Pre-2000s movie protagonists if they were made today (in my opinion):
Patrick Bateman would be a cryptobro
Ferris Bueller would be a YouTuber/podcaster
Sarah Connor (as of Terminator 1) would be a Swiftie (I can’t really justify this one, I just got the vibe lol) / The Terminator would be played by Dwayne Johnson
Marty McFly would either be played by Tom Holland or Timothee Chalamet
Claire Standish would be a beauty guru on YouTube / Allison Reynolds would be the cool girl who either everyone has a crush on or wants to be
Kevin McCallister would be a Fortnite player
Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar would be YouTubers (specifically either Smosh or Rhett & Link)
Annie Wilkes would be terminally online and have a Twitter, Reddit, DeviantArt, and Tumblr account
John McClane would be played by David Harbour
Alan “Dutch” Schaefer would be an Iraq War and Afghanistan veteran. Also, Predator takes place somewhere in the Middle East.
John Rambo would also be an Iraq War veteran and there’d be some sort of police brutality protest subplot in the movie (at least some form of commentary that references BLM)
Either Johnny Castle gets cancelled or Frances "Baby" Houseman is aged up to be in her mid-20s
Bill and Ted would be prank YouTubers or the guys from Dude Perfect
(Feel free to add to the list)

Knowing that Anna was fairly aware of the Predator’s existence as a generational boogeyman really changes how you see her actions throughout the film. As does her knowing English (I need to rewatch the movie from Anna’s developing perspective), and knowing that the Predator relied on chameleon camouflage rather than the jungle just ‘coming alive’. Given her obviously communist leanings, it’s clear Anna was understandably trying to get the others killed by the Predator so she could escape.
But when she decides that her own life might be at stake as well, she relents; Though I wonder if Anna also changed her mind on the protagonists and became more sympathetic after learning about them more. Maybe she even had a desire to avenge all of the men of her village that the Predator killed? It might explain why she doesn’t just ditch Dutch and Poncho once he explains that Anna is safe because she’s unarmed and thus ‘no sport’. Or maybe she was too busy panicking at the moment to think clearly and remind herself; Oh yeah I guess I have no reason to help these guys anymore. I don’t need them, if anything they’re liabilities! Maybe Anna thought she needed at least one of them to vouch for her to the chopper team.
It’s telling that while Anna and the women in her village knew of the Predator for generations, it’s Dutch who puts together pretty quickly what its motives are. Obviously he has the benefit of actually being its quarry, but I guess it lends more credence to my interpretation of the Predator as a dark reflection to the guys; Dutch knows firsthand how men like the Yautja think. Men like that may have been part of his reason for leaving the military, and/or he can get into its prideful head; He clearly has an appreciation for good sport himself, given his introductory arm wrestling with Dillon.

I wish there was discourse about the Right™ Way to watch the Alien movies, to the same degree as how Star Wars fans all have their own opinions on the correct order to watch the movies.
Like, release order or in-universe chronological? Do you include the AVP movies? What about Predator??
My best estimation of the timeline is:
> Prometheus (2012) (opening sequence only)
> Prey (2022)
> Predator (1987)
> Predator 2 (1990)
> Alien vs Predator (2004)
> Alien vs Predator: Requiem (2007)
> Predators (2010) (this one may be contentious as there are a few contradictory statements floating around. It's generally accepted to take place in the year of release.)
> The Predator (2018)
> Prometheus (2012) (the rest of the movie)
> Alien: Covenant (2017)
> Alien (1979)
> Aliens (1986)
> Alien³ (1992)
> Alien: Resurrection (1997)
But let's be real, that makes for a pretty crappy watch order.

🔥The Nomad Clan: Crimson Jungle🔥
Tumblr media
((Shout out to @shaymin-99 for allowing me to use their Human OC to make a Crossover Story of their Soldier OC & my Predator OC (Nomad). I hope you all enjoy^^ ))
The roaring sound of two RNZAF Chopper echoed through the jungle of the Pacific Islands, inside where men and women armed to the teeth as their overshadowed the glow of a red light. They were a special forces team sent for a rescue and gathering intel of what happened to a friendlies outpost, but the chopper was filled with mistrust at the hand of 1 member. In the corner of the chopper was a women in a marine black hat, grey tank top, blue jeans, and a spoon dangling from her hip. The women was messing with her signature sniper with talley marks and odd stains, all while smoking a cheap cigarette.
