Lavender, jasmine and mint
Yin & Fajar (Sifu)
Fajar’s brows furrowed deeply. You say that a lot, he signed. Starting not to believe you. Yin took a few deep breaths, slow and steady. “I know. I’m sorry.” Her eyes began to burn, which only made the ache in her head worse. But she didn’t know how to stop it. And even if she did, she was too tired to. Her face scrunched up, and a lump formed in her throat, cracking her voice open. “I’m sorry.” When she began to cry, Fajar leaned forward and drew her up with more ease than she would’ve thought possible of him. She curled up and leaned her head on his shoulder, with his strong arm wrapped around her. His free hand found hers and she held it tightly. This close, he didn’t smell like purple flowers anymore. More like lavender, jasmine … And a touch of mint. CH. 25 -- Spoken Truth The Path To Wude by ArlenianChronicles
The cross fandom contamination keeps getting worse, and I love it. A bit of fanart done for @arlenianchronicles / @arleniansdoodles lovely story The Path To Wude . My heart and soul belong to those two and their interactions.

Here’s a thought: most of the bosses in Sifu are well-spoken individuals, even if they have objectionable qualities (see Sean’s social darwinism and Yang taunting The Student for never learning Yang’s Phase 2 moves). But what if the one who doesn’t speak at all was the exception? Fajar totally seems to me like the kind of guy who would swear if he could, and I’d like to imagine this is something Yang chastises him for like how he can tell Sean “don’t be so arrogant” in the tutorial sequence. (As for how he’d know when Fajar is thinking the F word, it’d be like how anyone in a cartoon knows anything a silent character thinks.)
On another funny note, have a funny GIF of the best thing you can do with Low Gravity enabled.

Ngl, would be kinda cool to imagine an idea of lis2 sifu AU(but this game(lis2) is so suck that It won't let It work😒specially on aspect of the villans idk who can be💦),(sigh), okay, lets think, the main characters I not even need to say who will be, do I?, this yang, his our main characters big brother...sooo It all points to sean(but its kinda weird taking in consideration we also have a "sean" in the game, tho sean doesn't look like neither of them, tho "I tired of this shit"(this a dialogue of this sean(sifu)) is a very sean(lis2 sean) thing to say😒, and the older version of this yang doesn't combine with the older version of sean(that could be him from bb I guess?), It doesn't need to be coherent to the original characters, lets pretend sean being this yang so It makes more sense with Daniel, the vengeance, like, Daniel would be avenging who? Because in the logic of the game, the main characters are avenging their father's death, so Daniel would be avenging...Esteban?😒(spongebob hawaiian cocktail playing in background), sorry!! I just don't like esteban(I respect him as sean and daniel's father, but I don't care about him), I mean this one kind makes sense, the problem is that I DON'T LIKE ESTEBAN💦(and the visual gets me too, our main characters father is an old man, I mean esteban is an old man too, but our main characters father looks like a grandpa and Esteban looks like "a daddy😩👌"or dilf(I don't like much this word), tho playing the opening again ngl I found the old man kinda good looking, he's an old man of respect, I prefer the old man than Esteban😒), this fajar, this one is easy, for me super combine to be the gangster/short dude that got fucked up both in bb and lw(cuz I feel this dude have a tension with daniel, the same way our main characters have a tension with this fajar because he is the one that killed them, so they have this fear, but also this hate/rage towards him), actually all the three First bosses could be portrayed by the gang members If you want, the short dude would be this fajar, the big bald dude this sean and the girl could be this kuroki, this one makes sense cuz those are characters I could Cleary see daniel messing with, its just funny cuz they are very random, okay, but if you want some important characters, this fajar for me super combines this dude, this sean unfortunaly idk, this kuroki if you want It could be lyla😒(the problem is that daniel likes this bitch and y'know... our main characters kill them!, so daniel would never😩👌, although daniel in the beggining also liked cassidy and then he almost killed her, so I kinda don't doubt It🙄, one of the things that make lyla combine with this kuroki for me, its that both of them combine with the word "bitch", I feeling kinda bad to associate this kuroki with this word 😅but it kinda combines with her, but ofc way more to lyla, ugh, I don't like this girl), the old lady I mean this jinfeng, tsc, its very obvious who combine to be, lisbeth!, even the way our main characters kill this jinfeng is exactly alike the way Daniel kills lisbeth and I never notice that, I mean I founded similar when I saw it, but its more similar than I thought(i always thought that our main characters killed this jinfeng by hanging her, but playing again and again now I see that they actually break/crack her neck, thats what kills her, which exactly what daniel's do when he kills lisbeth, and both deaths/scenes are kinda creppy, our main characters is a cool creppy, daniel's to me its a bad creppy(I have a trauma with this scene/episode 4 in general💦), but I will accept for the sake of coherence😓(jokes asides, what makes lyla have something in common with this kuroki is that both have some sadness/mental problem(like depression!? idk what this kuroki have, but she has/had something and lisbeth and this jinfeng are both very gredy old ladies)
#coitada dessa kuroki ser interpretada pela lyla(hmph se o Esteban fosse pra ser o velho essa mina já ia querer é dá o cú pra ele😒💢 isso sim#It's true what Marina said maybe this Sean can be this brett dude(its kinda random char too) yeah but just like in s1fu...#You can add some characters from daniel's past that combines to him have a grudge/go after#In nutshell characters that daniel would have a reason to kill☠️(yeah sean is one of those)#I forget that there is also the talisman mechanic (it's just that nowadays I play it so well that I don't even age our characters anymore)#at 25 years old Daniel transforms into him from R(that would totally be a game that I would try hard not to die💦(roman holiday playing))#but I'll be honest I don't believe BB Daniel would become him from R at 25...#I think BB Daniel would remain the same actually#Let's just focus on the Young look💦 (although I can really visualize BB Daniel wearing the 40's jacket(would be cute)#this idea its not even about lore😅it's more a visual aspect#i just think would be cool/neat see daniel as the main characters in sifu style#cuz i can cleary imagine a redraw of some of the scenes but with daniel#i can imagine the scene that they kill this fajar#i can imagine the rain scene of this yang fight(even tho i said older sean don't combine with this older yang visual#But now i can kinda see a BB sean using a tradicional clothe like this yang#Who wish I could draw this op💧#lis2 discussion#about s1fu

