Just for clarification on the SPF thing: I don’t know where @bits-and-pieces-of is from, but many countries like AUS/NZ, the EU, China, South Korea, and Japan cap SPF labels at 50+. In AUS/NZ (and I think the EU), SPF 50+ means the measured SPF is at least 60. In CN/SK/JP, it just means that the measured SPF is greater than 50.
For all of the northerners that stood up for Texas during our freeze and said, "Don't make fun of them, they've never dealt with this before. Their infrastructure isn't made for snow and freezing."
This one is for you.
Where I live 108°F with 80% humidity with no wind is normal.
Pacific North West is dealing historic best waves 35-40°C or 95-105°F.
First of all. Don't make fun of them for bitching about the heat. Just like Texas isn't built for a freeze and our pipes burst, Pacific North West isn't built for heat and a lot of their homes don't have AC.
If you live somewhere with a high humidity like 80+ HUMIDITY IS NOT YOUR FRIEND. The "humidity makes it feel cooler" is a lie once it gets beyond a point.
If you live somewhere with a lower humidity, misters are nice to cool off outside.
Once you get over 90°F (32°C) a fan will not help you. It's just pushing around hot air. (I mean if you can't afford a small AC unit because they're expensive as hell, by all means a fan is better than nothing).
If you have pets, those portable AC units aren't safe. If your pets destroy the outtake thing, it'll leak CO2. Window units are safer.
Window AC units will let mosquitoes or other small bugs in. Sucks, but that's life.
Now is not the time to me modest. If you have to cover for religious reasons, by all means. If you don't, I've seen people wear short shorts and a swim top. It's not trashy if it keeps you from getting heat stroke.
If you do have to cover up for religious reasons, look for elephant pants or something similar. They're made with a breathable material.
Shade is better than no shade, but that shit it just diet sun after some point. Don't think shade will save you from heat stroke.
I know the "drink your water" is a fun meme now, but if you're sweating excessively you need electrolytes. Drink Gatorade, Powerade, or Pedialite PLEASE. I don't care if you're fucking sitting in one spot all day. That shit WILL save you from heat stroke.
Most importantly. RESEARCH THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEAT STROKE AND HEAT EXHAUSTION PLEASE!
If you're diabetic and can't drink Gatorade, mix water, fruit juice, and either lite salt or pink salt
If you can afford it, cover windows with thick curtains to insulate the house
If you have tile floors, lay on them with skin to tile contact. If you don't, laying your head on cool counters works too.
If the temperature where you're at is hotter than your body temperature, don't wear heat wicking clothing. Moisture wicking is safe though.
Check your medication labels. Many make you more susceptible to sun and heat
-Room temperature water will get into your body faster. This is something I learned doing marching band in high summer in Georgia, and it saved all of our asses. Sip it, don't gulp it, especially if you're getting into the red; same goes for whatever fluid you're drinking. And just in general drink during the day.
-If you are moving from an air conditioned space to an un-air conditioned space, if at all possible try to make the shift gradual. When my dad and I were working outside and in un-ac houses a few years ago, he'd turn the air down to low in the truck about ten-fifteen minutes before we got where we were going. This way your body doesn't go from low low temps to high temps. S'bad for you.
-If you can, keep your lights off during the day. Light bulbs may not generate a lot of heat, but the difference is noticeable when it gets hot enough. I literally only turn my bedroom light on in the evening when it gets too dark.
Don't be afraid to just like... pour water on yourself if you need to. The evaporation will cool you off.
Put your hand to the cement for 15 seconds. If you can't handle the heat, it'll burn your dog's paws. Don't let them walk on it.
Dogs with flat faces are more prone to heat stroke. Don't leave them out unsupervised.
Frozen fruit is delicious in water.
Wet/Cold hat/handkerchief on your head/neck will help you stay cool.
Pickle juice is great for electrolytes! You can even make pickle juice Popsicles!
Heat exhaustion is more, "drink water and get you cooled off." Heat stroke is more "Oh my god call 911."

