1. Take Me to Voldemort by @sweetiecutiedarling [M, 702k]
How did everyone miss it? That dark look in Potter's eyes? They were all too happy to gloss over his insistence that the Dark Lord had returned, acting as if the wild claims were endearing and not signs of a manic break. [...] Draco never could have predicted Potter's particularly daft and entirely sincere response, especially considering that Potter did not even take a breath before saying it. "Let's do it. Take me to Voldemort."
2. Twin flames by Wizarding_Whatif [M, 561k]
After the war has ended, Harry finds himself at a loss for what to do with himself. [...] Draco Malfoy is also asking the big questions in life after the war. [...] They both get invited back after a year of rebuilding to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. [...] This year, however, the returning students are to be resorted, Harry is but Draco is not. This year an entirely different adventure awaits the two men. With an ancient love spell cast on Harry before School the unknown consequences grow steeper as the year goes on, leaving the entire wizarding world on the edge of their brooms for news of their savior. Can a villain become a hero? Will the hero get a happy ending?
3. The Wrong Sort by ladybirdlad [?, 135k] *typo
After Dolores Umbridge becomes Hogwarts’ new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, Harry decides something must be done about her and her appalling tutelage and misinformation. Surprisingly, the hatred of their new simpering pink professor spreads further than just Harry and his friends. Far enough that even those who he once considered enemies are now tentative allies. But how much is unity against Umbridge and how much is something more?
4. Dreary by raspberrybalm [E, 177k]
A vile of Felix Felicis, a Resurrection Stone, and a blond walk into an Avada… The punchline? Draco's life, it would seem. He can't win for losing. His mother's gone, his girlfriend's in love with his mate, and The Order won't take him no matter how many baddies he slaughters. The solution? A Time Turner. The solution to the consequential havoc of messing with time? Harry Potter, of course. Only, the bloke's been dead for fifteen years. Good thing Draco eats Death for breakfast.
5. Pieces Of Me by @shewhomustnotbenamed [E, 88k]
Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter have never been friends. After finding themselves isolated from others due to their own specific problems, they somehow connect. While Harry ignores his issues with addiction, and Draco disguises just how horrible his relationship is, a friendship blooms between them. Draco must choose between the life he's known for the past five years with Cormac McLaggen, or the life that Harry offers him, and the consequences that follow.
6. Ouroboros by inkysand [T, 81k]
“But now we’re all trapped in this place with Bellatrix lurking around,” Ron said once he’d calmed down. “And it sounds like Malfoy’s all set on fixing the Compact. But what’s that going to do for You-Know-Who? If we get bumped out of here, do we go back and get killed by a dark wizard who’s got all his power back and is already in control at Hogwarts?” None of them had answers to those questions.
7. Silver Tone Rich Kids by @shelvesuponshelves [M, 73k]
Best friends since they were four, Slytherins Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy have been the shitty spoiled rich kids of Hogwarts for years. But when Harry decides he wants to improve himself and Draco can't get on board, Draco's world begins to fall apart when Harry moves on to new friends. [...]
8. A Beginner's Guide to Living by kzwjhkdo [E, 62k]
In the aftermath of the war to end all wars, Harry had dutifully tried to follow the path set out for him. He'd tried to hack it as a wizard cop. He'd tried heterosexuality. He'd tried to exist in the public eye as a hero, saviour, beloved golden boy. He'd tried. Ultimately, he'd only lasted a few months before he'd disappeared into thin air. It's been fifteen years, now—it's been precisely fifteen years, six months, and twenty days. A lot has changed. Draco is a photographer, working with Pansy Parkinson at her fashion magazine. He has a potion business on the side. He's grown, he has a carefully cultivated life, and he's sure to have a very normal reaction to seeing Harry Potter again.
9. Infairitance by @toxik-angel [T, 61k]
It's August 1999, and Harry only plans on returning Malfoy's wand to him in his weird little potion shop. The Malfoy he meets there is not the Malfoy he expected. He also was not expecting to see Fred's... unanimated corpse.

Gunntech Au oc, because why the hell not. Credit to @elmushterri for this fantastic concept

This is my child, their name is AJ.
genderfluid (they/them, he/him/she/her) Bi and ace
They are Latinx and have a mom an older stepbrother (Brutas/bru) as well as his stepfather. (nuclear family but literally) their father though was the one to have enlisted him into the organization before he left (because of course) their brother is also at gunntech but they are in different divisions. Aj's mom is very kind and supportive and actively trying to take Aj and bru out of the program so they can have a normal childhood, Gunn didn't like that very much and cut the kids contact with her while they were teens.
[fun fact, Aj used to have copper brown hair but now it's more of a burnt red colour due to their mutation, which is kind of strange, some must have mixed some red capped robin genes by accident, or the genes mistaked the hair for non flight feather, because robins heads are typically black.]
'Aj' (Alexi. Johnson Rivera) is a Robin mutant and a semi successful experiment. At first it seemed the Robin genes were working perfectly but then a few difficulties happened,

