On 13th October in Perth (Boorloo), Western Australia, a fifteen year old Aboriginal boy, Cassius Turvey was walking home from school, wearing his school uniform, with friends when a car full of white adults pulled up and brutally beat him with a metal pole and a machete. Cassius later suffered seizures and strokes and was put in an induced coma. He died 8 days later. The 21-year-old white male Jack Brearley wrongly blamed the children for smashing his car windows. The WA police commissioner callously stated that Cassius was “in the wrong place at the wrong time” and dismissed it as a “case of mistaken identity”, as though that justifies it. This would not have happened to a white child. It is a hate crime. Vigils are being held across the country and the Blak community are hurting.
Tumblr media
Cassius was much loved in his community. He had a pay-what-you-can lawn mowing business. He liked to dance and was strong in his Noongar Yamatji culture.
Tumblr media
You can donate to his mother’s Gofundme here. They’re raising funds for the fight for #JusticeForCassius . Please boost this post.

The Scottish actor Hamish Wilson passed away on March 26th 2020.
Probably most famous for replacing Frazer Hines for two episodes of Dr Who in the 60’s. Wilson was another one who started early, aged just 14 he started studying at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
He was born James Aitken Wilson in Glasgow, in 1942. His family moved to Cambuslang when he was very young. His father, also James, was a sales rep for a paint firm; his mother Isobel (née Willock) worked in the rag trade. After they divorced Isobel married another Wilson, Robert, and Hamish and his sister Jan grew up with step-siblings Leslie, Sheila and Robbie.
He discovered his love of drama while at West Coats Primary School. Later, at the Glasgow Academy, this love drove him to do “that stupidly romantic thing of running away from school to appear on the stage”. He was soon working professionally – he understudied Jimmy Logan for a summer season at the King’s Theatre and appeared in Peter Duguid’s 1957 Glasgow Citizen’s Theatre production of Enemy of the People.
He then attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and gained more professional experience during the summer holidays. He played the title role in 1959’s live ITV play, The Boy from the Gorbals, did a 1960 episode of Para Handy with Duncan Macrae, and met Walt Disney while he was working on his film adaptation of Greyfriars Bobby.
“I was trying to chat up a pretty blonde extra, with no success at all”, he once recalled, “and this gentleman with blond hair and a little moustache came over and started chatting to me. We nattered away for five minutes and then he wandered away. The girl was terribly impressed, but I spoilt it because I didn’t recognise him. I said, ‘Who was that?’ and she stopped being impressed. ‘That was Walt Disney!’, she said”.
He graduated from the RSAMD in 1963, winning the award for Most Promising Male Performance, and appeared on stage at Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre , Perth Theatre and Dundee Repertory Theatre (1970-71), where his performance in Mark But This Flea was described as “remarkable” by The Stage, the trade weekly – not least because he had stepped in 24 hours before opening night after the original actor had broken his leg.
On television he appeared in The Wednesday Play, The Vital Spark , This Man Craig (three different roles, 1966), Softly, Softly and The Revenue Men (three different roles.
In 1968 Doctor Who regular Frazer Hines, who played Patrick Troughton’s Jacobite companion Jamie, fell ill with chickenpox while making the adventure The Mind Robber. After an ingenious, hasty rewrite Jamie underwent a temporary metamorphosis and with one day’s rehearsal Wilson took over, cramming his lines overnight and recording the first of his two episodes the next day.
Further TV roles followed, including The Borderers Boy Meets Girls (1969), Adam Smith, and The View from Daniel Pike but he found that he needed to turn his attention away from acting because “ a beautiful girl smiled at me”. Intent on marriage and starting a family, he gained more secure employment as an announcer for STV.
In 1975 he went to Radio Forth as its arts and drama producer. With limited resources but boundless ambition, he broadcast original writing, late-night horror classics, and a six-month long serial about Mary Queen of Scots, told in 130 twelve-minute episodes, broadcast daily. Drama of this kind on commercial radio was largely unheard of.
