There are many web hosting companies to choose from if you're taking the plunge into making your own website with a comic content management system (CMS) like ComicControl or Grawlix, a Wordpress comic theme like Toocheke or ComicPress, or a HTML template to cut/paste code like Rarebit. While these solutions are generally free, finding a home for them is... generally not. It can be hard to choose what's best for your webcomic AND your budget!
We took a look at a few of the top hosting services used by webcomics creators using webcomic CMSes, and we put out a poll to ask your feedback about your hosts!
This post may be updated as time goes on as new services enter the hosting arena, or other important updates come to light.
Questions:
💻 I can get a free account with Wix/Squarespace/Carrd, could I just use those for my comic? - Web hosts like this may have gallery functions that could be adapted to display a series of pages, but they are very basic and not intended for webcomics.
📚 Wait, I host on Webtoon, Tapas, Comic Fury, or some other comic website, why are they not here? - Those are comic platforms! We'll get into those in a future post!
🕵️♀️Why does it say "shared hosting"? Who am I sharing with? - "Shared hosting" refers to sharing the server space with other customers. They will not have access to your files or anything, so it is perfectly fine to use for most comic CMSes. You may experience slowing if there is too much activity on a server, so if you're planning to host large files or more than 10 comics, you may want to upgrade to a more robust plan in the future.
Web Host List
Neocities
Basic plan pricing: Free or $5/month. Free plan has more restrictions (1 GB space, no custom domain, and slower bandwidth, among other things)
Notes: Neocities does not have database support for paid or free accounts, and most comic CMS solutions require this (ComicCtrl, Grawlix, Wordpress). You will need to work with HTML/CSS files directly to make a website and post each page.
Hostinger
Basic plan pricing: $11.99/month or $7.99/month with four year commitment (monthly, 1, 2, and 4 year plans available).
Notes: Free domain for the 1st year. Free SSL Certifications. Weekly backups.
KnownHost
Basic plan pricing: $8.95/month or $7.99/month with four year commitment (monthly, 1, 2, and 4 year plans available).
Notes: Free DDOS protection. Free SSL Certifications.
InMotion Hosting
Basic plan pricing: $12.99/month or $9.99/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, and 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free SSL Certifications, free domain names for 1 and 3 year plans. 24/7 live customer service and 90-day money-back guarantee. Inmotion also advertises eco-friendly policies: We are the first-ever Green Data Center in Los Angeles. We cut cooling costs by nearly 70 percent and reduce our carbon output by more than 2,000 tons per year.
Reviews:
👍“I can't remember it ever going down.”
👍“InMotion has a pretty extensive library full of various guides on setting up and managing websites, servers, domains, etc. Customer service is also fairly quick on responding to inquiries.” 👎“I wish it was a bit faster with loading pages.”
Ionos Hosting
Basic plan pricing: $8/month or $6/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, 2 and 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free domain for the first year, free SSL Certification, Daily backup and recovery is included. Site Scan and Repair is free for the first 30 days and then is $6/month.
Reviews:
👍“Very fast and simple” 👎“Customer service is mediocre and I can't upload large files”
Bluehost
Basic plan pricing: $15.99/month or $4.95/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free domain and SSL certificates (for first year only). 24/7 Customer Service. Built to handle higher traffic websites. Although they specialize in Wordpress websites and provide updates automatically, that's almost a bad thing for webcomic plugins because they will often break your site. Their cloud hosting services are currently in early access with not much additional information available.
Reviews:
👎"The fees keep going up. Like I could drop $100 to cover a whole year, but now I'm paying nearly $100 for just three months. It's really upsetting."
👎"I have previously used Bluehost’s Wordpress hosting service and have had negative experiences with the service, so please consider with a grain of salt. I can confirm at least that their 24/7 customer service was great, although needed FAR too often."