The team before her usually worked alone, however due to recent strange activities, she was sent along to make sure the mission goes smoothly. She was viewed as stranger and the yellow eyes didn’t help her case, one of the squad members made a bet and threw an empty bullet shell at the Recon Sniper. The deft riflewomen responded by catching it, and glaring with her yellow eye sending chills to the young squad member. The red light that shined over the Squad quickly flashed to green, signaling they arrived at their destination. One by one the squad dropped from the helicopters, having their airborne boots land in sea water and sand.
A total of 8 soldiers including the mystery women with a dog tag saying the code name “Shay”. The squad would run into the jungle, brushing through many bushes, trees, and vines filled with wildlife that hissed or snarled at them but did not dare to attack. While traversing the jungle, finding many burn marks of nothing the squad can say caused it, as well as hints of what happened to the friendlies on the island, they ran into a clearing in the jungle. The leader of the group wanted to keep moving forward, however Shay quickly pulled the Leader off his feet and to the ground.
Swears were thrown freely with anger and venom, but Shay didn’t let it faze her as she knelt down to where the leader was about to step. Huffing her cigarette and softly blowing down, revealing a red like laser moving around the clearing. The squad was astounded and shocked by this scene, and to further prove her point Shay threw the empty shell to the clearing. To which activated a strange bear trap snapping shut with force to dismemberment.
Squad Member: “Never knew the locals could be so hostile and territorial.”
Shay: “Not local…their just visiting.”
Leader: “Alright! Who the hell are yo-“
As quick as the Leaders temper was to boil was as quickly as his head exploded infront of the group, to which they quickly set a kill circle trying to find where the attack came from. The medic of the squad checked the Leader to confirm he was no longer alive, just as that was confirmed a Sargent believed they saw something and opened fired. The attack was shortly cut when firing deep into the jungle as their chest was speared, sending them off their feet and into the still active bear trap field. Only red like water bursted from the body was seen as the body was absolutely ripped to shreds. A Private that was losing their cool and panicking tried making a run for it, fumbling with their radio but freezed standing still. The squad watched as the Private bled from their mouth and was lifted into the air, the two marks from which the soldier bled revealed a blade from a blue electricity.
Shay quickly sprang to action aiming their sniper at the revealing threat, taking a couple of pop shots. However the figure quickly used the body of the Private as a meat shield, and when the creature was finally revealed covered in the blood of the Private, it gave a bone shaking roar. Shay took this last shot to pop the creature in the face, only angering the creature as it was revealed to be wearing a strange helmet and charged at the Soldiers. Continuing to use the soldier as a shield and threw what remained at the humans who held the triggers of their weapons, the creature with bones on its person and the dog tags jiggling on his neck it, hacked and slashed at the Fireteam. With her first order, Shay screamed “Fall Back” and cover fired the Fireteam that would listen.
Those who stayed behind met the same fate as their Leader, the remainder of the Fireteam ran with Shay made it to the friendly base…but there was nothing left. Buildings were burning, bodies were skinned and left hung over the burning buildings and the floor was covered in mud and blood. One of the buildings that was intact however was used to hide the remaining members which were only two, a Medic & and Lieutenant of the Fireteam.
Medic: “What was that thing?! It wasn’t human…IT WASN’T HUMAN! This whole mission is fucked!”
Lieutenant: “But she knows…why else would she put her on THIS squad.”
Shay: “Is there something you wanna say boyscout?”
Lieutenant: “Yeah I do! This mission was never about rescue, it was a capture and secure for that…that fucking thing! We where expendable from the start” -shoved Shay-
Shay: -In response would hip toss and hold the Lieutenant down while inches away was her sharp spoon looming over his eye- “WE ARE ALL EXPENDABLE! Even me, I’ve been on 3 missions like these and all of them are the same! Whether you die or not is not my problem, but I’m here to clean up a mess and make sure no more blood is shed. That thing is a Predator, and they come here to kill humans like us who are looking for trouble.”
Medic: “So how do we stop it?”
