From Sea to Land
Angst and Fluff
What started as a team up turned into late night visits. Sam and Dean were on the hunt for a monster that was lurking the seas and attempting to drown a few fishermen (and unfortunately, was successful in some cases). They first suspected that the culprit was sirens, but it wasn’t until they met a mermaid named (Y/N) that they realized it was something much bigger. (Y/N) told them that the same monster was harassing the merfolk, and together they managed to find out it was a Umibōzu.
When they finally finished it off, Sam and Dean were about to leave. However, the younger Winchester snuck out in the middle of the night to meet with the beautiful mermaid. At first, she didn’t think much of his visits and she did enjoy his company. Sam made it a point to visit as much as he could, though, and that’s when she realized that he was falling for her.
This couldn’t happen. Humans and mermaids were usually not a good mix, especially with mermaids getting a bad reputation due to being confused with sirens. Because of this, mermaids were forbidden to talk to humans.
They knew that Sam was different, though, and when the fellow merpeople saw that (Y/N) was falling in love with Sam, they gave her their blessing to walk on land to see if she was a better fit among the humans and to give a life with Sam a shot.
She decided to surprise him at his next visit, staying in a nearby lighthouse as she waited for him. Finally, one evening, she saw him walking towards their meet up spot, but he looked confused when he saw that she wasn’t there.
(Y/N), getting all giddy, skipped over to him, tapping on his shoulder in a playful matter. Sam turned around and almost passed out, seeing the former mermaid now walking on land.
“Y/N…you…”
She nodded. “Hi, Sammy.”
“But…how…”
“I received the blessing of the merfolk to come onto land,” she said, “I…I want to see your world…and if I fit in…”
Sam looked at her, stunned that she was literally standing right in front of him. He slowly walked up to her, cupping her cheek with his hand. “You have no idea…how much I’ve been wanting to do this,” he said
He then leaned in and kissed her. It took (Y/N) a moment but she finally kissed him back as the pale moonlight reflected across the ocean.

*(y/n)'s POV*
"You were referred to me by a Dr. Babar in Chicago." Dr Fuller said to me and the boys after he read through some files and looks up at us. "That's right." Dean said. "Isn't there a children's book about an elephant named Babar?" Fuller asked. "I don't know. I don't have any elephant books. Look, Doctor, I-I-I think the doc was in over his head with this one." Dean said and he points at Sam. "'Cause my brother is..." he said and makes a crazy sign, circling his finger at the side of his head and whistling.
"Okay, fine, thank you. That's-that's really not necessary." Fuller said, raising his hand. Then he grabs his file and notepad. "Why don't you tell me how you're feeling, Alex?" Fuller asked Sam, who sighs. "I'm fine. I mean, okay, a little depressed, I guess." Sam replied and Fuller writes in his notepad.
"Okay. Any idea why?" Fuller asked him. "Probably because I started the apocalypse." Sam said and that seems to catch the doctor's attention. "The apocalypse?" Fuller said, confused. "Yeah, that's right." Sam said and Fuller looks at me and Dean.
"And you think you started it?" Fuller asked Sam as he turns to look at him again. "Well, yeah, I mean...I killed this demon, Lilith, and I accidentally freed Lucifer from hell. So now, he's topside, and we're trying to stop him." Sam said and Fuller looks at me and Dean again, like he couldn't believe what he was hearing.
"Who is?" Fuller asked us as he nods to Sam. "Me. A-and them." Sam said as he points at us. "And these two angels." He said. "Angels? You mean, like a...like an angel on your shoulder." Fuller said. "No. One of them is named Castiel. He wears a trench coat." Sam said. "And the other is named Ariel. She has bright orange hair."
"Isn't that the name of the Little Mermaid?" Fuller asked and Sam shrugs as I bite my lips, holding back laughter. Then the doctor goes back to taking notes. "See what I mean, Doc? The kid's been beating himself up about this for months. The apocalypse wasn't his fault." Dean said and Fuller looks at him. "It's not?" Fuller asked. "No. There was this other demon, Ruby. She got him addicted to demon blood, and near the end, he was practically chugging this stuff." I said and Fuller looks at Sam, who looks ashamed.
Fuller then looks back at me and Dean. "My brother's not evil. He was just...high...yeah? So, could you fix him up so we can get back to traveling around the country and hunting monsters?" Dean asked and the doctor puts up a finger for us to wait. He picks up his phone and dials an extension. "Irma...cancel my lunch." he said and hangs up as Dean pats Sam comfortingly on the shoulder.
"Doctor Fuller would like to keep you three under observation for a couple of days." The nurse tells us as she leads us down the hallway. "The three of us? Me and her, too?" Dean asked her as he gestures between me and him. "Yes, Sugar. The doctor thinks that would be best." the nurse said and the boys and I give each other victorious smiles.
"Alright, I'm just gonna give you a little check-up." the nurse tells me as she wraps a blood pressure cuff around my right arm. "Do whatcha gotta do." I said, sighing, as she checks my blood pressure then she removes it and puts the tool away.
"Alright, pull down your pants and hop up on that table." The nurse said and I, quickly, raise my head towards her. "Wait, what? What for?" I asked, panicked, and the nurse grabs a glove and snaps it on, smiling at me. And I felt really uncomfortable.
Later, I walked out of the room and see Dean leaning against the back of a couch, wearing patient scrubs, shoes and blue robe which is similar to the ones I'm wearing. Sam was standing in front of Dean and it looked like it they were talking. Both of them look up at me as they hear my footsteps, my arms folded against my chest and my shoulders hunched.
"How did it go for you, sweetheart?" Dean asked and I let out a shaky sigh. "I have been through a lot of crap and never have I ever felt this violated in my life." I grumble. "What about you two?" I asked. "Yeah, my nurse was very through." Dean said, looking frazzled. "Me too." Sam said, just as uncomfortable as I feel.
Minutes later, Dean, Sam and I look around the lounge, seeing the other patients including one female patient playing with a pink bunny. "I can't believe you talked us into this." I grumble to Sam. "Hey, it's the least we could do. Martin saved Dad's ass more times than we can count. He's a great hunter." Sam said. "Was. Until Albuquerque." Dean mutters.
"Besides, I just figure it's best we keep busy. That's all." said Sam. "Better than what?" I asked him. "Nothing." Sam said and I motion at him for more. "Okay. Look...um...last few weeks, you've kind of been worrying me." Sam said to me and I roll my eyes. "Oh, come on, Sam. Stop. Look, just because we're in the loony bin doesn't give you the right to head-shrink me." I said, in annoyed exasperation.
"(Y/n)..." Sam mutters. "Ellen and Jo dying--Yeah, it was a friggin' tragedy, okay? But I'm not gonna wallow in it." I said. "You can't just keep this crap in, (y/n)." Sam said, worried,  and I scoff. "Watch me." I spat at him. “Look, I know you like getting in touch with people’s feelings, man. But trying to get someone to talk when they don’t want to, isn’t gonna do you or them any favors. Just back off. (Y/n) will talk when she wants to." Dean said and I look over at Dean. "Thanks, Dean." I muttered while Sam looks annoyed.
I turn away from Sam as Dean looks over at a table nearby. "Oh, there he is." Dean said and we walk over to a table where Martin sits, staring out the window. Sam clears his throat, and Martin looks at them.
"Sam, Dean, wow." Martin said as he stands and shakes Sam's hand. "Wow, you boys got big. You look good." Martin said to the boys. "Thanks. You do, too, Martin." Sam said and Martin shakes Dean's hand and shakes it. Then he turns to me. "I'm sorry, I don't believe I know you." He said and Dean places a hand on my shoulder.
"You've heard of (f/n) (l/n)?" Dean asked Martin. "Oh, yes! I've heard of him. Your father mentioned him a lot. Didn't get a chance to work with him, though." Martin said. "Well, this is his daughter." Dean said then Martin smiles and takes my hand. "Uh...Well, thanks for coming." Martin said as we shake hands then he motions for us to sit.
Dean and Martin sit at the table while Sam and I get a chair and pull it up, sitting. "In the old days, I could've taken care of this thing with both hands tied behind my back...but, well...now..." Martin said. "What do you think it is that we're hunting?" Sam asked him. "I don't know yet. A ghost, demon, monster...animal, vegetable, mineral." Martin chuckles. "Hospital's had five deaths in the last four months. Doctors keep calling it suicides, but they're wrong." Martin said.
"So, you've seen this thing?" I asked him and Martin shakes his head. "Has anyone seen this thing?" Dean asked. "Well, a couple patients have, uh...had glimpses, but there's not a lot to go on." Martin said. "Are they reliable?" I asked. "Oh, sure, why wouldn't they be?" Martin asked and I look around at a female patient, who is dancing and humming.
Then I look back at Martin. "Gee, I don't know." I said, with sarcasm. "I know you three think I'm a bag of loose screws. Now, you wouldn't be wrong. But I wouldn't have called you unless there was something here. I can feel it in my gut." Martin said then the boys and I exchange looks before we look back at him.
"We believe you. Have you checked any of the bodies? Found signs of an attack?" Sam asked. "Well, uh, no...I don't go around dead b-b-b-bodies anymore." Martin said, flinching.
"Alex, Eddie, Joan." a voice said and the boys and I turn to see Dr Fuller standing behind us. "Well, I'm glad to see you're making friends. Why don't you and, uh, Mr. Creaser join us for group? Please. Right this way." Fuller said and we all stand. Martin, Sam and I walk over to the doctor and I look over my shoulder to see Fuller stopping Dean.
"Actually, I'm gonna be putting you in the afternoon group." He tells Dean. "What? Why?" Dean asked as Sam looks over at Dean. "Well, to be frank, uh, the relationship that you have with your brother and your girlfriend seems dangerously codependent. I think a little time apart will do you three good." Fuller said then he walks away.
The boys and I watch him go, confused. Then Dean waves goodbye to us.
Sam, Martin and I sit in a circle with Dr Fuller and a few other patients. "Alright, so...who would like to start us off?" Fuller asked and one guy raises his hand. "Anyone else?" Fuller asked, obviously a bit annoyed as the guy raises his hand a little higher.
"Alright, Ted. Calm down." Fuller said and Ted lowers his hand. "I am calm. And I'd very calmly like to talk about the monster that's hunting us." Ted said and I raise an eyebrow at this. "Ted, we're not going to have that discussion again." Fuller said while Sam and I exchange looks, intrigued. "It's not good for group." said Fuller.
"I agree. You know what else isn't good for group? A monster eating all our faces off." Ted said, worried. "Alright, fine, thank you. Now, anyone else?" Fuller asked but Ted continues. "I saw it...when it killed Susan." he said. "I did, too. It had big lobster claws." another patient said. "No, it didn't." Ted said, annoyed.
"Yeah, and it was an alien, like on X-Files." Another patient said and Ted becomes angry. "Stop it. Stop helping. Listen to me. We're all dead!" Ted yells. "That's enough." Fuller said then he leans forward and takes off his glasses. "There is no monster." Fuller said and I look at him.
"Now, Ted, do you need me to call the orderlies.." Fuller said and Ted shakes his head. "...or can you behave?" Fuller asked and Ted nods. "Behave." he said and Sam and I exchange looks again while Martin looks over at us.
Later, Sam and I walk out to the hall and see Dean following several patients down the hall, his hands in his pockets and staring at the floor. He looked kind of depressed. "Dean, hey." Sam called out and Dean turns to us and I frown. "You okay?" I asked him. "I just got thraped. So, no, I am not okay. Tell me you guys found something." Dean said.
"Yeah. A guy says he saw the creature. We should talk to him. You wanna meet here in an hour?" Sam asked Dean. "Yeah, sooner we take care of this thing, sooner we can get gone. This place gives me the creeps." Dean said. "Yeah, same here." I said just as Dean turns around and a girl comes up, puts a hand on the back of his head and kisses him.
Anger flared in my chest and I grab the woman off of him. "Hey, back off!" I growled as I push her away from Dean and stand in front of him. "He's off limits." I stated as the girl looks at me, terrified, then she runs off. I huff out a sigh as Sam raises an eyebrow at me and I turn to Dean, who had a small smile.
"What?" I asked him. "You being jealous..." he said, pointing at me. "...will never not be hot." He said and I roll my eyes at him. "Let's just get this over with before I lose my mind." I said as I stomp pass the boys down the hall.
Later, Dean and I were waiting on Sam until he walks out of his cell with a lock-pick in his hand. "Well, it's about time. Nurses are on their rounds. We got, like, fifteen, twenty minutes." I said and Sam rolls his eyes.
"So, where is this guy?" Dean asked. "Room 306." Sam replied and we head down the hall towards Ted's room. As we round the corner, we hear Ted screaming. We rush to Ted's door and look in the window while Sam begins to pick the lock.
"Hurry up! Come on, hurry up!" Dean yells at Sam as we see Ted's feet slam against the window. "Back off, Dean!" Sam shouts as he looks up at him. Sam returns to picking the lock, and then we lunge into the room to find Ted hanging from a pipe in the ceiling, a tied bed sheet around his neck.
The next day, we sneak into the morgue and Dean opens Ted's drawer and pulls him out. I pull back the sheet and start feeling Ted's head while Sam searches his hands. Then I find two holes just behind Ted's ears. "Hey, I think I found something." I said.
"What do you got?" Dean asked me. "Right here." I said as I point out the holes then I turn to Sam. "Hey, Sam, give me a hand." I said and Sam hands me a long Q-tip from a table and I stick it far into the hole. "This hole goes all the way through to his brain." I said. "What does that mean?" Dean asked.
"Let's find out." Sam said and Dean and I look up at him to see he is pointing at a bone saw. "Seriously?" Dean and I asked and Sam looks over at Dean. "You might want to keep watch." he tells him and Dean backs off and walks outside of the morgue.
Sam grabs the bone saw then goes over to Ted and places it at the top of his head. I wince as he saws at the top of Ted's head the he takes it off then removes his brain, which was a small, hard, black thing.
"What the...?" I asked as we looked at it but then Dean comes in. "Guys." He said, in a warning tone. "Look, his brain's been sucked dry." Sam said as he holds up the brain. "That's fascinating. Somebody's coming." Dean said and we hurry to clean up. Sam puts Ted's brain back in his head and back on.
Dean rolls Ted back into his drawer as Sam and I remove our bloody gloves and throw them in the trashcan just as one of the nurse walks in. "What are you three doing in here?" she asked us and we stand there, I couldn't think of what to say or do. And then that's when my wonderful boyfriend shrugs and pulls down his pants, and throws his arms over his head.
"Pudding!" he exclaims and he does a little jump while I close my eyes for a moment and question everything in my life. The nurse smiles at Dean then said. "Alright, come on, you three."
Dean smiles goofily and pulls his pants back up. As he heads for the door, Dean turns back towards us. "Crazy works." he whispers to us and he walks off. Sam and I share a quick glance before we follow him out. The nurse chuckles as she follows us out the door.
Later, in the lounge, Martin, Dean, Sam and I look at paintings of clowns on the walls.n"Are those original Gacy's?" I joked as I chuckle. "I painted those." Martin said, a bit offended. "It's good." I said and Sam shakes his head.
"Back on point, please. Um...so, whatever this thing is...It Slurpees your brain, sucks you dry." Sam explains. "Yeah, then it makes the deaths look like suicides. Any ideas?" Dean asked Martin. "Yeah. A bad one." Martin said then he shows us a drawing in his journal.
"What is it?" Dean asked. "Well, I bet you a chicken dinner it's what we're up against...a wraith. They crack open skulls and feed on brain juice." Martin explains. "You ever tangle with one before?" Sam asked. "Never. Never wanted to, neither." Martin said.
"So, how do we kill it?" I asked him. "Silver. You so much as touch a wraith with the stuff, and the skin will crackle. Now, that's the good news. The bad news is...they can pass as humans." Martin said then we look around the room. "It could be any Peter, Paul and Mary in the joint." Martin said. "Fantastic." I muttered, annoyed.
"So, how do we find it?" Dean asked. "A mirror. Lore says a wraith will show its true form in a mirror." Martin said. "Okay, well, we just gotta spot check every patient and every staff member." Dean said and Sam and I nod. "Okay. Yeah. But--I mean, what's it doing in a mental hospital?" Sam asked. "A nuthouse; it's-it's-it's a perfect captive victim pool." I pointed out. "Sure. Who's gonna believe a patient when they say they saw a monster? It's the perfect hunting ground." Martin said
Later, Dean told us that Fuller was the wraith as he saw his true form in the mirror. So he, Martin and I wait in the hall until Sam walks up to us. "Alright, I had to raid three nurses' stations to get these." Sam said and he hands Dean a letter opener. "They're only silver-plated, but they should work." Sam said as he hands Martin another hand letter then hands me another.
Then the girl that kissed Dean starts heading our way. "Oh, no you don't..." I said to her when she walks up to Sam, pushes him against the wall and starts kissing him. Dean and I watch in shock while Sam looks flustered, waiting for the girl to finish.
"I want him now." the girl said then she looks at Dean. "He's larger and free." She said then she walks away. "Hm." Dean and I hum and Dean shrugs at Sam. "You've had worse." Dean said and Sam scoffs.
"Fuller is on call tonight, so we'll have to hit him after lights out. All four of us." Sam said. "What? No." Martin said, a bit panicked. "Martin, we gotta get past security, past the orderlies, and then cut the boss-man's throat, okay? It's gonna suck start to finish, but we could use the backup." Dean tells Martin. "Oh, I can't. I can't." Martin said then he begins to walk away.
"We know what happened in Albuquerque." Sam tells him and Martin stops. "You don't know the half of it." he said and he turns to us. "God, I used to be just like you three. I used to think I was invincible, and then...Well, I found out I'm not." he explained. "Martin, you're still a hunter." I said. "No. I'm not. I'm useless. Why do you think I checked myself into the Hotel California? I'd give anything to help you boys, I would. But, I-I can't. I'm sorry. I can't." Martin said, upset, and he walks away.
Later, the boys and I walk into the office, but Fuller is not there. Dean picks up car keys from the desk. "He's still in the building. You take the west wing. (y/n) and I'll take the east." Dean said as he sets the keys back down, and we leave the office.
*3rd Person POV*
Sam walks down a hallway, holding his knife at the ready. He looks in each room he passes and goes to another hallway and looks around the corner. He sees Fuller heading his way so Sam stands up against the wall, waiting.
