idk what life is about. but I think it's about falling in love with something in the world. not the chase --- towards fame, fortune or money. the endless striving and productivity.

2021 fic recs [part 2]
Disclaimer: if you read any of the fics on this list (or fics in general tbh) don’t forget to leave kudos and comments under the ones you like!! take my word for it, it makes an author’s day when someone leaves kudos and comments under their fic, it really doesn’t matter how old the fic is!!
January to June can be found: here
***
July
like dominoes: @ifmywishescametrue
When a knee injury costs Bucky his spot on the college football team and his scholarship, he isn’t sure how he’s going to pay for tuition anymore. Until he meets Tony Stark, who somehow makes getting married to a stranger sound like a brilliant idea.
Every Step Of The Way: @stephmcx
Joe knows that if Steve really wants to do this, if he wants to transition and grow up to be a man, it will be a long and difficult road ahead. He also knows that he will be there for each and every step it takes, clearing the path as good as he can.
For Science: @riotwritesthings (nsfw)
Tony makes a very important discovery. In Bucky's pants.
Further investigation is needed.
Do we dare cross that line (Between your heart and mine): @five-wow
Danny grabs a dish towel and starts furiously rubbing the soapy spoons and cups Steve has already produced. “So what does ‘I’d have sex with you’ mean, exactly?”
Steve glances over briefly. “Danny, you have two kids. There’s no way you need me to explain this to you.”
Or: Steve does housework while Danny does a sexuality crisis speed run.
let me rearrange the world for you: @deathsweetqueen
So, basically, this is a 'what if Tony was kidnapped by HYDRA because he's Bucky's/the Winter Soldier's soulmate, and then, they had to go on the run together?' AU.
The title comes from one of Faraj Bou Al-Isha's poems, called Wait.
August
Family (Is always there): @/Sunnyqueen
Hey Tani-Tan,
I’m sorry I left like this but I didn’t… I didn’t want to give you a chance to talk me out of it. I know you are probably worried. I’m sorry about that, too.
I don’t want you to think you are a bad big sister. You are not, so stop it. And yes, I know you are thinking that.
I’m not running away. I promise. I just need some time away to find myself, y’know? Like the dude from dad’s old movie. Show. Whatever it was, you know which one I’m talking about. Anyways. Look, after everything with Alanna… It was just too much, y’know? There’s a sister rehab house in Idaho, so I’m going to go there. Stay a while, help some more people, visit the mainland.
We never really got to do that.
I’m coming back home for Christmas though! So don’t worry! And as soon as I get a new phone number I’ll call you, I promise. And maybe, if you want, of course, you could come visit me once I’ve settled down?
After Koa leaves, Tani finds herself drowning. But she'll come to realise that she is not alone.
Lightweight: @aleator
The super soldier serum in Steve's body means that he can't get drunk, which makes partying with his friends somewhat tiresome. Luckily, Thor has an idea to help with that.
Sunrise, sunset (there’s only you): @summerpipedream
Steve sighed.
Beside him, Sam coughed. “Even if you keep glaring at them like that, I don’t think you’re going to melt them with your mind.” Steve jumped, his sunglasses sliding down his nose as he looked away from Tony, gorgeous and tan in the sun, laughing at Tiberius’ joke. He took a swig from his beer with a grimace. “I’m not glaring at them.”
He wasn't.
#GaySpaghettiCouple: @five-wow
“What’s a gay spaghetti couple?” Steve asks, during the drive back to HQ.
Danny shakes his head at the road, because it’s as likely to come up with the answer as he is. “Do I look like I know?”
Or: Kamekona starts a social justice movement and/or meme, the answer to the question lies a lot closer to home than Steve and Danny think, and it's all kind of romantic, maybe, if you squint.
part of the job description: @soetrys (nsfw)
Clark attempted to flatten his hair and adjust his pants before he looked up, arching an eyebrow. "Do bodyguards usually do that?"
Where Clark is working undercover as Bruce Wayne's bodyguard and Bruce reaps the benefits of it.
September
“My Husband”: @riotwritesthings
Bucky and Tony move in together, get a cat, and get engaged. Only two of those things actually go, strictly speaking, according to plan.
