That was another thing about Elric, he was so like them sometimes. On the train, during meals, but then sometimes, he would get this look in his eye like he didn’t know what to do. He wondered if it had been different with the Flamel’s. The Flamel’s had guaranteed prestige, they could do something no one else in the world could, they didn’t need to work for their image. Perhaps things were different for them, perhaps Elric hadn’t been taught the same things. That caring was a weakness. Looking at someone like that, like you wanted to help was just asking to be taken advantage of. The world was not kind, and as such, kindness would get you nowhere power couldn’t get you with more security.

It had been almost childlike in its wonder- a far cry from the stress and tension caused by that year under The Dark Lord’s thumb.

I’ve started working on my ancient FMA post-COS fic for the first time in a straight up decade, and I finally caved and made a spotify account so I could organise all the old songs I listened to when I was writing it.

Edward’s Babysitting Service (https://archiveofourown.org/works/5584858/chapters/12871018) Hetalia, Fullmetal Alchemist. Edward Elric is tasked by Mustang to babysit- I mean, look after Lovino and his ‘sister’ Feliciano Vargas during Edward’s investigation of the Philosopher’s Stone. What started as a fairly easy assignment quickly turns into chaos as not only are the siblings being hunted, but also used as bargaining chips so Edward and Mustang will leave their enemies alone. I was pleasantly surprised that I found this crossover fic. Usually, when there is a crossover fic, some characters from one universe are put into the other universe with the story being the mystery of how it happened. The explanation given in this fic isn’t one I’ve seen very often, but it makes sense none the less. I do find it funny that both Ed and Al mistook Feliciano for being a girl. One thing I loved is how Edward not only comforted Lovino at his insecurities of Feliciano being the favorite because he’s the baby, but also reassured him. Big brothers are there to look out for and protect their younger siblings, you know?

OOOOH ok that's really cool! I'm right there with you in that often, I see characters in crossover AUs that just get dropped in and have to adopt to the world around them (heck, I've written one of those), so having an alternative explanation that doesn't jar too much is super intriguing here. Also, always love Ed and Al just being completely aloof haha. This seems like a lot of fun! Thanks so much for sending it in!

I'm trying to cope with finishing fma, can someone recommend a good fic?

I cannot explain it but fic writers get Lan Fan so wrong all the time and I can't even blame them because a) I have gotten her wrong a bunch of times too, and b) she's insanely hard to characterize.

Does anyone have any thoughts/fic recs where her character is down cold?
