The UK's latest stamp issue, Myths and Legends, features stirring artwork by Adam Simpson. However, we're not sure why the Royal Mail included the Loch Ness Monster in this set — Nessie is very real, and she is coming for you.
Pt. 1 here!

Finn "The Human" Mertens has (phoenetically) the same first name and initials (ish) as Fionn mac Cumhaill the Irish mythological hero and it took me, an avid folklore nerd, until ten minutes ago to connect that.

Making a dnd campaign based off of Scottish folklore. Can’t wait for them to meet Finn McCool. Can’t wait for them to seriously roleplay with a character named Finn McCool.

I haven’t posted about this yet, but after my partner and I got Married earlier this month, we brought home a kitten. His name is Fionn (Fionn Mac Cumhaill, leader of the Fianna) and he is the most rambunctious lad we have ever encountered. Here are some pictures!

Fun Fact:
One of the scariest creatures in Celtic folklore has gotta be the Caorthannach. Also known as the "Celtic fire-spitter" and believed by some to be the mother of Lucifer himself, Caorthannach was the name of an old witch that was part human, part serpent. Whenever she would emerge from her watery abode, she would wreak havoc, murdering travelers, burning down homes with families trapped inside and the rare few who evaded her initial torment would still be caught and devoured later.
The Caorthannach's reign of terror ended thanks to Celtic hero Finn McCool. He and his band of warriors lit her up with arrows and she died right on the spot. Except, a year later, a little turd named Conan broke her thigh bone, allowing a worm to crawl out and escape into a lake. That worm was Caorthannach and when she emerged out of the same lake fully grown and ready to terrorize a nearby town, Conan let her swallow him whole. Then he cut her open from the inside, beheaded her and threw her head into the lake. Her blood then permanently turned the lake red, and it was called "Loch Derg" or the "Red Lake" from then on.
Well she sounds... lovely, doesn't she?

Hey! So I read some very nerdy stuff, mainly Fairytales, folklore, myths, legends, that kind of stuff and I have decided to make a bookclub on Fable for that!
Right now I am reading The Green Hero and am using the bookclub to take notes and write my thoughts about each story, but if anyone would like to join I would be absolutely delighted!
Some other stuff I plan on reading in the future (on this very nerdy bookclub specifically) would be The Merry Adventures of Robinhood and Laboulaye's Fairy Book, among many others.
So if that sounds like something you might find interesting feel free to stop by! Whether it is just to read my notes, or to join in and converse!

Bit of a long story...
My name is Finn, and I named myself after the giant Finn McCool in Irish mythology. He created the Giant's Causeway.
Full myth from the Giants Causeway Tour website.
Here's the link if you want to read more.
https://www.thegiantscausewaytour.com/the-giants-causeway-story/#:~:text=The%20Myth,hurling%20them%20into%20the%20sea.
As legend has it, Northern Ireland was once home to a giant named Finn McCool (also called Fionn Mac Cumhaill). When another giant – Benandonner, across the Irish Sea in Scotland – threatened Ireland, Finn retaliated by tearing up great chunks of the Antrim coastline and hurling them into the sea. The newly-created path – the Giant’s Causeway – paved a route over the sea for Finn to reach Benandonner.
However, this turns out to be a bad idea as Benandonner is a massive giant, much bigger than Finn! In order to save himself, Finn retreats to Ireland and is disguised as a baby by his quick-thinking wife. When Benandonner arrives, he sees Finn disguised as a baby and realises that if a mere baby is that big, the father must be far larger than Benandonner himself!
Following this realisation, Benandonner rushes back to Scotland, tearing away as much of the Causeway as he can in his haste to put as much distance between Ireland and himself as possible. And thus, the myth of the Giant’s Causeway was born.

telepathy, the ability to communicate thoughts and manipulate others minds with just his own
magic, a dark form of magic is present in finn, as old as the origins of celtic paganism itself
compulsion, the ability to manipulate one's will with mere words and magical influence
astral projection, the ability to project his spiritual self from his physical self
healing, the ability to rapidly heal from wounds that would otherwise disable or be fatal
teleportation, the ability to transport from one spot to the other far quicker than any realm of human capability

I think we’re nearing the end of a Golden Era. After the finale of Good Omens is released, we’re going to be on a different footing. It will wrapped, it will be complete. We will have a whole story.
Thus far we’ve been able to hope, fear, speculate and dream—those opportunities will change dramatically after the finale is released.
I’m feeling all kinds of ways about that—it’s been a heck of a ride. ā€œRoller coasterā€ doesn’t do it justice. Despite the cracks and schisms that have appeared, the fandom remains a fairly friendly and wholesome place. I’m not a huge capital-F Fan; I’m not always obsessed with a story or a show (though I’m usually obsessed with something, be it crochet or raku). I’m not generally up on production schedules and don’t usually read about actors.
However, I’ve been in a few fandoms over the centuries, and I’ve seen them get much more toxic than this one is even now. I’m so grateful. Y’all are a fabulous crowd of angels and demons.
My deal is that I was pretty sure I was going to be disappointed with S3 from the beginning. The characters took root in my mind and, well, they’re mine now, the same way they’re yours, and, little by little, my head-canons have become real to me. This is normal for me—I figured I’d have to watch the whole thing a few times and see if my internal convictions would conform to whatever solution was offered to me. I don’t think I’ve ever gone from this point of the evolution of a story to the end without disappointment. That part hasn’t changed.
Because characters like Aziraphale and Crowley turn real, rather like the Velveteen Rabbit. They enter the company of mythological beings, along with King Arthur and Sherlock Holmes and Finn McCool, and there they will stay, an amalgam of thousands upon thousands of images of them in thousands upon thousands of minds. I love this for them.
But the finale will bring a sea-change, and we’ll be in a new era where all that goes forward is the mythology—and that will be a new jumping-off-point, but also the last foreseeable jumping off point we will have as a group. (A group of the thousands of us.)
I just want to say that I’m very glad to have been here in the Bentley for the ride through hellfire and tartan hills, and I’ll be here for at least a while longer, enjoying the view of the new countryside.
Heigh-ho, said Anthony Crowley.
