empathize!) and also maybe get some help in case some government guys do tote him away, but of course this is after he apologizes.
Of course they do help him out. Danny suggests he uses his Cassandra powers to just tell everyone the truth and then no one would believe it anymore. Wes is just "that seriously won't work" and Danny replies "worked when I tricked you into doing it about me" so the next time someone cracks a joke/accuses Wes of being an alien, he goes full conspirator mode and says "actually I did some digging into my family history and I think I might be! Guys I totally might be an alien! Here's point A and point B, and how I connected them, and I have a whole powerpoint on it!" and. it. WORKS. Wes is so astonished that the immediate response is "oh ha ha, Weston, real funny, that rumor is last week's news, get some new material" or something. Wes wants to slam his head into the lockers, like "WTF WHY DID THAT WORK" and then starts down the rabbit hole of ACTUALLY trying to research his family/alien lineage to try and find out if it's a power his other-half species is supposed to have. (It doesn't. It's just a coincidence. It's funny to think about Wes spiraling like that though.)
But yeah I love this. Having an alien in the group. Wes doesn't seem to have any particular responsibility or have a penchant for fighting, and I feel like since he's the late-addition and not a close friend like the tight-knit group seems to be, that's fine that he's the odd man out. His responsibility can be helping everyone cover their absences/weirdness and be alibis lol. (Wes is not one of those friends who would step in front of a splash for Sam, or stand in front of a bush so Danny can transform with slightly more cover, or etc. But that's only yet. He reluctantly goes "uhg, fine!" and does it, and eventually he'll just do it automatically. Especially after they've started covering for his oddities too--only seemed right to return the favor.) Also given his drive for investigative journalism, maybe he's their go-to guy for general researchy things.
Honestly I would love to see sketches or anything of this whole AU/XOver thing. I feel like if it were a real giant collaboration there'd need to be a discord or something to coordinate lol. Or an AO3 group? However that'll work. If you do plan on writing any side of this AU tho do post it! I will be happy to give more ideas and stuff :D
the wariness will definitely be something they will always deal with, even once they're known as members of the justice league. there's just a darker edge to them and their past. and even if they establish a place in their individual societies, they still started as outsiders. they still associate with the other.
i ironically don't actually know teen wolf that well so doing that crossover myself is a bit tricky for me. but i don't mind a cameo. for tucker i was imagining a female cousin around his age and maybe a sorta little brother type cousin. like he's young and hasn't changed yet but knows about being werewolves and stuff and really wanting to be included in their adventures even though he's baby. i am all for a latino descendant of wulf and them definitely having a family reunion at some point. i also wouldn't mind having another girl who can kick his ass when he acts stupid. i think there's actually a pattern of toxic masculinity in werewolf media, sometimes as a criticism of it, but i want some strong ladies. my brain now jumped to ginger snaps, but those were a darker breed of werewolf than i really want. idk. we should also probably think of names for everyone. but i'll probably have and easier time naming them when i sketch them.
the main crew are definitely tucker’s official pack though, much to everyone else's confusion. you also made me think that tucker will have complaints about how everyone smells. danny smells like ozone and death, sam like fish, jazz like flowers but specifically in a way that makes him sneeze. he doesn't smell great either to be fair. but it is an ongoing thing. the main irony being that when he goes and hangs out with other werewolves, he smells like his friends, so he stinks to them. i think the fact that his official pack isn't wolves is one of the things that makes him weird for the wolves. they might be tolerant of other monsters but you don't just go and pack bond with them. keep your pack among the wolves. that kinda thing.
sam isn't complaining about her powers really. she loves purification magic and being able to talk to fish and work with underwater plants. she just is annoyed that being a mermaid doesn't fit her aesthetic. that she's suddenly spending all her time on the beach or underwater. that she's at risk of getting a tan. that her weaknesses are much more prominent on land than her strengths and that she sometimes ends up holding her friends back when they suddenly have to deal with her having a tail. i think at some point danny and tucker get her a tricked out wheel chair. explaining why she needs one is tricky, they've never been the best liars, but shenanigans can be had with it.
i was actually imagining the mermaid princess to be more like yue from atla than paulina. that might make her a bit to similar to dora. but again i see her having a core of strength and being incredibly regal and capable when the moment calls for it. i don't think she'd be as naive as dora. i see her as a very strong character but one who embraces and uses her femininity in a way that sam doesn't. sam might be for feminism but she tends to look down on girls who like make up and being pretty. paulina to an extent is pretty shallow but sam isn't exactly that deep herself. she could afford to be less antagonistic to the other girls in her life. so the princess character, i'm thinking merrin as her name, would be more mature than either of them. she matured under the responsibility and pressure she's under and really came to own how she presented herself. so she might look like a Paulina or Ariel on the surface, but underneath that is an iron spine and a terrible amount of frustration.
i think their friendship would be mutually beneficial. merrin might go into their friendship initially manipulative, because she recognized sam's potential to be a leader and thought she could get a break. so she would be subtly pushing sam into the roll in public and teaching her politics on the way. and that would make their relationship more contentious in the beginning. but gradually, as they get closer and merrin has more opportunity to loosen up, it becomes more apparent that the mermaid has a lot to complain about and they have fun bitching about things. sam's helps merrin work out her frustration and just have a life outside her duty. sam meanwhile is maturing about her female relationships, seeing the value of femininity. she's also using what she learns about politics to get her way more on land. passing laws that protect ghosts and animals and the lake.
you're right about them needing to be a trio, though i would argue the fish companion could count as their third depending on how smart we make them. but i suppose we could have another character. i think i mentioned a merman who is considerably smaller than sam but who's flirting with her a lot. he might learn to respect her and get humbled and more helpful as the story progresses though. like character development. he's also really scared of danny, who is not only huge compared to him but also a bloody ghost. wtf. for some reason i'm inclined to call him hector.
either way i'm down with the absolute shenanigans of the mers getting on land and running around amity causing their own brand of chaos and also encountering ghosts and seeing why sam is 'like that'. just having them in the school would be wild. the populars would immediately try to latch on to merrin because she's beautiful and elegant and mature. but she's also taking the opportunity to be immature and messy since none of her subject can see her here. so she's going to say some mean stuff and feel incredibly proud of herself.
aside, mermaids are also known for singing. so i think it would be interesting to have her accidentally pull siren shit on land. i'm debating if singing should be one of sam's powers. it might be one, but she refuses to use that power because her voice doesn't suit the kind of music she likes. she wants to sing metal or punk and she has a voice for choir. i'm also going to go with the head canon that danny can sing well and that ends up being some common ground between him and merrin. danny accidentally getting pulled into a siren trio with ember and merrin. sam and tucker having to break them up, because while they're having fun, they're getting out of control. i don't think either danny or merrin set out to hurt anyone but sometimes you join an accapella group and things happen.
