Is Beth just always active and like projected or can she turn off the projector and just be a voice inside Kaita's head? Could she go a step further and just not even exist in the physical world and be gooberin around in Kaita's OS or something? Could she villain arc and just possess her?

unfortunately you asked a simple question so now you get the needlessly complicated answer

Kaita's artificial brain is designed in such a fashion that'd be hard for Beth to just hack like a normal computer. Her frontal lobe works on artificial neurons that create thoughts, behaviors, and impulses that are then regulated by another component that works like the brain stem and cerebellum. Effectively, every part of her could technically work as a prosthetic version of its organic counterpart, including the brain, so you'd need to know how to "hack" human impulses in order to even begin to say, overwrite who she is.

However, the wolf also has a more mundane smartphone chip installed on her that her brain can directly use at the speed of thought that allows her to interface with other devices, and is easy to replace or upgrade without messing with the brain itself. Think like a simple computer with linux or a stripped down Android OS that your brain is hooked up to that it can mess with in any way it wants, to make calls or save memes or something, while the phone can't do anything to the brain besides sending signals to the optic and audio feeds.

Beth likewise is an AI designed to only exist physically as a chip on her own phone. This phone is installed on Kaita in a similar fashion to the wolf's own on-board smartphone, through which Kaita can talk privately to Beth and see the AI do stupid shit on her HUD. Like, a more bitchy Cortana. Beth doesn't like wasting power or always being seen, so she usually only peeks out when she feels like it in the first place. She very often is just a voice or, if she's feeling nonverbal, a series of dialogue boxes Kaita sees as notifications from her phone's OS.

In terms of possession, there's technically a workaround; her hardlight body can produce electrical signals, and if she was really desperate and persistent could sort of jam her projected form onto Kaita's brain stem that way, but it'd be very very taxing to pull off unless Kaita for some reason allows Beth to do it, usually only as an agreed upon emergency measure if the wolf is incapacitated/deeply unconscious.

The picture above basically only happens because Kaita trusts Beth not to do something stupid. She's probably a bit mentally tired from something, and is letting Beth take control so she can "rest" a little. It only takes a little bit of mental effort on Kaita's part to eject Beth, but Beth lacks a physical body and sometimes Kaita feels a bit bad for the AI, so she lets her have some fun if it also means getting someone else to do a few menial tasks for her for once.

EDIT: forgot to mention; had koboldfactory's drawing of Beth in mind for drawing this one. Beth's design can often be asymmetrical and experimental but I really liked the mix of the sleeved and sleeveless look she came up with

On one hand, Marathon 2025 looks very compelling story-wise. On the other... I do not have the energy to maintain an invalidated and wildly-divergent AU. And despite being set in the future of an alternate timeline, if Nu-Marathon declares that, say, android vessels for AIs are not and cannot be a thing--there goes the foundation of Inmortalitas.

(And whether or not the AI seen in the cinematic short was Leela, they already don't look as they do in Inm., where they were all modeled on Cortana. Would be nice if they officially made Leela's signature colour blue, though.)

I have an idea of where some characters, both OC and takes on canon, can go, but I don't enjoy the prospect of having to essentially scratch-start this bloody thing AGAIN just to share my art/musings in peace.

Weird thought. Could be sad or could be dark.

What if Movie!Khaji Da is acting/was acting at least in the beginning of it?

Like, the Siri/Alexa/Cortana/thing. What if that’s fake, and the Scarab is acting to make them (mostly Jaime) less afraid of it. Either bc it’s aware of pop culture opinion around AI (and is downplaying itself so they’re not scared of it so much), or is still loyal to the Reach and wants Jaime to trust it bc it’s an infiltrator.

So skittish Khaji Da acting robotic and hiding its emotions until like the end of the movie, post the synchronization thing (bc it’s scared of their opinions).

Or Khaji Da working to gain Jaime’s trust and pretending to not understand human stuff (and playing into pop culture expectations of androids/ai/robots/etc) so that way he doesn’t question the whole “world killer” thing.