In 1979 he did an adaptation of The Slab Boys for Radio Clyde, ultimately joining the station and founding Independent Local Radio’s first drama department there.
His many productions at Clyde included The Bell in the Tree a series of dramas about the history of Glasgow by Edward H Chisnall; Donald Campbell’s Till the Seas Run Dry, with Tom Fleming as Robert Burns and Mary Riggans as Jean Armour), and Nick McCarthy’s Elephant Dances with Katy Murphy).
He also encouraged new talent, instigating initiatives which gave professional breaks to aspiring comedy writers and awarded contracts and prized Equity cards to final-year drama students.
He left Clyde in 1989 and joined the BBC, where he produced a huge number of plays and series for Radio Scotland, Radio 3 and Radio 4. He really believed in radio: “It allows you to creep inside somebody’s head”, he said, “and paint pictures that are going to stay long after the programme is finished.”
In all, he won 23 awards for his radio productions – his ‘Oscars’, as he jokingly referred to them – and served a juror in the Prix Italia (where he was also the first ILR producer to be jury chairman), Prix Futura Berlin and the Prix Europa.
When he left the BBC after ten successful years he went back to the old trade, doing voiceover work and acting in episodes of Taggart,, Monarch of the Glen and Still Game .
On March 21st 2020 Tony contracted coronavirus and sadly passed away only 6 days later on March 26th aged 77. He worked for many years for the actors union Equity, the Scottish Secretary of the union said of him:
“He led a full life and touched many people. He was one of life’s enthusiasts and succeeded at most everything he turned his hand to. Time in his company was always enjoyable and often informative. Remember that mischievous grin and raise a glass to him. RIP.”
The beautiful girl who smiled at him was Diana (née Baron), a wardrobe mistress at Dundee Rep, whom he had met in 1972. They married the following year and had three daughters, Emma, Alice and Abigail, who all survive him, as do grandchildren Colin, Finley, Amelia and Gregor.

Dangerous Romance Ep 7 Stray Thoughts
Last week, we crushed through the love triangle because Pimfah is so forward and Sailom didn’t lie. The class tried to push Pimfah and Kanghan together with cheerleading, but Kanghan bailed because he was salty about Pimfah being interested in Sailom. Instead, Kanghan joined the soccer team for sports day, and is apparently suspected of using his money to become a starter. We all got a laugh out of Sailom shouting Kanghan’s name. Sailom, a BL boy, confessed that he likes Kanghan in the rain and of course got sick. In continuing with this show’s abject disregard for the decisions poor people make, a sick Sailom somehow left his front door open so Kanghan was able to walk into the house and attempt to care for him (good thing it wasn’t one of the debt collectors with an iron again). We parted on Kanghan pushing another kiss on Sailom. There’s a concern from Sailom that he makes Kanghan feel guilty?
Yes, remind us that old people have health problems. Start flagging early.
“Give it to me straight.” I see you, GMMTV Subber.
I am a fan of door-based imagery for choices.
Not a pinky touch! I won’t be won over so easily!
Oh, are we back to caring about the bullying and its potential impacts on their romance?
I think Kanghan’s house is the same house Sailom (Wedding Plan) lived in.
I think Marc is at least being used decently in this show.
Here we go with the smelling like each other thing. Let’s not tell the Bennett pack.
Is Kang allergic to spicy food? Passing out on them is not helping.
I like Auto. He said, “You can throw money at me.” Let’s not forget that they burned his ticket to see his favorite girl group.
Oh good. Auto didn’t forget.
I want to see Auto dance more. He looks like he’s having so much fun.
Oh, that’s way too much liquor to ingest. And now they’ve subjected me to vomit. I hate this.
They forgot my boy Auto. At least they didn’t abandon my boy.
Well, Saifah has wiggled his way into caring for the grandmother. Let me mentally prepare for him to try to rob them.
Nothing like spilling blood on the sports field to bring two men together.
Kang missing the kick after being entrusted with the responsibility is actually kind of interesting since his primary struggle is being useless.
