I thought it would be fun to try and capture what I think the ninjas’ music tastes would be in playlists. So, here are 5 playlists of 20 songs each for Lloyd, Kai, Zane, Jay, and Cole. My goal was to make these painfully realistic, so be prepared for a little nonsense!

These playlists are generally meant to be enjoyed in order, but I forgive you if you can’t do that. It's only that I jumped between a lot of different genres for these guys in order to give the impression that they’re well-rounded, so I tried to make the transition smooth. I don’t want you to get jump-scared if you have it on shuffle.

I didn't repeat any artists except for Daft Punk (because I had to for Zane, like, legally), and I tried to stick to each artist's most popular music. I want the average listener to recognize a lot of these! I think that makes it more fun to listen to.

The covers are inspired by those iPod commercials with the silhouettes from the mid 2000s. :)

LLOYD: This playlist is inspired by my experience being a tween/teen in the early-to-mid 2010s. Thank you to all my classmates for your unintentional contributions. And you may be wondering, friend, why did you put so much moody rap music on Lloyd’s playlist? Well, in response I raise my own question: have you ever met a real 16-year old-boy?

KAI: I tried to make the playlist flow with his arc. It starts out with edgy rock music, moves into emo, then J-rock (yes, there’s a Naruto opening in there, it’s Kai, why wouldn’t there be), then scene, then horny dance-pop—just like Kai starting out super angsty, but eventually chilling out to the idiotic flirty mess we know today.

ZANE: I mostly just wanted to capture that he’s really weird. He gives me an oldies vibe. It’s also fun to imagine him trying to figure out wacky song lyrics—I think they would mystify him. I wanted to put “My Kind of Woman” by Mac Demarco on there, but it was the only song from this century on the whole playlist, and it stuck out like a sore thumb. :(

JAY: Thank you to everyone who helped me with the video game OST choices! RIP Jay Walker, you would have loved the Portal games. Other than that, I just went for a mix of Tumblr-y lovey-dovey pop rock and glam 80s pop type junk.

COLE: I think Cole is probably the only one who has a good sense of music. He gives me a music bro vibe. I tried to give him some variety to reflect that, but with a focus on grunge and older metal.

They have a big black gothic house that's a mix of traditional and modern styles with bright pink curtains in the windows because Aizawa loves pink and every room is a different theme/vibe, it has three floors to it + a variety of secret rooms [if you've ever seen the Edith Finch game think that] just for funsies

They're somewhere in the Top 50 Richest Heroes list for Japan but neither of them mention it at all because they just don't care. This is how they manage to own about 15 cats [I also used to have 15 cats lol] and they employ a housekeeper called Rukiya

Rukiya is an ex-hitwoman who was sent to assassinate Nemuri but Nemuri liked her vibes so much they became besties. Officially Rukiya is "missing" but unofficially she's working for EraserMic as a housekeeper whenever they're away and lives with Nemuri

Rukiya dresses and acts like a maid but this is because she's committed to the Aesthetic™️

Their kitchen is filled with warm colours and tones and is the neatest looking room in the whole house

When Tensei was paralysed and would never walk again [Stain arc] they immediately set about modifying the house to be wheelchair friendly and completely accessible to him because Tensei likes staying over sometimes

Shinsou's room is a mix of naruto merchandise and real life animal skulls and fossils. All ethically found of course [re: he finds dead creatures and cleans them up before taking them home. Some of these dead creatures have leaked into the other rooms and hallways oopsies]

Eri has the brightest room because she loves bright colours and it's very hilariously jarring to go through this House Of Horrors only to open her door and get blasted by unicorn quilt covers, pawprints painted on her walls and a fluffy rug in the shape of a smiling cartoon dog

If Tokoyami's edgy emo ass ever came to this house he would never want to leave

A slight smutty HC now: the first time Hizashi and Shouta had penetrative sex it was in a coffin in an undertaker's store because they were meant to be spying on someone and locked themselves in it to avoid being seen. They were, like, 18 at the time

Their bedroom is a mix of goth and punk aesthetics with splashes of colour. They have one bedside lamp and no other lights save the sun itself and this is because of Hizashi's light sensitivity

The bed is big enough to fit four people if you squish up because Nemuri and Tensei loved doing that. Now Shinsou and Eri sometimes join them in it if they have nightmares

Shinsou fucking loves halloween but he acts super cool and calm about it guys haha ignore all those outfits and decorations he just bought on impulse it's fine

Eri doesn't really get the full point of halloween she just likes dressing up

Because of what she went through with Overhaul, Eri is surprisingly unaffected by horror movies and will gladly watch even the goriest of them with her dad's without issue. Shinsou, however, is terrified of them and will crawl over the back of the sofa to get as far away from the screen as possible

Aizawa doesn't have any private rooms for himself but does do most of his work in the kitchen because it's closest to all the snacks. He's a chronic snacker which is why he drinks jelly pouches all the time [mood]

Hizashi, however, has two private rooms for himself: a studio room for all his recordings and radio related plans and then another soundproofed room where he can just blast loud music and scream or lay on the floor to feel the bass vibrations. Shinsou also uses this room a lot to de-stress. They have screaming sessions together

