i’d like to imagine that it becomes something of a comforting ritual for both jason and his partner. him coming home from patrol, covered in blood and body still on edge from exerting himself too much. you’re worried sick because it’s the fifth night in a row where he’s come stumbling back at the crack of dawn and doing his damned best to hide the subtle wince with every step he takes, heavy boots weighing him down like cinderblocks wading through water.

after you’ve given him the signature ‘really?’ look, you’re helping him to the shower and tossing some pajamas and a towel in the dryer for when he gets out because you know what gotham’s everlasting rain can do to a person.

and once you’re in bed, head nestled against his chest and ear laid over where his heart is, you finally allow yourself to relax.

“so… how was your day?”

“jay, i don’t really think that’s the most appropriate conversation starter.”

he heaved a sigh, guilty as ever, and trails gentle fingertips along your spine. his touch was simple yet impactful, and it worked wonders on the anxiety plaguing your weary mind.

“i know, sweetheart, really. i just… i dunno. city’s not safe enough yet. i can’t stop until it is.”

his touch trails up a bit higher, working past your shoulders and up the nape of your neck until they finally begin to work along your scalp with a perfected graze.

“and you didn’t have to wait up. y’know i don’t like you staying up so late — you have to sleep sometime.”

you peer up at him with a bittersweet smile. “i’m always gonna wait up for you.”

jason presses a loving kiss to your forehead, eyes gleaming with nothing but pure adoration. “you’re everything i’ve ever dreamed of and more. i hope you know that.”

there was no way in hell you were going to tear up this late at night. though, you supposed, it could be considered morning, given that it’s nearly four in the morning.

you opted to deflect.

“shut up.”

“whatever you say, angel.”

his fingers began to work through your hair, carefully easing the knots out and allowing you to cling to him a little tighter. maybe you’d ask him to brush it once the two of you had gotten enough sleep. maybe you’d perch yourself upon the barstool at the kitchen island, book in hand as you read the next chapter of his newest read while he lost himself in your voice and the comforting mundanity that came along with a more domestic life. maybe then you’d be able to push aside the fact that your boyfriend was wanted dead by far more people than you’d like to imagine. maybe then you wouldn’t have to worry if one night you waited up just for him to never show up again.

“i love you, jay.”

i fear i may have went too angsty (i definitely did) so here are a few headcanons?? oops?? :D

i’d like to imagine that jason starts keeping a hair tie around his wrist just in case you ever need one. oh, is it hot out and you’ve forgotten to bring a clip to put your hair up with? don’t worry, jason’s already spinning you around and expertly tying your hair up like the good boyfriend he is.

oh, and he’s definitely gone down a rabbit hole on how best to care for your hair, no matter the length or hair type. he’ll be damned if can’t take care of you in every way imaginable.

playing and caring for your hair can be a bit of a grounding thing for the both of you. post-showers means he gets to tug you between his legs on the couch and get to work while you tell him about your day, gossip about whatever’s on your mind, or listen to him talk about his favorite books and why you should read them if you haven’t already.

jason also likes how easily he can get you to relax just by running the blunt of his nails along your scalp. you practically melt against him, and he has to mentally prevent himself from cooing out at you for the millionth time.

My sister made me a tea pet and I'm so happy! It's so fucking cute

I was a huge fan of the velveteen rabbit as a little kid. The idea that love makes things Real really resonated with tiny me. And the idea that tea pets gain a soul over time from being used and being fed tea reminded me. So my sister made my a little bunny!

His first tea bath is an old tree shou puer from my favorite local tea shop @friday-tea

Making up headcannons for each character on the fly, here we go!

I see the entire group as one big found family lol

Yashiki: He gives off girl dad vibes, having a sister helped with that. He does hairstyles for the younger Mark Bearers from time to time and can help out with things like outfit decisions, or getting his nails painted as practice. Has a keychain of a black rabbit on his car keys as a reminder.

Saya: She learned to crochet just so that she could make little hats and other pieces for her rabbit, Muu. She would also make pieces for Yashiki to use for the dolls he would make.

Moe: The snack connoisseur, she goes to the local convenience stores to check for new ones constantly. Always has something with her. Having a club meeting? She brought snacks for the whole group. Feeling down? Here's something to cheer you up. Special event? She has the seasonal exclusive. If you ever need a little treat, she's got you covered.

Tsukasa: Isn't allowed to have a pet since his parents are a bit strict about his studies, they think it would just be a distraction. It doesn't stop him from taking care of the stray cat that lives behind his house though. The only other person who knows about its existence is Moe, who helps bring cat food, and every once in a while treats. Moe keeps telling him to name it, but Tsukasa doesn't want to, he doesn't want to become too attached in case something happens to it.