i like spike, a lot. i'm a punk so having characters i con project onto is fun. i'm less inclined to give jazz another side kick though. i could see her maybe almost making friends with a brownie, and it following her home to help clean and take care of it, as brownies do. only for it to be chased out within the day by the pure chaos of the fenton security system. she was so close and yet so far. on the other hand keeping with the theme of jazz making friends with people (and creatures) aesthetically darker than her. i could see her accidentally befriending a dark sithe. a member of the court of shadows. like someone genuinely kinda evil, and who assumes jazz is also more evil than she is based on her power level. they don't help her reputation among the fae. misunderstandings ensue and yet jazz still manages to keep her head and be manipulative enough to escape unharmed from the sithe's manipulations and possible attempts to literally kill her. now i'm imagining jazz somehow inherited jack's oblivious plot armor. where she's naive and friendly enough, to just duck at the right times and dodge all shots accidentally. doyle is loosing their mind. i'm going to call the dark sithe Pantera after my black cat.
i could also see her befriending a pooka. i could see them as a mute character that usually only she can see. for shenanigans. she's not as close with them, but they're one of the nicer fae she's in contact with. the pooka also likes to play pranks and tease people, often invisibly behind their back when only jazz can see them. they go out of their way to make jazz laugh. they're going to be named harvey and are a giant rabbit, because references.
and yep, at this point, danny has been a halfa and hero for more than a year. he's teamed up with his share of ghosts over that year and has a lot of contacts and friends within the ghost zone. i could see him having another episode with sidney where they end up actual friends. now i kinda want sidney to reveal some hidden useful skill that everyone, especially his bullies missed. danny seeing past the nerdiness to the brave and plucky kid the sidney really is and they form a genuine friendship. bonus, danny getting a bit nerdier through proximity and tanking his own reputation in the process. dora probably doesn't leave the zone as often now that she's queen. but they remain good friends. amorpho, wulf, and cujo also count as good friends. i am into danny getting close with kitty, johnny, and ember though. i think it starts with him giving a bit of grown and letting them out of the zone so long as they don't hurt anyone. could also see them sharing music. danny learning the music from the time they died, vs the music he likes now. they're all kinda edgey just in different ways. i also want the punk ghost trio to be a bad influence on him, but in a fun way. because lets be real, danny has gotten really stuck in the goody two shoes act since dan. letting him have some fun and be a bad boy is totally valid as far as i'm concerned. also i just want him riding a motorcycle.
you've made a good point about keeping the human heroes as mainly val's thing. it's much more balance. i might have jumped the gun because, obviously, i'm a superhero nerd. you're right about everyone being busy as hell. i like chief sam but also like sam being a princess just aesthetically. she is going have to build her kingdom, and work mainly in the water though. danny becoming king is happening so he might also be getting training for that at this point, possibly via clockwork shenanigans which takes him all over creation. i know you said tucker is more local but i'm actually going to say that while the werewolf community is relatively small, they move around a lot. the have established territories but they can be pretty freaking big and they travel a lot within them. so tucker leaving town to interact with his family and settle things within the larger territory. which would also give him a larger opportunity to deal with other monsters. he's still the team tech guy though. probably doing some man in the chair stuff. you're right about jazz minding her business. she has school.
but yeah having them be her people and occasional come on missions especially when it concerns their 'thing' such as a rogue vampire or killer whale. val just being able to say i have a guy for that. and having this smug look. in part because she kinda has a guy for everything. her friends are freaking versatile.
aquaman: i can't settle issues in the great lakes because it's technically not my domain and it would anger the mers there. val: oh don't worry i know someone
some of the heroes do end up wondering why her friends aren't part of the league, but they have a life. i think there's a bit of irony in she almost never summons phantom to handle ghost problems because she can handle most ghosts, so the supers probably don't even know she's friends with phantom now. it would have to be a big world threat to bring him in and it would probably blow some minds. in the mean time, any of her other friends showing up, they leave quite an impression for how little they're actually around.
i also think batman goes down a rabbit whole researching her and her friends. initially it looks simple for jazz. ghosts are kinda while but he gets protecting your town from the threat. and her civilian live isn't overly complicated. she was a nice girl who's dad lost his money due to a ghost attack and she ended up taking up ghost hunting on top of a fast food job. she's pretty much a normal person as far as heroes go. but then he looks into her friends. and everyone has a secret life and just keeps getting wilder the further he looks because they're all chaotic and involved in things all over the place. danny is doing stuff all throughout time. that might actually mean batman doesn't put together fenton is phantom. maybe he just assumes phantom is his ancestor, and that's why they look alike. the lab accident and the ghost hunter parents is weird enough though....
actually! batman figuring out that the lab accident gave dany ghost powers but not putting together he's phantom. batman inviting fenton to be a superhero and put his powers to good use, unaware that danny is already a very busy hero. danny being too dumb to refuse because joining the justice league would be so cool. danny having to train his ghost powers in human form and getting a new suit and secret identity. val having to cover for him and finding this entire situation ridiculous. especially because he's going to flunk out of school at this point.
danny: do i need to graduate when i'm going to be king val: no one wants a high school dropout to handle politics. danny: the ghost zone begs to differ
it proves unsustainable and Fenton decides to just be her sidekick when he has time, but otherwise sticks in amity.
blue beetle and cyborg are a cool combination for her. not just because they got powers in similar ways, but also because they're all heroes of color. gotta stick together and have each other's back. just in general they have vibes. i also like val being half in love with wonder woman, because same. training with a strong female hero is everything to val. i think we also need a hero good at challenging her and keeping her level. val isn’t perfect and i think it’s be healthy for someone to challenge her decisions and stubbornness. she’s a little too similar to bats for them to disagree enough to be proper foils. i’m kinda torn on having her foil in the league either be flash or superman.
flash would be a good foil because he’s not really the type to punish his villains. he does his best to get to know people and help his villains get help. he’s a lot looser and fun. i imagine his goofy personality would get on vals nerves cause she takes her job very seriously. he’s also the result of a science gone wrong. he might be a little too similar to danny though. and on the one hand that could emphasis certain point and be used for jokes. we all ready have danny serving as a foil so it probably wouldn’t be as effective as it could be.
superman pulling his innocent golden boy thing though has potential though. they are so inherently different and sups is impossible to hate, so i see val struggling with the fact that she isn’t good enough. she’d probably enter a mental compensation with him. to be as good, to be as heroic, as him. and the fact that she’s loosing is driving her up the wall. especially when he comments about how some of her methods aren’t very heroic. she’s a fighter first and foremost. superman has mad a career out of pulling his punches. val has always been fighting extra hard. essentially she’s jealous. had the potential to let her grow in different ways. i think batman would point out that no one can match sups and that she should be herself. but it still niggles at her. sups plays oblivious but i see him knowing and just affectionately teasing her. she gets better about her jealousy. and even becomes a better hero from the prodding, but she has a mild grudge.
wes would get his own fic in this series of his adventures and the first half being devoted to him discovering his powers and facing the consequences of his actions. like the others would be all about exploring their different worlds and going on magical adventures. and then you have wes, going through a rough puberty and realizing he’s been a jerk to the only people who could possibly help him. fantastic. good shit. it’s a who emotional journey probably full of trips and hiccups and backsliding and denial.
