It's the laughter echoing through a theme park as you capture moments on a digital camera, knowing one day they’ll be memories you hold close. Because love lives in the little things—the quiet, fleeting moments that deserve to be protected and cherished.
Your love was Riki. You grew up together, side by side, sharing every chapter of your life. The day you won your first award, he was right there, cheering the loudest. When someone asked you out for the first time, he sized them up without hesitation—because only the best would be good enough. And whenever you got hurt, especially while trying to cook something, he already had a bandage in hand, knowing exactly how often your clumsiness got the better of you. Today, out of nowhere, he showed up at your door—flowers in one hand, a card in the other. “May I come in?” he asked, a soft smile tugging at his lips. It caught you off guard. He never needed to ask. Your home had always been his, just like his laughter lived in your walls, and your things were scattered in his apartment like they belonged there. The question felt almost foreign coming from him, as if something was shifting—something unspoken hanging in the space between you.
He set the flowers gently on the counter, then, without a word, dropped to one knee. Your breath caught in your throat, shock flooding your system as your eyes widened.
“Y/N,” he began, voice steady but full of something raw, “I know we’ve always been just friends. But I can’t keep pretending that’s all I feel. I love you—and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
He paused, searching your face. Your hand flew to your mouth, trembling as you tried to hold back the tears welling in your eyes. You looked like you might break—either from joy or disbelief—and in that moment, everything that had been left unsaid between you seemed to rise to the surface, finally, finally ready to be heard.
“You know me better than anyone in the world,” he continued, his voice softer now, more vulnerable. “And I wouldn’t want anyone else to be my wife. Will you marry me?”
The moment hit you like a wave—sudden, unexpected, yet undeniably perfect. No grand gestures, no public scene, no overly rehearsed words. Just Riki, in your living room, kneeling with a ring pop in hand, because he knew you hated flashy things and never wanted a proposal that felt like a performance. It was simple. It was real. You nodded, the word “yes” tumbling from your lips over and over, your voice catching with emotion. Riki stood, his eyes shining with joy, and gently slid the ring pop onto your finger. He chuckled softly, eyes crinkling at the corners as he looked at the oversized ring pop still perched loosely on your finger. “This isn’t your ring, you know,” he said, voice low and warm. Then he gently took your hand in both of his, lifting it to his lips as he kissed your knuckles—tender and unhurried, like he had all the time in the world just to hold you there.
“I have the real one right here,” he added, reaching into his pocket.
Your heart stopped for a second.
When he pulled out the velvet box and opened it, your breath hitched. There it was—the ring. Your ring. The one you had described to him in passing over the years, never thinking he was really listening to all the little details. But he had. Every last one.
The band was a soft silver, thin and elegant, exactly as you’d always liked. The setting held a delicate arrangement of diamonds—simple but breathtaking—and right along the inside of the band, your initials were etched in the tiniest, most beautiful script. Your eyes welled up again, this time not from surprise, but from the overwhelming realization that he had remembered everything.
You looked at him, your voice caught somewhere in your throat, and all you could do was smile through the tears. He had loved you in silence, in moments, in memories—and now, in a way that would last a lifetime.

Over 1000 photos to use for artistic reference, photo manipulation, marketing, and more!
I've been using these photos for years in my own art, painting over them or collaging them into backgrounds, adding textures to my digital artwork, etc. I decided to share them with other artists who may find them useful.
What these are: Photos I took on my phone in various places of buildings, items, animals, and more that I found visually interesting. There are photos from all over the southeast, as well as some from New Mexico, the Mojave desert, and Alaska. There's quite a variety.
What these aren't: Extremely high quality. Remember, these were taken on phone camera. These are best used as reference or in smaller sized projects. Additionally, if you're looking for very mundane buildings and objects, you won't find those in here. Expect retro cars, Victorian houses, weird and wonderful antique store finds, and evocative landscapes.
I'm offering these "pay what you want" so anyone can afford to use them. If you find them useful, tips are very much appreciated. ❤️

Summary: You go to the Christmas Markets with Sam.