one of which was the fact that Aj had wings, they looked completely fine, but something in them had accidently malfunctioned. It was basically like having a paralyzed limb, but extra painful. The scientists at gunntech decided to fix this by enhancing the wings with metal rods stabilizing them and activating the nervous system with electricity. They function okay for medium periods of time now, and researchers are constantly grabbing Aj for either studying or improving- it was annoying but after a few years the meetings became less frequent.
The other massively abnormal thing to occur was Ajs huge beak (well it wasnt that huge, that's relative- for them it was proportionate but compared to most small birds, specifically robins, this was humongous.) It was mostly that it was horrifying watching them activate their powers because the skin on their face literally stretches until it breaks, causing a light and thin layer of blood to fall. And their skin cells just adapted, when going back to human mode they can now heal their skin back to normal almost instantly, this might have been a modification made by the scientists to be more efficient but Aj liked to think that they were just really sick. this also happened with their wings but to a far less intense degree.
Aj themself was...interesting, to say the least. One of their favorite activities was studying birds, hell they even like birds before they were mutated. Its a fine line between an obsession and just a really intense hyperfixation. And they love botany to Venus and back, as well as other various forms of biology. Aj is Autistic, they were diagnosed when they were ten, and that's all there really is to it.
Aj has a fun little quirk call being selectively nonverbal, sometimes when they are stressed, tired, confused or just for no identifiable reason at all, they are physically unable to verbally communicate. To them it isn't really much of a problem since they are fluent in sign language and i t just kinda is a part of them. To others though, sometimes this may be annoying, specifically because when they activate their retrovirus, they can't talk- of course there are several solutions to this, one being of course sign language and the other that they have a compact radio box communicator, they can hook it up to themself (pro of being a genetically modified lab rat in the worlds richest pile of shit) and basically all they have to do is think of what they want to say, and it says it, with varying degrees of success. Although it completely powers down if anything negative about gunntech is aimed for communication.
Now here's a bit of trauma for you, Aj had a situation kind of similar to Romeo/Conner (I completely forgot they existed while creating this part, so bare with me) another mutant at the facility name Robert Wilson (Bob) seemed to have taken a slight interest in Aj, they called him 'The Butterfly Man'. He and Aj had sparring classes together on some days, and he always held this calm, collected demeanor no matter what. Even though his retrovirus animal counterpart was incredibly weak, he still managed to achieve a relatively high ranking in teams, higher than Aj at least. Maybe it was because he was a nearly perfect experiment, with a few unexpected beneficial side effects, or because he was amazingly intelligent and persuasive... Something about his general athleticness? He never told Aj how he got into the good graces of Gunn. Eventually, Bob started making these grand gestures towards Aj, gifting them an organized bouquet of flowers, complementing just about everything they did, writing poems frequently- all that jazz until he finally asked them to be his romantic partner, to which they accepted vigorously.
At first everything was going amazing, then not so much. There was one point where Bob convinced Gunn to have Aj on his team for a mission, Aj was ecstatic, but confused. On that mission it got dark, and Bob grabbed their wrist and dragged them somewhere. AJ was tired, and didn't really think much of it. Eventually they stood in an empty abandoned skate park. Bob glared at them, Aj didn't speak. Bob started lashing out in front of them, yelling and staring. Aj mostly blocked it out but what they could remember was snippets of "Why are you acting like this?!"...."Really, after all I've done for you?"..."I've broke my back giving you everything, and this is how you retaliate!"..."I don't know why I even bother trying, it's obvious you don't appreciate me as much as I do you." He seemed so angry, but Aj didn't know what they did wrong, they kept wanting to ask, but radio silence. It ended with Bob striking Aj's neck, before repeatedly apologizing "I'm sorry, I love you. you love me too, right?" It was all hazy after that.
Bob still showed grand gestures of affection, but less often and less elaborate now, Aj was convinced that it was their fault for making him so distant. Every now and then Bob convinced Aj to do something by telling them "It's fine, you have to make it up to me anyways for how you've been lately." eventually Bob started growing cold, and somewhat aggressive, arguments became more common and Aj felt like shit. Finally, a calamity argument occurred, Aj didn't like to think about it, but their scars remember. Bob had something, hard to tell what, he was mad, he wasn't calm or collected anymore. It might have been a pocket knife or a ragged piece of glass, but he broke their nose with it, leaving a river of blood flowing down on the bridge of it. it had also left a smaller cut on the side of their jaw.
Anyways, off the topic of ex-boyfriends, were you aware that they completely stole the dark academia aethstetic and forcefully fused it with cottage core, they basically dress like Spencer Reid now and if they knew who that was, they'd steal his entire personality as well. Actually, they kind of accidently already did but instead of knowledge of crime being thrown at you, its the most absurd and out of pocket animal facts you ever do not want to have heard. She proudly considers herself a nerd, and has eight sketchbooks full of bird anatomy (And she's gotten quite good, to be fair...)
Also, she has full trust in Gunn because she actually has no idea how humans are supposed to be treated, and was never taught what boundaries are. It's not that she wasn't abused like the rest of the kids, she just has no idea that's a bad thing, she has been brainwashed into thinking this is absolutely normal and that she's being an uncooperative brat when she gets stressed, scared, and miserable during training. 'Trauma, no that's just me being the problem, ya know, a nuisance misbehaving kid' so when she's on missions to re-recruit kids into the facility, she is just so obliviously kind, like "I dunno why you left, but like can you come back plzzz :]" She trusts everyone and no one at the same time and its hella confusing for her and everyone around her. It doesn't help that her older brother is on the B-team and is captain of it, I might dedicate a post to him but idk yet, he's so sweet I love him, but he ain't the titular character rn.
Also I suppose I should take this time to describe their 'hero' outfit and put in the rest of the drawings.

