Sakyo: It’s not just those two, we need to show the entire audience the best play possible.

Izumi: (A few years before Saku leaves the ANIMS ship… This takes place before Dee received his code name “Doug”.)

Izumi: (Out of these crew members, only Dee and the oddball Saku don’t have code names.)

Izumi: (Ted, a childhood friend of Dee’s, was one of the first to receive his name, “Tig”, out of the crew members. This makes Dee even more impatient.)

Izumi: (Dee, frustrated with this, has an outburst at Tig’s father, the captain of the ship, Bear.)

Dee: “Why the hell do Rat and Bat get names, but not me!?”

Rat: “Sorry, Dee. We’re just ahead of you~.”

Bear: “Until you figure out the reason, you’ll always be half a man.”

Bat: “I mean, what’s the point of the code names anyway?”

Rat: “As part of ANIMS, getting your animal code name is a sign that you’re independent. I think you broke the record for being the youngest, Bat.”

Bat: “Huh.”

Rat: “That was the weakest reaction ever! Well, you are a certified communicator. No wonder you’re so sought after.”

Bat: “I mean, you got your code name almost as soon as you boarded the ship, didn’t you, Rat?”

Rat: “‘Cause I’m just that good~.”

Dee: “I could get certified if I wanted…”

Bear: “We already have enough communicators. If you want to be one, look elsewhere for work.”

Dee: “Tch.”

Tig: “Dee, you haven’t cleaned the decks yet. Don’t make Saku do it all by himself.”

Dee: “Fuck off, I know!”

Dan: “Dee, I think you’re just snappin’ at Bear again.”

Dee: “Shut up. And if I am?”

Woll: “Bull’s-eye.”

Dan: “Guess I won that bet.”

Woll: “No helpin’ it. That’s a big win for you.”

Dee: “I ain’t a horse for you to bet on.”

Dee: “All of you treat me like I’m stupid. Pretty sure Saku and I are the only ones on the ship who don’t have code names.”

Saku: “What’s that about me?”

Dee: “Doesn’t it make you feel pathetic that we’re always just treated like we’re not really pirates?”

Saku: “I’ve never really thought about it… I guess I’m not necessarily unhappy with my current position or anything…”

Dee: “Tch, stop fucking joking about me bein’ on the same level as someone unreliable like that.”

Dee: “If none of you are gonna admit it, then I’ll make you admit it. I’ll make you admit that I’m a man worthy of ANIMS.”

Tig: “Dee, clean the decks.”

Dee: “Just fuck off, I’m doin’ it now!”

Tig: “Haah, what the hell?”

Bear: “He’s been like that ever since his father died. You’d better keep an eye on him.”

Tig: “Why me?”

Bear: “You already know why.”

Izumi: (Dee is getting increasingly frustrated with Woll and Dan teasing him. He’s much more childish and brazen than in the original.)

Dan: “That’s our target this time, Ralph’s ship.”

Bear: “Way to go, Dan. You’ve got us in a good position.”

Dee: “But I’ve got no clue what kinda things rich people like. Are we really goin’ to war with that ship?”

Tig: “It just for appearances. They don’t even have any weapons.”

Bear: “Alright, for our scouts--.”

Dee: “I’ll go.”

Bear: “Tig.”

Tig: “Roger that.”

Bear: “Dee, you’ll be with me.”

Dee: “The fuck!? Why!?”

Tig: “Shut up. Obey the captain’s orders.”

Bear: “Rat, provide logistical support. Bat, stay with the ship and jam any rescue signals.”

Rat: “Aye aye, Sir.”

Bat: “Understood.”

Bear: “Everyone else, rush in as soon as Tig attacks.”

Woll: “Aye aye, Captain.”

Tig: “Don’t do anythin’ uncalled for, Dee.”

Dee: “Shut the fuck up.”

Tig: “That bastard-- Can I take Unit Two?”

Rat: “Uhm, yeah, probably.”

Dan: “Unit Three will be on standby, just in case.”

Tig: “Thanks.”

Tig: “Unit Two, launchin’ in three, two, one--.”

Tig: “Dee! Stop actin’ so selfishly!”

Ralph: “!? W-What was that!?”

Subordinate: “Pirates!”

Ralph: “H-Hurry up and do something quickly!”

Dee: “Hah! Perfect. Nowhere to run. Now all I’ve gotta do is get in and--.”

Tig: “Dee! Three planes incomin’ at two o’clock!”

Dee: “The hell? I thought they didn’t have any weapons. I never heard anythin’ about there bein’ an escort.”

Dee: “Whatever, I’ll deal with the three planes myself.”

*Lazers firing*

Tig: “Dee, don’t go alone!”

Dee: “I’ve got it under control.”

*Explosion*

Dee: “Aight, one down. Now for the rest--.”

*Explosion*

Tig: “Dee!”

Dee: “--Gh.”