Sam had decided to take you to a quaint little coffee shop near campus. You thought a simple idea like this would make a cute first date, despite meeting him only a few hours ago. The small window panes had a criss-cross pattern, matching with the glass on the front door. People were situated inside and the looks on their faces tell that they were content and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Warm yellow fairy lights strung up sitting along the frame of the window.
The pair of you took a seat inside, the quiet bustle of the workers talking with each other and customers sharing laughter. You sit down opposite him, and he smiles at you. He places his coat on the back of the chair, still standing up. “It’s on me,” He smirked, a dimple complimenting his gorgeous features. “Are you sure? I can-”
“No. Let me pay.” He insisted, then he paused.
“Please.” He smiled again, and you nodded. “Okay.” You let him know your order and he brings back the drinks from the counter.
Sam sat down opposite you, sliding your drink across to you.
Little did you know this was the start of something new.

Yourself and Sam have been seeing each other for over a year. You had quickly become best friends and did everything together.
It’s December, and you had begged Sam to take you to the Christmas Markets in town, so you can show him what he’s been missing out on his entire childhood.
When you arrived at the markets, you realised that it was swamped with people who had the same idea. You both reach an older man’s stall amidst the crowd. He’s wearing a red patterned bobble hat, a dark blue gilet with a white and grey Christmas themed jumper underneath with some jeans. You take a gander at his drawings, many ranging from nature, to pets and family. “Good morning guys,” He greets, stepping aside so you can get a proper view of his work. “These are really nice drawings,” you hush, taking in the commitment he has clearly put into every one of these. “I do commissions. If you give me around an hour, I can draw you both right now.” He says, you and Sam look at each other. You both agree to let him take a picture of you both and for him to draw you.
“You look like a lovely couple,” he starts. “How long have you been together?” He questions, sorting through his pencils and finding the right size paper. Sam chuckles nervously. You attempt to avoid both of their eyes. You pause. “Uh, we’re not dating.” You hesitate.
“We’re just friends.”
“Yeah.”
The guy turns around and looks at you both, then laughs heartily. “Sure don’t look like it,” he starts, then picks up a digital camera. Sam’s arm wraps around your waist, and he leans into you. You both smile whilst he snaps a picture to work from.
“Thank you. Please come back in an hour. It will be ready for you.” He grins warmly at you as you both walk away.
Sam decided he wanted to go to the hot chocolate stall, since there weren’t many people waiting in queue, meaning you could spend more time enjoying the markets than wasting time waiting.
Ever since you both are glued at the hip with one another, Sam has never allowed you to pay for anything. You did find it was an annoyance as you wanted some independence when it came to money, but it was Sam’s way of showing he wanted to take care of you. In that way, it’s sweet. Nurturing. You had no idea where all this money came from but Sam is a stable, caring guy, so you know you’re safe with him.
Sam passed you a red thermal paper cup with steaming, thick hot chocolate. Cream floats on top with a few marshmallows. Three pink and two white. He takes a sip of his drink and you do the same. Sam looks around, admiring the handiwork of the lights that are on metal frames hanging between buildings. One has two reindeer on either side, with a present in between them. Red and gold flash slowly within the present, and the cool white reindeer compliments it.
Whilst Sam looks around, you’re looking at him. As the light reflects in his eyes, you can tell he’s finally content. When he took you on the date to the coffee shop, you had got to know the basics of each other, then into the nitty-gritty of Sam’s traumatic childhood and the reason why he enrolled in college. You knew all about his father, John, and his brother, Dean. You didn’t want to ask much about his mother, as this was already a touchy subject for him. He admitted that all of this wasn’t too challenging for him, but more-so for Dean. Dean always had Sam’s back growing up, except from his father. This is where Sam and Dean bumped heads quite a lot because he ‘respected his father more’. Sam never believed it.
Sam catches your eyes, then leading down to your lips. You grin, holding the eye contact with him. You reach up, kissing him on the lips. Sam’s surprised that you took the jump, as he was about to do the same thing. He raises his hands and cups your face, keeping you close. He then moves his hands down to your waist. You pull away. He looks down at you. Delicate, fluffy snowflakes fall from the sky gently, some flakes sticking to the top of his head.
“I wanna ask you something,” He asks, still smiling down at you.
“The answer’s yes.”
“You don’t even know what I’m going to ask!” He exclaims, laughing at your reaction. “I do, and the answer is yes.” You reply, joining in with the laughter.
Sam leans in and kisses you on the forehead, embracing you in a hug. He then pulls away, placing a passionate, longing kiss on your lips.