As Fuller rounds the corner, Sam steps forward, raising the blade. Fuller puts an arm up as Sam brings the blade down, cutting Fuller's arm. Fuller yells, and Sam takes another swing before two orderlies grab Sam and begin to drag him away. Sam struggles and throws off one orderly and punches the other.
The first orderly approaches, but Sam knocks his head into a window, shattering it. He goes back to the other orderly and punches him twice while Fuller runs. Sam grabs the blade from the ground and follows then he tackles Fullee to the ground and raises the blade.
But Martin grabs Sam's arm. "No! No! Look at his arm. That cut's not burning." Martin tells him and Sam looks at the cut. "It's not him. It's not him." Martin assures and Sam begins to realize and drops the blade. He stares at Fuller, stunned at what he almost did.
*(y/n)'s POV*
Dean opens the door and he and I walk in to see Sam sitting on his bed. "You okay?" Dean asked Sam as we approach his bed. "No. No, I'm not okay. I--I am...awesome..." Sam said, giggling. "They give you something?" I asked him. "Oh, yeah. They gave me...everything. It's spectacu-lacular." Sam said before he laughs. "You always were a happy drunk." Dean jokes
Then Sam grows serious and grabs Dean's arm, pulling him down to eye level. "Dean...the doctor...wasn't a wraith." Sam said. "We know." I tell Sam, who looks at me with a comically stunned look. Like he was surprised that we'd know that. "I don't understand it. I mean, I saw it in the mirror. It wasn't human." Dean said, thinking. "Or you're seeing things. Maybe-maybe-maybe you're going crazy." Sam said. "I'm not crazy." Dean said, defensively. "Well..." I said, feigning to be thinking, then he turns to me. "Shut up!" He tells me.
"Well...come on. I mean, you've been at least...half crazy for a long time, and since you got back from hell, or since before that, even. I mean, we're in a--we're in a mental hospital." Sam laughs. "Maybe-Maybe you finally cracked! You know, maybe now you are really...for real...crazy..." Sam continues.
"I made a mistake, that's all. (Y/n) and I'll find the thing." Dean said. "Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. I know." Sam said as he puts a hand on Dean's shoulder. Dean then looks at Sam's hand. "It's okay. Hey, hey. Look at me." Sam said and Dean looks at him. "It's okay...because you're my brother...and I still love ya." Sam said and Dean nods then Sam pokes Dean's nose and said. "Bop!"
I start to laugh as Dean stares at him. "Can we keep this Sam?" I asked Dean and he turns and glares at me while I continue to giggle.
We leave Sam's room and Dean and I share a look. "What do we do now?" I asked him. "I think we should split up and look for this Wraith." Dean said and I nod then we split up.
*3rd Person POV*
Later, Dean was walking down the hallway and through a door when Dr Cartwright, his doctor, comes up next to him. "You missed our session today." she said to him. "A little busy." Dean grumbles to her. "Still hunting that wraith?" she asked him. "People are dying." Dean states. "People die all the time." Cartwright said. "Look, lady, why don't you just let me do my job, maybe save your life." Dean growls. "It's not my life that I'm worried about." she said.
"Oh, my G--I am fine, okay?" Dean yells, exasperated, as he stops and turns towards her. "I'm fine." He said while an orderly, who is sorting laundry down the hall, looks up at him, but goes back to his job. "Come on, even you don't believe that. All this pressure that you're putting yourself under, all this guilt; it's killing you. You can't save everybody. You can't." she said then her voice becomes hard.
"Hell, these days, you can't save anybody, Dean." she said then she turns to leave. "What did you say?" Dean asked and she turns back to him. "The truth, Dean. You got Ellen and Jo killed. You shot Lucifer, but you couldn't gank him." she said and Dean begins to get confused and a little afraid. "You couldn't stop Sam from killing Lilith, and--oh, yeah--you broke the first seal. All you do is fail. Did you really think that you, Dean Winchester with a GED and a give-'em-hell attitude, were gonna beat the devil?" Cartwright asked and Dean starts to get a little more afraid.
"Please. The world is gonna burn, and there is nothing that you can do about it." she said. "Who are you?" Dean asked, softly. "How do you know that stuff?" he asked, his voice rising. The orderly sorting laundry looks up again. "Hey, settle down." the orderly said but Dean ignores him.
"Tell me!" Dean yells at Cartwright. Then the orderly walks around his cart and begins to approach Dean. "I said, settle down." the orderly said. "Who are you?" Dean asked Cartwright again, quietly, then he backs away from her a little and looks at the orderly.
"Who is she?" Dean asked the orderly as he points at Cartwright. "Who?" the orderly asked, confused. "What are you, blind?" Dean asked him and he points again. "Her!" he yells. "Pal, there's nobody there." the orderly said and Dean stares at him then looks back at Cartwright, who has a twisted smile on her face.
"I'm not real, Dean. I'm in your head...because you are going crazy." she said and Dean looks around the hallway, Cartwright disappeared. Then he looks at the Ordrerly, beginning to fear for his sanity. "Just leave me alone." Dean mutters and he stalks down the hallway, and the Orderly watches him go.
(Y/n), on the other hand, sees a nurse and a doctor in a different hallway. She passes a mirror, where she sees that they look like a wraith. Confused, she passes them and sees two patients, who look like wraiths in another mirror. She passes them as well, heading for the end of the hall where she tries to open a door, but it is locked. She backs into the corner and slides down to the floor, panting. Her eyes follow everything in the hall, looking freaked. What the hell is going on? She thought to herself.
She pulls her knees up to her and placed her forehead against her knees, feeling a bit overwhelmed. "(Y/n)?" A male voice said, it wasn't Dean or Sam or even Martin but it was a familiar voice, a voice she hadn't heard in a long time. "(Y/n)?" The voice said and (y/n) started to realize why the voice sounded familiar.
She raises her head up then looks over to her left and sees a man sitting next to her. She jumps a bit at this and falls over to her right side at this. "D-D-Dad?" She said, shocked, and he smiles at her. "Hey, sweetpea." He greets as (y/n) stares at him, shocked. "T-T-This isn't real." She whispers and he chuckles. “Does it matter? I’m here.” (F/n) said. “I’m losing my mind, aren’t I?” (Y/n) asked, unable to take her eyes off of him. “A little.“ He said, in a soft and loving voice.
“We should have never come here.” (Y/n) muttered. “Why? Because your screw has become loose? You came in here to help people.” (F/n) said. “Yeah and a lot of help I’m doing them.” (Y/n) said, sarcastically. “You still came in here of your own free will, with the intention on saving lives. That’s my girl, alright.” (F/n) said, with a proud smile. (Y/n) begins to tear up and she looks away to wipe her eyes. “Well, I learned from the best.” She said, smirking a bit.
“This is for the best anyway. Out there you’ll just get more people killed.” (F/n) said, all the warmth and comfort in his voice was gone, replaced with cold and bitterness. “What?” (Y/n) asked, turning her head back to see her father’s once soft expression was now harden and angry.
“Think about…first my wife dies because the demon wanted you. Then he puts cancer in me to get to you. Dean goes to hell because he had to bring you back. A lot of good that did, it just got Jo and Ellen killed too, didn’t it?” (F/n) asked, looking down at his daughter like she was nothing but a burden on everyone who knows her.
“I…” (Y/n) tried to argue but she couldn’t bring herself to do so. Some part of her believed what he was saying. “You get people killed, sweetpea. That’s your reality. Sooner or later you’re gonna get Dean killed again. And then Sam and Bobby and the angels. Everyone you love and care about is going to die, all because of you.” (F/n) said, his words getting louder and louder as he continued berating her.
(Y/n) looked at her father, terrified. “You’re…you’re not my dad. He would never say that to me.” She muttered. “Are you sure? How do you think he would react to all the little things you can do now?” (F/n) asked.
(Y/n) looks away, unable to answer him. “If he knew what you were. What’s inside you. He would’ve killed you when he had the chance.” (F/n) said and (y/n) covers her ears with her hands, trying to block him out. “Stop!” She said, closing her eyes tight.
“You know John would have kill Sam the moment he found out he had demon blood in him. You really think I’d be any different? We were partners after all.” (F/n) said. “Shut up!” (Y/n) yelled, tearing up again. “You know I didn’t put up much of a fight when John killed Jo’s daddy. I wouldn’t have fought for you either. I’d put you out of your misery the second I learn that my little girl isn’t even human.” (F/n) taunted. “I SAID SHUT UP!” (Y/n) shouted and a nearby vase had fallen and crash
She raises her head, looks at the broken vase then sees a few people looking at her and she glares at them. "The hell you looking at?" She asked, savagely, before she gets up and walks away.
Later, Dean was sitting at a table by the window in the lounge when he sees Sam walking out with an orderly, who obviously was keeping an eye on him. Instead of Sam coming over to Dean, he walked over to the checker table and saw that he was talking to nobody.
Then he starts to look around, scared, and starts to punch at the air, like he was fighting people. Two orderlies come up to him and try to calm him and one of the orderlies grabs him. "Leave me alone!" Sam shouts as he punches him then the orderlies grab him by the arms. "Leave me alone! Leave me alone! No! Stop it! Leave me alone! Leave me alone! I didn't do it! Get off of me!" Sam screams as the orderlies drag SAM down the hall. "Leave me alone! Get off! No! Leave me alone!" Sam continues to scream as Dean thinks.
"What's happening? What's happening?" Dean said to himself, quietly.
Martin was sleeping fitfully in his bed until he hears the door open, and he sits up, brandishing the silver blade. It is Dean, who is standing next to the bed, holding his hands out and looking scared.
"Martin, Martin, it's me. It's Dean." Dean said, quietly. "Oh, sorry." Martin said as he lowers the blade. Dean puts a hand to his forehead. "You--You look like hell, boy." Martin said and Dean nods. "I-I feel like it, too." Dean said. "Where's Sam and (y/n)?" Martin asked. "I don't know where (y/n) is, can't seem to find her. But Sam...Lockdown! He went crazy! Thank God." Dean said. "What?" Martin asked, confused.
"I'm going crazy, too. I'm seeing things. I'm hearing things. I mean, we both are. Crazy is the clue." Dean said, pacing a bit. "What do you mean?" Martin asked and Dean begins to explain, but he stops and stares at the other side of the room.
After a moment, Martin snaps his fingers in Dean's face. "Dean!" Martin said as Dean jolts a little and looks back at him. "Crazy is the clue." he said. "You said that. What?" Martin said, confused. "I mean, the things that me and Sam have done, the stuff that we've seen, we're gonna end up going guano eventually. Probably end up like a couple of drooling nut bags." Dean explains then he realizes what he's said. "No offense." he said. "None taken." Martin said.
"But me and him, freaking out on the same day? I mean, it's gotta be..." Dean said. "The monster..." Martin said and Dean starts to freak out and looks around. "What? Where? Where?" He asked as he ducks down at the side of the bed. "No--It's not--No, there's nothing there." Martin assures as Dean crouches next to his bed.
"Okay. What if this thing doesn't just feed on the insane? What if it makes people insane? Is it possible? Does that seem real?" Dean asked, begging. "Well, I'm not the most reliable source on what is real, but it sounds--It makes sense." Martin said. "Okay. Okay. So-so we got infected. You know, something shot us up with crazy. You know, something..." Dean said then he begins to realize something. "Maybe...maybe it's the ghost of my dad..." Dean said. "No. Focus on the wraith, Dean. Focus." Martin said and Dean realizes he is right.
"Right, the wraith, the wraith." he said as he stands. "Okay. So, the wraith, the wraith, it-it poisoned us. It--Yeah. Maybe with venom, you know? By-by touch...or-or venom, or saliva." Dean said then he freezes. "That girl." Dean said. "You mean Wendy?" Martin asked and Dean nods. "Yes! She slobbered all over me and Sam! That's how we got infected!" he exclaims.
Later, Martin and Dean walk around the corner, heading for Wendy's room. Although, Dean is walking awkwardly and Martin notices and looks down at Dean's feet. He is walking in weird spots on the tiled floor. "Dean?" Martin asked as he stops and Dean stops also, noticing his weird look. "I can't step on the cracks." Dean said when footsteps come up behind them.
They turn around and see (y/n) coming up to them. "Hey, where have you been?" Martin asked her. "I needed some space." (Y/n) said, tiredly. "So what are you boys doing? Where's Sam?" She asked. "Sam's on lockdown. He went crazy. And we think that chick that kissed me and Sam is the wraith." Dean said and (y/n) narrows her eyes.
"It can't be her." (Y/n) said. "Why not? You can get infected by saliva, touch or venom!" Dean said and (y/n) shakes her head. "Dean, it can't be her." She said again. "Why not?" Martin and Dean asked. "Because I'm going crazy in here. I've been seeing things, hearing things....and she hasn't come near me, let alone kissed me." She said and Dean and Martin stare at her, surprised.
Suddenly, a woman screams, and they hurry off. Dean kicks in the door to find Wendy on her bed, her wrists slit. Sitting on the bed over Wendy is the nurse that brought them in and had been taking care of them. Dean and (y/n) look over in a mirror to see that the nurse looks like the wraith. They look back at the bed.
"Is this real?" Dean asked and the wraith withdraws her hand from Wendy's head. There is a skewer sticking out of her wrist, which enter Wendy's head. The Wraith brings it up and licks it off before it goes back into her wrist. "Oh, it is, Sugar. It's very real." she said then she throws Dean against the wall. Martin and (y/n) attack the wraith with their blades, but she throws them into the hall.
The Wraith pins Dean to the wall by the throat and punches him a bunch of times. Martin, meanwhile, grabs his blade and attacks the wraith. The monster releases Dean and puts a hand up to shield herself. Martin cuts her hand, and she yells as Dean slides to the floor. The Wraith's cut is burning and crackling, and she shuts the door, locking them in with Wendy. (Y/n) wakes up and shakes her head, which felt a bit cloudy and heavy, and both her and Martin see that Dean is disoriented.
Martin gets up to check on Wendy while (y/n) checks on Dean. After a moment, Wendy blinks. "She's still alive." Martin assures them.
The wraith heads down the hall, cradling her hand, and spots two orderlies. "There's three patients in Wendy's room. They attacked me." she tells them and the two orderlies rush off. The wraith watches them go and smiles, her hand drips blood as she heads down the hall.
"Dean? Can you hear me? Dean!" (Y/n) said as Dean looks up at her. "You two have gotta get out there and kill that thing. I'll take care of her." Martin tells (y/n), who shakes her head. "Not without you." She said. "You have to. You have no choice." Martin said.
Then the two orderlies walk in and grab Martin, who fights back, which makes the orderlies distracted and not notice Dean and (y/n). "Go. Kids, run! Run!" Martin shouts and (y/n) helps Dean up to his feet and they run out the door.
Dean falls against the wall, looking around, the hallway seems to spin in front of him. "Dean, c'mon!" (Y/n) pleads as he looks up at the lights, which are very bright and spin also. (Y/n) looks down at the floor to see blood droplets leading down the hallway then she felt her head pounding. "C'mon, I gotcha." She assured Dean as she helps him up again and they follow the blood trail, all the while she tries to fight through the fog feeling in her head.
Sam, on the other hand, is lying on a bed in a padded room. His ankles are strapped down, along with his wrists. The door opens, and the wraith walks in. "Hey! Let me go!" Sam shouts at her. "No. You are far too angry to be out there in the real world." she tells him and they both look up at a mirror to see that she looks like the wraith.
"You." Sam said, in realization. "Of course, it's me." she said as she looks back at Sam. "I gotta say, you hunters don't exactly live up to your rep." she said as she circles the bed. "I mean, Martin's a wreck. He's harmless." she said as Sam begins to fight the restraints.
"And you, your brother and that girl come in here, talking tough about killing monsters...kind of made you easy to spot. Then all it took was a touch..." she said and Sam realizes what happened. "...and you were mine. Oh, I love it in here." the wraith smiles as she kneels down at the head of the bed.
"This place is my own personal five-star restaurant." she said and she trails a finger across Sam's forehead and Sam jerks his head away from her. The wraith sticks her finger in her mouth and licks it, moaning. "Crazy brains." she moans then she trails another finger across his forehead. "They get soaked in dopamine and adrenaline and all sorts of hormones and chemicals that make them...delicious." she said as she licks her finger off. "And the crazier they are, the better they taste." She giggles.
"You did this to me!" Sam growls. "Well, I helped. But that rage? No, no, no. That's all you." the wraith said and she stands, walks to the side of the bed. "I don't make crazy. I just crank up what's already there." she said and Sam let's out a yell while she sits beside him.
"You build your own hell, but I give you the Legos. And when you're ripe..." she explains as a skewer pops out of her arm next to Sam's head. "...I make all of your problems disappear." she said and she turns his head to the side, sticking the skewer closer to his head.
Suddenly, the door flies open, and Dean and (y/n) stumble through. "You get away from him." Dean yells at her then the wraith stands to face the two. "Do you really think this is gonna end well for you, kiddos?" she asked them. "No." Dean said then he and (y/n) take out a silver blade each. "But we're crazy. So, what the hell?" Dean said, smiling.
The wraith chuckles and raises her hand, dher skewer goes back into her arm. Dean swings the blade at her, but she ducks and throws him into the wall. (y/n) goes after her and she grabs (y/n)'s arm, throwing her into the wall. (y/n) drops her blade while Sam watches helpless from the bed.
Dean gets up and goes to attack her but  she throws Dean into the other wall, pinning him by the throat. Dean grabs her hand as she raises her other one. The skewer jumps out, and she aims it at his forehead. Dean grabs the other arm, trying to hold it away from his head. The skewer comes out a little more, getting closer to his head. Dean grunts as he tries to push it away.
(Y/n) then comes up behind the wraith and stabs her on the shoulder with the silver blade she dropped. The wraith screams as her skin sizzles and blood pours out of the wound then Dean grabs the skewer with one of his hands and breaks it off. The wraith continues to scream and elbows (y/n) off of her as she backs into the other wall, holding her skewer hand, which is now spurting blood.
Dean holds the skewer for a moment, dropping it in revulsion. The wraith turns towards him, yelling in rage, while (y/n) tosses the blade to Dean, who then stabs the blade into the wraith's heart. The silver burns her as she hits the wall and slides to the floor.
