hello. sorry to reply late but i had to do some thinking about this. i knew that fic was for black readers when i reblogged it. what i didn't know was that i am not allowed to read black reader coded fics. i am a person of color as well as a minority and it is hard to find poc!reader fics. i am not claiming i am black and i never did. i reblogged it because i loved what my mutual wrote. i did not in anyway "invade" the space and claimed i am black. I apologize if it made you feel that way. when i reblog fics, i do it show my appreciation. i am brown skinned with chubby body and i feel so comforted when i read fics where reader has dark skin or belly fat and it brings me validation about my skin and body. i was also unaware that i cannot reblog fics that are for black readers. i am sorry if my appreciation offended you or anyone in the community. i did not intend to hurt anyone's sentiment.

I think 2016-style "Men's rights activist" misogyny really did a number on our ability to talk about gender online in ways that we have yet to fully unpack.

At this point everyone is so jaded from dealing with those trolls that any time a men's issue of any kind is brought up the kneejerk reaction is "ugh, this again! Reverse sexism doesn't exist!" even if nobody said anything about "reverse sexism."

That's how we got into a situation where a statement like "trans men and tranmascs face specific struggles and prejudices. Maybe we should have a word for that so we can talk about how it affects us" sets off the MRA Troll Alarm and gets everyone on the defensive.

this is actually interesting. how prone to mental gymnastics terfs are. it's somewhat viral by now the stupid tweet from jordan kermit rowling denying that nazis hated trans people and then moving the goal post. first claiming that the nazis burning books on trans healthcare was a fever dream, and when presented with proof that it very clearly happened, she changed the claim completely, as though she never said that nazis hating trans people was a lie, she just meant that "trans people weren't their first victims and not all books were burned!", as though that's not a completely different and unrelated claim

because not only terfs agree with nazis when it comes to trans people (filthy degenerates!) but they know that agreeing with nazis on anything at all is "bad rep", so they rely on denying that nazis ever hated trans people at all, therefore not only erasing trans history but also an important part of the history of the holocaust: the book burnings - but also it shows how easily they twist and deliberately misinterpret the words of anyone that goes against them. im not agreeing with nazis, you just don't know what they actually believed in. you have sources? oh, but you can't have sources to this other unrelated baseless claim someone else "on your side" did, therefore im still right and you're still wrong, and you look stupid when you try to defy that.

and the fact that some people not only fell for that but also vehemently defend it. it's no wonder people call them a cult

I totally think there is something to be said about trans men/ transmasc individuals who cling onto femininity and feminine presentation and feel like theyre in their one subcategory outside of cis men, making them almost reject masculinity because they don't believe they "can do it". But making fun of them and turning them into a spectacle for mockery isn't right to do in the trans community and I'll be dammed if I let a CIS person of all people criticize such a nuanced internal issue for trans men all because they have this fucking boomer reaction to misgendering someone to omit the guilt of disrespecting someone

hey. when cis society is oppressing a trans man, what he is experiencing is. In Fact. misogyny. i'm sorry i know none of us like to be reminded of our agab, and it hurts whenever people perceive you as the wrong gender. but a cis person hate-criming, assaulting, verbally abusing, etc, a trans man is not doing "transandrophobia" because they do not perceive him as a man.

they perceive him as a woman failing at her gender, as a woman who has been seduced and lied to and manipulated because women are so easily led astray, just like it says in the bible. they perceive him as a woman who has been mutilated. they perceive him as a dyke that needs to be fixed. if they are hate-criming him because they *do* perceive him as a man, because he passes well enough they aren't thinking he could be trans, then they're doing so out of homophobia, perceiving him as a gay man, a pervert, a sissy, a danger to children. OR, they are being transphobic but specifically because they think he might be transfeminine instead. when cis society oppresses a trans woman, they are able to do it on multiple levels at once. She's a woman failing at her gender, a dyke that needs to be fixed. Or she's an evil and grotesque crossdressing pervert, a rude caricature, a danger to polite society. she will never be doing enough to escape oppression entirely, no matter if she gets every surgery she can and wears makeup every day and passes perfectly, because she lives under a patriarchy, and she's a woman, so she lives in a panopticon, and HAVING to get surgery and wear make-up to be respected IS oppression, especially if the alternative is being hate-crimed.

