Summary: 

Dryden Fassa finds an unlikely kindred spirit in the former Strategos of Zaibach as they realize they have both been enchanted by an Aston princess.

I've had the idea for this fic since at least 2018.  Here is the Dryden and Folken buddy story that grew from a one-shot to a trilogy. Such fun to write though. Dryden is one of my favorite characters because he is such a cool cat and a refreshing contrast against the brash and serious major male characters. He is always fun to write and I think he and Folken would get along swimmingly so it was great to write a scene for them to just hang out and discover what they have in common. This is my favorite piece for this week. I finally get to indulge in my ships and it is glorious.

Folken/Eries for the ship bingo

Almost got a bingo, but not quite!

Anyway, it’s “complicated” due to the fact that Folken was on the villain’s side for most of the series and crashed Eries’ sister’s wedding (razing a decent amount of the capital city in the process, oops).  “ANGST ANGST ANGST ANGST” due to the fact that, yanno, one of them dies in canon, pfft.  Also, I guess “they can fix each other” mostly refers to how I can see each of them (consciously or not) helping to smooth over the other’s strained relationship with their sibling. <3

EDIT:  Yo, I also did a Gaddes/Eries one of these, but it isn’t showing up in the tag pages for some reason.  Just FYI!

OLD FIC ALERT!  I honestly forgot I had written this (originally for @pethics, if you happen to remember!), but found it recently when going through some old files.  As it’s long-since been buried on my tumblr (and no doubt in the tags, themselves), I figured it was worth officially posting on AO3 for more easy reference.  Just because it’s short doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve it, amirite?  ;)

3.  You’ve got your OTP, you have to throw a third into the mix (from the same fandom), creating an OT3.  Who is the OTP, and in your opinion, why would they make a perfect third for them?

This got long, so I put the answer(s) under the cut, too, this time.  But just know that I go over Hetalia (AusHun), Escaflowne (Folken/Eries), TGFH (Raven/Ellen except...not really?), and Star Trek: TNG (Lore/Ishara)!

For Hetalia, I’d have to go with Spain/Austria/Hungary.  I know Frying Pangle is all the OT3 rage when it comes to AusHun, and while I can see the appeal and I do love me some Prussia, I’ll confess that I like to mix it up.  Austria’s relationship with Spain is far less abrasive (and their history far less hostile), and I feel Spain’s general mellowness would be a nice balance to Austria’s uptightness and Hungary’s boldness (and occasional brashness).  (In a PruAusHun situation, I feel that Hungary would end up playing mediator a lot, which just doesn’t seem fair to me!)

For Escaflowne, the OTP is Folken/Eries, and while Gaddes/Eries is a runner-up for Eries ships for me, I have a hard time seeing the three of them together?  Strangely enough, despite how I’m by no means an Allen/Eries fan, I might go with Allen here?  Keeping Folken in the mix somehow makes Allen/Eries more palatable to me, and I feel Folken and Allen have some potential for a real camaraderie/connection that could do them both some real good, once Allen got past any initial hostilities he might have.  (Alternatively, I might go with something completely off the wall like Celena.  I could see her relationship with Eries being strangely sweet, and she and Folken would have that weird, past Zaibach/trauma connection.  Those Schezar siblings--they have so many issues, but they’re both so attractive!  XD)

For This Gun For Hire (because there’s no denying that Raven/Ellen is one of my OTPs at this point, pfft), I...idk, have a really hard time seeing a third person enter the mix, to be honest.  I mean, it’s already a minor miracle that Raven is romantically interested in Ellen; the dude just strikes me as too antisocial and too asexual to make that sort of exception for someone else (especially since they wouldn’t have that all-too important history that he has with Ellen).  If for some reason Ellen wanted some sort of side-piece, though, I could see Raven being surprisingly okay with it--whatever makes her happy, yeah?