Sam, Dean and (y/n) stare at her while Dean vision loses its fragmented pieces and becomes normal again. And (y/n) didn't feel like her head was cloudy anymore. "You still crazy?" Sam asked them as he watches the two, warily. CNot any more than usual." Dean said as he and (y/n) head over to Sam's bed, leaning over it.
"We gotta get out of here." (y/n) said as her and Dean remove Sam's restraints. "Yeah." Sam said when the alarm bell rings, and they all look up at the doorway, staring.
*(y/n)'s POV*
The boys and I burst out of the side door as the alarm bell still rings and we run towards the parking lot and the woods until we approach the Impala. "Well, looks like Tom Cruise was right. Shrinks suck." Dean quips as he reaches the driver's door and I go to the passenger but stop when I see Sam istanding at the trunk, sighing.
"What are you doing? Sam? You okay?" I asked him. "No. No. The wraith--" Sam said. "What about her?" Dean asked him. "She was right." Sam said. "No, she wasn't. She's dead, okay? Let's hit the road. I need a drink, or twelve." Dean said. "Same here." I said. "Most of the time, I can hide it, but...I am angry. I'm mad at everything. I used to be mad at you and Dad, Dean, then Lilith, now it's Lucifer, and I make excuses. I blame Ruby or the demon blood, but it's not their fault. It's not them. It's me. It's inside me. I'm mad...all the time...and I don't know why." Sam said, who looked very anguished and exasperated.
I shake my head and step closer to him. "Stop. Stop it. So what if you are? What are you gonna do? You gonna take a leave of absence? You gonna say yes to Lucifer? What?" I asked him. "No, of course not. I--" Sam said and Dean talks over him. "Exactly. And that's exactly what you're gonna do. You're gonna take all that crap and you're gonna bury it. You're gonna forget about it, because that's how we keep going! That's how we don't end up like Martin! Are you with us?" Dean asked as he gestures between me and Dean but Sam stays silent.
"Come on, Sam. Are you with us?" I asked, worried, and he looks at me and nods. "I'm with you guys." He said. "Good. Let's get the hell out of here." Dean said as he gets into the Impala. I turn to the passenger door but stop and turn to Sam, who is hesitating.
I place a hand on his shoulder and he looks at me. I give him a sympathetic and encouraging smile. He nods at me then gets into the backseat and I get into the passenger seat. Dean then drives us away into the night.
But as we drive along, even though I know it was a hallucination, the words that my father said kept ringing in my ears.
You get people killed, sweetpea. That’s your reality. Sooner or later you’re gonna get Dean killed again. And then Sam and Bobby and the angels. Everyone you love and care about is going to die, all because of you.

Journey to the Dungeon
Warnings: mentions of hell, slight cursing, weapons, Crowley (who’s a warning in himself), demons, let me know if I missed any :)
Pairings: Crowley x child reader, Winchester brothers x sister reader
*not my gif*
Summary: Boredom often times leads to adventure, you appeared to have learned this quicker than most
A/N: Wth is this, you ask? I have absolutely no idea; special thanks to @foggy-isnt-here for motivating me to write this lmao
Please don’t plagiarize my work, you may reblog if you like but I’m asking that you don’t steal my hard work
Tumblr media
You were bored. Your brothers weren’t paying attention to you, they were too busy reading in the library for a hunt.
Technically you weren’t supposed to know about whatever this ‘hunt’ thing was, but it wasn’t your fault they were talking really loudly while you were eavesdropping!
And Uncle Cass wasn’t at home right then so there was nothing that six year old you could do but wander around the many halls of the bunker.
You discovered many rooms, most you doubted you were allowed to be in, but when you’re bored, you’re bored.
You finally stumbled across a room with lots of different shelves in it that were filled with boxes.
The young girl looked down the aisles curiously until you got to the back of the room.
Two shelves were cracked apart slightly and you peeked your eye through to try and find something, only to not see anything.
Your curiosity yet again got the better of you and you pushed the shelves apart as far as you could with all the strength your little body could muster.
A light instantly flashed on and you were greeted by the sight of a man in chains sitting on a chair inside a weird red circle design, with his hands resting on a table in front of him.
“Hello little one,” the man said, tilting his head to the side, “who are you?” He asked, even though he already had a good idea that this was the Winchester’s little sister he had heard about from some of his demons.
Nothing about this scenario seemed to frighten the five year old, as you confidently stated, “Y/n.”
“Y/n, what a lovely name.” The stranger complimented.
“And who are you?” You asked, not rudely, just out of pure curiosity, a trait that seems to make up most of your personality.
The man flashed a grin, “I, my dear, am Crowley. The king of hell.”
Your eyes widened and Crowley smirked to himself, obviously thinking he scared the poor girl. But the reaction turned out to be the exact opposite when you squealed excitedly, “King? Does that mean you have a palace? And a handsome prince? Ooh, how handsome is he? What’s his name? Can I visit your palace? Do you have horses? Or unicorns? Do mermaids come visit your castle?”
The demon's eyes widened, this was not what he was expecting. “Did you not hear me? I am the king of hell!” He informed you again.
You shook your head disapprovingly, “You said a no-no word.” Remembering what Sam had told you in panic when Dean said ‘hell’ in front of you once.
Crowley was beyond bewildered. He didn’t scare the girl, you thought he was some king like in the movies, and on top of all of that, you were scolding him for cursing!
“Where did you come up with ideas like those?” The king of hell asked, referring to your million questions from earlier.
“Disney.” You said in a duh tone.
Crowley tilted his head to the side again, this time out of confusion, “Disney?”
The young girl's eyes widened out of pure fear, “You’ve never seen a Disney movie?” You asked in a horrified whisper.
When the demon shook his head you came up with an idea.
You quickly took out her phone that Sam and Dean gave you to only use for emergencies. And if this wasn’t an emergency, you didn’t know what was.
You marched right up the Crowley, through the devils trap, and to his chair, where you quickly clambered up onto his lap, as he sat frozen with shock.
You paid no mind to him as you held the phone out in front of both of you and went to the movies app where you had secretly downloaded some Disney movies behind Sam and Dean’s backs.
You pressed play to the first one, Sleeping Beauty, before Crowley could even finish processing what was happening.
When he snapped out of it he looked down at the young girl in his lap who was quietly singing along to the opening song that was playing.
He turned his attention to the small screen and to his surprise he found himself absorbed in the movie. He even let out a small gasp when Maleficent turned herself into a dragon later on in the movie, and sighing with relief when the prince is able to wake up Arora.
One movie led to another and pretty soon you had both had finished Sleeping Beauty, Frozen (Crowley’s personal favorite), and were half way through the Princess and the Frog when Sam and Dean came barging into the room. They had been looking all over the bunker for you when they finally finished their research and this happened to be the last room (when in reality it should’ve been their first with such a dangerous demon sitting in there).
Their eyes widened in shock at the scene in front of them, which quickly turned into rage.
They both were across the room faster than you could blink and had already picked you up and brought you across the dungeon and had the demon blade to Crowley’s neck.
Dean dug the knife into the king's neck as Sam tightly held his little sister to his chest protectively from across the room.
“What the hell did you do to her?” Dean roared with fury.
“I did not do anything, Squirrel.” Crowley said calmly.
You wriggled in Sam’s grip, “Put me down Sammy, I want to finish the Princess and the Frog.”
Both brothers' eyes widened and they turned to look at their sister.
“You were… watching a Disney movie this whole time?” Sam asked after a moment.
“Two actually.” Crowley corrected, “And we were trying to get through our third one before you two rudely interrupted.” He would never admit it out loud, but the king of hell actually enjoyed the movies, and the young girls company.
Dean turned his glare back on and to the chained man, “You never go near her again you, understand me?”
“But De!” You complained from Sam’s arms, “We still need to see Moana!”
“No!” Both brothers practically screeched in sync.
Sam started to walk out of the room with you still wiggling in his arms, with Dean slowly- and reluctantly- following behind.
They both so badly wanted to kill Crowley right then and get it over with, but they couldn’t chance it with you being in the room. And they needed him for information.
You and Crowley made eye contact over Sam’s shoulder and the demon gave you a small smile and a little wave which you returned with some of you own.
After that Sam and Dean scolded you and told you that you were never allowed near that man again. But you didn’t listen to them.
Later that night you snuck out and finished the movie with Crowley and even started Moana like you two had wanted to.
When you started falling asleep on his lap, Crowley told you to go to bed. You refused but he told you that they could do this again the next night.
So that’s what they did, each night you would sneak out of your room to watch another Disney movie with Crowley.
Neither one said anything about it, but it was your favorite part of their days.
And little did you know, Crowley grew very fond of her and vowed to himself he would never let anything happen to the small girl who danced around and sang on his lap as they happily watched Disney movies together every night.

"I'm coming with," you say after Benny tells you what exactly is going on.
"I don't think that's wise," Benny says before Dean can say something. "I can hear both heartbeats pretty clearly. The other vampires will hear them from a mile away."
"I can fix that." Your hands glow with blue magic, and you place them both on your growing belly, letting your skin absorb the magic. "Can you hear them now?" Benny listens for a few seconds before shaking his head. "Good. I've cloaked the sound. These vampires won't hear them, and we'll be in the clear. You'll need a witch on your team. I have a feeling."
"Alright then. Let's go. Boat's waiting."
"Boat?"
"Yeah we're going to an island."
Benny takes you and Dean down to the docks where a small sailboat is waiting. You get onto the boat with Dean's help, and the two men take the rope off before jumping inside.
"Well, it's good to know you two are still dumb as ever."
"Yeah, well, some things never change. Now, why are you getting into machete fights with your own kind?"
"Quentin, the one I came for? We were in the same nest. I'm hunting the vampire who turned me, my maker."
"Well, now, don't get me wrong. I'm down with hunting, but, uh... why?"
"To kill him before he kills me... again." You groan and lean back, putting one hand on your stomach. This is the part in your pregnancy where you're uncomfortable with everything. "Are you sure you should be hunting?"
"I'll be fine, Benny."
"What?"
"What?"
"I didn't say anything."
You must have read his thoughts. This has been a pain in your ass ever since you discovered it. You can hear people's thoughts all the time, but you've ignored almost all of them. Sometimes it's hard to distinguish who is actually speaking and who is thinking.
"Oh yeah, she can read minds now. I thought you knew that."
"Not really."
"I appreciate your concern, Benny, I really do. I fought plenty of angels and demons with a baby in my womb, and I fought Leviathans with the same baby on my hip. I can fight a few vampires easily."
"I trust her to take a step back if she knows she'll end up doing more damage than good," Dean backs you up. "I think it's batshit crazy, but I trust her."
"And that's why he married me." That's not the reason why he married you, but you're just going with the flow with the witty banter. "So, tell us about Quinten."
"Quentin and I go way back. He's one of the old man's favorites, next to me, it turns out. Check this out."
Benny takes out a notebook from his bag and hands it over to Dean. This is everything he has on Quinten and his maker, Sorento. Dean takes the notebook and flips through the pages, stopping on one of importance.
"Listen to this. 'Age of Aquarius II, 0800', and then there's some other numbers all crossed out. Some other weird names here, too: the Big Mermaid and Solitaire. They're all crossed out, except this one: the Lucky Myra."
"Yachts. Names of yachts: Lucky Myra and Age of Aquarius II." Benny takes back the notebook and shows Dean another one. "Look at this one: Sea You Later, spelled S-E-A. I mean, come on."
"Are those launch times?" you wonder. "Destinations?"
"Mm-hmm. Except none of them ever get there. The Lucky Myra left yesterday afternoon. I guarantee you it's already been hit."
"What do you mean, hit?"
"Boarded, burned, and buried at sea. That's how my nest fed... How we always fed. We kept a tight little fleet, maybe a half-dozen boats. Nothing ostentatious, just pleasure craft. I must have circled the Americas ten times during my tour. A few of us would act as stringers and patrol the harbors, looking for the right-size target--fat, rich yachts going to far-off ports. We'd take down the boat's name and destination, radio it to the crew in the water, and then we just let the ocean swallow up all our sins."
"Vampire pirates? That's what you guys are? Vampirates," Dean grins at the name he came up with.
"You know, of all the years we ran together, I can't believe nobody ever thought of that," Benny chuckles.
"So, your maker is set up to feed around here, right? What are we looking for?" you ask.
"Well, he likes to live in style. He usually rents legitimately. Always remote and always coastal. That's why we're going to an island."
"Tell me something. If you were your maker's favorite, why did he kill you?" Dean wonders.
"When you get turned, it's like you're reborn into a vampire nest. Your maker means everything to you. I mean, you really start believing he's God. Now, if your maker happens to believe the same thing, well, it means trouble."
"Yeah, I can imagine that."
"Our father was a jealous God. He kept the family together but kept us apart from the rest of the world, always at sea. I always did what was best for the nest... till I met her. Andrea. Andrea Kormos. Beautiful. I mean, words don't even cut it, you know?"
"Yeah, I do know," Dean smiles and looks at you.
You blush and mouth the words "I love you" to him, and he grabs your hand in response.
"She was sailing a forty-two-foot sloop to the Canary Islands. Now, I should have called her boat's destination into my crew, but instead, I joined her on it."
"Seriously? Was Fabio on the cover of that paperback?" Dean laughs.
"My life changed when she entered it, Dean. Everything I had been or done up to that point seemed to vanish into what we had become together. I mean... We found it, man. Eventually, we settled in Louisiana. Then one night, we were coming home, and the old man was just there. Quentin, Sorento, and my oldest nestmates. It was only that night I understood what a crime it was to him by me leaving him. They pinned me down, and they beheaded me. The last thing I saw was the old man tearing out Andrea's throat."
"I'm so sorry. Benny," you sigh and touch his arm in comfort
"Docks are up ahead. Should be able to find a dinghy to use," Benny says, snapping out of his emotional trance.
The boat pulls up next to a dock, and Dean uses the rope to tie it to the wooden post so the boat doesn't go anywhere. You were the first one on the boat and the last one off. You take Dean's hand and use him as support to get off. The island is big, so the house must be in the middle of the island. There are trees everywhere, providing the perfect shelter.
"We're close," Benny says quietly. Dean and Benny take out their machetes from their bags, but you have your magic to use in place of it. "It's weird being back in the world. Isn't it?"
"Sure as hell is," Dean agrees and tosses the bags onto the ground.
"I mean, what do you do with it all? All the... everything? Hell, I don't even know if this world is real, if I'm real."
You reach out and touch Benny's cheek with your hand, letting his skin absorb your magic.
"I'm real, Benny. My babies are real. You helped protect them. All of this is real and so are you. You're going to get through this."
"I sure hope I do."
You use your magic to break the locks of the house, heading inside quietly. You don't know how many vampires are here or where they are. You pass by an old-looking piano called a harpsichord, but you don't pay any attention to it. However, as soon as Benny sees it, his blood boils.
"The old man's harpsichord."
Benny runs off in another direction, shocking you both.
"Benny!" Dean whispers. You're about to go after him, but Dean pulls you back into his side. "You're not leaving my side, not with a bunch of vampires around."
"Okay," you whisper back.
"We go together."
You two follow in Benny's footsteps, and you spot him in the main room looking at someone on the stairs. You peek over the side of the wall to see a beautiful woman walk down the steps.
"Benny?" she gasps.
"Andrea."
Turns out Sorento found more use of her as a vampire than dead. A man walks up behind Benny, another appears around the corner opposite of where you and Dean are, and a third comes down the stairs behind Andrea. The man behind Benny knocks him to the ground, and you grab Dean's hand to stop yourself from going over to help Benny.
"Idiot," Dean scoffs under his breath.
Benny is handcuffed to a chair, and Sorento leans over him from behind.
"You're gonna make me do this all over again, aren't you?" he smirks.
"Hello, Sorento. He turned you," he says to Andrea who nods.
"We need to go," you whisper to Dean who agrees.
You two stay out of sight from the vampires to a safe part of the house. Sorento doesn't know that Benny brought it back up, and you'd rather keep it that way. Dean's phone rings, showing that Sam is calling. You can't answer it knowing Sam is going to be pissed and speak loudly. He denies the call immediately.
"If we are going to kill Sorento, we need to get rid of his goons. We need to reduce the amount of vampires here," you whisper.
With careful footsteps, you walk down a hallway. A shadow appears on the wall signaling that someone is coming your way. You and Dean duck into a nearby room and wait for the vampire to pass by, only opening the door when it's safe to do so.
"We could really use his help, Dean," you whisper. "I'm calling him."
You take out your phone and dial Sam's number, and he answers it before the first ring could finish.
"Hey, Sam," you whisper.
You and Dean leave the room, heading in the direction the vampire came from.
"Why are you whispering?"
"It's kind of hard to explain right now, but Dean and I are sort of in the middle of cleaning out a vampire's nest, and it's sort of gone a little sideways on us."
"What?!" you take the phone away from your ear and press it to your chest. Sam screamed so loudly that Dean heard him. "Are you an idiot, Y/N? You know better than to go into a vamp nest alone. Even if it's with Dean."
"We're not alone, fuck," you whisper and put the phone back to your ear. "We're not alone. We have back up. It's a guy who's been tracking the nest a while."
"What guy? Garth?"
"No, you don't know him. He's a friend."
"A friend? Y/N, you don't have any--all your friends are dead."
"That's not what I called to talk about!" you hiss. You pull the phone away from your ear and text something to Sam while he talks as if you're listening to him. Once you finish texting him your location, you place the phone to your ear again. "Oh, my fucking god, stop talking. I just texted you where we are."
"Yeah, I got it. I'm on my way. Listen, if you handle it, great. I'll buy your friend the first round. But, Y/N, listen to me."
You end up in some kind of indoor garden with Dean, and there is a vampire headed your way. He must have heard Sam scream into your ear. Without thinking, you place the phone on a pillar before leaving with Dean. Sam is talking as if you're listening to him, but right now, he's bait. You hide with Dean and see the vampire head over to the phone, inspecting it as if he's never seen one before.
You stay where you are, and Dean takes his machete and slices the vampire's head clean off. You come out of hiding and join Dean's side, only to realize that your phone is destroyed since the vampire's body fell on it.
"That's messed up," you sigh and turn around, only to lock eyes with another vampire. "Shit. We've been made."
