SECOND COURSE - KITCHEN
(or at least the main parts i recognized)
Tumblr media
mads mikkelsen and lydia hearst for "euroman", april 2010 by kenneth willardt.
1. GE Monogram 36" Rangetop
First up, the rangetop. Unlike a cooktop, which sets into a pre-cut space in a counter or island, a rangetop overflows the sides and extends beyond the boundaries of the counter with front-facing knobs. This unit in particular is the GE Monogram 36" Rangetop (ZGU366NPSS), with an MSRP of $3400, reversible grates, and six 18,000 BTU power boil burners.
2. 30" GE Monogram Tri-Zone Counter Depth Integrated Refrigerator
Next, a dual installation of 30" GE Monogram Tri-Zone Counter-Depth Integrated Refrigerators (ZIC30GNHIl, shown with optional custom panels for seamless appearance). With an MSRP of $6999 each, these units are made more shallow, known in the industry as counter-depth, to integrate properly with standard cabinetry. Featuring fridge, freezer, and convertible middle-drawer climate zones, this unit has a capacity of 14.09 cu. ft. overall, per unit. It has two separate sealed systems for constant temperature control, and uses the first HFC-Free refrigerant, which has a lower global-warming impact.
3. 30" GE Monogram European Convection Double Wall Oven
A 30" GE Monogram European Convection Double Wall Oven (ZET2SHSS). An MSRP of $5300, with two 5.0 cu. ft. capacity oven cavities. With easy-to-clean all-glass interior door panels, both self-clean and steam-clean options, ten-pass baking elements, and two True European Convection ovens, these units boast convection bake and roast features with closed-door broiling as to not overheat a kitchen, and a built-in temperature probe for perfectly cooked roasts. It also offers a proof mode to assist dough-rising for avid bakers, convection conversion as to not overcook standard recipes, can be monitored remotely with use of a smart phone and GE's WiFi Connect app, and is programmable in both Celsius and Fahrenheit.
4. GE Monogram 240v Built In Oven with Advantium Speedcook Technology
Behold, the GE Monogram 240v Built In Oven with Advantium Speedcook Technology (ZSC2201JSS).
This bad chicken has an MSRP of $3200 and has settings for Speedcook, microwave, convection, and warming. What the hell is Speedcook? It's a combination of microwaves and convection, delivering results up to eight times faster than conventional cooking, and without the need for pre-heating. This thing can reheat, microwave, toast, brown, bake, and gently warm to your heart's content, and has the ability to remember custom recipes.
5. 30" GE Monogram Warming Drawer
Next up, the 30" GE Monogram Warming Drawer (ZW9000SJSS). With an MSRP of $1600, this drawer has a 1.9 cu. ft. capacity, and has variable temperature settings of anything from 75*F to 230*F, and humidity controls from crisp to moist. Gross. It also has a half-rack so you can store more on the inside, and has ball-bearing glides so it pulls out and closes smoothly while making that soothing whoosh noise.
6. 24" GE Monogram Undercabinet Wine Reserve
We also have the 24" GE Monogram Undercabinet Wine Reserve (ZDWR240HBS). With a cool MSRP of $2000, undercabinet wine refrigerators are notoriously tricky because of their front-facing venting needs. If you suffocate refrigerators, even small ones, (like humans) they die.
This fridge features cooling settings suitable to red or white wines, full-extension sliding racks with both horizontal and vertical storage, and has a capacity of 5.5 cu. ft, or 57 bottles.
Hannibal also, apparently, does not believe in dishwashers-panel-ready, drawer-style or otherwise.
What he does believe in? Is coffee, apparently:
7. Royal Paris Vacuum Balancing Coffee Siphon by Royal Coffee Maker
This, dear Fannibals, is a Royal Paris Vacuum Balancing Coffee Siphon, specifically noted by Bryan Fuller to be crafted by Royal Coffee Maker.
Handmade by artisans with affordable materials such as genuine Baccarat Crystal, malachite, copper, obsidian, azurite, and plating of silver and 24k gold, these start at the low, low price of approximately $15,500.
Hannibal's model is the Royal Classic finished in silver, on a Piano Black base. It is, perhaps surprisingly or unsurprisingly, the most tasteful and least ostentatious of all available models.
Tumblr media
This brings the approximate total of all Hannibal's kitchen appliances, plus or minus a few of the minor ones, to $45,000.
