Starting a new horror novel entitled Corpse Collector. I just read a bit of the summary and the first review to avoid spoilers, but oh boy I think this is gonna be some good horror hehe

There's a business of the Dead that's been around since the age of humanity. Corpse collecting and selling is a black market on its own.

Alien technology is involved when it comes to the  bodies of the dead. Some demon use the body and will upload their brains into a computer to relive their lives in their simulated worlds. As though the dead person is dreaming inside an alien space ship.

Some use the dead bodies in their evil, malevolent schemes, harvesting versions of the dead, and selling their bodies as commodities.

These are all of my all time favorite horror and horror leaning characters. These all range from my biggest fictional crushes to just characters I vibe with to the point of obsession ❤️❤️❤️

Every so often I’ll see interpretations of Liara’s N7 armor display as creepy/obsessive behaviour — and that’s a fair interpretation! But it got me thinking about my own interpretation and, well

It kinda makes sense, doesn’t it?

Whether you romance her or not, she still has that armor display. The archaeologist. Displaying the armor of someone Important™️, someone whose most recent importance was downplayed by the Alliance — support for Shepard’s Reaper theory was waning, the Alliance sent them off to more remote spots, Alchera happened…

Liara is first and foremost a student of history, and an Asari one at that. She’s trained to see those patterns of history, and knows a legend when she sees one — beyond whatever else Shepard may have been known for before ME1. And in the aftermath of Alchera, I’m sure she got her first real experience with how humans, and the Alliance in particular, will try to bury or gloss over inconvenient truths — if they can be bothered to acknowledge those truths in the first place

They didn’t memorialize Alchera until Shepard was back, two years later. They didn’t want to keep a spotlight on Shepard, on why they were even out there. But Shepard didn’t stay buried, and, well, maybe other ghosts wouldn’t either

All this to say I personally see Liara’s display as her own way of honoring Shepard as a historical symbol, as someone Historically Important™️, and part of that history is a part the Alliance wanted to forget, was happy to forget until they couldn’t anymore

But Liara wasn’t going to forget, and she’d make sure galactic history broadly wouldn’t, either. And in ME3, she takes that conviction one step further, seeding Shepard’s story, the story of the Reapers, all throughout the galaxy

That just reads as more narratively consistent to me, anyway 🤷‍♂️

mementos of dead loved ones

okay so. i may have a worldbuilding disease. this was supposed to be just a kakasaku kiri alternate universe for kinktober. unfortunatelly it spawned a question: what is going on in konoha?

kakashi is born in kiri -> no kakashi on team minato -> another prickly genius for obito to fixate on -> thanks to sakumo being a kiri shinobi a branch house hyuga has a career ending injury that leads to her having a child (working name hiroto) that ends up on this team 7 in kakashi's place... (deep breath, can't stop now, we're saving rin) kannabi bridge mission, hiroto loses an eye, gets obito's new sharingan -> terrible dojutsu drama back in konoha -> hiroto is kidnapped in the sanbi incident -> violently gifts eye to rin (genjutsu & "low on chakra so you need to use it") -> ends self with hyuga cursed seal -> mangekyo sharingan for both watchers

rin has studied hiroto's implant so her sharingan can be turned off but it has the typical bulging byakugan veins.

minato and kushina die on schedule. rin is left with hiraishin kunai (that don't work for her; mostly whips it out for intimidation) and more keepsakes.

bingo books list her as the Collector. it's only slightly better than Friend Killer.