Since one knows you're here, they all do. All but Sorento and Andrea who are still dealing with Benny. One by one, vampires come from all over to attack, but you're prepared. You use your magic to impale them so you can slice their heads off with your magic. You have your eyes on one end of the hallway while Dean has his eyes on the other end.
Multitude of vampires come from either way, and you and Dean fight to kill every last one of them. Dean uses his machete and you use your magic in the shape of a spear. Soon, the floor is covered with rotting headless bodies.
"I think we did good," you pant.

When the time came for them to leave for the surface, Y/N noticed her cousin was looking sad. She’d had a chance to try and talk to him, promising that she would visit as much as she could and that she was expecting him to visit as well. Thasman had been quick to shrug off her advances, telling her that he knew all of that. Y/N wondered if he was thinking about his parents, whether Bobby and Thames would be together again, whether Thames would decide to stay… She and Dathan kept a close eye on him as they made sure once more that everyone was ready to leave for the surface.
“Thasman?” The sound of Dathan’s voice interrupted the princess, who slowed down to hear the conversation.
“Yes?” Thasman replied as he focused on looking ahead.
“That merman at the market was wrong,” Dathan said. “The people love you, and you are worthy.”
Y/N could see out of the corner of her eye, Thasman’s lips curling into a small smile. “Thank you, Dathan.”
“Thas,” Dathan looked at his friend, “I have known you since our days in the academy. I know the thoughts that plague you. And I want you to believe me when I say the kingdom loves you. Every citizen loves you, Thasman.”
“I don’t know about every citizen, but I appreciate it, old friend.”
“So, you and Roan,” Dathan smirked at Thasman as they swam through the current towards the cave. “I take it you will need to discuss the ceremony when we get back?”
“I think so,” Thasman glanced back at Roan, who was swimming beside Dean, helping the human try and keep pace.
“So, we are going to Dean’s pod?” Dathan asked as he glanced at Dean.
“The place we are going, Dathan,” Thasman said solemnly, “No one else is to know, is that understood?”
Dathan gave a nod as they continued their journey.
There were a total of three guards, including Dathan, that had been trusted enough and assigned to accompany the royal family to the surface. Dean racked his brain as to what he was going to tell everyone when they got back. Bobby and Ellen weren’t a problem because they knew about mermaids, but what about his friends? That would be harder to explain.
“Dean,” Y/N said as she held his hand. “Are you okay? Do you need to rest?”
“Just thinking what I’m gonna tell everybody if they ask where I was,” Dean said before bringing her hand up to his lips and giving it a gentle kiss.
“That is going to be hard to explain,” Y/N agreed. “But Bobby did tell them that you had something called the Flu?” She tilted her head in confusion at him.
“They won’t just buy that. My friends would’ve wanted to check on me. Cas still lives in my house, not to mention I just lost two days straight of work.”
Y/N nodded and let out a soft hum, “are they trustworthy?” she asked with a slightly shaky voice.
“They are, but you don’t need to do what you’re thinking, alright?” he smiled. “I’ll figure something out. I promise.”
“Dean, sooner or later, they are going to ask questions,” she reasoned. “And they’re your friends. I don’t want to come between your friendship.”
“You won’t. But I’m not asking you to do that. I tried to get you to tell me, and it didn’t exactly go well.”
“If the need arises,” she said as they neared the mouth of the cave that led to the surface, “Then we can show them. I’m just happy you can join me every month for a swim.”
“I think that sounds like a good idea, angelfish,” Dean said as he caressed her cheek.
The group swam through the caves underwater, opening and up into the lagoon. Y/N, Dean, Roan, and Thasman led the way with Thames and the king not far behind. The king stayed back with the guards as he watched his daughter, sister, and nephew swim up to the shore with the people they love. The king looked at his guards and nodded before they all cautiously swam towards the lagoon’s shore. There they saw the group of heroes with legs and putting on strange clothing.
“Father, here,” Y/N said as she handed him a pair of pants and a shirt.
“Thank you,” he said as he got dressed. He looked over to his guards and sighed. “Don’t just stand there. Get dressed and try and keep up.”
A chorus of ‘Yes, Your Highness’ resounded, and soon enough, the three lasting mermen were staring speechless at their own legs, trying and failing to get up and learn to walk before they were offered clothing to cover up. Even the King himself walked a little wobbly, leading to the four inexperienced mermen to have one arm draped over the shoulders of a partner to help them steady themselves as they got down the gist of walking.
Nereus was looking solemnly at his surroundings, taking in the cave that would’ve made everything so much easier if only he had known about its existence. A little flash of worry for the Kingdom coursed through him, but it went away as fast as it came, for he knew Sereia could be trusted, and the council was now back in motion and on the right track.
“Are we all ready?” Y/N asked as she looked at her father. She stood at the cave’s mouth leading towards the human world dressed in a lovely flowy dress and sandals.
“I’m ready,” Dean breathed as he nervously looked at her father before looking back at her, “I take it we’re going to Ellen’s?”
Y/N nodded, excitement beginning to pour out of her by the second. “That’s probably where Bobby will be. And I would like my father to meet the woman who helped us so much during our stay here.”
“Couldn’t agree more, angelfish,” Dean chuckled, “Your Highness, will you be staying for dinner?”
The King stared at empty space for half a second before blinking and shrugging. “Most likely.”
“Sounds good,” Dean said with a smile. “I can show you my dwelling, and you can try steak.”
They led everyone across the beach and towards Ellen’s house. Y/N and Dean leading the way while Thasman and roan pulled up behind. Lifting her fist, she knocked on the door and waited for Ellen to answer.
The door opened, and said human barrelled herself into the closest person she could find, screaming in excitement. “You’re alive!”
“We are, but it was a close call,” Dean said as he waited for Ellen to finish hugging Y/N. “So what did you guys tell the garage?”
“That you had taken an unprompted trip to Austin. And they’ve been asking why you haven’t answered your phone in two days.”
“Shit,” Dean sighed as he ran his hand across his face, “Not sure how I’m going to explain not answering my phone,”  He walked into the house once Ellen let everyone in. “Guess I can say that it was an emergency, and I forgot my charger resulting in my phone dying?”
“Dean,” Y/N said softly as she placed her hand on his shoulder, “I’m sure everything will work out.” she gave him a smile and looked at Ellen, “There is someone I want you to meet, Ellen. This is my father, King Nereus of Sindarta.”
The human stopped short, finally taking a good look at Thasman, Roan, Thames, and the mermen leaning against them for support. She slowly turned to the merman Dean was helping and looked at Y/N. “Seriously?”
Y/N nodded, “Yes, this is my father.”
“Ms. Ellen,” the king said as he gave a soft bow, “Thank you for taking care of my daughter, nephew, and his betrothed. I have no way of repaying your kindness.”
“You don’t have to thank me, Your Highness. I jus’– It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“The pleasure is mine,” Nereus said as he smiled at Ellen. “Do you know where I could find a Bobby Singer?”
At that very moment, Bobby came from the back porch, not noticing that his son had come back with more than just Roan, Y/N, and Dean.
“Ellen, I tell you, you need to get a damn new car!” he huffed grumpily, “I don’t know how many times you want me to fix your carburetor.”
“Bobby, we have guests, again.”
“Ellen, don’t try to talk me out of telling you that you need a new car,” Bobby growled, only focusing on washing his hands and complaining to Ellen, “That damn truck is older than I am!”
“This is the human you forsook your family for?” Nereus asked as he looked at Thames, “Well, at least he isn’t drunk.”
Bobby turned around quickly, eyes wild and big as he saw how many people were in the house before shaking his hands nervously and putting them in his pockets. “I knew you guys would be just fine.”
Thasman gently pushed through and pulled Bobby into a hug, “I’m so glad to be back, Dad.”
“Did something happen?” Bobby said as he hugged Thasman back.
“We can talk about it later,” Thasman whispered, “But for now, this is my--”
“You?!” Bobby exclaimed, “You came to my house twenty-five years ago looking for Thames!”
“Well, you were the only lead I had to find my sister,” Nereus said as he crossed his arms over his chest, “but you were drunk and looked heartbroken, so I figured she wasn’t with you.”
“You are little Nereus?“ Bobby said, looking at the man who was slightly taller than him.
“I forgot Thames used to call me that,” the king said between a shudder and a smile. “I think you and I need to talk.”
Nereus placed his arm around Bobby’s shoulder and led him out to the back porch. Thames chewed on her lip nervously, only imagining what would happen between her brother and the father of her child. Both men came in after sharing a handshake. Y/N noticed it was awkward but nonetheless effective. Dean cleared his throat as he looked at Y/N.
“We should take your Dad over to my house for dinner,” Dean said as he caressed her cheek, “We can talk more there.”
“Okay,” She agreed. “What about the guards?”
Dean looked over at them and shrugged his shoulders, “They can come too if they want? Not sure if Thasman needs guards. I mean, he’s freakishly strong.”
Y/N turned to the guards and her father. “Is that okay with you?”
“It is perfectly fine sea star,” Nereus said before looking at Dean, “show us to your dwelling, please.”
Dean had to admit: The merman King looked very out of place sitting at his kitchen table watching him, and Y/N prepare dinner while three merguards who kept looking at everything like it might jump up and harm them sat in his living room. Cas had received Dean with a mix of shock and anger that Dean hadn’t seen since their first year after graduating college, demanding answers to tell him where Dean had been for two days unannounced. Luckily for everyone, he’d calmed down quickly when Dean introduced Y/N’s father and told him he’d finally been invited to visit Y/N’s home… which was, technically, not a complete lie if you think about it.
“Sea star,” he called, once Cas was out on the porch showing the guards the house. “If you’re staying here with this human, have you thought of precautions?”
“I will use Thames’ cuff and go swim every month to prevent drying up. Probably more, considering how close to the ocean we are.”
“What about human currency?”
“The garage got off to a good start, and we’re doing good so far,” Dean piped in. “Y/N has a job at the diner with Ellen, and we don’t make much, but we make enough.”
“What about Dean’s friends?”
“Working on it,” The human confirmed, looking back to the living room where Cas was trying to make conversation with the other mermen.
Nereus pursed his lips at that answer, clearly uncomfortable at the possibility of more humans knowing about the existence of mermaids. “What about visits?”
“What do you mean, Father?”
“I mean,” The King took a deep breath. “Would it be alright if I decided to visit you hereafter Thasman’s coronation?”
Y/N stopped cutting the tomatoes for the salad and sat next to her father at the kitchen table. She smiled softly at him and only smiled wider at feeling Dean’s hand land on her shoulder. She reached up to hold it back and looked at Nereus.
“I would love it if you visited,” She confirmed.
Nereus smiled wobbly at them before clearing his throat. “And will you come home every now and then as well?”
“Of course… would it be okay if Dean came with me?”
“Absolutely. As long as Dean doesn’t expose you, your aunt, or our existence to the human world.”
“Never, sir,” Dean swore.
“Good.”
=====================
After breakfast the following day, to which the guards and the King all marveled at the food before them, Dean and Y/N decided to show the king around the small town. They decided on starting at the garage. Of course, it wasn’t without the four mermen marveling at Dean’s metal beast.
“This is how humans can travel around quickly?” Nereus said as his fingers ghosted over the shiny metal car.
“Father,” Y/N said with a chuckle, “This is Dean’s car. He calls her Baby.”
“So these things have names?” Nereus asked as he tilted his head. “Do all cars have names?”
“No. Baby’s very special to me, is all,” Dean stated proudly, hand patting the top of the car affectionately.
“Ah, I see,” Nereus sighed as he nodded. “Well then, I suppose we will be using this beast to move around?”
“I promise you, father, it’s fun and exciting!” Y/N said as she opened the door for the three guards to slide in.
The guards seemed hesitant to climb in, but one small smile from the princess seemed to help ease them. Once they climbed in, Y/N opened the front passenger door and climbed in Nereus after her, with Dean sliding in on the driver’s side behind the wheel. When Dean turned the ignition, the mermen all gasped once the car roared to life.
“Poseidon’s fury!” the king exclaimed. “This beast sounds angry.”
“Your daughter said those exact words when she first got inside my car,” Dean chuckled. “It’s alright, Your Highness!” he assured. “That’s just Baby’s engine. She’s coming to life, and she does that every time.”
The king nodded as he tried to relax once Dean began to drive. The drive was filled with the music playing low as Y/N started pointing out the different areas of the town on their way to the garage.
“There is Ellen’s diner!” she exclaimed with a smile. “We can visit it after we show you the garage. Father, Ellen’s food is amazing! If you loved the food last night, you will absolutely love and enjoy the dinner food.”
The visit to the garage was not supposed to be something big, mainly because it was Dean’s workplace, and well, it would be kind of hard to drag around four strange men around while showing them everything and just going, oh, they’re Y/N’s friends, don’t worry!
No, Y/N was thinking more about showing her father the front desk and her aunt’s portrait. She didn’t want their presence to distract the other workers of the auto shop.
“Dean?” Benny said as he watched Dean walking in with Y/N and a group of men, “Where have you been? And who are these guys?”
“Uhm, Benny, this–” Dean put a hand on the King’s shoulder, who gave him a ‘did you just do that?’ look, prompting him to take back his hand, “is Y/N’s father. King Nereus of Sindarta. He brought along some guards for protection as well.”
Benny’s eyes widened at what Dean said, “You… is this why you were in Austin? You had to pick him up or use your grandfather’s connections or something?”
“Exactly. Y/N received a message, and next thing we knew, we were picking them up in Austin.”
Benny nodded and sighed, “I’m glad you’re safe, but you know you could have called.” Benny placed his arm around Dean moving him away from the group. “What about the fact that their Island wasn’t on the map?”
“That you have to ask google,” Dean shrugged. “They put in a code to keep the island hidden,” the lie flowed from his lips.
Benny, however, wasn’t completely buying it. “Okay. You alright, though? No funny business while you were gone?”
“Everything is good,” he smiled. “I promise. Besides, Thasman is going to rule. It turns out he’s Y/N’s cousin. Big family secrets came out, and there was a whole legal thing. It and it got sorted out,” Dean rambled.
“We’re going to need to have a guy’s night and talk about all of this,” Benny said as he raised an eyebrow at his friend. “Does that mean Y/N gets to stay?”
The fucking stupid dopey smile that made its way through his face (not like he could help it when it came to his girlfriend) was answer alone, but his friend’s question hit him like a ton of bricks as he realized: “Y/N gets to stay.”
“That’s good news, brotha,” Benny said as he placed a hand on Dean’s shoulder, “I take it you’re going to show his highness around the shop and the town before he goes?”
Dean kept the dopey smile on his face, “Yup. Gonna finish up with Al’s before he has to go.”
“You trying to charm him off his feet?” Benny teased.
“Mark my words, Benjamin: Al’s is the golden bow to Matagorda and after eating the pastries? Even I wouldn’t want to ever leave town.”
Benny let out a laugh, “Can’t disagree with that.” He walked over to the king and extended his hand, “It is a pleasure to meet you, Your Highness. I’m Benjamin Lafitte. I am the co-owner of the garage.”
“I suppose you are one of Dean’s friends?” The King smiled curiously as he shook the offered hand.
“I am one of his best friends,” Benny confirmed, “I’m sure you met Cas last night?”
Letting go of Benny’s hand, he looked at Y/N before answering, “Yes, I believe so. You have to forgive me, our… Island… doesn’t have cars. We are relatively small and can’t get to different locations quickly.”
“I’ve heard so, don’t worry.”
“Is my nephew here yet?” he asked, looking around for Thasman.
“He’s over at Singer’s house with Roan and the old man. Seems like they had some things to discuss.”
“Father,” Y/N said. “I am sorry for interrupting, but I want to show you something Dean made for me,” she looked at Benny. “It’s good to see you again Benny, thank you for allowing Dean to help us.”
“No problem, Cher. But I want my boy back tomorrow, please. Gonna go check on Andrea. She’d probably like to meet your father as well.”
“I will make sure he wakes up early and ready for a new day to start working,” Y/N said with a soft giggle. “I will be at the diner tomorrow, so it will be a busy day,” she added with a smile.
With that said, Dean and Y/N began showing the king around the garage. They were just about to show him the mermaid wall when the doors burst open.
“Ms. Braden, I told you,” Andrea’s voice growled at the brunette, “You cannot be here. You need to leave before I call the police.”
“Out of my way, secretary,” Lisa sneered.
“Over my dead body, gold digger,” Andrea spat. Benny stood behind her, looking as angry as she was.
Dean looked over and growled, “What is she doing here?” he let out a huff and turned to Y/N and her father. “I’m sorry, I’ll be right back.”
Dean made his way towards the two women and crossed his arms just as Benny came to join him.
Benny leaned in and sighed, “Does this woman know how to take no for an answer?”
“I don’t think she was ever taught to take no for an answer, Benny,” Dean said as his voice dripped with annoyance. “What can we do for you, Ms. Braden?” he looked at Lisa.
“I am here for my contract,” she stated with a smile.
“I’ve told you I am not signing anything, Braden.”
“It’s either you sign or your father ends up in jail for corruption and faulty car equipment,” she said as she pulled out a file.
“John never let a car go out with faulty equipment!” Benny growled. “I was plant manager, and he never approved a car that wasn’t up to standard!”
“That’s not what the media and the government is going to see when I give them these papers,” she said with a devilish smirk.
“Lisa, we both know that sooner or later it would come out to light that you falsified the evidence.” Dean sighed. “You have no leverage, no–”
“Will it?” she said with a tilt of her head. “Not with my father and Nick’s connections,” she pointed out. “And we both know the kind of pull Nick has. And with this, he can take your grandfather's company right out from under him.”
Dean pursed his lips at the response before turning to Benny. “Has John talked to the media yet?”
Benny shook his head, “Not that I know, brotha. But what she’s suggesting is far worse than exposing Adam.”
Dean knew that already. Still, one could only dream. He closed his eyes and steeled himself up. “Miss Braden, if you were so kind to follow me into my office, I’m sure we can come to an agreement on all of this.”
“Drop the diner girl and be with me and I can drop everything,” She said as she watched Y/N walk up to them.
He could barely contain a shudder in disgust at the request. “Whatever fantasy you’ve worked up for yourself is entirely different to the contract and the company, Lisa. My office, now. And we negotiate like actual business people.”
