Need inspiration for art, you say?…
Tarzan!Freyja.
And the “Jane” she carries over her shoulder is either Chester, Roger, Duncan, or Barnaby.
Chester: bruh why is he even here he’s the equivalent of an accountant jk jk he would probably be the closest equivalent to Jane, but more susceptible to fainting spells from the heat. Freyja found him after one such spell and takes him to her treehouse or tree to recover. Would have the most Tarzan/Milo x Jane/Kida dynamic with Freyja, maybe.
Roger: read all of the adventure/swashbuckling books and somehow thought that was enough knowledge to go exploring himself. Prepared for the likely scenario of finding and rescuing a delicate native damsel in distress from a dangerous jaguar. Not so prepared for being on the run from an angry family/army of baboons, and even less so for being rescued by a capable, amazonian young woman. Freyja is confused and slightly annoyed by how this guy keeps getting into trouble (totally not staging scenarios in which he can rescue her only for something to go wrong and needing to be rescued instead, again)
Duncan: his parents were probably explorers that found and rescued Jacob and brought him home to be a playmate to Duncan, not realizing J was separated from his sister. Years later, Jacob and Duncan return to the Jungle in Africa because the former had a gut feeling his sister was still alive. What were the chances that his grumpy, grumbling best friend would be the one who would find —well, be found by— the long lost little sister? A…slightly-taller-and-slightly-buffer-than-he-was little sister? No Jacob, he is not blushing he is flushed from the heat thank you very much.
Barnaby: he came for the animals, obviously. Freyja stopped him from hugging an angry gorilla. He adopted her as a new friend.
so … orphans Jacob and Freyja got separated in the African jungle as children, where unbeknownst to Freyja, Jacob got taken back to the UK. Freyja remained in the jungle a little while alone until she was found by missionaries. They managed to keep her “tame and civilised” until age 14 or so when she escaped back to the jungle, and has been there at least a decade.
Having no desire to leave the jungle until she finds Jacob, she puts up a hostile front to any people who wander through her part of the jungle. People pass through occasionally, either
by accident (Chester)
Tumblr media
((in which case she is more likely to give them safe passage in exchange for their promise to discourage others from coming through that part of the jungle. “There’s a demon living out there! I barely got away with my life!”))
from curiosity (Roger)
Tumblr media
the curious ones are more dangerous in Freyja’s opinion. They’re more likely to try and “re-educate her” and “bring her back to civilisation” to “fulfil her natural role” as some have attempted to do in the past. It didn’t end well for them.
or a little bit of both (Barnaby)
Tumblr media
some friendly people have come through Freyja’s part of the jungle in the past 10 years, and have gifted knowledge on self defence/trapping and items like books/material. Other items she acquired by simply looting. So by the time Jacob drags Duncan to the other side of the world to find his long-lost sister, she is more than capable of defending herself against strangers.

In my au Stanley (narrow gauge) has a special interest in insects (I hc him as being into animals, they don’t judge you for your “jinx” and he’s got a soft spot for critters that are seen as “bad luck”) and tends to blurt out the most detailed information, he often info-dumps with and to Nia who encourages it cause it makes him happy once he’s freed from his “jinx” and she know every single insect name alphabetically along with their scientific names and nicknames Here we have Duke immediately regretting asking them if they can name every single species and ends up sleeping when they’re engrossed in their conversation before leaving when they were in the mid section of the e category (Nia gave him “the disappointment older sister look” awhile back so the poor guy can trapped there and wondered how did he got ever himself into this situation)
Basically it’s just Stanley to Duke in alphabetical order: Alderflies Angel Insects Anoplura (Sucking lice) Ants Antlions Aphids Archeognatha (Bristletails) Barklice Bees Beetles Bird lice Biting lice Blattodea (Cockroaches) Booklice Bristletails Bugs Butterflies Caddisflies Chewing lice Cicadas Cockroaches Coleoptera (Beetles) Collembola (Springtails) Crickets Damselflies Diplura Diptera (Flies) Dobsonflies Dragonflies-
Nia joining in cause she was mad at Duke: ah yes the alderfly which are megalopteran insects of the family Sialidae. They are closely related to the dobsonflies and fishflies as well as to the prehistoric Euchauliodidae. All living alderflies – about 66 species all together are part of the subfamily Sialinae, which contains nine extant genera. Sialinae have a body length of less than 25 mm (1 inch), long filamentous antennae, and four large dark wings of which the anterior pair is slightly longer than the posterior. They lack ocelli and their fourth tarsal segment is dilated and deeply bilobed. Dead alderfly larvae are used as bait in fishing-
duke:shooketh (Nia’s is basically the train version of a encyclopedia also her design is based off of MrTerrier673 on Twitter)

