thoughts on water in terms of the Fears? it's weird to me how it's part of the Buried, the Vast, the Dark....

water should be part of lots of fears!!! i just talked abt how it SHOULD be also the fear of destruction/loss that only fire gets for desolation! it’s also around for lonely and end sometimes, and imo would vibe perfectly well with corruption and slaughter if it came down to it

like, here’s the thing tho, it’s not just water. it’s also skin, and bones, and dirt, and fire, and and and... leitner says it, when jon asks about bones, says he’s ‘examining the physical categorisation, but ignoring the meaning of the thing’. (he got a FEW things right, i guess.) it’s not about the literal symbolism (or it SHOULDN’T BE, and i am staring at the fuckign desolation as i say this, and also the web), it’s about how the specific physical thing plays into whichever aspect of fear ppl are experiencing.

ofc, very often that will be multiple aspects of fear; so often people encounter like, a stranger monster that takes one single form (i’ve been souping lots of stranger stuff lately) and that one thing will engender in them fear of the uncanny, of the unknown, of their own mind playing tricks, of being hunted down, of having violence enacted on them, of their own body being twisted into something terrible. that’s so many fears! that’s so many!!

like, smirke’s 14, for all it’s decidedly incomplete and a monument to the hubris of privileged academia, seems to have been meant as more a definition of ‘the meaning of the thing’, of the various ways people feel fear. it falls apart when people start dedicating any of those fears to a specific concrete imagery (which, tbh, smirke also did, altho not as much as other people seem to have done. on the other hand, he started with rayner’s explanation of the dark, which as fears tied inextricably to one type of imagery goes... well.)

It was this sort of childish endeavor that Jean and Warren had gone on, skinny dipping in the middle of the night on the outskirts of the city. They were far too old for this, but the thrill of being stripped bare in the middle of the night was exhilarating, even for those as cautious as Jean. 

Warren went first, splashing into the deep murky water of the pond they had found. It was lifeless minus the little bits of algae that were floating on top. But it was a pond, surely there was nothing hiding in there. Warren’s merry laugh as his hair resurfaced curled Jean’s lips into a smile. 

She was bare, naked, in front of a man who wasn’t the man she loved, but filled her with the same joy. She felt like she was on display for Warren like he would size her up like a piece of meat, but it never happens. Jean waited for him to say something crude or unfriendly, but all he did was try to encourage her to leap into the deep end.

Despite being naked, and having driven all the way out away from the city to be with him, there was still a sense of hesitation. Warren’s intensity was tempting, alluring. Jean almost wanted to get completely lost in him. He teased her as she stood on the edge of the pond, unsure whether or not she should go through with it. Warren gazed at her with his honey-colored eyes, somehow still maintaining that devilish sparkle. 

“Do it. I dare you,” Warren laughed and splashed her with water. “You’re already wet, why not just go through with it?”

“Or what? Are you going to pull me in?” Jean responded eyebrow raised. 

“You know I wouldn’t make you do anything you wouldn’t want to do.” 

Jean wouldn’t be a buzzkill, not this time. She liked being fun, she wanted to be fun and not a stick in the mud, and Warren was the poster boy for a good time. She wanted to feel bad and dirty for once without the guilt of purity. 

“Fine.” 

She closed her eyes and took a dive into the water. It was cold and dirty, but there was a feeling of intense excitement that rushed over her when she came out and Warren pulled her out of the water. Nothing ever came close to the feeling of Warren’s warm body against her, and the moonlight shining and reflecting against the water. 

Everything was so beautiful, for just that one moment.

I didnt n tbh ... Might not until it comes out digitally ! But ive heard the spoilers and theyre very nice. I'm glad the franchise decided to give lando a link to luke. Though honestly im still thinking about the lando solo book and wondering bout Lobot....its been years but that ending still deeply effects me. I hope we get a comic or book about lando and lukes adventures

yeah going outside is fine (and good for you!) just stay 6+ feet away from others, try not to touch too much and make sure you wash your hands when you get home
