Knightriders (1981)
Tumblr media
watched this George A. Romero movie last night. hot damn. HOT damn. i was fully expecting for the first good... third? of its 2.5 hour runtime for them to get sent back in time or for the demons to start invading or what have you but no. it's just a loving and leisurely look at this weird-ass community set up by this weird-ass guy (Sir William, played by the inimitable Ed Harris) who had a vision that there should be a traveling ren faire where people beat the shit out of each other in knight costumes on dirtbikes.
movie is full of genuine moments and quiet tragedies, showcasing the desperation and commonalities that life in the margins living for a dream brings. brother blue, in his only acting role, plays merlin and manages to steal several scenes from ed harris. cynthia adler plays rocky, the only lady knight in the roster and she whips ass. shockingly gay-positive in a way that really connects the dots and threads the common grounds so maybe i shouldn't be saying "shockingly."

Concerning the latest in the TA Series:
Mallow recording a video with Ash in the background, with captions: Our tweets started a thirst trap trend with some Gym Leaders, Elite Fours, and Champions. Our TA refuses to say who is the hottest so we are seeing how he reacts to the Champion feed.
Ash: Diantha looks amazing in her new swimsuit her new personal shopper is top notch... Cynthia got a new car to pose on, nice... Adler is trying very hard with the GILF thing... Wallace got a new outfit... Steven made use of all those stones... Drake finally got that tattoo of the Shamouti Birds finished and it looks great... Lance's scars from his latest mission are healing...
Ash: **squeaks and slams phone down blushing**
Mallow's captions: HE GOT TO LEON WE HAVE A WINNER!
Ash: *still blushing* Leon's just objectively hot, okay. doesn't mean I... Mallow, who's this?
Mallow: Oh that's a Galar gym leader, I think his name is Raihan
Ash: now he's hot

Oh no you reblogged it too. :/ Well then. *cracks hands*
Irene Adler, Merrill, Rings of Power Tar-Miriel and at this point I have to ask him: Ishmael from Moby dick. (how many/if you want of course💜✨)
Hello! <3 And these are all great, thank you for asking! But definitely under 'the read more', this is going to be a little long.
Irene Adler
-First impression: talented opera singer that managed to outwit both Holmes and the king that was stalking her AND carve a happy life for herself + her husbands; “The Woman” indeed.
-Impression now: pretty much the same - although with age I've come to appreciate more the crossdressing subplot. You get the idea that it is something that she does quite often and enjoys (especially given the freedom that comes with it). This is also for the -headcanon/idea for a story section, but I hope that eventually some adaptation will explore the potentially queer aspect of it. No, not you, BBC.
- Unpopular opinion: maybe it's not a big deal NOW, but I still consider the aforementioned BBC adaptation one of the worst in terms of characterization. They managed to make it worse than a story written in the XIXth century, congrats!
- Favourite relationship: her canon husband seems to like her as she is- which is nice, so he can stay.
Merrill
- First impression: I almost didn't recognize her from her tiny cameo in Origins, ops. Beside that, as soon as the other dalish started badmouthing her I pretty much immediately switched into 'protective mode'.
- Impression now: she is brilliant! why nobody notices that! By trying to restore the eluvian she is actually doing a keeper's job, and she didn't even get possessed despite doing an internship with a spirit/demon - that's impressive. And sure, sometime she can be a little awkward, but she comes from a completely different culture compared to the other characters - of course she is awkward. It’s like moving from Abbiategrasso to Amsterdam, I’d be a little overwhelmed too.
- Favourite scene: The "I believe in you, Hawke" moment during The Last Straw - everybody is (understandably) a little torn and full of doubts and yet she is the first one to be 100% on your side.
- Headcanon/story: since she cleansed the Eluvian, I guess that it’s almost-canon that blood magic could cure the taint? It’s kind of a shame that her relationship with Anders doesn't progress past his prejudices (and a few admittedly nice but short dialogues), because then you'd have a dalish mage that actually knows how to deal with spirits and can potentially cure the taint AND a possessed mage/grey warden. It’s pretty much 80% of the magical plot condensed in two characters, come onnnn.
(same with the whole 'tranquility' thing, since we saw very early in the game that interacting with a spirit can, albeit temporarily, reverse it. No I'm not over that quest)
- Unpopular opinion: I wish the romance storyline was... better written? I would have been 1000% more supportive lol. No really, they emphasized how much Merrill idolizes Hawke, while I would have opted for a more equal relationship.
- Relationship: beside the romance option, I'd say Varric and Isabela. And special mention to Aveline – I know she is not a particularly popular character but some of her dialogues with Merrill are quite sweet.
Tar-Miriel
- First impression: Cynthia Addai-Robinson could stab me and I'd thank her for her time.
- Impression now: same :P no really, this character has a lot of regality and grace, like some sort of fragile strenght. She really felt like a Tolkien character, so to speak.
- Relationship: not romantic, but I enjoyed her clashes with Galadriel and Elendil, and the overall idealism VS political realism contrast.
- Favourite moment: the whole sequence with the falling white flowers, and her final parting with Galadriel - she looks like a byzantine empress 90% of the time, so it's hard to pick one.
- Story/headcanon: not much of an headcanon, but I hope that they'll show more of her ruling in Numenor.
- Unpopular opinion: I don't think i have any? Are there popular/unpopular opinion about her?
Ishmael
- First impression: The novel starts with him explaning that he sails to fight depression (“with a philosophical flourish Cato throws himself upon his sword; I quietly take to the ship”) so I immediately liked him. And "call me Ishmael"? - he is the one that tells the story and we don't even know his real name. The epitome of the unreliable narrator, and he tells you that himself.
- Impression now: Pretty much stayed consistent – I appreciate how he is the opposite of what people expected from a male character in a seafaring novel: introspective, melancholic and prone to philosophical musings, with an unconventional approach to religion (a lot), not particularly adventurous in the physical sense, and gay.
- Relationship: “Thus, then, in our hearts' honeymoon, lay I and Queequeg — a cosy, loving pair.” What can I add? It’s like a marriage, "until death to us part" and everything- and even after that, since Ishmael avoid drowning by clinging to Queequeg's coffin.
- Headcanon / idea for a story: I don't think I can write Moby Dick fanfiction, really. I’ll leave that to Vinicio Capossela lol.
- Unpopular opinion: I don't find Ishmael’s musings about whales boring? They are definitely not the worst part of the book (that's the XIXth century racism).
+ cute seal bonus if you read all that stuff, congrats!