Dan: “Coming in on Unit Three for backup.”

Dee: “Dan!? What are you doin’--?”

Rat: “Likewise, I’ll cover you, please rescue Dee, Tig!”

Tig: “Roger that.”

Dee: “--Shit, now everyone’s involved, this is bad.”

Izumi: (And as a result, ANIMS is forced to withdraw…)

Bear: “Dee, your selfish actions put the whole crew in danger. Are you aware of that?”

Dee: “--Yes.”

Bear: “Your father, Bull, was honestly one of the worst leaders I’ve ever seen.”

Bear: “He was the first to jump into danger, and his first priority was always protecting his comrades by bringing up the rear.”

Bear: “‘After I’m gone, you’ll still be here, Bear. Dee will have you, so I don’t have to worry.’ That’s what he used to say.”

Bear: “Every day I stood next to him as his second-in-command made my anxious as all hell, but I was proud to be there.”

Bear: “Dee, think it over again as to why you’re not recognized as a full man.”

Bear: “You have to be aware and responsible if you ever want to lead ANIMS as captain one day.”

Dee: “Me…?”

Tig: “Why are you surprised? Hasn’t this always been your plan? You’ve been sayin’ that you wanted to be captain ever since we were kids.”

Rat: “Well, but you’re still just half a man right now!”

Dan: “At this rate, you won’t get your code name and become captain until you’re an old man.”

Bat: “And no one wants a captain like that.”

Woll: “Haha. You’re gonna have to really work at it.”

Dee: “Guys… I’m really sorry.”

Dan: “He apologized. Seems like I’ve lost.”

Woll: “And I guess that means I’ve won this time.”

Dee: “You place bets on shit like that too!?”

Izumi: (Dee’s comrades follow after him. Their tone is joking, but you can feel their belief in Dee and their encouragement.)

Rat: “Huh? What about Saku?”

Bat: “He said he had stuff to carry. They brought him along to the captains’ drinking party or something.”

Rat: “I’m so jealous. I wish I could’ve gone too.”

Dan: “Well, there’s no helpin’ it. We can’t celebrate the spoils of war right at this moment.”

Rat: “That’s dumb.”

Dee: “He said he was sorry.”

Rat: “He wasn’t trying to be disagreeable or anything.”

Dan: “Stop pouting.”

Dee: “I ain’t poutin’.”

Bat: “Huh? Isn’t that Ralph’s ship over there?”

Dan: “I didn’t see anythin’ about them comin’ into port around here, though.”

Woll: “Maybe it’s because of the incident the other day.”

Dee: “‘Bout damn time.”

Tig: “Oi, you’re not plannin’ on boardin’ again, are you?”

Dee: “They came from way far away. Can’t pass up that kinda opportunity. If they come into port, we’ve got ourselves an openin’. We’ll be able to pull it off no problem.”

Tig: “You haven’t learned your lesson at all.”

Rat: “That’s our Dee!”

Dan: “It’s true, we’ve got a chance. I’m in.”

Woll: “Same here. Not like I’ve got anything better to do.”

Bat: “Ralph and his crew are gonna be comin’ in soon. If you want your chance, go as soon as they do.”

Dee: “Ya already intercepted ‘em? That was fast work.”

Rat: “I’m gettin’ hella hyped!”

Dee: “We go at 22:00. I’ll board first.”

Tig: “I’ll go too. We learned out lesson last time.”

Dee: “Permitted. When we give the signal, the rest of y’all board too. Rat will be in charge of logistical support and diversion.”

Rat: “Aye aye, Sir!”

Izumi: (The members of ANIMS are filled with excitement. Their tone of voice and facial expressions really show off their nature as pirates, as if they’re enjoying the roughness of the plan.)

Dee: “Looks like they’re short of hands. Perfect.”

Tig: “You haven’t reflected at all, have you, Dee?”

Dee: “I have. That’s why I brought you along.”

Tig: “Haah. How the hell am I supposed to support somethin’ like this…”

Dee: “It’s time. Let’s go.”

Tig: “Understood.”

Dee: “Pardon us!”

Guard: “Who the hell are you!?”

Dee: “We had to leave early the other day, so we’d thought we’d pop in to say hello again.”

Guard: “Oi, someone, come here! There’s pirates!”

Dee: “Tig, the signal.”

Rat: “Oh, it’s time, it’s time.”

Woll: “We’re gonna have to kick it up a notch from last time.”

Dan: “We’ll have this over with before the captain can even find out.”

*Lazers firing*

Izumi: (ANIMS acts as violently as they want. It really shows off the true spirit of Autumn Troupe.)

Izumi: (Banri-kun’s leadership skills are put to good use for Dee’s performance, plus the action scenes with everyone are also very impressive.)

Bear: “So, what’s the meaning of this?”

Dee: “As future captain, I’ve gotta make sure I finish the job I messed up on.”