I said it in another post but I'll put it here again: the first time Eri attends school she ends up getting stalked in secret by Aizawa and Shinsou, full ninja-like, and Hizashi judges them for it right up until they find him disguised as one of the school staff so he can also keep an eye on her. Eri is oblivious to this

A lot of Eri's classmates are convinced her family are in the yakuza because of how scary and intimidating they look. It's the sleep deprivation and long work hours

People think Present Mic is a purely daytime hero but this is false! Mic is called on a lot by the Underground Heroes to sneak into places in various disguises to get information because he's just one of those guys who can fit in anywhere and is a great actor

Shinsou is a terrible actor because he's not good at on-the-spot improv which has led to some very funny situations for him

This family's idea of fun is to terrorise everyone around them for kicks. You're in a deep dark tunnel with no lights? Well guess what they're gonna jumpscare you and/or make spooky noises that echo everywhere just to watch you shit yourself

Eri moves so quickly and quietly people think the UA dorms are haunted by a ghost

Eri's the only person to have ever successfully snuck up on Bakugou and scared the shit out of him in the kitchens. Shinsou was wheezing to death about it for days afterwards

Had to come back in to add one I forgot about: Aizawa is a borderline yandere for his family and that is canon To Me. I will expand on this eventually

The ever-delightful @owlsandwich tagged me in this nerdy exercise, and since I've got Thereafter on my mind lately (subscription link goes up on Saturday 27.04) I figured hell, why not do the entire gang. For my end of tagging duty, I tag in @tryingtowritestuff24 @jeahreading and @sparrow-orion-writes.

Teams and explanations below:

Michael

The main challenge with assembling Michael's time was to convey his powers of sneaking and affinity for darkness while also not making him too edgy, as he is a teddy bear of a man when all is said and done. Excadrill was a no-brainer on account of his experiences with the molefolk, and following on that subterranean theme, Sableye also seemed to make sense. Sneasler's always given me cat burglar vibes, and hisuian Zoroark's ability to deceive did feel sufficiently stealth-adjacent to fit the bill. Greninja seems to be a bit more of the Naruto-style ninja than the sneaky guerilla fighter sort, but it's close enough, and since I already had decided that the stealth bomber-themed Dragapult was a-ok, then why not, right?

Alicia

Alicia's team was initially very fighting themed, on account of her deal being physical exercise and some anger issues. I did however feel this was a relatively shallow interpretation of the character. Instead I went with fighting type as a baseline, with "capable of shocking levels of violence" as a subtype, thus Tinkaton and Morpeko. Lucario seemed like a natural fit for the focus and mastery Alicia has developed over her body and mind. As for the rest, they're mostly aspirational, big ol' bruisers that look like they can fight good, and can, in fact, fight good.

Lex

Lex' was probably one of the easiest teams to assemble, as their love of science, experience with magic, and proclivity towards edgyness made for several fun picks. Mismagius was a simple first pick to reflect Lex' time at the Magnus College. Drifblim is a somewhat weaker match, but I feel it appeals to Lex' fondness for the odd and unusual. Amped form Toxtricity, Grimsnarl and Obstagoon point to Lex' punk aesthetics and proclivity towards the edgy. While Lex loves science, I think they'd also find Magnezone's "science can't understand this pokemon" vibe to be a delightful challenge.

Felipe

Felipe was another challenge in terms of teambuilding. The man clearly needs a few birds on his team, but going monotype on Flying felt like it failed to capture other parts of his personality, such as his cocky self-assured nature and occasionally abrasive approach to interpersonal relationships. I also figured that having some type diversity would appeal to Felipe's tryhard nature, the man does not like losing. In general, I was looking for bird-themed mons, such as Braviary and Blaziken, filling out more type variety with quick and/or agile mons like Schyther, Emolga and Garchomp, with Weavile mostly here to match Felipe's general vibe.

Does Sasori enjoys listening music? If so what genres?

Generally? I’d say yes.

If we speak of the canonverse though, I do not think Nukenin get to listen to a lot of music. Technology in the Naruto universe is a little wonky, to say the least, but even if there might be technology for it, I don’t think it’s common to travel around with music devices...

So they likely can’t be picky with music and I do not think it is something that is on Sasori’s mind often - nothing he’s so fond of, that he would really miss it. Maybe they come across some festivals or establishments and enjoy whatever music is playing, now and then.

I don’t have a headcanon on what music in specific places of the canonverse is like, but I do think there’s different traditional genres in each area - as well as modern music. And whatever the kind of traditional Sunan music might be like, I think it still gives Sasori mixed feelings - like many things from his early life do. Modern music, pop & anything that’s too loud and ‘erratic’ is probably not to his taste...

I don’t like specifying genres he might enjoy - or not enjoy - too specifically though, if I’m honest. Music preferences are among the things I tend to like to switch around often. That said, I often gravitate towards instrumental music for him - which could include various genres, classic, electronic, jazz, maybe... Probably not all at once, more like - whatever seems to fit him in a specific AU.