trans women (and trans men who pass) are not experiencing "transandrophobia" when a 'queer women and nbs" event turns them away at the door for being too masculine. they are. IN FACT!! experiencing the byproducts of misogyny in a patriarchy!!! where the terfs and coward cis women running those events and occupying those spaces have been taught (sometimes through experience, sometimes by men, sometimes by women) throughout life that men = stronger and more dangerous than women ALWAYS. That they need to protect themselves at all times and always be vigilant. That men and women can't be friends without sexual tension (and so as queer women the mere existence of what they perceive as a "man" is a threat). That women need a separate sports league because they can't possibly compete with someone who has even a little bit "extra" (an unquantifiable amount actually because there isn't a standard range) testosterone. The OP of that one post talking about it blocked me for pushing back on the idea that talking about transandrophobia makes you a transmisogynist. I'd like to share what's going on but I can't do that in such a context.

truthfully bro, a lot of writers wouldn’t write the stuff they do if their works weren’t at least a little self-coded. if a writer puts “chubby” or “black reader” or a specific gender in the tags it’s not your job to tell them they’re “wrong” for it - or that it’s not “canon”.

writers, just as much as readers, want representation and variation in the types of readers being written about. it would suck to never find a fic that makes you feel safe. so don’t hate on writers for putting specific aspects of readers in fics, just scroll and find something that suits you!

I told myself I’d never get involved in these kinds of discussion because I’m a firm believer in “You do you/No Kink shaming etc.” But this one is a fairly serious one. It’s long, I’m not putting a cut in there, but please just hear me out.

There’s a disturbing trend in some fic writing I’ve noticed lately, and I have to say something about it.

We all know I’m a sucker for dark fics, be it CNC, dubcon, even non-con and horror elements, so I’m not here trying to tone/content police people’s writing. I want to make it very clear that this is not about vilifying people who write dark stuff, or things I’m not into. Hell, if I don’t want to read something, I check the tags and warnings and nope out before I get the ick. (As everyone should, there’s no point getting yourself wound up or triggered by content you can just simply scroll by.) 

However, this is where my current concern comes in. 

I’ve seen lots of very prominent writers not giving adequate warnings or disclaimers about the content they write. 

I’ve come across a lot of content where Joel (sorry buddy you’re the worst offender here, Ilu tho) is being labelled as a dom – and even more worryingly labelled as a soft dom – when the relationship is not about safe dom/sub relationships/kink. 

If Joel is spanking you so hard you can’t sit down in lieu of “teaching you a lesson” when there’s clear lack of enthusiastic consent (or often any consent at all) this is not s/m, this is abuse. 

If you’re having your readers receive physical or sexual punishment for actual life slip ups/non-role play scenarios, you’re glorifying abuse.

If you’re not labelling your fics correctly, you’re being negligent to your readers, and this should be a safe space for us all to read and create without being unduly triggered because we had inadequate or no forewarning.

For example:

Javi P kisses a girl, you make him pay for it in a way that is clearly pre-established (you have to spell it out people) as consensual in your relationship? Kink.

Joel spanking the shit out of you because a man flirted with you in a bar? Abuse. 

Din edging you until you cry because you were competing in how much you could make the other jealous in a pre-agreed dynamic? Kink. 

Joel denying you sex, or fucking you without prep/making you cum because you did something to annoy him/he doesn’t agree with and you aren’t enjoying yourself? Abuse.

I thought we were over this with the discourse that came about around 50 Shades, but clearly not. So please, tag your fics with appropriate/adequate warnings. As a survivor of sexual abuse and grooming, I need to know if your fic is going to contain and/or glorify these things. Again, I’m not saying don’t write these things, but it is your responsibility to tag adequately.