8. Additionally in his stolen borrowed home in Florence: La Cornue 43" CornuFé Range
In 1908, in the heart of Paris, Albert Dupuy ignited the flame of elite cuisine. It was there that Dupuy premiered the world's first convection oven. At the time, most ovens were mere flat-topped cavities that held racks suspended over a fire. The majority of people simply considered cooking to be heating food to eat. But Dupuy pondered: "What does it really mean to cook?" He developed his oven with a vaulted ceiling to usher heat around the food, rather than trapping it to burn beneath. To enable optimum precision, the oven drew upon the city gas lines that were winding their way to homes and street lamps throughout the City of Light. Dupuy christened the oven La Cornue after the French term cornue - the system for refining the gas that warmed the new creation.
Each range is made by hand and the labor is intensive. Each worker is a specialist, understanding the greater goal.
However they are not just craftsmen, but companions to each range along its journey from inception to crated final product. They are experts in steel, copper and brass, inspired by great design, working as a team to create an inspired tradition.
True excellence can only be achieved when every step in the process is in pursuit of perfection.
For over 100 years, La Cornue has continued to build upon Albert's initial convection innovation and they've expanded the designs and introduced new styles. As a result, the name La Cornue is supposed to represent a renowned spirit.
Hannibal's version runs about $10,000.

From country to concrete: evidence that cities are changing how plants reproduce
From country to concrete: evidence that cities are changing how plants reproduce https://ift.tt/KsXmzGV While the effects of urbanisation on animal behaviour are widely studied, little is known about how city living influences the reproductive traits of plants. A new study from researchers at the National Institute for Environmental Studies in Japan, recently published in Annals of Botany, has uncovered evidence that urban environments can drive evolutionary changes in plants’ reproductive strategies.  Open flowers of Portulaca oleracea. Image: Dianakc / Wikimedia Commons. The team focused on Portulaca oleracea, a small flowering plant commonly known as purslane that is found throughout Japan. P. oleracea has a unique reproductive system where individual plants are genetically predisposed to produce either open, insect-pollinated flowers (chasmogamous or CH plants) or self-pollinating enclosed flowers (cleistogamous or CL plants). This dual strategy enables the plant to adapt to varying environmental conditions. The evolution and prevalence of these reproductive traits in response to urbanisation were the focal points of this investigation.  To compare reproductive strategies between urban and rural environments, the researchers collected seed samples from ten P. oleracea populations scattered around Tokyo’s urban areas and ten populations from more rural zones. They grew the seeds in a controlled garden and recorded the flower type, timing of bloom, and seed production for each resulting plant. First author Tomohiro Fujita in personal communication with Annals of Botany talked about the advantages that common garden experiment offers for understanding the impact of urbanisation on reproductive traits. “To verify evolution, we need to distinguish between genetic changes and environmental changes (i.e., plasticity). I believe common garden experiments are an effective means to differentiate between the two.” he said. The results showed a clear difference between city and country plants. Urban populations had far fewer open CH plants that rely on insect pollinators compared to rural areas, where open CH plants were more common. Closed CL plants, which can self-pollinate without needing insect help, dominated in the cities.  Moreover, the city-dwelling CL plants tended to bloom and set seed earlier in the season than their rural CL or CH counterparts. They also produced heavier seeds on average. The researchers believe these traits would help the plants avoid heat and drought stress – two environmental pressures exacerbated in urban settings with hotter microclimates and less water availability. “Our results suggest that P. oleracea in urban areas is evolving towards self-fertilization, “says Fujita. “While self-fertilization may spread in populations due to short-term advantages like reproductive assurance, it might reduce the evolutionary potential at the population level and increase the risk of extinction. For example, if urban growing conditions change due to future climate change, individuals with cleistogamous flowers may have low evolutionary potential and might not be able to maintain their populations. I believe further research is needed on this topic.” By demonstrating reproductive changes linked to the plant’s environment, the study reveals that urbanisation is a potent driver of evolutionary change in the reproductive systems of plants like P. oleracea. As cities continue to expand and alter natural habitats, understanding these adaptive mechanisms becomes crucial for predicting how plant species will respond to future urbanisation. It will be the first mass-market coupe SUV from the home-grown automaker that will come with both ICE (internal combustion engine) and electric powertrains.
Tumblr media
he electric iteration of the Curvv underpins the brand’s new Acti.ev architecture and features signature split LED headlamp clusters, a new grille with piano black and body color finish, bumper-integrated fog lamps, larger air intake, and a pronounced faux skid plate at the front.
The interior of the coupe SUV will share features with the Harrier and Safari. It will have a 10.25-inch screen setup for the instrument cluster and digital dials, a floating touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a Harrier-like two-spoke steering wheel, Head-Up Display, ventilated front seats, an electric parking brake, wireless charger, connected car features, dual-zone climate control, and a 360-degree camera. The higher trims will be offered with some exclusive amenities such as a panoramic sunroof and Level 2 ADAS tech.