this is one of their casual outfits, they are surprisingly versed in nerd fashion tbh, look at that cute punchable little face, btw they are seventeen very nearly eighteen and 173.7cm or 5.7 in freedom units. they almost exclusively wear earth tones with the exception of burnt or faded reds because it goes with their hair. the have greenish hazel eyes and somewhat deep morero skin.

this here is their 'hero' outfit, supersuit, whatever ya wanna call it. yes they are aware of their beak leave them be. the right hand (the one to the left) did not come out great, leave me be. yes they have a cropped bomber jacket, its cool. under that they of course have the skin tight material around their implant which has all sorts of tiny devices and stuff like that in it, as well as the connection to their wings- Though they were told they were allowed to request layering as much as they like so hence the jacket and that cargo pants...and the belt, and the pocket attached to the hanging strap of the belt, and the strap on their torso that I haven't decided the use of yet...they really like potential storage space...and bulky clothing (but like..comfy style) their radio communicator is in that little pocket on the front of their waist. The jacket is brown leather and the skin tight suit is bronze-ish with gold glowing activation lines center based on their implant. the shoulder pad thingy design is charcoal gray as well as the hood (just a darker tone). the belt is dark brown and the pants are black.
Fun fact that they will tell you immediately upon meeting, they have three eyelid sets, one of which is clear and moves horizontally so during flight they can see without having to worry about debris or drying out, one set that is a lower set and its upper counterpart set. Also since their eyes are black they have the benefits of enhanced ability to see in low light conditions, it also improves their ability to spot predators ('villains') over a wider field of vision and orientation and navigation... While technically not directly related to their vision, some of the scientists at gunntech suggest that some proteins in their eyes may play a role in their ability to navigate using earth's magnetic field, which they don't really know what that means but sure.

this is a drawing of a Robin, it doesn't matter if you think of it being drawn by me or by Aj, we both love drawing birds but its just reference for what they like...are. Legs are a little bit big in proportion but shh.

Here they are accidentally stealing Leo valdez's look, I swear this was not intentional but what the hell its funny. I spent three whole minutes on this, plz appreciate it, lmao.

really rushed and badly drawn bby Aj in their gunntech issued outfit. I personally think it looks like shit, but that might just be because I spent half an hour trying to make the knees look decent and now have prejudice. They read robinhood as a kid thinking it was gonna be about birds, it wasn't but they liked it anyway.

[credit to @tea-cuz-why-not for their character Kore, they are super cool and talented please check them out if you haven't already binged through all their artwork]
Aj would admire any other bird people they find and info dump about birds whether wanted or not, they have probably been punched due to this at least once, they're just an annoying little goober. I drew this in five seconds and did not do either character justice so go look at tea's art I swear it looks so much better than the amalgamation I created.

emo shit, ignore it.
Sorry for the excruciatingly long post, I had hyper fixated on this so hard that I was drawing till 1:30 in the morning and had to go to sleep before I could finish the post. I'm gonna be so burnt out later lmao.