bonus points if his older brother, easton, is in the know and trying to help and ease him through it. but wes is having a conniption because he 1. didn’t notice his brother was an alien and 2. his brother didn’t tell him this was going to happen to him. easton points out that it might not have happened. it skips a lot of people in the family line. it skipped kyle.
kyle is going to be positively oblivious in this. he doesn’t believe in anything paranormal. his brother being an alien is out of the question. it’s really a rule fo the funny situation. is he dumb? is he actually totally aware and just committing to a bit? is he just missing everything by sheer coincidence. who knows... but wes hates it.
so there can be some focus on the brotherly relationships. easton trying to be a good big brother but also being the type who explains nothing and who really doesn’t understand his little brother. kyle being affectionate and great but not understanding anything that’s going on. i think he would probably be the type to give good advice anyway. like the situations he’s imagining or even using as reference are totally normal and have nothing to do with the situation at hand, but is still somehow the perfect advice for the situation at hand. like wes ends up getting pulled into one of the superhero situations and meeting other aliens for the first time, and kyle just takes it as, ‘oh you’re meeting knew people? other conspiracy theorist. bro that’s great. here’s how you make friends.” and wes is going on a riff on how he has no idea what species they are or if there’s any sort of grudges or racism between alien races. and kyle is like “oh they’re foreigners? i knew this swedish exchange student. miscommunications happen, but so long as you’re both trying, things will turn out fine, my brother.”
wes is struggling. but so he eventually gets outed as an alien, and has his character development and panic attacks and so on. he’s a fun character because he’s neurotic enough to act in extremes. going into paranoid isolation, looking everywhere for bugs or white vans. and he’d be trying to train his powers as fast as possible so he’d have a way to defend himself.
when he finally goes to the spooks for help they present a united front, that’s both intimidating and pretty gay because none of them know how to sit like a straight person. i don’t have strong feelings on their sexualities, but not straight is a safe assumption. even works in with the history of monsters being used as metaphorical stand ins for lgbtq people. there’s narrative groundwork for it, and also i’m just queer and down for character i like also being queer. anyway, they spend a whole chunk of the night teasing him and making him grovel for all the trouble he gave them. they don’t make it easy for him and force a litteral verbal apology from him.
but they do help him in the end and relax somewhat afterwards. i don’t think they’ll trust him for a while yet.. he burned a lot of bridges and has a bed habit of not respecting boundaries. that would be an ironic way for him to prove useful actually. he’s stupidly good at observation, so he’s usially the first to know when someone’s or something is off. he is actually weirdly attentive and good at sensing mood changes and problems. like it’s still creepy initially. like why do you know how many times i blink dude? but still it proves useful over time.
i could also see wes, having discovered how effective his cassandra powers are, just... telling the truth to cover for them. it’s like, if no one’s going to believe him anyway, he might as well develop the blunted delivery ever and tell people he told them so when they finally catch on.
star: where is val anyway? wes: she joined the justice league and is away on a mission star: hah, yeah right, nerd wes staring into the camera blank faced and soooo tired
the sad thing is he might get in trouble for lying and making up stories. he is the most honest person in amity at this point. pity him.
his adventure mainly involves figuring out his powers, reluctantly getting involved with the spooks, and yes covering for them. he’s neurotic enough that i can see things getting pretty chaotic for him just dealing with his civilian live and being surrounded by so much paranormal stuff. he probably would be motivated to regain some of the friendships he’d ruined by being so obsessive. i could see him trying to regain popularity at some point, trying to escape the conspiracy theorist title.his relationship with his brothers and his improving relationships with the others can also be it’s own thing. now i’m imagining wes getting pulled on random adventured into the others lives (because no one else was available) and realizing he’s in way over his head. there are also several solid moments of “i could have died. i could have died so many times.” lets be real, if his friends weren’t heroes, they could all individually one shot him out of existence. that realization is only starting to sink in.
he eventually settles in the man in a chair role. tucker had started there, and then later jazz. they all have their techniques and such. tucker covering tech and hacking, jazz mental resources and emotional well being, and wes research has it’s benefits. but i could also see some initial tension. mainly because tucker doesn’t want wes reading his files.or messing up his desk set up.
i’d like for wes to eventually find his place with them, despite the rocky start. val would eventually start introducing him to the aliens in the league and they’d start trying to determine where he’s from and they can eventually have adventures with that. but for the time being, wes is his own worse enemy. he is his own antagonist and honestly that’s valid and relatable of him.
i don’t know if these posts have enough traction yet to produce a fic series and i don’t really want to put the leg work in for that. but i ma having fun just brainstorming with you, so lets roll with that. - Hestia

As they walked, Ingall sighed, “This may seem insensitive to ask, but were you a part of the raids that wiped out the Panther Clans?”
Wulf reflexively clenched and unclenched his fist, “no,” he answered gruffly, “the few of us who refused to participate had another task. I’d prefer not to discuss it, though.”
Kit's fur bristled at the topic and she couldn't hold back an incredulous "Another task?" the thought of a slaughter of an entire race called a 'task' thought she knew the wolf didn't mean it as such. She shook her head nudging Ingall's arm for him to tell Wulf about Meeka.

The Wulf's Eye: RP Journal #128 | Fresh Journeys
Tumblr media
I found myself in the position of a newly formed H.A.N.D, known as the Hydaelyn Allied Nations Directive. I was acting as a representative for Hingashi, as per receiving a letter requesting my presence. They started with a meet and greet between representatives of each nation. Thankfully I talked Eiri into accompanying me. While I work independently as a liaison for supernatural investigations and the co-existence of yokai, Eiri works with the bureau. The first meet took place in Radz-at-Han. There was plenty of people. Some with an entourage, some by themselves. Met a fellow from a place known as 'Tural', he called it as they say the New World. Met a clan lead from Doma that seemed familia with Eiri. Follow hingans. Thavnairian representatives. Though there was so much chat, we didn't get to meet everyone. Not that.. I wished to, to be completely honest. It's not my crowd but to have a place for our intentions may shine light upon importances with the otherworldly. The amount of times I've had to 'kiss up' to the bakufu for accidentally wrecking kugane while chasing off an Oni queen or a demonic bird? Yep.
Many things as of late, it seems. I'm still going through the last.. few piles of paperwork, whilst also managing to fit some side jobs and meetings. One of those being a new higher for the Moonflower Ochaya. She seemed very respectable, and based on her skill, she has much talent and experience. Silly.. of course she does. She runs her own ochaya. She's the mother of the house! It was admirable to hear, though of course.. introducing myself as a deity, she immediately acted with high formalities, but I feel I managed to warm her up to the fact that I'm quite laxed and casual. Though, she was adamant about bringing an offering to the shrine.. I couldn't deny it. It's strange, the title sort of rolls off the tongue, especially now while I intend to discover more about my lineage. Then I forget folks don't always react like my close friends, do they?