Specifications of the Tata Curvv EV are yet to be revealed. However, the electric SUV is likely to deliver a range of around 450km – 500km. The SUV’s ICE version will use Tata’s new 125bhp, 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol and Nexon’s 1.5L, 4-cylinder diesel engines. It’s also reported to be offered with a CNG fuel option at a later stage.
Tumblr media
The Tata SUV-coupe’s back feels tall and the boot lid is positioned a lot higher than the bonnet, which has likely been done to increase the luggage space on offer (422 litres claimed).
Its key styling detail here is the wraparound and connected LED tail lights. The tall bumper – having a faux skid plate with silver finish at the bottom – mimics the split-headlight setup, which is replaced by the reflectors and reversing lamps here.

Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione
The 8C Competizione was introduced at the 2006 Paris Motor Show and revived the 8C name originally used for Alfa Romeo’s eight-cylinder racing cars of the 1930s. Styling cues from the company’s post-war sporting cars can be seen in the carbon-fiber body panels, which are supported by a steel space frame. Of the 500 Competizione examples built, 90 were designated for the US, marking the nameplate’s return to the market after a 13-year absence.
The staggered-width 20” alloy wheels feature a cloverleaf-style design and are mounted with 245/35 front and 285/35 rear Pirelli P Zero tires. Stopping power is provided by black Alfa Romeo-branded Brembo calipers over cross-drilled rotors at all four corners. The cockpit features carbon-fiber seats trimmed in black leather accented by red stitching along with a matching headliner and door panels. The dashboard and center console feature brushed aluminum and carbon-fiber trim, and additional equipment includes dual-zone climate control, an Impianto Bose Premium GT sound system, and a navigation system.
Designed by Ferrari and Maserati, the 4.7-liter F136 YC V8 featured a 90° bank angle and a cross-plane crankshaft. It produced 444 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 354 lb-ft of torque at 4,750 rpm when new.  Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed semi-automatic transaxle that can be operated in five different modes of automatic or paddle-controlled shifting. A limited-slip differential was standard.

Understanding the Cost of Installing Ducted Air Conditioning: A Complete Breakdown
Ducted air conditioning is considered the pinnacle of home comfort solutions, providing seamless climate control throughout your entire home. However, the price of ducted air conditioning Maitland is often a significant investment, and understanding the various factors that influence these costs can help homeowners make informed decisions.
Tumblr media
In this comprehensive guide, we will break down the key elements that impact the cost of ducted air conditioning installation, including the size of your home, system type, labour, and additional features.
1. Home Size and Layout: The Primary Cost Factor
One of the most influential factors when it comes to the cost of ducted air conditioning is the size and layout of your home. Larger homes require more extensive ductwork and a more powerful air conditioning unit to ensure that cool air is distributed evenly across all rooms.
Small Homes (1-2 bedrooms): Typically, smaller homes will require a smaller unit, resulting in a lower price of ducted air conditioning. The installation process is also quicker, as fewer ducts need to be installed.
Medium-Sized Homes (3-4 bedrooms): For homes in this range, the cost begins to rise as a larger capacity system is needed to manage cooling across multiple rooms. More ductwork is required, which increases both material and labour costs.
Large Homes (5+ bedrooms): The largest homes will require the most powerful systems and the most ductwork. Homes with multiple stories may also require additional zoning (discussed later), which adds to the complexity and overall cost of the installation.
2. Type of System: Selecting the Right Unit
The type of ducted air conditioning system you choose plays a major role in determining the total cost of installation. There are various types of ducted systems available, each with different features and efficiency levels.
Standard Ducted Air Conditioning Systems: These are the most common systems used in homes. They consist of an indoor unit that connects to ductwork throughout your home, distributing air to each room. The price for ducted air conditioning systems can vary widely based on the brand, capacity, and energy efficiency.
Reverse Cycle Ducted Systems: These systems not only cool your home in the summer but can also provide heating during the colder months. Reverse cycle units tend to be more expensive than standard systems, but the dual functionality can provide long-term value, especially in climates that experience both hot and cold weather.
Inverter Ducted Systems: Inverter technology allows the air conditioning unit to regulate its power consumption based on the cooling demand. This makes the system more energy-efficient, as it doesn’t need to cycle on and off constantly.
While these air conditioning installation in Kurri Kurri come with a higher upfront cost, they are often preferred due to their energy savings over time.