Shay: -looks at the medic and shoved the Lt. down- “Simple we kill it, aim for the parts that aren’t covered in armor.”
The Lieutenant gave a glare not liking how she made it sound easy, Shay offered her hand to which the Solider swatted away. The Medic was sitting at a desk and fiddle with his materials, but before the group could form a game plan a loud THUD was heard on the roof of the shelter they were in. Shay made a motion on to be quiet, they heard the same clicks from the creature that tore apart their team, but this one was almost higher pitch. It scanned the area before leaving a dent from the force the jumped on the roof, as it jumped to other structures and finally the forest from which it came.
Shay looked at the Lt. and immediately grabbed her rifle, making her way in the direction of the invisible creature. The Lt. left with her leaving the medic behind as he tried to contact HQ. Upon following the crazed deft sniper, he was quickly snatched down to the floor next to a jungle tree root. The Lt. looked at the hand that pulled him down to meet Shays stern look, watching through her scope as she slowly pointed toward the direction she was aiming. It took the Lt. a moment to realize what he was looking at, it was as clear as day when he saw a barely invisible or camouflaged figure in a tree. It was watching or scanning for something, but based on the figure the creature was skinner and smaller than the creature they originally ran into.
This “Predator” that Shay called em was almost mesmerizing to look at when they’re not trying to snap the squads neck, it moved with both purpose and animal like. Shay whispered how on the other 3 missions she’s never ran into more then 1 Predator, how this one she was looking through must be a younger Hunter, how he might be listening to our very conversation. She readied her sniper with a click of her rifle as she put in a strange glowing bullet, the creature snapped their head towards our location and flashed its golden like eyes. Shay gave a devilish small as she breathed the words “Bingo Fucker” to then shoot her shot. The Lt. saw a flash of blue as the creature roared in pain, falling out the tree and towards the jungle floor.
She almost seemed excited as she ran towards the direction of the fallen Predator, the Lt. had their rifle readied. When reaching the location, there was a mask of bronze with black warpaint and judging from Shays excellent shot the mask was half broken. She gave a growl of frustration, kicking the dirt but picking up the mask and strapping it to their side. The Lt. called her over to show a strange glowing substance, when asking what it was she gave the same devilish smile with excitement as she replied:
Shay: “Their Blood…it’s wounded and we can track it! Come on boy scout! This hunt isn’t over yet, maybe it’s crawling to it’s master!”
She said as she ran towards the direction the neon green blood glowed, the Lt. followed behind, seeing as the jungle started to turn into hot stone. The blood stopped on the edge of the jungle to a volcano, that must have been where the creatures have been living. The Lt. tried having Shay to pull back for now we know where they lived and we could use it to our advantage, but one look at her eyes told that wouldn’t be the case, she wanted to end this here and now.
The Lt. sighed in frustration as he was about to leave her, till he saw the nightmare inducing 3 red glowing dots. Out of instinct he tackled her to the ground as a roaring blue fireball of energy flew over their heads, they both looked behind them to see the bigger Predator. The two humans then began to run towards the volcano, Shay gave the order to split up and have him go back to the medic while she finishes this. The Lt. only nodded as he ran back into the jungle, the Predator was about to make a B-line for the Lt., but Shay used her pistol and fired upon the huge target. Even with direct hits, the Predator only growled as it turned towards Shay with glowing red eyes. She continued to fire upon it as she led the creature to a cave of the volcano.
-Shay’s POV-
I began to run through the maze of the cave, for the deeper I went the hotter it became. I felt as my dog tag began to heat up so much it felt as though I was being branded by a hot piece of iron, I felt my heart picking up speed as I listened to it best through my deft ears and suddenly I stopped at a cliff side looking over the semi active volcano. I gulped as looked behind me to see a glowing blue ball of death trying to hit me, I ducked down having it pass over again allowing it to hit the wall of the volcano rock, seeing as it crumbled and hit the floor of the shell keeping the lava from escaping. When looking back I saw a foot that kicked me in the stomach, knocking the wind out of me and sending me down the volcano floor or at least a piece that wasn’t connected to the lava. I groaned as I layed on my back and looking up at how far I fell, I then saw the Predator jump from the cave entrance to the floor. It created such a shake that it cracked the volcano crust floor, now having Lava begin to rumble.