Adorable Captain Crunch could easily win an award for world's friendliest cat! This handsome and petite young man was brought to the shelter as a stray, and although he's in rough condition, he's got so much love to give.
Captain Crunch is a quiet guy in his kennel, but he immediately perks up for visitors. His special talent is making biscuits- he could knead them for hours on end! He loves to be pet, talked to, and especially enjoys tasty treats- specifically the lickable kind.
Upon examination, our vets noted that Captain Crunch has a large wound under his lower jaw extending to the side of his neck that is erythemic and missing the top layer(s) of skin (appearing like a burn wound). He was also covered in fleas, which we treated for, and has some otitis. He was prescribed antibiotics and pain management, and a full medical summary can be provided upon request.
Captain Crunch is currently on stray hold until 10/18 and would love to secure rescue placement in the meantime!

Tightening his chokehold around his wife, Ruki imagined his hand as a makeshift collar and how badly he wished to imprison her so that she could no longer obtain even the slightest opportunity to pursue love elsewhere. Although he did not have the materials necessary in hand, a far better idea came to mind.
“Clearly you’ve forgotten who your one and only master is. I’ve gone too easy on you… too gentle,” he sighed, inclining his head into the crook of her neck, sharp fangs grazing over the delicate skin. “Tonight you shall know the true meaning of being sucked dry.”
A resolute growl escaped his lips as the Vampire scythed his fangs into the erythemal adipose and raked in its wake large punctures of spurting crimson, rivulets of blood dripping down his chin and staining the silk of his shirt without a care for sanguinary besmirchment below, hands now pinning both of hers above her head against the wall. One lowered to rip through the garments obscuring the ample flesh of her chest, his next target. Gradually she grew weak, trembling and nearly collapsing onto the floor had it not been for his strong hold. Each bite was glorious, powerful, titillating.
“Mmh… Lament your fate… Weep in agony… Haah… Have a taste of hell…!!”

Vitamin D: Why you're in all probability NOT obtaining Enough and the way that produces You Sick