3. Labour and Installation: Skilled Work That Impacts the Bottom Line
Installing a ducted air conditioning system is not a simple DIY project—it requires skilled professionals to ensure that the system is installed safely and correctly. The complexity of the installation will depend on several factors:
Ductwork Installation: One of the primary labour-intensive tasks is running ductwork throughout your home. If your home has existing ducts, the installation will be simpler and less costly. However, if ductwork needs to be installed from scratch, this will add to both the time and cost of the project.
Retrofitting Older Homes: Homes that are older or have unconventional layouts may require additional modifications for the air conditioning installation in Kurri Kurri. For example, installing ducted air conditioning in homes without sufficient roof space or with thick walls may involve extra labour and materials, increasing costs.
Professional Expertise: Choosing an experienced and licensed HVAC installer is essential for both the quality and safety of your ducted system. While you may be tempted to choose a cheaper contractor, poor installation can lead to inefficient operation, system breakdowns, and even safety hazards.
4. Zoning: Customised Comfort for Every Room
Zoning allows you to divide your home into different areas or “zones,” each of which can be controlled separately. This means you can cool only the rooms that are in use, reducing energy consumption and lowering your utility bills. However, zoning requires additional equipment, such as zone motors and control panels, which will add to the cost of the air conditioning installation in Kurri Kurri.
Single-Zone Systems: These are the most basic and least expensive option, providing uniform cooling throughout the entire home.
Multi-Zone Systems: Multi-zone systems allow for more control, offering the ability to adjust the temperature in different parts of your home independently. The more zones you add, the higher the overall cost, but the benefit is increased comfort and energy savings.
Conclusion
Installing ducted air conditioning can be a substantial financial commitment, but by understanding the various factors that influence the cost, you can make more informed decisions. The size of your home, the type of system, labour costs, zoning, and energy efficiency all play a role in determining the final price of ducted air conditioning.
While it may be tempting to cut corners, investing in a high-quality system and professional installation will ensure that you enjoy the comfort and efficiency of your ducted air conditioning Maitland for years to come.

Winnipeg Ductless Split Air Conditioner
A ductless split air conditioner is a popular cooling option in Winnipeg, known for its energy efficiency and flexibility. Unlike traditional systems, ductless split units don’t require extensive ductwork, making them ideal for homes without central air systems or for cooling specific rooms. These systems consist of an outdoor unit and one or more indoor air handlers, connected by a small conduit.
1. Energy Efficiency
Ductless split air conditioners are highly energy-efficient. They allow you to cool specific areas or rooms (known as “zones”), which reduces overall energy consumption by eliminating the need to cool the entire house. This makes them cost-effective, especially in homes where only certain rooms need to be cooled regularly.
2. Easy Installation
Installing a ductless split system is relatively simple compared to traditional HVAC systems. Since there’s no need for ductwork, the installation process is quicker and less invasive. This makes it an ideal choice for older homes, apartments, or areas where installing ductwork would be impractical or expensive.
3. Flexibility and Control
One of the biggest advantages of a ductless split air conditioner is its flexibility. Each indoor unit can be controlled independently, allowing you to set different temperatures in different rooms. This is perfect for households where different family members have varying temperature preferences or where certain rooms require more cooling than others, such as upstairs bedrooms or sunrooms.
4. Quiet Operation
Ductless split systems are known for their quiet operation. Since the noisy compressor is located outside, the indoor units operate quietly, providing a comfortable and peaceful environment in your home. This feature is especially beneficial for bedrooms, home offices, and living rooms where noise can be a distraction.
5. Improved Air Quality
Ductless systems can also improve indoor air quality. Traditional HVAC systems with ductwork can accumulate dust, allergens, and mold over time. Ductless systems, on the other hand, don’t have these ducts, meaning there are fewer places for allergens to accumulate. Many ductless units also come with advanced filtration systems that help purify the air, removing allergens and dust particles.
6. Year-Round Comfort
Ductless split air conditioners are not just for cooling; many models also come with heat pump functionality. This means that the same system can provide both cooling in the summer and heating in the winter, offering year-round comfort for Winnipeg’s varied climate. This dual functionality makes ductless systems a versatile and convenient solution for homeowners.

For those living in Peebles, where the scenic beauty of the Scottish Borders meets a growing commitment to green living, the Honda HR-V Hybrid offers an ideal solution. This compact SUV not only meets the demands of modern drivers but also contributes to a more sustainable future. Here’s why the Honda HR-V Hybrid is the perfect choice for eco-conscious drivers in Peebles and beyond.