(In truth, though, the real TGFH OT3, compiled from my expanded universe OCs, might just be Millie, her dance partner Joseph, and Joseph’s currently-unnamed “roommate.”  Millie has definitely offered to beard for Joseph in the past, and has probably even been like, “Hey, if you ever decide you want kids, we can marry, have sex just enough times to get me pregnant, and then we’ll just have an open marriage.”  But it could be that Joseph’s boyfriend is actually bi, and I could see the three of them falling into this really comfortable (if unexpected) domesticity.  Unlike Ellen, Millie doesn’t really strike me as the sort to romantically/sexually settle down, but in such a non-traditional situation, I could see her vibing with it and maybe hooking up with the occasional dude on the side if they struck her fancy, lololol.)

For TNG and Lore/Ishara, I’m going to go with Q, because Q is perhaps the only other being who’s enough of a chaotic disaster to keep up with this trash couple.  XDDD  (I mean, an obvious choice might be Data, but let’s be real:  Lore is too much of a possessive dickhead and has too many brother issues to be comfortable with sharing.  Q is one of the very few beings Lore would have trouble murdering, and can also match both him and Ishara in the amoral asshole department.  The whole thing would be such a glorious trainwreck.)

Weird Van+Eries (or Van/Eries?) dancing excerpt!

Because I share excerpts from all the other fandoms I write for, but haven’t shared anything or written anything, tbh, ahahaha for Escaflowne in a long while.  So have a little ballroom/dancing excerpt from a weird Van+Eries (or Van/Eries???) fic I hope to get back to one of these days.  It follows the continuity of my Folken/Eries stories (and specifically references Take It From His Whisper), and the basic idea is that, post-canon, Van hits Eries up for economic advice, and the two end up developing a friendship of sorts through that.  So this bit takes place three years after the end of the series, where they both happen to be attending some big formal function in Egzardia as representatives of their respective countries.

His gaze shifted beyond her shoulder, and he tensed, as if on the edge of combat.  “Oh gods, it’s Princess Calita.”

Eries turned her head to look innocuously across the ballroom.  Out of her peripheral vision she could see that, sure enough, Princess Calita of Cesario was currently making her way toward them.  Eries took a sip of her punch and turned back to Van, wry amusement tugging at the corners of her mouth.  “You are a very eligible bachelor,” she pointed out.

If Van heard her, he showed no sign of it.  Instead, he jerked his gaze back to hers, and with an almost hunted look in his eyes, suddenly asked, “Dance with me?”

Eries blinked and almost laughed.  “Wh-what?”

“Dance with me,” he repeated, and the urgency of his voice made it sound more like an order this time around.  Eries blinked again, realized he was serious, and let her mouth move wordlessly for a moment while she searched for a response.

“I—I don’t dance,” she finally managed, hoping the stiff, serious tone to her voice would brook no room for argument.  It wasn’t that she didn’t know how to, or even didn’t like to, it was just that the dance floor was more often than not the realm of those looking for husbands or wives.  She had no interest in getting a husband, and her reputation was such that no man had bothered to seek her out as a potential wife in a number of years.  So why should she—

“Neither do I,” Van shot back, blunt as ever.  “But I’d still much rather do it with you than with Princess Calita.”

Her mouth made some more movements, floundering for some excuse, but it was then that his expression softened from demanding into something more desperate, more entreating.  “Please,” he added, and for an instant, his face was so similar to—so reminiscent of—  And just as she’d been powerless to refuse his brother’s request to speak with her that one night, so long ago now, she found herself similarly powerless to refuse his request to dance.  Feeling strangely removed from herself, Eries set her drink down, tentatively presented her hand, and with that, Van took it and led her onto the floor.

I have been awake for exactly (ha) 16 hours so my brain is fried (lol mistyped freid), pick one of your FxE fics and questions 2, 5, 9, and 11! :)

Because I have difficulty choosing just one, I’ll do the entire Driving Circles Around Me arc, how’s that?

2. What scene did you first put down?

That would be something from Till I Wake Your Ghost, the first fic in the series. It’s been a number of years, so I have a hard time remembering exactly, but I’m pretty sure I started with Eries confronting Folken--specifically the lines, “The reports said you died ten years ago,” and, “Please tell me that it wasn’t just some ploy to get out of marrying my sister,” (as that was a very early headcanon I had, even before I really started shipping Folken and Eries).