That, and I'm looking forward to performing my first Meimei Shiki for the Takara's newborn very soon. I've always watched those of my village perform it, though never did I think one day my good friend would ask me to carry it out as their priest! It'll be fun hearing about the growth of a kit, it'll certainly bring a lot of nostalgia. That's for sure.
---- SHADOWBRINGER SPOILERS BEYOND ----
Scilla ended up taking me and the boys to his homeworld, given they seemed curious of this place they've never been. That being the First. We had Haruko and Youta with us, thus Scilla started us off in Il Mheg. The way both lit up so excitedly was endearing, to say the least! Excitable kits they were. It was a whole new place, a whole different atmosphere. I've been a few times now, but it felt new all over again watching the reactions of my boys. By the time we got to Lakeland, y'know.. a place filled with purple trees and flora? We damn nearly lost Haruko all through it. We ended up making it to the Crystarium where I snagged a few history books to read at the inn or home. We even saw some of their glowing plants and.. color-changing mystical pears hanging from this grand tree. Ended with eating at the bar in the crystarium before we crashed. What a day!

Clan Wulf: The Bloodlines
Tumblr media
The Wulf Clan is divided into three separate families, each hailing from different regions some of that same nation some of others. Each family acts likes it own independent pack but when the horns of war call, they unite, sometimes with ease other times with tensions. Normally under the guide of a War Leader or of the Clan’s Grand Shaman. Those of the Wulf clan are commonly Hyur Highlander or Midlander, although the Clan is known in adapting skilled warriors, trackers, hunters and wise shamans into their fold for the sake of the clan’s health.
The Grand Shaman – The Greatwulf
Named after the first recorded shaman of the clan, a man whose wisdom, well spoken words and magic prowess aided in forcing the at the time twin families of the clan from fighting one another to vanquish a common foe. Now the title serves as the spiritual guide who travels between the families of the clan, offering aid in medical practices either it be of magic or herbal remedies, spiritual guidance or one to vents woes and worries too.
The words of the Greatwulf command respect as if it was law, when families of the clan fight or squabble he is the mediator in nearly every time. As well as it is the Greatwulves duties to work alongside the clans Warleader in times of battle or hardships. When joining for clan wide hunts, feasts and festivals the Greatwulf is one of those figures who helps direct such events.
The Greatwulf is chosen by the current Greatwulf, one shaman of every clan is selected and sent to the current Greatwulf. Then he gives the lesser shamans trials and tasks to complete to learn more of them. Upon completion he uses what he has learn to select his successor.
The Bloodlines – Families of the Clan
There was once two families that made the clan, a larger family that had split and migrated from one another. Although there is the addition of the third family that is now three generations old.
Bloodline of The Icewulf – The Icewulf Family, House Wulf. Is the newest and smaller branch of the Wulf Clan. Founded by the self-exiled warrior, Jorgen Icewulf. His mate, eldest son and many warriors of the Mountianwulf Blood followed him to a new home they would eventually find within the snow-covered hills of Coerthas. Under the service of House Fortemps and over two generations becoming a minor noble house. This family is renowned for their well-trained war hounds and the berserker like warriors. Although their methods and décor can be rather barbaric. From their practices, behavior in battle and attire can all be called into question. Even more so some of the rituals they go through to honor their ancestors or the odd coactions they drink before battle.
Bloodline of the Mountainwulf – The Blackwulves, founding family.  One of the oldest families and the self-proclaimed original family of the clan. Hailing from the lineage of Dag Mountainwulf the eldest son of the Wulfather, the original founder of the clan its families, and traditions. Much like their snow-covered kin to Coerthas. They are heavily rooted in traditions, but unlike those of Coerthas or The Fringes they have modernized them. Even more so with their recent siding with the Garleans during the occupation of their ancestral homes hidden away between The Peaks and The Lochs. Those of this family were either skilled, disciplined warriors or silver-tongued and sharp-witted individuals.  With the rise of Magitek and the influences of their time as Garlean benefactors many of the youngest generation found themselves to be incredibly savvy and mastered various technological advances, such as one of the family’s heiress, Aesir Blackwulf.
Although once the family had broken away from the Empire during Ala Mhigo’s liberation. Their once allies had turned on them, destroying their homes and ancient home of the Clan itself. Many of the Mountianwulves blood, or at the time Blackwulf family had fallen. Although with the ancestors to thank, there are many who survived or were sparred from the carnage. The last leader of their house is currently missing or slain.
Bloodline of the Treewulf – The Woodland Wulves, The Secluded. This bloodline of the clan is as ancient as the Mountainwulf bloodline. Hailing from the blood of Ivar Treewulf the younger brother to Dag Mountainwulf. The clan split in two after their father, Wulfather had passed from our world without naming neither of his sons’ heirs. They fought again and again unable to best one another. Bitterly they split the clan in two. Both proudly boasting that they are the original family, the original bloodline. Now like the other families, the ones of today and the ones they have outlived. The Treewulves bloodline has inspired and brought many great warriors into the clan and world. Normally in form of powerful shamans or quick, decisive archers, and hunters. Compared to the other two there are more shamans in this bloodline then the others, and they honor their traditions to the same if not higher barbaric levels of their Coerthan counterparts.
Interactions with this family is limited due to their secluded nature taken after the fall of Ala Mhigo, and when the Blackwulves of the Mountain bloodline submitted to Garlean rule. There village and home is known to few besides it resides hidden away, supposedly in the Fringes. Although they are one of the oldest bloodlines little more is known about them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Revamping the Wulf clan with the FC slowly coming back around the corner. This is the first post of many.

So like I've been thinking about @floralflowerpower 's Hunter au some more.
Specifically I was thinking about Danny's aunt and the things she did post Clyde's (and his other siblings) death.
Like yeah, the whole "throwing Danny and Jazz to the wolves" (kinda literally to) because it was "fair" was a terrible thing to do but I'm thinking specifically about what drove her to do this. Because it seems that she never really had much contact with or cared what Jack did, just that he wouldn't embarrass the family anymore than he already has.
I feel like the decision to basically indirectly kill Danny and Jazz was because of a dangerous mix of her resentment for Jack and how he could never live up to the Fenton name and the grief of losing her children who she had probably spent years training so that when they faced the trials they were entirely prepared. She had become the new disappointment to add on top of those two things, I bet people blamed their failures in the trials to her not training them well.
I'm also going to guess that grandpa Fenton "mercy" killing Clyde after he changed was probably something she asked him to do. She probably didn't want to see her favourite child, the son she had put so much love and hard work into to become the new clan head, be killed in next year's trials by the children of rival clans.
This train of thought was brought to you by me listening to "It's been so long" and going "yep that's Wulf's mom's thoughts post his death"

What is Wulf & Eadwacer?
Hello all! Rora here! Welcome to my new blog, a place to document and share pieces of my honours project. I thought I’d start us off with a classic introductory post.
Tumblr media
A little about me:
I’m a graphic novel/comic book artist and illustrator, Medievalist, creative writer and uni student. Right now, I’m working on creating a successful honours project to get a scholarship for a PhD.
