Emmerdale (A.k.a. Emmerdale Farm) (1972-Present)

The daily lives of a small country town. There are a few stories that were worth engaging with for a while, but they’re mainly the less realistic ones since the drama is worth considerably more entertainment value than verisimilitude. Some of the older characters are endearing simply because they’ve been there for so long but adapt new ways to keep them relevant. Most noticeably, the aspect that sets this soap apart from competing British soaps on other channels is that the pace is a great deal more sedate. There are plot lines that will stew for months at a time, sometimes barely being mentioned for weeks. There’s also an irritating habit of stopping an episode mid argument and then continuing from a new day next time, presuming everyone just went home to rest for the next round. In more recent years there have been slight updates like a cleaner title sequence or more modern and diverse stories, however this soap is still far behind others, only having their first pride episode in 2021 for example when others had been exploring similar subjects for years. The gay stories are often more interesting too as there are so many heterosexual sub-plots that it’s mostly recycled tropes. Additionally to having stories drag out for far longer than they’re worth, the results are sometimes quite disappointing, like a character will just leave to negate the tension rather than closure or real drama. The more irredeemable characters die to continue this trend. Since the location is so isolated, the narrative often has to defy realism by giving the characters unnatural emotional outbursts that contradicts their usual habits and behaviour so that things will happen. 2/10 -It’s not THE worst, that’s something else. But…-

Hi, What is your opinion of Melisha Tweedy’s new outfit and makeover from Chicken Run: Dawn Of The Nugget (2023)?

I just love the obvious difference between both her looks!

In the first film we have the slick back bun, the muddy boots. You can see the constant tired look on her face, she’s burnt out and run down from the farm. She’s got no time for appearance as she’s too busy running a failing farm with her husband, no extra help or staff. Her outfit itself is very fitting for the time era (50s) in England, post war where most working class people are in poverty just trying to live. I love the colour too.

((Where she got the money for the pie machine beats me. Probably like a buy now pay later scheme through a catalogue as that’s how most items were bought back then. (1950s Klarna.. yer chicken sells avon) ))

Then we have the second film. She’s away from the farm, married to a rich man with lots of wealth. She’s got her hair done,makeup etc. the clothing again is very fitting for the time era (now we’re in the 60s). She’s got time for personal care and money for her clothing. She’s a successful business woman, you can clearly tell by her looks. She’s managed to let go of past ties (until ginger comes back) which is why she’s more smiley (and goofy) but still got her morals about her. The slight tone difference of her dress for me indicates that she’s still the same Mrs Tweedy.. but also different and I love that.

Also Vinny is apparently selling Caleb the Mill? Guess that coma doesn’t last long. Haha. 

I wonder if they’ll redo the set so it won’t just remind us of Robron anymore. 

But also it would be sad to have it all changed.

guys chill. there's no reason for ryan to hurry back bc there's literally nothing for robert to do atm. they can't fit him into any sl and he is too big a character to simply come back to "fix" aaron, plus they are already doing that with chas, not to mention rob's return will have a bigger impact if aaron is stable and already seeing someone else (that way they can give us the ultimate fantasy aka affair 3.0) though i think it would be really funny if they threw rob into the whole caleb/kim feud as some shady contact of caleb's who is actually looking to get home farm for himself cause that's what robert always defaults to short of aaron, and then when cain finally finds out who has been helping caleb behind the scenes (bc cain always finds out innit) he goes ballistic and caleb is like "wot now?" and cain is foaming at the mouth "thats aaron's ex!" and caleb shrugs " ex-boyfriend? so?" and cain just shakes his head "no, his husband!" and then in comes robert all smug&smiles trying to hide the fucked up broken person inside ready to make everything worse for everybody :DDDDD

Emmerdale star Danny Miller confirms permanent return for Aaron Dingle

Emmerdale has brought Aaron Dingle back to the show in a surprising storyline twist.

Monday's episode (October 9) revealed that Aaron is the mystery character who's being held captive by Cain Dingle and Caleb Miligan at Wylie's Farm.

Cain and Caleb have brought Aaron home from Italy after learning that he'd gone off the rails, still consumed by grief for his late sister Liv. However, with Aaron furious over their intervention, will it ultimately backfire on everyone?

i know you're a fan of emmerdale (european soap opera i believe?? i know nothing about it aside from your posts i'm sorry lol) and also 911 lone star. i realize there is probably absolutely nooooo way this would ever make sense but...

my question to you is if there was a cross-over episode (ignoring all network, travel, etc logistics), you can include any current or previous characters on either show, how would you write a crossover between the shows?

Emmerdale is a british soap opera yeah - it's mostly trash but at this point it's a habit lol

I think Robert and Aaron (I'm sure you've seen them in my posts) taking a trip to Austin as a third (!!) honeymoon would be fun. They're both kind of accident prone so they'd run into TNT sooner or later. They've both also kind of got a criminal streak - and a tendency to get caught so Carlos arresting them isn't out of the question either.

I mean this is them saying goodbye before Aaron (right) goes to prison... and it wasn't the first time. And canonically Robert is serving 14 years for murder right now. (because the blond demon playing him left the show)

But somehow the 126 or tarlos and Owen ending up in Emmerdale would be insanely fun. it's this tiny village in the north east of england and all kinds of crazy shit happens there (soaps are gonna soap). I feel carlos would want to take it easy and enjoy the countryside - and maybe swap recipes with Suni who works as a chef at the local outdoor pursuits centre. Maybe a quiet drink in the pub with him and his boyfriend Nicky too. TK would immediately befriend ALL animals. He'd be living his best life with farms nearby AND a veterinary clinic in the village. He'd try to take home at least one sheep a day. Or maybe a chicken or something else 'small'. I think Owen would get himself into all kinds of situations™. He'd be smack in the middle of all the soapy shit and probably get accused of having an affair with someone sooner or later. And i think he'd become the salon's new best customer. he'd let Mandy try every possible skin care treatment on him and get free samples of every new lotion she'd have. He'd be living his best life - dressed in panther print because his new bff also styled him.