What aliment might we'd like in amounts up to twenty five times over the govt recommends for U.S. to be healthy?
What vitamin deficiency affects 70-80 p.c of the population, is nearly ne'er diagnosed and has been coupled to many cancers, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, depression,(i) fibromyalgia, chronic muscle pain, bone loss and autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis?(ii)
What vitamin is almost wholly absent from our food supply?
What vitamin is that the hidden explanation for a lot of suffering that's simple to treat? national vitamin company products
The answer to any or all of those queries is vitamin D.
Over the last fifteen years of my practice, my focus has been to discover what the body needs to function optimally. Vitamin D, a nutrient (more of a hormone and gene modulator) is a critical, essential ingredient for health and optimal function. The problem is that most of us don't have enough of it because we work and live indoors, use sun block and can't get enough from our diet--even in fortified foods.
Two recent studies in the journal Pediatrics found that 70 percent of American kids aren't getting enough vitamin D, and this puts them at higher risk of obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and lower levels of good cholesterol. (iii) Low vitamin D levels also may increase a child's risk of developing heart disease later in life.
Overall, 7.6 million, or nine percent, of US children were vitamin-D deficient, and another 50.8 million, or 61 percent, had insufficient levels of this important vitamin in their blood.
The average blood level of vitamin D was 25 ng/dl for Caucasians and 16 ng/dl for African Americans. The optimal level is 45 ng/dl and requires about 3000-4000 IU a day of vitamin D3 -- 10 times current recommendations. If our whole population achieved a minimum level of 45 ng/dl, we would have 400,000 fewer premature deaths per year. There would be a reduction of cancer by 35 percent, type 2 diabetes by 33 percent and all causes of mortality by seven percent. (iv)
The economic burden due to vitamin D insufficiency in the United States is $40-$53 billion per year. This can be corrected for pennies a person per day.
Over the last five years, I have tested almost every patient in my practice for vitamin D deficiency, and I have been shocked by the results. What's even more amazing is what happens when my patients' vitamin D status reaches optimal levels. Having witnessed these changes, there's no doubt in my mind: vitamin D is an incredible asset to your health.
That is why in today's blog I want to explain the importance of this essential vitamin and give you six tips on how to get optimize your vitamin D levels.
Let's start by looking at the massive impact vitamin D has on the health and function of every cell and gene in your body.
How Vitamin D Regulates Your Cells and Genes
Vitamin D has a dramatic impact on the health and function of your cells. It reduces cellular growth (which promotes cancer) and improves cell differentiation (which puts cells into an anti-cancer state). That makes vitamin D one of the most potent cancer inhibitors--and explains why vitamin D deficiency has been linked to colon, prostate, breast and ovarian cancer.
But what's even more fascinating is how vitamin D regulates and controls genes.
It acts on a cellular docking station called a receptor that then sends messages to our genes. That's how vitamin D controls so many different functions--like preventing cancer, reducing inflammation, boosting mood, easing muscle aches and fibromyalgia and building bones.
Vitamin D also helps prevent the flu and colds and infections. In an observational study of Finnish soldiers, those with 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels higher than 16 ng/mL (40 nmol/L) had fewer respiratory infections than those with lower levels.(v) More recently, in a double-blind randomized controlled trial involving school girls, supplementation with 1200 IU/d of vitamin D3 during the wintertime significantly reduced influenza A infections.(vi)
These are just a few examples of the power of vitamin D. When we don't get enough it impacts every area of our biology, because it affects the way our cells and genes function. And many of us are deficient for one simple reason ...
Your body makes vitamin D when it's exposed to sunlight. In fact, 80 to 100 percent of the vitamin D we need comes from the sun. The sun exposure that makes our skin a bit red (called 1 minimum erythemal dose) produces the equivalent of 10,000 to 25,000 international units (IU) of vitamin D in our bodies.
The problem is that most of us aren't exposed to enough sunlight.
Overuse of sunscreen is one reason. While these product help protect against skin cancer--they also block a whopping 97 percent of your body's vitamin D production.
If you live in a northern climate, you're not getting enough sun (and therefore vitamin D), especially during winter. And you're probably not eating enough of the few natural dietary sources of vitamin D: fatty wild fish like mackerel, herring and cod liver oil or porcini mushrooms.
In addition, aging skin produces less vitamin D--the average 70-year-old person creates only 25 percent of the vitamin D that a 20 year-old does. Skin color makes a difference, too. People with dark skin also produce less vitamin D. And I've seen very severe deficiencies in Orthodox Jews and Muslims who keep themselves covered all the time.
With all these causes of vitamin D deficiency, you can see why supplementing with enough of this vitamin is so important. Unfortunately, you aren't really being told the right amount of vitamin D to take.
