I really hope we get to see Solas when he was ‘-Young, hot-blooded and cocky’ in Veilguard.
BioWare already confirmed the story will be told more visually instead of relying on codex entries. Does this mean flashbacks? Young Solas flashbacks?? I can only dream (…and draw).

honestly, i love being a part of the Grey Warden enjoyers club.
they are the start of your journey. they can never do anything wrong. they fuck up often. they are a genuinely secretive order where even the higher-ups don't know things. they have such a political pull that can move a nation, and yet admit to none. they are so completely and entirely devoted to their cause that they get blinded by it. they are the second chance for a new life. they have a multitude of rules but they also break the laws of others' so easily to achieve what they need. they have an amazing creed, and they live by it to the fullest. they give up their lives to protect others without a question. they are alive and dead at the same time.
fucking love Grey Wardens, the most faction ever.

Fenris going from his broody mcbroody self to gentlest and happiest man on Thedas the moment he sees a mabari will never not be simultaneously super adorable and the funniest thing ever. And he's right, Autumn is a very good girl.

2023 drama roundup
Unchained Love: I still hum the unhinged flute intro on a regular basis, easily my fave intro of 2023! I didn't actually finish the show due to dwindling interest, but for the first 14 episodes or so I took a keen pleasure in it (and it made me go on a eunuch webnovel spree, expertly curated by @mercipourleslivres). I love it when heroines are allowed to be truly funny, rather than just quirky or ditzy. Also appreciate the goofy Lamp Prince turning into a brutal incel tyrant the moment he got power.
Six Flying Dragons: I don't think I can write anything succinct enough for the roundup format so I direct you to my "my sfd tag" if you want to access my enthused livetweeting. Show of all times, lives were changed.
Tree with Deep Roots: I literally can't think of a better topic for a tv show than Sejong the Great constructing hangul together with his band of nerds, one of whom he has a weirdly intense, vaguely erotic relationship with. Han Suk-kyu carried this entire show on his trembling shoulders. What an actor! What range!!! It was such a treat to watch him smugly debate his ministers, roleplay a farmer, and hiss half-mad soliloquies to himself in the dark. It took nuance and depth to portray the kind of inner conflicts and generational trauma that Sejong battles in the background of this drama. To be honest I didn't always enjoy the Milbon subplot which I felt got repetitive, and often found myself wanting to fast-forward the wuxia scenes. In a better world the show would have centered the whip-smart palace maids and their alphabet workshops. But I will definitely rewatch this soon. And maybe also write a fix-it where Sejong and Soo-yi fuck idk.
Quartet: Cute little murder mystery about a found family of freaks, liked it a lot.
My Country: The New Age: As entertaining as ever. Very fun to rewatch this back to back with Tree with Deep Roots, since Jang Hyuk plays diametrically opposite characters with the same vigor and commitment.
Gone with the Rain: Sometimes you watch something which you understand is technically a masterpiece but it doesn't do anything for you, and sometimes you watch a piece of campy silly fun and it makes you tingle with joy. This was the latter category for me. I liked the first and middle parts enough to make up for the lukewarm fizzle of an ending.
The Autumn Ballad: Has some fucked up elements that are difficult to stomach, but the parts that are good are really good.
Not Others: Bingeable! But imo they could have cut out the stalker/murder cases and just focused on the excellent family drama.
The Matchmakers: This surprisingly swooped in towards the end of the year as my favorite comedy of 2023, all thanks to a rec by @haraxvati. I adore Cho Yi-hyun in this role!!! She is so hot as a shrewd matchmaker with a fake mole and a twinkle in her eye. Love the virgin prince with his yearning-induced panic attacks (Rowoon didn't work for me in The King's Affection in a quite similar role, but he's so much weirder and lamer here, which is something I like in a man). I am obsessed with the side plot of the crossdressing romance novelist and the solemn police officer who is trying to capture her and ends up giving her free home renovations and smouldering looks instead. Also, Park Ji-Young and Lee Hae-Young are two of my favorite villain actors on their own, and here they are married!! Still have a few episodes to go, but I intend to binge them as soon as I post this.
Dramas I dropped or paused:
Our Blossoming Youth: I shipped the heroine and her cute maidservant a little too much to bear the dull prince they stuck her with. But I might rewatch it some day bc I want to write a Sherlock Holmes fic for the girls.
Little Women: A real disappointment, because I love Louisa May Alcott and I love Jeong Seo-kyeong. Once again, letting the women kiss might have solved much of it.
Island: Casting Kim Nam-gil as an expressionless cool-guy action hero offends me personally. (Yes Song of the Bandits I'm giving you the stinky eye also.) But Lee Da-hee and Cha Eun-woo were delightful!
See you in my 19th life: I couldn't, even for my most darling Shin Hye-sun, go beyond episode 1. There's something about a kid dating another kid even though she's a literal adult inside her brain that I can't really vibe with.
My Dearest: I do intend to finish this, but I lost the thread after the first half. It got a little too dark for me I think.

When I was in middle school I remember reading a fantasy book that I was super invested in, but for years I couldn’t remember what the book was called. I FINALLY figured it out after googling a bunch of iterations of what the cover looked like, and it turned out it was the original Dragonlance trilogy! I re-read them last year and they unlocked some little nostalgia part of my brain, I really wanted to hash out my renditions of some of the main cast.

Look, I'm HYPED after the gameplay reveal, but all I wanna say is that the confrontation could have gone very different if it had been Lavellan trying to stop the ritual instead.