“Did you read the contract, sweetheart?” she laughed. “It’s in the contract. You dump diner girl, and you be with me, and everything will be square. Your grandfather’s company gets the engine, and I will let you keep this--” she sucked in air between her teeth, “dingy garage.”
“Silence!”
At that moment, King Nereus walked up to her and flashed his ring in her face, and smiled.
“I would be very careful with how you talk to my Daughter, Princess Y/N of Sindarta,” he said with a glare.
“Yeah, right.” She snapped back, crossing her arms and raising an eyebrow at the king.
The king placed his ring in her face showing the royal crest of Sindarta, “I do not lie. You are a despicable excuse for a human being. I hope they imprison you for the lies you are telling.”
"Ms. Braeden,” Dean said as he was tapping away at his phone and smiled, “He isn’t lying,” he turned his phone to show her the webpage he had found on Sindarta with the royal crest on it.
Lisa stared wide-eyed at the small screen, “No fucking way.”
“She’s the real deal,” Dean said with a smile. “And she has way better manners than you do. Plus, she appreciates hard work. It’s what the people of Sindarta love about her,” he laughed. “Y/N is everything you will never be.”
“You seriously believe this bitch and the delusional old man that they are royalty to some made-up place?” she let out a laugh and shook her head. “I knew you were dumb, Winchester. I just didn’t know how pathetic and gullible you actually are.”
“You believe what you want,” Dean said with a smile. “But I pick her over you every time.”
“Well,” she said and turned to Y/N, “we’ll see just how good she is when I make her face look like ground beef!” she growled and began to charge at the princess.
Before she could get close enough, the three men that had been standing behind the old man and Y/N had stepped in front of her, tall and menacing, growling in a language Lisa hadn’t heard in her life. Two of them had blades drawn, and Lisa found herself stepping back.
“Who are you guys? What language is that?” she looked at them and glared. “I guess you use your body to get these men to protect you. Nice Dean, told you she was a whore.”
Y/N opened her mouth to retort but was beaten by Dathan, who looked as angry as she was. “Call her that one more time,” He snarled.
“What are you gonna do?” Lisa sassed. “You touch me, and you’ll be in jail until you rot. She. Is. A. Whore,” she repeated with malice in her voice.
“Okay, everybody, calm down!” Dean shouted as he came in between the bitch and Dathan. “Lisa, shut the hell up, and fucking go to my office so we can talk about that goddamned contract. And you guys–” he turned to the King. “Nereus, tell them to fucking put away the knives!” Dean closed his eyes, realizing his tone, “I’m sorry, your Highness,” He said in a quieter tone, “Please have them put the daggers away. I will handle her,” he pointed to Lisa.
“Handle me?” she huffed, watching as the men reluctantly listened to him. “you couldn’t handle your own dick, Winchester. Now I see why that Cassie Robinson from your grandfather’s birthday dumped you by fucking another guy behind your back.”
“Agent’s,” A voice called from the front of the garage. “Arrest that woman. She is the daughter of Alphonse Braden, who is scamming people of their money and companies through a Ponzi scheme. His engine is faulty and has caused accidents all over the country.”
At that moment, John walked in, adjusting his suit as he walked in, followed by federal agents. Lisa looked around in a panic and shook her head as she looked at Dean.
“Honey, tell them,” she said sweetly to Dean. “I am not like my father.”
“Oh no, sweetheart, no. Gentlemen, she’s right: she is not like her father. She’s worse. And threatened to frame and falsify information to destroy my grandfather’s company. Please, go right ahead.”
“No!” she shrieked, “You can’t do this to me, Winchester! All for what? A crappy garage and a whore from a diner?”
The next thing Lisa knew, her head was jerking back as she got a punch in the face. When the dizziness caused by the blow went away, she looked up to find Y/N standing right in front of her with her fists still clenched.
“Now you can arrest her,” She mumbled, turning back to her father and guards.
The federal agents grabbed Lisa and placed her arms behind her back as they handcuffed her. Y/N walked over to Dean and caressed his cheek. For a moment, they stood in silence. Dean placed his forehead against hers and sighed in relief that Lisa was going away; far, far, away.
“Sorry to do this in your garage, son,” John said as he placed his hands in his pockets, “It took Mick and Toni a while to find all the dirt they could on Lisa and Nick along with dirt on her father and his schemes,” he explained and turned to see the four mermen who gawked at him. “I’m sorry, where are my manners,” he chuckled and walked up to Nereus, “My name is John Winchester. I’m Dean’s father.”
“Nereus. I’m Y/N’s father.”
John turned to Y/N, “yes, the famous Y/N. I haven’t been formally introduced to her, but she makes my son happy.”
“He makes her pretty happy as well.”
Dean looked at his father and down at Y/N and sighed, “Come here angelfish,” he said to her as he led her to stand in front of his father, “Y/N, this is my father John Winchester,” he said, “Dad, this is Y/N.”
“It’s nice to officially meet you, John,” She smiled.
“You know,” John said, “Mary would love to meet you. Maybe after this whole circus is over, we could come down and have dinner with the two of you?” he asked as he looked at Dean.
He nodded. “Maybe.”
“If you both excuse me, I should go with the agents. We need to make sure Lisa, her father, and Nick are put away for a long time,” he offered them a smile, “It was nice to meet you, Y/N, although I wish it was under better circumstances.” he offered her his hand and smiled when she shook it.
John left shortly after that, leaving the garage to go back to normal once Benny got everyone back to work. Y/N and Dean held each other for a minute before they turned to the four mermen.
“I believe there is something we wanted to show you,” Y/N said as she pulled Dean with her so that her father and the guards could follow.
Her father’s first reaction to the Mermaid Wall was awe at how beautiful it was. Then came the teary eyes once he realized his sister and daughter were the mermaids in the picture, then turned to Dean, asked if it had been his idea, then hugged him after listening to the human answer the question.
“I only added the painting of Y/N,” he clarified. “The picture of Thames was originally Bobby’s.”
“I owe Singer a visit, then.”
“Your Highness, you are always welcome to come and visit,” Dean said, “And Thasman has a place here in the garage to work when he needs to let out some steam.”
“I will hold you to it,” Nereus said as he looked around, “I know my daughter will be happy here.”
=====================
Once Nereus saw that Bobby was living in the same place, Dean and Y/N decided it was time to visit Al’s. The king and guards marveled at the pastries and sweets the human world had to offer. With a box full of pastries, they all made their way back to Ellen’s. She had offered to cook, so a trip to the diner was unnecessary. But once everyone had their fill of food and pastries, it was time for the king to go back.
“I will miss you, my seastar,” he said as they were in the cave, “stay safe.”
Y/N smiled wobbly before clutching Nereus into a hug and rested her head on his shoulder. “You too, Father.”
The king let go and turned to Dean, “I have your word you will keep her safe?”
“You have my word, Your Highness.”
Nereus nodded and turned to Thasman and Roan, who were saying their goodbyes. Thames stood by her brother, avoiding Bobby as their son was talking to him.
“He is taking too long,” Thames whispered as she watched her son hug the man she loves. “We must get back to the kingdom.”
“Aren’t you gonna say something to your human?”
She shook her head, “I already said my goodbyes last night.”
“Go to him. Nothing is stopping you now other than yourself.”
“He’s saying goodbye to his son,” she objected in a whisper.
Nereus was having none of it. With a roll of his eyes, he took his sister’s hand and, much to her dismay, led her towards Bobby and planted her right in front of him before apologizing and letting the human know he’d have Thasman back in a couple of minutes.
“I’m sorry,” Thames said as she smiled apologetically. “My brother is not good with the word no.”
“It’s alright,” Bobby chuckled. “I suppose you’ll be going with him and staying with Thasman to make sure he adjusts well?”
“Yes. And until the coronation has passed and Thasman’s wedding with Roan is ready…” she trailed off. “We’ll come back and do another ceremony on land. I’m sure Thasman mentioned that to you.”
“He did,” Bobby nodded as he rocked on his heels. “Thames, if you regret what happened last night--”
The princess blushed at the kiss they shared in his home. Moving a strand of hair behind her ear, she swallowed the lump in her throat. “I-- I’m not sure what there is between us, Robert,” she admitted. “I can’t abandon my home and my son, but--”
“Y/N’s staying here, and she’s not abandoning her father, don’t you agree?”
“Y/N and I are different,” she whispered. “Besides, what would you want with an old mermaid like me? I should go.”
Thames was about to turn when Nereus sighed and walked over, “You are as stubborn as your son,” he muttered. “Stay.”
“Nereus…” Thames sighed. “It will not work. Please let me pass.”
“No,” he said as he crossed his arms, “You lost your chance at love once, Thames, don’t throw it away when you have been given a second chance.”
“I’m not throwing anything away. I just– I’m not leaving Thasman to figure everything about being King by himself. And there’s a coronation and wedding to plan.”
“And you can visit to help,” Nereus said. “You need to rekindle your life with Bobby. I remember how happy he made you, sister, please, stay.”
“It’s okay,” Bobby huffed. “She doesn’t want a grump like me anyways. Guess last night was our goodbye.” He turned to look at his son, “you visit when you can, you hear me?”
“Dad,” Thasman whispered as he looked at his father, “Don’t give up. I know she loves you. She’s just a-- a-- a stingray like me,” he couldn’t help but chuckle.
By then, Nereus had taken Thames by her arm and moved her away from Bobby and Thasman. The two of them speaking in a slew of mermish that the human could not keep up with.
“Son,” Bobby sighed. “Sometimes, you gotta learn when to stop swimming against the current and just go with the flow.” He offered his son a smile. “You go and learn everything you need to rule that kingdom of yours. I’m so proud of you, boy,” he said, placing his hand on the back of Thasman’s neck, holding his tears at bay. “I couldn’t have asked for a better son. I love you. You hear me?”
Thasman nodded, smiling softly. “Yeah.”
“Robert,” Thames said as she cleared her throat and held out her hand, “Goodbye.”
The human cleared his throat as he shook the offered hand. “You will come back this time, right? At the very least tell me about our son’s wedding.”
Thames smiled softly, nodding. Her face made a pained expression before yanking Bobby’s hand and pulling the man in into a kiss. When they pulled away, tears were streaming down her face.
Dean, Y/N, and Bobby watched as Thasman, Roan, Thames, the guards, and the king all dove back into the lagoon to head home.

Of Monsters And Men V: Unexpected Arrivals
How do mermaids spend their time?
Typically, when she was under the surface, she’d waste her endless free time swimming through tall caves, reading for the billionth time the story of her kind’s creation carved onto their caves, how they made peace with humans, about the human world in general, really, learning more and more about the modern language and beliefs. She’d learned those by heart, could recite them in her sleep.
The human version of ‘books’ however was slightly different.
It felt strange to her how fragile they were. With a sharp movement, they were destroyed. She was so afraid to hold the thin paper she would barely touch it, but she loved it so much for a multitude of reasons. First off it was nowhere near as gigantic as the books she knew. Something about finishing and flipping page after page made her feel something indescribable as if with every page a tiny weight lifted off her shoulders, and the smell, oh the smell.
Safe to say she spent the following seven days consuming book upon book, getting lost in different worlds. She slept on the couch, read, ate with Dean, got a better hang of walking and spent late afternoons curled up on one end of the couch, learning the different tastes of foods of the human world and discovering the magic of that strange box called television.
She was so enamored by electricity –what, you just flip a switch and- woa!-, by the thousands of different foods that existed and the billions of different cooking methods, by the million different combinations of colors the sky changed into above the sea that didn’t all look blue and yellow, and by humans in general. But most of all she found herself getting increasingly enamored by one particular human.
Dean was beautiful and she found out that not all humans were. Sometimes she peeked over her book and got stuck on the moving muscles that flexed and bent when he reached for the thing on the shelf over the TV, watching long, thick fingers that had so gently and caringly tended to her wounds, stretch and wrap around said item to pull it down. She froze, mid-chewing, staring at the tiny fleck of sauce on the corner of his full lips and often gazed at him instead of the show he had on, focusing on the crease between his eyebrows and the way light reflected on his seaweed eyes.
Damn, his eyes.
She got lost in them more often than she’d like to admit. It was like looking at the sky, captivating and never enough.
Day by day, he warmed up to her. Talked to her a little more, asked questions like if she slept underwater and did they eat other fish or did they live in villages or packs like wolves?
There was one question, though, that remained the same. How did she end up on the shore?
The itch was getting more noticeable by the day but she had no clue as to how to get an answer. A hole sat in the center of her thoughts and stood there, waiting to be filled. Many questions remained fruitless. She had no memory of her family, no idea how she found herself with a new set of limbs and about fifteen different injuries on her body on the coast and about zero clues as to who put those three parallel gashes on her thigh. The only thing her mind brought up was a rushing feeling of panic and a need to escape.
She chose to stay away from it for now.
“My brother is flying down from California today.” Dean wipes his hands on the rag by the sink, resting against the counter and Y/n looks over her book.
“Sam, right?”  he nods. “I can’t wait to meet him.” She smiles gently and Dean’s shoulders loosen a little at the sight of it.
“I, uh,” he tosses the towel by the sink and rubs his thighs with his palms. “I kinda tried to tell him about the whole mermaid thing,” he hesitates. A prompt nod later he licks his lips. “He doesn’t really… believe me. Would you mind if…” he looks for the proper phrase but doesn’t want to offend her at the same time. The room grows silent as he tries to find a way to make sense. “You know what never mind-”
“You want me to show him?” His eyes dance between hers for a second or two before an apologetic smile makes its way to his face. “I have no shame in who I am, Dean,” She says straightening her back. “I had no problem telling you. I will do the same with your brother.” Her mind goes every which way trying to articulate her sentences the best way possible. Dean’s smile is wide and grateful as he nods.
“Thank you.” He says simply. He doesn’t have to thank her; she’d do anything to keep that smile on his face. She nods.
True enough, a couple hours later there’s a knock on the door.
Dean runs to the door and opens it wide and it’s then that Y/n realizes that she could never make him smile as brightly as his younger brother can.
Before any words can be spoken, the eldest Winchester pulls his sibling down in his arms, a small ‘oomph’ falling from Sam’s lips. They’re hidden from Y/n’s sight because of the door and as much as she hates to admit it, she wants to jump around eagerly out of impatience. If someone can make Dean’s eyes light up like that she has to meet them.
She stands up and off the couch.
“Welcome home.”  She hears the huff of a laugh before she sees him, broad and tall, taller than Dean, with almost shoulder-length hair and a pointy nose. Sam Winchester, with a sunshine-bright smile and legs longer than the couch, walks in with a duffel in his hands and scans the space when his eyes fall on her.
“Uh, hi.” He says, the smile faltering before becoming more polite and reserved than natural. “I’m Sam.” He walks to her and offers a hand. She remembers Dean’s words, teaching her how to shake people’s hands and reaches for it.
“Y/n,” She smiles back and shakes it firmly. “It’s nice to meet you, finally.”
“Likewise,” her brain stutters for a second trying to remember exactly what that word means. She’s never heard anyone use it before and it takes her a moment, but she can guess give or take.
“Your, uhm, brother, he talks about you a lot.” She pulls back and awkwardly shrugs. He shakes his head.
“Yeah, he does that. All good things, I hope.” She nods.
Behind Sam, a young blonde walks in, Dean closing the door behind him. She’s smiling, looking at the house just like the younger of the two siblings was.
“Wow, Dean, you’ve improved this place so much since we last came.” Dean chuckles.
“Yeah, it’s almost done. I just have to finish a couple things in the garage and in the master bedroom. Otherwise, it’s as good as new.” He looks proudly around and Y/n quirks an eyebrow. She makes a mental note to ask about it later.
“Oh-, hi, I didn’t see you there,” the blonde says. She has blonde hair, blue eyes and white teeth, and there’s a small mole between her thin eyebrows. In comparison to the brothers, she looks so petite, much like Y/n. “I’m Jessica, Sam’s fiancé.”
Dean had not prepared her for that one. She has no idea, does she offer her a hand to shake? Does she hug her? Does she just stand there? Crap.
“Uh, I’m, uh, Y/n. Dean’s… friend, I guess.” That was the term, right? She’s beginning to panic, she wanted whoever was important to Dean to like her and that meant both Sam and Jessica, obviously. She ended up awkwardly shuffling her feet with a shy smile.
“It’s nice to meet you.” Jessica grins and slides under Sam’s giant arm, him pecking her temple.
“Alright kids, the pizza’s on her way. In the meantime,” All of them look at him. He nods towards the stairs. “We’ve got something to show you.”
She’s okay with who she is, sure, but had she known who Jessica was or that she’d be here, she would be a little more hesitant to agree. She feels her palms sweat and wants to run as far away and as fast as she can right now but she can’t fail Dean. She refuses to do so. Not when everything has been going so damn well.
Climbing the stairs a little slower than normal, she reaches the top, everyone hot on her heels.
“You two, wait here.” Dean commands and grabs y/n’s wrist. “C’mon, sweetheart.” He nods for her to get in the bathroom. Sam and Jessica share a confused look.
When Y/n is safely inside, Dean closes the door. He turns to her and notices the way she bites her lip and shuffles her feet when she sees the already full tub.
“You can still back out of this, I won’t think any less of you.” He says, green eyes forcing hers to stare at him. Yes, but you will be disappointed, she thinks to herself and that’s all the motivation she needs. She shakes her head.
“It’s okay.” She says and starts pealing layers of Dean’s clothes off of her.
“Woa, okay.” He’ll never get used to how easily she can stand naked in front of people. Never the less he turns around, showing some respect and letting her get in the tub safely. He can hear the rustle of clothes as they fall on the floor and the sloshing of water as she gets in. His heartbeat starts gaining some speed.
“I’m going in.” She says and he hears more sloshing before there’s silence and then the sound of water falling out of the tub in liters makes him turn around.
And there she is.
The tail is too big to fit in the tub so it rests again the plain white wall, in hues of iridescent colors that change in different angles and lighting and he, once again, cannot stop staring. It’s big, one and a half times the length of her legs, foils moving with every breath and almost shivering in the bathroom air.  Y/n’s head is under the water, eyes closed and there are gills under her jaw, on her arms and sides. Her hair is fiery orange and he catches the black change from the ends of her hairs.
“Guys,” He calls out but stays put. In his own tone of voice, he can hear it. He’s captivated, unmoving and simply cannot stop staring. The door opens painfully slow.