The government recommends 200 to 600 IU of vitamin a day. This is the amount you need to prevent rickets, a disease caused by vitamin D deficiency. But the real question is: How much vitamin D do we need for OPTIMAL health? How much do we need to prevent autoimmune diseases, high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, chronic muscle pain,(vii) depression, osteoporosis and even cancer?
The answer is: Much more than you think.
Recent research by vitamin D pioneer Dr. Michael Holick, Professor of Medicine, Physiology, and Dermatology at Boston University School of Medicine, recommends intakes of up to 2,000 IU a day -- or enough to keep blood levels of 25 hydroxy vitamin D at between 75 to 125 nmol/L (nanomoles per liter).(viii) That may sound high, but it's still safe: Lifeguards have levels of 250 nmol/L without toxicity.
Our government currently recommends 2,000 IU as the upper limit for vitamin D -- but even that may not be high enough for our sun-deprived population! In countries where sun exposure provides the equivalent of 10,000 IU a day and people have vitamin D blood levels of 105 to 163 nmol/L, autoimmune diseases (like multiple sclerosis, type 1 diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis and lupus) are uncommon.
Don't be scared that amounts that high are toxic: One study of healthy young men receiving 10,000 IU of vitamin D for 20 weeks showed no toxicity.(ix)
You might have seen a recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association that shows that a single high dose of 500,000 Units of vitamin D3 (one year's worth of vitamin D) increased the risk of falls and fractures in elderly woman.(x) Does this mean that vitamin D doesn't prevent fractures or falls? Absolutely not!
The design and logic of the study were completely wrong. As a friend once said, "The well meaning are often ill doing."
Imagine a study that gave people a year's worth of vitamin A, or iron (both are nutrients that are stored in the body like vitamin D) in one dose. The vitamin A would cause immediate liver failure and death. In fact, the way the Inuit used to kill explorers in the Arctic was to feed them polar bear liver, which gave them toxic doses of vitamin A. A year's worth of iron in one dose would cause severe intestinal problems and iron poisoning.
Biologically we understand why a single high dose of vitamin D may cause problems. A single high dose induces protective mechanisms that reduce the available vitamin D by increasing the activity of enzymes that cause the vitamin D to be broken down by the body. (xi) The body requires a balance of the right nutrients at the right dose at the right time. No one would eat a year's worth of anything in one day and expect it to be healthy.
The question that remains is: How can you get the right amounts of vitamin D for you?
6 Tips for Getting the Right Amount of Vitamin D
Unless you're spending all your time at the beach, eating 30 ounces of wild salmon a day, or downing 10 tablespoons of cod liver oil a day, supplementing with vitamin D is essential. The exact amount needed to get your blood levels to the optimal range (100 to160 nmol/L) will vary depending on your age, how far north you live, how much time you spend in the sun and even the time of the year. But once you reach optimal levels, you'll be amazed at the results.
For example, one study found that vitamin D supplementation could reduce the risk of getting type 1 diabetes by 80 percent.(xii) In the Nurses' Health Study (a study of more than 130,000 nurses over 3 decades), vitamin D supplementation reduced the risk of multiple sclerosis by 40 percent.(xiii),(xiv)
I've seen many patients with chronic muscle aches and pains and fibromyalgia who are vitamin D deficient--a phenomenon that's been documented in studies. Their symptoms improve when they are treated with vitamin D. A Danish study of Arabic women with fibromyalgia found significant vitamin D deficiency and recovery with replacement of vitamin D.(xv)
Finally, vitamin D has been shown to help prevent and treat osteoporosis. In fact, it's even more important than calcium. That's because your body needs vitamin D to be able to properly absorb calcium. Without adequate levels of vitamin D, the intestine absorbs only 10 to 15 percent of dietary calcium. Research shows that the bone-protective benefits of vitamin D keep increasing with the dose.
So here is my advice for getting optimal levels of vitamin D:
1. Get tested for 25 OH vitamin D. The current ranges for "normal" are 25 to 137 nmol/L or 10 to 55 ng/ml. These are fine if you want to prevent rickets -- but NOT for optimal health. In that case, the range should be 100 to 160 nmol/L or 40 to 65 ng/ml. In the future, we may raise this "optimal" level even higher.
2. Take the right type of vitamin D. The only active form of vitamin D is vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). Look for this type. Many vitamins and prescriptions of vitamin D have vitamin D2 -- which is not biologically active.
3. Take the right amount of vitamin D. If you have a deficiency, you should correct it with 5,000 to 10,000 IU of vitamin D3 a day for three months--but only under a doctor's supervision. For maintenance, take 2,000 to 4,000 IU a day of vitamin D3. Some people may need higher doses over the long run to maintain optimal levels because of differences in vitamin D receptors, living in northern latitudes, indoor living, or skin color.
4. Monitor your vitamin D status until you are in the optimal range. If you are taking high doses (10,000 IU a day) your doctor must also check your calcium, phosphorous and parathyroid hormone levels every three months.
5. Remember that it takes up to 6 to 10 months to "fill up the tank" for vitamin D if you're deficient. Once this occurs, you can lower the dose to the maintenance dose of 2,000 to four,000 Units a day.