Dreamhost
Basic plan pricing: $7.99/month or $5.99/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free SSL Certificates, 24/7 support with all plans, 97-day moneyback guarantee. Not recommended for ComicCtrl CMS
Reviews:
👍“They've automatically patched 2 security holes I created/allowed by mistake.” 👍“Prices are very reasonable” 👎 “back end kind of annoying to use” 👎 “wordpress has some issues” 👎 “it's not as customizable as some might want“
GoDaddy
Basic plan pricing: $11.99/month or $9.99/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, 2, and 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free 24/7 Customer service with all plans, Free SSL Certificates for 1 year, free domain and site migration.
Reviews:
👍Reasonable intro prices for their Economy hosting, which has 25GB of storage 👍Migrated email hosting service from cPanel to Microsoft Office, which has greater support but may not be useful for most webcomic creators. 👎 Many site issues and then being upsold during customer service attempts. 👎 Server quality found lacking in reviews 👎 Marketing scandals in the past with a reputation for making ads in poor taste. Have been attempting to clean up that image in recent years. 👎 “GoDaddy is the McDonald's of web hosting. Maybe the Wal-Mart of hosting would be better. If your website was an object you would need a shelf to put it on. You go to Wal-Mart and buy a shelf. It's not great. It's not fancy. It can only hold that one thing. And if we're being honest - if the shelf broke and your website died it wouldn't be the end of the world. The issue comes when you don't realize GoDaddy is the Wal-Mart of hosting. You go and try to do things you could do with a quality shelf. Like, move it. Or add more things to it.” MyWorkAccountThisIs on Reddit*
Things to consider for any host:
💸 Introductory/promotional pricing - Many hosting companies offer free or inexpensive deals to get you in the door, and then raise the cost for these features after the first year or when you renew. The prices in this post are the base prices that you can expect to pay after the promotional prices end, but may get outdated, so you are encouraged to do your own research as well.
💻 Wordpress hosting - Many of the companies below will have a separate offering for Wordpress-optimized hosting that will keep you updated with the latest Wordpress releases. This is usually not necessary for webcomic creators, and can be the source of many site-breaking headaches when comic plugins have not caught up to the latest Wordpress releases.
Any basic hosting plan on this list will be fine with Wordpress, but expect to stop or revert Wordpress versions if you go with this as your CMS.
🤝 You don't have to go it alone - While free hosts may be more limited, paid hosting on a web server will generally allow you to create different subdomains, or attach additional purchased domains to any folders you make. If you have other comic-making friends you know and trust, you can share your server space and split the cost!
Want to share your experience?
Feel free to contribute your hosting pros, cons, and quirks on our survey! We will be updating our list periodically with your feedback!

Oh yes — that’s the legendary CIA Triad in cybersecurity. It’s not about spies, but about the three core principles of keeping information secure. Let’s break it down with some flair:
⸻
1. Confidentiality
Goal: Keep data private — away from unauthorized eyes.
Think of it like locking away secrets in a vault. Only the right people should have the keys.
Examples:
• Encryption
• Access controls
• Two-factor authentication (2FA)
• Data classification
Threats to it:
• Data breaches
• Shoulder surfing
• Insider threats
⸻
2. Integrity
Goal: Ensure data is accurate and trustworthy.
No tampering, no unauthorized changes — the data you see is exactly how it was meant to be.
Examples:
• Checksums & hashes
• Digital signatures
• Version control
• Audit logs
Threats to it:
• Malware modifying files
• Man-in-the-middle attacks
• Corrupted files from system failures
⸻
3. Availability
Goal: Data and systems are accessible when needed.
No point in having perfect data if you can’t get to it, right?
Examples:
• Redundant systems
• Backup power & data
• Load balancing
• DDoS mitigation tools
Threats to it:
• Denial-of-service (DoS/DDoS) attacks
• Natural disasters
• Hardware failure
⸻
Why it matters?
Every cybersecurity policy, tool, and defense strategy is (or should be) built to support the CIA Triad. If any one of these pillars breaks, your system’s security is toast.
Want to see how the CIA Triad applies to real-world hacking cases or a breakdown of how you’d protect a small business network using the Triad? I got you — just say the word.