“Holy shit,”

Tumblr media
“Look, all I'm saying is if you'd let me drive for this ti-”
“Get back to research, Sammy, I've got enough things on my head. Don't need you to make me more dizzy than I already am.” Dean grumbled before his brother could even get to finish his sentence.
“Which is exactly my point here.” Sam couldn't help but huff “Do you really think it's a good idea to drive while being so dizzy? I mean, for the love of, Dean, you nearly drowned three to four hours ago! Unless you're trying to finish the ghost's job right now, I was thinking that maybe, just maybe, letting me drive would give both of us higher chances of getting out of the car alive.”
“Bold of you to assume that if I let you drive, you'd get out of this car alive.” the older Winchester retorted with a half smile, that didn't feel even half as real though, before focusing as much as he could on the road before him “Besides, I've been more than nearly killed plenty of times and despite the trip to the other side, I was always the one to drive the car. I'm fine, just like every other time, Sammy. Only impatient to get some food. Again nothing new.”
“And that's supposed to calm me down now, or what? Honestly, Dean-” Sam huffed, shaking his head “I can't understand you sometimes. It was pure luck that you even found yourself out of there, alive. I mean, if the fall from that kind of cliff didn't do it then the water would have certainly been it and you know it.”
“But again it wasn't. Neither of the two did it for me as you can see, tough as it might have been. Unless, of course, your ranting is looking to be a serious contestant in that?”
“I assure you, me and my ranting are not trying to bore you to death. It's the last thing I want. But that doesn't mean I am not going to talk about it. Seriously Dean-” another shake of his head that this time earned an eye roll from the older Winchester “You could have drowned so easily and yet somehow you found your way to the shore, which let me point out is absolutely not normal. Not in the kind of situation you were in. Not unless there was some kind of help coming from very deep within that part of the water which is even more disturbing to think about. Maybe in equal measures to you not admitting that you being safe and sound on the shore within minutes from the spot you fell is suspicious. What if the ghost isn't the only supernatural creature here to begin with? What if we have to look more into other beings like...”
Sam kept going. Dean was sure of it. Not because he was listening closely, not because he was paying attention to every word and pondering over it because he had to admit that he hadn't made it out of the water on his own. There was no way he would have made it out alive on his own, that much he knew and could understand just like every other sane human being would easily would. That didn't mean it was because that's what he was currently wondering about. Not when there was little wondering to do about it, no. Both because he didn't have the mind to and also because... well, for the same reason as to why he couldn't listen to his brother at the moment. The images running through his mind.
Yes, he was sure Sam was talking to him but only because of the murmuring he could hear, which sounded more like a distant echo. And it was exactly because of those images which he couldn't shake off, he could never forget, that everything else around him sounded and looked distant and blurry. As if he wasn't part of the scenery, as if he wasn't living in it, but was actually more immersed in another world.
And truth be told, he was in a way. He was too focused in his memories, in the images, in the feelings that were still as vivid as they were a couple hours ago when he really felt them that he was almost reliving the moment. Even if part of that world, part of those feelings and moment were also just as distant and blurry as the present.
Dean was struggling, his entire body was struggling, his lungs were struggling, every cell and every inch of him, struggling to hold onto life. He wanted to hold onto the air in his lungs desperately so but as even more of it left and he couldn't find new one, his actions became more frantic and panicked than his thoughts. The fact that he had not been able to prepare for any of it had not helped to give him a head start of any kind, making it easier and faster for his vision to get blurry and filled with dark spots as the air and therefore fight left his body.
It was only when his mind had started feeling like it didn't care anymore, like there was no reason for fight and like maybe, just maybe, sleep would be a good choice. It wouldn't hurt anymore and he wouldn't have to struggle too hard, even if he really didn't get the chance to wake up ever again. His mind was in such a haze that all reason and will had left, perhaps even his perception of reality too. Because in his haze as he looked up he saw the blur of something that shouldn't have been there not only because he was all alone and sinking but also because it looked like something that shouldn't exist.
Then again, as he thought of it now in the car, he found about the existence of many things that shouldn't exist. Killed plenty of them too.
And yet none like this. It was no surprise that he kept it to himself, that he still wondered if it was all real in the first place. The flash of a shimmering white tail, not one of a shark or a dolphin, a fish could have been accurate if it wasn't for its shape and the colors that it reflected, sparkling under the minimal sun that could reach such depth almost holographic, extending long - almost endless in his eyes at that moment - brushing past his arms and legs, it was all still there in his mind. Vivid and clear as much as it had been that moment, which wasn't to say a lot, but he still could not shake off the feeling of arms wrapping around his body. Real hands, belonging to a human, touched his face. A small shake, he was sure there was that, but not only was his head a mess his eyes were also nearly closed and what sight he had was blurry. It didn't last long, Dean was surprised to even remember it, before a pair of arms wrapped around his torso and it was in that moment he felt the pull only followed seconds later by water moving past him at a speed that is by no means normal, but is certainly enough for Dean to close his eyes shut completely. The dizziness it offered mixing with his already hazy mind, led easily enough to him losing both track and sight of what was happening; and he was fairly sure his consciousness too.
He felt like he was coming in and out of consciousness far too many times for anything to make sense. There was no telling apart reality from hallucination to even dreams.
The feeling of being dragged into the shore was something like a ghost feeling in the back of his mind, arms around his torso dragging him and struggling to pull him out of the sea, sounds of struggling and an effort beyond the person's strength – because obviously the lack of water and presence of drenched clothes that only became heavier this way along with the sticking sand made it all much harder to move. Similar to that was the feeling of a pair of hands, human-like, far too human-like and that somehow set Dean on edge, that pressed on his chest, pushing with all the strength the person could master. And certainly similar to the feeling of hands on his face, the touch much more clear than when he was underwater, though still under a veil of haziness in his minds.
All of those moments, though, despite how blurry they seemed, despite how hard it was for him to figure out if they were real, he knew there was one that he couldn't have dreamed of; that it had to be real. The feeling of lips pressing on his cheek, chaste and feather-like and very hesitant much like the way a forehead rested against his; all shortly after he felt the water pour out of his lips – out of his lungs – like there was no ends. But there was, and in the end he could finally get the precious and much-needed oxygen his body was craving for. He was probably – certainly – still very dizzy and his vision had plenty of black spots but there was no mistaking the sigh of relief he heard, human-like so human-like, and a hand cupping his cheek.
“What could you possibly be doing there you idiot?” the voice was low, sounding very much English and very much human “If only you knew how lucky you were.” a small laugh, and it was probably the sweetest sound he'd ever heard, one he would never forget, he should never forget and he knew he'd hate himself if ever forgot “Lucky idiot. Hm seems fitting, since I can't get a name out of you. Who knows what-”
He could not remember more words being uttered, not from that soft and caring voice. He only remembered someone, someone that sounded a lot like Sam and was most likely him though his dizzy brain couldn't even put that together, call out his name in the far distance before came the sound of hasty rustling and water splashing. It was in those hasty few seconds that he got something he wished he could hold onto forever: His eyes slid open, just slightly so, catching sight of a face, your face.
Admittedly he had felt all air leave his lungs for the second time in that moment, and when your eyes met his and he noticed you pause for a half second, he couldn't stop himself from reaching out to touch you to make sure you were real. Or at least try to, because he didn't have the strength to get more than halfway there. Fact which he regretted later because he couldn't tell if you really had been a fragment of his imagination, what if the face he saw was only in his mind – hard as it would be for him to even dream and therefore make up such a sight.
A sight that combined with the very much mermaid-like, he could only now tell that he was driving and had sobered up, tail vanishing below the surface of the water had been keeping him on edge. Too much for it all to just have been a fragment of his own imagination. Not because it sounded and looked too crazy, nothing could with the kind of life he had, but because he didn't want it to be just him. He wanted it to be real even if he didn't know where he would ever get to see that face, feel those gentle and caring hands that had pulled him to his safety (if he was right about all of it) and hear that compassionate if not clearly teasing voice that revealed a real spark and personality underneath that he could easily adore.
Wait- Adore?
“That's it. That's the caf- Wait- Aren't you gonna stop he- Dean? Dean? Dean!” Sam nearly yelled to get his brother's attention, thankfully making the older Winchester press on the breaks and make the car come to a halt. The younger Winchester could only thank their lucky stars that the road was empty at the moment.
“Huh? Wh-what?” Dean blinked in surprise, as if finally having been brought back to reality.
“Alright, that's it.” Sam huffed stubbornly “We go in there, get something to eat and then you give me the keys and I'm keeping them for the next three days for sure. And I won't hear a single thing from you. We're lucky to be both alive at the moment. Got it?”
He did not leave any room for argument as he stormed out of the car and made his way to the cafe they were originally heading to. Dean, in all honesty, couldn't be more glad for it. It had been anything but silent in his head all this time, he could use a couple seconds of not thinking and not talking to put himself together because at the end of the day he had work to do as well.
Or at least that was what he kept telling himself, repeating the words over and over again like a mantra, to the point he almost believed it. To the point he believed that he had gotten you off his mind, to the point he believed he was getting over everything and to the point that he had convinced himself he was focused on the job and there would be no further distractions. Or at least so he thought until he pushed the cafe's door open and before he could take more than one step inside, felt something – or rather someone – collide with him.
He looked down, lips parted and ready to retort, only for the words to die out in his lips and every though to drown in the sea of disbelief and surprise that took over his entire being. Once more all air had left his lungs and yet the struggle for air had never been as painfully sweet as now.
“Well, look at that...” your voice was soft just like the smile that formed on your lips as your eyes locked with his and Dean still had trouble wrapping his mind around the fact that you were there, right in front of him; before you added in a low voice “It's the lucky idiot.”

To the Waves
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Square Filled: Mermaid AU Ship:  Dean x Reader Rating : General A/N: This is some straight up tooth rotting fluff with minor pining angst.  Also getting a little unusual with out type of mermaid here so bear with me. Warnings: nope Summary: You meet a beautiful stranger on the beach, but he has a huge secret.  Will that keep you from loving him? Word Count: 2,551 Created for @spnaubingo.
Inspired by this song
“Do you come here often?”  the green-eyed stranger asked as he stood over you.
“What the fuck!?”  You cried as you threw an arm over your bare breasts and rolled onto your stomach.  “What are you doing here?”  You asked thinking that you had been alone.
“I’m here all the time, this is basically my beach,”  He said sitting down and holding a leather suit or coat over his shoulder.  It looked so odd like something a jock with a letterman jacket would do.
“I’ve never seen anyone else here, what are you like a surfer or something?”  You asked reaching out for a towel that was out of reach.
“Yeah, something like that.  I’ve seen you before,”  He chuckled as he simply sat there and watched.
“And you never said anything?!”  You lifted up indignantly then flopped face-first back into the sand as you realized you had exposed yourself again.
“You want some help?”  He asked as he reached over and grabbed your towel for you.  “I’m Dean by the way.”
“Thanks,”  You replied as you covered yourself and gave your name.
“Hey, so I feel pretty bad about this whole thing,”  He rubbed his hand over the back of his head awkwardly.  “Do you wanna get a bite to eat?  I know this little place up the coast.  It a pretty short walk.”
“You want to have lunch with me?”  You asked staring at him.  For the first time, you found yourself stunned by how beautiful he was.  Green eyes, freckles, and beautiful skin.
“Is that strange?”  He asked.  You were to confused by why he would want to be with you to notice the concern in his voice.  No one ever wanted to go with you anywhere.  You had found yourself awkward in most normal situations, and that seemed to come across to men.
“Um, it’s nothing.  Let me get my shirt on?”  You asked standing and wrapping the towel around you.  To your surprise, Dean didn’t don his coat, simply carried it as he walked.  You were quite surprised by how close the restaurant was to were you had been.  The food was nice, and Dean’s company was very pleasant.  You had a lot in common, which was surprising considering how detached from society you thought of yourself.  He had a younger brother and someone like an uncle that was more like a father.  The relationship didn’t seem to matter too much, more that he was loved by Dean.
Every answer from Dean brought you back to the same conclusion, however.  He was lying about something important.
“Alright, tell me straight.  Are you married?”  You asked as a lull of conversation started, figuring the answer had to be something huge like that.  What else would be the point in hiding it?
“What?”  He asked totally confused by your question.
“Look, you’re amazing, we obviously have a lot in common.  You’re gorgeous beyond all thought, but you’re hiding something.  So are you married?”  You asked again.
“No, I’m not married.  In fact, my dad would probably be pissed if he ever found out I was here,”  Dean seemed to drift into thought.  “You’re right though, I am hiding something.  I just… I just can’t tell you what it is.  Maybe if we were closer I could tell you.  But it’s nothing like another person,”  Dean seemed so sincere it hurt you to want to know the truth about him.  You couldn’t imagine a life where you couldn’t tell your lover everything about yourself or not expect that in return.
“Well listen, Dean.  Lunch was great, but I really can’t be with someone whose not in it, one hundred percent,”  You said solemnly.
“No, you’re right,”  Dean seemed to hurt from something, and looked down at his plate.  “I shouldn’t have asked you to lunch.  Um, this was really nice and maybe I’ll see you again.”
He stood and left the table instantly, leaving you with your mouth gaping.  He hadn’t even paid for his meal.  You put cash down on the table and left the eatery to go home.  You lived with your father and grandfather, helping to take care of the older man.
“Hey, you were gone a while, everything okay?”  He asked looking at your tired look.
“Yeah, it’s been weird,”  You said before getting a bottle of water.
“Wanna talk about it?”  He asked taking a seat.
“How did you know you loved mom?”  You asked sitting with him and looking out at the water.  Your dad chuckled sadly.
“I’m not really sure.  She just had this way about her.  I got swept up in it.”  He said finally.
“Did you love her?”  You asked realizing what he was saying for the first time in your life.  Your father had barely known your mother.
“Where is all this coming from?”  He asked looking at you.
“Nothing, I met someone today, and he was really great but he has a secret something big, I could tell.  And he couldn’t tell me what it was.  I just don’t think I could be with someone who doesn’t give me all of himself,”  You said taking a drink.
“Maybe their secret is very important to them, but not to a relationship.  So it’s something they don’t share until they are sure they are in it with someone,”  Your father’s suggestion made you blink and you looked over at him.
“Was mom that way?”  You asked.
“I don’t know,”  He answered.  “All I know was there was an important part of her that I could never share.  But I don’t know what it was.”
“If you were in my shoes what would you do?”  You asked him hoping for any advice.  Dean had been on your mind the entire way home and you didn’t want to imagine your life if you hadn’t at least tried to see how things would go with him.
“I think you are all the proof of which choice I would make,”  Your father said as he stood up and kissed you on the top of your head.
The next morning you went back to the same place Dean had met you and you sat there waiting.  You waited and waited for a long time, but eventually, it paid off.
“I thought you didn’t want to see me again,”  Dean’s voice called quietly.
“I was wrong,”  You said turning to look at him.  He was wet like he had just come out of the water.  The suit he had with him yesterday hanging over his shoulder again.  “I want to know you.  All of you that you will let me see.  If that means knowing you with your big secret then I’ll take it.”
“I was really hoping that would be your answer,”  Dean said as he walked over and brought his lips to yours.  He even tasted like the ocean.
The weeks past in a whirlwind of over the top emotions and become months.  Dean was amazing, though apparently not very creative.  He seemed to spend most of his time at the beach and the two of you never went anywhere where you were standing on or near the sand.  It was kinda cute but kept your dates pretty consistent.  The two of you were becoming very close, everything seemed to fit perfectly.
Then he didn’t show up.  He wasn’t at your normal meet up location and you had no way of contacting him other than seeing him there or leaving him a note.  It continued on, day after day that he didn’t show up.  It had all been too good to be true.  You went into your room and hid for nearly three days.  Hunger finally drove you out of your grief and you decided to go to the diner that Dean had taken you too.
“I’m sorry,”  Dean said as he stood at your table.  You looked at him unable to believe your eyes.  He was here, and alright.
“Dean?”  You asked staring at him.  “I thought you were hurt, or… or something.  That you left me.”
“I know and I can’t make up for what happened.  But, please I didn’t want to leave you,”  He said his green eyes pleading.
“Are you a spy? Or in witness protection or something?”  You asked as he sat down across from you.  “You don’t have a phone, you always meet me in the same place, you go missing for a week then mysteriously show back up.  What is going on?”
“I need to tell you my secret,”  He said reaching out and taking your hands.  “I’m not a spy or in witness protection.  I’m not even human.”
“What?” You asked laughing in disbelief.  “What do you mean-”
“I’m a selkie.  A seal-kin.”  Dean said quietly as he looked into your eyes.
“Are you- are you serious?”  You asked him after realizing he was joking around.  “You go missing for a week and you come back with some fairy tale?”
“Please, it’s the truth.  My father didn’t want me to come up here, on land.   It’s not safe.  I thought Bobby would help me, but my dad found out anyway.  He forbid me from coming back, from seeing you.  But-  But I love you,”  He said finally as he squeezed your hands.
“You love me?”  You asked.  Sharp spears of anger pierced your heart.  He claimed to love you but was lying to your face.  You couldn’t stay here another minute.  You let go of his hands and stormed out of the diner as Dean called your name.
“Hey, watch it,” Your grandfather said as you plowed into your home and almost ran into him.
“I’m sorry, GranDa,”  You said, helping him to his chair.
“What was your rush little one?”  He asked tracing your cheek gently.
“I thought I knew someone and I was wrong,”  You said bitterly.
“It’s impossible to know someone other than yourself, and even that is hard,”  He said.  He always had cryptic yet insightful things to say when you needed to hear them the most.
“He disappeared then had the nerve to lie to me.  He told me he was something straight out of a fairy tale,”  You bit your lip to keep from crying.
“Fairy tales have to have a starting point.  Are you sure he was lying?”  Your grandfather said.  You knew your grandfather’s heritage and he had always been one to hold onto childhood stories.
“GranDa, he said he was a selkie,”  You said sniffling.  Your grandfather stared at you.  The first time in years his eyes had been as clear as they were.  “What?”  You asked.
“A seal-kin?”  He asked.
“GranDa please, don’t tell me you think they are real,”  You whined.
“I know their real,”  He said quietly.
“What?”  You stopped almost unable to breathe.
