Tkachuk has ‘really special’ day bringing Stanley Cup home to St. Louis
Panthers forward visits first responders, children’s hospital with famed trophy
ST. LOUIS -- Matthew Tkachuk remembers visiting family in Boston, the first stop usually being the North End fire department where his grandfather, John Tkachuk, was the chief.
“We’d ride the pole, try the hat on, sometimes we’d go for a ride even though I don’t know if that’s allowed,” the Florida Panthers forward said with a laugh on Thursday. “It was super cool and anytime I see firemen, on duty or off, I always make sure to go say ‘Hi’.”
And when Tkachuk had his day with the Stanley Cup on Thursday, the Brentwood Fire Department, located about 15 minutes west of his hometown of St. Louis in Brentwood, Missouri, was one of the stops he definitely had to make.
It was an enjoyable day for Tkachuk, who had 61 points (24 goals, 37 assists) in 71 regular-season games and 22 points (six goals, 16 assists) in 24 Stanley Cup Playoff games to help the Panthers win their first Cup championship last month.
His time with the Cup actually began Wednesday, when he took it to lunch at Grassi’s Ristorante in Frontenac, Missouri, about 15 minutes west of St. Louis.
On Thursday he brought the Cup to his elementary school, Villa Duchesne in St. Louis, the St. Louis Children’s Hospital and the Brentwood police and fire departments.
“It’s been amazing," he said. "I’m trying to have that little mix of fitting everything I want possible in, but also want to enjoy it with those who are close to me. It’s been awesome so far and I’m sure the day’s going to continue to be awesome.”
There was no riding on the pole at the fire department this time, but Tkachuk did try on a fireman’s hat, saying that “it was a little snug. I’ve got a big head, but it was good.” He also took photos with the firemen and their families, displaying the Cup in the department and outside in front of one of the fire trucks.
Brentwood assistant fire chief Ed Beirne said when he told his staff that Tkachuk would be coming by with the Cup, “I didn’t think their eyes and mouths could open any wider.
“It’s an honor for us to actually be considered,” said Beirne, whose grandson, Faris, was placed in the Cup for one of the photos.
“Although we know the Tkachuk family is part of Brentwood, growing up around here, this is a massive effort to win the Cup. For them to remember and humble us by sharing his day with the Cup, I know he gets it for a short amount of time, but to share that time with us and then bring a lot of joy to the staff and family we were able to assemble, that is what’s really special about public safety and the NHL in general. It’s a family sport. All of us have played it, it’s a family, and this is a testament to that.”
When Tkachuk brought the Cup to the police department, he was joined by his immediate family, including brother Brady, captain of the Ottawa Senators, and father Keith, the former NHL forward who had 1,065 points (538 goals, 527 assists) in 1,201 games with the Winnipeg Jets, Phoenix Coyotes, Atlanta Thrashers and St. Louis Blues.
Brady was catching up with Matthew after some early-morning training.
“I can’t just be riding his coattails. Have to prepare for next season,” Brady said with a laugh.
“This is our childhood dream, just to see it up close and personal, to see how happy and genuinely excited and fulfilled and satisfied Matthew is, it’s amazing to see. It’s been awesome to see, and it’s definitely created that burning desire for me to provide that for my family and friends, too.”
Matthew took photos with individual officers and staff members, who were hesitant as they approached the Cup.
“Anybody that knows anything about hockey knows the Cup is sacred, so we’re scared to touch it,” Brentwood police chief Joseph Spiess Jr. said.
“The Tkachuk family has a strong presence in Brentwood. Not only do we get to protect them, but we get to share in their celebration, so it’s cool for us. Most of the people in this building are huge fans, sports generally, but hockey in particular.”
When the Vegas Golden Knights won the Cup in 2023, it marked the first time that names were engraved on the Cup prior to players and staff getting their respective days with it. It was something Matthew appreciated.
“It’s really special for my family. Years and years and years of hockey in our blood and for grandparents and extended family that come to my house and see that Tkachuk name on the Cup there, it’s truly such a special thing,” Matthew said.
The family had its own time with the Cup by midday Thursday. After bringing home some barbecue, Brady and Keith, along with Matthew’s sister, Taryn, mom Chantal and his fiancée, Ellie Connell, took turns taking a sip of beer out of it.