Though if it’s a modern AU with a teen/twenties Sasori, I will sometimes shamelessly make him listen to edgy pop-punk, just because I can. :P

This prompt took me by the high school nostalgia and beat me over the head until I wrote these out. I think I went past stereotypes and just went into them in the average american high school setting BUT YOU KNOW.... Also disclaimer I’m from rural bumfuck nowhere so like... I went to school with a class of like 100 kids... and my experience is not typical so I had to ask around to see what makes sense for a larger school ghhdg

The Boys as High School Stereotypes:

Lucifer - The unholy combination of a prep and a goth. is that dark academia ? he’s the valedictorian but he also doesn’t sleep and after junior year gets real into dark dress shirts and eyeliner. Basically depressed but getting all As in his all AP course load. Please someone help him before the burnout gets him. Looks like he’s gotten into espresso early. You know. Will probably get into a great college and then his life will fall apart. Exudes an aura of superiority and the vaguest sense of hostility and maybe has like at maximum 2 friends.

Mammon - Class clown, easy. He’s “friends” with everyone but also friends with nobody, really. Struggling academically in basically everything but Math & his extra-curriculars which are fun. He’s so goddamn fidgety and just tends to say the first thing that comes out of his mouth. The Bane of every study hall teacher’s existence and also the kid on the bus who starts the penis game. Eventually is pushed into getting tutored in almost all his classes in order to graduate on time.

Levi - The weird anime kid. You know which one I mean. Maybe you, dear reader, were this kid in high school. Hangs out exclusively with the furries and other social outcasts. Probably wears a Naruto headband to school unironically. He has a sketch book but won’t let anyone ever look in it. Wears the same baggy hoodie and sneakers every day from the start of freshman year through sophomore year. Probably douses himself in axe.

Satan - Debate team, AP Class taking Honors Society flavored nerd. Reads constantly in class but still answers things correctly when called. Probably wears suspenders and a bowtie and thinks he looks dapper as fuck. Proud card carrying NHA member…. but absolutely hates math & science. Please just let him take his AP Lit  & AP History classes in peace. The first to sign up for a Romantic (the literature type) Poetry Class. He looks like a pretentious asshole and probably is but he’ll grow out of it once he gets to college and has more experiences.

Asmo - The rich, flirty, preppy popular kid who knows everyone. Not as bitchy as you initially assume but still kind of Like That. Spends the second he gets to school up until the last moment before the bell rings for class in the girl’s bathroom because fuck gender, he’s doing his makeup with them and it’s not hurting anything. Probably publicly goes vegan as a diet trend. His graduation party looks like a cross between a wedding and prom. Definitely skated by with straight Cs and Bs but you know what? He made it work.

Beel - A sweet and gentle jock, a miracle of a boy. Constantly sneaking snacks in class and refuses to share them-- not because he’s mean, but because he’s got a certain daily calorie count to meet to stay in his weight class for wrestling, okay? Just a good dude all around though, if not a little intimidating due to his quiet nature & stature. The first kid to offer to help with any heavy lifting because he’s an absolute sweetheart. Everyone kind of knows him and lowkey loves him because it’s impossible to dislike him. Has definitely threatened to knock somoene’s lights out for talking shit about his family though.

Belphie - Emo. He’s an Emo. C’mon now. What else?? Okay… Maybe also a little punk. He’s definitely threatened to kill a kid in the bathroom with the knife he keeps in his boot. Please put this kid in therapy. He’s so goddamn edgy, call this boy a polygon. He lives with his headphones on / earbuds in and paints his nails with sharpie. Also doesn’t seem to every be awake in class, just kinda puts his head down and either goes to sleep or just spaces out... But manages to do just enough to scrape by. Could he get better grades? Maybe. Will he work harder for them? No. Boy’s depressed as shit. I repeat: please get this kid in therapy.

He's a DJ, like EDM. Skrillex, etc.

He doesnt sing, but he likes the way he can blend a tune, and add lots of bass

Bass is essential, his insects like the waves when he's blasting the music behind the turntable

Hinata

Lead singer in the band with Kiba

He vocals are Haley Williams-esque, but with a tinge of Evanescence

Shes got an eerie tone, and gets way into it. When shes performing, theres no way to reach her. Shes in her own little world

Shikamaru

Hes one of 2 things

A) closeted SoundCloud Rapper *peeks from the shadows* "Yall wanna hear my mixtape"

B) plays bass shirtless in Neji's metal band, and completely blows off any groupies hes got following him around

Ino

Is by far an 80s Pop Princess

Much like a Cyndi Lauper or a Blondie, shes a queen. Untouchable

She writes all her own songs, and you can tell. She pours all her all her lyrics and she knows its iconic

Choji

Also has 2 options

A) Oldschool Crooner. In the style of Frank Sinatra. Like this man, on stage, in a suit, singing "My Way". BE STILL, MY HEART

B) Plays drums in Neji's band with Shikamaru. Loves to flail that mane around, bring the beat in, break some sticks, and once dived off stage to join the mosh pit.
