Ok, so we know that Stan makes really silly and cartoonish doodles but what if he could also draw really fucking good? Like, yeah, sure, he was discouraged from making comics, but maybe he still sketched stuff he saw from time to time. Stan was definitely the type of kid to sketch the girl he's crushing on on his notebook during class.

Anyway, cut to post Gravity Falls. They're in the Stan o' War II, and ig Ford is looking for something and he goes to his and Stan's shared room. He sees scattered papers and pencils on Stan's desk and he assumes it's another Lil Stanley comic. Curious, Ford moves aside some papers to get a better look at the his brother's drawing, only to be met with a really impressive and detailed drawing of the Stanleymobile. And he just goes "holy fuck".

They call it the Better World because Stanford Pines got everything he ever wanted

It came at a cost

But he could fix it; he had to. He had no other choice.

Cloning a dead man was difficult.

He kept having to make them younger and younger for them to have even a chance of survival.

But that was ok. He could make up a story. Maybe his brother got into an accident he couldn’t remember. Maybe the only way to save him was to keep him in some form of suspended animation. It was ok. They might not be twins anymore, but that didn’t matter; they’d always be brothers.

The second Stanley didn’t need to know the truth

Besides, Ford was his brother. He hung on to his every word. He’d never guess his twin would lie to him.

Basically this is my headcannon for what happened to Stan in The Better World; the original Stanley didn’t make it to far after being sent away with Ford’s journal. By the time anyone thought to look for him, it was too late.

Consumed by grief, Ford creates a second version of his brother. After multiple failed trials, he eventually discovers he can only grow a clone up to a certain age. Ford eventually settles for this child version of his brother.

The clone hatches at 12 years old, and contains all of his memories up to that age. It’s still his brother. And maybe this time, Stanford can spare this new version of his twin the pain he experienced in his “first life”

Steve Harrington obsessing over the time-traveling/time-freezing aspects of the upside down.

Steve Harrington enlisting Dustin to help him understand it all-

Because if he could just go back in time.

And tell Eddie everything he wanted to tell him. Or prevent him from being involved at all- to bring him back from the dead like they brought back Will, to his knowledge.

And maybe they harness that power. Maybe it works.

Maybe it works a bit too well.

Maybe Steve’s thrown back way too far- dropped within a dusty colosseum draped in light armor, the crowd jeering and shouting around him. And when he looks around, his gaze catches a pair of familiar, dark eyes, shooting daggers back at him from the royal box.

And Steve doesn’t understand- he wanted to save Eddie. Wanted to stop him from the doom he was to face on the fateful night- he wanted to go back to the beginning to prevent him from ever being involved…

But perhaps Eddie’s doomed design is built into the fabric of time. Intertwined through past lives. And saving them means saving Eddie.

So Steve falls in love with Eddie, in every little life. Protects him from an assassination attempt when gold laurels crown his head. Pulls him from the ledge of the roof when he’s an elusive, vengeful nobleman. Listens to his ramblings on music and literature when he’s a poor, Edwardian clerk. Captures his playful love when he’s an obsessive little rich kid.

And finally meeting him again in 1986. Having loved him in everything universe, he stops him from dealing to Chrissy.

When he returns to Hawkins, he’s afraid of what he might come across. It’s only been a matter of minutes in their world, but it’s all changed.

But Eddie is back- there’s a light in his eyes, his cheeks are rosy, he’s still playing Dungeons and Dragons with Lucas Mike and Dustin.

And best of all, he retires in Steve’s bed when the day is all over.