Tkachuk had already spent some quality time with the Cup. He and a few Panthers teammates brought it to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on June 25, the day after they defeated the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final. That day, they brought it to the Elbo Room, a bar near the beach, and Tkachuk carried the Cup into the Atlantic Ocean.
But there’s something special about bringing it back to your hometown.
“It hasn’t sunk in,” Keith said. “It’s been so much fun watching Matthew with the Cup with other people. That means more than winning, so it’s so cool. We’re pretty proud. He’s been around, grew up here, wants to be a part of it and he took it everywhere. Everybody’s loving it. We’re loving it.”

Concept art of SF6 World Tour characters from the “Street Fighter 6 World Guide” book. I got myself the kindle version because I heard from atgrbread that there’s one concept art pic of F.A.N.G. I wanted to see it so bad that I end up buying this…just for one little picture lol.
But look what I got here!
Characters include Bosch, Li-Fen, Alice, Carlos Miyamoto, Thrasher Damnd, Rudra, Kalima, Yua, Uou & Saouo, Punch, Rewancha, Retsu, Bao Bao Bro, R.O.B.B.I.E., Blanka-Chan, Mel Masters, Singing Wolf, Azam, Eternity,
And my favorite, F.A.N.G 💜💜
I post these here because hardly anyone goes to Tumblr lol.
Anyway, the book essentially contains information and images about the characters that are already present in the game. There’s a lot of behind the scenes content that was written. It’s all in Japanese, so I used Google translate to read it lol. The information was quite intriguing on how the characters were conceptualized, how the game was designed, and why some of the returning characters were chosen to be part of SF6.
Some interesting things:
- A.K.I. was going to be a charge character, but the nature of her moves proved to be too difficult, so they changed her to motion.
- One of the inspirations of creating JP was of villain Magnussen from the Sherlock series.
- Ed was a huge drive for creating Street Fighter 6. It is said that his character in SFV had a handsome aesthetic and is easy to use. He was popular amongst new players. And that was how World Tour was created—it was meant to draw in new audiences and players and to ease them into fighting games. Also SFV Ed was the predecessor for Modern controls, despite him becoming a totally different character playstyle-wise in SF6. And his SFV theme song was a big inspiration for the music in SF6 as the theme of this game is hip hop.
I can’t believe I bought this just for a F.A.N.G pic, but I end up enjoying what i read 💜💜

George, Pattie, and Mal Evans with Frank Sinatra in the control room at Reprise Records on November 12, 1968; photos © Ed Thrasher/MPTV Images.
“One diary entry I’ve left to the end because it’s a great one — a great memory for me at any rate. One Wednesday evening Pattie, George and I went to Hollywood’s Western Recording Studios at the invitation of Frank Sinatra. We watched him work through his session. Afterwards he took us all out for dinner on Sunset Strip and we had a fascinating time listening to his stories and gags. There’s an evening I won’t forget!” - Mal Evans, The Beatles Monthly, January 1969 “[W]e went along with his road manager, Mal Evans, and we went to the recording studio, and in the studio itself, it was — they had a full orchestra, and we went upstairs to the control room, where Frank was, and the engineer, and the producer, and Frank said hello to George and me, and then he said he was just going to go down into the studio to record. So this was really exciting, and we were looking through the big glass window, looking down at him there and the orchestra, and he sang ‘My Way.’ [gasps] This is absolutely wonderful, this is incredible. So he came upstairs, listened to it, we all listened to it, and he said, ‘That’s it, we’re going out for a drink now.’ And it’s as if he had done it just in one take. Who knows, you know, whether they’d done it a few times before we arrived, I don’t know, but in my mind, and George’s, he’d done it in just one take. So it was supreme, it was fabulous. And then off we went to a club, and there was this long table where Frank sat down. George was about to sit next to him, and one of his big guys said, ‘No, no, no, you can’t sit next to Frank.’ So George had to sit a couple of chairs away. I was at the other end with somebody from New York with a very strong accent, and they all had their own bottles of various whiskey in front of them. It was kind of like being in a movie.” - Pattie Boyd, BBC Radio 2, September 2019