You can see currently why I feel so turbulently regarding vitamin D. This vitamin is crucial for good health. therefore begin aiming for optimum levels--and watch however your health improves.

History of chocolate
The Mayans are believed to be the first to discover cocoa around 900 AD. They learned that the cocoa beans could be harvested and made into a liquid called chocolate.

Mayan chocolate was different from chocolate today. It was a liquid made from crushed cocoa beans, chili peppers, and water. They poured the liquid from one cup to another until a frothy foam appeared on top.  The word chocolate is said to come from the Mayan word xocolatl which means bitter water.
Food of the Gods
For the Mayans chocolate was like liquid gold. As well as bitter water they called it the food of the gods. Cocoa was often consumed during religious ceremonies and marriage celebrations. All Mayans could enjoy cocoa, regardless of their social status.
Cocoa was highly valued for its healing and medicinal properties. Mayans would whip up a mix, and people would enjoy it the same way we enjoy coffee today.

Cocoa quickly became pertinent to the Aztec economy. The demand for the cocoa bean and the beverage that it produced brought about a huge network of trade routes throughout the region.
When the Aztecs conquered the Mayans, they were forced to pay taxes to the Aztecs. These taxes were called “tributes” and they were paid in cocoa, so the Aztecs, who couldn’t grow their own cocoa, would always have a supply.
Cocoa beans were kept in locked boxes in businesses, and some enterprising Aztecs actually made counterfeit cocoa beans.
The history of Chocolate - Europe
In 1502, Christopher Columbus landed in the Americas. He found new and wonderful foods including cocoa. When he returned to Spain, he brought some cocoa beans back to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, but they were not especially interested in the strange new bean.
Hernan Cortes arrived in the Aztec homeland in 1519, the same year Quetzacoatl promised to return. Cortes happened to land at the exact spot from which the Aztec god departed. In his feather coated armour and gold jewellery, he reminded Aztecs of their returning god. No wonder Montezuma offered him a cup of cocoa and an entire cocoa plantation.
The secret of the Spanish
The Spanish kept cocoa beans secret from the rest of Europe for a long time. In 1579, English pirates attacked a Spanish merchant ship filled with cocoa beans. Thinking the beans were dried sheep droppings, the pirates burned the ship in frustration.
Like the Mayans and Aztecs, the Spanish drank cocoa for health and energy. But they also enjoyed it during church services and were even allowed to have cocoa during Lent, because it was considered a necessary beverage.
Cortes did not enjoy the bitter cocoa drink, but he was amazed at how the Aztecs valued it. He found that warming the drink made it taste better and “hot chocolate” was born.
After cocoa took off spanish cooks experimented with the recipe and added sugar to sweeten it.
Chemical and physical affects of chocolate

The minimal erythemal dose (MED) is the minimum amount of UVB rays required to cause redness in the skin 24 hours after exposure.
7. Could Improve Brain Function
One study of healthy volunteers showed that eating high-flavanol cocoa for five days improved blood flow to the brain.
Cocoa may also significantly improve cognitive function in elderly people with mental impairment. It may improve verbal fluency and several risk factors for disease, as well.
Cocoa contains stimulant substances like caffeine and theobromine, which may be a key reason why it can improve brain function in the short term.

In this brain storm i was trying to choose a topic for my inforgraphic. I went with the history of chocolate because i think that it would be interesting to find out about where i came from and how it became a stable snack or treat today. Also i think that the infographic i make would be more interesting to people as most people have an idea of how its make but not where it came from.

In these sketches i was trying out different coin designs i could use for the Spanish coin. i started with a cross on the coin but thought that there wasn't much going on and it looked a bit boring so i then went with a shield. The shield is what is on an actual coin so i decided to just go with that as it would if the historical inforgraphic i was going to make. I was also looking at what the background could look like. the first was a set of stairs going up to a door or corridor that goes into a pyramid i liked this design a it would look good and would take away from the information on top of it. i also like the bush form the other design because it looks like your bushing through the jungle and have found this by chance so i decided to add it to the other one.

In these sketches i was trying to find the right heads for the Aztec, Mayan and Spanish graphics. The Aztec head started with having the spike going up but i didn't like how that looked as it reminded me of anime styles so it then tried then going side ways and the look more like an actual Aztec statue. With the Spanish head i deiced to leave that out because i didn't want the infographic to be the same thing over and over again, so i decided to make a  ship in stead as it would be a change from the heads. With the Mayan head i found that they normally have animal featured with the head like a crown or hat so i went with a bear as they were near the Mayan empire at the time but weren't see a lot in Mayan architecture or art.