"It became the lord of the manor." From Watson's Magazine, 1905.
* * * *
We are not sheep. Get louder. Take action. Create a shadow cabinet.
February 10, 2025
Robert B. Hubbell
Feb 10, 2025
Over the weekend, Musk and JD Vance each posted statements asserting that the president should or could defy court orders. A Harvard law professor joined the conversation by endorsing the notion that judicial restraints on the president violate the separation of powers doctrine.
They mean business, folks. They want Trump to be unbounded by the Constitution, Congress, or the courts. In other words, they want a dictator. They think we are sheep who will huddle together for safety and look the other way. They are wrong, and it is time for us to let them know by raising the volume.
Let’s skip through thousands of words of analysis and get to the point: Trump believes that he is immune from all laws, can ignore Congress, and spend money (or not) based on his whims (or those of teenage hackers and rogue AI), and that we will dutifully send our tax dollars to Washington without so much as a whimper.
Trump is making a dangerous political bet: That he can smash the social compact that binds Americans together and that we will continue to abide by a social contract he has destroyed. Such a one-sided bargain doesn’t make any sense.
Americans willingly obey the law, pay taxes, go to work, and patronize businesses because they believe that deep down, everyone is bound by the rules. But the logical consequence of telling people that the rules don’t apply to the president and his minions is that they don’t apply to anyone. That is not an outcome anyone wants.
One would think that the biggest cheerleaders for the social compact would be American businesses that thrive because we have orderly markets, relatively corruption-free government, and happy consumers. If consumers, taxpayers, and citizens refuse to play a game of charades in which one side always wins, the American economy crumbles. Overnight.
The right solution is for Trump, Musk, and JD Vance to stop making wild statements that the president can act in a lawless manner with impunity. Let’s hope they do so. We should give them at least another 30 minutes to prove their bona fides.
And when the 30-minute grace period has expired, we need to ramp up the pressure, increase the volume, and make American businesses realize that their profits will evaporate overnight unless they become part of the solution.
No more toadying up to Trump. No more bowing and scraping to adopt his illegal executive orders. No more cocktails on the patio at Mar-a-Lago as kids in America are kicked out of cancer research trials and children across the world are told to feed themselves in a lifeless bomb-scape created with US-supplied munitions.
I have a few recommended solutions. But no one should wait for me. I don’t have the magic solution, just some common-sense suggestions and thoughts about where all of this is heading.
Street protests must continue to grow daily.
Telephone lines into the offices of every US Representative and Senator should melt from the volume and anger of the messages.
Everyone in America should belong to a grassroots organization that is actively involved in planning protests (even if you are unable to show up at the protests).
Engage in daily acts of resistance: Jessica Craven Chop Wood Carry Water, Third Act, and 5Calls.org, and others.
Support Democrats while demanding that they act in a manner consistent with the constitutional emergency we face.
Support the legal advocacy organizations leading the fight in court: Democracy Forward, Public Citizen, Democracy Docket, ACLU, and other legal advocacy groups.
Trump, Musk, Vance, Bondi, and others won’t stop until they recognize that they are threatening the political, social, and civic fabric that allows billionaires like Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg, and Trump to rake in obscene profits from a system that depends on you and me going to work in good faith to keep the enterprise humming along. Once they realize that they are threatening the engine that makes them wealthy and secure, they will relent. But not until then.
Let’s look at what happened over the weekend—not because we need to frighten or anger ourselves, but because we need to steel ourselves for the fight ahead with the moral clarity that comes from knowing the other side has stopped playing by the rules.
Musk, Vance, and a Harvard law professor suggest that the president should not be required to follow court orders.
On Sunday, JD Vance posted on Twitter, “Judges aren’t allowed to control the executive’s legitimate power." See NBC News, J.D. Vance and Elon Musk question judges' authority over Trump.
Vance is a disgrace to Yale Law School, which should revoke his law degree and condemn his dangerous rhetoric. Come on, Yale! What are you waiting for--until it is too late and you are a government-run “re-education camp”? Find your voice and your backbone! And, sadly, law professors from NYU and Columbia defended Vance’s tweet, saying that his use of the word “legitimate” means that he is not calling for unlawful actions.
Give me a break! We all know precisely what JD Vance means. See, for example, the Rolling Stone headline, J.D. Vance Says Trump Can Ignore Judges. The knee-jerk reaction of institutionalists to serve as apologists for fellow graduates of elite institutions must stop before it is too late.
The tweet by Vance is one of the most reprehensible, dangerous statements made by a vice president. Alumni of Yale should be melting Yale’s switchboard with irate calls!
Musk put an exclamation point on the sentiment posted by Vance, posting, “I don’t like the precedent it sets when you defy a judicial ruling, but I’m just wondering what other options are these judges leaving us.” Well, Musk, here is another option: “Appeal the ruling you don’t like, and when you lose on appeal, obey the ruling”—which is what every other American would do!
Harvard Law Professor Adrian Vermeule wrote the following after Senator Tom Cotton called a ruling “outrageous” for halting Trump unconstitutional violation of the Article I powers of Congress:
Judicial interference with legitimate acts of state, especially the internal functioning of a co-equal branch is a violation of the separation of powers.
The usually somnolent NYTimes is finally—finally—starting to show a flicker of recognition of the enormity of the crisis we face. It featured two stories about what it calls a potential “constitutional crisis.” The stories ran under the headlines, Vance Says ‘Judges Aren’t Allowed to Control’ Trump’s ‘Legitimate Power’ and Why Federal Courts May Be the Last Bulwark Against Trump.
In the second story above, the Times blamed the potential crisis on “a compliant Congress and mostly quiet streets.” Of course, the Times failed to include its own miserable failure to speak the truth about what is happening. It continues to gloss over Trump's obvious mental deterioration, his ceding of presidential power to Musk, the obvious unconstitutionality of impounding funds, and the wild swings in foreign and financial policy.
On top of those lapses, the Times is failing to report on the true extent of grassroots protests and then has the gall to claim that the streets are “mostly quiet.” I suggest that its reporters get out of Manhattan to find out what his happening across America.
Sherrilyn Ifill addressed the false narrative that “no one is doing anything” in her Substack post, Democracy is Crumbling. Is Anybody Doing Anything? Ifill writes,
I also see repeated posts and hear in conversation with people around the country the claim that “no one is doing anything.” Even newspapers have reported that there is no resistance this time. And this is patently untrue. And yet people keep repeating it.
So, our job is to get louder, be more visible, and become relentless thorns in the side of our representatives and the media until they recognize that we are mad as hell and won’t take it anymore!
Trump questions the validity of US treasury bonds—potentially creating a financial crisis
On his flight to the Super Bowl, Trump appeared to question the validity of bonds issued by the US Treasury. He said,
There could be a problem, you’ve been reading about that, with Treasuries, That could be an interesting problem because it could be that a lot of those things don’t count. Therefore, maybe we have less debt than we thought of.