Sinatra went on to record a cover of George’s song “Something" in 1970, calling the Harrisong “the greatest love song of the past fifty years.” “‘They all say that "Something” was inspired by Patti [sic - Pattie] but it wasn’t really,’ George confides with an impish chortle. 'She was my wife at the time, but when I wrote that I had Ray Charles in my head. I always imagined Ray singing it, and eventually he did record it. There was a period of time when that became a Muzak tune; you’d hear it in elevators and I started feeling a bit embarrassed, but now I’m back into it and so happy to have written it.’ ‘Sinatra was doing it for years,’ he notes slyly, 'so now I always think of Frank Sinatra when I’m doing it. In fact, I’ve got that in the live version: Stick around Jack, it may show.’" - Billboard, July 4, 1992 (x)

G.I. Joe the Movie was released on August 14, 1987. It was meant to be a theatrical release, see the death of Duke (Michael Bell), and have a topless scene with Zarana (Lisa Raggio). The production went longer than predicted so the Transformers movie was released first, which ended up having a huge impact on the Joe movie. Because Transformers the Movie underperformed in the theaters, it was decided to release the Joe movie as a direct to video and TV presentation. Because the Transformers movie recieved so much backlash from killing Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen), dialogue was added explaining Duke didn't die but went into a coma. The topless scene was story boarded but the scene was altered in the final film with a swim top. Most of the new characters introduced were the new recruits (Lt Falcon - Don Johnson, Kunoichi Jinx - Shuko Akune, Chuckles, Law - Ron Ortiz and Order, Big Lob - Brad Sanders, and Tunnel Rat - Laurie Faso), Sgt Slaughter's (Robert Remus), Renegades (Mercer - Kristoffer Tabori, Red Dog - Poncie Ponce, and Taurus - Earn Boen) and the mutants from Cobra-La (Pythona - Jennifer Darling, Golobulus - Burgess Meredith, and Nemesis Enforcer - Cullen). As Cobra Commander (Christopher Collins/Chris Latta) was facing a mutiny by Dr Mindbender(Brian Cummings), Baroness (Morgan Lofting), Destro (Arthur Burghardt), Zartan (Zack Hoffman), Tomax (Corey Burton) and Xamot (Bell), Pythona arrived and convinced Cobra to steal the BET device. The mission failed, Serpentor was captured, and Cobra Commander retreated his forces to Cobra-La. There Golobulus revealed that Cobra Commander was an escapee from Cobra-La. Also that Cobra-La had secretly manipulated Dr Mindbender into creating Serpentor (Dick Gautier). While Lt Falcon was court martialed by the Joes, Cobra Commander was put on trial in Cobra-La. The movie also featured the familiar Joes and Cobras Low Light (Charlie Adler), Wet Suit (Jack Angel), Blow Torch, Lift-Ticket (both Bell), Motorviper (Gregg Berger), Iceberg (Burghardt), Beach Head (William Callaway), Quick Kick (Francois Chau), Zandar (Cullen), Dial-Tone (Hank Garrett), Hawk (Ed Gilbert), Slip Stream (Dan Gilvezan), Roadblock (Kene Holiday), Bazooka (John Hostetter), Doc (Buster Jones), Gung Ho, Ripper, Televiper (all Latta), Lady J ( Mary McDonald-Lewis), Letherneck (Chuck McCann), Cross-Country (Michael McConnohie), Snow Job (Rob Paulsen), Mainframe (Patrick Pinney), Flint (Bill Ratney), Buzzer, Shipwreck, Monkeywrench, Hector Remirez (all Neil Ross), Thrasher (Ted Schwartz), Scarlett (B.J. Ward), Alpine (Lee Weaver), Torch, Wild Bill (both Frank Welker), Lifeline (Stan Wojno), and Jackson Beck as the narrator. ("G.I. Joe the Movie", Movie, Event)

Mal Evans: "One diary entry I've left to the end because it's a great one — a great memory for me at any rate. One Wednesday evening Pattie, George and I went to Hollywood's Western Recording Studios at the invitation of Frank Sinatra. We watched him work through his session. Afterwards he took us all out for dinner on Sunset Strip and we had a fascinating time listening to his stories and gags. There's an evening I won't forget!" - The Beatles Monthly, January 1969🌸🌸