This is the colour pallet that i used for the Infographic. Four of the colours are analogous which means they match well and create serene and comfortable design that doesn’t clash or take away from another part. i chose the cream colour as it resembles stone or clay which is what the Mayan statues would have been made from. I also went for goldsish colours as the Aztec had a lot of gold and were famous for the myth of eldorado, the city of gold.

This is the first layout that i tried. This layout shows the information clearly but the hierarchy of information doesn't flow as i intended and it looks like you go from from left to right but you go along the top and then along the bottom. Also i think the the graphics could be bigger so the information is clearer on the back ground.

Firstly, i started to create the back ground scene for my infographic. i decide to go with the stairs leading to a door. I mainly used the square shape tool for this part but also used the pen tool to make the 3D element of the stairs. i gave each part a stroke of 1pt. i also made each part of the stairs smaller then the one before so add depth to the otherwise flat background. I also added a gradient to the stair to add depth and to reinforce the 3D aesthetic.  As well as that i used the curvature tool to make the flame because i started with an ellipse then used the tool to curve the sides to make the flame shape. next i added an inner darker shade to the flame to add more to the piece.

After that i added the title to the infographic . i chose white text because black text didn't stand out as much and was less visible in the other parts of my infographic. I chose this font because its easy to read and stands out on a page.

Next i added a circle with a lighter colour over the fire to make a lighting effect. i reduced the opacity to 50% so it looked more like lighting.

Then i went on Photoshop to create a bush. i used the leaf brush in two different colours (dark green and lighter green) to make it look less flat. i firstly put a layer of the dark green where i wanted the bush to go and then added areas of the lighter green and kept going over with each colour till it looked how i wanted it to.

Next i created a Mayan graphic. Firstly i used the ellipse tool to create a circle which i curved and distorted to make half of of face which i then duplicated and flipped horizontally to make a symmetrical face. Then using the same method i created the eyes, mouth and the nose. Next i used the rounded rectangle tool to create a square and then duplicated it and made the colour dark and moved it to the centre of the other circle to make the ‘ears’. Then made the hat using the ellipse tool and curving it. I then duplicating it and flipped it to make it symmetrical. The tassels are 7 rectangles variating in colour. After that i used the ellipse tool and duplicated the circle and made it smaller then using the pathfinder tool i created a hole in the larger circle. After that i duplicated the ring across the hat to make the Mayan aesthetic more viable.

Then i made a cocoa graphic. to start i used the ellipse tool to make a oval then i i made another oval and placed it on top of the first one to make a cone. then i used the curvature tool to make the top oval more organic looking. i then added another oval to the top to and shape it with the curvature tool to make the cocoa beans. i then added squares that i deformed to the oval  to make it look more like the real thing.
Then i added gold bars to the graphic to show that it was worth a lot of money.

The next thing was the Aztec graphic. i started of making the head by using the ellipse tool and shaping it with the curvature tool to make it look more Aztec. i then made the eyes and the mouth it the same way. after that i i used the rectangle tool and curved the top and bottom of it to make the parts coming of the head look more refined as it would of been in Aztec time. i then used the ellipse toll and the curvature tool for the eye

Finally i made a coin using the ellipse tool. i then used the type tool and typed on the circle. i also made the shield using the rectangle tool and curvature tool. I tried to make it look like an actual Spanish coin so i used the exact text which is on the coin.

Overall i think that the design is effective in covey the information on it in a simple and interesting way. Most of it went well as the graphics are clear and portray the aesthetic of each thing. also the text is clear and easy to read and tells the information in a concise way. To improve this i would try and add more 3D element to the graphic as it a bit flat. also i would try and make the character graphic stand out more they are both only really using the colour but in different shades.