The Yautja growled as it walked towards me, I began to panic as I crawled to grab my rifle. It was only finger tips away as the Predator kicked it into the lava, I saw my weapon begin to burn and melt. I quickly turned towards my attacker to feel my throat begin to tighten, it held me down before pulling me up towards its eyes. It was as if it was examining my skull, but it suspiciously cocked its head to the side seeing the bronze Biomask. I slowly reached for my spoon knife, holding the grip ever so tightly ready to strike but a noise came from the Biomask on my hip (to which I couldn’t hear but the Predator reacted), various clicks and my voice sounding as a recording spoke saying… “Bingo Fucker” with various screams, human screams echoing through the volcano. The creature began to look around almost anxious wondering what was happening, I just managed to get away as a flashing grey object flew between my face and the arm of the Predator, hearing a sickening CRACK of bones breaking making the Yautja roar and throwing me across towards the wall of the volcano.
I was struggling for air as I looked up at the Yautja roaring and holding its broken arm in pain, and seeing a odd looking sledge hammer of a weapon but my vision was soon blocked by something else. A Predator, the one I was hunting, covered in wood armor & bone trophies with Red Skin and brown goldish stripes stood in front of me growling towards the other Predator. I may have not known what they were saying but I knew beef when I see one, and nothing more obvious then when the wooden armor one showed a hologram of the Predator across from him, as if it was a bounty poster. I watched as the two then began to charge at one another, punching, scratching and kicking trying to get the upper hand. It was like watching a wolf fight a bear but the smaller one was holding his own, his strength was almost on par with the bigger one. I crawled to the side seeing my pistol, quickly I grabbed it but when taking aim…I didn’t know who to shoot first.
The bigger one eventually got the upper hand as it head butted the exposed red Yautja’s skull and threw him away to get air, I then knew the bigger threat as I began unload my clip at the big Predator. Watching as it backed up from the impact and towards the Lava, it was almost as if the Red Predator and I locked eyes and understood what must be done. We stood almost together with him summoning his hammer weapon with the help of his strange gauntlet, it clicked with amusement holding the weapon that broke the bigger Predators arm. As we then both charged at the bigger threat, I was the one shooting when there was a opening while the red one was the bruiser, breaking down all the Yautja’s defenses. However this angered the bigger Predator so much it entered a berserker like state.
Grabbing the smaller red ones neck and started to choke him out, trying to force him into the lava. That was till I jumped on its back and began stabbing it with my spoon like knife, landing one lucky strike into its eye. A screech of pain escaped its mandibles as it threw the small red Yautja into the lava, I looked on shocked knowing I was next as the bigger Predator grabbed my shirt and used it to throw me down to the floor! I bounced from the sheer force, when I tried to get up and get the gun that fell out of my hands he stomped on my leg completely breaking it. It was like no other pain I’ve ever felt as I cried trying to get him off, it slowly began forcing its leg on my chest and ever so steadily began to apply pressure.
I didn’t want this to be my end, I clawed and punched the it’s leg. I could feel one by one my ribs snapping, that was till we both felt a rumble and from what I could see was a glowing red hand reach from the lava and grab the Predators calf! The sizzling sound of its flesh burning and the smell, was indescribable as it slowly dragged the Big Predator towards the lava pit, I saw it screaming and clawing for life as it was slowly dragged to what looked like the entrance of hell. As he was halfway in another hand reached out and grabbed the Predators face watching as it used the spoon to drag the killer down fully into the lava.
I curled up into a ball of pain, trying to stay conscious but was too tired to. I felt my eyes ever so slightly close, seeing through my dark blurry vision of the small Red Predator crawling out the lava with the burnt skeletal remains of what was left of the one that killed the squad I was on. I would bounce in and out of consciousness as I saw the Predator walking towards me, to him carrying me while I watched the volcano erupted. When I did finally awake fully, I found myself on a iron like table, contraptions that were hooked up to me and machines moving around. I instinctively ripped the stuff off of me and looked around, nothing on the United States Military looked like anything this advanced.