Guy and Auto are like, “We know you’re gay, and he’s so obvious.”
Yep, here comes Saifah’s trifling ass.
This show is fine if I maintain a slow an investment in the character arcs as possible. Don’t worry about themes, just let them play off each other. After watching Perth and Chimon play high schoolers all year, I need them to be freed from this if they continue to work next year. They’re in their mid-20s. Let them grow up. Chimon and Perth were all part of Wave 1 of BL. OffGun and TayNew are pioneering what adult romcom looks like at the end of this year into next year and they still have Chimon playing around in high school. Terrible.

Bio
Hazel was born in Perth (Australia) to Indian immigrant parents. She's the second child of the family. She grew up middle class with an engineer mother and a university teacher father. She had a comfortable life and went to private schools. It is where she grew envious of the children of wealthier family. She never lacked anything and had a great life but she always wanted more. She knew she was destined for something bigger.
After graduating high school, she moved to Sydney to start an acting and modelling career. She got a few jobs in commercials and catalogues. She even starred as an extra or a tiny role in a few soaps, shows and films but nothing big. She never got cast in anything important. Still she knew she would make it somehow so she persevered.
Until her father got into an accident. She agreed to move back to Perth to help her mother take care of him since her career was not going anywhere. After her father got better, she wanted to move again but covid hit, stopping her. After the pandemic, she had lost her momentum and decided to quit acting to become an influencer or a singer.
Hazel worked in Louis Vuitton's shop in Perth before being picked to be a spice girl. She spent all day serving the clients she wished she could be. On her freetime, she posted videos and sang at luxurious venues. She was building followers and she kept hoping to be the next big thing. One evening, she was singing at Perth's Ritz-Carlton when a producer noticed her. That was her big break. Six months later she became a superstar.
Now she lives the life she always aspired to and is obsessed with staying relevant. She is doing everything to keep the spotlight on her.
Career
After being a failed model, actress and influencer, Hazel is now ginger spice on the global girlband sensation that is the Spice girls.
The group reached stardom two years ago. She has been living the dream ever since. She makes cameos in movies and tv shows. She went from being an employee to a Louis Vuitton's brand ambassador. She is always at a party, an award, on set, or on tour. She never takes a minute for herself. She has to keep moving and keep eyes on her. She is not the easiest to work with and push the people around her to high standards. She is starting to build herself a diva reputation and is trying to control her image

Never Let Me Go Ep 4 Stray Thoughts
Last time we were together, we established that Thai BL is going to turn to ballroom dance as a romantic tool for the foreseeable future. Palm clearly has feelings for Nuengdiao, and that played out best during the pool scene when Pond got cheeky.
Nuengdiao confirmed that Phum was the one bullying him, and I had thoughts about Phum's tenuous position near wealth, considering the expense of this school. When confronted, Phum made the mistake of putting hands on Nuengdiao and got his entire ass handed to him for it, as Palm went ballistic.
Meanwhile, Chopper continues to have an absolutely embarrassing crush on Ben, who I absolutely do NOT trust. Still, Perth and Chimon are fantastic.
Mutual suspension and probation is probably the best any school administration can do at this point. At least Phum's dad is well enough to come and advocate for his son?
Perth is so phenomenally charming, and plays well with Phuwin. If something happens to sour their dynamic I am going to start biting.
Maggie is very determined, but I don't blame her.
How Phuwin gets his eyes to sparkle when he's being mischievous I will never know, but I like it.
Gosh, it's going to hurt if the relationship between Nueng and Chopper sours. The ease of their familial dynamic tinged with their naivete about their parents set off a deep melancholy in me.
Also, Chopper asking about Ben only to turn around forlornly and practice shooting feels so ominous.
I actually like Maggie. I hope I don't have to add her to the list of Girls Who Don't Deserve This.
Pond is at his best in this show with Phuwin when he's being cheeky.
Ah yes. Let's project our feelings into this school essay about an impossible love, and then stand too close together and flirt.