what do you like about cars?
I think you knew, upon asking this, that I could only ever have answered with either an ironic one-liner or a dozen-part novel. And unfortunately, this is already the second line, so novel it is. So then, without any further ado than the literal half year that’s gone by since this was asked, let's go.
1. Engineering matters
At the end of last year (aka when I started writing this, yikes) my dear old iPhone 6S moved on to a new home because it simply wasn't keeping up with me anymore. (And again, I was using an iPhone 6S in 2023. If I say a phone is too slow, it's too slow.) I had plenty of criteria for the replacement: a smallish screen not overboard on resolution, ideally a physical media control button and/or vibration toggle, repairability, a FUCKING AUX JACK... Something like the Sony Xperia 10, whose only real issue is marketing so trash you've only just now learned Sony never stopped making phones.

This fancy wallpapers-sporting foldable is a Motorola RAZR 5G, a phone whose too-big screen already broke (though at the edge due to adhesive issues) and those who dared try warn repairing it will be as hard as phone repairs get. Why the fuck did I buy this? Well, because it has something more important than the aux jack, proper sizing, and good cameras: it made me go “That’s so cool!”, and when’s the last time a phone made you say that? It's the cusp of a new technology, and whether it becomes the future of phones, a future of phones, or just a weird footnote, it is an island of interesting in a sea of boring. And sadly, even this island is rapidly sinking. The drive for new form factors has already boiled down to the same two phones and their evolution is sinking into the usual millimetric proportion tweaking, camera rearranging, touchscreen expanding, case material switching, fingerprint sensor moving, and spec improvements not even manufacturers can come up with use cases for. I mean, seriously, how does the iPhone 15 differ from a software-updated iPhone X (which is apparently not pronounced "x", so I guess the iPhone Twitter)? Nothing is new. Nothing is tackled differently. The user experience does not differ. And why should it, when iPhone users will get a new one out of habit anyway and many are so tech illiterate moving a button could hospitalize them? Five generation newer and 150% faster are numbers you basically have to trust, because they don't make a difference that matters.
But in cars? 150% faster will matter alright. Even just looking at it. Cars are a visceral experience to even witness, let alone ride in or drive, and the frantic engineering pursuits for performance and overall capability actually have impactful real world implications beyond "some pockets will bulge 1mm less". And their engineering involves so many fields that there’s always a breakthrough going on somewhere - which leads to another reason their engineering is so interesting: there’s simply so much of it that anyone interested in engineering will find something for them, no matter their level or sector of expertise! Interested in mechanics? Well, obviously you’ll have a field day! Aerodynamics? Don't even get me started! Electronics? You're getting more goods by the year! It spread from engine management to safety assists to infotainment to ergonomic adjustments to even suspension and aerodynamics! Sound design? Even just working on the way engines sound is a profession of its own, let alone making these barrels of metal and glass propelling themselves at triple digit speeds through hundreds of explosions a second things you can comfortably have a conversation in - and that's not even mentioning horns and chimes! Hi-Fi? We’ve spent most of a century trying to get concert hall sound from a tiny tin can where everyone sits off-center and everything bumps and shakes around and you have maybe room for two components* a third the normal size and speakers can only be in a handful of places you wouldn’t want them which may well be the next room over**!
And this is just engineering.