“My father lived in Scotland, near the Orkney Isles.  He married a woman of low birth, who had no family and no money to speak of.  But she was the most beautiful creature that anyone in his town had seen.  She would never speak of her family or her home to anyone.  And my father never left the Orkney coast,”  He finished quietly.
“So you think your mother was a seal-kin?”  you asked in disbelief.  You knew your grandfather was getting old, but you had never thought of him as senile.
“Your mother too.  I assume your father never told you their story,”  He said fishing.
“He told me it was a whirlwind.  I always thought she didn’t want me.  You think she left because she had to go back to the sea?”  You asked looking out the window to the water that your father refused to move away from.
“I have one last thing,”  He said standing up.  “Do you like this man?”  He asked as you helped him to his room.
“He said he loved me,”  You echoed Dean’s words.  If he had been telling the truth that he loved you and that he was a selkie could you have hurt him?  The thought hurt you more than you expected.
“Love is fickle, like the sea,”  He said as he rummaged around in his chest.  My mother had this, and my father gave it to me after she died.  I never really knew why.
Your grandfather handed you a silky soft brown wetsuit.  At least that’s what it resembled.  Some parts weren’t right.  But with an unnerving gasp, you realized it looked like the jacket that Dean always had but never wore.
“My father said if my mother had ever known about her skin she probably would have left us, drawn to the sea no matter how much she loved us.”  Tears fell down your face as you looked at the seal skin your grandfather had produced.
“He was telling the truth,”  you whispered.
“If you love him, it’s not too late,”  your grandfather said, lifting your chin so you would look at him.  “The legends all say that the wearer of a seal skin could become a Selkie.  You man may not be able to live here, the men of that kind can’t leave the sea,”  all the dates with Dean on the beach hit you like a sucker punch.  “But you could go with him.”
Your eyes widened at your grandfather’s words.  You could leave your family and go to the sea with Dean.  It felt sudden.  But you knew this was the only chance you would get if you were to live with him.  And you knew in your heart that you had fallen in love with him.
“Will you tell Dad?”  you asked.  “Do you think he will understand?”
“He still loves your mother and she left him for the sea.  I think he will understand,” your grandfather said kissing your cheek.  “Hurry before the sun goes down.”
You ran out of the house with the sealskin to the diner where you had left Dean.
“You just missed him,”  The waitress said when she saw you.  You darted out of the building and down to where you had met Dean.
“DEAN!”  You cried as you rushed to the waves.  “Dean!”  Were you too late?  Had he left without you after you had rebuked his claims?
“I’m here, what are you doing?”  He asked taking in your desperate look.
“I’m sorry,”  You cried as you flung your arms around him.  “I believe you and I’m sorry.  You tried to tell me the truth and I wouldn’t believe you,”  You kissed him deeply.
“I shouldn’t have sprung it on you.  You couldn’t be expected to believe,”  He finally saw the coat in your hand.  “Where did you get that?”
“It was my great grandmother’s,”  You said showing it to him.  “It’s like yours, right?  My GranDa says if I wear it, I could go with you.  If you wanted me to come with you,”  You said the last part doubtfully.  You had rushed here without thinking about him not wanting you anymore.
“I love you,”  Dean said holding your arms.
“I love you too,”  You said without hesitating.
“Come away with me,”  He said kissing you again.  He pulled his coat on and showed you how to pull it over yourself and the two of you walked out into the waves.

Dream for a Mermaid
Summary: When she struggles under the weight of a lost goal, will her heart start buying the lies her head is spitting out? Or will she let her family speak the truth she needs to hear? Characters: Dean Winchester, Sam Winchester, Castiel, and a precious friend Warnings: discussions of anxiety & depression, so very much fluff Word count: 1600-ish
A/N: This is for my precious friend, @pinknerdpanda . Always listen to your heart, sweetie. And when your head starts lying, listen to me! Xoxo
Tumblr media
The air in the Impala hung like a wet blanket. All she wanted was to get in her room and hide. Under-the-blankets hide. Under-the-bed hide. Dig-a-hole-in-the-world hide. Every time she saw Dean stretch his neck to the left at the kink there, every time Sam absently rubbed at his relocated shoulder, or Cas shifted gingerly around the remnants of his slashed ribs, the guilt squeezed her throat and burned her eyes. While Bob Dylan crooned out “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door”, only one note thrummed through her.
Failed. Failed. Failed.
The tunnel into the bunker’s garage filled her with a dizzying mess of relief and panic, her system overloaded from the last three hours. When the driver’s door creaked and Dean groaned his customary back popping, she arrowed herself out of the car and hurtled towards safety.
She didn’t see her boys staring after her before turning to each other. No explanation needed. They’d all lived it, too.
Failed. Failed. Failed.
Ammonia wrapped around her in a fog. Familiar, bracing, she let it fill her head as she militantly painted. Color came and went under her hands as she sloughed off a new vision and pulled the comforting customary into its place. Grief dripped free in ribbons of salty soot. The tap on the door went unnoticed, swamped beneath the cacophony in her mind.
Failed. Failed. Failed.
“Hey.”
Color slopped astray when she jumped at the voice. Her eyes snapped to the mirror, fixing studiously on the man behind her and not her own reflection. The reply she gave was all croak and no fooling to a Winchester.
“So...blue hair again?” Sam queried, offering her a hesitant smile.
She cleared her throat of the guilt before slapping out the truth.
“Well, brown hair is for blending in. You know, for real hunters.”
The bowl and brush slammed into the sink, blue showering wet and shiny onto the white porcelain as she ripped her gloves off. Her chin trembled as her chest clutched hard, and the need for air churned with the nausea in her belly, anxiety spiking sharp and cold along her body. She squeezed her eyes shut, blocking Sam out because she didn’t deserve his understanding. This was her problem.
Failed. Failed. Failed.
“What happened wasn’t your fault.”
A croaking, choking sound broke from her as her head sagged down.
“Are you kidding me? How was it not my fault? You were there, Sam! It was a complete shit show!”
“Hunts go sideways all the time! How many times have you bandaged us up because it didn’t go the way we planned?”
She scoffed, swiping at her dripping grey tears.
“You guys are wired for that crap, Sam. It’s practically in your DNA. Have Cas check!” she snarked. “I trained for days for this. Days! The shooting and sparring with Dean, the research stuff with you, what-kills-what quizzes with Cas, and hours, frickin’ hours of what-iffing enough scenarios to fill a book. And for what? Nothing!”
The juggernaut of grief ripped free, shoving her anxiety up into her heart, throat, and head hard enough that her vision swam, pressing her down, down until the weight became too much as she wobbled to the tiled floor. Sobs, all the more painful as she tried to choke them back, filled the sudden silence like an uneven fall of breaking glass - sharp, hitching, hurting.
Slow, steady, Sam stepped close and sat. Near enough to reassure, far enough to not crowd.
“I just wanted -” Stopped as she dove her face into her drawn up knees.
“What?” The gentleness of his question squeezed more tears free.
“I just wanted it... to work. I thought being a hunter was what I wanted. All I wanted. And I just wanted it to work so bad. Why didn’t it work, Sam? Why couldn’t I make it work? Why?”
Sam’s chest vised hard and painful at the pure heartbreak on her face. He scooted himself closer, long fingered hands resting on her shins.
“Hey. Hey, hey, hey,” he husked to her. “Listen to me.” Sam waited until she raised her gaze to his. “Now, you listen to me, alright? You did not fail.” His hands squeezed her legs for silence when she rolled her eyes to protest. “You didn’t. Hunting in the field...it’s fourteen kinds of crazy. And yeah, not gonna lie - the adrenaline rush in the moment? Wow. The feeling that gets me here,” he rubs one hand over his heart, “when we do save someone? Or put a tormented soul to rest? Knowing we made one little piece of this messed up planet better? There’s no feeling in the world like it.
“You didn’t fail. If you truly feel like being out in the trenches isn’t for you, that’s not failure. That’s courage! You know how many people keep clawing after something that isn’t for them? And they’re miserable. I know it hurts right now, and I’m so sorry you’re hurting. But, think about it. Having the guts to say ‘no’ to one dream, as awful as it feels in the moment, puts you on a path to a new one. And you?” Sam let all his admiration and care for her shine in his warm smile. “You are freaking amazing. And you’re going to do amazing things. Just..be gentle with yourself. And remember - we’re here for you. Whatever you decide to do.”
She let his words wash over her. Let their truth sink into her and loosen the stranglehold panic still scrabbling at her throat. A deep breath pulled in, and she nodded weakly, still heavy under everything. Ready to try and put some of it down.
Sam’s smile widened as he watched her nod, watched her body soften just a touch.
“Besides, I like your blue hair better, anyway.”
She snorted at that, swiping a wet blue strand out of her face and wiping the smudge of color left behind on her pants.
“So, did you draw the short straw for this deeply emotional encounter?”
A true laugh coughed from her scratchy throat as Sam’s eyebrows did a comical up-and-down dance.
“What? No! Just...no!”
A gentle tap on the door, and Dean poked his head in the bathroom.
“Hey, short straw. You finish telling her how kickass she is? And that Cas is currently stuck in the ice cream aisle at the store, trying to figure out if there’s any dangerous bits of porcelain in her favorite Ben and Jerry’s ‘Kitchen Sink’ ice cream?”
Chuckles bubbled up as Sam leveled his bitch face at Dean while the older man stepped over to help her to her feet.
“You’re bringing the mermaid hair back? Awesome! You gonna put any purple in with it this time? That look on you was my favorite!”
She let herself have the hug Dean pulled her in for, smiling tiredly.
“I don’t have the stuff for purple. But I’ve got enough to give you some blue.”
When Sam laughed at that, Dean scoffed at him.
“Bitch, please. I could rock me some blue hair.” Draping a companionable arm around her shoulders, he rubbed his hand on his chin as he pondered. “For Sammy, I’m thinking green. Bring out his eyes.”
Sam rolled those eyes hard enough to see inside his skull, and she shooed the brothers out so she could concentrate on her timer and color. For the moment, grief had let go. She wasn’t ready to think about new dreams yet, but in this instance, setting down this one didn’t sting as badly.
***********************************************
3 days later
“C’mon, girl, it’s movie night!” came Dean’s voice down the hall. She yanked her favorite hoodie over her head, grabbing her pillow as she sailed out the door.
“I’m coming, I’m coming, keep your shirt on, Winchester,” she hollered back. Quick steps navigated to the Dean Cave, heart light as she welcomed the R&R with her family. Dean had even agreed to let her pick the movie. Turning the corner into the room, she stopped short, and burst into hysterical laughter.
Dean had aqua blue and teal strands glistening in his dark hair. Sam smiled, chagrined, when she took in the shamrock green throughout his own strands. And Cas, dear sweet Cas, looked preciously confused about the hot pink tufts poking up out of his fluffy tresses.
The look of delighted pride on Dean’s face, coupled with Sam’s resigned grin and Cas’ adorable but supportive bewilderment, had her leaning on the back of the couch as hilarity pealed from her in waves.
“Now we can be as awesome as you with our hair! Bring it in, mermaid.” Dean pulled her into one of his famous bear hugs as Sam tucked her pillow into her preferred spot on the couch. Cas proudly offered her a pint of ice cream and a spoon.
“I’ve thoroughly checked this for porcelain and nickel traces, it’s contaminant free from any kitchen sink particles.”
It was a sheer force of will that kept her from laughing right in his face as she snuggled into her spot.
It was never easy letting go of something so deeply desired. A part of her would always hurt at the loss, would always cry out ‘what if’. But today? Today she let her heart tell her the truth. Today, she knew she was loved, and she knew tomorrow was another chance.
Another chance to find a new dream.

Eventually two O’clock rolled around. Dean still nowhere in sight. I spent the whole afternoon pacing in the hotel room, Sam watching from the corner of his eyes as he tapped away on his laptop.
“Ready to go?” He stood up and pulled on his suit jacket.
I sighed, realizing that I wasn’t going to be able to apologize to Dean before the meeting, “Yeah, let me find something nice to wear.” I walked over to the duffel bag and shifted through the men’s clothes.
I pulled out a white dress shirt and holding it up, I caught a whiff of the heady, whiskey, woody smell that was oh so familiar. Dean.
Closing my eyes, I inhaled deeply before ducking into the bathroom and slipping it on along with a pair of Dean’s jeans.
Walking out with Sam, I watched as he locked up the room and slid into the driver’s seat of Baby.
“Do you think he is okay? He’s been gone all day.” I couldn’t help but voice my worries. If I Knew the show Dean as well as I thought I did, he would be at a bar right now, getting shitfaced and flirting with anything with breasts.
Sam seemed to know which way my thoughts were drifting as he gripped my shoulder, his hand big enough to crush my head. A weak smile on his face, “He’ll be okay. He just needs to think things through. And he won’t blame you.”
I frowned, “But he should. I said some hurtful things,” I held up a finger to Sam as he opened his mouth to argue, keeping my eyes on the windshield, watching the town fly by, “and I know you said I should choose happiness for now, but I can’t turn off my brain. And it’s headache inducing trying to keep the two lives separate. Sometimes I wonder if I should just give in to this reality me and forget about the other one.”
The rumble of Baby cut off as Sam pulled into the parking lot of City hall, where various rusty trucks and mini Suvs were parked as well.
Before I could reach for the door handle, Sam spoke up, his voice soft and low, the tone of voice that I knew as him being sincere and hoping for a heart to heart.
“[Y/n]....I don’t think it’s a choice of choosing which one you want to be. I think it’s the choice of choosing to live in the moment. Who says the two realities of yourself are so different in their wants and desires? SUre, their pasts are different, but their future...your future, is right in front of you, right now, and you’re letting it slip away from you. Think on that.”
I sat, stunned, frozen, as Sam slowly unfolded himself from Baby’s driver’s seat. Shaking my head, I got out of the car and walked up to where Sam stood waiting before the doors.
Entering Ocean Shores City Hall, we found it to be quiet. The soft smell of seawater and mold tickled my nose. As we followed the signs to the meeting room, the low murmur of conversation grew louder.
Standing before a wide set of double doors near the back of the building, me and Sam stood for a minute to listen.
“The police are helpless, and they think we’re crazy!”
“Well, Donna, who wouldn’t. You went in their raving about mermaids and shouting that they were stupid! You ruined our chance at stopping more deaths.”
“Yeah right Carl, like you had a better plan.”
“Why don’t we ask Serena? After all, it’s her clan that is doing the killing.”
At that, Sam shot me a determined look.
Nodding back at him, we opened the doors and walked inside.
The room was white and empty, aside from a circle of metal chairs were five people sat, all staring at us in varying degrees of surprise and suspicion.
A big burly man with a wide, bright red handlebar mustache stood up and rested his hands on his wide hips, glaring at the pair of us, “And who might you two be? You ain’t from around here.” His tone was layered with distrust and his face was weathered and bore the look of extreme distrust.
A homely older woman with gray curly hair stood up and swatted the man on the back, “Oh you shush Carl!” Turning to us, she widened her smile and her hazy blue eyes sparkled, “We always welcome newcomers to the Mermaid Club! I’m Donna! The founder!”
Despite his girth, Carl seemed properly chastised by the grandmotherly elder, his countenance fading to chagrin. He took of his baseball cap and rubbed his balding head, “Sorry about that. Always been suspicious of strangers.”
I could feel that my mouth was open, watching the proceedings with something akin to disbelief and awe.
Luckily, Sam had experience, so he stepped up during my minor shock.
Sticking out a hand to Carl, and then to Donna, he gave an easy going grin, “Hello, I’m Charles Zeppelin and this is my Sister, Sarah Zeppelin. We’re moving in to town and saw your meeting flyer. Sarah here,” At this he placed a hand on my lower back and pushed me forward, jump starting my self-preservation as I smiled at Donna and shyly took her warm hand, “Swears she saw a mermaid last night by Pacific Beach and wanted to come to the meeting.” Sam let a slightly derisive laugh slip in, “Of course, I had to indulge her. Even though There’s no such thing.”
Carl glared at Sam while Donna gasped and whirled onto me, eyes wide with awe and wonder, “You saw a mermaid?”
I nodded, still play acting the shy younger sister.
Donna tugged my hand, pulling me into the circle where the other members still sat, watching the previous introductions.
She spun around, pointing out everyone, “The goth teenager,”
The fishnet, black eyeliner, bedhead teen glared through her bangs and hissed, “It’s Emo.”
“Is Emma. The Hippie looking blonde young man is Zack, and this here,” Donna dragged me to stand in front of a metal chair where a young woman, with shocking silver hair and porcelain skin sat, milky white eyes seeming to look through me, “Is Serena, our resident Mermaid.”
At this, Serena spoke, and my eyes widened as her voice flowed towards me. It was like windchimes, melodious, and soft and seemed to wrap around and trap me in it, “Could you describe what you saw?”
I shot a look over my shoulder to where Sam was stopped from entering the circle by a defensive Carl. He nodded at me, saying that it was okay, before he redirected his stare to Serena. I could see his hesitancy to believe Donna’s claim that the woman before me was a mermaid, she looked nothing like the thing we had seen last night.
I kept my voice meek as I described what I had seen, “There were big ripples in the water and then this blue person popped their head from the water. Their eyes were black as night and they had no hair. Their mouth was full of razor sharp teeth and they…” I stuttered for a moment, “They spoke to me.” I finished in a whisper, dropping my gaze to the dirty tan tiled floor.
A gasp from everyone, even Carl had turned around, taking his attention off Sam, while I told my encounter.
Serena stayed perfectly still and then she slowly raised a single hand. “What did they say?”
The words rolled off my tongue without my permission, “It’s not over.”
A musical sigh, Milky White eyes closing slowly as she breathed out. I took a moment and saw that her teeth seemed a little sharper than normal, but not as sharp as the creatures from last night.
“You have had an encounter with my Kin.”
A silence flooded the room. Stifling as if everyone held their breath waiting for Serena’s next words.
“You have no chance. If they have their sights on you, if they have shown themselves to you, you will die by their hands within the fortnight. Dragged to a watery grave where they will consume your flesh and laugh at your strangled cries for help.”
“Bullshit!” Sam’s angry, very loud exclamation startled me so badly, I yelped and fell to the ground, Donna’s hand slipping from mine as gravity took ahold.
Sam stormed up to where Serena sat, her white eyes open once again, settling in the direction of where Sam was.
He jabbed a finger at her, “How do you know? Why don’t you look like them and how are you walking around?”
