Found a translation of hymns to Apollo and Dionysus where their epithets have been arranged in alphabetical order and this might be my new favourite thing because

- Book 9 of the Greek Anthology, translated by W.R. Paton

Look at the contrast between some of their epithets (Apollo and Dionysus respectively):

"hater of lies, giver of the soul" - "liar, tearer of the soul"

"soft speaking" - "noisy" (lol)

"sober" - "Deep drinker"

"Sweet-spoken, sweet-hearted, gentle-handed" - "Prone to anger, stout of heart"

"Gentle, sorrowless, giver of wealth, saviour from trouble" - "Jealous, very wrathful, envious, bestower of envy"

"father of fruits" - "eater of raw flesh" (BRUH)

"father of light" - "God of the night"

"Cheerer of the spirit" - "Disturber of the soul"

BUT they still have a lot in common:

"stiller of grief - healer of sorrow", "strong hearted - lion hearted", "soft haired - tender haired", "dweller on the hills - dweller in the woods" "thousand-shaped", "desirable" and my favourite, "common to all".

And it really does encapsulate the relationship between Apollo and Dionysus so well (and the duality of Apollo and Dionysus as individual gods too)

I'm also a sucker for epithets that describe appearance and I'm absolutely delighted with Apollo being "rose-coloured", "golden, golden-complexioned" and "glittering" (but is anyone surprised? XD)

Dionysus on the other hand, a bit concerning cause "slender, wrinkled"? And also he's "liquid"?? (idk what that's even supposed to mean. A reference to wine?) But "golden-filleted" and "Golden-horned" sound lovely <3

Also the fact that Dionysus is called "Satyr" and Apollo "Titan" is very interesting to me. Apollo - Titan makes sense when you consider the conflation between him and Helios. But Dionysus is a surprise. Are there any myths where he's syncretised/conflated with Pan (since he's the only Satyr god I can remember)? Of course it could be to show his chthonic nature, or that he's mostly around satyrs. But this piqued my curiosity.

The Miasma

The Miasma is an amorphous being of unimaginable power in the world of Sanct. It is an entity that utilizes the collective consciousness of humanity. It lacks an apparent will, and its sole objective seems to be propagating itself across the Earth and assimilating the planet. It achieves this by creating Miasma spawn—beings that come into existence through the Miasma siphoning human fears and beliefs from the collective consciousness. These beliefs allow the Miasma to mold its spawn into existence.

The more common the belief, the more dominant the traits the Miasma expresses in the monsters it manifests.

Because of this, SANCT created a class system was created to categorize the Miasmic spawn. The 'TF' and 'UF' class system governs whether the monsters are of 'Traditional Folklore' or 'Urban Folklore,’ each with its own classification for difficulty in destruction.

The origins of the Miasma remain unknown. The only confirmed fact is that its arrival coincided with the appearance of The Sword, the only thing known to harm it.

General Info!

What is this zine about? This zine is being created to showcase the wide variety of ships in the Voltron fandom that don't often get to be in zines, much less get zines focused on them.

What ships are being showcased? That will depend entirely on what accepted creators wish to write and draw for. In order to get a good variety and make sure no one ship "dominates," we will have a maximum of two stories per ship. We will not be accepting Shiro/Paladin or Pidge/Paladin ships. We ask that ships are kept to those between canon characters.

Do ships have to be romantic? No, they can be queerplatonic other otherwise unlabeled.

What sort of content will this zine contain? We are planning to have an entirely SFW zine with no options for add-ons. This means no sexual content or excessive gore. We are trying to maintain what would be considered a "Teen and Up" rating on AO3.