Which guys from pokemon do you think would be the least likely to want kids, or be okay having an s/o that doesn't want to?
Buckle up this is gonna be one hell of a list, I’ll try to give a brief reason why it why not.
If you want a character that I missed lemme know.
Also my non binary ass saw ‘guys’ and went ‘ah yes, a neutral term.’
So some of the ladies are in here too.
-
-
Red - doesn’t want kids, he values his peace and quiet too much, and all his trips aren’t exactly safe for a child, his career and traveling would be put on hold for a kid, and that’s just not something he’d want.
Blue - wouldn’t mind either way, while not having a drive to have a kid, if it happens it happens and he’d be fine with it. Also completely fine with someone who doesn’t want kids.
Lance - wants at least one kid, he finds kids cute and wants to pass down the way of the clan of dragon masters.
Morty - he’s great with kids but doesn’t want one himself, he’s happy to be an cool uncle or brother to kids.
Norman - wouldn’t mind another.
Winona - wouldn’t ruin her career like that. She’s much too busy and is more focused on working.
Wallace - values his beauty sleep too much, and another one who’s busy. Sure he makes time for his partner, but a child requires much more attention than he can give.
Steven stone - has wanted a child but with his hectic life? And constantly being in the spot light? He doesn’t think it’s a good idea to thrust a child, who didn’t ask for this, into the spot light. He fine if his partner doesn’t want one either, he understands.
Archie - he’d be a fun dad, not actively trying for a kid but hey if it happens! But also chill if his partner doesn’t want one, he is a wanted criminal after all.
Matt - another fun dad, fun uncle, definitely wants kids and would be hurt if you didn’t.
Shelly - Absolutely not, she’s a cool aunt, absolutely loves spending time with Matt and Archie’s kid, but refuses to have any for herself. Would be upset if you wanted kids if anything.
Maxie - (ignore my headcanons rn) he doesn’t like babies or toddlers, he works best with older kids, therefore no.
Tabitha - wants kids and would try his best, but he’s kinda bummed if you don’t want kids, granted he gets it, again a criminal.
Courtney - like the villains before her, she doesn’t think she could take care of a kid properly with her situation, but also just doesn’t have a parental drive.
Volkner - he’d like to have a runt or two, though doesn’t complain if you don’t.
Flint - GIB CHILD. He’s a family man, definitely wants kids and doesn’t think a relationship will work if you don’t want any.
Cynthia - eh maybe, she probably hasn’t put much thought into it, like one doesn’t sound bad. Fine if you don’t want any
Cyrus - NO NO ABSOLUTELY NOT, if you want kids you’re shit out of luck, he refuses to ever have any.
Cheren - one kid please, he’d love to have a child to teach and love, he’d be disheartened if you didn’t want one, cause he really wants to have one.
Bianca - wants a large family! She’d love to have two or more! She’s got a few names in mind too!
Prof. Juniper - Mm I can see her being for either, want kids? Cool she’s fine with that, don’t want kids? Cool she’s fine with that.
Burgh - are his bug Pokémon not enough for you? Tragic.
Elesa - she’s good with kids and would like one, but doesn’t mind if you don’t, she’s a busy person after all, being a gym leader and a model, she understands.
Skyla - would like one! Please! She loves kids and would love to have one of her own.
Brycen - he’d like two, no particular reason why, but he’s a softie.
Drayden - doesn’t want any kids.
Grimsley - nope! He’s happy to be the child free uncle that brings dope gifts for holidays, but other than that no, he likes his freedom way too much.
Adler - another that wouldn’t mind having kids but can live without one.
Ingo - based entirely off his partner. He’s not one that falls in love easy, and falls out of love even harder, he wants you in his life permanently. He can be with someone who doesn’t want kids.
Emmet - he’s torn, on one hand kids! On the other all the problems/easily potential problems that come with that. Perfectly fine if you don’t want kids, that means more fun for you two!
Prof. Sycamore - loves kids, is great with kids, but is a coin toss away if he wants to have one or not.
Guzma/Plumeria - absolutely not, they aren’t stable enough for kids in anyway, and they already care for their grunts (which is questionable.)
Nanu - another no, please he’s old, he’s tired, he barely takes care of himself, what makes you think he’d be fit for a kid?
Molayne - he wouldn’t be hurt if you didn’t want a kid, and the relationship can still go on.
Milo - would like one!
Piers - he raised Marnie, he is parented out, please no.
Sonia - would absolutely want a few kids! Of course once she’s in a good spot in her career she’d love to start a family with you.
Nessa - one, but she’s not going to be upset of you don’t want any.
Kabu - isn’t against kids but he’s perfectly fine without any.
Melony - she’s already had a five, she’s tapped out. No more for her.
Raihan - wants at least one little dragon in training, more is also fine, but you not wanting any is cool too.
Leon - wants a big family, he’s a family man!
Everyone in legends Arceus all have had kids so none of them will be here.

