i know it's mostly on reddit but any complaints about Rayla being Callum's Light / One Truth instead of something else and/or her and Ezran is like. His love for Rayla is what led him to darkness (doing dark magic twice), she's the carrier of his destruction and salvation pattern in every single season, she's Aaravos' primary narrative foil, she's the one climbing out of his window haloed in Light and framed in light as a repeated motif even in arc 1, she's the one who's stargazing with him about Leola in S5 and being Looked at when he's saying "to find their way in the endless darkness of the night," and the one telling him / repeatedly representing him taking a different path in S4. You don't have to like it but there's 6 seasons of legwork that went into this scene and framing and dynamic. It was never going to Go anywhere else

one fun little thing about linguistics is that the stages speakers go through during their lives and the stages internet users go thru when integrating a new online community are actually quite similar.

so like, the first stage, broadly, when talking about language acquisition, a speaker starts with having no competence, but a huge receptiveness to the linguistic data around them. this is why babies learn to speak so fast. in online communities, a new comer won't have all the right vocab, they won't have learned/assimilated to the ways of "speaking"/communicating in the community, and can kinda easily be identified as like, not being from here (think of the way tumblr users can sometimes spot twitter migrants)

after learning the norms, and the basics of communication in a community, the speaker enters an adolescent phase. in irl speech communities, this is when someone's most receptive to new slang or linguistic innovations, but as these speakers grow up, the innovations become the standard. in online communities there's a very very similar adolescent phase (that has nothing to do with age, and just time spent in the community), where someone is fully integrated into the community and is in the centre of linguistic innovation for the community (often means coming up with new vocab, and sometimes can mean changes in other conventions like typing style, punctuation usages, etc.).

after the adolescent phase, in the adult phase, a speaker has a lot of linguistic competence (they can... speak... well... idk how else to describe it), but they are much more resistant to innovation, and hold on to the way that they spoke as a young person as being the objectively correct way to speak, looking down on the younger generation for their slang and their innovations. think of how boomers and gen x make fun of gen z slang. in online communities, i don't see this as being so much of conflictual relationship, but what is similar is that people that have been in online communities for extended periods of time will hold on to the way of communicating that was popular when they were in their adolescent phase, and won't be able to as easily adapt to the new ways of communicating, and this marks them as being an "elder", or long-time member, of the community.

the comparisons aren't always completely spot on, but there are enough parallels that i can have a lot of fun paying attention to this in the online communities that i'm a part of lol

it just hit me at 4:01am that Quentin Smith was a goth via music taste bcuz it's canon that he loves Joy Division and The Cure. Those are both goth bands. I have both loved and adored this character for like 2 or 3 years now. And this just hit me.

which doesn’t sound like the best outcome because he still wants them to just stay inside while he goes out and gets whatever they need — create some sort of dependency plus make sure reader is kept to himself— but !! A win is a win !!

And he doesn’t want to admit how quickly his entire resolve melts as soon as their hands touch his body and snake into his hair but he at least manages to mumble something about locks and keys before folding into the readers embrace which they (being the same one from the prompt —!) would respond by rubbing circles into his back and talking into his shoulder saying

“If that’s what you want,” with like such a nonchalant and Endeared voice as if he was asking to pick what they were eating rather than whether reader is allowed to leave the house by themselves or not,

YESSS OMG this is gonna be so fun to write omg, though you pretty much wrote all of it for me!! sorry I took a bit of a break; feeling some fandom fatigue (and I'm fixating on another fandom atm) but I'll try to get through all my requests!!

to put you in his perspective, when you leave his body goes into a full panic mode. his chest feels ice cold, like his blood has stopped circulating. he speeds through the apartment, knocking things down (strong or not, he still has a lot of power to send things to the floor, especially when he's frustrated.)

when you finally make it home, he's in hysterics. he's cried so hard he's gasping for air.

before you can ask if he's alright, he rushes toward you, grabbing your arms, keeping them forcefully at your sides, asking where you've been in such a loud panicked tone.

you are barely able to tell him you were simply on a late night grocery trip due to his frantic yelling. despite the yelling, you don't feel scared.

you're too busy comforting him to notice the locks are different. very different.

when you do, perhaps you think its a bit cute how he wants to lock you up...but he always forgets the brands you prefer. so to persuade him, you console him further. tell him you can both go next time...but he shakes his head.

despite you saying how it can be "like a date", he can't stand the thought of people looking at you. undressing you with their eyes.

gently caressing his arm, following the direction of moles as if connecting constellations, he can't help but soften up a little.

there's that other bit of johnny you love. the stammering one, the sweating one...your boyfriend.

"...w-well...um...maybe." he stammers out.

you know that answer will turn into a yes later...with a lot of work.

yall netflix does not hate tdp. most of their animated shows don't get a ton of marketing, even if they're related to dreamworks or a movie property (like has anyone else heard of "the croods" tv show that's been running for like 6 seasons?). promoting live action atla also likely has zero bearing on when tdp comes out - why on earth would they not have separate marketing departments / people handling distribution for live action kids media vs animated kids media, for starters? and because tdp is associated with atla through aaron, them putting so much behind natla (as much as i didn't like it as a show or an adaptation) and getting people reinvested into atla is like, a good thing for tdp?? adjacent marketing wise??

like let's just take a breath, 'our show' is not under attack and it's not being sidelined, this is seemingly the first time anything has been delayed, and most places have distribution quarters (for example, publishing has seasons where debuts vs series gets published), which means stuff is normally getting delayed by a few months when one does happen, not just by a couple of weeks. the season will come out like, maybe 3-4 months after it was originally supposed to, ur fine