Mashita: The reason his dexterity stat is so low is due to an accident that happened while working in the force. While not disabling him, it has left him with much lower dexterity than what he had before. He doesn't tell anyone about this, because he hates feeling vulnerable. But as he warms up to everyone more, he eventually goes to Daimon about it, who shows him hand exercises to do to help build it up again.

Shou: Has a doting mother, but an absentee father, so he looks up to Mashita and Yashiki quite a lot. He wanted to learn the drums, but his mom ended up putting him in violin lessons growing up, so he's surprisingly good at it. He gets flustered if it's ever brought up. Currently he is self taught on drums, Ai asked if he'd like to be the drummer for one of her concerts once. He declined, wanting to make sure he was at a good level first before doing any performing.

Christie: Being a news reporter, she is able to get a lot of information from her sources, meaning she knows of all the best restaurants and cafés in the city. She likes to take the other Mark Bearers to try things with her sometimes, like being the first to try a new restaurant that just opened up, or visiting a fusion cafe for a coffee date. From high end sushi, to a hole in the wall family owned restaurant, from a cutesy dessert buffet, to rows of Izakaya, she's a foodie at heart. Definitely the rich aunt type, who likes to spoil the younger Mark Bearers. In moderation of course.

Suzu: After the Hanayome case, she gained a whole new appreciation for animals. When she's not at home doing chores or homework, she likes to volunteer her time at the local animal shelter. Her calm demeanor makes her quite popular in the cat room specifically. Plans on becoming a veterinarian one day.

Eita: Ends up finding his calling working in the IT department as the rise of the internet begins, making it a very well paying job at the time. Despite his otaku nature, his favourite anime genre is actually just Slice of Life. Christie is his plug for collaboration merchandise being sold at cafes or restaurants, he pays her back of course.

Yasuoka: Quite the fashionista, has a colour coordinated outfit for any lucky colour her fortune gives her that day, but when asked, she'll say her favourite colour is periwinkle. She took up embroidery as a hobby, so when she's not out and about reading fortunes and receiving information on spiritual happenings for Yashiki, she can be found stitching patterns onto omamori charms that she gives out to those who need them.

Ai: Was able to get clearance from her manager about a specific VIP pass to her concerts just for the Mark Bearers, and is always happy to see them after a show. Dedicated a song to the group and what they had gone through together. She once tried to set up a personal concert at the Mansion with herself on vocals, Yashiki on piano, Daimon on guitar, and Shou on drums. It was.... interesting. To say the least.

Hiroo: After a long day at work, her favourite way to unwind is renting a session at a karaoke booth and ordering some drinks. She only sings by herself and when she's drunk, as she's a bit self conscious about her voice. But she's actually pretty decent, if you ignore the drunken slurring and giggling. When warmed up to the others a bit more, she'll invite Daimon, Christie, and/or Yashiki. However these musical get-togethers are strictly a "No Mashita Zone" since she doesn't want him having any dirt on her while she's inebriated.

Daimon: Really likes high energy music, and used to go to raves when he was in his prime. Nowadays he can't really do any of the moves he used to without going into an aggressive coughing fit, but he can be stubborn when he wants to be. Appreciates when the younger Mark Bearers shows him newer music, helps keep him in the know. Always tries to make it to each of Ai's shows, his support is felt through how fast he ends up waving the glow sticks, immediately followed by another coughing fit. Promised to help Suzu get into medical school if she was still interested in becoming a veterinarian when the time came.

Banshee: Now that his "home" was purified, he now has more access to the underground system, and is able to make it all around the city fairly fast without interruption. However doing this to get to different manholes around town has caused him to become somewhat of a cryptid to the public, and he absolutely loves it. The only people who go under to meet him are Hiroo and Daimon, for check ups and to hear more about their ancestors and the history of the place. Everyone else meets him on the surface, either on purpose or by chance. They have a special code that echoes through the underground so that he can make his way back to see them at the meeting spot. He goes to the mansion himself whenever he wants to raid the pantry give Yashiki a visit.