Doug: “Huh?”

Bear: “And you’re not a future captain. From today on, you’re the captain. So pull yourself together.”

Doug: “Are you for real?”

Bear: “Tig, you’ll support Doug as second in command.”

Tig: “No avoidin’ it, I guess.”

Bear: “That’s a weight off my shoulders.”

Bat: “Oi, the Space Police are headed this way.”

Dan: “If we don’t hurry, the port will be put into lockdown.”

Doug: “Aight, y’all, get ready now. We’re gettin’ the hell outta here!”

Rat: “Aye aye, Sir!”

Izumi: (Now given his code name, his determination to live as Captain Doug of ANIMS is reaffirmed…)

Izumi: (The universe of the space performance was further expanded by seeing the past stories of ANIMS.)

Izumi: (The audience seems to be thrilled to get to know the activities and the growth of Doug and the others, which differs from the main story.)

Spoilers for prince of tennis both old and new one.

Just for a laugh

Freshmen hang out. The word itself seems too alien for Ryoma Echizen. He was called out by Dan Taichi to meet at the courts of Rokkaku Jr High. Basically hinting that the over-zealous guy Aoi Kentaro would be present as well.

He certainly didn't expect Kintaro Toyama to be making an entrance as well. Sipping his ponta with a slight concern for his peace, he mentally and psychologically prepared for the worst case scenario of three similar idiots with the same mindset.

Horio, Kachirou, and Katsu were invited too to help and watch their meet-up. The senpais insisted they had their own time right after the nationals.

"Amazing Echizen-kun! You've beaten the child of God!" From Aoi.

"Right!! I can't seem to catch up, desu(Note that Dan's habit of saying desu is a Japanese polite form... he uses it to imply more politeness than average)

"Koshimae! You promised we'll have a match together!" (Kintaro is a cutie who can't read Echizen's kanji name... so that's why it's reversed ... though i think he's intentionally saying it wrong now)

Exactly as he predicted. Ryoma sighed, now lowering his cap. "Jeez, you guys are like three siblings working together to torment me"

Aoi grabbed his wrist with excitement, gleaming over his large dark eyes. "Matte (wait), did we torment the indomitable Echizen-kun?"

"That's insane kentaro-kun!" Dan grabbed his other hand to stop him from finishing his drink. Matches barely began, Kintaro was whining that he wanted to settle the one point match with him. Of course, he's got no room to breathe as he pulled his wrists free. Sighing, he rolled his shoulder. "Alright, mada mada dane, how about a warm-up?"

"Good idea desu!" Dan got up and soon prepared the courts with the freshmen trio.

Horio said now, picking the baskets of balls over to the super freshmen rookies of Seigaku and Rokkaku. "ne, Echizen seems too stiff, as always..."

Katsu and kachiro exchanged similar sad expressions, and hearing this, Kintaro folded his arms above his head, looking up with wondering thoughts "now... Has Koshimae ever laughed? I never saw that side of him before"

Dan pondered too "me neither..."

From Horio "Though he's in my class, all he does is sleep... nothing special"

While Aoi and Ryoma warm up, it made Kintaro run after too, who left out of boredom to practice. Dan clapped when an idea popped to his head, "How about we make him laugh, desu

Katsu smiled now. "Hmm? That's a nice idea, but will it be easy?"

They knew it won't... nothing will crack the cold stoic Ryoma-kun. At least, that's what they believed.

Telling this plan to Kintaro and Aoi, who agreed with bright grins, it was an OK plan. Less did they know Ryoma was suspicious about their private conversations they had without him.

He ignored as always, though he had a lingering doubt, if it would be his own inconvenience.

First, it was Dan who constantly pretended to slip when his bandana fell over his eyes. It was without a doubt funny, but Ryoma's too slow. He turned to the fallen kid now frowning. "What's wrong?"

Embarrassed, he looks away "nothing desu, i slipped!"

Horio and the other two worked hard to do Dan's comic falls and trips, but all they got was a cold Ryoma saying, "Stop screwing around,"

Katsu groaned in defeat. "He's tough..."

Kachirou had a weak smile, now picking up the balls they dropped "Well we got time... don't worry"

After hours passing the afternoon swiftly, they still couldn't do so. Echizen seemed to intentionally have avoided it as he had vaguely noticed a plan being proceeded, though he didn't know the subject matter.

Finally, Aoi cleared his throat after his power served and dared to say, "What do you call a fake pasta?"

Ryoma, startled by this he made a weak lob to digest what Aoi suddenly said. "H-huh... what do you mean?"

"The answer..." he smashed, and Ryoma hits it back with a drive B that Aoi couldn't return.

"I don't know," patting the racket at the lame attempt of a joke. Aoi frozen by the amazing move stammered as he missed his ball "A-ah its an impasta!"

He laughed nervously now, receiving one of his own powerfully controlled serves, defeated. Utterly.