The (only/best/most wonderful) Family I (could ever) Have:  @agentxthirteen
Tony and Sharon's parents are coming back from a Christmas party when their car crashes. With no one willing or able to take in Sharon, Tony makes a mistake - possibly the best one he's ever made.
‘Cause I’m aching and I know you are too: @frostysunflowers
"We’re getting too old for this," Rhodey grumbles as he shuffles under the covers, tossing his phone onto the bedside table.
"Don’t be a grouch, you know I’m your favourite teddy bear."
"You’re a pain in my ass is what you are."
"Are we talking about your ass again?"
"No, Tony, we are not - hey,  stop hogging the damn pillow, you’ve got your own!"
“But I like yours better. C’mon, it’s nice to share."
"I don’t want to share, get - AH! Why are your feet so cold?"
or
Five times Tony and Rhodey sleep together, and one time they sleep together.
if all else goes wrong, i’ll be alright: @omg-just-peachy
“It’s supposed to be a surprise, darling,” Tony tells him, smiling when he feels Steve’s arms wrap around him from behind, warm around his waist as Steve buries his face into the crook of his neck, breath tickling the fine hairs along Tony’s nape.
“Consider me surprised,” Steve smiles, still not lifting his head from Tony’s shoulder.
“Mmm. Did Erskine ever mention you being part koala? I have a theory,” Tony says, setting down a spoon and turning in Steve’s arms.
Or, 5 times Steve hugged Tony, and 1 time Tony hugged Steve.
kiss me until the sunlight cracks through: @coykoii
“For the record, I never wanted to lie to you.” He pushes a hand through his hair and looks away, his throat bobbing. “But how do you tell someone that you’re Spider-Man? And now everybody knows.”
“No, it’s okay. I get it. I figured it out anyway, so,” Michelle reminds him in a lighter tone, and his expression softens into something fond, lips tugging upwards just a bit.
“Yeah, you did,” Peter murmurs, not letting his eyes stray far from hers. “You were the only one who paid attention to me.”
“Lucky me.”
“Lucky me.”
OR: peter and mj find their way back to each other
October
the cuckoo bird: @/the_7th_swan
James Rhodes would do anything for Tony Stark.
Anything.
Excerpt:
James approached, drawing the smaller man into his arms. Tony fought him, drawing up fists and beating ineffectively at James’ chest as he cried. James let him, standing motionless as Tony wore himself out, finally slumping into James’ embrace.
“Why?” he demanded, hanging there limply and glaring up at James with eyes filled with betrayal.
“He hurt you,” James replied simply, reaching out to tuck a strand of hair behind Tony’s ear.
Tony’s lips quivered and he clenched his eyes shut to mask his disbelief. He seemed more surprised that James admitted it than he was by the declaration. James pulled him in closer and, helpless to resist, Tony surrendered.
Location Matters: @riotwritesthings (nsfw)
Pantries have never been on the list of ‘sexy’ places for Tony, but god, they might be now.
Vanishing Queens: @/nasri
“It won’t be the same, coming back to visit instead of just being here, you know? Being home.”
“It’ll be home again,” Tony says. His voice sounds strained, tense, like he’s trying to win an argument he knows he has a chance of losing.
“Probably,” Peter agrees. “But not like this. Because it won’t be mine in a few years. It’ll belong to some other kid from Forest Hills.”
Hit it, man: @five-wow
“What kind of world do we live in, anyway,” Danny asks, shaking open a paper from yesterday someone must have left behind, “where gay hitmen are a thing?”
Or: Steve and Danny go undercover. Kind of.
friends will be friends: @robertdowneyjjr
Steve and Rhodey sure are spending a lot of time together.
No, Tony doesn't have a problem with it at all...
But if Steve could go back to hanging out with his own James and stop hogging Tony's, that would be much appreciated, thank you.
November
in the refrigerator light: @omg-just-peachy
It's late, and the cold apartment combined with their rumbling stomachs had finally chased Steve and Tony out of Tony's bed and into the kitchen, determined to find something to eat. It's going on one in the morning, and the whole place has a kind of ethereal quality to it, like time has stopped somehow and it's just the two of them, alone in the world with the empty fridge and Tony's quiet kitchen.
even if it’s made to bleed (you know you can count on me): @omg-just-peachy
Tony’s injuries are relatively minor, mostly just bruises from where he fell, but still Steve worries at them with a washcloth, muttering under his breath about ice packs and tea.
