Some crowd pics from The leather tour 3/22/24 Cody Johnson, Justin moore and Drake Milligan were amazing. The seats and people in front of us deliberately blocking our view... not so much lol. But I'm forever grateful I went. Besides some bullying I and my mom faced and anxiety of finding our seats and getting through the large crowds going everywhere and large lines we both had a great time.

2023 Horror Challenge: [59/?]

↳“It was the house...” Demonic (2015) dir. Will Canon

Plot: A police officer and a psychologist investigate the deaths of five people who were killed while trying to summon ghosts.

Starring: Frank Grillo, Maria Bello, Dustin Milligan, Cody Horn, Scott Mechlowicz, Megan Park & Aaron Yoo

I watched this last night and ended up going to bed afterwards instead of writing a review. Possibly because it was recced to me by bestie Lauren and I wanted to make sure my thoughts on it were clear considering I was getting a little tired towards the end of watching it. I think I wanted to like it more than I actually did tbh but it might just be that it felt as though it was a little more on the average side imo. I know it wasn't directed by James Wan but it is still a production of his so my expectations were a little higher than they probably should have been. That and possibly some horror watching fatigue maybe cuz the ending didn't wow me really, despite there being a twist. But then I had just finished Mother, May I? and that ending got me a little shook so I don't know actually. Overall, it wasn't the most unique storyline since a group investigating a haunted house and trying to catch evidence has been time and time again. It's the detectives plot that adds a different element to it a bit and then like I said, the ending is a little twisty, concluding on an open-ended note. I will say it was interesting how they chose to film this though because they didn't seem to wanna commit to a found footage format, which I can definitely respect enough since it's a time and place thing, but I think by doing that it sometimes would take me out of the story a little bit when they would switch from their videos to seeing the flashbacks normally to the detectives trying to figure it out in the present. I don't know how else to explain it but that threw me a bit. There's a few faces I know, of course the most obvious one is Maria Bello. I always like her and she did good with what she had. Acting-wise, her and Frank Grillo were what gelled for me, though Dustin Milligan got a little more interesting towards the end. Some creepy moments in there but I think considering I'm getting more desensitized to stuff like that it didn't really have much of an effect on me. Nothing too groundbreaking. So, ultimately, it was more of a mid watch for me tbh but I had always kinda been curious about it when I would see it on streaming services as something to watch so it was worth giving a chance at least. Sadly, no new fave but it was watchable I guess. Just don't go in expecting that it's trying to reinvent the wheel or anything like that and it might be just enough of what you need for a watch.

(P.S. Sorry, I didn't like it more, Lauren! I always feel bad when it seems like I'm trashing your reccs for me. Sometimes I think it's really just our tastes, at least when it comes to horror, don't always vibe the same I guess. I do always appreciate when you give me something to watch for the challenge tho. Keeps it interesting)

NEBRASKA

2023 Sep 9 (Sat) – We packed up and left North Platte at 9:30 a.m.  The drive was over flat and expansive lands.  We are staying at the Double Nickel Campground in Waco, NE.  Who knew Nebraska had a Waco?  The campground is very nice.  It is gated and the clerk led us to our sites.  They have a pool, lots of games, trees and grass.

      After set up, Beth & Marlin and we drove to Milligan to see the Czech Brewfest.  It is their 3rd annual brewfest and featured Czech music, dance and food.  We had a meal at the Legion that consisted of pork, dumpling, sauerkraut, and green beans.  The pork was delicious.  The dumpling was awful.  The kraut was very vinegar-y.  We enjoyed the music and costumes.  A group of students from the school danced to various songs.  I love to see the children carrying on traditions.

      When we got back, Dot was not feeling well (still).  We set up the projector and screen and Paul played the Alaska slide show for us.  It was good. 

2023 Sep 8 (Fri) – Dot and I went to the hair dresser this morning to get our hair cut.  After we got back to the campground, we got the guys and drove to the Golden Spike Tower and Visitor Center.  It overlooked the Baily Yard, a massive train depot that covers over 2,800 acres and reaches a total length of 8 miles.  It is the largest railroad classification yard in the world.  The yard processes 10,000 railroad cars every day.  More than 3,000 are sorted at the “hump.”  This is a raised mound where a train car is sent over and it rolls slowly down the hill to where it is sorted according to its final destination.  The yard has two sides – eastbound and westbound – with a total of 18 receiving and 16 departing tracks.  The main engineer sits in a booth and builds trains, sending them to the different tracks.  The train cars couple automatically when they connect, eliminating the need for any person to do that job.  There were hundreds of cars spread over the yard with a collection of engines in one corner that numbered well into 50.  It was a massive operation that was very interesting.  They also have a diesel repair shop in the yard.  The Baily Yard has been entered into the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s largest railroad yard.

      Following our exploration of the railroad operation, we drove to Buffalo Bill’s Ranch.  William Cody was quite the showman.  He brought the wild west to audiences all over the world.  His ranch looked more like a mansion and was on an estate that spread over several acres.  His home is located on state park grounds.  The original property had 2 barns, an ice house, a cob barn, and many other buildings.  Most of the buildings burned down in a prairie fire in 1904 and were never rebuilt.  The house had 3 stories.  The back part was an add-on.  The Cody’s had 4 children; 2 died in childhood of scarlet fever.  There was also a herd of bison on the ranch but we didn’t get to see them. It is ironic that he made the buffalo a world wide concern when he got his name from killing buffalo for workers when they were constructing the railroad across the west.  Bill Cody killed more than 4,200 buffalo in an 8-month period and earned the nickname Buffalo Bill.

      We enjoyed lunch at Pals Brewing Company.  They had unbreaded cheese curds.  Basically, they put cheddar cheese curds under the broiler and semi-melted them.  They were tasty.  Then we had a cheeseburger quesadilla.  It had ground beef, cheese and pickles on it.  This came with a secret sauce that tasted a lot like pickles.  They must have used pickle juice in the making of it.

2023 Sep 7 (Thu) – We packed up and left Cheyenne, WY, at 9:30 a.m.  It was a little over 180 miles to North Platte, NE.  We are staying at the I-80 Lakeside Campground.  It is right off the interstate with a small lake for fishing and boating with a nearby river feeding the lake.  The campsites are all in a line in pull-thru sites.  We have full hookups.  The temperature is in high 80s/low 90s.  It is a blaring heat.