Why is Cloudflare blocking me?
Cloudflare is a content delivery network (CDN) and security service that helps protect websites from various threats, such as DDoS attacks, malicious bots, and hackers. If Cloudflare is blocking you, it’s likely because the security settings on the website you’re trying to access have identified your connection as potentially suspicious or harmful. Some common reasons for Cloudflare blocking your access include:
IP reputation: Cloudflare maintains a list of IP addresses known for spam, hacking attempts, or other malicious activities. If your IP address is on this list or has a poor reputation, you may be blocked.
High security settings: The website owner might have set their Cloudflare security settings to a high level, causing more aggressive filtering of incoming traffic. In such cases, even legitimate users might be blocked or challenged.
Rate limiting: Cloudflare can block or limit access from IP addresses that make too many requests within a short period, as this can indicate a DDoS attack or automated scraping attempts.
Browser or user agent issues: Using an outdated browser, a non-standard user agent, or having disabled cookies and JavaScript might trigger Cloudflare’s security measures.
VPN or proxy usage: Using VPNs, proxies, or Tor can sometimes cause Cloudflare to flag your connection as suspicious, as these tools are often used to hide malicious activities.
Firewall rules: The website owner may have set specific firewall rules in Cloudflare that block certain IP addresses, countries, or user agents.
To resolve the issue, you can try the following:
Clear your browser cache and cookies, and ensure JavaScript is enabled.
Update your browser to the latest version or try using a different browser.
Temporarily disable your VPN or proxy, if you are using one.
Check your internet connection and restart your modem or router to obtain a new IP address.
If you suspect your IP address has been mistakenly flagged, you can contact the website owner or Cloudflare support to request a review of your IP address.
Remember that these measures are in place to protect websites and their users from security threats. While blocking can be frustrating, the intent is to maintain a safe online environment for everyone.

Help Protect the Internet Archive!
“If our patrons around the globe think this latest situation is upsetting, then they should be very worried about what the publishing and recording industries have in mind,” added Kahle. “I think they are trying to destroy this library entirely and hobble all libraries everywhere. But just as we’re resisting the DDoS attack, we appreciate all the support in pushing back on this unjust litigation against our library and others.”
I just donated to Archive.org because they have spent the past two decades building this Digital Library that has collected over 100 PETRAbytes (1 petra = 1000 tera) of content from all over time and the world.
All kinds of media, even game emulators.
Books you can rent.
Full feature films.
Historical documents.
Webpages - The Wayback Machine, archiving over 860mill webpages across time, is part of the library.
The have a slew of projects designed to help allow libraries and everyday individuals contribute to this library as well as help give everyone access like Offline Archive , Bookserver - even in unique ways like with the Bookmobile!
They are also under attack though, which is what encouraged me to contribute today. Libraries across the US, and lets be real - access to education in many areas of the world - is under attack. I do suspect not just DDoS, not just businesses, but even governments seeking to oppress people will try to suppress this archive and the knowledge is holds.
While you can donate there are other ways to help:
Volunteering is an option, if that fits your bill. If you have collections that should be digitized, they have Scanning Services that would help people contribute non-digitized media to the archive. Also the aptly named Open Library is a great place to contribute either with books or if you are a programmer you can build on top of the data as well. There are also some jobs available! (i can't be sure without their info, but they may qualify as a PSLF employer since they are non-profit)
Archive.org is my new favorite place of all time. Both because of the content but also because of the mission at the heart of it all:
The Internet Archive, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form. Like a paper library, we provide free access to researchers, historians, scholars, people with print disabilities, and the general public. Our mission is to provide Universal Access to All Knowledge.

DAYS!#ive found not only memory lane where i could revisit my childhood. i found all kinda other streets paths alleyways ramps sewers the works!#infinite library

IoT Security Challenges in India: Protecting Smart Homes & Connected Devices
IoT is transforming the way people live by making their homes smart with devices such as security cameras, smart locks, and voice assistants. In India, IoT technology is adopted at a pace that cyber threats are rising rapidly. With weak security protocols, outdated software, and unawareness, Indian households are vulnerable to cyberattacks. In this blog, we will explore the major IoT security challenges in India and how individuals can safeguard their smart homes and connected devices. If you are looking to strengthen your understanding of cybersecurity, enrolling in a cyber security course can be a game-changer.
