I didnt grow up eating rice, bc my mom didnt care for it. I grew up as a pasta kid. Now as an adult i am a rice adult. I am a moist protien with rice for dinner kind of adult!
Big fan of 'goop on rice.' Universal delicacy.
We're trying to mix up our starches so we don't get bored.
We love a good potato. Put stew over a mashed potato. Classic.
Been enjoying couscous. Pretty much anything that goes on rice can go on couscous.
Rice, obviously, but I learned a recipe where you soak saffron in white wine, then mix that in with chicken stock instead of water. Really good!
Today we had Rice noodles in miso and it was a tasty!
Pastas of course, but it can't just be spaghetti. The shapes of tge pasta are important. I really like orzo these days.
Cornmeal mash is great with chili over top.
I found a recipe in that Asian cookbook that's basically corn mixed with mashed potatoes, breaded and fried and omg...fuckin delish.
Bread, but like... a good crusty bread like sourdough or an enriched dough like challah. Or Naan or pitas. Love a good dippin bread.
Freaking love carbs. I will not listen to any slander against them.

I had left a stick of butter and an egg at room temp for chocchip cookies, then lost craving...
so I hit up the cookbook library shelf and found two different recipes that sound delicious RIGHTNOW, one that used the egg and one that used the butter and now we have cookie abundance, muahahahaha!
starchies (corn starch based rather than flour based, the steam from a hot one is like the lacroix of cornbread)

and classic peanut butter cookies

both from Baking Yesteryear (B. Dylan Hollis), both easy-to-whip-up-three-ingredient recipes, both delish.

I made your soup recipe and now all food tastes like ash. I made your cake recipe (even though the concept of vegetables in cake sounds gross), and I don't think I'll be able to eat another cake ever again. HOW DO YOU GET YOUR RECIPES AND CAN I JUST LIVE IN YOUR HOUSE AND EAT?
Hahaha! This made me smile, and it's been a really rough afternoon, so this is like extra extra loved!
I'm so glad you tried the recipes and liked them!!!
The chicken and dumplings one came to me... kind of roundabout. My Uncle (who is also a big cook in the family) found it through the recipe magazine/website Delish, modified it, gave it to me, and I made a few more changes.
The carrot cake used to be on the Betty Crocker website. I found it when I was looking for new recipes and it had 5 stars with over 5,000 reviews. They pulled it off their website not long after (I'm guessing they put it in a cookbook), but luckily I had written it down!
While we have old family recipes and I will modify recipes until I like what it tastes like, most of my cooking is done by smell, so I don't have a ton of recipes to share lol
But yes, I love cooking for other people!
Oh! and Pro Tip for baking! I get my vanilla here. It's worth the price, and it makes a world of difference!!!
#ask#they used to have just a flat rate for shipping no matter what you got#so we'd get a gallon or get a bunch of the 1000 mL bottles#then they about doubled the price of everything and gave 'free' shipping#not sure what they're doing now with how stupid this tarrif stuff has been#we still have 2000 ml in the pantry

Do you have a specific recipe for the curry or was it a make up as you go along type of meal? looks delish
A bit of both. I had the name of the restaurant dish (adobong baka sa gata) and the description (smoked chuck roast stewed in coconut cream, vinegar, chili, fish sauce). So I looked up recipes for the dish and combined a couple different ones together.
The recipes I referenced were: here, here, here. I also referenced I AM A FILIPINO: AND THIS IS HOW WE COOK which is a fabulous cookbook.
However, I wasn't just trying to make the dish, I was trying to make this one restaurant's version of it. In the recipes I linked, the 3rd one is the closest in color to the restaurant curry, but the restaurant curry had very small, incredibly tender bits of beef, not big chunks. It was pale brown from the coconut cream and the primary taste was rich, nutty, slightly sweet coconut, with very little vinegar or spice taste.
The usual way of preparing this dish has you make beef adobo (stewing beef in vinegar and aromatics) and then add coconut cream to that mixture. But what the restaurant did is smoke the beef for 18 hours, then stew it in coconut cream with a little added vinegar and spice but not a lot.
So that is what I wanted to do.
What I ended up with was very close, but not perfect. Mine was more vinegary and spicy than the restaurant's. It was delicious but not exactly what I wanted.
Next time, I will 1. Use coconut cream instead of coconut milk, and 2. Not add any braise liquid to the curry unless I taste it and think it needs some. The meat was dripping in braise liquid so that probably would have been sufficient.
Anyway here's the recipe.
First, I made braised beef adobo like this:
INGREDIENTS
4-5 lbs chuck roast (doesn't have to be this much)
2 heads garlic, peeled
1 Tbsp black peppercorns
1 Tbsp bird's eye chili spice (didn't have fresh bird's eye chilis)
1 splash red wine (optional)
4 cups beef broth (I used beef bouillon)
3/4 cup white vinegar
1/3 cup fish sauce (I originally said 1/2 cup but it was probably less)
1/4 cup ish soy sauce
2-3 spoonfuls brown sugar
2 bay leaves
juice + zest 1 lime (optional, I just needed to use it up)
TO BRAISE
Pat dry chuck roast. Rub in kosher salt and dry-brine 1+ hours.
Sear chuck roast in oiled hot hot pan, 3 min on each side to brown. Set aside. (Not necessary but recommended).
Preheat oven to 300° F.
In a dutch oven, heat oil to shimmering. Add garlic cloves and fry 1 min until fragrant. Add black peppercorns and chili spice (careful don't breathe in, the chili spice fumes will get you lol). Stir fry 2-3 min until very fragrant.
Deglaze with a splash of red wine. Add beef broth, white vinegar, fish sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, bay leaves, lime juice and zest.
Bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally. Carefully add meat. Make sure meat is almost entirely covered with braise liquid (if it's not totally covered that's fine, it will cook down and fit better).
Put lid on dutch oven. Carefully transfer to oven. Braise 4-6 hours until fork tender.
TO MAKE CURRY
2 x 12 oz can coconut milk or cream (recommend cream)
reserved braise liquid, to taste
fish sauce, to taste
Once beef is done braising, remove from dutch oven. Reserve braise liquid.
Cut beef into tiny bits. Set aside.
In a wok or deep-bottomed pan, add coconut milk. Heat just until steaming. DO NOT let coconut milk rise above a simmer. The oils will separate. Do not let it boil.
Add beef. Cook, stirring occasionally, 30+ minutes until coconut curry sauce is slightly thickened.
Taste. If you want more vinegar-spice flavor, add some strained braise liquid and/or fish sauce (start low, like 1-2 Tbsp at a time). (The beef will be dripping in braise liquid and impart plenty on its own, so don't add until you have tasted).
Serve over rice.

