“Hedge Maze”

When we left off I had found a Sierpiński carpet with 4x factor self-similarity instead of the standard 3x. Primes were easy, but powers of 2 had previously eluded me. These mazes are the result of my second attempt to find an 8x carpet. I had modified my previous formula to add a larger cycle of cells, 15 instead of 7:

After a little more fiddling with initial conditions, I got what I was after!

Here's a spectacular variant of the Mandelbrot set, formed by iterating z_n = z_(n-1)^2 - z_(n-1) - 1 + c. I chose this equation as an homage to my favorite quadratic equation, 0 = x^2 - x - 1, which has the golden ratio as one of its roots.