It’s a simple concept that I see applied across the board with age gaps and power dynamics, and most of the time people get it right. But when posts with 1k+ interactions are explicitly abusive, with no warnings other than S/M dynamics or “soft dom!Joel” when it’s anything but soft, aren’t just triggering to some, they’re harmful.

You can’t have a healthy relationship with Joel (again sorry buddy) if that relationship contains thinly veiled or brazen abusive elements. 

If you don’t know the difference between coercive behaviour, sexual or physical abuse, and safe, consensual kink, you need to educate yourself for your own benefit, and that of your readers.

hot take but i think that "fictional characters are fictional and liking or disliking them have no real life effect" and "the way you treat certain characters can be an indicative of your character in real life" are statements that can and should coexist

example: character A is violent and makes misogynistic comments. they're still charismatic and their arc is interesting to read/watch. person A acknowledges that the character is bad but they still enjoy consuming content from the character and they do so unapologetically. they're allowed to like the character, especially considering that literally everyone the character has harmed is also fictional. they don't pretend the character isn't violent, or misogynistic, they just like the character despite that. they post about it constantly. this is a neutral action that shows nothing about person A.

character B is a white man that makes racist comments, treats a black person in the show badly and gains money through anti-ethical means. they're still charismatic and their arc is interesting to read/watch. person B claims the character is flawed but overall misunderstood and all their actions are entirely justified. they're allowed to like the character, especially considering that literally everyone the character has harmed is also fictional. person B claims the black character that character B treated badly either had it coming or overreacted. all of person B's favorite characters are white men. person B goes out of their way to justify that all of their favorite characters are actually misunderstood and good people, and more people should like them. this shows that person B likely has some favoritism for white men.

just. you're allowed to like fictional characters even if they're awful fucking people but. and im not sure why this is controversial. the way you interact with media says something about you. this isn't necessarily a bad thing. does this make sense please

in a similar vein to the non-verbal ghoulia discourse, there's a tiktok going around of someone swearing that g1 lagoona is canonically indigenous and g3 got rid of that

1. she is not, it's a harmless headcanon but it's not intended

2. lagoona can still be interpreted as indigenous-coded in g3, moreso than g1 imo, see: the episodes about the sea monster talisman (this person admits they haven't looked into g3 much; sounds awfully familiar)

3. this person said g3 lagoona is of spanish descent, which is untrue and ignorant as hell! she's honduran

4. the person saying all of these things is white, do with that what you will

a community where we can organize a callout post that thousands of people are guaranteed to see needs to do better for itself in the future. i am not speaking out against people who were hurt by the person mentioned in the original post because they are allowed to work through their hurt the way that they need. that being said, i think we can all admit that we need to do better for each other.

creating an anonymous account that can call anyone out (that has now spawned at least one other i've seen) is not the way we, as adults, should be handling things. i blocked the original posting account when it followed me because it was ageless and blank (therefore breaking rule number one of this community...). this is not an acceptable way to raise awareness of issues that have potential real world consequence.

inflammatory language is used in posts like these to get you fired up, to make you believe you're really fighting for something, and it's okay to be uncertain on if you agree with an issue or not until you really think about it. it's okay if you did rb it because it appealed to emotion and you have thought differently in the days that have passed.

the post circulated for HOURS on friday containing a false and potentially damaging allegation against someone who is not responsible for or consumed the content in question. are we not a little scared by that? you can now have thousands of people see a post about you simply because you're friends with someone?

the tags on that post are some of the worst of human nature. transphobic, homophobic, calling for doxxing and death...vile. so many people have seen a false allegation against flora who is worried she'll never be able to come back bc despite the correction that she wasn't involved, the damage was already done. this is just....i'm disappointed.

think critically about what you consume. consider the things that make you uncomfortable and why. do not engage with them if they make you uncomfortable after pondering to yourself. these are all rules that are age old on the internet and bear repeating.

also for the record: i am not anti aging up. i am not anti dc (dark content). if these are issues for anyone following me who would like to break mutuals or unfollow, there are zero hard feelings. you have to curate your online experience to your comfort and i would never fault someone for doing this.