The IoT Boom in India
India is witnessing the highest adoption of IoT across homes and businesses. From smart TVs to intelligent thermostats, IoT is revolutionizing life. This booming technology, however, offers a large target size for hackers too who exploit the vulnerability of devices to gain unauthorized access to data.
Fundamental Drivers of IoT Adoption in India:
Increased internet penetration with low-priced data plans
Government initiatives such as Smart Cities Mission and Digital India
Increasing adoption of smart home devices as they become increasingly affordable
Growing application of industrial IoT in health, agriculture, and manufacturing
Chief IoT Security Challenges in India
Poor Authentication & Default Passwords
Most IoT devices have a factory-set password that the user ignores or fails to change. Hackers exploit these default credentials to take over the devices, entry private networks, and crack sensitive information.
Lack of Security Updates & Patches
Most smart devices have limited or no firmware updates, which makes them vulnerable to cyber threats. Many Indian consumers do not check for security updates, leaving their devices susceptible to known exploits.
Data Privacy Concerns
Smart devices collect vast amounts of personal data, from voice recordings to daily routines. Without stringent data protection policies, this information can be misused or leaked by malicious actors.
Botnet Attacks & DDoS Threats
Cybercriminals hijack unprotected IoT devices to form botnets, which are used to launch massive Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. These attacks can cripple networks and cause disruptions to online services.
Unsecured Wi-Fi Networks
Many Indian households rely on poorly secured Wi-Fi connections, providing an easy entry point for hackers. Without encryption or strong passwords, attackers can intercept sensitive information and compromise connected devices.
Absence of Specific Cybersecurity Legislation for IoT
India has advanced in data protection with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, but there is no dedicated IoT security framework. The absence of it leaves the manufacturer to choose cost over security and sell devices which are not so well protected in the market.
How to Secure Smart Homes & Connected Devices
Change Default Credentials
Always change the default usernames and passwords of the IoT after installation. Use strong, unique passwords and implement multi-factor authentication wherever possible.
Update Firmware Periodically
Scan for software and security updates on all smart devices, and install them as soon as they are available. In case your device can no longer get any updates, consider replacing it with a newer version that is at least as secure.
Secure Your Wi-Fi Network
Use a robust Wi-Fi password, and make sure WPA3 encryption is turned on. Limit remote access to your router, and make an IoT-specific network so that those devices can't contaminate your primary network.
Firewall & Security Solutions The use of firewalls and network security solutions monitors traffic and can block malicious activity on IoT networks. 5. Limit Data Sharing & Permissions
Assess permission for smart appliances and reduce or limit the devices from accessing unsecured personal information. De-activate unused add-ons, remote access in devices.
Cyber Security Courses
IoT-based cyber-attacks are minimized if awareness against the threat builds. To boost that awareness further, take time out to become a certified graduate of cyber security by signing for courses in areas like best security practices, principles of ethical hacking, and defending digital systems.
Road Ahead to Improving Indian IoT Security:
The Indian government, device manufacturers, and consumers must take proactive steps to mitigate IoT security risks. Stronger security standards, public awareness, and robust cybersecurity laws are the need of the hour to secure the future of IoT in India.
Conclusion
IoT devices offer incredible convenience but also introduce significant security risks. Protecting smart homes and connected devices requires a combination of best practices, awareness, and robust cybersecurity measures. By staying informed and adopting the right security strategies, individuals can ensure a safer IoT experience.
If you’re passionate about cybersecurity and want to build expertise in protecting digital systems, consider taking a cyber security course to gain hands-on knowledge and skills in ethical hacking, network security, and data protection.