About my honours project:
I’m taking an Old English/Anglo-Saxon story from over a thousand years ago, translating it, and transforming it into a graphic novel/comic for modern audiences.
Tumblr media
My thesis revolves around devices I can use to transform this dark ages text into something relatable and enjoyable for modern audiences (e.g. love triangles, fan service, feminist revision, magical realism, and mental health are just some examples I’m currently working on).
Tumblr media
What is Wulf and Eadwacer?
Honestly, Wulf and Eadwacer is one of the most ambiguous poems in all incarnations of the English language. The words can have many meanings, and the Anglo-Saxons love riddles... so many academics differ on what this small poem is about.
My interpretation is this is an elegiac poem about a woman who has been separated from her first love, Wulf. She is forced to marry Eadwacer -- a man from a neighbouring clan -- to prevent war. This type of marriage was typical back then.
Tumblr media
In the poem, the unnamed woman laments about her situation. She’s angry at Eadwacer. It seems they have been together for some time now and have a child. She alludes to Wulf being hunted like prey by Eadwacer on the island she’s originally from.
What I’ve further extrapolated from this to further flesh out my interpretation:
At the age of seven, the child is sent to live with the woman’s father on her original island. This was commonplace back then, too, as it prevented all the “power” remaining in one clan. It sounds, to me, like Eadwacer is hunting Wulf because of something to do with his and her child.
In my adaptation, I’m working from the idea: “how did we get here?” so I can start from the “beginning”.
Hope you’ve all enjoyed this first post (long, I know).
If you’d like to see more of my other stuff, you can follow my main blog here.

“chuckkle” i don’t know why but i’m just very hellbend on the idea of a reboosted Vlad that is nothing like Original Vlad
-So You have this sickly Vlad who been in hospital for 2 year fighting for his life after the accident, with his friend alway there cheering up for him and then in his final moment ,he die feeling love of his friend < a peaceful death make him free soul and have no grudge over Maddie and Jack>. -Then latter wake up a in tux suit buried in a coffin 6ft under ground with Blue Skin and comepletely bald <which is why he got so savy about his long hair and don’t like tight space>  -Unlike original Vlad, Para Vlad is a kind out going adveturous person < sortal like some one that would make sense for jack to go full idol over>. So when he get his new Power and no longer exist on paper, he just resume doing the thing he love .Become a Nomad Ghost researcher and have a whole Packer cover journal for it. <his journal base mostly on the info he gather from Ghost that he encounter on living realm, the man look like a kid in candies store when he first entered the ghost zone via Fenton Portal> -The journal series originally dedicated to ghost only would soon grow into a huge collection of paranormal stuff when he found out other mythical creature like Vampire, werewolf, gnorm,Fairy, mermaid exist,... and He started to recovered lost Knowlege of the Fenton Clan and Master clan regard Paranormal activity and practice Magic and dark magic < Sometime combine it with science>. +He help Ghost resolve their unfinish bussines.Skulker is one of his close ghost friend <it start off as Vlad getting hunted to be mounted on Skulker abandoned hunter shed Wall but slowly grow into Friendship.Vlad already help him resolve the unfinish bussiness but Skulker just chose to stay around as a ghost caused he enjoy hunting too much> + Like collect shiny artifact and shiny gothic looking thing in general <this is totally caused of Plasmius-the boy been to and raid alots of hidden acient temple as well as vampire castle and fortress> +Have Bad temple <didn’t really show this to outsider, if you are close to him or You frequencely fight him u would know, The Roasted Vampire cult of 2001 know> +Cursed in sweet if there minor around, Cursed like sailor If no children is around. +Consider Resurectioning someone that already pass onto Elsewhereness <Heaven/after life> is Insulting .<He can’t die You can tear him into thousand pieces and he would comeback the next day un-scratched ,which is why He didn’t res Ellie eventhought he know how to do it>. -Got into grudge with Vampire After keep foiling their Plan of resurecting their dark lord Plasmius or messing with their plan of rissing back into power over  other mythical Species  which latter redirected to wanting his blood caused it extremely poten <being a halfa and have second core being a G0 Vampire> to wanting to capture him and make him open the portal to Unworld  +Unworld is where Living Realm, Pugatory <Ghostzone> And Fairy world been banishing evil creature to for thousand of year so there is all sort of inhuman eldritch horror there, and vlad have natural ability to access the place and banish You to this dark realm <Unworld Halfa thing> -At some point he also encounter or know about the existence ofother halfa + Wulf a werewolf halfa <the poor boy die few year after vlad encounter with him but he become a rare kind of ghost that can open gate to Purgatory> +Actual recorded naturally exist halfa in Fenton Cland Grimoire due to naturally open portal. <short lived> +The cult Melty Halfa <imagine the danny clone but created via cultist dark magic method> -vampire and cult attemp to replicated Vlad power didn’t end well +Danielle <Ellie> Master: Lucky survivor of the cult melty halfa, created from Vlad rib and a vampire carrier mother. She lived and travel with Vlad for 9 year before dying to a mysterious illness <what vlad said at least> few month before her tenth birthday.  (Vlad could prob go on for hour when you aks about what Ellie is like when she is alive?) -Vlad: The Cost of Being Missed so deeply is the prices for Being Loved so much.  <don’t ask, losing bone and organs is regular for Vlad when it come to fighting. After he learn of the crime that is CMH and after Ellie death he Become less reckless and more of a long term planner> *Note from Vlad Journal: Halfa genuinly have very short life spawn as their ghost half tend to over power the living half leading to the death of the creature and instant like Me that perfectly dangling between life and death one does not over power the other is unheard of. <Vlad tell Jack and Maddie to spend more time with their chrildren is caused of this. He assume Danny to be a Short lived Halfa-No he not he is the immortal kind like Vlad> ..................................................... After Ellie pass away, Vlad stop with the Paranormal adventure and traveling or using his power as a whole. To just go low Profile and start as new life as a Freelance Wall Painter. Until by the meedling of a certain “Being” that make Vlad and Danny, those two that never cross path in the original timeline, cross Path . And change both of their life forever. -With Danny fidding some one he can talk ,vent to about life and understand his struggle. Someone who is there for him and just bring so much change to his suffercating life just by existing. -With Vlad finding back his purpose in life, reconnecting with old friend, restarting his old chaotic way of life. +He live with the Fenton now, right next to their bed, at the end of the hall is one of vlad magical pocket dimension coat nail to the wall surrounded and magic circle and candle to act as Vlad room> +Few month After the reveal that Vlad is alive, come to Jack accepting that Danny is a half ghost now and winning back maddie afection after she left caused of a bad fall out regarding Danny getting in trouble caused of Ghost Power.Maddie and Jack start back the whole Paranormal investigation/inventor thing up again .They want to see what inside halfa look like for a very long time but too afraid to ask. And After like week of them just nervously staring at Danny and Vlad. The one day Vlad just have enough go Well I can let you dissect me if You like... They do dissect session with Vlad being full concious to get an insider opinion and Info on Halfa Bio on Halloween night caused the kid would be out trick or treating. . <Fright Knight Version of Para>. And Danny and co just comeback into lab right after the Dissect is over and Jack is Patching Vlad up and just go. -um Uncle Vlad we “brorrow” one of your sword and accidently unleash an acient halloween ghost knight into the town and it now threatening to Take over the town  -You Did WHAT? Insert fire/ Pink magical circle and ghost laser here. With Vlad looking like a Bad Vampire mummy halloween costume lying wasted on the street bleeding out surrounded by the Danny gang with the Fright knight barely Escape Vlad "To Unworld You go” Beam fly away sworn revenge  <setting up for event that make Danny Pugatory Avatar Halfa becoming the new ghost King > ........................................................................................................................ To Who ever read this entire mess. I Kudo You for putting up with my bullshit.