Oh, Chimon is left-handed. I don't think I noticed that before.
Oh, Chopper, how I adore you. I have also projected my feelings into the advice I've given to my secret crushes. You can feel the heartache when Ben says he likes Nuengdiao.
Goddammit I need to know what happened between Ben and Chopper "on that day" right now! Chimon and Perth are so good and I am invested!
Palm is back at school. I hope we haven't seen the last of Pawin.
The cast for this show is really talented. I don't trust Ben, but I admire what Chimon is doing so much that I want him to not be suspect.
You know, I really like this kiss between Ben and Nuengdiao. It feels very high school and tentative. Ben is clearly more into it, and Nuengdiao seems mostly curious and hopeful. Also, no one saw it for some immediate drama. How refreshing.
🤡 Nevermind. Of course Palm saw it. 🤡
Palm out here like, "Harvey Dent. Can we trust him?"
Oof, I felt the frustration between them in this scene. Palm wants something he knows he shouldn't have, and can't even be jealous about it.
Phuwin does a great job with this tub scene. Finally an effective use of flashbacks.
Chimon is overwhelmingly talented. So glad Phuwin can match his energy in these scenes.
Wind him up (get him drunk) and watch him go (embarrass himself and Palm).
Phuwin changing his voice to sound drunk is super effective.
Damn, they are in fights in back to back episodes.
What a harrowing end to the episode.
Next week looks intense!

Kandi Summers: Meeting S3RL
Tumblr media
I didn’t know it then, but the warehouse was calling me. From the dark halls of Osbourne Industrial Park, it called all who were Ravers. It called us to fill it with light and music and dancing. It called S3RL when he was still making techno tracks on his N64.
And now it was calling me, a loser, into its centre.
Nellie opened her box of colourful beads, all simple, all unapologetically plastic. “Kandi.” she said. Raving attracted a stigma. If you wore Phats you could expect the word “faggot” yelled at you from a moving commodore.
Tumblr media
It was in high school when I clicked, by sheer luck, with friends slightly cooler than me and suddenly I was in a world of flouro tickets, Michael’s Blue SS speeding through the night, djing, vinyl and raves. Underground warehouse Raves. Location unannounced, to keep the cops confused. My pupils widened.
We sat in Nelly’s room and watched her dance in her gators while we dipped into a bowl of pony beads to make kandi in preparation for the rave.
Taking the train to get to the rave, we ran into some comrades, some new ravers wearing the phat-pants, kandi and gators for the first time. Comrades. We were all gravitating to the warehouse, every suburb emptying out, every person who knew the secret.
I had listened to Darude to try and picture what my first rave would be like, snapped a glowstick and watched the chemicals mingle to produce light.
Every warehouse was unique. One had its ceiling stuffed full of hundreds of plush toys staring down at you. One was a tiny box stacked on another tiny box, with an impossibly steep staircase. The energy in there was like a nuclear bomb going off in a small space.
While I was in awe of a PHD raver flicking his phats in the lasers, effortlessly flipping and spinning, S3RL was out there somewhere in a warehouse perfecting his dance. Laser lights blossomed behind my eyelids, turning into interlocking leaves, dots from a dot matrix printer.
Tumblr media
inevitable really, when you had drugs and young girls showing off skin. We didn’t go to raves to hook up. That would be defiling something pure. We danced because it was fun to improve our technique. We spent hours sewing pink gators and beading and designing our Phat Pants to flicker in the laser light. We hugged our raver sisters and our raver brothers, and wore pacifiers on a string of beads for something to chew on when we had the gurns, but mainly as a fuck-you to gender norms.
When the movement peaked for me in 2009, in Perth, and then started to decline, we were happy, because people were coming for the right reasons again. The ‘superstar dj’ movement peaked but S3RL let the wave pass over him. He was only interested in making music.