Review For Forgotten Sisters by Cynthia (Cina) Pelayo
My oldest and I went to Chicago when they were six. It was Father’s Day weekend. I’ve wanted to go to Chicago since I was a kid. I’ve been a Blackhawks fan since I was in Mites. If you don’t know, I was seven or eight. I’ve been fascinated by it. By the lake, the river, and the sports teams. We went to the Adler Planetarium. We stayed at the Hotel Lincoln, where I had a ghost experience and…

Muppet MainStage October 6th, 2023
youtube
“You Do Something to Me” was originally written by Cole Porter in 1929 for the musical Fifty Million Frenchman. The song has made two appearances in the muppet show, but we will be discussing the second one.
“You Do Something to Me” was performed by Svengali (John Lovelady) and his assistant (Cynthia Adler). The assistant sings the song while Svengali uses magic to transform her body into different things. Finally at the end, he transforms her head into one that looks like his and the assistant (now performed by Eren Ozker) thanks him for fixing her before she finishes out the song.

Ultra Guardian Lance because how DARE Lusamine put his surrogate son; Ash, into being a Ultra Guardian for capturing Ultra Beasts. He is BEYOND pissed and makes certain she's FULLY aware of it. Ultra Guardian Steven as the big brother that has no problem constantly throwing shade at Lusamine, Leon and Cynthia being Ultra Guardians that are terrifying duo~ Ultra Guardians Iris, Adler and Wallace creating so much chaos. And Ultra Guardian Diantha who doesn't need to do anything to scare people.
For Alola to suddenly have every other champion and then some as their protectors from the new ultra beasts is terrifying yet funny to think about

In post-Soviet Russia, there is a persistent trend to repress, control, or even co-opt national history. By reshaping memory to suit a politically convenient narrative, Russia has fashioned a good future out of a "bad past."
While Putin's regime has acquired nearly complete control over interpretations of the past, Anton Weiss-Wendt and Nanci Adler's edited volume The Future of the Soviet Past: The Politics of History in Putin's Russia (Indiana UP, 2021) reveals that Russia's inability to fully rewrite its Soviet history plays an essential part in its current political agenda. Diverse contributors consider the many ways in which public narrative shapes Russian culture—from cinema, television, and music to museums, legislature, and education—as well as how patriotism reflected in these forms of culture implies a casual acceptance of the valorization of Stalin and his role in World War II.
The Future of the Soviet Past provides effective and nuanced examples of how Russia has reimagined its Soviet history as well as how that past still influences Russia's policymaking.
Cynthia M. Horne is a Professor of Political Science at Western Washington University.