Savannah and Gigi are basically Libby and Avery in The Brothers Hawthorne. Savannah is the older sister (Libby) in a toxic/abusive relationship with a guy, Duncan (Drake), who is unworthy of her and Gigi is the younger sister (Avery) seeing all the warning signs that she’s getting hurt and wants her to break up with him. There’s also someone new who comes into their lives, Grayson (Nash), to help through the trauma. The only thing is, Sav hasn’t broken up yet with Duncan and Gigi and Gray haven’t managed to corner her about that yet while Libby is healing and happily engaged to her new man with Avery happy to have a good future brother-in-law. Also, this is indirectly a warning to avoid guys with names that start with D, if you couldn’t tell😆(that is a joke of course, there are plenty of good men with D names, I’m sure).
Kudos to @ariscats for inspiring this post from an old one of hers where she was talking about Drake indirectly harassing Avery.

there’s this old post that’s a comment on the movie the prince of egypt, the scene where moses kisses tzipporah as she’s sleeping and someone said you can tell whoever animated it had been in love before because of how well they capture the feeling in just a few seconds. i feel similar about george & siblings - sometimes i’m reading and i think “this is a man who adores his sisters” ya know.
i was thinking of that a lot while reading dunk & egg, bc the main series goes more into the painful sides of being a sibling - doran’s grief over being the oldest yet the only one still alive, the repeated “promise me ned” haunting ned his entire life, sansa & arya constantly thinking around each other bc thinking of each other is too painful, dany’s dream of viserys in adwd, and jon’s “what do you know of my heart” and the snowflakes melting in robb’s hair are all some of the most heart breaking moments for me because i can feel how much they long for home and home isn’t a place it’s each other, the pain & longing they feel will never ease because the bond between siblings is so unique it can’t be replaced so you just carry this heavy pain around forever.
but dunk & egg…dunk threatens to clout egg like twice every page but he never does it. egg is always talking back but whenever he sees dunk is serious, he bites his tongue and glowers “as only eleven year olds can.” egg insists on being a taste taster for dunk (a prince, a man who will one day be king, insisting that he doesn’t trust any of these shouty bitches & eating everything before dunk does to protect his bastard born, base born, hedge knight big brother like). dunk is always whinging on at egg like some beleaguered, put upon oldest brother and egg fires back immediately with something stupid. “i don’t want to taste your feet in my food” “well your food sucks shit my feet would only make it taste better.”
dunk says when he was a kid he used to chase scrawny little boys around but was told to stop because sometimes little boys have big brothers. and sometimes little kings have big brothers too!

Okay, this is a random one, but am I the only one who could see Duncan being kind of a protective older brother figure to Dawn? I don't know why I'm so fixated on this thought, but it just makes sense in my head idk

So I once made a funny shit post about the Young Wizard actually beaming to the Spiral at the tender age of 45 but it got me thinking of the opposite. What if the Wizard was incredibly young
Since in the game it isn't specified at what exact age we arrived in the Spiral I think it's just up to the player to come up with that part. I personally like to think The Wizard was around 7 or 8 when this happened but what if they were actually like four or five years old
Like shieeeet that's young enough where we wouldn't really remember our time on Earth very clearly right? Our family and maybe our friends but unless we had like ungodly memory powers, we wouldn't be able to remember all of the details of our original home. Like isn't it proven that human beings first gain self and special awareness at 3 or 4? Something like that
And this can open up for some sweet scenarios - little kid Wizard running up to Malorn with a scribbled drawing of him with a big smile on his face, or us and Ceren reading picture books together or clinging onto Nolan's robes as we attempt to stand on his feet as he walks like a penguin, but there's also this sad and messed up undertone that in this universe Ambrose took what was essentially a child just out of toddler stage and decided to keep them in the Spiral instead of returning them to their family
And like imagine how that would affect us. We would see it as normal at first because we grew up in the Spiral, we spent more years in the wizard world than in our home on Earth, but what if the Wizard gained awareness later on in life and actually realized what happened. Would they even care at that point because the Spiral was integrated in them at such a young age? Would they feel any yearning towards their original family, would they miss them at all? Would the Wizard be bitter about not getting to know them?
It's different when you're 7 - 10 and onwards because at that stage in your life you've more than gotten used to Earth life. You've gained awareness and it has been emotionally and mentally established that THIS (Earth) is your home. You know your parents and you know your friends and you know your environment. You will miss that when it's gone and feel it's absence because you're old enough to at least notice when you're taken away from it. But when you're still at that impressionable and oblivious stage of like 4 - 6 years old? The Spiral is all you know now. Your parents faces will be blurry, you may not even remember the details of what your home looked like. You may remember certain smells, colors or feelings you experienced when you were on Earth but that may be about it. And the saddest part about that is depending on what Ambrose and the other adults put our Wizard through, we may grow to completely forget even those essential memories. That Earth part of us would TOTALLY be gone and that would include even our parents (or other caretakers). I'm crying actually

Mal was sooooo insane for this, their first mission with him and he decides that the best choice of action was to launch himself into space FOREVER in a hero-suicide (?) move on a supposed-to-be unmanned spaceship that is going to be going into space and never returning, like ???? Insane behaviour