SpaceTime is Australia’s most popular and respected astronomy and space science news program – averaging over two million downloads every year. History is rife with examples of companies that reached just that bit too far, people who promised just that bit too much and were unable to back up their claims. Companies that made one fatal mistake, and realized too late just how rickety their lofty towers were. Blockbuster refused to buy Netflix; Kodak refused to shift into the digital camera industry; Palm PDA’s thought that cell phones were a ‘fad’ and refused to buy into it. And, most recently; House El Incorporated has partnered with LuthorCorp.
House El Incorporated, more commonly known as ‘Elco,’ is a newer business in the tech scene. Launching late in 2012, Elco’s claim to fame is their alien outlook on the industry - literally. They broke into the scene with the Icon One, a cellular phone that has rapidly risen in popularity due to its slim size, large battery life, and processing power. The phone is quite literally decades ahead of the market, for a rather simple reason -
It uses alien technology to get there. The company’s CEO, a young woman named Kara Zor-El, is famously Kryptonian; she has founded her company on technology from beyond the stars, and aims to win the big bucks by monopolizing her hold on tech leagues beyond our development.
That would be a remarkably efficient way to climb to the top of the tech industry, if the Icon hadn’t been swiftly surrounded in scandal; its power source and method of transmission required strenuous testing before it could be introduced to the market. Testing that the phone is still going through four years later - the Icon has hit the market, but many experienced voices in the sector believe that such leaps in technology may be a bit beyond humanity’s reach.
Elco hasn’t released a new item since, apparently frightened by how seriously Earth takes the safety of its citizens. The Icon has rapidly faded from the public eye, a lack of innovation meaning newer phones have taken its spot on the stage. Now, the company is promising something entirely different: infinite energy! If that sounds a bit fantastical to you, you aren’t alone. Ms. Zor-El recently held a meeting with several automobile companies; Ford, Porsche, Toyota, and Volkswagen were all intrigued by the promise of new engines to run electric cars on - engines that could provide limitless power with no need for fuel or recharging. We spoke to one member of the Ford board of directors, who was at the meeting, and he was less than enthused by the idea.
“She’s promising something that just isn’t there,” Richard Mietz told us, at The Edge of Tomorrow. “The engine she mentions is still in the labs; I would be interested in seeing more but [Ms. Zor-El] isn’t willing to share the fine details. She wants promises and contracts, but refuses investment - I don’t think she understands how things are done here. Currently, all we know is that there may or may not be an engine, it may or may not work - and she wants people to buy it as soon as it hits the market. I’m not sold.”
Other sources in the industry say the same - Elco’s ‘Waveform Resonance Engine’ is expected to take just as long, if not longer than the Icon to verify and test before it can hit the market. With the declining sales of the Icon and Elcos lack of income, most analysts expect the company to go under within the next two years.
Luckily for them, a new company seems rather eager to jump onto the sinking ship.

Scrolls are probably the single most common electronic device that people have. In Final Rose, they function as a combination of mobile phone and laptop. Thanks to the marvels of miniaturisation technology, a scroll that can fit into your pocket or clip onto your belt can also unfold to the size of a laptop without any real difficulty.
Basically, just about every adult has a scroll and so does pretty much every teenager. You won’t always see scrolls in people younger than that since communicators (i.e., mobile communication devices) are often given to children rather than scrolls to prevent them spending too much time online.
Scrolls can vary dramatically in terms of price and capabilities.
The cheapest scrolls are quite affordable for anyone working a steady job. They won’t have the best cameras, the fastest processors, or the best display quality. However, they’ll get the job done at an affordable price. Although Dia Technologies basically rules the scroll market, one of the keys to their success has been their range of budget scrolls. Need to research and write that assignment? Go ahead, use your scroll. Almost anything digital that a normal person would ever want to do can be done on their scroll.

Furthermore, scrolls can generally be tracked, so actually stealing one and getting away with it is difficult since the tracking unit is generally placed in a position where you’d have to junk the scroll to get rid of it.
To alleviate privacy concerns, access to scroll location data is strictly controlled and generally requires the consent of the owner to obtain. That said, there are loopholes and the like, just like on Earth, that have been taken advantage of from time to time.