S45: Morrow Yon to the Bloodwoods

With the crying of ravens and muted sunlight passing through closed windows does Taerus wake up. His memories foggy, his muscles throbbing with ache, he spends several moments acquainting himself with his lodgings in the Conservatory of the Mystics Infirmary. With only a couple other patients, Taerus is quickly seen to by a half-elf attendant named Brother Brüelder, who is more than happy to assist the fighter. Shakan and Rat are soon escorted in, and after getting some wine the trio are able to speak in private.
Shakan and Rat catch their friend up on the goings on since their departure of Delta Harbour, including their confrontation and feud with Weylin, the attack on the Fair Weather Maiden by fish-folk and sharks, and (in Epic Poem form,) the challenges in building a case for Shakan:
We three traveled to Bofkismaur, the mood started to turn sour.
Larry Dennit is working with the Open Hand and nothing goes according to plan.
Now Elder Gikandi is on trial. We have two weeks to prepare but people wont talk and they just stop and stare.
...And also there are the Bloodwood Forest sounds cool.
Taerus was especially saddened by the loss of Gothi Orison. Temloc was his first teacher in the ways of faith, a lesson he took to heart in becoming a cleric himself. When the pair asked about why he left them at Delta Harbour, Taerus shared some details of his travels with Muira's Marauders. The words caught in his mouth, though, as he came to his final moments below the Broken Drawbridge tavern; partially from anger and guilt but also since he truly couldn't remember how it had all ended. When asked to remember, a few final flashes of memory surfaced: the Master of Ceremonies laughing, Erythem the tabaxi bard being incinerated, and a final conflagration that swallowed him, screaming, whole...
The conversation eventually moved to lighter fare, as they further discussed their plans to prepare for the trial of Shakan in less than 2 weeks time, firstly by getting some private time away from the prying eyes and viral rumor mongering that perpetuated the school grounds. Taerus agreed to join them, but only after seeking further guidance in the ConsMyst from someone who knew the ways of Thelandria.
During this, Vax Shadowsworn was following a lead regarding the Open Hands' involvement by investigating the village below called Bofkashome. It was made up of rings of neighborhoods, which from closest to furthest were known as Maur Rest, Peddlebench Way, and Horns' End, respectively. Trying to move without haste so as not to attract any undue attention, it took the half-elf several hours to move through the blocks until he found himself in the outskirts of Horns' End, where the less successful, more untoward denizens of the village resided.
It was these types of neighborhoods where Vax had most often found himself in his life before the Hexblade entered him, where he had found success in getting jobs with his former guild. Utilizing the enchanted goggles that he had purchased from Rinna Lynn, the precocious undergrad the Mudwangs had met in the ConsInn marketplace, he was able to identify several centers of magic in the End: Trollstop Tavern, Witches Brew hostel, and Black Rapier Etchings tattoo parlor. Wary of being caught in something larger than planned, the warlock made note of these establishments and returned to meet with his allies for dinner.
Joining them to eat was Gnardlen Whelk, the leader of the upcoming camping trip and their "sponsor" whilst staying at the ConsBio. Over drinks and appetizers the human male shared the basic plan of the trip, explaining how first year students could learn about the leylines of nature, while focusing on the fabled Bloodwood Trees whose sap had several medicinal and utilic properties. He also shared his rules for the students (and chaperones):
- No undue damage to the forest, including but not limited to graffiti, wanton destruction, or burning
- Do not disturb nature unnecessarily outside the purview of research
- All students must use buddy system
- Everyone in their tents (or within camp) by moon up
While these rules did seem straightforward enough, Vax was curious about what dangers could lay within the woods, and whether self-defense might be necessary. And while Gnarlden did admit that forest bison, blink dogs, and owlbears did reside in the Bloodwoods, it was easy to avoid direct encounters if the rules were followed.
With that, Gnarlden left to finish his preparations for the morrow. Before departing, though, he left each of the Mudwangs with a satchel bag filled with supplies for the upcoming expedition. The men then finish cataloging their progress at Bøfkasmaur, including meeting the Captain of the Forkknights Order of the Tines, Captain Geier Sturgos, their student connections Miné, Rinna, Concierge Throfung, and learning about Shakan's "replacement," Huon Hirrard.
A somewhat sloshy Rat continues to bemoan why no one, including marine specialist Gnarlden, believes his stories about having survived a dragon turtle attack. Taerus advises the bard that while Whelk had seemed to be speaking true, perhaps there were other causes for his inquiries to have gone sour. Rat nodded pensively as an automaton refilled his empty alehorn, wondering where else he need look.
Soon enough it was time for bed, as the trip was set to leave by 9 the next morning. Before heading to bed, Vax taps into his patrons power and returns to Elder Gikandi's window, hoping for a response from the tortle wizard, but is disappointed to find no response. Curious and concerned, he returns to his quarters where Rat is already sawing wood with his snores. Nevertheless, the Mudwangs- nearly entirely reunited- sleep easily in their companions presence.