Johan Speaks! 🗣🔊💎 | Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V TFSP Re-Translation Project (WIP)

Good news, everyone! 🧓🏽

So, thanks to chrisfand and I doing some digging over on a Tag Force modding Discord over the past 1.5-2 weeks (chrisfand's been around doing various TF-related mods, and after I saw some discussion about doing this, I got curious and swallowed a bit by a rabbit hole), we've figured out how to add spoken in-duel dialogue back to those who weren't given any! Likely one of the more disappointing things about how TFSP cut corners compared to the earlier games (while still fun of course), only the 25 characters with story events across each series's world gets spoken in-duel dialogue out of the box--and in digging through the file that boots the game/runs a bunch of code/has a bunch of text like the character names (the EBOOT file), we found that, rather than some deeper code setting a flag for enabling the others from Yugi and Shou in DM and GX all the way to Yuto and Shun in ARC-V and the TF/WDC-exclusives to have voices, there are hex pointer bytes for each character pointing to where the game should find their respective voice folder path on the disc to store in memory and then load the audio files from, and they were simply set to some empty space for everyone who's not the primary 25 (with folder paths for them not included). Finding some space in the Eboot to write in the folder paths for everyone, and starting with Johan as a test, I updated Johan's pointer accordingly and the game properly loads the voice pack I set up for him!

[More on that below, but tl;dr current plan is still getting the base game re-translated as-is while also setting up for a "deluxe" version with all this added in after that along the way]

For Johan's voicelines here, I pulled audio mostly from Tag Force 3 and tried to stick as close to his Japanese in-duel lines here as doable, but some lines are different vs TF3, so I pulled from Duel Links or Duel Terminal voicelines as needed (for example, Johan's duel-starting line about wanting to see his opponents' best [said to Judai in GX 106] here doesn't include the bit about "using up our skills/that's the kind of dueling I go for!" and instead his text is just the first part and then "Let me see the power you've got in ya!", but being the closest to what that is, I used that line. I also added his attack line with Rainbow Dragon near the end, figuring out how his line parameter file works and grabbing audio from Duel Terminal for it (how did he not already have an "Over the Rainbow!!" line), and while not shown here, there's his loss line, "People like you being out there's why I can't stop dueling!", which I grabbed from two Duel Links lines and edited to combine them into one file. There'll likely be similar editing involved for compiling voice packs for everyone else (and grabbing WDC and even maybe Wheelie Breakers audio, as apparently a handful of people like Himuro in 5D's were non-duelable in earlier TF games--for everything else, I'll probably scrape the anime, which I did here because, fun fact, Johan has in-duel lines for a "hehehehe" [heard in the video's cold open] and "hahahahah!" but he doesn't have audio in TF3 saying them; these being callbacks to his and Judai's duel vs Fujiwara, I grabbed the lines in question from GX 175 and ran them through Ultimate Vocal Remover to solid results). Leveling the volume some wil likely also be needed since, while I did my best with Johan's lines here, they are a bit quieter in spots than they probably should be. We also want to look at adding the newly-voiced characters to the Voice Test list so that comes up in the Database for them, but that'll be a later thing.

SO. All that being said, currently the plan's still to go on with getting the base game re-translated as-is, while setting things up for a later "deluxe" version. Along with voices/all there, I'll likely also want to add in lines for the different summon methods that GX-ZEXAL characters don't have (those get stock "I Special-Summon a Monster!" lines) and edit their voice packs accordingly with them. But some neat progress here (even briefly picked up assembly language thinking it might be needed lol). Stay tuned!

Since this is gonna be a personal view of me going through MK1 and I have been giving you the design perspective of Reptile, let's look on my personal take of the lore as my excuse to tell you how much I like him

First things first, I consider myself pretty new in MK, being my introduction to it was MK11. Due to how small the roster was, I didn't know Reptile was present at all. To my personal view at the time, he was just...another lizard monster jobber like Baraka. I admit his design in MKX was badass, but that's pretty much it.

Going into MK, I'm not sure if I'm gonna like it, knowing how they treated my first floodgate character in MK11 being Sindel. As I stated about Reptile, I love Sindel's design. I can see how she was probably inspired by Elvira(idk who that is but she looks exactly like her so lmk) and her MK11 design being a love letter to the Mortal Kombat movies back in 1995. Most MK11 character designs are, in exception to... Liu Kang and Kung Lao, for some reason, and well, the new additions(either brought in from MKX or completely new)

Safe bet they still haven't get a permission from Robin Shou to capitalize on a Liu Kang skin. Will be nice if they have it tho.

So, how did I get here?

Strangely enough, it was because I went down a YouTube rabbit hole and someone sent me the "KK in a wheelchair" meme.

Then I discovered SonicHaXD, then the other guys next to him, TrueUnderDawg and the4thSnake.