The movement split apart. Small groups still danced in their living rooms, and we still thrived on Hardstyle, DnB and Happy Hardcore. Some people swapped their Phats for fisherman pants, their Exstacy for mushrooms and went on to join the Doof movement.
There was a silver lining though; Neko Nation, a ‘legal’ rave which had managed to weave together Happy Hardcore, catgirls, gaming, and kandi-raving. It was an addictive formula. Meanwhile, S3RL was going from strength to strength, touring the globe with his music. Happy hardcore isn’t as ‘serious’ as other dance music genres, it is energetic, cheeky and unselfconscious. It sounded good, and people actually danced to it, which was a rarity as Kandi raving was slowly replaced by Berlin style techno raves. Where other events worldwide were flagging, people were lining up to see S3RL. They wanted to hear Pretty Rave Girl. We didn’t want to stand around a dark warehouse in our Adidas listening to Berlin techno. We wanted flare. We wanted Pika Girl. We wanted every shade of coloured hair haloed in laser light. We wanted MTC. We wanted that cyberpunk soup of light and warmth and colour, the haze I had fallen in love with the first time I had stepped into the laser lights.
Then, two people died at Defqon 1 and the NSW Premier vowed to shut the event down forever. I laughed. We would survive this like we survived everything else. But it became difficult. The council started cracking down on the two companies in Perth that held warehouse parties. It became impossible to secure a warehouse without risking a police raid and huge fines.
It turned out that Phat pants, kandi, and the flicking, jumping and bouncing dance that we pioneered was something endemic to Perth. In a place that has very little to do and so little cultural depth, this was unique, it was something to do, and something to unite us. When it was gone, it left a vacuum.
When Neko Nation was announced for 2018, we jumped for joy, but it was bittersweet. It was going to be the last Neko ever. But S3RL was headlining.
When I filled in the little form on S3RL’s website I didn’t have high hopes. He was completing his last tour before his retirement, headlining at all the Neko Nations around Australia as he worked his way around to Perth.
“We have to see this,” I persuaded my friends. “It’s the end of an era.”
I had my Rick Sanchez shirt ready in advance, and my kandi, and Phat Pants. Was there anyone in Perth who still had the balls to wear their Phats? I hoped so. I needed to believe.
Tumblr media
Three hours before the event S3RL messages me to meet at his hotel. Yes. Adrenaline rush. I race to the bottleshop to buy two beers and three Jack Daniels tall-ies. I race down in my Prado to the heart of the city, drive over the curb and squeeze into a city parking bay. S3RL greets me with a handshake. He has his signature piercings and seems relaxed, at ease. We go up to his hotel room. We have a beer together. We laugh, talk about the culture, discuss what the rave scene was in the past and what it was now. He was humble, and genuine. He spoke about his evolution in music, about evolving in his technique while trying to stay true to his original sound. We talked about his marriage. “Guess you found your ‘pretty rave girl’ after all,” I joked. The lift was coming up, S3RL’s set was happening soon.
“Should I play my Drug songs?” He winks at me. We go our separate ways.
I line up with my friends at the dancehall in the middle of the city after parking in the iconic car park where ravers had parked their STI’s for years, where we had drank and freestyled on break through all the other Neko Nations.
We get our stamps and pass under the UV lights.
Out of the woodwork crawl all these people, ravers, catgirls, gamers, furries, people we thought had disappeared, all lining up for S3RL, all lining up to see the DJ press play.
S3RL rocks the beat with both hands on the faders. The hardcore builds up to a crescendo as the lasers pierce us and the strobes explode in our faces.
The music builds up to an expectant pause. Silence. We close our eyes. Behind shut eyelids the imprint of the lasers blossoms, and we wait for what feels like an eternity.
Then S3RL flicks over the bass and the dancefloor erupts into a frenzy of motion. I’m taken back to where it all started, Michael djing and the flicker of light on a vinyl record.
When it was all over, S3RL waited to take a photo with every last fan. He even complied with the more outlandish requests, like putting on a Goku shirt and casting a fireball.
