Trump & Guns

There hasn't been much talk about gun control since Trump was shot in the ear. Why do you think that is?

Are Democrats genuinely respecting the Republican principle that immediately after a tragedy is not the time to discuss policy, at least while it was an advocate of that principle who was targeted?

Or are they learning to respect the Republican principle that guns can be used to prevent dictatorships?

And why are Republicans being quiet about it? Is it because they're genuinely considering whether having Trump's opponents armed is good for them?

Or are they hoping no one notices that Trump was shot by an AR-15?

This isn't a complete list of the options. I'm not convinced that any of these possibilities are true. I'm just bringing up ideas to promote thoughtful analysis; spit-balling, as they say.

Serbians handed in thousands of guns in the first three days of an amnesty aimed at disarming the country following two mass killings last week, including one targeting schoolchildren.

Almost 6,000 unregistered weapons, 300,000 rounds of ammunition, and 470 pieces of mines and explosive devices have been voluntarily surrendered nationwide since Monday, the country’s interior ministry said Thursday in an Instagram post promoting the measure.

President Aleksandar Vucic announced a suite of gun-control measures on May 5, pledging to “carry out an almost total disarmament of Serbia.”

“We must make a decision to confront this evil,” he said. On May 3, a seventh-grader was taken into custody after a mass killing at Vladislav Ribnikar Elementary School in Belgrade, in which eight children and a security guard died. The following night, eight died in a mass killing when a shooter fired from a car in Mladenovac municipality, south of the capital. [...] The gun amnesty runs from May 8 to June 8, and allows unregistered weapons to be turned in without consequence. Those handing in weapons do not have to show identification or explain the weapons’ provenance, authorities said. Owners of illegal guns can also call police to collect them from an address without repercussions.

Additional gun-control policies that Serbia committed to this month include a two-year moratorium on new permits for small firearms and hunting weapons and a review of all existing weapons permits within three months. The government said it would introduce amendments to tighten conditions for keeping and carrying small firearms aimed at reducing the legally-held number by 20 percent; institute checks on those holding weapons permits, including medical, psychiatric and drug tests; and increase penalties for weapons offenses.

Australia, the United Kingdom, Brazil and Argentina have run similar amnesty programs to reduce firearms. [emphasis added]

Sadly, the gun worshipping part of the U.S. population is completely incapable of doing something as humane and caring as this.

They love guns more than the lives of school children.

It is as simple as that.

Once again, America must appear to the world no longer as a shining beacon on a hill, but as a culture completely out of control as it slowly marches in lockstep--led by the gun lobby and GOP--towards self-destruction.

I just don't get why employers aren't open with employees like why is it always a trick. There are people who want overtime so they can make more money in fewer days and there are people who care more about their time than earning extra/aren't saving up for anything. There are people who need jobs where attendance policy is not as strict and there are people who are happy to be there 6 days a week for a little while if it means getting paid more. There are all kinds of people in this world. So why do employers never just want to lay out their terms and requirements upon hiring. There are people who will take them up on it it does not have to be a game where you trick the people who hate what you have to offer most into working for you. You can have employees who don't resent you. If you are honest about what is going on

Gunsmith cats being on your favourites makes sense.. Your art style feels like it. Do you take inspiration from it?

That's funny. I haven't taken particular stylistic inspiration from it. I like the action, I like the cars, I like the short story format. It definitely captures what I love about 90s OVAs, where budget and energy is spent primarily on simple but flashy/stylish scenes with fantastic depth and character animation.

Hey, yanno how Climate Change is a real thing that is tangibly, at this moment, affecting our world?

Well it turns out, the wealthy and their investment firms have been seeing the mounting evidence that oil companies have had for decades and are slowly starting to think more long-term about their portfolios in the face of rising sea levels, more extreme weather, and the myriad of ways climate crises are affecting...well. Everything. Maybe this means they invest more into sustainability, green energy, building more resilient infrastructure, or carbon offsets. Some of it, of course, is simple corporate greenwashing, but there are those that are taking this trend and packaging it into something called ESG (Environmental, Social, and corporate Governance).

Now some people would say this is predictable, even sensible. Just the good ol’ Free Market(tm) rationally responding to market forces and a changing world.

But those people would be fools! Insidious fools! For conservative sorcerers have come out with a new cursed phrase to explain this new market trend: Woke Investing.

What makes this investing “woke?” Well, much like how conservatives normally flounder when trying to define a word they stole from black people, “Woke Investing” essentially just means any kind of capital investment that they, the fossil fuel billionaire class and their sycophants, don’t personally profit from.

One of these aforementioned sycophants is Andy Puzder, conservative commentator, fellow at The Heritage Foundation, and former fast-food CEO. He calls this kind of so-called woke investing “socialism in sheep’s clothing,” further explaining in leaked audio of a closed-door meeting:

“My father's generation's challenge was the Nazis, who, by the way, were, of course, very proud socialists[citation fucking needed]. The challenge of my generation was the communists, who were, of course, very committed socialists. The challenge of your generation is ESG investing, and it's more insidious than communism or the Nazis.”(source)

You heard it here first, folks. Not investing as much in fossil fuels is more insidious than the Third Fucking Reich.

As usual, the Heritage Foundation is putting their petro-chemical donor’s money where their mouth is. Bills are being proposed to blacklist banks that don’t invest in key state industries, such as West Virginia coal or Texas oil. Fourteen states have already passed bills to restrict ESG-type investing, with Florida Governor Ron “Bullies Kids for Wearing Masks” Desantis leading the charge.

In other words, Climate Denial has reached such a point that so-called Free Market Conservatives who claim to hate big government are trying to make it illegal for banks, investment firms, and financial institutions to make any financial decisions that acknowledges Climate Change is real.