A Commitment to Sustainability
The Honda HR-V Hybrid embodies the best of modern hybrid technology, offering a balance between performance and environmental responsibility. With increasing concerns about climate change and the rising cost of fuel, hybrid vehicles are becoming an attractive option for those looking to reduce their carbon footprint without compromising on driving pleasure. The Honda HR-V Hybrid is engineered with these principles in mind, making it a standout choice for those who care about the environment.
Impressive Fuel Efficiency
One of the most significant advantages of the Honda HR-V Hybrid is its impressive fuel efficiency. The hybrid powertrain combines a petrol engine with an electric motor, allowing the vehicle to run on electric power alone at low speeds, such as during city driving or when coasting. This results in lower fuel consumption, making it an economical option for both urban and rural settings. For drivers in Peebles, this means fewer trips to the petrol station and more savings in the long run.
Advanced Hybrid Technology
The Honda HR-V Hybrid is equipped with a sophisticated hybrid system that seamlessly transitions between the petrol engine and electric motor, ensuring smooth and efficient performance. The system is designed to maximize energy regeneration during braking, which charges the battery and extends the electric range. This innovative technology not only enhances fuel efficiency but also reduces emissions, making the HR-V Hybrid a great choice for environmentally conscious drivers.
Spacious and Versatile Interior
Despite its compact size, the Honda HR-V Hybrid offers a surprisingly spacious and versatile interior, making it a practical choice for families and active individuals alike. The rear Magic Seats can be configured in multiple ways, allowing for easy transport of large items or providing extra legroom for passengers. Whether you're heading out for a weekend adventure in the Scottish Borders or simply running errands around Peebles, the HR-V Hybrid has the flexibility to accommodate your needs.
Comfort and Convenience Features
The Honda HR-V Hybrid is designed with driver and passenger comfort in mind. The interior is well-appointed with high-quality materials, ergonomic seating, and a host of modern conveniences. The dual-zone climate control ensures a comfortable cabin environment, while the intuitive infotainment system keeps you connected on the go. For drivers in Peebles, these features make every journey, whether short or long, a pleasant experience.
Safety First
Safety is a top priority for many drivers, and the Honda HR-V Hybrid does not disappoint in this regard. The vehicle is equipped with a range of advanced safety features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking. These systems work together to provide an extra layer of protection, giving you peace of mind on the road. Whether you’re navigating the narrow country lanes of Peebles or cruising on the motorway, the HR-V Hybrid’s safety features are designed to keep you and your passengers safe.
Stylish Design
The Honda HR-V Hybrid is not only functional but also stylish. Its sleek, aerodynamic design is both eye-catching and practical, helping to reduce drag and improve fuel efficiency. The bold front grille, sharp LED headlights, and sculpted body lines give the HR-V Hybrid a modern and dynamic appearance that stands out on the roads of Peebles. Inside, the clean and minimalist design is complemented by a high driving position, providing excellent visibility and a commanding view of the road.
Eco-Friendly Driving in Peebles
For those living in Peebles, the Honda HR-V Hybrid is an excellent choice for navigating the town's picturesque streets and surrounding countryside. The vehicle’s compact size makes it easy to manoeuvre through narrow lanes, while its hybrid powertrain ensures you’re doing your part to protect the environment. Peebles is known for its commitment to sustainability, and driving a Honda HR-V Hybrid aligns with the town's eco-friendly ethos. Whether you're exploring the local parks, visiting nearby attractions, or simply commuting to work, the HR-V Hybrid offers a responsible and enjoyable driving experience.
Lower Emissions, Greater Impact
One of the key benefits of driving the Honda HR-V Hybrid is its reduced emissions compared to traditional petrol or diesel vehicles. The hybrid system helps to lower CO2 emissions, which is crucial in the fight against climate change. By choosing the HR-V Hybrid, drivers in Peebles can contribute to a cleaner environment and help preserve the natural beauty of the Scottish Borders for future generations. Lower emissions also mean that the HR-V Hybrid is eligible for various tax incentives and exemptions, further enhancing its appeal as an eco-friendly choice.
A Smart Investment
In addition to its environmental benefits, the Honda HR-V Hybrid is also a smart financial investment. Hybrid vehicles tend to have higher resale values compared to conventional cars, thanks to their fuel efficiency and lower running costs. The HR-V Hybrid’s reputation for reliability and longevity means that you can enjoy years of trouble-free driving, making it a cost-effective choice in the long term. For drivers in Peebles, investing in a Honda HR-V Hybrid is not just a decision for today but a commitment to a more sustainable future.
Conclusion
The Honda HR-V Hybrid is the perfect vehicle for eco-conscious drivers in Peebles who are looking for a reliable, efficient, and stylish car that aligns with their values.