Carl grunted as he moved to where Sam stood and barked at him, “Now! You listen here young man, you can’t just accuse-”
Serena interrupted him, “He is right to be cautious. After all, you are a hunter, are you not? Sam Winchester..”
I held my breath as I watched the blood drain from Sam’s face, a split second before he had the demon knife in hand and pressed up against Serena’s throat.
The group members screamed. The hippie Zack, running from the room. Donna leaping back and hanging off of Carl’s girthy frame, while Emma stared at the scene and smirked while whispering, “Finally something fun.”
A snarl ripped out of Sam, the sound so terrifying I forgot for a moment that it wasn’t targeted at me.
“How do you know who I am?”
Serena didn’t even flinch, her eyes staring through Sam, her creamy flesh pulsing against the knife as she breathed evenly, “I made a deal with a demon when I was still a younglin. I didn’t want to terrorize people. I wanted to walk amongst them and feel the love that my clan often spoke so callously about. They gave me legs and hair and skin to blend in, but they took away my sight. So that I could never see the beauty of Mankind. I heard about your kind from my Clan, and then when I was on land, I heard whispers as I wandered. Sam and Dean Winchester, the boy who lived and the demon boy king.”
She slowly rotated her head back to me, the blade that Sam held against her neck wavered as he took in her words.
“And [Y/n] [Y/l/n]...a ghost.”
I gathered my strength, and ignoring the excited whispers from the strange little emo teen and the frantic whispers from Donna dn Carl, I stepped forward and asked, “How do we kill them?”
Serena smiled, but it was not a pleasant smile, “Why?”
I cocked my head to the side in confusion, “What do you mean, ‘Why?’. They’re killing people! More people will die if we don’t stop them!”
Serena took in my passionate words, but then she spoke and shocked me again, I was starting to get irritated at her seemingly pleasant personality and her condescending attitude, “That is his reason,” She tilted her head to where Sam still stood bearing down on her with a frown, “But why do you care so much? What are you running from that has you so desperate to get away from this place?”
“I-I...wh-what? I-I..” My eyes flickered over to Sam, who wore a similar shocked expression.
I took a step backwards...and then another. And then I turned and ran.
“[Y/n]!” I heard Sam shout out in concern as the doors slammed shut behind me.

Silver Lining Pt 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dean & Sam discovers that {Y/N} is a mermaid, but Dean confronts her.
Imagine: Sadness & Fluff
Word Count: 1,116
Dean and Sam decided since there was no hunt that they would take {Y/N} to a Lake hidden near their bunker, {Y/N} got out of the Impala but she sat on the back.
“ I can’t believe they did this. Especially Dean, he will be getting punished for this.” {Y/N} said to herself, she was the girlfriend of the infamous Dean Winchester, she came across the Winchester Brothers in 2006 after a werewolf hunt went slightly wrong.
“ Amazing view.” Dean said as he smiled, both he and Sam watched as the waves in the Lake moved calmly, but Dean sees {Y/N} crossing her arms, turning her back on the brothers, her skin rippled as she heard the water calling her, but she growled lowly.
“ Oh come on, {Y/N}, why won’t you enjoy the view with us?” Dean asked his hunter friend, he liked her, but he didn’t know what she was hiding, she would always steer clear of water when she was in motels or at the bunker, she would always lock the door to the showers.
“ I told you that I don’t like water.” She replied, her head stuck up, Sam just smiled at her response, he watched as Dean smirked, what was his brother planning, it worried him, but he watched as Dean went behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist, she stiffened but relaxed as Dean placed his head on her shoulder, but she lets a small purr erupt from her throat, Dean loved it when she did that, but he knew that she was hiding something.
“ Baby?” He asked her, she wasn’t letting up, he then picked her up, she stiffens up, Dean carried her close to the deck, she wiggled and tried to get out of his grip.
“ Dean, let me go!” She exclaimed as she glared at him, he smirked at her, he thought about it then dropped her in, Sam runs over as Dean see bubbles coming up as {Y/N} went under the Lakes water.
“ Is that supposed to happen?” Sam asked as Dean’s eyes watched the water, {Y/N} never came up, Dean was getting worried by the second, but she did surface, but her clothes were gone, she stared at Sam and Dean, her long {H/C} hair blocked her chest from being exposed, Dean and Sam see that she doesn’t have legs, but a tail, a blue scaled tail with fins across the rear and sides.
“ {Y/N}?” Dean asked as he was surprised, she was crying, she shakes her head and dives, leaving the brothers, mostly Dean surprised, his girlfriend is a mermaid?
“ Dean? {Y/N} is a….” Sam questioned his older brother, but Dean was in a slight trance, he kind of understood why she didn’t tell him.
“ Sam, I’ll worry about it.” Dean said as Sam watched his brother, Dean, sit down on the dock, Sam just goes back to the car and gets inside, Dean on the other hand sits at the dock, waiting for his girlfriend to come and explain all this to him.
“ Please come back, {Y/N}, I love you.” Dean whispered, but unknown to him, {Y/N} was hiding under the deck, she quietly dove down and went to the bottom of the lake, she found a rock and laid on it, her fins moving about to the current, crystals lighting up the bottom of the lake, but the surface couldn’t see it.
Tumblr media
“ I thought I could hide it.” {Y/N} said as she felt salty tears fall, but the water carried them away, she sees her necklace upon her neck glowing, the crystal that Dean had gotten her, she remembered what he said when he gave it to her.
Tumblr media
“ For you.” Dean said as he smiled to her.
Tumblr media
“For me?” showed her a box, {Y/N} smiled at it, she opened it and it revealed the precious material he had found in the bunker.
“ Dean. It’s too much.” She exclaimed as it glowed, but he smiled, he takes it out of the box and places it upon her neck.
“ The bunker notes say it is an amulet that protects you from harm.” Dean explained as the necklace glowed, {Y/N} smiled before kissing her lover.
“ I have to face him.” {Y/N} said, she moves her tail and swims up to the surface, her {H/C} hair covering her chest, she sees Dean, his emerald eyes find hers, she swims slowly to him, her tail leaving small waves behind her, when she reaches the deck, Dean is staring down upon her, he sees her {E/C} eyes watching him.
“ Why didn’t you tell me?” Dean asked as she lifted herself up, she has her upper body on the dock and next to Dean, half her tail is in the water.
“ I was afraid.” {Y/N} said as she turned her head to him.
“ You were afraid I was going to hunt you, weren’t you?” He asked her, she nodded, some tears escaping her eyes, he lifted his hand and wiped the tears away, she lifted the rest of herself up and sat her scaly butt down on the deck and sat next to him.
“ So you’re a mermaid?” He asked her, she smiled at his question, she turned to him, her wet {H/C} hair still covering her chest.
“ Yes, Dean, I was born like this.” {Y/N} replied to his question, he smiled at her, the tail’s end making small waves as it flipped about the water.
“ So when you get wet, you lose your clothes?” Dean asked as she smiled.
“ They vanish like magic, they return when I’m dry.” {Y/N} explained, he smiled at her reply.
“ Hey {Y/N}?” He asked, getting her attention, her {E/C} eyes staring into his own, his smiled to her as he held her cheek.
“ Let me be clear, you never and I mean never hide anything from me.” Dean told her, she smiled at him, he leaned in and kissed her, she pressed back, they pulled back as {Y/N}’s blue tail turned back into her legs and her clothes came back, she was dried, the two got up.
“ Could we come back and swim?” Dean asked as she smiled, she places her arms around his neck.
“ Yes Dean we can.” {Y/N} replied as he smiled to her.
“ Like Elvis said , “ The truth is like the sun, You can shut it out for a time, but it ain't goin' away.” “ Dean told her, he took her hand.
“ I guess this really is a Silver Lining.” {Y/N} said as they went to the Impala.

Of Monsters And Men IV:  Lean on Me
When Dean walks back through the door of his house, Y/n has managed to stack the dirty plates tidily by the sink and has moved herself to the couch where she is now napping. A small pit of guilt forms in the bottom of his stomach for making her stand and walk with legs she’s never used before, alone, but it quickly diminishes as he thinks back on his day.
The walk he’d taken calmed him down a little. He’d rolled his pants legs and walked along the shore, dipped his feet in the water, holding his shoes in his hands. Eventually, he’d stopped walking, a good five hundred feet away from his beloved house. He’d turned to look up at it, the rays of sun tracing its familiar outline, briefly recalling how long it had taken to save up for it and rebuilt it. He’d scrunched his toes in the damp sand, feeling the softness of the retreating tide and taking a deep breath, his thoughts going a million miles a second.
Now mermaids are real? Jesus Christ, what a mess. A whole new world, a species only he knew about. The amount of responsibility that had now fallen on his shoulders was massive, too big to handle alone, but he had no idea who to turn to.
He found himself trying to decide if the girl in his house just that, a girl. Were mermaids human? Were they animals? Well, that depended on what how you’d define the word human- No and no. He is not going there.
The idea of her being a monster didn’t even cross his mind.
What did mermaids even eat? She ate her cheeseburger earlier, liked it, too. He supposed some part of her had to be human. How was he supposed to house her? Did she even know how the human world works? It’d be like raising a child. Would she ever go back to her home? The sea? He felt stupid just thinking about this absurd concept.
He’d sat down on a rock, a few feet ways from the shore, and gazed distantly at the horizon, watching the last hues of apricot and bubble-gum pink fade slowly. He’d watched the waves come and go with a peaceful force that died away quickly but smoothly, the familiar, salty fragrance of the ocean putting him instantly at ease. This was safe, familiar, the ocean. Or so he had thought.
Shit, how was he supposed to handle this?
He patted his pockets, finding his smartphone in his front pocket. Dialing the one number he’d never forget, he sat with his feet planted on the ground and his elbow rested on his knees, phone pressed to his ear.
“Hey,” Sam’s voice was almost a whisper.
“Heya, Sammy.” He sighed.
“It didn’t go well, did it?” Yeah, how could the younger Winchester have known when he’d told his brother to just talk to her and not make any assumptions?
“Well, I didn’t have to talk to her.” Dean remarks sarcastically, shoulders sagging and toes curling around a pebble.
“What do you mean?”
Dean explained exactly what had happened. From the second he walked in the house to finding a giant fish in his damn tub, having to take her out of the water and watch the gigantic, colorful, stunning tail transform into legs and her fiery hair turn back to the raven black that he was familiar with, the second air reached her lungs.
“Dean?”
“Yeah?”
“Are you drunk? Or stoned? Or both?”
“I wish.”
Sam promised to come down to visit and meet this mysterious girl –“Mermaid I’m telling you. Not a girl, a friggin’ mermaid.” “Okay, sure. Mermaid. Whatever”- as soon as possible.
So Dean decided it was time to go back.
And there she is, curled up on his couch, again.
What has he gotten himself into? Christ.
He’d dressed her into one of his old, burgundy Henleys that Jessica had bought him and damn did it look good on her. She was beautiful with long, coal colored hair that fell into smooth waves, much like the ocean under the moon.
He didn’t sleep that night.
He spent hours tossing and turning under his covers, tried calming his rapidly beating heart, tried catching even twenty minutes of shut-eye. But he didn’t, his brain a mess of cluttered thoughts.
Giving up, he climbed out of bed and walked down the hall. Raising his eyes, he meets her form and halts.
She’s standing up, or at least trying to. He can hear her soft grunts and huffs as she clutches the arm of the couch, but he makes no move to go help. She takes three really fast breaths before she thrusts herself up to her full height. Arms waving around almost comically, she wobbles and curses under her breath before she steadies.
Smooth legs bare, only in a bandage that’s covering her left thigh, his shirt covering her butt and swallowing her whole and he finds himself short in breath.
She turns slowly and hesitantly tries to take a first step, hand gripping the arm of the couch tightly. Her knee almost buckles and she leans on the couch that’s a little too short for her.
It hits him just then that maybe he’s being a little selfish. Hell, she was dumped in a world she knows nothing about, injured, clueless and scared. She’d had her first encounter with a human, gotten new limbs and on top of everything she has this asshole person yelling at her for all of it, as if he was the victim.
He isn’t.
And yet through all of it, here she is. Fighting.
Dean Winchester, speechless, makes his decision and appears in her field of vision. She stifles a gasp of surprise. He walks around the couch, approaching her very slowly, as if to not scare her. He offers his hand and she looks at it, scared that he’ll lash out again and it sends a spark of guilt through him. A small reassuring smile tugs the corners of his lips. Her eyes examine his expression, then his hand and then his eyes, and before he knows it, she’s giving him the brightest, kindest, most grateful smile he’s ever seen.
She takes his hand and it feels like the world just comfortably slid into place.
He steps closer to her, forearm under hers so she can use him as a crutch, fingers lacing.
“C’mon,” he breathes, voice a low rumble. “Lean on me.”
She takes her first step.

The fisherman
Sam X reader
Summary: Mermaid AU
Warnings: None really gonna be full on Disney romance XD
Ever since you were little the sea was your home the ocean life everything it was your home. Your father the great king of the sea your mother the passionate queen your two sisters Delilah and Grace. You weren’t human though but a myth that humans believe mermaids. Your tail a shimmery red and orange colour like your fathers, your sisters had blue and purple like your mothers. People though spread rumours now your kind are endangered people say you are savages dragging men to their death then eating them you would never do such a thing but now that’s all people think. You were often curious of the land what people did how they walked but you couldn’t go to the surface it was to dangerous. But tonight, you snuck out swimming to the rocky pool and sticking your head up out of the ocean breathing in the air. The moon shimmered down on the water as you smiled to yourself watching the beach you saw a lone fisherman sitting on the dock his feet dangling off the edge his hat slumped forward as he waited. You knew you shouldn’t, but you swam over there he was falling asleep you glanced up at him his handsome face shining in the moonlight his brown hair falling down his face he was the most beautiful you had ever seen but he stirred, and you went back under the water admiring there.
“SAM” Someone called, and he perked up his name.
“COMING” He called his voice like an angel as his tall figure got up and walked away leaving you in a trance. You saw him another time sitting on the dock his fishing rod in the water which you didn’t agree it, but you tricked him, and he finally gave up making you giggle quietly he heard though making his head snap to the sound, but he shook his head sighing. The next time he wasn’t there, and your face turned sad but then you saw him out on a boat rowing out to sea you followed underneath you swam around him till night fell and a storm picked up his small boat rocked back and forth as he tried to go back to shore but he capsized as the boat hit his head before he began to sink. You rushed to grab him pulling him to surface he fell limp though as you began to panic you swam to the nearest rock pool and left him on the rocks trying to wake him. He finally stirred after the storm passed as he groaned in pain he jumped though seeing you.
“What? Who are you?” He asked, and you smiled.
“My name is Y/n” You said, and he frowned looking down into the water seeing your tail.
“You’re a mermaid” he said horrified as you swam back a bit your smile fading.
“Yes” You said as he grabbed a knife from his pocket.
“What do you want from me?” He asked, and you were taken aback the knife scaring you.
“I don’t mean harm I saved you” You said going backwards till your back hit the rocks.
“You did something to me?” He asked nervous you shook your head.
“No, I didn’t I saved you” You said swimming forward as he thrusted the knife forward.
“Back demon!” He cried as your face fell as you sunk into the water.
“I guess all humans are the same” You said sadly when suddenly he threw the knife into your tail as you cried swimming away quickly a trail of your blood only to be seen. You cried in pain reaching for the knife pulling it out throwing it away. You swam home your parents immensely worried as they attended to your injury as you cried telling them what happened.
Sam finally got home safe to his brother he didn’t mean to throw the knife seeing your frightened face made him think you didn’t have sharp teeth or claws, you were beautiful. He punched himself mentally he scared you worse he injured you he was such an idiot.
“Sammy what are you beating yourself up about now I’m not mad just glad your ok” His brother Dean said walking into the lounge room leaning against the door frame.
“A mermaid Dean I saw one she had a red and orange tail she saved me I wouldn’t be alive if it wasn’t for her and I threw a knife at her!” He said his hands flying around Dean frowned.
“You threw a knife at her?” Dean questioned, and he nodded.
“Her face was so frightened I can’t get it out of my head” He sighed rubbing his face he felt horrible.
“Don’t worry to much Sammy she’ll be fine I’m sure” Dean said walking back into the kitchen.
“Yeah” He said quietly sighing.
You sat on a rock sighing you wish to never see a human ever again. Your family went out to the sea celebrating your mothers birthday you all went to the surface swimming around having fun when suddenly a net caught you all. You screamed in terror trying to find your little sister, but you couldn’t reach them in time. The nets came off you as they murdered your family you shivered as your tail turned to legs and they frowned as they knocked you out. Waking up you were in some sort of box you bashed against the walls, but it was no use you began to move, and you were dropped some where making you groan in pain the stab wound on your leg not healed yet. The box opened, and a man peered down a sinister grin on his face as he waved his hand to something. You were moved again before you were put in a small tank filled with water your tail returning he stared in awe snickering to himself as he walked away leaving you cold and alone. You don’t know how long you were in here your body was weak you needed food something anything. The curtains finally opened but this time you were in front of hundreds of humans gasping you stared in shock trying to move to escape, but you couldn’t.
“EVERYONE GATHER AROUND” The old man called.
“WE HAVE CAUGHT THIS BEAST” He yelled, and you frowned beast?
“’WATCH HER SAVAGERY TAKE OVER” He cried as he threw in a fish you were starving as you grabbed it eating it whole everyone looking at you in horror. You stopped no this wasn’t you this wasn’t like any of your kind.
“NO please I’m not a beast” You yelled as something electrocuted you making you sink back down.
Sam walked past the crowd of people wondering what it was when he saw you scared and helpless hearing you speak those words he saw the cut he made on your tail as they shocked you back down as you passed out. He ran straight home telling Dean everything who still needed convincing. The next time you came out you were pale sick Dean couldn’t believe his eyes neither could Sam they did this to you.
“HEY” He finally spoke up everyone turning to him as your eyes opened seeing him your face turning scared.
“Stop this your killing her!” He yelled walking forward to the stage as you frowned weakly he was helping?
“This creature is not a beast she is kind she saved my life” Sam said as the old man scoffed.
“She needs to go home she’s dying” Sam begged but it was no use as the man shouldered him off taking you back to the dark. You sank again to the bottom he tried to help why?