Wulf grinned, “is there anything else you’d like?” he asked, placing his items on the counter, “ah, speaking of which, Ms Banī, who would I go to convert gems into G’s?”
~
Whatever Reila was about to say flew right away as Kagu was nearly bowled over by the sheer amount of love and attraction coursing through their Bond, “don't you move,” she all but ordered as she took out her phone to take many pictures. And sent several to Kit, then turned to take a picture of the others fawning over Bya’s makeover and sent that too.
"Well-" The bunny monster bounced a duster in her hand as she thought "-plenty of monster would be willing to trade but the value would vary person to person. Your best bet would be to visit the Spider Clan in Waterfall. They know the most about the value of things and though they drive hard bargains, they're fair."
~
Amusement echoed back through their Bond as he obligingly stood still.

1, 4, 10, 16 for holly or Wulf
i lovoe youuu <3
I'll do both!
How easy is it to make them angry? Do they show their anger or hide it?
Holly and Wulf both get angry pretty easy. Holly is the personification of redhead stereotypes and will shout how angry she is and let you know in numerous ways in case you didn't get the point the first time. (SHE'S SUPER CHILL ALL THE TIME, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!)
Wulf is absolutely feral and if you piss him off then you best pick a god and pray. Wulf will give off menacing vibes off the charts, and if he's feeling generous he might give you a warning, but after that all bets are off.
4) Do they have a happy place? Somewhere they go in their head to relax?
Holly has a physical happy place - home. She just teleports home away from everyone and all her troubles and relaxes on her treehouse veranda in her giant ass tree, fuck y'all I'm going home
Wulf just thinks about how soon he can go kill things as either wolf or man. He trains and does physical exercises in his down time to hone himself as a weapon.
10) What is their favorite moment from their childhood?
Holly surprisingly doesn't have a lot of happy childhood memories, she never fit in either the fae courts or the human world as she is both and neither. Her happiest moments were when her parents remembered she was there or the few, very rare moments where her father told her he was proud of her (those were so rare)
Wulf was happy as he was running free as wolf through the Old Forests. He's from a clan of Wolf Guardians that was under oath to protect those forests from time immemorial, even before the fae.
16) What is something about them that people would not expect just by looking at them?
Holly is kind of a slob in her bedroom and also a homebody. She was forced to learn court politics and intricacies since she could read and understand, how to comport yourself and what clothes to wear. And ever since she finally broke free from the court she loves just being a slob and dressing like a hobo at home. No one's there to judge, she's finally free. She's also pretty smart about what motivates people since she had to learn that at a young age.
Wulf, despite being pants wetting terrifying to most adults, is kind to small children and those that are punched down upon by society. He has a strong sense of justice and doesn't tolerate bullshit.

#3 But oh my gosh, what if Danny ever murked Dora!? Or Wulf!!? Or Cujo!!!? I don't even want to spare a villain! At least let me count the good guys down! I can see that evil smile. I can see it. I said I see it! I SAID I SEE IT!!! REEEEE!!! (I hope I did that last one right. I mean in my language the sound would be riiiii but in english your bet is as good as mine aside from that it is in english but the sounds, the sounds in english are infuriating, so complicated!)
That's actually interesting because Danny met ghosts like Dora, Skulker, and Wulf who still have their humanity traits stay intact and they are not as bad as they look. For Cujo's case, Danny just cant bring himself to hurt the doggo lol.
Tbh its only possible for Danny to be open minded on some of the ghosts because of Frostbite, who is a mentor figure to Danny. Years before NU is formed, there's a short story about Danny was trap inside the ghost zone and that's how he met Frostbite who helped him to escape the ghost zone and teach him to control some of his ghost powers. From Frostbite, Danny also learn his clan's past, the King of Ghost and the existence of ghost in human world.

In the Hall of the Desert Captain
Though the mechanic of the airship, Mirari has yet the opportunity to actually fly with the metal bird. Silverbird has been grounded even before she arrived in Torque, looking for work in one of the more remote locations she’s ever been, but this seemed as good a place as any to settle down. Catching the job with Riviel’s crew just added a heap of icing to the cake. Well, no, it was the cake; Mira would live anyplace, anywhere to have this opportunity practically drop right into her lap.
As a child in Thorim Rift, she’d seen the military airships at a distance, floating ominously over the outskirts on patrol, but not until now has she ever seen one up close, able to get personal right into the very gears and wires that fed life into its metal hull. It’d taken her a couple days to familiarize herself with the Silverbird’s quirks and temperament, learn the particular language the ship spoke, but now Mirari prided herself on knowing her better than anyone else aboard.
Now if only they would actually fly her, find a job, anything to get them both off the ground and soaring, that’d make it all worth Mira’s while.
For now, though, the crew had gathered in Torque’s number one tavern and inn, the Runaway Rail, seated at their usual table in the corner where Riviel, in his arrogant confident, sat with his back facing the door. Far as Mirari understood, Riviel started this town, owned it, and shook payment from any man or woman who wanted to settle it for their own profit. Made the man unbearable, and damn near targeted, but since he ruled the ground and the skies above it, no one’s risen up to do anything about his iron fist. Yet.
Suffice for Mirari to say that she took in with the head man in town soon after she arrived. No one would touch her—but the draw of her heritage might should work of it ever get out. Riviel himself would be at the front of that line, putting a bullet in anyone else who tried to cash in on the reward her ransom would undoubtedly be demanded. Now, whether or not that sire of hers would do anything about it, even she didn’t know, but she’d rather not find out.
Sitting back from the table, Mira cradled a nest of gears in her lap, tinkering while the rest of the crew conversed. Zenzi, the whip-like spiral with a nasty crack customary in her words, sat to Mirari’s left and nursed her one drink this evening, green eyes roving the tavern like a predator hunted weak prey. With a smile as venomous as a toridae, Zenzi was a woman best left uncrossed. Beside her sat Wulf, the massive imperial with a missing eye. He lost it during the theft of the Silverbird, right out of Thorim Rift’s own shipyard, and he wore the patch like a badge of honor, always recounting the story to anyone who would or would not listen. As the ship’s gunman, he often got guff over his one eye, and Mirari silently hoped he would tonight so she could see his legendary accuracy in action.
