it started as a comic by Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill (it ran 1992-2020 I think?) whose thing was like, to make Both a parody of the superhero genre and a satire of the Victorian Adventure Novel wank (it’s racism it’s sexism how popular literature was used as a propaganda vehicle etc etc). The premise is that the British Empire needs to arrange a superhero team in the year of our lord 1899 and the “superheroes” are all literary characters who hate each other sooooo bad. It’s well written and thought provoking but Moore drops the ball hard on the satire and it circles back to unironic racism and sexism despite his intentions, also it’s full of gratuitous sexual violence lol. I don’t recommend them they suck soooo bad (now more seriously check them out if you can because the art is worth it mwah mwah but uh. Fair warning they’re not family friendly AT ALL like slurs are flung around like confetti you see dicks you see boobs you see racist caricatures you see gore galore etc). Also the literary characters are rather OOC so uh there’s that

It got a (rather loose) adaptation as a cheesy 2003 flick that has a HUGE pacing and tone problems (it’s an action romp filmed like a threatre play 💀 that says it all). it’s a long string of missed opportunities and the studio screwing them over. I LOVE IT though because the costumes the sets the practical sfx and most of all the ACTING (except for Sean Connery who wanted to die so bad) is GORGEOUS. It doesn’t follow the OG comic at all and Moore hates it sooooo much, but while the writing is much weaker and the dialogue sounds AI generated, it’s entertaining to watch ALSO it doesn’t have most of the comics flaws so CHECK IT OUT! This has been the LXG movie propaganda of today! Like ough. everybody hates the movie except for me and my friends… it simply irradiates bisexuality <- spoken like a true madman on my part

So like long story the LXG franchise as a whole is like half semi obscure pulp comics half cheesy movie and it’s all steampunk, it’s also Avengers but cynical and EDGYYYYYY and with literary characters instead of superheroes, the League isn’t found family it is the worlds most toxic gay polycule of ever 💚 the tumblr gothic literature crowd hates it with a hate boner worthy passion to the point of making a spite fueled collab writing project out of pissing on it because Moore doesn’t like Jonathan Harker also because Mr. Hyde is in it and he’s built like if the Hulk was British just like that 💚 I’d like to say “no explanation given” but actually there is one and it’s that taking innocent lives gives him power 💚💚💚 hee hee