However, multiple studies have found that oral supplementation with a combination of vitamin C and vitamin E effectively increases MED and decreases erythema-induced blood flow to damaged areas of skin (41, 42). Topical application of vitamin C, alone or in combination with other compounds, may result in greater photoprotection than oral supplementation because of the more direct route of administration. In one mouse study, topical application of ascorbic acid delayed the effects of chronic high-dose UVB exposure on the skin, including a reduction in skin wrinkling and the development of skin tumors (13). In pig models, topical application of vitamin C serum for face reduced the number of sunburned cells, decreased erythema response, and reduced DNA damage induced by UVA exposure (18, 33). Topically applied combinations of vitamin C and vitamin E are more effective in preventing photodamage than either vitamin alone. In particular, this combination of antioxidant vitamins decreased the immunosuppressive effects of UV exposure (43), increased MED, and decreased cell damage (16, 18, 44).
Limited human studies are available on photoprotection by topical application of vitamin C. Although topical ascorbic acid reduces radicals in UV-exposed human skin (45), only one study examined its effect on UV-induced erythemal response; this study reported no significant benefit of topical vitamin C (24). Like animal research, human studies using combinations of vitamin C and vitamin E have documented UV protective effects (17, 19, 24).

FRACKAJOSHOUS - 12/12/20
Two weeks since coming back from Panchakarma in California.
I am officially fuckzed again.
I did not do samsarjana properly. and it took less than 2 weeks to see the results of my massive folly. I just went off the deep end and rebounded so very hard - short of eating fast food takeout every day, I completely did the opposite of clean eating, like I was supposed to do.
I spent 2+ weeks getting healthier, getting rid of doshas, going through a lot of hard shit, only to fuck it all up. however, I do think being back in polluted nyc and its weather has a lot to do with this too.
Conditions:
In general, I am just 2 steps shy of miserable again. My body is a desert dry skin suit of pain. My doctor thought I had more t-shirt like symptoms, eczema where a t-shirt doesn’t cover. It’s more of a shirt now, and more of a full-bodysuit. It’s more on my torso/back/shoulderblades/buttocks/hips/waist/thighs. My arms - it’s gone higher up on my arms now; all over my forearms; very very very dry, erythemic elbows now. Hands - very red, very erythemic; fingers are swelling up again (but thankfully still staying together (not all cracked up, thankgoodness)); left inner wrist is more swollen now [was receding before :( ] Face is not doing so well - pretty strong eczema/scaly desert patches along my whole underside chin/jaw line up to my right cheek; forehead eczema; whole neck is desert dry up to my ears/behind ears.
I don’t feel good. I want this to go away. I want to start over. I want a second/10th chance at life again. HELP. THIS HAS TO STOP.
Is this caused by all the different stressful events of the past few years? Is it mainly caused by my IUD/removal and hormonal imbalance? WHY does this happen to me? HOW can I return to a healthy state? 
WILL I BE ABLE TO HEAL WHILE LIVING IN NYC? IF NOT, HOW CAN I GET TO A BETTER PLACE SO THAT HEALING MAY OCCUR?
CAN I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA AND WORK FOR MY TEACHER/DOCTOR/CLINIC IN EXCHANGE FOR SHELTER AND MEDICAL TREATMENT? Could I live in California and work for my teacher/doctor in their clinic in exchange for shelter and medical treatment? I think that would be a great deal for me... would it work out for them? I just kinda need a headstart to heal well enough so I can do some work. GAHHHHH HELPPPPPP. I am awesome, I just need a chance to get better and share my gifts with the world.