The social network X suffered intermittent outages on Monday, a situation owner Elon Musk attributed to a “massive cyberattack.” Musk said in an initial X post that the attack was perpetrated by “either a large, coordinated group and/or a country.” In a post on Telegram, a pro-Palestinian group known as Dark Storm Team took credit for the attacks within a few hours. Later on Monday, though, Musk claimed in an interview on Fox Business Network that the attacks had come from Ukrainian IP addresses.
Web traffic analysis experts who tracked the incident on Monday were quick to emphasize that the type of attacks X seemed to face—distributed denial-of-service, or DDoS, attacks—are launched by a coordinated army of computers, or a “botnet,” pummeling a target with junk traffic in an attempt to overwhelm and take down its systems. Botnets are typically dispersed around the world, generating traffic with geographically diverse IP addresses, and they can include mechanisms that make it harder to determine where they are controlled from.
“It’s important to recognize that IP attribution alone is not conclusive. Attackers frequently use compromised devices, VPNs, or proxy networks to obfuscate their true origin," says Shawn Edwards, chief security officer of the network connectivity firm Zayo.
X did not return WIRED's requests for comment about the attacks.
Multiple researchers tell WIRED that they observed five distinct attacks of varying length against X's infrastructure, the first beginning early Monday morning with the final burst on Monday afternoon.
The internet intelligence team at Cisco's ThousandEyes tells WIRED in a statement, “During the disruptions, ThousandEyes observed network conditions that are characteristic of a DDoS attack, including significant traffic loss conditions which would have hindered users from reaching the application.”
DDoS attacks are common, and virtually all modern internet services experience them regularly and must proactively defend themselves. As Musk himself put it on Monday, “We get attacked every day.” Why, then, did these DDoS attacks cause outages for X? Musk said it was because “this was done with a lot of resources,” but independent security researcher Kevin Beaumont and other analysts see evidence that some X origin servers, which respond to web requests, weren't properly secured behind the company's Cloudflare DDoS protection and were publicly visible. As a result, attackers could target them directly. X has since secured the servers.
“The botnet was directly attacking the IP and a bunch more on that X subnet yesterday. It's a botnet of cameras and DVRs,” Beaumont says.
A few hours after the final attack concluded, Musk told Fox Business host Larry Kudlow in an interview, “We're not sure exactly what happened, but there was a massive cyberattack to try to bring down the X system with IP addresses originating in the Ukraine area.”
Musk has mocked Ukraine and its president, Volodymyr Zelensky, repeatedly since Russia invaded its neighbor in February 2022. A major campaign donor to President Donald Trump, Musk now heads the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, which has razed the US federal government and its workforce in the weeks since Trump's inauguration. Meanwhile, the Trump administration has recently warmed relations with Russia and moved the US away from its longtime support of Ukraine. Musk has already been involved in these geopolitics in the context of a different company he owns, SpaceX, which operates the satellite internet service Starlink that many Ukrainians rely on.
DDoS traffic analysis can break down the firehose of junk traffic in different ways, including by listing the countries that had the most IP addresses involved in an attack. But one researcher from a prominent firm, who requested anonymity because they are not authorized to speak about X, noted that they did not even see Ukraine in the breakdown of the top 20 IP address origins involved in the X attacks.
If Ukrainian IP addresses did contribute to the attacks, though, numerous researchers say that the fact alone is not noteworthy.
“What we can conclude from the IP data is the geographic distribution of traffic sources, which may provide insights into botnet composition or infrastructure used,” Zayo’s Edwards says. “What we can’t conclude with certainty is the actual perpetrator’s identity or intent.”