To Mirari’s right sat a woman not part of the crew, but she has in the past often hitchhiked with the crew when on her own jobs, none of which Briska will discuss. She’s only ever smiled almost sweetly when Mirari asked about her work, and replied, “I kill people, darling, for a very high price.” And always left it at that. Briska leaned back in her chair as if she hadn’t a care in the world, but her observations of the room and its people rivaled Zenzi’s open intimidation. Without a doubt Briska could with eyes closed point out every person in the room, what they were wearing, and whether or not they posed any potential threat or not.
And yet, despite the danger that sat on either side of her, the one Mirari found the most disquieting was Pierce. A silent, brooding skydancer, he sat between Briska and Riviel, yet had turned himself to openly face the outer room where his captain sat with ease with the back to them all. If not all of Riviel’s confidence rested in his own capability, he likely slept well at night knowing Pierce prowled nearby. As the ship’s First Mate, he carried much responsibility, but largely utilized his closeness with Riviel to guard the imperial, and perform the heinous acts that Riviel himself deigned beneath him. If there was ever a man with blood on his hands, it was Pierce, and he made no show of trying to wash away the stains. Mirari hated accidentally meeting his bright orange eyes.
The Captain on the other hand….
The rich, dark brown of his skin made his deep blue eyes seem to pop so vividly from his face. When she first set eyes on him, Mirari’s stomach flipped just as it did now when she lifted her gaze and found his, cool and calm and confident, lingering openly on her. A tiny smirk tilted his mouth, which she could see even when she lowered her own gaze back to the gears in her lap, pushing from her mind just how devilishly handsome the sod was. Those swirling silver tattoos that marked his whole body—she’s seen some of them on his arms and back so far—added a vibrant menagerie of color to his form, and though his hair was grey it looked completely natural, hardly a sign of age. Though, yes, he was a handful of years her senior and technically she wasn’t of age yet to be considering such things. Give her another year, though, and maybe she’ll be bold enough to earn his true attention. If she still wanted it by then. He could prove himself to totally insufferable and ill-suited to any sort of relationship.
So far, though…he’s been a perfect gentleman, despite his vicious reputation.
While Mirari contemplated the future and its possibilities, a shadow detached itself from the wall behind her, somehow appearing from seemingly nowhere and sending Pierce straight to his feet, knife drawn as Mira dropped a few of her gears in a start. Between herself and Briska stood a rather small, slender man, cloaked and shadowed and seemingly finding zero amusement or achievement from successfully surprising a whole group of excellent criminals. And a young mechanic.
Swearing under her breath, Zenzi shoved her own weapon back into its holster, pushed from the table and clipped the back of Wulf’s head on her way passed him. She stormed up to the bar and took a seat there instead, slapping the countertop to demand the tender’s attention.
Wulf only chuckled though, hardly harmed by her sudden exit. “Have a seat, Donahue,” he rumbled, nudging the now empty seat, which the fae did silently take.
Mirari eyed one of the lost gears under Donahue’s chair, frustrated that her work had been halted for the moment yet unwilling to reach under him to retrieve it. The other two gears she couldn’t see from here.
Riviel leaned an arm on the tabletop, ignoring Pierce while the skydancer still stood, burning holes into the top of Donahue’s head. “Any news?” Riviel prompted.
Pushing his hood back, Donahue nodded. “There is unrest in the Rift. Nothing serious, but whispers have spread.”
Pulled from her quiet gear search, Mirari looked to the fae beside her, biting her tongue.
“Let me rephrase the question,” Riviel smiled. “Any news of interest?”
Unperturbed, Donahue shrugged. “You have a jewel maker in Thorim Rift, do you not? If his surroundings do not interest you, I’ll take my eye off the city.”
“No, you’re right. Feroz is a great asset. Stubborn and depressed, but an asset nonetheless.” Sighing, the Captain sat back in his seat, throwing an arm over the back of it. “I was hoping to hear our favorite Premiere has finally done his city in, but alas. Not yet it seems.”
“That sort of drama isn’t child’s play,” Briska interjected, hiding a scowl behind a hard smile. “If that city falls under its own weight, we’ll have no reason to find refuge here. Our own little economy will crumble, and a kingdom in the Rift’s place will be harder to infiltrate like we do.”
“Please,” Wulf scoffed, scratching his scraggly beard. “You’ve managed worse.”
“Yes, but that doesn’t mean I want my home base to become as fun as elsewhere. A woman needs a break from all that sort of stress.”
“In either case,” Riviel added, “it’s not up to us whether it falls or not, but I can enjoy the news at least. Who’s at the heart of the unrest, Donahue?”
“Plague.”
A collective series of snorts emitted from around the table. Who else would it have been?”
“Really, is there any merit behind it? Those of Plague are always restless, looking for trouble.”
Wulf, a Plague dragon, grinned and raised his mug, muttering a harsh little praise to his deity before downing the whole thing in a few massive gulps.
“Difficult to tell at this stage. I will keep you informed. It has been a slow month.” Donahue’s stone-like expression ticked a little in a show of mild annoyance. “Hopefully I will have something much more interesting to tell you at a later date.” As Donahue rose, he met Mirari’s eye, the dark violet of his gaze seeming to strike right through her own and expose the very secret she desired to keep buried. Did he already know who she was? The daughter of a noblewoman and a high-ranking official of Thorim Rift? If Donahue knew so much about the darker workings of the city, what else might be exposed to his searching eye and ear?
Though Mirari swallowed, she kept silent, and Donahue passed behind her without pause, slipping around the table and heading for the door. Something in her face must have shown her discomfort, for when a gear clinked into her lap, dropped there by Wulf, the imperial smirked.
“He’s good at what he does, huh?”
“Yeah,” she agreed, catching the gear before it slipped from her lap and to the floor again. “Which is what, exactly?”
“Information.” On his feet, Riviel pushed the last two gears across the table towards her, a glimmer of humor in his eyes as he smiled.
“Right,” she nodded. Great.
Gathering her gears and tucking them into her satchel, Mirari took a deep breath, glancing up as the crew dispersed through the tavern, leaving her at the table by herself, with her thoughts. Wondering if coming here was really the great opportunity she thought it would be.

I made it a point to go in to the Night Raid Bounty Call a bit early so I could discuss the matter of the Kouyou Twintails with Tetsuro Wulf. I’m all for a good hunt, but there were a couple of missing bits of information to the hunt details that would have been /really/ useful to know. Rightly, he seemed a bit annoyed, but I reassured him that the job got done anyway, but that he’d probably want to give that client an earful for the lack of full disclosure. I’d have approached that job /much/ differently if I’d known it was a mated pair with young. Still, Edgard and I got it done and that’s what matters.
(Courtesy cut for length...!)