Like everything else that comes out of Trump's mouth, it sounds like oatmeal tastes—mush. But markets have been toppled by less incendiary statements than suggesting that the US won’t honor “Treasuries” it has issued. The UK learned the lesson under Prime Minister Liz Truss the hard way that playing games with the bond market is a fast path to disaster. See Business Insider (1/7/2025), Soaring Bond Yields Risk Liz Truss Moment for Markets: Apollo Economist. As explained by Business Insider,
the UK bond market reacted furiously to then-Prime Minister Liz Truss's tax cut plans. The market upheaval almost led to a collapse of UK pension funds and ultimately contributed to Truss's resignation from the top job. The Trump administration's plans to unveil a combined spending bill and tax cuts could scare the bond market considerably, as it would likely lead to increased deficit spending.
If proposing a budget with tax cuts and an increased deficit are likely to “scare” the bond market, image the pain if Trump gave Musk and his teenagers the power to selectively refuse to pay US debt based on phantom allegations of fraud.
As Paul Krugman (@pkrugman.bsky.social) wrote on BlueSky,
It could mean that the world financial system melts down when investors realize that Elon Musk may selectively default on US debt. Just saying.
Trump's Chief of Staff, Suzie Wiles, later claimed that when Trump said “Treasuries,” he didn’t mean “Treasuries,” he meant “payments by the US Treasury,” which (of course) includes interest payments on Treasuries. They are a clown car on fire going over a cliff. Unfortunately, we are passengers in that car.
Look, if Trump doesn’t know the difference between “Treasuries” and a payment by the US Treasury to an agency or department of the executive branch, he has no business being within ten miles of the nuclear codes.
Trump limits research overhead to 15%, a move likely to halt research at many universities.
Universities around the nation are the powerhouses of research that saves lives and imporoves the quality of our lives. Research requires overhead to pay for things like laboratories, supplies, safety officers, etc. On Friday, with zero notice, Trump announced that all research universities would be limited to 15% overhead on research, a move that will literally shut down lifesaving research. See Politico, NIH slashes funding for research overhead, leaving universities scrambling.
The cuts are so drastic that some red-state members of Congress are begging Trump to reconsider. See HuffPo, This Red State Senator Has Concerns About Trump's NIH Cut. Per Huffpo,
It’s not hard to imagine why [Senator Katie Britt] would [object]: As AL.com columnist John Archibald pointed out over the weekend, [University of Alabama at Birmingham’s] health system is the region’s economic backbone. “Millions upon millions will be lost in an institution that employs 28,000 people and enrolls 23,000 students, that provides jobs and health care and fuel to the regional economy that otherwise relies disproportionately on the service industry — restaurants and breweries and bars,” Archibald wrote.
Multiply the disruption in Birmingham a hundredfold, and you begin to get an idea of the chaos that is about to descend on the research communities at American universities. The downstream effect on life-saving treatments, local business, and start-up spin-offs is staggering. All because a 19-year-old software engineer is incapable of imagining the human suffering that reckless cuts will cause.
NYTimes Editorial Board condemns Trump's anti-transgender policies
The NYTimes Editorial Board finally got something right. In a well-reasoned, fact-based editorial, it condemned Trump's targeting of transgender people. See NYTimes, Trump’s Shameful Campaign Against Transgender Americans (Accessible to all.) I urge you to read the entire editorial.
The Board writes, in part,
Mr. Trump’s targeting of transgender Americans will go far beyond the military. And his instinct for demonization, his habit of dividing the public into those worthy of protection and those who should be cast aside, his habitual cruelty to those who can be pushed around without others speaking up will go far beyond a campaign against this one small, vulnerable group. As these campaigns continue, Americans would do well to remember the hard-won lessons of our history.
Hitler started his campaign of genocide by targeting defenseless group. The playbook doesn’t change.
And while I am praising the NYTimes for its editorial stances, the Board also posted this editorial late last week: Opinion | Now Is Not the Time to Tune Out - The New York Times.
The Board writes, in part,
The actions of this presidency need to be tracked, and when they cross moral or legal lines, they need to be challenged, boldly and thoughtfully, with the confidence that the nation’s system of checks and balances will prove up to the task. There are reasons for concern on that front, of course. The Republican-led Congress has so far abdicated its role as a coequal branch of government, from allowing its laws and spending directives to be systematically cast aside to fearfully assenting to the president stocking his cabinet with erratic, unqualified loyalists. Much of civil society — from the business community, to higher education, to parts of the corporate media — has been disturbingly quiet, even acquiescent.
Concluding Thoughts
Many readers rightly complain that the Democratic Party has failed to provide the leadership sorely lacking in this critical moment. I agree. The party is beginning to rouse itself in a scattered and ineffective way. As always, the central messaging function is deficient.
Timothy Snyder has suggested the idea of a Shadow Cabinet. See Timothy Snyder on Substack, Shadow Cabinet: A Positive Form of Opposition.
I have not discussed the shadow cabinet proposal to this point because I had hoped that the Democratic Party would organize itself eventually. But as I noted above, we should be finished waiting for Republicans or Democrats to do the right thing. We are in an emergency, and we must act before it is too late.
As Professor Snyder explained, a shadow cabinet provides a focal point and a coherent messaging vehicle for Democrats to counteract Musk and Trump's “flood the zone” strategy. It would also help coordinate resistance to Trump's cruel and reckless cuts. And, if the time comes, it can coordinate national mass action to remind Trump that he needs the consent of the governed to keep the lights on and the markets open.
Readers have been recommending this solution to me for weeks. My initial reaction has been—and remains—“Good idea. But someone should just do it. Stop proposing it. Do it.”
I have no power to make anything happen. But I have a limited power to provoke others to react. So, in the spirt of provoking a debate about membership of the shadow cabinet, and with no expectation that my suggestions will ultimately be adopted, here are my suggestions:
The newly elected DNC Chair, Ken Martin, should be on the shadow cabinet, though I don’t believe he should lead it. We can’t start with the negative perception that a central committee controlled by “party insiders” is the face of the loyal opposition.
On the shadow cabinet:
Hakeem Jeffries—Minority Leader, House
Not Chuck Schumer—Minority Leader, Senate (Klobuchar?)
Pete Buttigieg – Transportation, Fox designated hitter
Elizabeth Warren—Social Security, Medicare
Gretchen Whitmire—Education
Alexandria Ocasio Cortez—Oversight
Jamie Raskin—DOJ
Ben Wikler—Grassroots Coordinator
Amy Klobuchar—Foreign Relations / Secretary of State
Gavin Newsom—Healthcare, Fox designated hitter
Rafael Warnock—Appropriations, OMB
Katie Porter— Consumer Protection, banking
Tammy Duckworth—Defense
Brian Schatz—EPA, Interior
Chris Murphy--Labor
Elissa Slotkin—Domestic intelligence, FBI counterpart
Adam Schiff— Foreign intelligence, CIA, DNI, NSA
So, don’t yell at me if you disagree with my suggestions. Instead, propose a different / better list! Let’s get the conversation going rather than wait for a “formal” process. I don’t care if I am 100% wrong in my choices; the point is to kick-start the conversation!
Trump and Musk are not standing on ceremony. Neither should we! If we can force the Democratic Party to act quickly—say in a week—then we can begin to counter-message the flood of lies emanating from the White House and Fox News. We have been flat-footed too long. We are not sheep. Get louder. Take action. Create a shadow cabinet!