I already know the4thSnake from his Tekken videos so it wasn't as big of a jump to try looking at other lore-related stuff he did with MK. The leap of faith, however, was in TrueUnderDawg, since he was mostly sharing gameplay-related videos. I already despised him for using AI-generated image as a thumbnail while a quick edit using official renders wouldn't hurt anyone, or yk...pay an artist?

...and there comes the lore parts and I fell down the Reptile hole.

Watching the lore videos I was like

Learning that he was one of the OGs, next to Sub-Zero and Scorpion, on top of his lizard ability making him...basically a Reversed Druid, was the biggest bombshell dropped on me because how could NRS decide to fumble him

I saw him again in the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie, but then again, he's just...another lizard guy jobber. I love that his story revolved around him, being the last Saurian that only wants to help his people to have a new home after Shang Tsung pretty much fumbled them...like the NRS writers fumbling him on every turn. Even the 3D Era shows no mercy to his lore for him to only show up as a vessel for Onaga.

Then I heard those leaks about Reptile joining in M1K. My heart was racing like hell, thinking they would probably fumble him even worse.

And then...the reveal

And I read the official bio they gave to him, which so far, I am completely in love with the way it took a different twist from the original lore. So instead of him being the last hope of his people, he was betrayed by them for being what he is.

Although I would find the joining a circus part is unnecessary, and the part where Shang Tsung took his family, doesn't have to be a wife and child. I understand they want to draw parallels once Baraka got his own chapter to spare Syzoth, but the "family" can be...his own parents or relatives. Maybe he used to have brothers or sisters, knowing reptilians lay eggs in batches, even off-season and for crocodiles, whether the baby is gonna be male or female is decided according to temperature of environments where the egg was laid.

And to a case of Komodo Dragon, the hatchlings would immediately climb trees because the parents tend to cannibalize their own babies, which works well to Syzoth's narrative of being "the odd one's out" on a constant survival mode from birth, because...even his parents didn't want him, but he didn't know that so he often blame himself for showing his human form one time and wished he never did, while also thinking that living with humans as a Zaterran with the ability to look "human" is a psychological torture on itself, considering his diet consist of bugs or even human flesh to some extent.

We could keep the traveling part because he would stumble on Shang Tsung currently on his travel to look for some ingredients of his drugs and thought that guy could probably "cure" his affliction, and helped him with his researches through any means; either stealing some shit or kill some shit. He didn't care about the consequences for as long as he believed Shang Tsung can help him, to the point of General Shao trusting them with Mileena's treatment...

...until Shang Tsung decided to stab him on the back by using Syzoth's abilities against him—staging murders in favor or General Shao and throws all the blame at him, giving an excuse for General Shao and his men to hold Syzoth's family in hostage, to the point of our main Story Mode.

Syzoth was like "You promised to cure me. We had a deal!"

But Shang Tsung was like, "There was never a cure, Syzoth. You're just born like that. Oh, and I got rid of your family. They never want you anyway."

Syzoth, holding a pent up anger, really wants to take it on Shang Tsung, but he's already gone. No family, no home, and nowhere to go. He was in a conflict, not only with Shang Tsung, but also with himself. He hates that Shang manipulated him, but he also hates to accept that his family never loved him for what he is, only for another person to abuse him again...for what he is and what he can do. He's constantly living in fear of being alienated, so he did everything he knew to gain some sort of validation, or even affection, only to make things worse on his end. His journey was for him to learn not only to accept the multiple facets of himself, but also a healthier relationship with others.

Especially knowing this would align much better with his Tower Ending. Though on my personal Headcanon, he got a job as Royal Emissary to bridge a connection between Outworld and Earthrealm, where Kenshi's "Special Forces" route comes in.

Though a personal story of how I end up shipping Syzoth and Kenshi, is gonna be a separate story to tell

I made Ukuwa's motif Hydrangea after a trip to the Hydrangea Shrine.

He's extremely picky about food and drink tempretures, like, it has to be just right or he'll tear you a new one

Personality

A hardworking, judgemental and esteemed horologist. Time means everything to Ukuwa and he always seems to be in a rush! He is nicknamed 'Shibuya's White Rabbit' since he is often spotted dashing around the streets mumbling about schedules.

Ukuwa is strict and harsh but especially towards himself. He hates relying on people and prefers to get things done on his own. He is extremely counter dependent. If absolutely necessary, he takes extreme care in picking who to have around. He mostly sees people as tools for his own convenience. He calls people 'cogs'.

He has a very good eye for art and is passionate about design. He doesn't get excited often but when it comes to art, that is the one time his eyes light up.