He drops a kiss to Tony’s shoulder, right in the middle of a smattering of freckles. He thinks for a minute about how few people have probably done that, how he’s one of a set number of people who knows Tony Stark has eleven freckles on his left shoulder, and feels something in him settle.
Or, Steve takes care of Tony after a mission rattles him.
New At This: @betheflame
“Peter, please.”
Bucky knew his voice bordered on desperation, and that the kid could probably smell fear - did kids smell fear like dogs? Did he just refer to his boyfriend’s kid as a dog? - but Bucky was, in fact, desperate.
“I WANT DAAAAAADDDDYYYYYYYYYY,” the three-year-old wailed from his car seat. The car shook slightly as Peter kicked and flailed his body from the confines of his seat.
“Trust me, pal, I do, too,” Bucky said under his breath.
and that’s how it works: @ifmywishescametrue
Steve is on the other side of the door, a small smile on his face and a plastic bag in his hand that he lifts up into the air to show. “I brought reinforcements.”
Tony steps back to let him in and asks, “Who told you?”
“Your boyfriend told me,” Steve confesses, then amends, “Ex-boyfriend.”
building what i cannot break: @queenerdloser
“Stark’s not one for pity dates,” he says. “And he’s way more in your league than you might think.”
“You’re not seriously encouraging this.”
Iron Man shrugs. It still amazes Steve how fluid the motion is; he knows the suit weighs hundreds of pounds, knows it’s basically a tank, and yet Iron Man can still make such delicate, precise movements in it.
“I’m just saying.” Iron Man tilts his head. “The worst thing he can do is say no, isn’t it? And he won’t.”
“You can’t know that.”
Steve doesn’t know why, but he gets the impression Iron Man’s smiling when says, “You’d be surprised.”
hdm!au. steve isn't sure what to make of his new, daemonless teammate iron man. he's even less sure what to do with tony stark and his strange, albino daemon. tony, on the other, is just trying to make sure his secret identity stays secret. it'd really help if steve stopped confessing his feelings for tony stark to iron man.
December
a lie has no legs (to break): @gottalovev
When Steve learns that his childhood friend Bucky is part of a gang, as main enforcer, he quits his career in the Special Forces, determined to get him out of this mess.
He's stunned when he finds out that Bucky works for Tony Stark, who it seems isn't just a genius, billionaire, playboy and philanthropist running the most successful armament company in the country, but also controls New York City's seedy underworld.
But things are maybe not as they seem, and Bucky definitely doesn't want to be saved.
(Non-powered contemporary AU)
Memories Leave Bruises: @/Eqquator
The emotions in Peter had bubbled up through his throat, gluing closed his epiglottis, making him draw in deep, sucking breaths that somehow had no air. He tried to stay quiet, because some part of him couldn’t let Mr Stark see this, see how fractured he felt right now, like there was something splitting him into pieces from the inside.
Then Tony said, very gently, “Peter,” and Spiderman was crying on the floor.
It was the first time in eight days he’d had anyone call him by his name.
Iron Man sank to his knees to hug Spiderman into his chest. “What happened, kid?”
Peter talks to a ghost. He needs it.
Hold You Close: @/Retro_Memo
Following the months of Thanos defeat, Tony Stark thought everything would be fine. Sure, he was missing an arm but everything was supposed to be back to normal. It was.
Except for one small detail.
Peter was avoiding him.
where the love light gleams: (at the time of adding this to the rec list, the creator is anonymous as part of a fandom event)
Tony needs to prove to Pepper that he's moved on after their breakup--after all, she has. What better way than to claim that he's also seeing someone new?
Someone fantastic, someone impressive, someone better than Pepper's new boyfriend.
Steve. It's Steve.
Over Thoughts Of A Kiss: @playboyphilanthro-pissed
Rhodey was raised to be kind to everyone, no matter who they loved. This of course extended to his roommate, until it almost didn't.