The Role of Relays and Timers in Industrial Automation Systems

In the world of industrial automation, efficiency, safety, and precision are crucial. Among the many components that contribute to a well-functioning automated system, relays and timers play a foundational role. These devices act as control elements that manage the flow of electricity, signal processes, and coordinate timing sequences — ensuring that operations run smoothly and safely.
In this article, we’ll explore how relays and timers work, their types, applications in automation systems, and how high-quality products — like those offered by Enza Electric — can enhance performance and reliability in industrial settings.
What Are Relays?
A relay is an electromechanical or electronic switch used to control a circuit by a separate low-power signal or multiple signals. In industrial automation, relays act as a bridge between the control system and the equipment being operated — allowing machines to be turned on or off automatically.
Types of Relays Commonly Used in Automation:
Electromechanical Relays (EMRs): Use physical moving parts; reliable and easy to maintain.
Solid-State Relays (SSRs): No moving parts; faster switching, longer lifespan, and better for high-speed applications.
Thermal Overload Relays: Protect motors and equipment from overheating.
Control Relays: Designed for controlling multiple contacts simultaneously in automation systems.
What Are Timers?
Timers are devices used to delay or repeat electrical signals at predetermined intervals. They help synchronize tasks, automate sequences, and provide controlled outputs over time — critical for complex industrial processes.
Common Timer Functions:
On-delay and off-delay timing
Interval timing
Cyclic or repeat cycle operation
Flashing and sequencing operations
Types of Timers:
Analog Timers: Manual dial settings, simple and cost-effective.
Digital Timers: Offer precise programming, displays, and flexible timing ranges.
Programmable Timers: Ideal for complex automation routines requiring multiple sequences.
Key Roles in Industrial Automation Systems
1. Process Control and Sequencing
Relays and timers enable automated machines to follow a specific sequence — turning motors, lights, or pumps on and off in a logical order. For example, a conveyor system can use a relay-timer combination to control material flow with millisecond precision.
2. Safety and Protection
Relays protect systems by interrupting circuits in case of faults. Combined with timers, they can ensure delay before activating emergency stop functions, preventing false triggers and increasing worker safety.
3. Load Management
In high-demand industrial environments, relays help manage load distribution by selectively energizing or de-energizing machinery. Timers assist in staggered starts, reducing power surges.
4. Energy Efficiency
By automating start/stop functions and managing operation durations, timers help reduce unnecessary energy use. Relays ensure only the necessary loads are powered, minimizing wastage.
5. System Monitoring and Feedback
In smart automation, relays provide feedback signals to the control system. Timers assist with diagnostics by creating intervals for testing or data collection.
Benefits of Using High-Quality Relays and Timers
Choosing the right components significantly impacts system performance and longevity. Enza Electric’s relays and timers are engineered with:
High durability for tough industrial environments
Precision timing for reliable operation
Easy installation and compact designs
Compliance with international safety and quality standards
By integrating Enza’s low-voltage solutions, businesses in the GCC, MENA, and Africa regions benefit from cost-effective, scalable automation that supports both current needs and future expansion.
Common Applications in Industrial Sectors
Manufacturing Plants: Control of motors, robotic arms, and production lines.