I get that your favorite pet site being DDOS'd is stressful, but some of you need to take off your tinfoil hats about the DDOS thing. DDOSing is an incredibly common internet occurrence. One time a rabbit care forum I was on was overwhelmed for over a week solid, for some reason, and then it just went away. All that happens is you can't access the site if the protection service is lousy or the webmaster decides to shut service off to wait out the weirdos. It's dirt cheap to run a service-denial attack. People do it for fun. There is absolutely NO proof that those people who claimed credit for the AO3 attack were the ones actually behind it. There is NO proof they are the ones flooding FR. DDOSing is a crime and any sane person isn't going to admit to it in public. There is even less evidence supporting the theory that it's a state sponsored extortion attack targeting niche pet sites comprised mostly of minors with no personal income. I cannot emphasize enough that these sorts of attacks are extremely commonplace on the internet, and just because nearly all major social networking/streaming is owned by the same mega-corporation who can afford absurd levels of ddos mitigation doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
If you don't' believe me please feel free to research it yourself before getting panicked over FR getting DDOS'd. Technically the userbase has accidentally DDOS'd it offline several times in the past during big releases lol. It's just a petty thing that weirdos on the internet do to try and disrupt service, it can get expensive depending on how dedicated said weirdo is, but it's not going to bug out the servers to the point they'll be unusable and user data will be wiped (unless they're already barely functional, but that's another issue). It literally just prevents people from accessing the site by overloading traffic. Like trying to fit too many people through a doorway. Seems like the attacks are over already anyway. Frankly with how popular FR is I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner lol. If you see the numbers spiking again just take a breath and relax, it's just a waiting game! Inconvenient, but nothing that will kill the site.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Cyber National Mission Force (CNMF), and National Security Agency (NSA) assess that People’s Republic of China (PRC)-linked cyber actors have compromised thousands of Internet-connected devices, including small office/home office (SOHO) routers, firewalls, network-attached storage (NAS) and Internet of Things (IoT) devices with the goal of creating a network of compromised nodes (a “botnet”) positioned for malicious activity. The actors may then use the botnet as a proxy to conceal their identities while deploying distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks or compromising targeted U.S. networks.
Integrity Technology Group, a PRC-based company, has controlled and managed a botnet active since mid- 2021. The botnet has regularly maintained between tens to hundreds of thousands of compromised devices. As of June 2024, the botnet consisted of over 260,000 devices. Victim devices part of the botnet have been observed in North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Southeast Asia and Australia.
While devices aged beyond their end-of-life dates are known to be more vulnerable to intrusion, many of the compromised devices in the Integrity Tech controlled botnet are likely still supported by their respective vendors.
FBI, CNMF, NSA, and allied partners are releasing this Joint Cyber Security Advisory to highlight the threat posed by these actors and their botnet activity and to encourage exposed device vendors, owners, and operators to update and secure their devices from being compromised and joining the botnet. Network defenders are advised to follow the guidance in the mitigations section to protect against the PRC-linked cyber actors’ botnet activity. Cyber security companies can also leverage the information in this advisory to assist with identifying malicious activity and reducing the number of devices present in botnets worldwide.
For additional information, see U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) press release....

The internet sites of several French cities and at least one department were inaccessible Tuesday after a group of hackers claimed attacks they described as retaliation for French support for Ukraine.
At 1600 GMT, the sites of the cities of Marseille and Tarbes were down, as was the site of the department of Haute-Garonne.
The attacks were claimed on X by a hackers group calling themselves NoName, a collective already known for other attacks and for defending Russian points of view.
On their X account, the hackers claimed to have also attacked the sites of cities such as Nantes, Bordeaux, Poitiers, Pau, Nimes, Nice, Angers, Le Havre, and Montpellier, as well as the department of Les Landes, French Polynesia and New Caledonia, but there were all still operating Tuesday.
The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, confirmed on X that the city's website had been targeted.
Marseille's town hall told AFP that the servers that host the city's websites had been subject to attacks that required them to enact "protection mechanisms that had the consequence of making them inaccessible".
The cities of Pau and Angers, as well as the Landes department, said they had not noticed any incidents.
DDoS attacks, or "distributed denial of service", are frequently used by NoName in a technique that involves saturating sites with a huge number of automatic requests that render them inoperable.
The attacks generally do not involve stealing data.
Benoit Grunemwald, a cybersecurity expert at ESET, said the goal appears to be propaganda by "creating an impression of a climate of digital insecurity".