"I shouldn't have listened to davide-senpai..."

"Oh no," Echizen said with a hint of a smile. "His jokes were worse than yours... but it's not like I don't enjoy them"

"Wait, you enjoy them?" Aoi was surprised now, still, he was barely conscious that Ryoma was winning two games from him now.

"Kidding..." Sticking his tongue, he took his sets, leaving four games to six. He won.

"So mean Echizen-kun! You will pay for that, " he glared playfully. Still, they still couldn't make him laugh. He had a small smile, however... seeing how he didn't seem to mind their company anymore, he allowed it to slide.

Dan sighed, "Well, it was a good effort, Aoi-kun..."

Kintaro was next now tossing up and causing crazy moves, which Ryoma was able to predict even without the mugo no kyochi. Kachirou widened his eyes now. "Ryoma-kun had a hard time with him before the finals, but now he's gotten used to that insane irregular speed"

Aoi gave a wry smile, wiping his brow. "He's another monster too, huh?"

Ryoma missed another set though, seeing how kintaro was equal to four games with him.

"Hooooo!" Kintaro yelled as he was sent spinning up like a top from the courts. This was the move... and Ryoma kept his stance. "Superr ultra great delicious mountain-"

He stopped himself abruptly, suddenly losing his balance and falling face first on the dirt and laughing at himself for his stupid fall. Ryoma's eyes widened in puzzlement and pulled away from the stance "O-Oi... what is wrong with all of you?"

Kintaro still face down, was pretty funny and the rest snickered softly at that. Maybe they got to laugh but not Ryoma. Kintaro got up with a frowny dirty face "Aww guess Koharu and Yuji did it better, i might need to learn tricks!"

Using his racket's handle to irritably rub his temple, he asked. Now, finally, losing his patience. "Seriously... what's going on? I'm not stupid to notice you've been acting weird since the discussion this noon till now"

Everyone watched him, as if they were children who were being scolded by a teacher. Sighing, they gave up. All of them seemed to be in on this.

Dan said this, very apologetically "sumimasen, desu,(sorry) It was my idea... you've been a little rigid, and we've never seen you laugh before"

Ryoma looked at him thoughtfully, then thought a little longer and sighed exaperatedly. "Hmm... is that's what this is about? Why do you care whether i laugh or not?"

Aoi broke in emotionally, reaching for his hand with a tight, hopeful clasp. "But Echizen-kun's smile fits him perfectly, i cant imagine it any longer!!"

Awkward, he couldn't get away from the strong hold at all. The idiots strength is formiddable, thought Ryoma. This time, Kintaro grabbed his other hand with sparkly eyes,"Koshimae! You don't look like you enjoy my matches... so why don't you laugh out a bit once in a while"

"Please Echizen-kun?" Dan

"Yes, Ryoma-kun..." katsu

"Can you do it for us Ryoma-kun?" Kachirou

Again, Ryoma didn't understand what was happening. He totally can't force a laugh when nothing is funny and nothing is happening around him. Has he never laughed before? Well, apart from challenging Atobe with a maniacle laugh, he probably sees where they're coming from.

"Well, you will eventually hear it... Toyama, let's continue" he turned away breaking their hearts instantly.

"Normally, I'd be happy, but Koshimae is being mean," Kintaro pouted.

Ryoma stiffened now, wondering the hell he should do to stop weird ideas coming to them.

Aoi was seeing how a warfare of thoughts happening in ryoma's head.

True, they can't force it out... but then again... he got another idea to crack him... problem is if it's effective.

"Echizen-kun, what's that...?" He pointed at the side past Kintaro, who both looked back as well.

"Where -oof!"

A temporary moment of distraction, Aoi tackled him to the ground. His tall frame was a big of a wall for Echizen to cross over. Shock was all he had in his eyes but a horrified looks was when he felt fingers dig into his sides.

"What are you -hngh!"

Clapping a hand to his mouth, he knew exactly what Aoi was doing, and he didn't like it one bit. They wouldn't dare... no, they would, in fact! They had devilish grins that sent shivers down his spine.

"Of course, I forgot the most obvious method of all..." Aoi grinned even wider still trying to force out laughs from a restraining Echizen.

"Ehh, so someone like Echizen can be ticklish?" Horio said with amusement.

The latter on the ground curled to the side, squeaking out sounds he regretted letting out, "S-stop that!"

"He looks surpsingly cute," Dan said with bewilderment. The trio agreed with giggles.

Kintaro sneered and wiggled his fingers before descending with Aoi, "koshimaee~ wants some more? Here ya go!" With that, he grabbed his knees, which was accidental, yet it made Ryoma kick violently, narrowly missing his jaw, "Gah! Wahait... stohop it!"

That was a bad spot. Echizen panicked, he could handle anywhere but there! And there!

Shit! He swore, this was all messed up, he's suddenly cracking.