welcome to the 2023 tumblr poetry smackdown
tumblr has developed something of a canon of poetry over the past couple years, and i figured others might enjoy getting a chance to voice their opinions on a few of those poems! poems i chose for the poetry smackdown had to be more or less widely read on tumblr (generally 10k+ notes, most with more or spread across compilations), and relatively short so as to make voting easier. they also had to be complete—there are a lot of popular lines floating around on tumblr that are excerpted from very long poems and/or poems that are inaccessible via internet, and those aren't included here. a handful of poets are represented here twice reflecting my sense of their popularity, but i arranged the bracket in such a way that it won't be able to stay that way past round 2 at the latest. if i missed a poem that is super popular i'm sorry, that said the bracket is staying as is because this was a shit ton of work to put together and i don't want to. ty.
you can get to the polls by following the links below or going to the #round1 tag on my blog. you can also send me propaganda if you want via ask and i'll post it/add it to the next round's post if the poem wins.
happy voting!
sincerely amelia @poetriarchy :)

“Don’t be scared, he said. Don’t be scared. I would never hurt you. It’s not just that I love you. You’ve become me, you became me, and how could I ever hurt myself?” — Margarita Karapanou, Rien ne va Plus (tr. by Karen Emmerich) THIS WOULD BE THE OPPOSITE WITH DIRK/KARKAT. “Be scared, he said. Be scared. I will hurt you. It’s not just that I love you. You’ve become me, you became me, and I’ve only ever ever hurt myself.” Other stuff that makes me think of dirkkat: "I can give you my loneliness, my darkness, th   hunger of my heart; I am trying to bribe you    with uncertainty, with danger, with defeat." — Jorge Luis Borges, Two English Poems
“WAIT do not leave yet. Let me rearrange the world for you.” — Faraj Bou al-Isha, Wait (tr. by Khaled Mattawa) “You can be graceful, not like a ballerina, like a hedge of coral, built up and eaten and worn down yet alive, carving the rhythms of the seas. You can be a threshing sledge, new and sharp with many teeth.” — Jeannine Hall Gailey, Okay, Ophelia “But love is impossible and it goes on despite the impossible. You’re the muscle I cut from the bone and still the bone remembers, still it wants (so much, it wants) the flesh back, the real thing, if only to rail against it, if only to argue and fight, if only to miss a solve-able absence.” — Ada Limón, from In a Mexican Restaurant I Recall How Much You Upset Me “What I mean is I hope you never stop being this thing this thing - drawing heaving plans in chalk, crouched like a wild thing, palms flat, face blooming, growing flowers under the world. A thing I cannot hold in my mind.” — arifables, from Loving You "                                                        how                                        could you not hear                  the size of the planet I whispered into your heart I was so much louder then" —  Anis Mojgani, from The Astronomy of This Thing “Can we love without greed? Without wanting to be first? Everyone wanted to pour his wine, to sit near him at the table. Me too. Until he was dead. Then he was with me all the time.” — Marie Howe, from The Teacher “YOU: Everything that is on fire can’t be saved. ME: Everything that is saved can’t be set on fire. [The entire lake turns over, & now YOU & ME are floating faceup.] YOU: Did you say something? ME: I’m pretty sure I said, I love you, too.” — Dalton Day, One-Act Play In Which We Float Facedown In The Center Of A Lake, A Position Known As The Dead Man’s Float “You can have my heart if you have the stomach to take it.”  — Yves Olade, Bloodsport “Humans in love are terrible. You see them come hungering at one another like prehistoric wolves, you see something struggling for life in between them like a root or a soul and it flares for a moment, then they smash it.” — Anne Carson, Plainwater "I love or I don’t — despair comes easily to me: Though I may never be yours, Nonetheless there’s such tenderness at times In your eyes, as though I am loved." — Dmitry Merezhkovsky, from She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not; 20th Century Russian Poetry “I know that you think you already know but— Wait Longer than that.even longer than that.” — Marie Howe, What the Silence Says “we’re still pulling. it is no longer enough to be gentle things;“ blood has too long a memory.” — Yves Olade, Hunters’ Moon “I am writing this to tell you something