Happy Chinese New Year! And happy 2nd anniversary to the best Kung-Fu game I have never played! <333 Don't get me wrong, I'd really love to play it; I just don't have the time or enough space on my computer T_T
So I thought I'd draw the whole gang having a little New Year's party to celebrate! XDD MC gets out her camera and takes photos of everyone - even Sean, whom she finds notoriously hard to get a good picture of loll Kuroki and Jinfeng are of course the most stylish of the bunch; Fajar's just glad to have a new coat, which he's very careful about keeping clean (even as he hovers near the free food loll)
Also, quick note, the game uses simplified Chinese for "Sifu" but I decided to go with traditional just to keep it consistent with the "Happy New Year" text :)

So for an understanding on what was going on, the world you saw was known as Sifu. A Kung-Fu Student’s family, most notably his father who they respected very much was killed by 5 Martial Arts Masters, one of them being Yang, the students older brother. The Student was only 11 years old at the time of the incident when Fajar cut the students throat, though the student had a pendant that would resurrect him after each death, at the cost of aging one year, therefore The Student was resurrected at the age of 12. When he saw that his father was killed, The Student swore vengeance in the 5 masters responsible, being Fajar, Sean, Kuroki, Jinfeng, and Yang, so he spent the next 8 years training so he could avenge his father, and that’s what he did once he was 20. He killed all 5 of the Masters responsible for his fathers death, including his brother Yang, but at the end of it all, The Student never found satisfaction even after getting revenge, just emptiness.
Where it all began.

Ooohh, a martial arts movie in the style of a videogame? Sounds like fun!

Are any of these “videogames” about knights?
Tumblr media
Wow… those are some huge family issues they have!

Sifu is genuinely one of the best hallmarks of video game development I’ve ever seen in my life. It is genuinely a video game presented as an art form, neatly fit into a really fun brawler. It came out in February this year, and in October, now, I still have not stopped playing it.
Sifu is so, SO focused. That is one thing this game absolutely excels at and what makes it one of the greatest of all time: There are no filler mechanics, no meandering levels, nothing to artificially extend its playtime.
In an industry era where every single game developer attempts to squeeze every minute out of the player with the same dull gameplay loops over and over again so that they could have them play the game ‘forever’, Sifu doesn’t care. It only has five levels, and it proudly presents itself as such. It only has five levels, but it’s confident in making those five levels REALLY, REALLY count.
Every, single, encounter, in this game, is so tightly designed, so perfectly crafted. Every single enemy has an unique appearance. No faceless goons that’s copied and pasted a dozen times, no-- Every single person, in every single area, in every single level, is an unique person, with their own design and model. Every single area has their own unique music, their own unique gimmick.
Every level has their own aesthetic and theme, and each boss follows the style perfectly. Forest, with Fajar being the ‘wild man,’ more attached to nature than everything else. Fire, with Sean encompassing rage and violence that sets fire within him. Water, where Kuroki weeps and griefs over the loss of someone in her life. Steel, in which you could find strength and gold that brings fortune and wealth to Jinfeng...
Tumblr media
The fucking Museum level. THE MUSEUM LEVEL. IT IS, SO GOOD. There is so much love and art put into it. The aesthetic, the art pieces that you see in the museum is fucking intricate and well designed that I was fooled into thinking that this must have been a real art museum that they took from real life but it isn’t! It’s one of the best levels I’ve ever played in a video game. Ever. The music, the theme of running water, the somber boss Kuroki, the snowy area that turns into a tsunami with waves in the background that looks like an ukiyo-e art piece.
Only one could ever dream of making a game like this, where every single part falls into a piece that’s so tightly fit and snug that it cannot be shaken apart. It is flawless, fearless in its presentation. People who are dissuaded by the 5 level count in this game are fucking spoiled babies. GET THIS GAME.