What mediums are being offered? We will have at the very least a physical zine, along with a digital version and hopefully at least some merch. This will largely depend on the amount of pre-orders.

so like. parallax dies because he relit the sun right. and in metereology a sun dog is an optical illusion that forms a bright spot next to one or both sides of the sun. these mock suns form a sort-of halo effect, and signified an oncoming rainbow and/or bad weather. furthermore, the augsburg book of miracles, an illuminated manuscript written to document omens of the christian apocalypse, has a page that scholars believe alludes to this very phenomena, making the sun dog a warning sign to the apocalypse in christian theology. basically what i’m saying is while the meaning of the title parallax is self-evident—defined as: “the effect whereby the position or direction of an object appears to differ when viewed from different positions”—hal as the green lantern can be likened to a sun dog because the phenomena is witnessed the same to everybody regardless of position because it is in itself an illusion. plus it’s just fucking cool.

Selviya’s love life is tragic and full of misery, She lost the one she loves. Travis, So, her Celestial form chose a bridal gown as her attire. Which is to honour Travis’s memory. Due to this; she suffers a lot, resulting in Selviya embracing her Celestial heritage. It’s like a compensation for her suffering and loss.

In Virginia, The female lovers who couldn’t marry and lost their lovers, they wear wedding gowns to honour their memories, Some even take celibacy vows. Some don’t.

✨- How did you come up with the OC’s name? sting is what scorpions do! they sting. bonus points because it's funny! it sounds like a command. "sting the scorpion"

🌼 - How old are they? (Or approximate age range) 17

🌺- Do they have any love interest(s)? not at all! he's got other things on his mind

🍕 - What is their favorite food? hmm good question! something spicy. my partner says he'd be more popular with the girlies if he ate ice cream but that's not how he rolls. sad for the girlies 😔

💼 - What do they do for a living? two things! sting is a medical student with a focus in neurology! his poison primarily affects the nervous system so he wanted to learn specifically how that worked, and that led to a general interest in the field. as a result, he always carries a vial of antivenom with him, just in case someone has a really bad reaction his more full-time position is as a mercenary! medical lessons were expensive, so he needed a way to pay it all off. he's taken up all sorts of odd jobs as a result. he doesn't really question what he's doing so long as he gets paid well. in my fanstory, he's doing contracted work for an ex-gun researcher named taz nocturne. afterwards, he occasionally helps out team chaotix as an informant

🎹 - Do they have any hobbies? sting would consider his mercenary work as a hobby tbh? it was supposed to be a hobby. he won't admit that it's basically his Job now. he likes to sign up for martial art classes to learn new techniques, not necessarily to participate in tournaments (though he would like to one day). asides from that, he likes to play sudoku :] he is not good at it

🎯 - What do they do best? close-range fighting, that's why being paid to fight someone is one of his favorite jobs. he's also Really good at shooter-type arcade games like galaga, do not try and beat his score

🥊 - What do they love to do? What do they hate to do? to rephrase what i said above: he likes to fight, primarily because he Knows he's good at close-range combat and it makes him feel good to prove that again and again. sting needs someone to knock him down and remind him that he is, in fact, not the Best at what he does he hates doing things unfairly, which is why he refrains from using his tail in combat. that said, he'll use his stinger if he has to, as the job ultimately comes before his pride

❤️ - What is one of your OC’s best memories? to be quite honest i haven't thought about it!

🧊 - Is their current design the first one? oh not at all. sting went through a few changes. general idea has always been the same but his "hair", mouth, markings, and clothes changed throughout the design process. i actually plan on making a separate post detailing all the the thought i put into his design! i'll add the link here (if i remember)

🍀 - What originally inspired the OC? i saw @/beehunterkisser's sonic bug designs and i was Majorly inspired by them. i Had to make a bug. sting was one of the results. i went with a scorpion because scorpions are Really Cool

🌂 - What genre do they belong in? i've imagined him being in the games/idw comics verse! i do want to make my fanstory into a fancomic one day 👉👈

💚 - What is your OC’s gender identity and sexuality? he doesn't really use labels to describe his gender or his sexuality, whatever happens happens. he uses he/him pronouns and that's all you really need to know

🧠 - What do you like most about the OC? oogh...i gotta say his design. i really popped off tbh. other than that i think he's got fun interactions with the sonic cast and i like his personality! unfortunately the interactions only really exist in my head
