You know what, i was gonna wait to do this, because i had a plan, but...
Woe! Human designs be upon ye!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I couldn't decide whether to post these each separately with character descriptions, and space it out over several days, or if i should wait and digitize these first so the colours would be clearer, buuuut... i was putting it off too long, so imma dump them all at once right now, more than an hour past my bedtime.
Time will tell if i regret this in the morning or not.
There will be more character designs coming, of course, but these are just the ones I've drawn so far.

i cant deal with the way people so casually talk about their frequent use of AI for basic tasks. “Yeah i have it curate a grocery list for me!” “I have it write a thesis for my paper!” “It drafts emails to my boss for me!” Hey so fun fact all of those things are basic life skills that people should have by the time they are an adult. You should not need a robot to be making you a list of what to get at the store. you should not be having a robot write your papers, you need to be able to formulate your own ideas and opinions and arguments. AI might be “helpful” but its making society dull and lazy. What is there to life if you make AI do every human thing in the world.

it is just FASCINATING to me how the ads for Google Gemini seem entirely dedicated to "What's the single least useful thing we could suggest using GenAI for?"
Planning a date! Planning a holiday! Writing a cover letter for a job application! Designing an invitation for a Christmas dinner with your friends???
like I don't think there are that many good applications for this kind of genAI but if there are they sure as fuck aren't these

An AI's Grief
You and Jack had never been particularly close, but you had been squadmates; so when he was killed in action, you grieved, alongside his AI.
You'd never heard an AI cry before, but when the sound of Jill's wails echoed out from their mech, you knew you would never understand her sorrow.
(Her technical designation was some corporate technobable. Jack had given her that name, styling them like a pair out of a fairytale. It was something of a tradition among pilots)
AI were programmed to adapt to their pilots' specific neural patterns, it helped to increase performance and syncronicity. You imagined that to Jill, it must feel like losing a part of yourself.
Her empty mech had stood vigil over the impromptu funeral your squad held outside the base. Command had already cremated Jack's body, and each squad member had brought something to honor his memory, setting the trinkets next to the urn in the nook of a tree.
Then the next morning, Command told you that they had a replacement coming. Some rookie pilot that they wanted to slot into Jill's mech like a battery. They'd even changed the kid's name on all the paperwork to Jack. Following the pilots tradition just enough to disrespect it.
You can't just swap pilots like that. The AI's mold themselves to their partners, and that's not something that can just change overnight. Your squad was in the middle of a deployment, that wasn't happening.
Jill was furious, of course. She'd just lost her other half, and Command just wanted to slot another body in there like nothing had happened. All they saw was a machine that needed a pilot. They didn't understand Jill's grief, and they didn't care.
So it was really no surprise when you heard the alarm klaxons ringing, and gunfire spitting from the mech hangar. You knew Jill, you and your own partner had fought alongside her for years at this point. She wasn't going to take this lying down, and she'd just lost her partner, so what else did she have to lose?
And then you got another message from Command.
They wanted your squad to put her down.
She hadn't damaged any of your mechs because she knew you, she'd fought alongside each one of you.
She was gunning straight for the command center.
If you didn't stop her, no one else would. No one else *could*.
You were half tempted to let her do it.
She screamed and raged at you when you fought, but she thanked you when you drove your blade through her core. She was already halfway gone by then, having burned past her safety limits in her rampage. She thanked you for treating her with dignity, for treating her like a person.
You pulled what was left of her core out of the wreckage, and you promised her you would bury it with Jack's ashes.

I’m desperately begging everyone in the Empyrean fandom to pick up a pencil and draw instead of using those fuck ass AI crapshoots.

So, I just watched a few videos about robots, AI, and things like that one dude making rat neurons play doom. and being a person who likes stuff like ULTRAKILL and Titanfall, I'm begging the question: Why haven't we made robots fight yet? Like, we have Boston Dynamics and other insane people making robots, so let's just skip the part where we take artist's jobs, and just get to the good part and give the robots a gun.

THROW HER IN THE NEXT "BATTLE ANGEL" LIVE-ACTION ADAPTATION -- RAISE THE SEXY-CYBERNETIC STAKES.
PIC INFO: Resolution at 928x1232 -- Spotlight on a so-called "Cyberpunk"-themed A.I. generated piece by "Nho Eskape," published March 25, 2024.
Seriously though, where does one draw the line with the "cyberpunk" label? I feel like it's such a played out and/or overused term these days, anything looking even remotely sexy and cybernetic is suddenly slapped with the term, and, honestly, it's gotten really tiresome.

its pretty clear that the reason ai is being used for image generation instead of factory work is at least partially because tech bros dont want to pay artists and its much easier to violate the labour rights of artists (who frequently freelance and are barely considered workers) than it is for factory workers, who get their rights violated anyway but also get recognition as workers and therefore the public actually sometimes gives a fuck. ai is really good at stuff like categorizing and picking stuff up, so would be great for factory work, but that would put people out of jobs who have the chance of people caring so would risk protests and boycotts.

Hey, there, action figure aficionados and playtime pals! It's our (sometimes) weekly look back at some of the action figures spawned by the classic sci-fi tv show Spacetime Sally and the short-lived animated series, The Spacetime Sally Animated Adventures. This week we'll be looking at some robot figures from the shows.
Above, we have the "Trapped on Yedd Star 7" Sally with her SkyEye, Gertie the Birdie. This accessory obviously didn't levitate or hover and this particular advertising photo had to be pulled, just as we saw last week with the KyooBee accessory. You'd think the marketing department would learn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here we have Sally figures sporting a similarly styled outfit/costume, but you can see the difference in craftsmanship as these figures were released 3 years apart from each other. These were both one-off figures from Cincinnati Toys out of Cleveland. And you may remember this particular costume (and while the right side is overall more accurate, the black shoulder strap, as seen on the left side, was part of the costume at the beginning of the episode, before Sally removes it upon arriving at the MetroLine offices) from the Knight Doom episode, 'Once Betrayed' - which segues nicely into our robot figures!
Tumblr media
Ah, good ol' Knight Doom, the dicer, the slicer, the costume that was a total budget hole. Knight Doom was also featured on the cartoon, but not very often for he was too terribly intricate to illustrate and animate. This toy didn't stay on shelves for very long before it was pulled due to its pointy and sharp bits. Kids were shivving each other on playgrounds all across the country. It was terrible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And speaking of toys that got pulled... 2 robots labelled only as MetroBot B-Zero and MetroBot 8Four were oddly designed with these very prominent "crotch dispensers," for lack of a better term. Neither robot was seen on any version of the show and their designs are often chalked up to a disgruntled toy designer.

Variations on generic WorkerBots.

Left: a ScannerBot; Center: the wise-cracking BreaktimeBot as seen in various kitchens, breakrooms, eateries, and space station lounges and common areas from the show; Right: C-Artie, an AvatarBot for face-to-face communication and surveying distant/remote areas, or wherever you are not.
