You would think that since Bruce and Cass's morals are so aligned I'd be rooting for Bruce in his confrontations against Jason but you'd be wrong. If it's Cass vs Jason I'm team Cass she has the moral high ground and I like her more. If it's Bruce vs Jason neither of them fully have the moral high ground even though technically Bruce and Cass's codes are quite similar. Because unlike Cass Bruce has been used as a mouthpiece by multiple right wing writers and also just plain bad writers to the point that you have to ignore a LOT to simplify his morals down to "Killing bad." Like yeah if Jason's going around murdering people I'm rooting for say, Cass or Dick to take him down. With lots of angst and challenging their codes and making sure everyone has a bad time. But Bruce is just such an asshole and yeah, bad person, in so many other ways. (You can ignore the comics where he's horrible if you want but they exist and there have been so, so many of them it's a consistent character trait post Jason's death. And it's never character assassinating him for anyone else, he's always presented as the Protagonist even when he's going through his edgy punch the kids moments. Which sucks but that's what DC chose.)

And also Jason was sacrificed for Bruce's pain and meant to just stay dead and smeared to let Bruce get the angst without the bad dad allegations so hell yeah son. Come back to life and torment your father. Be more than just a costume in a cave. Just get better comics and better fans because when you're not fighting Bruce you've been Lobdell's pet for so long that most casual readers associate you with his godawful writing right after the UTRH movie.

Mordecai usually doesn't like cats talking his ear off. He's pretty quiet by nature. However with Y/N it's less they're talking his ear off and more filling the space between his answers. They aren't a motormouth, just very enthusiastic.

This along with their mutual distrust of the Savoy twins means that he grew close to the new hire faster than he would like to admit.

Y/N's opinion of him is best described as ambiguous. They will sometimes use Rocky-level vocabulary just to get out of talking about things; this is one of those subjects they desperately prattle on about to dodge. In an odd way, they get out of talking about Mordecai by talking incessantly about Mordecai.

This frustrating way of weaseling out of the conversation works like a charm as it turns cats off from talking to them altogether. ;v;

Y/N frustrates Morde sometimes. They have such insightful comments about things, he knows there is a brain in there, and yet often when they start talking they can't stop. Their odd friendship is held together with duct tape, linguistic friendly banter over bullet holes being patched up, mutual interests, mutual agreement to let the other go on about their special interests and Y/N's damn insistence on seeking him out whenever they get lonely.

How exactly will the romances in UtDM work? I know they're not necessarily locked like a lot of IFs with romance (*side-eyes ChoiceofGames*) but I'm curious as to the part they can play.

So this is how it'll go:

In the first few chapters, you'll interact with most characters as the story goes along to get an idea of what they're like. Having romantic attraction/interest opens more scenes with that character, but scenes are the same as the platonic option - like, Mordecai and Viktor would be slowburns, while Rocky and Jack would be a fast track. Zib and Lottie would be more medium, etc.

At a certain point you choose a love interest to stick to. You'll only get their romantic scenes from that point, and still get the platonic scenes of everyone else.

For those who have read Last Spring, that story is very structured. UtDM is not, it'll be a series of vignettes that pop up between slow going plot points and time skips that are spread out over a year. I guess Last Spring is a railroad with a limited number of specific paths it takes, and UtDM is more a meandering hike with lots of places to stop along the way. Some places (scenes) only pop up if you have a specific Occupation/Deal/Love interest.

Roadmap for Chapter 5

We've got outlines for Chapter 5, which will again include and A and B side. This time you are assigned to work on helping Al build their image and gather support among the people. You will get to choose between working along side Quinn and Reese or Sloan/e and Al.

I will also be working on the relationship point system to ensure that it is properly balanced. The other point of contention is how to implement a save system that actually works. Until I get it to work, it is being removed because it is reverting the PC's name back to Cassidy Kaylock and occasionally messing up their gender.

We will likely not release the next update until it is completed in its entirety, which will likely be sometime this summer, unless we end up working at a quicker pace than expected. Currently the demo is at 55k words, and we anticipate Chapter 5 will add approximately 30-40k words.

You ever have a moment where you spot another introvert and want to show them you empathize but can't because you're too introverted to do it? For example, I am currently taking a lunch break at Qdoba in my car because I don't want to eat my rice bowl inside. Exactly one car apart from me is another woman sitting in her car eating a rice bowl. We are each staring dead ahead, enjoying what I am assuming for her is also solitude, possibly with some music or YouTube if she, too, is feeling froggy. We will occasionally meet eyes but neither of us will wave or even nod so as to not disrupt the other's private eating time, as the Introvert Code™ has so forbade us.