Switchgear Solutions for Solar and Wind Energy Systems
Why Switchgear Matters in Solar and Wind Systems
Switchgear plays a central role in controlling, isolating, and protecting electrical equipment. In renewable energy applications, it helps:
· Manage power flow from variable energy sources.
· Protect systems from faults or overloads.
· Ensure seamless grid integration and disconnection when needed.
Unlike traditional power plants, solar and wind systems generate intermittent power, requiring switchgear that can handle dynamic loads and frequent switching.
Challenges in Renewable Energy Applications
Here are some of the unique challenges renewable energy systems face — and how they impact switchgear selection:
1. Variable Output
Solar and wind energy production fluctuates based on weather and time of day. This demands switchgear that can:
· Handle frequent load changes.
· Operate reliably under fluctuating voltages and currents.
2. Decentralized Generation
Unlike centralized grids, solar and wind systems are often spread out across multiple locations.
· Modular, compact switchgear is preferred for such installations.
· Smart monitoring becomes critical to manage performance remotely.
3. Harsh Environments
Wind turbines operate at high altitudes, and solar farms are often exposed to heat, dust, or salt.
· Switchgear needs to be rugged, weather-resistant, and have high IP ratings.
· Outdoor switchgear enclosures and temperature management are essential.
Key Features of Switchgear for Solar & Wind
When designing or upgrading renewable energy systems, look for switchgear that offers:
1. Remote Monitoring and Control
Smart switchgear integrated with IoT technology allows operators to track real-time data, detect faults early, and optimize system performance.
2. High Interruption Capacity
Wind and solar systems may experience voltage spikes. Modern switchgear provides high breaking capacities to safely interrupt fault currents.
3. Modular Design
Allows for easy upgrades and maintenance — crucial for scaling renewable installations.
4. Eco-Friendly Design
Look for SF₆-free switchgear that uses clean air or other sustainable alternatives to reduce environmental impact.
5. Hybrid Capabilities
Switchgear that can connect both AC and DC sources is increasingly valuable in mixed-source grids.
LV, MV, and HV Switchgear for Renewables
· Low Voltage (LV) Switchgear: Used in residential or small-scale solar systems. Compact, safe, and cost-effective.
· Medium Voltage (MV) Switchgear: Ideal for commercial and industrial solar/wind applications.
· High Voltage (HV) Switchgear: Essential for utility-scale wind farms or solar plants feeding into the national grid.
Each type requires specific protection, metering, and automation components tailored to its load and system requirements.
Final Thoughts
Switchgear is the backbone of any successful solar or wind energy system. As these technologies become more mainstream, the demand for resilient, intelligent, and environmentally friendly switchgear solutions will continue to rise.
Whether you’re an energy consultant, project developer, or facility manager, choosing the right switchgear today will set the stage for long-term efficiency, safety, and scalability.

