Hi!! How are you? It's been a while since I've sent you an ask (but I'm always lurking on your blog here, I love it too much to stay away!) but I just HAVE to ask if you're familiar with a character named Duke Igthorn? He's from an old Disney show from the 1980s about magical bears set in the medieval era. It's a pretty basic 80's fantasy adventure cartoon but the main villain Igthorn is SOOO so entertaining and basically THE antithesis of "goofy cartoon villain that is a threat but ultimately gets defeated in a silly goofy way". He's right up both of our ally's (and he strikes a remarkable resemblance to Captain Hook), so I thought I'd mention him to you, just to see if you maybe recognize him. Have a lovely day, cheers!

I thought it was time to share another full piece! I've been having a lot of fun drawing tickling revenge scenarios where infamous ticklers from mainstream cartoon scenes get what's coming to them. Duke Igthorn was high on my list when I came up with his idea. I always found him sexy and I just knew he wouldn't be able to take his own medicine...THE FEATHER! Been thinking about Aurora again in my "y'all referenced Gummi Bears but wouldn't take ten minutes to consider the LORE IMPLICATIONS" brainrot moments and here's a list of DT17 timeline gummi headcanons I came up with because I decided to make a gummi bear oc 84 years ago.

The royals at Dunwyn Castle were canine. More specifically, King Gregor and Princess Calla were land spaniels, a group of dogs which contained the predecessor to the modern English cocker spaniel. The knights, servants, and peasants were various other dog breeds.

The ones shown interacting with the gummis were King Gregor's advisors, hence them being birds and not canine.

Cavin was a fox.

Duke Igthorn was a Talbot hound, considered the predecessor to the beagle. Could be a family connection there!

Ogres absolutely existed, and still do exist, in the woods near the ruins of the castle. Most people will never see one; they largely stay hidden since no gummis live in the glen anymore.

Gummi names (like Grammi, Gruffi, Cubbi, etc) were largely nicknames. Zummi in particular was a title, given to the current high gummi wizard. Aurora is the modern Zummi!

Gummis did not give their names to anyone outside of other gummis; it was considered bad luck.

Gummi Glen, as opposed to being just the tree, is a massive old growth forest protected by the crown as a cultural site, largely because it's protected by magic.

Deep underneath the central tree in the glen is an underground stream that feeds into a cave, holding the tombs of all the ancient gummis.

Gummi magic smells like berries, and it typically varies depending on the gummi. Aurora's magic, for example, smells like blueberries.

They are inherently magical creatures, but not all gummis can learn to do gummi magic. They're just creatures inherently made of magic.

There's a lot more variations to gummi berry juice than just the bouncy kind. While she's relearning ancient gummi magic, Aurora figures out a blend that can make a user temporarily invisible and one that allows temporary flight.

Gummi magic is emotion based, and most powerful when cast out of joy and happiness.

There's probably more but I can't think of any so uh. Ask me if you would like I guess?

Sometimes it astounds me to remember

that Michael Eisner, riding high on the success of Who framed Roger Rabbit and the little mermaid (and possibly cocaine), went and licensed the gummi bears candy because his kid asked for it once, and some disney artist had to make... a WORLD around that, so they lifted designs from their failed feature The Black Cauldron, the tolkienist idea of the elves as a vanished superior race (made em into bears) and aired that on television for several years, but when they retconned chip and dale as clothes wearing pilots, THAT was a bridge too far for me.  I mean, what if Eisner’s kid had asked for Nerds?  Or Runts?

*Both have a respective “good” brother

*Both have incompetent beast-like henchmen

*Both are in an on-again off-again relationship with a black magic using sorceress

*Similar clothes and color scheme

*Frequently tries and fails to conquer a castle and obtain forbidden knowledge

And now, for No Reason At All, family theories of Disney.

Theory the First- Duke Igthorn is the ancestor of Captain Hook.

Both are dark haired men with very, very similar facial features, and Igthorn’s voice even sounds a bit like a lighter version of Hook’s- to say nothing of the both of them being quite fierce on paper while not exactly measuring up to what you’d expect from a medieval warlord and a pirate captain, yet not really HARMLESS either. 

Assuming of course Gummi Bears takes place on ‘our’ world and isn’t simply a ficticious, Europe-esque fantasy land. 

Seriously though, look at them- its almost uncanny.

Colonel Staquait from Tarzan is a descendant of Jafar from Aladdin-

Staquait is a lot burlier than ol’ Jafar, but its hard to deny that there’s a strong visual resemblance between the two. While Jafar having any descendants of all is even less likely than Igthorn, try to recall that there’s nothing that says all descendants come about from marriage. 

Moving on from THAT mental image, one must also note that Staquait is visibly a bit darker than other Europeans that we see-

Now granted, he’s a commander in the French Foreign Legion and runs a prison in the desert, so it’s easy to infer that its merely an outdoorsman’s tan. All the same, it wouldn’t exactly be improbable to suggest that he is in fact descended from any number of Middle Eastern peoples who fell under French dominion during the time period in which Tarzan takes place. 

Seriously, they even have the same kind of *mustache*. 

Aand that’s that. There is no purpose behind this, I just wanted to share a Silly Thought.

Season 1 Episode 1 - A New Beginning

"Cavin, a 12-year-old squire and knight-in-training in the Dunwyn Kingdom, is left in the woods after a group of ogres run off his human allies. There, he stumbles into the home of the fabled Gummi Bears while trying to find his Great Gummi Medallion, which was left to him by his grandfather who is a respected knight in Dunwyn Castle. When learning of an incoming attack by Duke Igthorn, Dunwyn's disgraced knight turned traitor, Cavin must convince his new friends to help stop this enemy while promising to keep the Gummies' existence a secret."