I looked at a table that had my stuff, my melted down useless Sniper Rifle, a pistol with no ammo, and a charred Spoon Knife. Painfully I took the knife and found a airway system vent. Crawling inside I began making my way to what I believe is some sort of ship, when getting out I found myself in some sort of room. A bed covered in furr, a wall full of skulls of things I’ve never even dreamed to see, and the bio mask of a broken bronze mask with black warpaint. This…this was the Predators ship….but why am I alive?! The best I can do now is just stay hidden, this is new territory, and who knows I might learn something from this.
-Epilogue-
The Lt. from the mission of the Pacific Volcano Island was brought in to a dark room with one bright light. From what he could see was a dark figure with grey slicked back hair, but even from what looked like a senior old man he looked a body builder. This is possibly the only time the Lt. ran into this men in black bullshit.
???: Name Lieutenant?
Lt.: Uh…Rockerfella……Drew Rockerfella.
???: On April 24th you weren’t sent for a possible search and rescue but at the least to extract info from the base from the island….but from your report that’s sent the case was it?
Drew Rockerfella: “No…no it wasn’t…what we found was so worse…I’m the only survivor of the incident.”
The old figure leaned back against his chair and held a cigar, lighting it before blowing it in the Lt.‘s face as he leaned in for the light to see his face. The scars that covered the left side of his face as well as those dangerous eyes like Shay had, the ones of a hunter, a killer, I looked down at his name tag reading…”Dutch”.
Dutch: “Tell me more”

Also what the hell is Anna's story. Her presence in the communist camp, plus her immediate hostility towards our American protagonists, seems to indicate that she's a communist and was in fact allied with the Russians there as a local guide. I'd like to know more about that, and how she navigated being rescued by an American chopper; Did she get back home or not? She might respect Dutch and his comrades posthumously, a bit more if she learns they were duped and were otherwise disapproving of the U.S.’s interventionism. But it wouldn’t exactly work out in the long run given their conflicting politics.
For all their macho bravado that is itself deconstructed, Dutch's squad seems to have an implied backstory of their own as well; Dillon alludes to him and Dutch being veterans of Vietnam when he mentions Hue, not to mention Mac's recollection of his past with Blain. And the obvious callbacks to the Vietnam war with the jungle setting, Cold War U.S.-interventionism, an unseen threat that lacks numbers but manages to win by hiding in the trees and ambushing our protagonists this way. The triumph of 'primitive' traps made from the local environment, over advanced machinery and guns.
Dutch doing a caveman yell to summon the Predator in the film's climax seems a bit of a nod to the "savage" being the one who wins out over the "civilized" one. But for all the Predator's advanced technology, it is arguably more "savage," because what defines "savage," especially when you think of how the ‘first world’ U.S. killed so many on such a vast scale?
And that gets me to my point; Dutch insisting to Dillon that he and his team are not "assassins" has its connotations. Even when Dillon claims the group prevented a communist invasion, it's clear that Dutch's sympathies vanished when he found out the hostages weren't civilian politicians but CIA operatives who fucked around and found out. There's definitely a clear skepticism towards U.S. interventionism, and I feel it's implied that everyone in Dutch's squad became cynical of such things after participating in the Vietnam War and witnessing atrocities committed towards the locals.
Because the word "assassin" pretty clearly paints them as murderers, people who go after innocents; It's not just that they don't want to die in the grinder for people who don't care. It's that they don't want to kill either, not for an unjustified cause. Dutch's team obviously has their internalized biases and they did still quip as they slaughtered an entire camp, but I think it's worth considering that people like Mac and Blain probably left the military out of a moral stance against war crimes towards civilians. Plus Billy is Sioux, which should also be taken into account regarding his views on the U.S. and its military actions during the Cold War.
In the end though, all of the characters are tricked into killing communists in a jungle for U.S. Cold War interests, and die because of it. They are picked off by someone who hides in the trees and uses ambush to take them out; It's the Vietnam War all over again. The general who orchestrated all this appears at the end in the chopper, to remind you that like in real life he gets off scot-free because the incident with the Yautja and its murders doesn’t matter so long as those communists are dead; He is the real winner* when everyone else loses, and he sat away from the action all soft and cushy. So despite a lack of explicit references to it, you can really tell how the specter of Vietnam, and the public's skepticism towards the nation's global interests, hangs over the entire story.
*That is unless Anna shoved the prick out of the helicopter and to his death once the credits rolled.