re: your most recent post
I HUMBLY REQUEST THAT YOU YAP ABOUT YOUR MARYLANCE AU!!
I love you draw them (chibi or no)...they such cuties fr...
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH THANK YOU!!!!! BOTH FOR ASKING AND FOR THE COMPLIMENT!!!!!
(also @wholesomenerd here's your infodumping lol)
ok im gonna split this up into two parts!! first will be ranting about/explaining their original lore cus i dont think that most people know about them, and second part will be ranting about the AU itself. disclaimer that my marylance AU is the same/combined with my DC OC AU! its all super long combined so im gonna put it under a cut lol
part one: original lore!!
both mary and lance are one-shot characters from pre-crisis batman lore. mary comes from [Star Spangled Comics (1941) #103] and lance comes from [The Brave and The Bold (1955) #83].
mary willis is originally a girl in dick's school who is his age, and has a crush on robin. she makes the absolutely madlad desicion of becoming a vigilante to catch his attention. she studies criminology, organic chemistry, higher mathematics, how to be a detective, and a shit ton of other things. she trains physically like crazy. she ENGINEERS A GODDAMN CRIME COMPACT WITH SHIT LIKE A RADIO, FINGERPRINT POWDER, EXPLOSIVE AND SMOKE CAPSULES, A FIRST-AID KIT, AND MORE. mary is fucking insane(ly cool). anyways she goes to help dickbin as roberta the girl wonder but 50's misogyny strikes again and dickbin is like "girl??? being a vigilante?????? ew" and he kicks her out but she fucking picks the lock to the batmobile and sneaks into the batcave and dick reluctantly lets her help him with some cases. she does great and the two of them work together for a couple of weeks. mary keeps trying to get closer to dickbin but hes like "uhgmmm,.... no." anyways dickbin decides to find out who she is by giving her a giftcard and hiding out in the store the next day. he finds out who she is and is like "oh no anyone could find out who she is" as if she didnt TRUST HIM AND THATS WHY SHE USED THE CARD- anyways his solution to this is TRICKING HER INTO REMOVING HER MASK ON LIVE TELEVISION AND EXPOSING HER IDENTITY TO MOST LIKELY THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE. yeah old comics are,,, not the best with women,,,
moooving on! lance bruner is originally about dick's age as well. his dad dies and it turns out that the guy was besties with thomas wayne and they made a legal agreement that if anything happened to him then lance would go to the wayne family. so lance is a horrible and evil little fuck (affectionate) and he keeps doing stupid shit where dick takes the blame instead. dick is frustrated by this and calls in the titans, who are like uhmm maybe the power of friendship can help?? the power of friendship does Not help because they think lance is annoying. anyways some stuff happens thats not really important its just more of dc trying to convince us lance is evil and horrible. then this legal guy comes in and tells bruce that lance is evil and horrible cus of a police record and that he's a reform and military school dropout and that his dad died of a broken heart. which is like,, extremely fucked up things for a government worker to say about a child that theyre in charge of?? so the guy tries to drag lance to a reformatory (which, don't take my word for this because i havent done proper research yet, but tmk were absolutely horrific places in the 60's, especially considering this is GOTHAM) and lance is rightfully terrified about this and begs bruce not to let him go. bruce agrees to give lance one last chance and the kid uses it pretty well. he's way more helpful and mindful and nice and all that gross shit (genuinely could you imagine being threatened that if your behaviour, as an extremely lonely and fucked up teenager, didnt meet standards then you would be sent to a goddamn reformatory???). but then lance wanders into the batcave and is Very Upset about bruce and dick being batman and robin. so lance goes to this Evil Guy (named stark) who's been in a subplot about oil through the whole issue and is like "i know who batman and robin are, give me money and ill help you fuck them up". stark shoots dick when dickbin and bruce get there and bruce is like D:> and the titans also arrive and they all fuck shit up. stark tries running away but bruce chases and then suddenly robin appears and hes like "surprise bitch im haunting you" so stark shoots him again. it turns out that was actually LANCE! and dick is fine but lance is like "him sacrificing himself for you made me realise what real love is" and then he fucking dies. im not joking he Pretends to be robin for ONE PANEL and then DIES.
part two: MY AU!!!!!
now it is time for Fun >:)
so basically, i have this set in just vague early 2000's, and im still not done fully fleshing out their characters, but i have a solid thing for their dynamic and story. also i only recently made ozulite so their role in the story is subject to change, but the overall plot remains the same.
lance (and mary) is 3 years younger than dick in this au, and when lance shows up its around the end of dick's run as robin (when he's roughly 17). the first half of his arc happens the same- with him doing dumb shit and making dick take the blame, then the government guy trying to take him to the reformatory, him acting more like how bruce and dick want him to, and then finding out that theyre the dynamic duo.
but in this AU, instead of going to stark and selling them out- his feelings of being left out and being lied to make him basically say "fuck them i want to be a part of this. i can be robin too. im just as good." (spoiler, he's not). so he steals one of dick's robin costumes and a couple of the weapons/tools from the batcave and starts sneaking out as a fake robin. even if he's an absolute moron for doing this in the first place, he's at least smart enough to stay away from anything big and sticks to stopping petty crime while relying on his tools.
meanwhile all of that, mary willis with a massive crush on dickbin has been training and preparing her ass off to be a vigilante. so when she finally feels she's ready, she waits for the batsignal and starts heading to the police station to meet robin! only for her to run into.... robin?
mary immediately clocks that lance is Not the real robin, and they get into a huge argument about it because lance keeps insulting dick (though he doesnt reveal his identity) and roberta, and mary is angry at this stupid rude loser pretender. they hear/see a crime happening and stop their argument to go stop it, but keep fighting after. mary ends up so distracted by this annoying little fuck and the fact that he's pretending to be robin that she loses track of going to the station at all by the time the night is over.
the next night, they meet on the same rooftop and the pattern repeats. this keeps going and neither of them want to admit that theyre sort of growing on each other and that its more bickering/bantering than actual argument now, and that they work really well together as a team. mary is far more physically skilled and her engineering skills and shit ton of research does them really well out in the field, and lance is naturally brilliant at scheming and strategy.
the two of them also meet and grow closer with ozulite (my OC) who works at leslie's clinic and found the pair freaking out over an injured mugging victim and helped them out.
their wannabe crime-fighting escapades happen for about 3-ish months total and Sssssssomewhere in there my other OC rosa joins the batfam. she and lance get along like a house on fire cus lance has been continuing his good-ish behaviour but been lowkey self isolating from the rest of the family so when rosa shows up and also hates everyone else (except barbara) they kinda hit it off really well.
rosa has fucked up standards about child safety due to Reasons and so she knows about marylance vigilante escapades but sees no problem with it and no reason to inform dick or bruce or alfred or barbara.
anyways finally something gets fucked up and lance gets shot. rosa barely manages to get him back to the cave in time and she gets into a huge argument with dick / gets screamed at by bruce for not telling them what lance was doing. mary is absolutely shook about it because she doesnt even know who lance is yet and theyve been getting closer and closer but neither has even come close to actually admitting that they like each other.
lance wakes up and is like "oh oh fuck fuck fuck roberta and ozul" and he convinces bruce/dick to take him to their usual meeting spot where mary and ozul are waiting for him. mary kisses him and they confess to each other and then all three of them break down crying because theyre fourteen year old losers.
the bullet went through lance's lung so he has respiratory issues now. he can technically still be a vigilante but it would require medical aids and now that the rest of the batfam know about all this they do NOT let him get those (medical aids moreso than needed for comfortable normal life he obviously has those)
mary decides to give up on being roberta as well because even though she is like extremely good at it, her heart wasn't ever really in it. she's happy enough just to be a badass civillian (and to have a losercore partner in lance).
lance definitely goes into business when he's older, maybe takes over wayne industries. mary would definitely become a professor or researcher of something but i havent really decided what- im somewhere inbetween organic chem, chemical engineering, and just engineering.
mary gets along fine with rosa, but gets along AMAZINGLY with babs once she gets to know her. she doesn't really fuck with bruce, and is kind of nice with, kind of awkward with dick because like genuinely its so awkward to interact with your partner's older brother who you used to have a massive crush on. (but like after several years theyre more chill about it and get along well)
i havent decided yet/i dont know how theyll interact with everyone else in the batfam, but ill come up with it all eventually.
ALSO. lance bruner is genderfluid in this au because a) it gives me space for far more fun with his character, and b) these two are practically oc's at this point and creating straight ships physically ails me so i trans'd one of them to make them Not straight
oh, my, GOD. finally done that's all i have for them for now but there will DEFINITELY be more to come because if it somehow wasnt obvious yet, i love this AU deeply. let me know if you want me to rant about rosa and ozulite!!