Either long-term manipulation with bad ending (reach takeover), or Khaj slowly comes to actually care for Jaime/his family (possibly bc the Reach do treat it like an Alexa [actually wait 3rd option, it acts like an Alexa for a while bc it was made to act like that (subservient, emotionless) for the Reach, and thinks they want it to act like that?], while the Reyes’ actually like. Address it. And care about each other. [and possibly Khaji Da itself] So it starts to feel guilty, decides “fuck the Reach” and comes clean to Jaime.

I really do enjoy khaji being more mechanical just because it's how they are. In my opinion it makes their development so impactful because it requires them to literally break their own coding. Go against the very fabric of your being, what you were MADE for, to try and be something more like yourself even though you don't know who that is yet.

Khaji only PRETENDING to be more robotic has some very very interesting potential though. Attempting to fit in a box your entire existence and then literally only being accepted once you step outside that box? Jeez, what a disorienting experience. My poor little murder bug :'(. They would probably end up needing a LOT of reassurance from Jaime. Just in subtle ways to make sure it's truly better that they behave as a person and not a tool. It would take soooo much time to build khajis self confidence and autonomy back up from that. Therapy. SOOOOO much therapy for the both of them on god.

there’s a pretty big difference actually but i’m gonna try to take your question about “not googling things” in good faith

1. understand that “google it” as a phrase to mean “search for it on the internet” is on some people’s part a conscious effort to genericize the term so that the company can no longer claim it because it’s become the default shorthand for the relevant concept (like escalator, jacuzzi, etc) and that “asking chatGPT” is not equivalent to “googling it” or vice versa

2. cuss in the search (“are black widow spiders venomous” vs “are black widow spiders fucking venomous”) because google’s AI summary doesn’t pop up in “profane” searches like that

3. there’s an entire list of ublock origin addons that just straight up stops the ai results from popping up (i do not have the link handy but i’m sure if you look up “ublock origin anti ai” or similar you’ll be on the right track)

4. use a search engine that allows you to turn off their ai summary natively, like duckduckgo (set this to your default search engine. when you need to actually use google for something you then have to type in the “google.com” address or it’ll automatically redirect to a search for “google” on the new engine)

5. switch to firefox/a derived non-chromium fork that will allow for this kind of added functionality without fuss (you will get popups on many sites claiming they’re only optimized for chrome and may misbehave on your non-chrome browser; ignore them)

6. minimize your interactions with the google suite of tools as much as possible (there are plenty of free/non-subscription alternatives for basically every tool in the suite; i use NewPipe on android so i don’t get ads or algo on yt)

7. debloat your operating system or switch to a linux-derived OS instead of using windows so you don’t have to deal with their inbuilt “assistant” either (i used WinAero to strip cortana and other bloat from my system; someordinarygamers and other yters have tons of videos on how to debloat, switch, etc)

If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be? 

1) Despite the fact that they are by all means a 'physical person' (mind and body), they will never know how being Humans feels. Despite Tango NOT being a Halo OC, a line from Halo 4 that Cortana speaks is a huge keystone for them.

- "I could give you over forty thousand reasons why I know that sun isn't real."

"I know it because the emitter's Rayleigh Effect is disproportionate to its suggested size. I know it because its stellar cycle is more symmetrical than that of an actual star."

"But for all that, I'll never actually know if it looks real. If it feels real." Cortana to John about the 'sun' inside the shield world, Requiem.

Tango will never be able to experience a life like a human can.

2) Since they are NOT human (android), their body is a lot different! To be quite honest, Tango hasn't had much RP action or writing recently, but in previous years, I had them engaging with a lot of action. If you've ever been around equipment, you know that it makes ☆noises☆ while in operation. Idling, hissing of hydraulics, sometimes parts will scrape and bump together. That HAS to be included when I write them. Tango is a machine; a finely tuned and advanced machine, but one nonetheless. Small details like whirring of components, soft groaning of movements after standing still, that kind of thing.

Tl;dr?

Making sure that I emphasize the fact they'll never be human and noise.