Ukuwa's character arc is about slowing down and embracing the moment, being able to acknowledge your progress, allowing yourself to accept help and allowing friendships with unconditional love to blossom.

Backstory

tldr; He is the CPTSD haver ever - Trigger warning for: child abuse, neglect, divorce

An only child who did not have his emotional needs met. Ukuwa was raised by an abusive, alcoholic father who was a electronics technician and a neglectful mother who was a highschool teacher. Both his parents had high expectations towards him right away. Failure to perform with the best outcome would result in: solitary confinement + hitting/whipping as punishment whether that be in school, house chores, or even going out. He has scars all over his hands as a result which is why he wears gloves all the time.

Ukuwa would be locked in an empty room after a rough beating to 'reflect on his actions' for hours, his only company being clocks. This is where his obsession with clocks started. Curious and bored, Ukuwa would start to disassemble clocks at a young age to figure out their workings. One could’ve gone insane, but Ukuwa was grateful that the clock would tell him when the pain was over and he could see the light again.

His parents divorced when he was in middle school, both of them getting newer partners with other children. This applied extra pressure onto him to perform well. Unfortunately, Ukuwa was often casted aside in favour of his step/half siblings. He is desperate to prove that he isn't a burden. In fact, that's a really big fear of his.

Ukuwa functions on guilt and shame. His fear of being a burden and a failure is what causes his workaholicism and lack of care towards himself. He pushes forward and only forward. He does not allow himself to rest. Time only moves forward, and so he wants to move only forward too.

This means that he's chronically counter dependent and refuses help when it is offered. He avoids connecting with people unless it's absolutely necessary and for business purposes. Because one less person to be around means one less person to be a burden and disappointment to.

Ukuwa saved up a lot as a child just to move out and to escape his family. Once he graduated from high school, he immediately moved out to Tokyo and has been living in a sharehouse.

He currently attends a college of jewelry in Shibuya, learning how to make clocks of all kinds. He is obsessed with Il Cavallo Del Re and dreams to design clothes and watches for them.

Now, I don't usually have my OCs getting TOO involved in canon but this is sort of an exception (though Ukuwa does not effect TWEWY mainplot) *puts hands together* So where does he fit into TWEWY? WELL-

One day, when he was rushing around mumbling about time and being late, he got caught up in a sinkhole and he dies. (Haha, ironic bc of his nickname which references the rabbit in Alice in Wonderland) He was already feeling terrible because his clock design didn't get included in this competition he had participated in.

But he lands himself in one of Minamimoto Shou's earlier Reaper Games. At this point, Shou hasn't discovered Taboo bullshittery. This game takes place a while before Neku comes along.

His entry fee was his concept of time. This means that he cannot even see the timer on his phone and can only recieve missions. Ukuwa is hyper vigilant (thanks cptsd). That means he's extra sensitive to light and sound. He has several clocks on him with different 'voices' that soothes him. Suddenly, he can't hear them anymore and that throws him off real bad.

He gets grabbed by a straight-for-pay lesbian hostess and party girl, Hana, admist the panic of Day 1. She grabs him because he looks 'reliable' and wealthy. (she was wrong. Ukuwa is gay and he only looks wealthy because the clothes he wears is what he designed and he's good with his hands)

Hana forms a pact with him, wanting to take advantage of him like she usually does with men because she treats them like wallets. Her entry fee was money, so she cannot spend money throughout the game and has to rely on stingy Ukuwa. Ukuwa has to rely on Hana to keep track of the time.

They start off pretty rocky at first because Ukuwa doesn't have patience for her antics and Hana gets frustrated by how Ukuwa is so careful with how he uses his money and how he doesn't seem to know how to have fun.

Ukuwa's pysch is cryokinesis. Because you know. Time has literally stopped for him. He can summon icicles and walls of ice. Hana has immense strength and smacks the shit out of noise with her purse. They become quite a good team throughout the week.

Ukuwa starts to enjoy the moment instead of trying to push forward and ignore his feelings, and Hana learns that partying and drinking won't solve all of her problems.

Tldr, he falls in love with Shou so hard and he already struggles with feelings of uselessness in the RG so he ends up becoming a reaper. Their relationship happens very quickly and it's veeeery toxic (but that's what makes it tasty)

If you wanna know the deets about UkuShou-

Ukuwa x Shou

Ukuwa is immediately intruged by Shou's trash heaps. The symbolism and the cynycism towards humans speaks out to him. It's the first time he really feels connection towards someone. The precision of the trash, how it's held up so sturdily and is obviously so deliberate is impressive to him. Hana tries to snag a piece of trash that looks useful as a weapon and Ukuwa yells at her and puts it back. He calls it an art installment.