Sifu; the danger of power unearned.
Fajar sought the pendant's power to heal his mental illness. All it did was turn him into an animal.
Sean wanted power, and he got burned by the fire.
Kuroki wanted her sister back, now her sister haunts her as a bad memory.
Jinfeng wanted to help the poor, and became what she swore to fight against in her ivory tower.
Yang wanted his family back, he didn't get it.

Bread's Game Journal 02/22/22: In Sifu, Mercy is The Coolest Feeling In The World.
Tumblr media
*Spoilers for Sifu* There's something truly unique about the way Sifu handles the idea of a New Game Plus that leads to a secret ending. Unlike a lot of other games that go with this setup, it doesn't take all that long. Nor is achieving the proverbial "True" ending actually all that difficult. A statement that sounds bizarre when you consider how difficult the game itself has been up to this point, but then, that's just the thing. As a reminder, the only way to get the true ending in Sifu is to understand that vengeance won't solve anything, and exploit the hidden mercy mechanic in each of the boss fights. Essentially via letting all the bosses know that you can easily kill them, but are choosing not to, by breaking their structure meter twice in one fight. Doing so sounds like it's going to be a hassle, some of these bosses are a huge pain to beat at all, let alone beating in a specific way that requires you to be actively careful not to kill them. The thing is though, it isn't. By the point in the game that you're going back to fight all these bosses again, if you're anything like me, they don't stand a chance. Fajar becomes utterly predictable and can be beaten flawlessly before he even really has a chance to gain the upper hand. Shaun, a total nightmare when you first fight him, has become a big predictable lug who will fall victim to your kidney punch stuns over and over until the battle is over. Even Kuriko, who's extreme speed and difficult to predict patterns can't stand up to you after you've fought her a dozen times trying to get your age down for the next run during your first playthrough. This new lack of difficulty from a previously brutally difficult game makes you, the player, feel just as you should in these mercy giving situations. In the story of the game, the lead character wants these kung-fu masters to know that he's easily beaten them, and that they have to live with that knowledge. A feeling that translates perfectly to the player when you just trounced a boss that used to kick your ass up and down the room. I'll be real, there's a not insignificant chance that Sifu is my game of the year. Still too early to completely tell, but I doubt I'm going to feel the same things I felt playing this game again. I urge anyone who likes action games to give it a try.

The Sharp Sent Of Mint
Yin & Fajar (Sifu)
Was that mint? She took several breaths of it. Gradually, her head cleared, and the cacophony of noise and images faded away. She was in Fajar’s room. It was quiet here. And green. “Hm,” Fajar hummed, drawing her attention. You alright? he signed. “Yeah, I – I’m fine,” Yin said distantly. “I’m okay.” Looked like you were going to faint. Fajar squeezed her arms briefly. Yin winced, but the ache brought her closer down to earth. “It’s fine,” she said, rubbing her forehead. “It hasn’t happened in a long time.” She lowered her hand to her lap and felt the tickle of leaves against her fingers. Mint grew around her crossed legs, rising up past her elbows and brushing against her shoulders. The cooling aroma soothed her like a fresh breeze after a hot day. CH. 9 -- Potted Orchard The Path To Wude by ArlenianChronicles
Commission done for my good friend (and cross fandom contamination expert) @arlenianchronicles / @arleniansdoodles of her WONDERFUL story The Path To Wude (which, even if you've never played the video game or know little about it like me, it's still such a GREAT read. So, super recommended if you ARE looking for something to read. Lots of good angst, familial dynamics and KUNG FU.
I'm still doing commissions if anyone's interested 😁 there's a small waiting list tho. Just be warned.