How about "cooking together" fromt he character a/character b bingo for anders and hawke? :)
I think I have explained before that I find fluff hard to write 😂 but... but... I think I may have actually managed it for once!!! So, some Hawke/Anders domestic fluff for @dadrunkwriting and @character-a-character-b June bingo.
The warm glow of the kitchen hearth cast flickering shadows across the room as Anders and Hawke stood side by side, preparing ingredients for dinner. Autumn hummed softly to herself as she diced vegetables, while Anders attempted to replicate her skill with a slightly less confident hand.
"This smells amazing," Anders remarked, taking in the aroma of the herbs and spices mingling in the air.
Autumn flashed him a smile over her shoulder. "It's a family recipe. My mother passed it down to me."
Anders watched her movements, marvelling at the grace with which she handled each ingredient. "Did she teach you to cook?" he asked.
Autumn chuckled softly, her hands deftly manoeuvring the knife as she replied, "She tried. But I was more interested in climbing trees and exploring caves back then."
Anders grinned, stirring the pot on the stove. "I can picture you as a mischievous child, getting into all sorts of trouble."
"You wouldn't be wrong," Autumn admitted with a laugh. "But eventually, I realised knowing how to cook meant I could eat whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted."
She looked over at Anders, her expression fond. "Of course, now that we have the estate and... staff, Mother seems to think I shouldn't be cooking anymore."
Anders chuckled, a twinkle of amusement in his eyes. "Well, I, for one, am grateful for your culinary skills." He gestured toward his own clumsy attempts to cut vegetables. "They didn't exactly teach us to cook at the Circle."
Autumn smiled warmly at Anders, "Well, it's never too late to learn," she teased gently, nudging him playfully with her elbow as she continued chopping vegetables. "Besides, as long as it tastes good, it’s appearance is not important."
Anders chuckled softly at her playful nudge, feeling a warmth spread through him that had little to do with the hearth's glow. He glanced at Autumn, admiring the way her hair caught the firelight and her eyes sparkled with amusement. Cooking together like this, in the quiet intimacy the kitchen, felt like a rare moment of peace amidst the chaos of Kirkwall.
He shifted his attention back to the task at hand, determined to contribute something meaningful to their meal. "Well, in that case, I think I'm doing alright," he replied with a grin, focusing on chopping the vegetables a bit more carefully before he paused and looked up again, his expression softening. "You know, this is nice. It feels... normal."
Autumn stopped chopping, a soft smile tugging at the corners of her lips as she considered Anders' words. "Normal," she repeated, the word carrying a weight of longing and contentment all at once. "Yes, it does, doesn't it?"
"We should do this more often," Autumn said quietly. "Just... be normal. Even if it's only for a little while."
Anders met her gaze, “I'd like that," he replied, his gaze meeting hers with warmth and affection. "Thank you, Autumn. For this... and for everything."
Autumn felt a swell of warmth in her chest at Anders' words, his gratitude touching her deeply. She set down her knife and turned to face him fully, stepping closer. "You're welcome, Anders," she murmured as she gently guided his hands away from the chopping board, drawing him to face her, drawing him into a gentle embrace as she leaned in to kiss him softly. Anders responded eagerly, the warmth of their closeness melting away the stresses of the day. In that moment, they were simply Anders and Autumn, finding solace and joy in each other's presence.
The kitchen around them faded into the background as they shared a quiet, tender moment together. Autumn could feel the steady rhythm of Anders' heartbeat against her chest, grounding her in the reality of their shared intimacy. His arms tightened around her, pulling her closer, as if he never wanted to let go.

Fic update: An emotion I won't name
Tumblr media
Ehh, I'm still capable of writing Dragon Age fanfic?!
After more than a year (I'm so sorry), I've finally posted another chapter for Neri's Awakening longfic, "An emotion I won't name." Above art by the amazing @/lilithkb!
Fic summary: Neri Surana: former Circle mage. Hero of Ferelden. Warden-Commander. Never been in love (probably), never sought it out (definitely). But after an unexpected kiss from Anders, Neri can't stop thinking about him, and they aren't ready for what those thoughts imply.
Chapter 11 summary: After the best birthday ever, Neri catches up on a few things around the Keep, including a long-overdue conversation with Justice.
Rating: M
Relationships: Anders/Surana, Nathaniel Howe & Surana, Oghren & Surana, Felsi/Oghren, Sigrun/Velanna
Additional Tags: Agender Character, Genderqueer Character, Banter, Companionable Snark, Angst, intimate medical attention, Sexual Tension, Flirting, Explicit Consent, Past Sexual Experience, LGBTQ Themes, LGBTQ Character, Minor Spoilers, Smut, Self-Doubt, Politics, Intrigue, Blood and Violence, Anders Positive , Found Family, art as a little treat, Gender Dysphoria
Chapter 11 snippet below the cut
-----
Early morning sunlight illuminates the room as I gingerly run my fingers through the hair of the man still sleeping next to me. Anders must be deeply asleep for my gesture not to wake him. I don’t know when his hair tie vanished last night, our entwined bodies capturing far too much of my attention for me to notice.
One of his hands rests on top of the quilt. Dry, lined skin hallmarks the many washings subjected upon a healer’s hands, the ministrations he offers without demand of compensation or debt. I tuck a loose lock of hair behind my ear and then lean down to brush my lips against each of his knuckles. He may never realize how many times these hands have saved me.
I glance up at his face to find his eyes meeting mine. “Good morning,” he murmurs.
“When did you wake up?”
“Mm, not long after you did.”
“Why pretend to be asleep?”
“Because I was enjoying your touch, and I feared you might stop if you knew.”