He doesn't know that Shou is the artist behind the heaps. Not until the trash cat turns up anyways. He actually finds Shou insufferable and annoying at first. The yelling into the megaphone is pretty triggering to him and he doesn't hesitate to throw an icicle at Shou. When he finds out that Shou is the artist though, he can't help but grow more and more curious.

When Shou hears Ukuwa praising his art, he's pretty confused at first. He normally doesn't care if measly humans can't understand his art's brilliance and beauty, so hearing Ukuwa reading his piece like a book is different and a little unsettling. One part of him is happy? But the other part of him just doesn't want to admit that he's understood.

So throughout the week, he makes more unhinged art pieces and challenges Ukuwa to guess the symbolism and he denies how correct Ukuwa is every time. It's annoying how bright Ukuwa looks when he talks about his art. But it's also really endearing too.

Anyways, Shou grows curious about Ukuwa and it's a running theme that he tries to interrogate him in closed spaces like alleyways, the phonebooth of love (where they share their first kiss) and changing rooms. They bicker, argue, talk about art, the mission, etc.

Ukuwa is a stupid baby gay and he starts seeing Shou as a person and he starts to understand and speak in maths lingo too. Shou becomes so fascinating and beautiful to him so he makes the extra effort to get to know him. He has the biggest crush and Hana notices too- Even trying to set them up in her own silly way.

I should prolly mention that I hc that Shou is colourblind and has protanomaly colour blindness (weak to red/green) and like.

Shou vision Ukuwa is vibrant and pretty it's insane.

I fully agree with Kiga's Shou HC and I think Shou had his art criticized in the past due to his questionable colour choices which lead to him making more sculpture stuff than paint. ANYWAYS-

Shou eventually accepts that he is understood by Ukuwa and by the time it's day 7, he realizes that actually, he kinda doesn't want Ukuwa to die in his hands. Luckily, Shibuya's Reaper's Game rules at this point aren't exactly solid yet and Shou being Shou finds loopholes. On the last day, there are a few surviving duos that reach the top of Pork City to fight Leo Cantus. This is when Ukuwa tosses humanity right out the window and he essentially erases all remaining players aside from himself and his partner Hana.

He's under the impression that one of them will have to die so he tells Shou that he'll gladly 'give him his movement' and die in his hands, but Shou cannot bring himself to do that and asks him to stay and add art to this world with him.

Tldr, thanks to the loophole of mission mail wording, Ukuwa is able to become a reaper and the two become even more inseparable.

They are very horny and very obsessed with each other. Ukuwa drops everything for love. Unfortunately, Ukuwa is a needy bitch and he relies on Shou for his dopamine. Shou is a free spirit and he likes his space so the relationship falls apart after a few months.

Ukuwa is actually the one that dumps Shou because he was 'five minutes and twenty three seconds late to our date'.

This hurts Shou's pride a lot because how DARE he get dumped. But here's the thing- they keep banging anyways. They are like magnets. And Shou is SO smug about it too. Because Ukuwa is in denial about still having feelings but he keeps going back!

I have yet to play NEO but after Shou dies in TWEWY Ukuwa acts like a fucking widower and he has a relapse with his workaholism. Kariya really helps him loosen up and enjoy the moment.

When Shou is revived in NEO, Ukuwa is like a sobbing mess. I imagine by then, Ukuwa has grown as a person more and he has learnt to give Shou space so they end back together. Shou also learns to have some empathy and stop being so selfish and finally apologizes (shocking) and they get back together. With their bond stronger than ever, they end up having a daughter (light puck baby) named Miu who is almost as unhinged as they are. She LOVES physics. She's a genius. And also a super powerful angel but I'll explain that another day LOL

I'm finally getting the motivation to go back to my longfic, Victims to an Unholy Sophistry (the workload/personal issues I've been dealing with have really been my getting in my way! ^^") and assigning animalistic features to characters have been a big part of that story!

Of course, Yashiki is a rabbit (lop-eared, naturally), Mashita is a cat and Shou is a puppy.

I was at first not sure about Moe and Hiroo, but i picked fawn for Moe, due to her big eyes, curiosity and innocence. For Hiroo it was finally a mouse, shrewd, also curious yet brave when needed. Also 'lab rat' haha!

Ai was a songthrush and Mary... is a secret right now but I haven't thought of anything for Daimon and Christie. I'm not the best at animal kinning.