The magical objects of Sifu! Five talismans stolen, and one pendant given.
Okay so, I spent a day on each painting and ended up finishing these in six days! The Sifu brainrot is real lololl But I wanted to go for another polished painting series since the first one was so much fun: this time, the theme is about defeating the Guardians who kept the talismans, leading up to the game's prologue.
From left to right, we have:
Fajar and the Wood talisman
Sean, his father, and the Fire talisman
Kuroki and the Water talisman (with a cameo of her father)
Jinfeng and the Metal talisman
Yang, MC, MC's father, and the Earth talisman
Female MC and the immortality pendant
I took the Guardians' designs from Jinfeng's conspiracy board in her boss level! Thankfully, MC's father, Sean's father, and Jinfeng already have clear designs, so that was easy to work with XDD
As for the talismans themselves, they're only mentioned in-game but never explicitly shown like the immortality pendant. I imagine they look like traditional Chinese talismans, slips of paper covered in seal script writing, and such.

Post-true ending art for Sifu, this time with Fajar! Along with the MC turning the bosses into allies, I love the idea of her displaying the respective Five Virtues that each boss is associated with and lacks in-game.
In Fajar's case, it's Humanity, more commonly known as Benevolence, iirc. He offed the MC when she was only a child, and we never find out how he feels about the deed, though the spare option implies that he probably felt guilty about it for years afterward. I suspect he only did it because Yang asked him to, and Fajar trusted him (just as he trusts Yang to treat his illness).
The MC sparing Fajar can be seen as an act of humanity (and benevolence), but I like to take it further and imagine that she went back to Fajar after, and they somehow formed a sort of "gremlin uncle and compassionate niece" dynamic, if that makes sense XDD
I'm also not sure how to explain what's going on in my painting; I just wanted to draw Fajar experimenting with some pretty flowers other than the purple ones used to make drugs lmaoo and the MC supports his endeavours! :D

(Warning this is super long I'm so sorry) Absolutely mcfreaking reeling from that charged backfist of a chapter. I have no words. Yang what. What is wrong with you. He really slaughtered five schools' worth of students and masters, killed his adoptive father, orchestrated the murder of his little sister, secretly went back and raised said little sister from the dead, decided to let her wake up ALONE IN A POOL OF HER OWN BLOOD SURROUNDED BY THE BODIES OF HER FAMILY, left her to fend for herself at the ripe age of 11, and then fucked off to the mountains to be a super-doctor. BROTHER. Like yes Yang, it was really cold of Sifu to not let you save your family with the talisman, and your feelings of heartbreak and betrayal are absolutely valid (I would even excuse the attempted theft of the talisman honestly, he was just trying to save them!) especially when he saw you as a son, BUT HOLY SHIT YOUR RESPONSE WAS TO BECOME A MASS-MURDERER! Yin and all those disciples didn't know anything about the talismans, you could have just killed the masters in a slightly less public way and have been basically fine! Jinfeng literally has Infinite Money Glitch: The Talisman, you guys can pay off anyone! I'm so flabbergasted at Yang I can't even express it fully. How do we come back from this bro 😭 I know Fajar actually did kill Yin and now they're besties, but Yang literally left her in a wuguan full of bodies!!!! She could've died or gone insane and Yang just allowed it! How tf was she supposed to turn away from vengeance when that's literally all you left her with! And the fact that she managed to do that anyway and you're just???? Punishing her for it in every way besides physically attacking her????
You know what? I'm gonna go fight Yang a bunch until I get an achievement or something, he deserves it!
Hehehehehehhh XDDD This was me while reading through your message lmaooo:
Tumblr media
That said, I think you're probably the first person I've seen who's gotten this angry at Yang (aside from a few other characters in the fic)! 😂 Game-wise, him reviving Yin in the prologue made the most sense to me out of all the other theories (not that there are a lot imo), and it also works with the implications of the post-credits scene, so I was more than ready to add it to the fic with maximum angst! XDD
Of course, this all means Yang is an even bigger douche than before 😅 There were a million other ways he could've gone about stealing the talismans without ruining Yin's life, but ah well, I had to stick to that part of canon for this fic 😂 I personally think he didn't have this mindset eight years ago; like, how much of his current thinking is actually him and how much is part of the talisman's influence? But even then, it was still a horrible move to make, especially where Yin was concerned (hence why I came up with the Dawn!AU where she lives! hehe). And his entire arc overall was one of my struggling points while writing, because how DO you come back from this? How do you have the happy ending with all the fluffy rainbow and unicorn feels?? Would a happy ending for this even be happy for Yin and Yang's relationship after all he's done to her? So that was quite interesting and tricky to work with XDD
All in all, I'm happy you enjoyed this chapter!! Though I'm sorry it got you worked up loll 😅 Hopefully beating Yang to a pulp helps! 😁 And no worries at all about the long messages; I really appreciate you taking the time to write all this!! Thanks again! 💗💗