I perused the bounty board and found the /perfect/ job to do next. It’s right up Edgard’s alley, so I’ll get to see what he’s /really/ made of or if his talk about being a dragonslayer is just that, talk. The job is to hunt a dragon in the Dravanian Forelands, even if it hadn’t been a dragon and perfect for Edgard, I’d have still taken it.  The Forelands are home and I’m not about to let some renegade beastie run rampant out there.  Especially not when I’m on my way out to Ishgard anyway.
I saw Loksia briefly while there and we arranged to take on the bounty she took for us sometime next week. She took herself off with a pair of her friends not long after, some talk of a spar going on between them on the beach.
I overheard some talk from upstairs, Z’rhun, R’zunh, and Mu’ra had returned from their hunt -- injured, of course!  I gave it a short bit before I went to see them. Zunh, of course, bruised already fractured ribs. Rhun cracked some ribs.  And Mu’ra broke an arm.  All-in-all, not too terrible, but still I would’ve preferred them to not be injured at all. I swear, I feel like I’m going to have to start following them on these hunts just to make sure they make it out in one piece!

I’d nearly forgotten about the Hunter’s Haven tomorrow. I should invite Edgard to come, since it sounds right up his alley.  A place to boast and tell tall tales of his hunting adventures?  I’m not sure there’s enough room in the Night Raid Headquarters to fit how inflated his ego would get.
I sat down in the bar afterward with Zunh and Mu’ra and a couple of their friends. Mostly talking to Mu’ra since he seemed the odd-man out. If there’s one thing I learned tonight it’s that Mu’ra really opens up to you when you give him nerdy book things to talk about. He’s especially interested in Nymian Marines and the like.  He would probably get along well with Miss Ironleaf, the elezen that runs the infirmary at the Stars’ Rest.  She’s even got a real-life faerie, just like the Nymians of old!
Mu’ra expressed a desire to have one of their soulstones so that he, too, could become a Nymian Marine for true. I told him I’d keep an eye out and an ear to the ground for him, though I have no idea where to even start looking for that sort of thing.
Tumblr media
Everything began to die down not long after, even Rhun put in an appearance from the infirmary finally, if only to wolf down the food the Little Brothers had gotten for him. I took my leave not long after, since it was well past closing.
Once that was all done, it was time to head to Ishgard. No doubt Edgard was already wondering if I’d even show up given that he’d had to do without me for an entire day!  I’d needed to turn in the bounty, though, and pick up the new assignment. I think he’ll be pleased. I also spent the day concluding all of my business in Kugane. It’s a pity that part of the reward today was a week’s stay at the Bokairo, because I wouldn’t really need it now. There didn’t seem to be a use-by date on it, so perhaps I can keep it for a Kugane-cation of my own sometime when the world gets to be too much.
No sooner than I crossed the Gates of Judgment, I was assessing the city and where best it might be to find the big dope when Edgard pretty much walked right up to me. I swear, it’s like he has this sixth sense on where I am at all times and can unerringly find me there.  It’s uncanny!
It was Banter as Usual  right off the bat, but I made it a point to deliver his part of the reward and tell him about the job I’d picked up. Or, at least I would have if someone hadn’t cranked Edgard’s flirtation meter up to eleven. Good Gods, I know he’s a flirtatious git sometimes, but this was really going overboard. I suppose I can’t really blame him for going ham, after all, I know he’s not serious about any of it. Maybe that makes me a safe person to just let loose and get it out of his system. Still, if he wanted to play as if he was Gods’ Gift to Womankind, I’d oblige him by not taking the bait.
After all, I’m a renown Centurio Hunter here. Any young hunter for malms around would kill for the honor of going on a hunt with me. Just because this was Ishgard didn’t mean that he had any advantage over me here.
Tumblr media
He decided we’d meet in the Forgotten Knight and we could go over the details of the hunt. No sooner than I walked in was I greeted by fellow hunters and Centurio Clan members, welcomed as if returning home. There were old faces and new, eager glances in the hopes of a fresh hunt and a known Huntress looking for a partner. This is what Edgard walked into the middle of.
Perhaps it was just my imagination, but Edgard /glared/ at them, then he proclaimed loudly that I wasn’t the blue catte any of them were looking for -- could it be that he was jealous?  Concerned that I might actually choose one of them for a partner over him?  It’s a queer thought to think Edgard so possessive.  I know he’s said that I matter to him, but I don’t think I matter /quite/ that much.  So what gives?
It’s neither here nor there, though, as there were much bigger fish to fry in the form of one corrupted dragon. I rolled out a map of the Forelands and the flyer I’d gotten at the Bounty Call. Outlining the location and the quarry for Edgard, I listened to his input for a plan. He wanted to go in hard and I tended to agree. Dragons aren’t something you toy with. My thought was to have Edgard lie in wait in the high hills surrounding the Feast while I lure the beast out of the ruins and into a clear area off to the west, away from the rivers. It would mean entirely trusting my life on Edgard’s skill as a dragoon, but if he’s even half the warrior he claims to be, then I have faith in him.
While we had our discussion there was, naturally, banter among the hunters around us. Several of them cutting into Edgard’s attempts to flirt with me with flirtations of their own. Gods, I swear men think it’s a competition sometimes! One thing I noticed, though, is that Edgard got… aggravated, even snapping at some of them for their attempts. I swear, at one point, he even moved closer to me!
Tumblr media
It didn’t stop us from formulating a plan that I think will do fine. My only concern is leaving Edgard to the dragon’s mercy while I retreat up into the hills. I know this is what dragoons do, what they’ve been bred and trained for, but I can’t help but feel a little concerned. I’ll stick to the plan. The largest concern is where we’re going to find someone that speaks dragon to talk to Anyx Trine on our behalf.  Because I’ll be damned if we’re hunting a dragon without their blessing and risking the treaty.  Even we Tailfeather bumpkins know that much about Ishgard politics.
The flirtations from the hunters really seemed to get under Edgard’s skin, he even asked that we have these meetings elsewhere in future because it was all too distracting for him. Too distracting for Edgard Beaumont.  Imagine that!  The man is a walking distraction of goofiness and idle flirtation and he gets agitated over a bunch of hunters finding their bravado in their cups! They’re half the reason I tolerate Edgard as well as I do. I’ve been exposed to their banter for years, so I’m used to it and it doesn’t bother me.  Gods, it seemed to bother Edgard, though I couldn’t tell you why.
I’ll head out early in the morning to stop by the Convictory and look into the sightings of the Saurotaun that Lorrendor told me of, see if they bear any fruit. Damn, I meant to ask Edgard about the scattered pieces of the beast’s prey; that doesn’t seem like dragon behavior, but I’d like to confirm it with an “expert” so to speak. If this is, indeed, some manner of magical construct, it would explain so, so much. It will also change what I look for in the future. I’ve been hunting a beast, thinking in the patterns beasts do.  A magical construct won’t have those habits.  I’ll have to learn more about them to decide how to proceed.
I’m looking forward to the hunt. Despite his ego and his bluster, it will be interesting to see Edgard in his prime element. For now, I must rest.  It’s going to be a long, /long/ day tomorrow.