I was so excited, yet out of it, and asked to go back with S3RL to his apartment to get some last scoops for the book. S3RL was patient with me in my inebriated state, and let me come with him. I congratulated him on his set and he gave me a USB stick with all his tracks.
Tumblr media
er biscuits. Ricy subaru’s. Dancing, practicing your dance moves everywhere, having “faggot” shouted at you from a moving car, gators, medic, pikachu, handing out lolipops, anime, pacifiers, zelda tattoos, Mario drug crossovers, cosplay, gas-masks.
S3RL said raving never really peaked and waned, that it went through highs and lows throughout its history.
Neko Nation and S3RL went off into the cold night with a bang. If the cycle ever does go round and Kandi Raving takes hold again, S3RL will be there.
And we’ll be there.

15 Questions
Rules: Answer these 15 questions, then tag 15 people.
Thanks for the tag @bluestringpudding but I am so new to tumblr. Do I even know 15 people?
Ok here we go.
Are you named after anyone? I am actually named after a famous dancer and a famous singer. I don’t reveal my real name on the internet though so people will all just have to wonder. I will say though that back in those days the internet did not exist so hilariously my middle name is spelt incorrectly.
When was the last time you cried? I don’t know actually. I suffer from a lot of emotional numbness. Pretty sure it’s because of my undiagnosed ADHD. Getting on track with my mental health is on my list of things to do this year.
Do you use sarcasm a lot? All millennials use sarcasm. It’s part of our survival mechanics.
Do you have kids? Yes
What’s the first thing you notice about people? I have no idea. I’m too busy trying to make sure they don’t notice me.
What’s your eye colour? Brown
Scary movies or happy endings? Scary movies. I love horror. It was the first genre of literature that I ever loved.
Any special talents? I am a Jack of all trades but a master of none. This is literally a list of all the things I’ve obsessed about over the years. I can write. I can sing. I can dance the Lindy Hop. I can sew quite well. I can passably shoot a bow and arrow. I’m pretty good at sketching but am abhorrent with colour.
Where were you born? Perth, Western Australia
What are your hobbies? Right now? The unholy fandom trifecta: Writing, reading and drawing. Ask me again in 6 months and you will probably get a different answer.
What sports do you play/have you played? Archery, lasertag and I did ballet for a while recently but then I broke my hand and stopped doing it.
Do you have any pets? I have a beautiful dachshund who is adorable and sooky. He has the biggest eyes.
Dream job? I think I’d love to be a writer but I realise that most writing jobs are about banal stuff like advertising print etc. I once applied to be a journalist and got into the second round of applications and completely bombed the celebrity identification test. Apparently you need to know and care about famous people to be a reporter. Who knew?
Favourite subject at school? Math. I happen to be phenomenal at it and I enjoy being good at things.
How tall are you? Tolkien royal dwarf height 157cm (5’ 1.5”)
I don’t know that many people on tumblr so here we go.

Happy Birthday Scottish actress  Joanna Vanderham, who was born on 17th October 1990.
Born Joanna Rosie-Le Van Der Ham in Perth and brought up in nearby Scone. Her father Tom, a businessman, and mother, Jill Belch, a professor of cardiovascular research at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, her parents split up when she was eleven, Joanna has two sisters and a brother,  er eldest sister and brother are also doctors.
Joanna  joined the local drama club aged nine. She attended school in Dundee where she read six Shakespeare plays .Othello was her favourite and she would always have her hand up to take a part. She did Scottish Highers in: English, Drama and History before being accepted at 17 for The Royal Welsh College in Cardiff.
In her second year she played Cathy in The Runaway, a six part serial for Sky TV, with in my opinion, a stellar cast that included, Ken Stott, Alan Cumming Keith Allen and Jack O'Connell . Recording this meant missing two terms when she was filming for three months in South Africa but the college graded her work from her film performances, giving her a first.