less than neutral, which is to say I'm sorry. It was never you. It was always you: your unutterable name, this growl in my throat. “ — Erika Meitner, from Staking a Claim “                                                                              I am asking you (as I stand with my back to you) to take my life in your hands and tell me whether I am doomed always to cause repulsion in those I love?” — Virginia Woolf, The Waves “Savior! I've no one else to tell -- And so I trouble thee. I am the one forgot thee so -- Dost thou remember me? Nor, for myself, I came so far -- That were the little load -- I brought thee the imperial Heart I had not strength to hold -- The Heart I carried in my own -- Till mine too heavy grew -- Yet -- strangest -- heavier since it went -- Is it too large for you?” — Emily Dickinson, 217 “A truth should exist, it should not be used like this. If I love you is that a fact or a weapon?” — Margaret Atwood, from We are Hard “and he: (and this was almost unbearable) he saw me see him, and I saw him see me.” — Marie Howe, from The Affliction “Bring us rest. Guilt is fecund. I knew nothing I made myself had enough steel in it to survive. I tried: I made beautiful paintings, beautiful poems. Fluff. Garbage. The inextricability of love and hate? If I had merely made you love me you could not have saved me.” — Frank Bidart, from The Ghost “I WANTED YOU I WANTED YOUR KISS ON THE SKIN OF MY SOUL AND NOW YOU SAY YOU LOVE ME AND I STAND DESPITE THE TRILLION TREACHERIES OF SAND YOU SAY YOU LOVE ME AND I HOLD THE LONGING OF THE WINTER IN MY HAND YOU SAY YOU LOVE ME AND I COMMIT TO FRICTION AND THE UNDERTAKING OF THE PEARL” — June Jordan, INTIFADA INCANTATION: POEM #8 FOR b.b.L.                                                                       I’m tired, can’t think of a thing, and my sole wish is to lay my head in your lap, feel your hand on my head, and stay that way through all  eternity— — Franz Kafka, from Letters to Milena “I held you, or I never held you, or I held you briefly, once, long ago, and you kissed me while my heart kept time.” — Kelly Cherry, from “First Marriage,” When She Named Fire: An Anthology of Contemporary Poetry by American Women  “A story of two people well suited to understand one another is destined to end…”  — Hélène Cixous, from “Olivier De Serres- A Single Passion Two Witnesses,” Love Itself: In the Letter Box “I don’t know how to be loved. I don’t know how to love.” — Daul Kim, from I Like to Fork Myself “When the deep purple falls, over the sleepy garden walls And the stars begin to flicker in the sky Through the mist of a memory, you wander back to me Breathing my name with a sigh In the still of the night, once again I hold you tight Though you’re gone, your love lives on when moonlight beams, And as long as my heart will beat, lover we’ll always meet Here in my deep purple dreams“ — Helen Forrest, Deep Purple “Is it the odour of blood, Or the scent of my beloved’s lips?” — Faiz Ahmad Faiz, from Feel and Listen (tr. by Sain Sucha) “I love you with all my bruised heart.” — Violet Trefusis in a letter to Vita Sackville-West “Are you following? The entirety of space, time, matter and energy is all happening at once in different timelines: It’s the idea of parallel universes. Right? So okay, let’s presume the multiverse is real. Well then, maybe somewhere in those infinite universes is one, or several, where I deserve you.” — Gaby Dunn, from Maybe In Another Universe I Deserve You “In the dream I don’t tell anyone, you put your head in my lap." — Richard Siken, from I Had a Dream About You “I condemn you. Yet my heart yearns towards you.“ — Virginia Woolf, from The Waves “Call me a sinner / Mock me maliciously / I was your sleeplessness, / I was you grief.“ — Anna Akhmatova, from Selected Poems; “I did not draw the curtains” (tr. by Judith Hemschemeyer)  “My body was an ache, a silence. It could not affirm how long it had waited for you. It could not claw or insist or extend its hands. It was just a stupid body, closed up and voracious.” — Stephen Dunn, from The Waiting “Look, we are not unspectacular things.       We’ve come this far, survived this much.       What would happen if we decided to survive more? To love harder?”  — Ada Limón, from Dead Stars  “Lived to see you throwing Me aside. That fought Like netted fish inside me. Saw you throbbing In my syrups. Saw you sleep. And lived to see That all. That all flushed down The refuse. Done? It lives in me. You live in me. Malignant. Love, you ever want me, don’t.” — Louise Glück, Hesitate to Call

hi cyrus! thank you so much for the ask!