"Do I hear giggles from the stoic Echizen-kun?" Aoi's sunshine smile glistened over him, how Ryoma wished to step on his face.

"Nohoho yohou dihihid not hehehear ahahahanythihihing! Leheheave mehehe behehehe!" Ryoma curled back now trying to escape the touches, but then again, it's two against one. Hence, except in tennis, he can't win against that unfair combination.

"Yes, Aoi-kun, Echizen-kun's adorably giggling! I want to join too, desu!" Dan stepped in as well to grab one of his arms and help tackle his ribs while Aoi went to his slender waist.

It's too much. He can't believe they'd resort to something stupid... why do they even care? Questions aroused his mind, and soon, his face had an adorable flush of embarrassment.

"Ne, ne..." Dan said, coming over to his head now, "Have you heard that laughter is the best medicine, Ryoma?"

"Ehehehenough yohohou guhuhuys! Ihihihi mehehehean ihihit!"

"No, no... mada mada dane? Right Echizen kun?" Aoi teased him with his own catchphrase, and that made him lower his head back in helpless titters.

It was rather rare to hear him laugh genuinely. Everyone was more dazed than determined. His laugh was contagious, soft, and mellow... almost sweet like a child's.

"To think an uncute guy like koshimaee can be mega cute!" Kintaro was vigorously using methods like scribbling under the calf muscles which nobody knew that were sensitive.

"Shiraishi said sportsmen have sensitive knees, calf muscles, and ankles... now I know he's telling the truth"

"Ihihihi ahahaham nohohot! Oohohoi! Stohohop ihihit!"

Dan couldn't help shower gentle tickles over his neck, and Aoi was more focused on getting his ribs.

"Wait... you're defensive here..." Aoi said, now aiming for the spot below his armpits. It was the last straw. His giggles raised an octave and much louder. "OHOHOK Cuhuhuhut it out nohohohow! IHIHIHI SWEHEHEHEAR ihihit!"

"Ken-chan found the gold mine yippiii!" Kintaro giggled now, pinning his failing ankles down.

"Plehehehaseee!" Ryoma widened his eyes when he heard himself begging and then shuts his words.

This made everyone look at each other with surprise but then contorted to menacing grins. Kintaro taunted now. "Oyaa? Koshimae begging...? That's pretty intense... he's so weak to such a little thing?"

"OHOHO SHUHUT UP! IHIHIHI CAHAHANT STAHAHAND YOU! IHIHIHI DIHID IT BY AHAHAHCCIDENT!"

Rolling his eyes, Aoi presses harder to the death spot "Of course, not to injure your pride, Ryoma... but we all know you begged just now... want to do it again?"

"YEHEHEAH NOHOHOT IHIHIN A MIHIHILLION YEAAARS! GAHAHAHA!" He turned away now trying to pushing away the annoying nimble fingers tormenting his worst spot.

"You heard him. Let's defeat him from a one-sided tickle fight... ne?"

Ryoma Echizen was at their mercy.

Meanwhile, from a distance, the senpais had arrived. The seigaku, rokkaku, and shitenhoji and even Jin Akutsu accompanied them for Dan's sake. All these schools arrived to see their freshmen's little hangout. Surpsingly, what they heard was lovely laughter on the far distance by the courts.

"Are they really not training?" Shiraishi sighed in sudden confusion, "honestly I thought Echizen would be more responsible over them"

Fuji said warmly. "Even i thought so to... well he's not the type to care..."

"I wonder who's laughing... It's certainly not Kin-chan,"

Akutsu scoffed coldly. "Not even Taichi..."

"Aoi's got a much louder one that's annoying," Saeki said with a smile..

"Well, it could be seigaku definitely..." Chitose said with fondness.

The said-school exchanges startled looks, Inui folded his arms "Based on the tone, I think it's not Kachiro though he fits close to that sound... so that means... its Echizen"

"Uso! (No way), i wanna see Ochibi (cutie) right now!" Eji was the first one to run through the path and into the courts to see for himself. He had a bright grin when Oishi followed.

Of course, the senpais saw it with their own eyes. Startled and in love with the sweet sounds. Aoi was definitely breaking him along with Dan and Kintaro ... those merciless devils.

"To think he can have such a side, interesting... even i want to break him like that..." Fuji's sadism triggered as he was giving an aura that made Shiraishi sigh in familairty."Seigaku, save that freshman from this man"

Fuji smiled with sweetness. "Whatever do you mean dear Saeki?"

They approached the freshmen, and Aoi was the first to stop, and then Dan.... they all shyly giggled at the funny display. Kintaro was having a blast that he failed to notice anyone and still didnt let poor Ryoma free. Nobody stopped the red head while he tried to push him off to stop it.