5. What part was hardest to write?

Does the still-unfinished sixth part count? Because, yanno, it’s still unfinished? XP Assuming we’re going with published installments, though, then definitely The Blaze Across My Nightgown. It’s an emotionally rough time for Eries, and she goes through a lot of emotions within the fic, so getting into her head was pretty exhausting (if ultimately rewarding).

9. Were there any alternate versions of this fic?

Well, after I wrote Your Words All Over Me (AKA, Till I Wake Your Ghost, except told from Folken’s POV), I considered rewriting all of the series (or at least the first three fics) from his POV, but ultimately that didn’t go anywhere. I also briefly considered continuing the arc within the AU context of I’ve Seen You In a Fight (You Lost), AKA the fic where Folken, instead of letting Eries go, drags her closer and they have dark, dubious library makeouts. The idea never got very far, but the next part would have involved Folken coming to request asylum, and instead of Eries being all, “Hey, let’s be nice and give him a guest room while he waits,” she’s all, “Nah, throw that dude in the dungeon while the Council decides what to do with him.” Then she’d visit him late at night, all, “So what the fuck was up with you assaulting me last time you saw me?” and I can’t remember if I ever figured out what Folken’s reply would be, but suffice it to say things would be extremely tense and USTy between them, pfft.

Also, if we want to go way back to before it was even a multi-fic arc, Till I Wake Your Ghost (that is, the basic idea of Eries and Folken sharing a scene together, and Eries thinking about how he could have been her brother-in-law) originally took place much later in the series, after he’d defected from Zaibach. But I let it stew for a while, and after getting a better handle on Eries and remembering that, oh yeah, Folken actually visits Asturia earlier, doesn’t he?--I shifted it to where it currently takes place, which is right around episode 6.

11. What do you like best about this fic?

Idk, I might just like the fact that it’s a pretty believable way for these two to develop a relationship (aside from the idea that they were engaged or otherwise in love as children). I actually just reread them a week or two ago and found myself nodding my head, like, “Hey, these actually still hold up! Good job, me!” XD (I think it helps that I aimed less for “true love” and more for “desperate fuck buddies who could have become more if circumstances hadn’t intervened,” pfft.)

I’m finally continuing this piece because I now know it works best when paired with my other, more recent story, “A Bargain of Souls” which will focus more on Hitomi’s role in saving Folken’s life. I had originally planned to put a FolkenxEries chapter in that story but it felt a bit weird and when I revisited this one, I decided that it would work better as an added chapter to this story instead.

So please do read both this story and “A Bargain of Souls” to get a better sense of the grand picture I’m trying to paint, if that makes any sense.

This scene is set just as Folken has been injured by the shard of his sword. While Hitomi negotiates with the Fates, someone else comes to Folken’s aid.

I haven’t written for this pairing in a while but I’ve had this scene mapped in my head for months and I’m excited to finally share it with you on such an apt occasion. Enjoy!

In a Crowd of Thousands 1/2

CHAPTER ONE: FOLKEN

This is for  @yearlyesca’s Pic’n’Fic, with the prompt “Memories,” for my partner @quietduna. 

This is a Folken and Eries fic (of course) greatly inspired by “In a Crowd of Thousands” from Anastasia the musical so I lifted the title from there because I couldn’t think of anything better. I’ve had the idea for this fic since I got obsessed with the song last year and I couldn’t help but see it in a FolkenxEries context and it fit with the prompt so this was a perfect opportunity to finally write this.

 Posting Folken’s POV today (Independence Day!) and will be posting Eries’ POV before the 15th. 

(I’m working on a Dilandau fic for @nehasy that I’ll be posting by the 15th as well!)

Folken’s Birthday Fic

A Bargain of Souls, Chapter One

Note:  Happy Birthday, Folken!

Just a quick intro chapter to a story I've had on my mind for a while now. It's Folken-centric so I figured I'd at least start writing it and post the start today.

This is inspired by the song "Pray" from “Once on this Island”. I've been obsessing over the new Broadway soundtrack since last year and I've found some themes that really work with Folken's situation. So this might read like a songfic (I’m really old in the fandom that way) but I’m still just adapting the song as not every element fits perfectly.

There will be hints of my favorite pairing, of course, but that will come later. This first part will feature Hitomi mostly because she plays such a pivotal role. Enjoy!
