Harvard Online Courses
After some eyebrow raising shit being thrown around from the (saddest most corrupt evil pos to hold the position) POTUS towards Harvard (something something Obama's daughter and Carney's child got in but Barron did not) Harvard has free online courses - (viral memes say these courses are new and a direct response but I'm not sure whether that is the case)
Course on Separation of Powers
Understanding the Constitution
Recognize a Dictatorship
How the Wealthy purchase politics
Pretty amazing right? Okay well I've been looking over the Harvard courses offered for free. The courses now available include
and
and
or
and while we are at it here is a short list of free Harvard courses that Look Really Cool To Me.
https://pll.harvard.edu/course/data-analysis-life-sciences-2-introduction-linear-models-and-matrix-algebra
https://pll.harvard.edu/course/data-analysis-life-sciences-4-high-dimensional-data-analysis
https://pll.harvard.edu/course/contractsx-trust-promise-contract
https://pll.harvard.edu/course/food-fermentation-science-cooking-microbes
https://pll.harvard.edu/course/fundamentals-neuroscience-part-1-electrical-properties-neuron

and more free courses at https://pll.harvard.edu/catalog?price%5B1%5D=1&max_price=&start_date=&keywords=&url=. Free micro courses online are amazing. Coursera and edx will often offer courses and then use Dark Patterns to hide the 'audit for free' button- but generally getting an overview of this stuff from some of the best professors on the planet is such a charming documentary overview into some good stuff.

I was reading an article from CNN about journalists in Gaza (link) and this particular paragraph stuck out to me...
Tumblr media
I was initially a journalism major in college so I understand the background of why an organization like CNN would require this style of reporting (i.e. "both sides" representism). However, these inserts of Isreali "viewpoints" that have been shown to be barefaced lies in an article about Gazan journalists risking their lives is just piss-poor optics.
If anyone wonders why people have lost faith in traditional media sources, this is a perfect example. In an article centering Palestinian voices, the organization still requires that Israeli talking points be linked as well and often, in the same paragraph. It reads like: 'here's a quote about a personal lived experience of genocide but nah uh, here's isreali propaganda claiming they are lying and bc they are an ally, they should be believed'. It's American/Western exceptionalism at its finest because "why should we believe a Palestinian, they aren't paragons of truth and justice like we are?"
I don't know if I quite explained myself like I wanted but this particular article just made me so angry that CNN and other Western media were once considered 'trustworthy' sources of information and now are parroting isreali lies. AND telling their readers that Palestinian voices on the ground telling first-hand information are not "good enough" sources of information.

I am pleased to announce that I will be teaching quarterly mini-classes! These will be replacing the quarterly chapbooks I was writing, and they will be available to everyone free of charge, whether live, or as a YouTube video afterward.
If you've been following my social media over the past several months, you're likely familiar with my criticisms of AI foraging guides that have popped up on Amazon in the past year or so. In this free mini-class I'll show you just what's in these questionable sources created with programs like ChatGPT and MidJourney. Just how accurate--or dangerous--is the information in them? How can you tell when a book is written by AI rather than a real, live person? And what's being done to stop the spread of potentially fatal misinformation?
This free mini-class will be held on Sunday, June 16 at 11am PST and last about an hour. The class will be recorded and the recording made available on my YouTube channel afterward for those unable to go to the live class. To attend live, please RSVP at rebeccathenaturalist(at)gmail(dot)com and I'll email you the Zoom link; space is limited and RSVPs help me gauge how many people will be attending live, so the sooner you RSVP the better!
(Reblogs very much appreciated!)

Try to solve weakness about mathematics
Mathematics is important for exams like the NCLEX, PRAXIS, and HESI because these tests assess the skills needed for professional practice in nursing, education, and healthcare fields.

Why math matters: Nurses need to accurately calculate medication dosages, IV drip rates, intake/output, and conversions. Why math matters: For those seeking to become teachers , the Praxis exam tests both content knowledge and teaching ability in math. Why math matters: Like the NCLEX, the HESI includes a math section to ensure incoming nursing students have the foundational skills needed.

The European Society for Creative Anachronism (aka Medieval re-enactment) people are doing a "Kingdom University" aka a free online seminar-course-event about all sorts of things that Medieval re-enactment people find interesting.
All the lessons are taught by volunteer fellow SCA people, it's completely free, so basically it's gonna be a fun, cool hangout.
It's next weekend, the 24.-26.1.2025. It is in Europe-time so some of the timing is gonna be awkward for other time zones, but some of it is doable for Americans too.
(Plus the American kingdoms probably do Kingdom Universities sometimes so definitely look into your local SCA stuff too).
But yeah, all the deets are in the link: how to sign up, the schedules, Zoom and Discord, etc.

one of the things I would love to make is a writer's bootcamp / critique circle where people get grouped together based on things like genre, age category, writing stage (i.e. outlining, 1st draft, editing) where you submit something weekly to show your progress and get critique or even just positivity from your group. and there would be deadlines to encourage accountability and getting. stuff. done.
is there interest in this? would anyone want to help me make something like it? i don't think I could do it on my own
edit: if you'd like to join, click here