It's interesting to think about all the mark bearers/companions in Death Mark going up against the NG companions in a battle royale type Persona Arena style crossover.

For example: Who would win in fight and would hit it off and become friends/rivals? There's some match-ups that are pretty close in terms of personality/interest. Consider ...

Shou vs Amanome -- I feel like they would hate each other and want to rip each others throats out. Shou is too (secretly) kind-hearted to stand up against a Yakuza's son with unlimited connections and a sadistic streak. Mashita vs Ooe -- Cop on cop violence. I think they would grate on each other's nerves at first glance (considering Mashita's tarnished past), but gain a mutual respect for one another. If they went toe to toe, I have a feeling Ooe would win, but it would be a very, very close fight. 🤏 Together as a team, they would be virtually unstoppable.

Natsume vs Saya -- I think they would have a lovely time chatting about spirits over tea either at the Kujou mansion or at the Black Rabbit Bar. Saya tells the aspiring horror author tales about her spirit work and while Natsume's concerned for the woman's safety and the danger of it all, she is also on the edge of her seat listening. Their meetings fuel the writer's muse for new horror novels.

Then there's pairs that are likely not to stimulate much

Hiroo vs Ban -- Even with thier respective first-hand encounters with spirits, I don't see these two getting along, let alone being interested in each other's work. Ban is too fueled by guts and passion and instinct. Hiroo focuses more on fact, letting other others take charge, providing tips and moral support, but with Ban all she can do is criticize.

Christie vs Rosé -- They're both well mannered career women used to the spotlight. I think they would tolerate each other, attempt small talk, but I have a feeling Christie wouldn't like Rose's flashy style and would make many off-handed remarks about it. The reporter is a much more modest woman with societal norms views and I think she would try to get the magician to tone things down. Rosé is not about to let her cramp her style, preferring her life as it is. Maybe, if they can manage some middle ground and put aside their differences, they might be come really good friends later on down the line.

Death Mark AU: Protagonist!Swap Saya Kujou

I managed to get it done on her birthday! Everyone, say hello to the hero of our Protag!Swap AU: Saya Kujou!

Why yes, that is her brother’s coat she’s wearing. But she doesn’t know that by the time the amnesia takes hold of her. All she knows that she woke up with this coat wrapped around her and for some reason, she refuses to be separated from it.

And yes, Masamune did give her that coat during his last moments of being fully in-control.

Saya Kujou is a character I feel like a lot of fans could interpret in their own way since she was, ya know, dead when we first meet her and all we got for her characterization was from her being a voice in her brother’s head in the main game. So, she was dead and loves her brother; time for the Dark One to get her hands dirty.

In my previous post I had mentioned a little bit of Saya, how she was initially the one who was accidentally the one responsible for her brother’s possession since she was the one who damaged Mary’s doll body. It was here that things changed; Saya was originally Marked by Hanahiko, like in canon, but she found out just how fast the amnesia was affecting Masamune. So, with her own death close, Saya attacked Mary.

“If I go down, I’ll take you with me!”

Cue Butterfly Effect; Mary get’s so pissed off that not only does she possess Masamune when he manages to make it to the Kujou Manor, but she takes over the Mark on Saya so she essentially becomes HER victim.

Well, now the backstory is out of the way, time to get into a bit of Saya’s character within the story; she’s been portrayed as the more outgoing of the two siblings in canon, being the face for the Kujou family despite her brother being the Head at the time. With that in mind, I like to think she’s very motherly while also having the ability to kick your butt. Like I picture all the younger Mark Bearers just flocking after her like ducklings — yes, even Shou and Tsukasa even if they don’t want to admit. She’s like that fun teacher you have that tries to make lessons interesting while also being brutally honest about things.

Due to her more blunt nature and her not having memories of being a Spirit Healer, I imagine Saya to be viewed as reckless and too outgoing amongst the adults. She’s a woman who marches to the beat of her own drum, especially when she’s not putting on a polite facade at conferences. This particular character trait came about when I remember that, as the black rabbit, she literally took the FLIPPING NENJINBUTSU out of the shrine before it was fully cleansed and kept it with her when she went to fight Mary!

…Suffice to say, Saya would definitely be the person to do something random or possibly life threatening just to see if it works. She often gives her adult companions heart attacks.

