“If our patrons around the globe think this latest situation is upsetting, then they should be very worried about what the publishing and recording industries have in mind,” added Kahle. “I think they are trying to destroy this library entirely and hobble all libraries everywhere. But just as we’re resisting the DDoS attack, we appreciate all the support in pushing back on this unjust litigation against our library and others.”
I just donated to Archive.org because they have spent the past two decades building this Digital Library that has collected over 100 PETRAbytes (1 petra = 1000 tera) of content from all over time and the world.
All kinds of media, even game emulators.
Books you can rent.
Full feature films.
Historical documents.
Webpages - The Wayback Machine, archiving over 860mill webpages across time, is part of the library.
The have a slew of projects designed to help allow libraries and everyday individuals contribute to this library as well as help give everyone access like Offline Archive , Bookserver - even in unique ways like with the Bookmobile!
They are also under attack though, which is what encouraged me to contribute today. Libraries across the US, and lets be real - access to education in many areas of the world - is under attack. I do suspect not just DDoS, not just businesses, but even governments seeking to oppress people will try to suppress this archive and the knowledge is holds.
While you can donate there are other ways to help:
Volunteering is an option, if that fits your bill. If you have collections that should be digitized, they have Scanning Services that would help people contribute non-digitized media to the archive. Also the aptly named Open Library is a great place to contribute either with books or if you are a programmer you can build on top of the data as well. There are also some jobs available! (i can't be sure without their info, but they may qualify as a PSLF employer since they are non-profit)
Archive.org is my new favorite place of all time. Both because of the content but also because of the mission at the heart of it all:
The Internet Archive, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form. Like a paper library, we provide free access to researchers, historians, scholars, people with print disabilities, and the general public. Our mission is to provide Universal Access to All Knowledge.
ROSE: Don't you understand!? The human race IS an endless number of monkeys. And every day we produce an endless number of words. And one of us already wrote Hamlet!
So, one of my friends who's been trying to get me into Warhammer 40k recently bought both himself & his wife an entire haul of 40k books. (I honestly should've taken pictures, the haul was that beutiful) One of the books he got was The Infinite And The Divine which, for the record, he damn well knew it's one of the books I wanted to read. Long story short, he's letting me borrow it & I'm already on chapter 3.
Aether's not-Koopa is this little dink, a rodent that also happens to make an live inside something like a snail shell. It only very existed as a sprite this small, but it was fun to uprez it a but.
They do grow to enormous sizes as well so this could be an actual size chart, with the top of the little Arroba's shell reaching up to Eszett's eyes for more comparison.
''And I wonder: in how many infinite sets of worlds will I take one more step? And how many countless versions of me will turn around instead, and walk out of this room? Who exactly am I saving from shame, when I'll live and die in every possible way?
Myself.''
Greg Egan, 'The Infinite Assassin' (Axiomatic, 1990).
they’re lowk crazy lonely so they create living dolls to make up for that, and when MC comes along to the front door of their domain they’re like 😳😏
this would be a route in the game and you can get 3 routes with Ona:
they kill you and then theirself binding the both of you to their domain
if you’re too nice to them they’ll get too excited and then drug your tea and you’ll be trapped
stay with them
convince them to come with you on your journey
escape their domain, they’ll follow you around making the game much harder(if you lose you’ll either get the first one or they just lock you away in their domain)
I think after his stint on the USS Horrible Unending Nightmare, Eiffel probably has an aversion to cold and quiet. Hera cheerfully reroutes power from Hilbert's quarters to heat his room past regulation levels and pipes her progress through all of written human history through the speakers at night. Minkowski swings by his quarters a few times just to make sure he's still there and is baffled to hear Hera reciting Borges in the original Spanish. She's made it up to B.
Postcanon I don't know if he would still instinctively prefer these things or if he'd get to his new bunk on the Urania and ask "why is it so hot in here?" Either option is kind of sad.
"...I think I no longer believe in monsters as faces in the floor or feral infants or vampires or whatever. I think at seventeen now I believe the only real monsters might be the type of liar where there's simply no way to tell. The ones who give nothing away.”