Aoi stuck his tongue in appology for the silliness, "Ahhh, senpai! Sorry, we were practising, but... Echizen was being a stick in the mud... so we gotta lighten him up, " he pointed out with a fond smile."So we thought to make him laugh..."

"Bahahastard! Ahahaha! CUhuhuUHUHUT IHIHIHIT OHOHOUT!"He tried to threaten Aoi but failed when Kintaro was strong and persistent to get him even more, as he scavenged for the sweet spot that Aoi found. He found it at last.

Momoshiro suddenly seemed thrilled as he cracked his knuckles, "How about you let the senpais deal him now, Toyama..."

Kintaro looked up now, a well-deserved break from Ryoma's prior torment. He grinned now, stopping for real, "Ehh? OK then, he got a bad spot under his arms but above the top ribs... get him there... its cute when he snorts!"

"IHI dohoho nohohot -!"

Ryoma sensed the worst conclusion being drawn immediately as he interrupted himself, trying to escape. He was slowly turning to his stomach.

"Running away? I don't think so! Momo, get him right there!" Eji pounced first by grabbing his waist, and soon new resumed laughter was heard, Dan exchanged glances with the other freshmen as the Seigaku senpai handle their freshmen with care and tickles.

It was a beautiful evening that's being folded. Dan was glad he set up this hangout with the freshmen.

i've got autumn, winter, sakuya, tenma, and yuki's characters' names down bc the translation for act 11 is on yaycupcake but it helped to have this list so i could double check their names and make sure i didn't mix tsumugi and hisoka up bc i always get their motif colours confused lmao. i've already queued everyone's posts and there are some slight differences in the names i used vs the ones listed here (e.g. tasuku is "grimm" rather than "grim" and homare is "vars" rather than "varg" bc that's what i saw on yaycupcake) i'm not gonna change those bc those are very small differences but i do appreciate you taking the time to write out this whole list for me nonetheless 🫶🏼 i really needed it for the spring and summer troupes' characters bc i haven't found a complete translation of act 12 anywhere

Second queer manga recommendation of the month:

Blue Flag, by Kaito

Original title: Ao no Flag / 青のフラッグ

For some reason, Taichi Ichinose just can’t stand Futaba Kuze. But at the start of his third year in high school, he finds himself in the same homeroom as her, along with his childhood friend Toma Mita, a star athlete. But one day, Futaba opens up to Taichi and admits she has a crush on Toma. She then asks for his help in confessing to him! There’s just one problem—Toma seems to already have a secret crush on someone else.

I was floored when I learned that this was published in Shounen Jump+ because the Jump magazine is the biggest manga publisher in Japan (One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Jujutsu Kaisen and a lot of others are/were published by Jump). So yeah, you can imagine my surprise when my friend introduced me to this story featuring a very masculine boy who's actually gay as a main character. Most of the main cast is queer and even the secondary characters have more depth than an MC in a straight movie (Mami, who's set up as the popular mean girl at the beginning, became an instant favorite once we got to know her).

Not everyone around Toma is accepting, but this is not a story about bullying, it's a heartfelt story about love and friendship: Taichi struggles to come to terms with the fact that Toma is gay but ultimately ends up getting over himself because he realizes their friendship is too important for him not to. The characters all make different choices and decide to live how they think is best for them and no one is shown as being wrong or right. They're just doing what they think is best for them.

The fact that Toma is probably one of my favorite characters ever is entirely unrelated to this post.

Pour une raison qu'il ignore, Taichi Ichinose ne supporte pas Futaba Kuze. Seulement, au début de sa dernière année de lycée, ils se retrouvent dans la même classe, ainsi qu'avec son ami d'enfance Toma Mita, athlète populaire. Un jour, Futaba se confie à Taichi et lui avoue qu'elle a un faible pour Toma. Elle lui demande même de l'aider à avouer ses sentiments à Toma ! Seul problème : il semblerait que Toma arbore secrètement des sentiments pour quelqu'un d'autre...

J'étais choquée quand j'ai appris que c'était publié dans le Shounen Jump+ parce que le Jump est le plus gros magazine de publication de manga au Japon (One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Jujutsu Kaisen et beaucoup d'autres sont/étaient publiés dans le Jump). Du coup vous pouvez imaginer ma surprise quand un poto m'a fait découvrir cette série où un des personnages principaux est un garçon très masculin qui est en fait gay. La plupart des personnages principaux sont queer et même les personnages secondaires ont plus de personnalité qu'un protagoniste de film hétéro (Mami, qui est présentée dès le début comme la fille populaire et méchante, est rapidement devenue une de mes fav quand on en a su un peu plus sur elle).

Tout le monde dans l'entourage de Toma ne l'accepte pas forcément, mais ce n'est pas une histoire de harcèlement, c'est une histoire sincère sur l'amour et l'amitié : Taichi a du mal à accepter le fait que Toma soit gay mais finit par réaliser que leur amitié est trop importante à ses yeux pour ne pas l'accepter. Les personnages font tous les choix différents, ils décident de vivre leur vie de la manière qu'ils pensent être la mieux pour eux, et personne n'est désigné comme celui ou celle qui a raison ou tors. Ils font juste ce qu'ils pensent être le mieux pour eux.