For some reason, I actually view Saya and Mashita as not getting along with the other. But not like hate each other, just two people who don’t get along but are forced to work together and are slowly coming to respecting each other. Don’t ask me how I came to that conclusion cause I don’t know how I got to that point either. I think I just found it hilarious that Saya would think Mashita is a degenerate only to realize that her brother like-likes him! 🤣

Speaking of her brother, let’s talk about Saya and the possessed Masamune! During the beginning, Saya was told that Masamune was her family butler and she believed. While her memories of her brother may be gone, her heart still knows him so while it does lead to her getting manipulated by Mary, Saya easily trusts Masamune and has come to rely on him for information on spirits.

But as the Chapters go on and each of the Mark Bearers tell her their tale of Masamune’s strange behavior, Saya starts to get suspicious. She still wants to trust him but even she realizes that something is wrong with him; how he appears to be light-headed, seems to be nauseated all the time, not to mention that one time he grabbed her arm and how his eyes seemed to flash with… Something.

With that, I think I’ll leave things here for now. I’ll probably do more doodles on a future date. Until then, enjoy this picture of Saya and Masamune.

Odd things in Shou's room. #1

Shou's room doesn't look anything out of your regular teenager, stray clothes, posters on the walls, gaming consoles and unorganized school books, with a touch of his hobbies here and there, painter tools, sketch books, large canvas frames, drawings on papers sticking out from between school notes and manga magazines, but never any art on the walls. A quick in and out wouldn't give you an impression of anything out of ordinary, but once one makes their place in Shou's life, once he allows them in, they get to notice relics he isn't exactly proud of, marks that Claw left, ironically.

Under his bed and out of sight, there is a bunch of notebooks, old worns out colorful notebooks, completely filled with notes collected from his last three years of work with Claw, his job as his father's "errands boy" paid off in the form of rich intel that he made sure to jot down to remember. His job technically involved keep an eye on the various Claw divisions, and since he was planning to tear down the whole thing to the ground, he made sure to get valuable information with each visit, ie; location of the bases, names of their scars and their division leaders, their powers, their sponsors, from where do they get supplies and where do they keep them, their various connections to businesses, contractors, black market dealers, and even state employees who were paid to look the other way while Claw did their things, and many many other things that even Claw's boss wasn't aware of.

The notes are difficult to make sense of for anyone who isn't Shou, scribbles in his terrible handwriting and 40% inaccurate kanji, there's no date of eneries to organize anything unless it's specifically important, and everything is rather ordered by themes and events related to each piece of information. There are also personal notes accumulated by times, alongside newspapers snippets for evidence and sacred files he got his hands on and attached them to the notebook accordingly. On the margins, doodles can be found, of his first hamster, of Fukuda, then Ootsuki, and then all three of them as Higashio joined on the latest of his notes. There are drawings from nature as well, miserable seagulls from a stormy day he spent at the beach, careful rabbits from a snowy day he spent on the mountains, the amount of personal art is actually embarrassing to him, he isn't comfortable showing his notes to anyone.

When Claw was dismantled and the government went on a spree of scoping up targets and victims, Shou spent the night before his interrogation with government agents in organizing his notes as much as he can, going through everything from start to finish, adding more details as he remembered, and highlighting what he recognized as anything the government would deem useful. After making sure his precious notes were ready, thoughtful and determined and tired, he started making a list of names, jotting down as many as he remembered, leaving it for a while because he was suffering meltdowns because holy shit a lot was happening, then coming back with more and more names, it didn't take long for the list to accommodate several papers.

These were the names of everyone who has stumbled into Claw by accident, or were kidnapped by force, anyone who wanted out and couldn't just simply leave, people just like himself, who would have happily helped annihilating Claw if they had a chance. Like his lackeys who actually helped, or brainwashed children like Mukai, or older people whom he knows had good intentions but little to no say in anything, acquaintances from whom he learnt miserable stories, people who wanted to live their lives and wake up from the Nightmare that was life with Claw. People who certainly didn't deserve to be put in jail after Claw was over.

Despite being repeatedly told that his interrogation wasn't one for negotiating, Shou refused to speak a word of anything valuable unless every single person in his list is confirmed to left alone and safe, the agents claimed such a thing wasn't plausible, and Shou wasn't having it, a lot of things weren't going his way lately, he certainly didn't have patience for yet another situation he can't control. He put his notebooks on the table, and after making sure the government became aware of how they really need such information (he made an example by giving them everything he knows about one of the divisions), he threatened to burn everything right then and there and claimed that they'd have to torture him if they wish to get anything, if they can defeat him at first, that is.

Shou might have failed to actively take down his dad, but that didn't stop him from doing everything in his power to save whoever he knew was innocent, at the end the government had no choice but to accept the trade, with the condition that Shou would be available to help identifying people, which he gladly agreed to.