This kingdom is full of unexpected ideas, as she would say in her imaginative head. Might be heavy-guarded soldiers, but there's another thing that this queen's trained guards will see more than what this thief is divergent from how they can see other ones in this kingdom. She just came back to the street, readying herself to cook up the new dishes thanks to her recipe book as she started to cook up the grand food serving for the royalty, humming as usual as she's been the free-spirited street merchant, but in confidence got her grand plan for setting up for the royal masquerade ball coming up as she placed it under her table to remember. It could be easier to say nothing about the plan to steal and disguise her as a lone larcenous beggar, but in her mind, it's going to be well planned.
Jack loves to cook up the very delish dishes as she always does and would like to have people's personal taste of luxuriousness; it's the work of art, as any painters would think as well. Every recipe counts in her little cookbook. After hours of getting work done for the masquerade ball, thanks to her alter ego's words, she began to work on the next step, getting the design for the royal masquerade ball, but what kind of outfit? This young busker walks down to the different street and finds a place for answers she could use in Royal Ball, the craft store she can certainly see through. Once she finds it with many choices, she makes a little smirk with plans coming up with little coincidence.
"Perfect!" She wears a cloak and has a type of masquerade mask she chooses, but also purchases it in case this plan needs to be quiet and settled if she wants to get these treasures from the queen's under nose. And maybe this royal mage she met.
So the grumpy homeless thief walks out of the kingdom and scowling at the royal mage over her impudence. She could try to walk away and never think of that place again... or not. She secretly smirks and pulls off her eyepatch and fake scars off from her left eye and fake disgusting tooth throws to the trash can near her, shows that being herself felt more relived being herself than being one who angry at everyone else coming into this kingdom without reason, it's her least favorite disguise. "Whew, it's sweating over there. Now," she have poster she secretly stole from the golden wall that palace have when she disguised as lone angry petty thief, "royal treasure room, here I come."

Kitchen Witch Inspo
Hello there!
Life can be, understandably, chaotic and wild at times. So I am here to share some of resources that I used for some meals! Witchy or not, I hope that some of you can find use from this list!
Online
Thaqueenofsauce - on Tiktok and Instagram! Her page is filled with Stardew Valley inspired meals, often filled with seasonal fruits and veggies.
Lizzieandthebats - on Instagram! While she does some general kitchen witchery, she also has many magical cocktail recipes to try.
Blackforger - on Instagram! Her energy is a delight, and she gives a lot of good information on forging. She also makes recipes with the items she forges!
ElvenFood - a Reddit filled with vegetarian and vegan recipes designed to look magical.
BudgetBites - A website that gives recipes that can be made on a budget
SortedFood - Part entertaining banter, and part helpful. A youtube channel dedicated to to bridge the gap between “normals” and chefs, while also showing unique ways to use the food that is already in the back of your pantry!
emmymade - Fun, chaotic, but also calm energy when it comes to this youtube channel. Emmy tries out a range of different foods and recipes, some better than others, and shows her process making them (This channel has a special place in my heart as well).
TastingHistory - An educational channel that talks about different recipes that were eaten throughout history. He jumps from multiple time periods, some of the recipes he recreates go as far back as Mesopotamia with other being as recent as WWII.
Cookbooks
Remember to look at your local library’s collection first! If they don’t have it and you’re willing to wait, they can order the book for your!
Small batch snacking cakes by Aimee Broussard - Exactly as it sounds like! Many recipes that make quick and yummy cakes.
Delish Kids by Joanna Saltz - Has a lot of recipes designed for kids, but it is very useful to add nutrition in different ways.
The Good Neighbor Cookbook by Sara Quessenberry and Suzanne Schlosberg - Not only a good book with quick and large amount of recipes, but it is also divided into life events! So if you want to bring a bit of hearth into a person's home then this book is great!
Cook As You Are by Ruby Tandoh - Not only does the art have a lot of diversity, this books is very friendly to each individual. Variations and substitutions are PART of the book, as well as include people with disabilities. It also includes a "note about eating" providing a safe space with those with eating disorders. This cookbook also suggests other cookbooks if you're interested in similar recipes.
Time to Eat: Delicious Meals for Busy Lives by Nadyia Hussain - Honestly a great resource to look through! There are a variety of recipes all intended to be made with the fact that life is just busy. I reccomend the pancake recipe!
As I look for new recipes during the year, I will update this post! Hope you find use from my recommendations!