Le fait que Toma soit probablement un des mes personnages préférés de tous les temps n'a rien à voir avec ce post.

C’est dur de rester ami avec la personne que l’on a rejeté. Ces derniers temps, cette phrase qu’avait dit Tôma il y a trois ans tournait en boucle dans la tête de Taichi. Pourtant, toutes ces années qu’ils avaient passé ensemble leur avaient prouvé qu’ils seraient toujours amis. Même si à l’époque Taichi ne ressentait pas la même chose que Tôma.

À l’époque, pensa Taichi, parce que désormais, les choses étaient différentes. C’était arrivé sans qu’il ne s’en rende compte. Un jour il avait simplement réalisé qu’il était amoureux de Tôma. En y réfléchissant, Futaba avait dû réaliser avant lui ses sentiments pour Tôma et c’était pour cela qu’elle avait rompu avec lui. La connaissant, elle avait voulu le voir heureux avec la personne qu’il aimait. Il avait été triste lors de la rupture. Il tenait à elle. Elle avait été son premier amour, mais il avait fini par comprendre qu’elle n’était pas son grand amour.

Tôma était resté près de lui. Il était là pour boire avec lui lorsqu’il voulait noyer son chagrin ou pour le consoler lorsqu’il en avait besoin. Tôma avait toujours été là pour lui et il ne pouvait pas imaginer sa vie sans lui. Il était son ami, la personne à qui il tenait le plus, la personne dont il était amoureux. Et aujourd’hui, il allait lui avouer ses sentiments. Il avait attendu bien trop longtemps.

Taichi était assis sur un banc dans le parc de la ville. C’était toujours leur lieu de rendez-vous lorsque Tôma lui rendait visite. Au bout d’un moment, il le vit arriver. Taichi ne put s’empêcher de sourire. Tôma avait toujours fait une tête de plus que les autres, il était facile de le repérer de loin. En le voyant, Tôma lui fit un signe de la main et s’approcha. Un immense sourire illumina son visage.

« J’ai des billets pour le prochain match de la ligue. Ça te dit de venir ? »

Taichi ne répondit pas. Il se leva. C’était maintenant ou jamais.

« Est-ce que tout va bien ? Demanda Tôma. »

Taichi acquiesça.

« Il faut qu’on parle.

-Ça a l’air sérieux, le taquina Tôma. »

Il perdit son sourire lorsqu’il vit l’air sérieux de Taichi.

« De quoi tu veux parler ? »

Taichi prit une profonde inspiration.

« Il y a trois ans, tu m’as dit que tu m’aimais.

-Tai…

-Non, attends. Laisse-moi finir. »

Tôma sourit légèrement. Il comprenait où Taichi voulait en venir. Il sentit l’espoir naître en lui. Mais il ne dit rien, il devait le laisser terminer. Il voulait être sûr de ce que Taichi essayait de lui dire.

« Ce que je voulais te dire… Je t’aime Tôma. »

Tôma sentit son cœur s’accélérer. D’aussi loin qu’il s’en souvienne, il avait toujours aimé Taichi. Même durant ces trois dernières années, ses sentiments pour lui n’avaient pas diminué. Bien au contraire. Ils étaient chaque jour un peu plus forts. Il s’approcha de lui et l’embrassa. D’abord surpris, Taichi répondit à son baiser. Ils exprimèrent toutes les émotions, tout l’amour qu’ils pouvaient ressentir l’un pour l’autre. Tôma s’écarta légèrement.

« Je t’aime Tai, murmura-t-il. »

Taichi l’embrassa à nouveau, s’enivrant de tout ce que Tôma pouvait lui faire ressentir. Il l’aimait et Tôma l’aimait. Jamais il n’aurait cru être un jour aussi heureux.

Ahhh I love that so much 😭 That's definitely how it is between them; Nellie is 100% a certified part of the team and not just there because she's with David, but David 100% knows she’s his 🤧

And oh goodness, I have to think about that (I also had to go double-check who was in Suzuki-gun when Nellie was 😂) As per usual, long answer under the cut!

Obviously, after Zack, she was closest with Taichi because of Zack. She was also pretty good friends with Miho, and they'd both be out there with the Tekkers for their bigger matches. That being said, just because of how Taichi is, I think when Nellie first started hanging with Suzuki-gun, she probably thought he DIDN'T like her (and same for Taka). Like I can imagine her telling Zack after a show that she doesn't think Taichi likes her and when he asks why she's like because he did/said such and such and then Zack comes back with, "Oh no, that means he DOES like you." 😂

Similarly, she was HELLA intimidated by Suzuki at first. But then he became a real fatherly sort of figure to her, especially during times when she wasn't as assured of herself. And I can imagine that Suzuki personally asked her to be involved in Suzuki-gun's last match when it happened.