Having graduated she was immediately recruited for the central role of Denise in The Paradise, an eight part series for BBC based loosely on the Emile Zola novel Au Bonheur des Dames. She then filmed The Go-Between a BBC TV movie, in which she plays the young Marian, with Vanessa Redgrave playing the older version of her character.
She also appears in the film What Maisie Knew with Alexander Skarsgård and Julianne Moore, and as Pamela in the BBC drama Dancing on the Edge, The  Mini Series banished and  One of Us , a Netflix original set in Scotland, on which Joanna commented she loved filming “the puppies on the farm helped you forget how cold Scotland is”
Joanna is probably most famous for the role of Penelope Blake in the acclaimed Cinemax series, Warrior and in the American superhero television series Legends of Tomorrow as Atropos.
Season 2 of the Irvine Welsh based series Crime is being filmed at present, Joanna plays police office Amanda Drummond. Joanna was last  on our screens in the excellent drama Control Room, set in Glasgow
Joanna Vanderham has been in many plays around the country, starring in some for the Royal Shakespeare Company and received a Commendation at the 2016 Ian Charleson Awards for her role as Queen Anne in Richard III at the Almeida Theatre.

Disability Services in Perth | aonecare.com.au
Disability service providers in Perth provide quality support services for people with disabilities. These include respite care, transportation assistance, and home 'handyman' services such as cleaning and lawn mowing.
A posh school in Perth has been forced to scrap plans to make teachers 'live with a disability' for a day in a fundraising effort. The plan was slammed as insensitive by a disability advocate.
NDIS
The NDIS is a new system of support for Australians with disability. It provides participants with tailored services to help them live their lives independently. These services complement, rather than replace, other service systems in the community.
The new scheme has several benefits, including a more flexible funding model and person-centred approach. It also aims to promote health outcomes by integrating perth disability services and mainstream services.
To qualify for the NDIS, you must have a permanent and significant disability that affects your daily life, and be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. You must also be under 65 years old. You can check your eligibility using the official NDIS access checklist. Choosing an NDIS provider is essential to ensure you get the right support. Look for a registered NDIS provider that places importance on open communication with its clients.
Support Coordination
Every person has specific goals and ambitions that they want to achieve in their life. These goals can help them feel self-satisfied and lead to a better quality of life. They are also important for a person’s mental health and wellbeing.
A good Support Coordinator understands these goals and is willing to go the extra mile for their participants. They can do this by straightforwardly communicating their needs to the participant and assisting them to fulfil these goals.
It is also important that the participants and the Support Coordinator establish their preferred communication methods. This ensures seamless interactions and timely updates. It is also essential that the Support Coordinator is aware of the meaningful changes, progress and emerging issues in a participant’s life. This enables them to make relevant adjustments to their service delivery.
Art Therapy
Art therapy is an established form of psychotherapy, delivered by trained art therapists (also known as art psychotherapists). It can be used to help people express thoughts and feelings that are difficult to communicate verbally. It can also reduce stress and improve psychological wellbeing.
Michelle has a background in mental health, with an emphasis on working with adolescents and people experiencing disability support services. She works with clients to explore difficulties, adopt positive coping strategies and find meaning in their lives.
Anyone can participate in the art program, but they must obtain a referral from their psychiatrist. They can then schedule an appointment at Perth Clinic. Sessions are held either in person or online. All work produced during the session is confidential. Artwork remains the property of the client.
Celebrations
The well-being activities offered by Perth Disability Services play a critical role in nurturing the health and happiness of their clients. From physical activities and art therapy to personal development programs and mental health support, they empower individuals with disabilities to live meaningful lives.
2023 Disability Support Awards
Frontline workers and leaders from a range of disability support organisations will be celebrated for the impact they have had on the lives of their clients at this year’s Disability Support Awards. Held at the Crown Perth Grand Ballroom, the event will celebrate the contributions people with disability make economically, socially and culturally.
Lunar New Year celebrations take place around Perth this month with a host of events including lantern making, lion dancing and food stalls. The City of Gosnells is presenting a free community event with performances and cultural activities in Northbridge Piazza.