And honestly, I think, "she was intimidated by him at first" goes for all the members of Suzuki-gun, Zack included. Because when Nellie first met Zack he was the RevPro champion and this super talented international pro wrestler with so many accomplishments and accolades already, and she'd only been wrestling for ~5 years at that point and it was her first time working anywhere outside America. And that sort of undercurrent permeated her entire tenure with Suzuki-gun. She didn't feel like she was their peer the way she does with the War Dogs; she very much felt like she was only there because she was with Zack.

And as for Zack, he's absolutely still one of Nellie's closest friends, and before David entered the picture she DEFINITELY caught herself wondering on more than one occasion how things would be if they hadn't broken up. Because the fact of the matter is that Nellie and Zack have a ton of chemistry (and uh, especially in the bedroom), but they would have to REALLY work at it to make a relationship fully work. Which, unfortunately, is something they didn't realize until they'd moved to Tokyo together. But I'll get more into all that in the future Nellie/Zack fics 😉

Good day for gossip, isn’t it?

It has been 15 years since the famous, or should I say the infamous, story of Blair, Chuck, Serena, Dan, and Nate entertained your cute little minds. Yes, it was highly entertaining and wild, the will they, won’t they drama keeping you up all night. All the cheating, heartbreaks, and sex scandals. Exciting, isn’t it? Who doesn’t love a saucy and sweet love story? Stories about power, money, position, sex, drugs, glamour and, of course, all the gossip that follows. After all, the lives of Manhattan’s Upper East Sides’ elites are always exciting and interesting to us ordinary folks.

Now that Manhattan has moved on from our former Queen B, congratulations on a happily ever after with Chuck, by the way. Who knew there would be someone to tame the wild beast that is Chuck Bass? I did, of course. Bringing you their story and all their rendezvous, I saw it a mile away, even when our puppy love Nate was trying to woo back his first lady love. You’ve got to admit there is definitely something about a bad boy and a hardcore queen who can tame him. Oh, and lonely boy is doing pretty good for himself, got the girl of his dreams and living the elite life, now isn’t that exactly what started the gossip.

Good for them I guess, and thanks to them, I now live on.

This perfect pretty girl next door is the granddaughter of the business tycoon, Genichiro Tachikawa, yes, the same Tachikawa who owns half of New York. Don’t let that sweet smile and gesture fool you; the daughter of the most famous socialite in New York, Satoe Tachikawa, can leave a nasty bite. Just ask Miyuki Shiba. Miyuki Shiba, who? Exactly! With all boys wanting to be with her and all girls wanting to be her, this sultry princess can show you your place very well. No one dares mess with the queen of the jungle, not unless you want to be in exile.

Every princess needs her knight in shining armour. Why not a prince, you ask? Well, that title is reserved for someone else. You’ll see. Our knight in shining armour is the “Golden Boy” of St. Jude's School for Boys, Taichi Yagami. The charming athlete and every girl’s dream prince. The prodigal son of senator Susumu Kamiya, one of the most powerful politicians of the city, holding power over us ordinary folks. While girls throw themselves at him, he claims his heart belongs to our Queen B. After all, it only makes sense, doesn’t it? Childhood sweethearts and the perfect fairy tale couple. The prince and princess, just meant to be. Or are they now? My trusted sources say he might have an eye for another; scandalicious indeed!

Every story needs a bad boy, and we've got just the one. Why wasn't Taichi the prince, you ask? Well, here is your answer. Meet the notorious Yamato "Matt" Ishida. Best friend of our knight in shining armour and the dark prince of New York City. Girls come and go, hoping to change the prince, but the grandson of the legendary rock singer Michel Takaishi and the son of T.V heartthrob Hiroaki Ishida seems to enjoy his privileged life a bit too much. Who wouldn't, though, with a body of a Greek God, bright blue dreamy eyes, and the French factor, sign me up for some of that.  Repelled by the idea of love, it seems no one has been able to tame this bad wolf yet.

Now, where is the fun without a rebel in the mix? Meet Sora Takenouchi, daughter of the famous fashion designer Toshiko Takenouchi. The die-hard party girl and best friend of Mimi Tachikawa and Taichi Yagami. Unable to satisfy her stern mother’s expectations, it is always good gossip when Sora parties a little too hard. Rumours say she used to be a tomboy in middle school, playing football with our golden boy, but if that were true, we don’t see any traces of that anymore. Well done, Sora; it seems like your mother’s and Mimi’s influence has done good for you.

I have seen many Princes, Golden boys, Queen B, and It girls come and go, but somehow I have a feeling the legends of these 4 people will last much longer. Have I got your interest? Good, stay tuned for more.
